We got married at Airlie in September, in the middle of a tropical storm. Despite the unexpected weather, the venue and staff at Airlie were amazing. The indoor and outdoor spaces available to us were gorgeous and the team at Airlie was incredibly flexible and accommodating to make sure the event went off without a hitch. They provided shuttles and umbrellas to take us and our guests around the property, keeping us dry all day long. The food and drinks were excellent. Everyone who stayed on the property enjoyed their accommodations. And, the spaces we used for our rehearsal dinner and welcome party (the Market and Harry's) were fantastic as well. Throughout the entire planning process we have thoroughly enjoyed working with the Airlie team. This is an amazing venue with an amazing team. Simply put, we had the best day thanks to Airlie! We chose Airlie because of its beautiful setting and location for our outdoor wedding. Our after party at Harry’s was convenient andwe particularly enjoyed the following morning brunch on the Airlie rooftop with our guests. Our recommendation for future weddings would be to plan and coordinate with Airlie wedding specialist early. This helped us avoid miscommunications and establish written expectations. We couldn't have envisioned a more perfect venue! My wife and I got married at Airlie last September and everything about our special day was flawless. Kari was incredibly helpful throughout our entire planning process & was always available to answer whatever questions we had. We chose to have an intimate rehearsal dinner with our wedding party at Harry's, and followed by food and drinks in one of the cottages with some of our extended family (highly recommend this option)! Our wedding day itself was beautiful - flowers were in full bloom, tables and chairs were perfectly set up, decor was smoothly coordinated with our vendors, and the catered food was excellent. If I could do it over again though, I would have just allotted way more time for everything - the day went by SO FAST! I was most looking forward to taking pictures on the Spanish steps with my long train, but there just didn't end up being any time for it. Still, there are so many beautiful spots for photos throughout the entire venue so anywhere you go will be stunning. We can't wait to spend our first anniversary there next month! We loved getting married in the garden and having our reception in the Pavilion. We had our dream wedding weekend at Airlie and would do it all over again with them. Airlie has so many amazing things that make it worth it, but they do have some room to grow- if they do, they could really be one of the top wedding venues in the DMV. Pros:-Absolutely gorgeous, unique grounds: 300 acres of land with rolling green hills, tons of trees framing the venue everywhere, and many different lovely gardens. It feels like you're at an elegant \"summer camp\" with so many beautiful areas to explore. We and our guests loved the natural beauty of Airlie.-Amazing in-house catering: Airlie's food is unparalleled for a wedding- it is absolutely delicious and so many of our guests said it was \"the best wedding food\" they'd ever had. Every single steak and piece of salmon was cooked perfectly. I also have to mention how incredible they were in catering to my groom and his family's many food allergies. No one got sick and the food tasted wonderful. So grateful for their food allergen accommodations!-All inclusive venue: Airlie provides a ceremony and reception site, bridal/groom's suites, rehearsal dinner site, tables/chairs/linens, and tableware.-Lodging on-site: You and your guests can stay at Airlie in their 4 different (cute and updated) lodging buildings! This made everything so easy and fun for everyone. They offer a (small) room block discount as well.-Awesome service: Throughout our weekend, the staff was so accommodating to everyone. Between golf cart/car shuttles for guests at night within a few minutes notice to their lodging buildings, to friendly and helpful check-in staff/catering managers, to great wait staff during the wedding meal, Airlie's staff was so awesome in making sure everyone had a great experience.-Lovely attached Harry's bar/restaurant: We used Harry's 3 times over the wedding weekend and were so happy with our choice every time. We hosted our welcome gathering the night before outside at Harry's and everyone loved the indoor/outdoor feel with the pretty lake view, string lights, and spacious seating. We hosted our afterparty at Harry's after the wedding and the staff was SO accommodating in keeping the bar open longer than we had planned for, as we had so many guests that wanted to keep the party going. The drinks were also on point. The last thing we hosted at Harry's was a pay-for brunch the morning after- the food was so delicious and again, the scenery was awesome to enjoy while wishing everyone off. It was so nice to have this spot to use the whole weekend. Cons:-Somewhat unorganized communication from (Airlie) coordinators/staff: so much to say here. Initially, our Airlie coordinator was very unresponsive and I was worried about this as clearly they were understaffed. Mid-way through the process, we were put with a new coordinator. She was much more responsive throughout the whole process and answered all questions and emails very quickly. Thank goodness! There definitely was a lack of communication in important, big points that easily could have