Cassandra Rau(bride)1 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 18-07-2020 In July we had our wedding reception here and would NOT recommend. Because the owner has lost money due to COVID-19, she tried to go back on our agreement of us using an outside catering service instead of her; she only brought up this issue a week before our reception. When we told her we had already paid our catering service she made an \"Exception\" for us. Also tried to say we couldn't bring soda to the event. On our wedding day, her air conditioning started leaking in multiple places, near the front entrance, near the dance floor, and near the buffet line. Enough to warrant putting out buckets to catch the water. She called out someone to fix the leak near the dance floor but then during the reception a leak started near the buffet line. What was her remedy to fix it? She shut the AC off for half the building. Because it's July half the building was overheated and miserable to be in. When asked what she was going to do to fix the heat issue, she pretty much said nothing. During majority of the event, she had an employee who wasn't even working that day, hang around and bs at the bar the entire time. Really unprofessional. On top of all that everyone who interacted with the owner said she was short and irritated with them, even if that was their first time interacting with her. Several of our outside vendors, food & DJ service, had issues getting into the venue due to the owner being gone. The owner requested am hour-by-hour itinerary from us for the day, even though we paid for the use of the venue and gave her a general timeline of the day. She also added, a week before our event, a $100 gratuity fee; when asked about it and stating it is usually up to the patron to decide gratuity she said that it her fee and we agreed to pay when we went with her--it is nowhere in her agreement about the fee. Was the venue beautiful? Absolutely. Did we have a great time? Absolutely. Would I use this venue again if given a choice? Not without serious changes and improvements in customer service. Dray Carlton(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 07-05-2016 We LOVED having our wedding there! It was like being among family working with the blackjack staff :-) not to mention all of our photos turned out so beautifully and we didn't have to stress about any of the decorating! We had so many and I mean so many, remarks on how delicious the food was and how seamless the serving and the transition to the dancing, and the desert being brought out at just the right time, and then snacks later in the night, and how well everything was done. I almost felt bad like I was taking credit for work I didn't do! We could not have had a better wedding reception experience than the one we had at blackjack! Reviewed on 29-12-2016
Megan Molitor(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 25-08-2012 We wanted a laid back, country feel to our wedding, and Black Jack Hills was perfect for our reception. The venue is beautiful and rustic. We had to do minimal decorating inside because the place itself is decoration. Joni is wonderful to work with and eager to please. Anything we wanted, we got it. I highly recommend them! Reviewed on 09-09-2012
Libby Kieffer(bride)2 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 14-07-2012 We mainly chose this place because of the location and setting but we were also satisfied with the price per head as far as food goes and the owner's seemingly openness to accomodate for recipes that we wanted to have on our wedding day that were off menu. Not what happened at all- she made it seem like the very simple recipes I requested were going to be too much work and she also changed the price per head since we put our deposit down and did not honor the other price (this being 2 weeks before the wedding knowing that it was too late for us to make other arrangements). The price was raised $1.81 per head...\rNot to mention, several times we talked to the owner, she didn't have us marked in her calendar for the day we reserved! She asked us the same questions over and over again and seemed to never know what was going on regardless of how many times she was given information.\rAll in all, our wedding turned out good but the business is not very professionally and ethically run. I would have found another location and caterer if I knew what was going to happen. Reviewed on 03-08-2012
Tonya Calhoon(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 19-03-2011 I was reluctant with going with a buffet style. However we purchased some unique disposable plates and rolled cultery packets & set the tables to still keep things looking formal.. The food at Black Jack Hills is delicious and it did not have a back yard bbq feel. We did the whole hog and I was slightly disappointed that the hog was cut up before the event. There was this huge metal smoker tray with the hogs head just sitting there dressed with sunglasses and an apple then next to it was the foil pan with the shredded meat.. If I knew they'd be bringing the head on a tray I would have chosen a different option it.... Because essentially they served pulled pork sandwiches which is NOT what I wanted and the NEVER asked. Okay now that that's been said. The food was delicious, the two ladies that were there to set up the buffet were extremely nice, they did work with the head count before wedding.. They can improve on their communication and not make decisions for their customers. Shredding it prior was probably easier for them but not asking your client if they want pulled pork sandwiches.. especially when that is a cheaper option on the select menu. Long story with communicating.. They are worth going through just make sure to set expectations to the tee otherwise they will just make the choices for your. Reviewed on 30-03-2011
