Blue Hill Farm is an elegant & classy country wedding venue with all the modern amenities and just the right amount of rustic charm. We entered onto the Washington DC scene in mid 2016 with a proposition to truly be a fresh canvas for couples to create the wedding of their dreams. The potential was evident . In January 2017, our first full year in business, Venue Report.com listed us #11 out of 80 new wedding venues globally! No pressure there to live up to high expectations. We were proud to be the venue for a wedding featured in Southern Weddings 10th Anniversary Issue in 2019 and for good measure, we were also listed in 30 Stunning Va. Wedding Venues along with some venues that we are in complete awe of. We began to realize this was no fluke. In 2021, we were listed among the Top 10 Wedding Venues in Loudoun County. Over 100 beautiful couples have started a wonderful new life together here and we are proud to consider them all family. We are honored to be back to back winners of Wedding Wire's Couple's Choice Award each year from 2018 through 2023. We are also recipients of The Knot's Best Of Wedding Award every year from 2020 through 2023. We welcome the chance to hear from you and to get to know you and what your particular vision is for your special day. We have become very adept at helping deliver dreams and enjoy the opportunity of helping families and couples make powerful and lifelong memories and we would love to do that for you as well.
The day of our September wedding at Blue Hill Farm was fantastic. We enjoy the hospitality that Waldo and Shirley provided us the night before and day of the wedding. We got nothing but compliments from our guests about the wedding and the venue. Folks all enjoyed the atmosphere and the bonfire to cap off the evening. Reviewed on 29-12-2023

My husband and I got married at Blue Hill Farm in September of 2023, and it was absolutely the most perfect place to have a wedding. From the ceremony backdrop of rolling mountains, to the string lights-lit dance floor, our wedding was everything my husband and I hoped for. Waldo and Shirley were beyond accommodating, communicative, and warm -- overall the most pleasant folks to work with. They even jumped in at the last minute and helped us find a new caterer when issues arose for us the week prior to the wedding. They were essentially our wedding planners in the process, and we couldn't be more grateful for their efficiency, organization, experience, and attention to detail. We had our dinner in the big field behind the property, and with the autumn colors, it was just stunning. It was especially great to be able to customize the locations of the different elements of our reception -- the cocktail hour on the side of the house, dinner in the big field, and dancing in the carriage house. Our guests raved about the stunning views and loved moving around the property during the evening.Overall, we had a wonderful experience with Waldo and Shirley (and Yogi, the couple's golden retriever!) and we're in love with what was the most perfect day at Blue Hill Farm. My husband and I got married at Blue Hill Farm in October of this year and it was amazing! The scenery and time of year made it even better. Waldo and Shirley are great to work with. They already have a lot of tables/equipment etc, and they also have lists of vendors they have worked with in the past, with is super helpful when you don’t know where to start. We used various vendors from their lists. Waldo and Shirley can provide recommendations based on what you want and I recommend following them, especially when it comes to weather and contingencies. Blue Hill Farm is an absolutely stunning venue full of unique qualities that other venues lack. From the views, to the gorgeous white home, to the spacious carriage house, and the beautiful plot of land, you CANNOT go wrong. Our guests couldn't stop complimenting on how incredible Blue Hill Farm was for our wedding. What's most special, is the ability to stay the night in the home for one night or all weekend if you choose! This characteristic made it extra special for me and my bridesmaids the night before and sharing a morning of breakfast cooked by Shirley! Waldo and Shirley have great compassion for their couples and they work hard to create the wedding of your dreams. Thank you for an incredible experience!!!!! Reviewed on 08-11-2023

Shirley and Waldo made sure our late May wedding weekend went off without a hitch! We had a great, small welcome dinner in the carriage house and beautiful gravel driveway - plenty of tables, seating, and speakers for music for the whole evening! We had a wonderful morning and afternoon preparing for our late afternoon ceremony and evening reception. The weather was sunny for the whole morning and afternoon - only sprinkling as soon as our ceremony was over. Waldo and Shirley were already prepared with the necessary tents and umbrellas for our guests to use during cocktail hour and dinner service. During cocktail hour, Blue Hill Farm let us invite wildlife ambassadors from a local wildlife rescue to visit to educate guests on cool local wildlife - Shirley and Waldo were so wonderful and flexible with requests such as that! We had three food trucks (a taco station, pizza truck, and BBQ truck) on the driveway and by the carriage house for dinner service...it went great EVEN when it was downpouring. The guests had a blast on the dance floor with a great live band in the carriage house and Waldo put together a bonfire for us after the rain stopped.Sunday morning was our laid-back brunch for guests to say bye before they departed. It was a great way to end the weekend. We are a couple who loves animals and having Yogi and the chickens around was a blast! Shirley and Waldo are so dear to our hearts and feel like family. We are already looking forward to visiting them again soon. Reviewed on 01-11-2023