been initially communicated- we had to last-second change our wedding timeline as we were not aware that the reception had to end at 11pm due to county noise ordinance. Many other similar details were communicated somewhat poorly. Either the staff is frequently turned over and unfamiliar with many of the Airlie standards, or Airlie frequently changes their standards and does not clearly communicate these to their staff...or both! We were also somewhat disappointed in our coordinator during our final walkthrough 23 days before the big day- she clearly had no idea what she was doing and our outside coordinator had to lead the show. Very little direction from her about how things would go on the day and what to keep in mind. We were also never shown the rain plan sites. Completely unorganized. -Somewhat inflexible wedding weather plan: We had a late June wedding and there were spotty thunderstorms throughout the weekend (luckily no downpours). Airlie was great at being flexible in the weather call/plan for our rehearsal dinner and we ended up being able to have it outside as planned in the Organic Garden, which was so beautiful. However, on our wedding day, the wedding call had to be made at 11am, when the radar was changing by the minute for our 5pm ceremony time. We ended up making the call for an indoor ceremony to prevent any potential chaos in having a stormy outdoor ceremony. I do think we made the right call, but that call could have been different and changed to our originally planned garden ceremony had we been able to make that call 2 hours later. It didn't end up storming or raining during our ceremony, which was somewhat infuriating. But, it possibly ended up being a blessing in disguise for our guests being comfortable in the AC (so humid out). -Expensive extra add-ons that should be included with their hefty fee: Airlie charges big fees for any add-ons, such as doing a signature cocktail, dinner wine service, etc. The biggest annoyances for us were having to pay multiple hundreds for a CAMPFIRE (we don't regret it since everyone really enjoyed sitting around the fire in adirondacks at night) when we easily could have set it up ourselves as well as the short bar time. The bar package only includes 4 hours of bar time. If you use this during cocktail hour, that leaves 3 hours for the reception, which is obviously not enough time. The package really should be 5 hours. We ended up having to pay a premium to extend the bar time that should have been initially included. We also paid $10/person (so high for what we got- this should have been more like $5/person) to add on a chips/guacamole/salsa package for our afterparty that definitely was meagerly portioned. We got 40 portions and it felt more like 20. -Hit or miss recommended vendors: We ended up using some of Airlie's recommended vendors (florals, coordination, cake), but some are not ideal. One of their top recommended photographers that has a great portfolio lives in CO and was not available. -Some areas that need updates: Most of Airlie's outside grounds and charming inside buildings are cute and up to date. However, I definitely noticed some areas that needed an update, especially for what they charge for weddings. This included the Spanish Steps- some of the white paint is chipping away, as well as some of the indoor rooms needing a refresh in flooring. For example, our plan B ceremony weather site in the Jefferson room would be so much prettier with hardwood flooring rather than the \"meh\" brown carpeting they have in there currently. -Lackluster bridal and groom's suites: The bridal suite is really not a bridal suite and totally unacceptable to be used as one. There is no changing area, so it is assumed that all of the ladies will be changing in front of one another. There is also only 1 bathroom. The room totally lacks any aesthetic for \"getting ready\" photos and the furniture in there is totally outdated. Airlie, do better on this. Change your bridal suite to one of the many nice rooms in the Airlie house or update the Old Post. Additionally, the groom's suite (again, really can't call it that) is a totally lackluster room in the Airlie house that doesn't even have a changing area for the men. No private bathroom. So they have to meet there already changed in a boring, ugly, small room. Again, the Fox's Den needs to be thoroughly updated or move the groom's suite to one of the many nice rooms in the Airlie house. The photographer had to move all of them to a better location for \"getting ready\" shots. -Unenthused bartenders: The bartenders in Harry's are so awesome. But, the bartenders at our wedding were....very unenthused. When the bride goes up to get a drink, the bartenders should put on a happy, high energy. I went up to a bartender who just kept a flat face/tone that came off as \"you're bothering me\" and when I asked for a very common cocktail combination, he looked annoyed and I had to explain what went into it. Airlie bartenders, you need to act like all the other amazing service/staff and exude good energy AND know your cocktails! Paying for the bar/drinks is not cheap, and my guests should not have to explain what goes into drink if all of the liquors and mixers are available! -Confusing and very expensive brunch at Harry's: All of my guests at brunch the next day thought the brunch was on us because of the confusing operation: They went into Harry's, saw an open spread, and no one explained to