Barb went above and beyond to make our day perfect! She took care of everything and didn’t let us worry about anything. The owners did amazing updates between when we booked the venue and our wedding and we were so happy with everything. Reviewed on 07-11-2023

Katie Valandra(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 16-09-2022 Bride Experience 09/16/22 ** From day one, Barb was extremely helpful throughout the planning process. I can't tell you how many emails and questions I sent her way over the 18 months we worked together, and she always responded quickly. Several times I stopped at the venue to show various bridal party members the facility for planning purposes, and she always offered to give us a tour. We had several meetings to make plans and ensure everything was to my expectations. Rehearsal and wedding day came with a lot of rain, but if it made things difficult to set up, etc. I never knew about it. Anytime Barb heard I was worried about something, or concerned something wasn't going right, she personally made sure to come find me and let me know that it was taken care of and to enjoy my day. The biggest thing for me was some of my family members have significant health issues, including my father. They went above and beyond to make sure all accommodations were made so they could enjoy the day with little to no inconveniences. From being available to drive them around the property as needed in the golf cart, to making sure the oxygen machine would be unobstructed, and trying to keep the temperature suitable for everyone. One review mentioned that staff started to tear down early; they did the same at mine, but they never touched tables where people were still sitting. I got married on a Friday, and I knew they had another wedding right away the next day, so I was not bothered by that. However, others may be. I had LED glasses for guests at the wedding also, and it was refreshing to see Barb and other staff members enjoying them and dancing to the music, having a good time. The next day when we came to pick up our things, everything was at the back door waiting for us. Barb made a point to greet us, thank us for having our wedding with them, and gave me a hug before we left. If I had any criticism about the venue, my only suggestion would be to dim the main lights more in the tent during the dancing, but it was definitely not something that put a damper on the night. I had no complaints from guests, family, or bridal party members regarding the venue or their employees. I have nothing but appreciation for everyone at Black Hills Receptions, especially Barb. By the end of our time working together, I felt like I had known her for years. Reviewed on 09-10-2022
Camille Wilson(bride)1 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 27-08-2022 *Real bride experience*It is a shame that a venue this gorgeous has a manager that made our guests and family very unwelcome. Started out the rehearsal with getting yelled at for parking in the wrong spot and stating “I told you in an email where to park”. No email was send regarding where to park and a simple question asking us to move would have sufficed. The day of the wedding was terrible for our guests and family members helping set up. Every move that my family did to help set up was wrong in the managers eyes and she would yell at them for changing things I requested to be changed. When you pay $6,600 dollars to be there from 11am-11pm, you expect the party to last that time frame. The tear down started at 9pm and only three tables were left decorated by 10pm. Our guests felt like they had to leave early. The next morning we were told to have our things picked up by 10am. We had one family member come at 8am to start loading stuff only to get yelled at by the manager for being the only one there to pick up 2 hours early. This manager did not speak to us the morning after, although the courteous thing to do is thank or congratulate the newlyweds. This manager is extremely unprofessional and a terrible micromanager because all she does is yell orders at people. She is going to run this beautiful venue into the ground. I do not recommend this venue if you want to enjoy your wedding with guests that want to party. Reviewed on 29-08-2022
Jordan Mutchelknaus(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 07-09-2019 To say my experience with Black Hills Receptions was flawless would be an understatement. Joanne and Barb were so amazing to work with and they literally have everything you need for a venue. I cannot stress enough how great it is that a venue has all the decor you need, sets up everything from the ceremony to the cocktail hour to the reception and tears it all down as well. On top of that they box up anything you left from the wedding so you can pick it up the morning after. To not have to worry about setting up or tearing down anything was such a stress reliever and it made my wedding day ten times more enjoyable, not only for me but for my mom, mother-in-law and all of our family because we knew everything would be taken care of. Oh and not to mention one of the most important parts, the venue is GORGEOUS! I am from Sioux Falls and I cannot tell you how many compliments we received on how well maintained and beautiful the venue was. Overall, I am so thankful for Joanne and Barb for making my wedding dreams come true. Reviewed on 15-04-2020

Even though it rained, Joanne gave us all very cute umbrellas to use. They made our wedding photos even cuter! It is great they have so many options for the venue and reception sites. I just had my wedding at Black Hills Receptions this past weekend and they did an amazing job! They were so helpful with every step of the process, especially as I was coordinating this wedding from out of state. \r\rTrish and Joanne were wonderful in helping me schedule shuttle buses for my guests, suggest bands, caterers, florists, etc. And we met briefly over Xmas to go over decor pieces. We were able to knock everything out in 1 afternoon, choosing the exact table runners, glasses, plates, accents, and chair toppers that I wanted. We also did a donut bar instead of a traditional cake, and I explained that I wanted to have it spread out in different tiers with each flavor highlighted. Wow, they exceeded my expectations with how they laid out the table. I had 16 dozen donuts, with 16 different flavors and they did an amazing job with laying it all out in such a fun and unique way, not at all boring or like a buffet. It was almost like exploring the table to see what was available. My guests loved it and couldn't get enough. \r\rThey also helped me figure out how much alcohol to buy for my number of guests, laid everything out just beautifully, and when it started to rain just before my ceremony started, they were fantastic with quickly moving everything from Swan Point to the Gazebo to make it an indoor ceremony. The decorations and aisle flowers all looked perfect, like they had taken hours to set up in stead of a mere 20 min. I was very impressed. They were also on hand for most of the night to make sure things ran smoothly. \r\rOverall, a very professional and well run venue with built in wedding planning. And very reasonably priced, with a liquor license so you can bring whatever alcohol you want, including cocktails. Very difficult to find in the Black Hills. Plus the site is beautiful, nestled into the trees with lots of beautiful vantage points for photos.\r\rI highly recommend using Black Hills Receptions for your nuptials! Reviewed on 27-05-2015
Megan Norfolk(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 30-08-2014 For my Husband and I, it took a while to find a venue that we could connect with. BHRR had everything we needed, wanted and more. The ladies here are awesome, they are very easy to get a hold of, respond fast, have great recommendations (for vendors, decorations, etc). The venue itself is beautiful and well kept. There are two places you can choose to get married: Swan Point or the Grand Gazebo. We got married in the Grand Gazebo, in August. The area that the guest sat was covered so it wasn't too hot. The Gazebo has a lighted chandelier, so if you choose a late evening wedding, you will have light. There are very well hidden speakers for a microphone and music set up. Words cannot express how beautiful this location is. The reception tent is down hill from the two points. It has a bathroom, kitchen, dance floor, windows/doors, A/C (probably heat too, since they do weddings all year round), and all the things that you ask/pay for. It is pricey, but you pay for what you get. We enjoyed working with the BHRR team and are very happy to recommend them to other brides and grooms. They give you the full Fairy Godmother's treatment, (Dress and shoes not included). Reviewed on 02-11-2014

Trisch and Joanne were amazing. They had great communication and worked with me to cut costs and still make the wedding look amazing they're a lot of fun to boot! Another plus of going with them is that thy have a photographer on staff that snaps pics behind your photographer to put on a TV during the reception. I highly recommend them.