What an amazing venue! We got married here in June 2023, and are so grateful to Waldo & Shirley for opening up their beautiful home to us and our 140 guests. The whole experience was first-class. From helping us find vendors, to figuring out options for filters and fans when the air quality plummeted following the Canadian wildfires, Waldo & Shirley were on top of everything, big & small. One thing that we loved was that we could do pictures + ceremony + cocktails + reception + dancing all in one place. Another was the flexibility to work with just about any vendor, and the license to do our wedding the way that we wanted. They worked with us hand in hand to bring about our vision, making sure the day was perfectly customized for us. Being able to stay overnight at the venue also made set up and clean up very easy and efficient, something that we highly recommend. Plus Shirley’s egg & cheese biscuits were delicious!! Alexander Warzinski(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 29-10-2022 We fell in love with the views of the venue and the fact that it is so outdoor-centric. The contract was for the space alone (plus some additional decoration/event items like bar, vases, tables, and chairs), so that meant we could piece together what we wanted in terms of caterer, etc. Waldo and Shirley are very involved in the process and make sure all your ducks are in a row and they provided a very hospitable touch throughout the process, from planning, to day-of, to debrief. Tents are extra through one of their vendor connections, so the overall venue price was on the high end for us. That being said, we got tons of compliments on the venue (2nd only to the food!). The venue was beautiful and we could not have been happier with our choice to have it here. The Tibbetts were very professional and helped us greatly with all of the planning and vendors. The house on the property was clean, well maintained, and perfect place for the wedding party to get ready. We had a short ceremony in front of the house that overlooked the gorgeous rolling hills around the property. The carriage house was great for dancing though we did have the dance floor extended out into the driveway to accommodate our size of wedding. We opted for a large tent behind the pool/carriage house for dinner, and it was really beautiful to eat there while the sun was setting over the venue. The Tibbetts can be very particular about certain things (especially the grass), but their attention to detail helped to wedding turn out great. Mason Ferguson(bride)1 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 04-11-2023 We felt we were TAKEN ADVANTAGE of by Blue Hill Farm B&B. Blue Hill initially quoted us a price within our budget and then changed it, unexpectedly and without much explanation, within a year of our wedding date, causing us to redo our entire wedding plan and seek an alternative venue. To top it all off, Blue Hill still won't respond to our emails or give us our money back. We initially received a quote for an “all inclusive” package for 100 guests for $10,500. When we subsequently toured the property, we were informed that it cost $1000 to save a wedding date. We were advised to save two dates, one as a primary and one as a backup. We sent Waldo $2k via venmo once we identified two open dates for fall the following year. After submitting the money to Waldo, we did not receive an official price proposal until nearly 9 months later. When inquiring, Waldo would take several days, if not weeks, to respond to our emails. When we received the proposal, we were informed it would cost $19,079 ($18,079 with military discount) — nearly 2x what we were quoted. Waldo failed to provide an explanation for the increase other than “Pricing is a tricky situation only because we offer so much flexibility and different options. The original intent in providing any pricing was to discourage and weed out those with a sub $10k budget from falling in love and wanting to do a tour etc. That's not good for anyone.” (directly quoted from an email I received) Further, when we spoke with Waldo via phone, said he \"has never had a couple wait so long to tell him their wedding budget.\" No wedding vendor has EVER asked me what our overall wedding budget was. It is completely inappropriate to do so. The $10,500 venue met our budget and we chose to move forward based on that information, simple as that. Because of Blue Hill Farm's lack of professionalism and refusal to acknowledge the initial quote we received, we did not proceed with Blue Hill B&B as our wedding venue. We asked for our \"save the date\" money back but have not received it to date. Since we did not sign a contract saying the save the date money was non-refundable (which Waldo confirmed in an email) we are FULLY entitled to a refund and plan to pursue legal action as a result. After taking several weeks to respond to our multiple emails, I posted my original review and contacted the Better Business Bureau. The review got Waldo's attention and he said he was willing to give us half our deposit back ($1K) if we retracted our statement to the BBB and deleted all of our reviews. Additionally, Waldo drafted a 'Hold Harmless Agreement' in an effort to intimidate us. We filed in Small Claims Court in Loudon County in an effort to get our full refund back. We won the judgement but to date, Waldo still has not given us back our money. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT choose this venue. There are many others nearby that are way more affordable, professional, and responsive than Blue Hill Farm. Note to all those out there: If a business wants you to pay via venmo, make sure you mark the \"goods and services\" button because Paypal will protect you. Reviewed on 17-11-2022