them the cost or collected $ up front. Afterwards, $ was collected, which was to their surprise and awkward for us. Harry's, please have guests pay for their brunch as they come in. And please do not heckle the bride and groom for their breakfast vouchers. My best advice to future couples is to make sure you hire an outside coordinator that is familiar with Airlie- this is absolutely the most important, vital hire in making sure your wedding weekend goes smoothly. Airlie is fantastic but the organization/small details can be missed on their end, so your coordinator should be someone that can pick up the pieces for you to prevent stress on your big day. The planning was well organized, and the team was incredibly responsive to our requests. The on-site team was so helpful the day of the wedding - while technically our contract guaranteed set up 3 hours before the event, the on-site team made sure everything was ready that morning so we could set up early before getting ready for the ceremony! So many guests commented on how gorgeous Airlie was, and many want to return to explore all the other activities they have to offer (fishing, restaurants, etc.). The gardens and grounds are so picturesque, with everything from fields, to formal gardens, to a Spanish Staircase - they were perfect for wedding photos. Andrew Bradley(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 30-10-2021 We only looked at 2 venues early in our planning and after we checked out the Airlie gardens we were set for our October 2020 wedding. That is, until COVID changed things. Airlie was so helpful and understanding despite their own challenges facing the pandemic and allowed us to reschedule for a new date in October 2021 without any issue which we greatly appreciated! The day was perfect though the threat of rain loomed late into the week. The Airlie staff was on top of everything and everything went off without a hitch. Our guests enjoyed their stay in the updated rooms and loved the grounds, especially Harry’s on Friday evening for some before bed drinks. Everything was set up to our specification perfectly! All the credit goes to Lydia, who answered many a question in the planning phase and helped us through the process greatly. The only reason I gave 4/5 stars for responsiveness is because Airlie really needs to get Lydia some support (easier said than done these days I know). She is wearing multiple hats and really is owning it, and I swear must be a machine for her ability to juggle all her responsibilities and still have time for all the couples, planners, etc. filing in and out each weekend. On only a couple of occasions we had some difficulty getting answers to questions, but totally understand that Lydia is one person coordinating weddings and major events for the property. So Airlie if you’re reading this, Lydia is an all star, but get her some more support staff at least! To Lydia, thank you for everything. Special shout out to Kari who helped facilitate our whole weekend - I often referred to her as my Fairy Godmother. Airlie made it SO easy to be a one-stop-shop for our rehearsal dinner, welcome party (for folks in town Friday night), getting ready for the wedding, BEAUTIFUL photos, ceremony/reception, after party, and hotel accommodations. Our family coming in from out of town loved that they didn't need to drive all over the place for each event, and our friends from the DC area loved that they could escape the city for a weekend. We got so many compliments on the venue. I hadn't originally planned to have my wedding here because it's a huge property and I wanted something more private.. but I was wrong. From the rehearsal dinner to the wedding day and the day-after breakfast, Airlie exceeded our expectations. We booked Airlie in fall 2019, before the pandemic, and had to reschedule our initial date. Not only did Airlie accommodate our request, they never charged us a postponement fee or additional costs of any kind, which is rare (especially given the tough business environment facing so many venues). As we dealt with more pandemic-related planning curveballs, Airlie continued to be flexible, accommodating, and kind, going above and beyond to make our weekend as lovely as possible. We need to give a special shout-out to LYDIA, who not only helped us with all of this along the way, but who seemed so genuinely thrilled for us to be getting married at Airlie—it was very sweet and meant a lot to us. We need to give a special shout-out to LYDIA, who not only helped us with all of this along the way, but who seemed so genuinely thrilled for us to be getting married at Airlie—it was very sweet and meant a lot to us. Beyond the accommodating nature, the ACTUAL EXPERIENCE of getting married at Airlie is one we will cherish for the rest of our lives. What an amazing environment for us to be with so many loved ones for the first time in years. The rehearsal dinner in The Market at Airlie (gorgeous industrial space!) created such a warm and community-focused start to the weekend. The buffet was also UNREAL—the Airlie catering staff pulled off short rib, seafood bouillabaisse, and other potentially tough dishes in a supremely delicious way. The beautiful lake view and fire pit at The Market really topped off the evening. We rented the Groome’s Cottage to stay in for the weekend—it’s a lovely getting ready space because there is a nicely sized lounge area and a deck (in addition to private rooms). The