Both this venue and Madeline get top marks from us! The space is absolutely stunning, both for the courtyard and abbey. We loved that we didn't really need to decorate that much to have a stunning space (We do highly recommend up-lighting, it added a nice touch). We had a big wedding and were worried about logistics/space, but everything turned out even better than we could have hoped. It was so nice to have the courtyard right there for a cocktail hour, and our guests were very happy with the space.Madeline also did an incredible job as a day of coordinator. She had the right combination of a light touch to make sure it was what we wanted, but the ability to quickly step in and take charge when we needed, and helped us navigate vendors and make sure our day went perfectly. Venue is absolutely beautiful! Especially if coupled with the on-site AirBnBs. Makes for gorgeous photos. Contract is simple. A great space for a wedding. Easy to plan with, close to hotels and the airport for traveling guests. Only complaint is site staff are not super accommodating on day of “rules”. Make sure your guests don’t arrive more than 15 minutes early or they’ll be standing on the curb. But overall highly recommend! Reviewed on 27-05-2023

Alexandra Wojtal(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 11-06-2016 I loved how my wedding turned out here. There's no question that this venue is stunning. My photographer gave a sneak peak of the pictures, and the photos, especially from the garden, are spectacular. The wait and bar staff were fabulous and so was the food. If you have your wedding here, you'll likely be very happy. However, working with the management of the Abbey during the planning of the wedding wasn't easy. We booked it a year and a half out, and there were several things promised at the time of the booking that didn't happen or we had to pay extra for, so make sure you get EVERYTHING in writing. For example, when we booked, we were told we could exchange Jim Beam whiskey for Jack Daniels no problem. Then it was an extra dollar per person per hour, so it was almost an extra $1000 dollars because we didn't get it written into the contract. They also had a baby grand piano at the time we booked. They no longer had it by the time of the wedding, so we had to provide one for our ceremony musician. They didn't even tell us they didn't have it anymore. I found out because I just asked to see if I needed to get it tuned. The other frustrating thing was the lighting - they tell you they have included gobo (design) lighting, but don't make it clear what it included and what is extra. We got married on a Saturday and they wanted us to rehearse on a Thursday. Originally we looked into having our dinner catered at the Abbey as well, and the Thursday rehearsal was not mentioned until we chose another venue for the dinner. Our minister and several members of our party are from out of town, and we were told \"we're sorry it might not be everything you envisioned\" if we had to rehearse on Thursday and everyone couldn't make the rehearsal. My dad was able to get them to add a 2pm Friday practice to the contract, but our day of coordinator spent half of it with another bride who got married that day, and it was a little chaotic. We weren't allowed to have our tasting until after we sent our invitations, and we ended up changing our menu. They also only do tastings between 11am and 1pm Tuesday through Thursday, so neither my husband nor I were able to go. The food ended up being delicious, though. However, they only served our kitchen cakes and just chopped up our tiered cake to send home with us, and a lot of our guests complained that they didn't get cake. The wait staff and bartenders were fantastic. One other cool thing the Abbey did was take my family's \"secret\" whiskey slush recipe and serve it for our cocktail hour, and it was a big hit. One of the waitresses that worked the head table noticed I wasn't feeling well (it was 100 degrees) so she brought me a cold towel for my neck. The sales rep we signed the contract with would usually take a week or more to respond if I had a question from the florist or another vendor; she made a point to make me feel like I wasn't the only wedding happening there. After my day of coordinator was assigned to me 3 months out, and we were able to ask her questions instead, it was much better. She was very responsive, much easier to work with, and much nicer. Our day of coordinator made us feel special. Bottom line, I loved how my wedding turned out at the Abbey, but there were some planning irritations that occurred while working with the management, which is to be expected. If you have a planner, that won't even be your problem. Reviewed on 20-06-2016
Katie Gengler(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 30-04-2016 Gorgeous venue and everyone commented on how good the food was. It's not in the prettiest section of the Soulard area but once inside it's everything we wanted and more.\r\rThe only issue we had was that we kept having different members of the team contacting us. We started with Julia who answered every one of my ridiculous questions quickly, politely, and promptly, then we had Darla who suddenly didn't work there anymore, then Maura who was also excellent. The day before, our venue wasn't set up according to the diagram they had given us (and that we had planned everything for) so Friday morning we had quite a bit of stress with moving chairs, adding tables, etc. However, when we called to work these things out, we got a DIFFERENT employee (Rachel, also quite lovely). \r\rSo then the day of the wedding (April 30) everything was great, staff was friendly, place looked perfect, but again, we didn't have any of the other previously encountered ladies to coordinate. So it was a little...disorganized (we were supposed to walk in at 630 but we stood outside til 7 bc of miscommunication in the various staff members). Overall a nice place, fairly reasonable prices (as far as weddings go) and at the end of the day I still got married :). Win. Reviewed on 03-05-2016

Amanda Hofstetter(bride)3 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 10-12-2011 The Abbey is a beautiful old church with lots of history. It was a great place to get married and Andrea (our event coordinator) was very helpful and accommodating. The only issue we ran into was we got married in December so wanted to decorate the facility to match our wedding colors. We were not originally told that the Abbey decorated during the holiday season and the staff even helped us measure the banisters for purchasing garland. About a month before our wedding we found out they provide decorations, but their decorations clashed with our wedding colors. We were told we would have to pay additional fees for them to take down their current decorations even though we were not originally informed that the decorations existed. Luckily Andrea was awesome and took down the decorations herself to avoid us being charged extra. Make sure to ask about every single detail and do not be surprised if little things pop up. Katherine Cody(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 11-11-2011 I was so happy to find a place like this to have my entire wedding celebration at. Originally wanted an outdoor ceremony, but didn't want to chance the weather and had a late fall wedding. This place is very large and has a very laid-back lodge vibe. We were married in front of the stone fireplace, then gathered by the bar while they rearranged the space for the reception. Reviewed on 16-12-2011

Food was great, venue was beautiful. We started out working with one girl, then it switched two more times after that. That was a bit annoying, but they handled it well and everything turned out great.\r\rWe had our ceremony and reception here. Reviewed on 06-09-2011

Jen Cregan(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 25-10-2008 The 9th street Abbey is a very old church. It was a smaller venue perfect for our 130 guests. We loved the cathedral ceilings and stained glass windows. It's beautiful. Reviewed on 06-03-2009