May 8th 2021 was a great day thanks to Waldo and Shirley. From meeting Waldo and Shirley and touring their venue you quickly felt as if you are being welcomed into their home. The wedding itself was beautiful, efficient, and perfect coordinated. We had roughly 100 guest many of which were impressed by the scenery of Western Loudoun county. With 100 people there was no issue with parking, the venue housed everyone easily. The views are not done justice by pictures, I recommend a tour in person to get the full illustration. The Tibbetts did a perfect job of setting expectations of what we needed to get done on a short time (30 days!) and are very helpful along the way. Waldo's relationship with multiple vendors helped us to have a very stress free process while coming down the homestretch. Our original venue cancelled on us with a very short notice putting our wedding in jeopardy. If it wasn't for Blue Hills Farms I'm not sure what we would of done. Bri and I would highly recommend the venue not only for the beautiful view but because I trust Tibbetts to give you the wedding your bride dreamed of since she was a little girl. In addition to our wedding day, we had Blue Hill Farm host a women-only flower party for our wedding arrangements in lieu of a rehearsal dinner the Friday before our big day. The view of the blue ridge mountains in the distance, the serene hayfield blowing in the wind adjacent to the big open grassy area (perfect for sunset photos!), the large floor of the Carriage House with all our friends/family dancing the night away, the impressive bonfire and s’mores cart to bring some sweetness to our day, the homey and welcoming stay of our night at the B&B with Shirley and Waldo…all will be memories we cherish and moments we’ll never forget! We reached out to Shirley and Waldo so see if they would work with us in creating a small, intimate \"mini-mony.\" In just a few short weeks, Shirley and Waldo worked with us to create our dream elopement , completely altering their normal operations to accommodate us. Since it was so last minute, we didn't know how to organize and plan this day, but they were wonderful with ideas, accommodations, and support. Shirley helped decorate the Carriage House (even cutting flowers from her own garden!!) and worked with the caterer to set up a gorgeous place setting for our immediate family members and us. Waldo worked tirelessly to setup the floor plans, the ceremony seating, and made sure everything was in place. They were just wonderful to work with and we can't recommend them enough. Meaghan Dunn(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 10-10-2020 My husband, Ben, and I began our search for a wedding venue in August 2020. In all honesty, we were not expecting to find a venue with any dates available in October, especially with our shortened timeline and during COVID! We were so fortunate to find Blue Hill Farm! The venue is so charming, with gorgeous rolling hills in the front, a rustic carriage house, and beautiful gardens and greenery throughout the property. It was everything that we were hoping to find in a venue, and every aspect was stunning in our photos. We held our ceremony in the front of the house overlooking the rolling hills of Waterford. Our cocktail hour was set up in the garden on the side of the house, and our reception was held in the carriage house. There were so many little details and spaces that allowed our guests to feel comfortable and socially distance. The venue owners, Shirley and Waldo, are wonderful people, they were so warm and inviting from the get-go. During our initial visit, they gave us a tour (with their dog, Yogi!) and talked to us in detail about what they offered and what we were envisioning for our special day. We felt so comfortable developing our vision with them, and we felt confident that we would be in great hands with them being so involved in the process. We visited one other wedding venue prior to visiting Blue Hill Farm, and we knew immediately that Blue Hill Farm offered a much more personalized experience for us and our guests. On our wedding day, Shirley helped Ben set our tables and picked flowers from her gardens to spruce up our reception space, this was such a lovely gesture and so appreciated!Within 24 hours of visiting their property, Waldo provided us with available dates, a quote, and detailed package information for our intimate 16-guest wedding. They offer so many options in their packages, including a bonfire, a dancefloor, custom farm tables, wine barrels, and the list goes on. If we had gone through with another venue, we would have paid a fortune for everything that they offered. Ben and I were a bit hesitant in planning a wedding during a pandemic, but we are so glad that we did. Our wedding was everything that we dreamed it would be and more! Our closest friends and family were so complimentary and raved about the venue. Thank you so much, Shirley and Waldo! Blue Hill Farm will always