bride, her mom, and 10 women of honor were able to comfortably spend all day together in this space and really make themselves at home! The groom and his people of honor got ready in the Game Room by the pool. This was also very fun; they played pool, chess, and foosball. Both groups also ordered lunch from Airlie—sandwiches, wraps, etc. It was all DELICIOUS—energizing, filling but not too much so, and so fresh! (Honestly, all of the food we had was actually even better day-of than it was at our tasting.) There are so many stunning spaces at Airlie. Our guests later reported that they had a great time exploring the property. And we loved being able to have our ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception in different parts of the venue. One thing that appealed to us early on when we were deciding on a venue was that Airlie staff always made us feel so welcome as we visited the property, and that spirit was present during our wedding weekend as well. They even added hooks to the reception space to accommodate a design request. Finally, the breakfast on Sunday was delicious and excellent fare for hangovers. A+ all around. There are so many beautiful places to take pictures as well. I love that the venue is more eco friendly, such as providing reusable water bottles. The service was also very fast and friendly, however, they started clearing up a little early and putting the already poured drinks on the table into plastic cups. I thought this was a little wasteful, since most people didn't finish them or know that it was their drink. I wished that they provided the two different options of cake we had, but they servers mainly served one flavor. Overall though the wedding went pretty perfectly. We also stayed at the venue the night before and after and I didn't particularly like our stay. There was no fridge provided in the rooms, and the closet was strangely in the bathroom. The main gripe I have is that the day after our wedding there was a lot of noise outside at 6-7am. I wish the grounds keepers would've waited to do lawn work a little later so that I could rest. I love that the Pavilion is flexible and can go from light and bright, to dark and earthy. Another favorite of mine for the Pavilion is that all of the glass doors can remain open. The weather happened to be gorgeous on my wedding night so we had several of the doors open after dinner concluded. Speaking of dinner, the food was AMAZING! I am still receiving compliments from guests about how much they loved the selections. We really wanted a venue where everyone could stay together and make a full weekend out of it, and Airlie provided that for us. In addition, Airlie is a one-stop-shop - they can host your ceremony and reception, provide all the food (except the cake), beverages and wait staff, and provide recommendations for all your other vendors as well. You can also host your rehearsal dinner and day-after brunch there. In addition, Airlie is absolutely beautiful. We received so many compliments from our guests on how gorgeous the setting was. We selected a November date because that provided a few off-season discounts, but the grounds were still stunning. The weather turned out to be unseasonably cold and we had to hold everything indoors but that didn’t matter - the Jefferson Room and the Pavilion were still spectacular and the transition to the indoor locations was seamless. The food was wonderful and presented beautifully. We went for a tasting a few months before and that was terrific - the staff was so friendly and helpful. We would highly recommend any couple who uses Airlie to hire a day-of coordinator - Airlie is just too large and spread out for you to be able manage coordinating everything yourself on your wedding day.A couple of tiny caveats. We found the room block process and the online room reservation system a bit cumbersome and our guests found it a little confusing. I believe Airlie was redesigning their website, so that issue may have been resoled. Also, about 6 weeks out our sales contact at Airlie left and we were assigned a new contact. That caused a few hiccups, but fortunately we had hired a day-of coordinator that was able to smooth most of those out for us.Overall, we were thrilled with Airlie and would highly recommend it! Food is wonderful; farm to table from their property. Banquet staff did a great job. My review isn't 5 stars because of issues we had with Shiloh. Reviews said she was so responsive and although she was very sweet, I never found that. She took a long time getting back to us confirming the date. Queen/Queen rooms are all off the main property and limited. Not a problem, but we were never told that. These were never added to the block and were told they were sold out - 9 months in advance? She promised to notify me if any opened. Never heard back until I asked and all of sudden multiple were available. Never received a response from the director of reservations after reaching out to multiple times. Shiloh got a new job 1 month out - fine, but we were only told less than a week before her departure. It was frustrating we had no warning so close to our wedding. But Quaid took over, did an amazing job and was really responsive! Airlie can feel expensive ($2,500 ceremony fee, 22% service fee) but overall its totally worth it. Airlie was the type of venue I'd always dreamed of. We had the best wedding and I wouldn't change a thing about it! Future couples: ask