1785 Inn Reviews

Our family and friends shared an absolutely magical weekend at the 1785 Inn.I had stayed at the Inn when it was a traditional Inn and already knew I loved the space. It’s old - yes! But it is wonderful in its love-worn way :)There was plenty of space for absolutely everyone - and we made use of all of it. We used the bridal suite apartment to host breakfast each morning, and a “whisky tasting” coordinated by friends the evening before the wedding… the pub was alive each night… and just as I thought how wonderful it was that everyone was together in a space, I’d walk away and find other clusters in other spots - playing guitar together in a sitting room, having a conversation on the patio or by the fire, taking a quick nap in a quiet spot… it was absolutely wonderful. We hosted our “wedding” over dinner and it was comfortable and beautiful. We didn’t want to pay for an outdoor set up if it were going to rain or be super hot… as it turned out, it was a glorious weekend (sunny and 75 degrees!), but we enjoyed a fantastic cocktail hour on the patio prior to dinner, and toasts and an exchange of vows indoors over dinner with a beautiful sunset behind us - seen from all windows all around. We didn’t need to pay a photographer - we got plenty of absolutely gorgeous pics (I so want to share more - but they all have people and I don’t want to put them up in such a public place!) We didn’t need to pay a DJ. We brought a great portable speaker and it filled the pub with music - folks had tons of fun selecting music for our after dinner dancing! We didn’t need to pay a bartender. Everyone brought drinks to share and several people made batch cocktails that were put out each night, including for the wedding cocktail hour. Before heading in for the wedding dinner, someone from each table grabbed a bottle of wine or two for their travel — everyone was happy! We did choose to spend money on FOOD for the weekend - and all of it was amazing. Big Dave’s Bagels and Deli provided trays of pastries for breakfast each morning (and we also set out a coffee station, yogurt, granola, wild blueberries…) and wrap/sandwich platters for lunch - they were PHENOMENAL!!! The only rain we had all weekend was the night before the wedding, when we had thought we would have a large BBQ. Instead, we ordered pasta trays and salad from Vito Marcello’s, and it was delicious - even by Boston standards! Our wedding dinner was catered by Chef Joe’s - they were also absolutely fantastic. Finally, the cake was by Delectables by Danette - and it also exceeded all of our expectations!!I also spent money on flowers (DG Flower Studio). She came and assembled all vases and arrangements in person and completely converted the space into something magical!!Finally - I did rent dishes, etc. for the wedding dinner from Showcase Events, going with mismatched china. Delivery and pick up were seamless and the style completely suited the space!I wouldn’t change a single thing, and feel that for the experience we shared over four nights, we spent a fraction of what many spend for a single night.I recommend this Inn to absolutely anyone who appreciates charm and character, and can accept a few “imperfections” for what truly creates a PERFECT event! Carrie G(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 01-10-2022 We stayed at the 1785 Inn and hosted about 30 of our friends who had come into town for our wedding. We did NOT host our wedding at the venue, we did it in Tamworth, but it provided a great spot for our catered rehearsal dinner and wedding after-party. The booking process had a few bumps, and Scott is very direct with the many house rules, but coordinating with Amy was a breeze. Our guests LOVED the Inn. The bar is fantastic, the kitchen has all you need to invite caterers over to produce a wonderful lobster feast, and the pictures don't lie - the view is incredible. Scott's team has done a superb job updating the bedrooms, and everyone said they had the most comfortable bed in the house. Of the many decisions we made in planning our wedding, choosing to host our friends and rehearsal dinner at 1785 was definitely one of the best. Reviewed on 03-10-2022
Kara Boone(bride)1 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 24-09-2022 We were interested in this venue, but Scott, the contact for the venue, was terrible. He only communicated by text and his texts were incoherent most of the time. We wanted a venue that included lodging so I went ahead and set up an appointment to tour the property anyways. He stood us up to that appointment. When I called him, he said I was on a self-tour. We had driven over an hour to view the property and this guy couldn’t be bothered to meet us. Not the venue for us and not the level of service I’m interested in working with. Reviewed on 23-11-2021