hold a special place in our hearts. They were so accommodating at such short notice, and made us feel like they genuinely wanted us to have the best day possible. The property itself is enough to make anyone want to spend their wedding day here. The rolling hills overlooking the mountains, the beautifully built farmhouse, the carriage house perfect for dancing, and the well kept field perfect for social distancing! When you book with them, you’re getting their full attention and use of the private property - which is great! Waldo & Shirley have a very customized and friendly approach to each wedding-- they try to understand the feel you're going for and work with you to refine the details. Their personal touch spanned from advising on how best to use the space to showcasing the stunning scenery to making breakfast sandwiches for the bridesmaids on the morning of our wedding to connecting us with someone to groom our puppy to be the cutest ring-bearer ever :) We were going for a fun, not-too-stuffy, and somewhat intimate event (we had about 115 guests in total) and the combination of outdoor ceremony + tented dinner + dancing in the carriage house was absolutely perfect. We had an amazing dance party in the carriage house while guests also had the chance to take a break to roast marshmallows around the firepit. There was a lot of flexibility in the week leading up in terms of dropping stuff off at various times, which was a huge help. It was also so nice to stay in the Bed and Breakfast for the whole weekend because we really got to know the space and didn't have to worry about transit or coordinating where the wedding party could get ready. We ended up doing both our rehearsal dinner and wedding at the venue, and I'm so glad we did because we were able to capture the feel of the place all weekend long. Shirley and Waldo were so helpful when it came to answering all of the questions that we had during our wedding planning. They have great response time via email! They have so many options and suggestions available for how you want your wedding and reception to go. We ended up renting a tent for the reception, and used the carriage house/patio area for our DIY photo booth, remembrance table, gift table, cocktail hour bar, and late night doughnut table. One of the biggest perks of Blue Hill Farm in my opinion is the option to rent the venue for the whole weekend, which is what we did. Their price for the venue for the whole weekend was very reasonable, considering many venues around the area charge near the same amount or more for just one day. My family and I were able to drop off decorations, alcohol, etc. on Friday morning, before coming back for the rehearsal. My bridesmaids and I stayed at the house on Friday night, and on Saturday morning, we were able to relax and eat some breakfast and coffee prepared by Shirley and Waldo. The space flows naturally from ceremony to cocktail hour to reception. As the reception progressed guests could join the fun on the dance floor, relax by the pool, or enjoy the roaring fire Waldo built. It was a blistering hot August day, but we preferred the sun over rain!Waldo and Shirley were incredibly helpful throughout the lead up and on the big day. We were a bit more on the DIY-end for certain things, and they were very accomodating of storing things or offering items they had on hand. When we had an unconventional approach and wanted our bartender and his buddy from our every-Friday bar to handle drinks at our wedding, Blue Hill worked with us to find a solution that allowed us to have a dream team set of bartenders but with the right insurance that kept everyone happy. We highly recommend renting Blue Hill for the entire weekend. The venue was great for a relaxed rehearsal on Friday. Rather than rushing to “get in” and then “get out” we had plenty of time to make sure everything was exactly how we wanted it. We would note however that in addition to the upfront cost of renting the venue, there are several additional fees for things you might expect to be included. Waldo and Shirley Tibbetts' spectacular property provided the perfect setting for a spectacular weekend. From their gorgeous, warm home where the bridal party of 8 spent Friday night in four guest rooms, waking to Shirley's delicious breakfast, a morning run through historic Waterford and a fun day of hair and make up in their spacious bridal area upstairs, to the picture perfect setting for the ceremony on their expansive front lawn overlooking Sugarloaf Mountain, to cocktails around their lovely carriage house and pool, to a night of dining and dancing under a gorgeous tent...the event couldn't have been more perfect. Jeff P(groom)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 06-10-2018 Beautiful venue, freedom to personalize wedding, amazing hands-on ownersWe knew that Blue Hill was where we’d like to hold our wedding after our first visit. The owners, Shirley and Waldo were kind, friendly, and accommodating to many of our requests. We were able to really personalize our wedding to reflect our personalities. This personalization is probably hard to do at other venues we visited that are incredibly strict with their regulations. The amount of land available to use is amazing and we even stayed on site Saturday night since the venue also serves as a BNB. Throughout the wedding planning process, Shirley and Waldo were very responsive and gave very helpful vendor suggestions that were reasonably priced. The venue provides a wide amount of decoration and furniture to use (some which are free and some that are not). We also had a DOC (Shirley and Waldo’s daughter) help us with the planning during the month leading up to our wedding. On the day of, Shirley and Waldo were busy helping us set up the carriage house, taking care of the property, and making sure our vision becomes reality. We got very lucky that there was no rain so we got to enjoy our wedding mostly outdoors. Since Blue Hill only holds one wedding per weekend, we really got to enjoy the space and not rush to set things up and break things down, as opposed to many other venues around the area where clean up needs to happen by midnight of your wedding and strict time limit. We are incredibly happy with our decision and had the most wonderful wedding and experience at Blue Hill! Reviewed on 18-04-2019