lots of very detailed questions up front & be proactive. We did this, but still ran into issues. Have a plan for photos if it rains, there aren't many good indoor spots. We did a first look before the rain started but didn't have a backup. Ask for Quaid if there's more than one wedding manager! You can buy beer & wine from Harry's for afterparty in cottages.Airlie: Ditch the pavilion fan, its ugly. Provide list of guests staying under the block - I work in events, its standard practice. It was an absolutely wonderful wedding and I don’t think there’s another venue around here that could match the professionalism, care, and attention that we received from the staff during the planning process all the way through to the actual event.Special shout out to Shiloh – you are definitely an outstanding event coordinator and we couldn’t have had this dream wedding without your assistance and guidance. Tori Price(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 19-05-2018 Airlie was the dream garden wedding I was going for. The beautiful lush gardens and the most elegant pavilion I have ever seen made my wedding day absolutely beautiful. While it had rained for 9 straight days and the hopes of a garden wedding seemed to be unlikely, Shiloh and my wedding planner found a way to give me the garden wedding I had dreamt of. My guests truly loved the simplicity of staying on-site and having the wedding and reception all in the same place. There were also an array of activities for guests to do when they weren't busy with wedding festivities. My fiance is from Southern California and him and I currently live out of state so Airlie was the perfect venue for a couple with tons of out-of-towners attending their wedding, Reviewed on 22-07-2018
Lucia Pulchine(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 16-06-2018 We love Airlie! We worked with Shiloh for over a year to make our wedding day perfect. She is amazing! She answered all of my many questions and went above and beyond the call of duty. I felt so relaxed knowing she was in my corner. We just had our reception at Airlie but it was perfect. We had a large wedding at around 200 people and Airlie did not disappoint. The food was amazing. The staff was amazing. We had cocktail hour in the lower gardens and it was beautiful. On the day of the wedding Airlie staff members came and checked on myself and my bridesmaids all morning. Asked if we needed anything or if they could do anything for us. I have never received such amazing service. It made my nervousness go away. From start to finish Airlie was magnificent. The venue was absolutely beautiful with so many different places to take pictures! We fell in love with it from the second that we turned onto the property the first time. We also rented a cottage for the weekend, and were able to have one place for the wedding party to stay together. It was really convenient for everyone to be able to stay on the property so we could make a whole weekend with our out of town family and friends. Also, the food was AMAZING! It's been 6 months, and people are still commenting about the food served at our wedding! Felicia Glapion(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 22-10-2017 My now husband and I discovered Airlie in February 2017 and immediately fell in love with it (yes, the place is gorgeous even in the dead of winter). However, after visiting several beautiful venues all over Maryland, DC, and Virginia and finding them lacking for one reason or another (e.g., price, sour/grouchy/rude staff, lack of parking, lack of handicap accessibility, distance from the airport etc.) we were hesitant to get our hopes up. In the end, having our wedding at Airlie was one of (if not the best decision) we made with respect to our wedding. All of the guests we spoke to had a great time and absolutely loved the venue. Many folks have stated that they plan to return for their own weekend get-aways and one of my Bridesmaids is even considering having her wedding here. In addition, we plan to return for our anniversary next year. The natural beauty of Airlie house and the well maintained grounds also make for amazing pictures. For context, we planned and paid for our wedding ceremony and reception ourselves so having friendly, professional, competent staff was a must. (Especially as neither one of us had experience planning a wedding or major event.) That being said, one of the best things about Airlie is Shiloh Wolfrey (Airlie's Catering Sales Manager) as so many other people have already stated in one way or another in their reviews. Shiloh is hands down awesome to work with! She is a genuine, responsive, down to earth individual who really appears to enjoy her job and takes it seriously without being sour. Never in our interactions with her did she treat us like a number or a cash cow (as so many places are guilty of doing when they hear the word \"wedding\"). She really worked with us to find options within our budget and never made us feel \"less\" because we didn't have a fortune to spend on a wedding or because our wedding was on the \"smaller\" side (we had about 60 people). She also knows the venue inside and out and she has done enough weddings at Airlie to know things like which months tend works best for outdoor weddings and when/how long certain flowers will be in bloom. She also knows which reception layouts work best depending on the guest count. She was also good about staying on top of her email and letting you know when she was going to be out of the office or unreachable due to another event. She also shared innovative tools with us like \"social tables\" which helped us plan and visualize our reception. (Social tables lets you layout your event space with tables, chairs, coat racks, speakers, etc. and also lets you do a 3-D walkthrough of your event space.) Finally, she was also ready with vendor suggestions when our DJ cancelled two weeks before our wedding. I can't stress enough the value of good staff as they can make or break your event. What good is a beautiful venue if the staff is rude, unprofessional, or incompetent? Remember that these people are going to be the people interacting with your friends and family on the day of your event. And the catering manager or venue coordinator will most likely be the person you deal with the most throughout your planning period. My advice, please take the time to make sure that your venue coordinator/contact is the right fit. When it comes down to it Shiloh was a big reason why we had our wedding at Airlie. We hit it off right away and she has been a pleasure to work with ever since. Reviewed on 31-10-2017

I had a very incompetent wedding planner and if it were not for Shiloh and her staff I would have not had the Wine the Rabbi needed to do the wine blessing in my ceremony. Shiloh noticed there were no wedding programs put out for the guests and she personally got them and handed them out to my already seated guests. Shiloh was so easy to get in touch with, she returned emails and phone calls quickly and was v very informative. She was so personable and such a joy to work with. we just loved her. Because of her we have actually created another event to throw at Airlie next year Just so we can work with Shiloh again !! I would get married again just to have Shiloh work with us. There is not enough space for me to write everything we loved about Shiloh. She is a very special professional to work with. She had things that in her job description she is responsible for and like any professional in her position its not a surprise that she would go beyond her job descripton duties to see an event go smoothly... But Shiloh knew how special certain things were in all my detailed planning and so she felt with the incompetence off my wedding planner and ran her self ragged to make sure that my details were not lost. I could never thank her enough for everything she did for us to make our wedding the most amazing event ever !! Airlie is the BEST venue for the wedding of your dreams. The setting is so peaceful, you feel like you are the only one on the estate. We had guests from 15 states and 5 countries, so we wanted the wedding to be not just a few hours, but a full weekend getaway. Our guests raved about the natural beauty, delicious food, and relaxing atmosphere. Some stayed for 4 days! Our ceremony was in the formal gardens and the reception was in the pavilion. Everything was perfect. The food was super local, fresh, and fancy. Best quality wedding food I've ever had. The pavilion is a beautiful space and everything was set up flawlessly the night before. The gardens were a beautiful setting for the ceremony and cocktail hour and guests loved wandering an discovering something new around every corner. I basically picked my venue based on what the photos would look like and Airlie has THE MOST gorgeous and varied backdrops. It's astounding how warm, friendly and relaxed this place is. The best thing about Airlie is the people who work there. Everyone went above and beyond to make my day special and run smoothly: champagne was delivered at lightning speed, and the lady at the front desk even drove into town to get my package to the post office because I had just missed their mail pick up. Shiloh is a treasure. Sweet, organized, composed, responsive--I don't know how she does it! She took careful notes throughout and everything was set up exactly as I requested. She answered my MANY questions throughout the process and coordinated many complex aspects that other brides don't bother with. I would still recommend having your own coordinator, however, as Airlie staff will not be able to execute your design vision the same way a coordinator you worked with for a year could. 100% would choose again for my next wedding! haha jk. To balance the review, things Airlie could improve: the getting ready suite could use an update to add mirrors, large windows, and make it more photogenic; bartenders refused to pour straight shots (this may be VA law, but we were a Russian wedding, so it was a problem and guests complained); not a fan of the giant fan in the pavilion; and tbh 22% is a very high service charge. All were minor and could not begin to dampen our best day ever! Thank you so SO much to Airlie and Shiloh! Stephanie Ennaco(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 11-06-2017 Our wedding was an amazing a beautiful day. But, I cant give Airlie 5 stars. The only reason I am giving them 4 is because of Shiloh. She was such a pleasure to work with and we could not have planned a wedding in 3 months without her. The land is beautiful and I felt so confident about our day going into it. Shiloh helped us to lay out everything exactly as we wanted it, we had a perfect rain plan in case of bad luck- thankfully we didn't need it- and we had every detail planned. Unfortunately Airlie staff must not have gotten the message. Signs were not placed directing our guests where to go until 45 min after the ceremony had started- and thankfully so because my last name was misspelled on it! Our tables and chairs for the reception werent set up until an hour after we had agreed they would be- and for a morning wedding with a 10AM start time- that hour meant that some of my guests had to help set up the decor! Some of the tables had black linens on them- when I chose my color scheme of forest green, ivory and blush I didn't envision how bad black would look but I got an eyefull at my reception. The tent walls were left down after me asking several staff the day before to make sure they were opened, so I was totally ignored. Shiloh and I had worked so hard on the perfect day and Airlie staff were just not motivated to carry that out. Overall, I would recommend Airlie because, goodness it is gorgeous and the food is incredible, but I would HIGHLY recommend you have a wedding planner there to ensure your vision is actually carried out by the staff. The staff were also so impressive. My sister is a sommelier and service manager at a well-known New York restaurant and she was impressed by the staff, which is saying a lot. The Pavilion which is where we had the reception was stunning. With the accordion glass doors open all the way around and the large wrap-around porch it was a great way for guests to enjoy either inside or outside without being too far away. However, working with Airlie has been an absolute nightmare. At our initial site visit we were told EVERYTHING we wanted to hear. The minute we submitted our non-refundable deposit everything went to hell. We were told we would have to do the a la carte wedding because we were having only 50 guests, which was not what we were told during the initial walk through. We were told all we had to do to hold rooms for our guests was to pay for our room (the bride & groom suite) up front. Later we were told we would have to pay for 50% of all the rooms needed & finally, we were eventually charged 100% for all the rooms we thought we may need (which broke down to just under $7k). How they expect us to know EXACTLY the rooms we will need 6-8 months in advance, prior to even mailing out invites, is beyond me! All the contracts were unclear; they changed depending on what mood the staff was in and when asked to clarify we wouldn’t hear back from them for WEEKS & then we would never get anything in writing, even after requesting it over & over again! \rThe staff is polite in person, however are super condescending on the phone and in emails. They were even rude to our wedding planner, which seems like a REALLY bad idea, since she was the reason we were initially referred. She had worked with them, prior to multiple changes in staff & management, so this in NO way was her fault. At our final walk through, 4 days prior to the wedding, they only provided estimates of overages and remaining balances. Also, they failed to include the service charges (i.e. gratuities in these estimates, which later we discovered breaks down to about $4k!) \rAfter everything, that walk through that took over 1 month to schedule, felt as if it never even happened, all the requests and changes were conveniently forgotten or ignored. The weekend of, we found out some of our guests were not assigned their own rooms, as requested. The rooms were OVERPRICED ($185/night), small and poorly decorated. In other venues, hotel blocks are given discounts or will give the bride & groom their room for free, this was not the case at Airlie. We also discovered that our rain back up was a STORAGE CLOSET, which they were graciously going to throw in for free! Patrick, the one competent staff member, realized that they gave us this horrible excuse for a wedding site and gave us a beautiful room instead. One week later, after returning from our honeymoon, we received a very rude email stating we owed them over $1k, when we called them to clarify they realized they made several errors in accounting! After several emails, angry phone calls and threats to get small claims involved as well as attorneys, after 1whole month after our wedding did they finally reimburse our overages. Oh, also, as a courtesy they offered to give us access to “tag along” on someone’s corporate event to try and make up for all the difficulties. Really?! \rYes the location is beautiful and the food was delicious, however the staff is completely incompetent. We went through 2 different event coordinators and 1 manager and still feel that our privately hired wedding planner was our saving grace. The accounting people, front staff and special events coordinators are completely incompetent and do not have a problem stealing and lying. Don’t go to Airlie! Reviewed on 16-12-2012
Rachel Herndon(bride)2 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 04-08-2012 I want to start off by saying, our wedding was absolutely BEAUTIFUL!! It turned out to be everything that I wanted it to be and my husband and I enjoyed ourselves fully. \r\rThe problem I had, however, was with the time leading up to our wedding. At the start of our engagement, we dealt with Tina...and she was AMAZING! But she was promoted and Lisa came in to take over. She was extremely difficult to get ahold of and made the time rather stressful. I was told at the beginning that Lisa was the \"wedding coordinator\" at Airlie and yet she did not take care of anything for the wedding. She told me a week after the wedding in an email that she \"stopped by and it was beautiful\" yet I saw neither hide nor hair of her the whole day. \r\rAirlie is a beautiful place to get married. But it is very expensive. The food was sooo delicious and the new pavilion is absolutely beautiful!! Our wedding was in August and it was about 90 outside but the AC in the pavilion felt amazing--cold even! It would even be great in the winter, I believe. The staff for set up and such for the day of and the rehearsal did a great job!! A few slip ups but I didn't even notice them the day of :) In my mind, the value of Airlie itself is five star. Lisa, however, was far too difficult to deal with. If you live close to Airlie, don't even hesitate. It turned out to be a beautiful day, but if you choose them for your wedding, be alert! I put that I would recommend it to a friend because I would--with warning about the coordinator. Reviewed on 10-09-2012
Pearl Panichpong(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 23-06-2012 The gobo was a nice touch to our wedding reception and there was also a nice banner that sat outside of the pavillion with uplights so when it got dark you could really see it. It was amazing! Reviewed on 20-07-2012

This is the place for an incredibly scenic wedding. The backdrops are wonderful. From the hidden secret gardens filled with butterflies and english looking gazebos, to the extensive stone walls and stone bridges over beautiful lakes amid rolling Virginia hills it is a wonderful venue. The main staircase in the back is INCREDIBLE for pictures. Also the wedding coordinator I met at the bridal show, Lisa A. is so on her game. She is very intelligent, organized, kind and professional. She is someone you want on your wedding team! I know I enjoy working with Airlie and Lisa. The food is also wonderful. I highly recommend this venue! Reviewed on 12-03-2012

Amanda Sebunia(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 23-10-2010 We truly had a wonderful day and Airlie Center was a big part of making the day so special. \r\rTina, the special events coordinator was very easy to work with. Expect that it may take her a few days to get back to you, but she will return your call/email. Approximately 2 weeks before your event her response time will be almost immediate as she very is focused in on your event.\r\rI had been to Airlie for a conference and knew how great the staff was, but the attention to detail was phenomenal. There was a slight frost the night before our wedding and the garden staff was out the next morning to replant the pansies in the garden.\r\rThe food was wonderful - I am still getting raves about the food. Even the breakfasts that are included with the overnight rooms are amazing. And the service staff is top notch.\r\rThe cost initially seems daunting, but when you consider that EVERYTHING but flowers/decorations, music, clothing, and special linens is included... it becomes more reasonable.\r\rNote: I do recommend hiring a day of coordinator as Airlie does not provide this service. The benefit of hiring your own is that s/he works FOR YOU. I highly recommend \"It's All About You - Weddings\" out of Alexandria. They have worked with Airlie numerous times and know what to expect. Kristina Price(bride)1 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 07-05-2011 ultimately, my groom and I decided, \"how could we trust a place where the special events coordinator refuses to take calls, and consistently does not return calls for a week or a week and a half?\" She also uses the same response time for emails. When she answers them. We recently asked for an in person meeting. She hedged for 2 weeks. Then told us she could only give us 20 minutes. \r\rWe've visited the site a total of 4 times now. She gave us 4 draft contracts. All of them seemed like she literally pulled them out of thin air. They did not remotely reflect our email or in person conversations. I often wondered if she confused us with other couples. \r\rI can confirm that she does not work on weekends. This special events coordinator will not be present during your weekend wedding. They will tell you that you do get to meet with the whole staff one week before your wedding. But other wedding venue sites in the area and in the surrounding dc metropolitan area will include the special events coordinator as part of your wedding package. It's a little startling that this one won't be there. Especially for the prices of the packages. This wedding event planner is never available to be reached after 4pm on weekdays. The staff that answers the phone at Airlie has confirmed this for me. She apparently leaves the office every day at 4pm.\r\rThis Wedding Coordinator's favorite excuse when she FINALLY does return a phone call or email (usually after the 3rd call with no response, or, the last time I tried to get ahold of her, I called her every day, sometimes twice. I left a message at least once every day. Again it took about a week to get back to me.) is that \"Wow, so sorry it took so long to get back to you. We are right in the middle of the wedding season you know!\". She's been saying that to me for about 7 months. Seriously. Also, all the site coordinators I've worked with never use this excuse. Or any excuse, really. They just call me back right away. \r\rThis wedding coordinator gave us a list of prices for a special event. The cover sheet said \"2010\ Reviewed on 26-10-2010