Emmy Thompson(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 03-06-2017 When we found Blue Hill Farm we knew it was the exact location we were looking for! I wanted an outdoor wedding and the view of the rolling mountains would be perfect for our photos. Shirley and Waldo were extremely personable from our very first meeting and invited us into their home as if we were old friends. I was a DIY bride all the way, and the Tibbetts worked with me every step to ensure my dream would be reality. They were beyond accommodating and put in far more effort than your typical venue owners. The Farmhouse has the perfect bridal party suite to accommodate wardrobe, hair & makeup. The property provides ample acreage to create whatever vision you have for your big day. Every time I visit the Farm new props have been built to add to the venue. This couple have put their heart and soul into turning this venue into a place where couples can come and make memories to last a lifetime. You will not be disappointed! Reviewed on 17-04-2019

Chris Z(groom)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 03-11-2018 Beautiful venue run by beautiful people. In our quest to find a venue that represented our goals for our wedding, my wife and I visited a lot of farms, barns, wineries, and B&Bs in the Virginia area. We ultimately settled on Blue Hill Farm because Shirley & Waldo seemed genuinely excited to host events, willing to support our vision, and capable of pulling it all off. We liked the ability to have the place be \"ours\" for the weekend and to not have to worry about packing up and loading out by a certain time. Basically we wanted a place that wasn't going to have a million rules and pester us for the weekend of our wedding. We've been married for a month and had some time to reflect on our experience and I feel like it's time to say what a truly magnificent experience spending our wedding weekend at Blue Hill Farm was. First, the obvious, this place is BEAUTIFUL. You can plainly see it as soon as you step foot on their property. Stunning. But you can find beautiful venues anywhere. What exists at Blue Hill Farm is way more than a pretty spot. It's a place full of love, hospitality, and dedication. Shirley & Waldo are hard-working, passionate, patient, and gracious. They worked tirelessly to ensure that all the behind-the-scenes stuff stayed behind the scenes. Professionally, I'm a photographer and I work in catering operations and I planned the entire wedding myself. I've seen hundreds of weddings, knew what I wanted, and worked with Shirley & Waldo to execute on that vision. And rarely in 15 years of professional events experience have I encountered two people I liked more. If you're looking for a beautiful place to get married where you'll feel right at home from the first handshake to the last, a place where you can create your own vision or follow the lead of some creative and experienced professionals, and a place you'll want to come back and visit when it's all done, Blue Hill Farm is it. Seriously, book it. Reviewed on 16-04-2019
Jane Weiseman(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 26-05-2018 Blue Hill Farm is the Perfect Venue for the Perfect Wedding! We used Blue Hill Farm for the entire weekend. We had a poolside meet and greet Friday night for family and friends who traveled in for the wedding and had a wonderful Sunday brunch in the carriage house using our same decorations for the wedding reception for anyone who wanted to come by for one last goodbye. Shirley and Waldo were awesome hosts! Weddings can be stressful but Shirley was quick to use imaginative ways to set up our flowers at the last minute and had wonderful tips for us through the entire process. She really put us at ease with her \"everything is going to turn out fine\" attitude....because it did! Waldo made sure the grounds and all the facilities were in perfect condition for the weekend. We mainly worked with Shirley on the details of the wedding and she was always very responsive to our emails. Her suggestions for flowers, catering, tent company were all spot on. The setting itself lends to a beautiful yet casual feel. Our guests all raved about how absolutely perfect the carriage house and the grounds were. Alexa W(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 15-09-2018 After touring a couple of other wedding venues, we toured Blue Hill Farm and immediately knew it was the best selection for us. We fell in love with the view on the front hill and the ample space in the backyard for a tent. The venue (aside from its overall beautiful aesthetic) also checked a lot of boxes for us: no mandatory vendors, 15 minutes away from a major airport, and lots of hotel options. We could not be more pleased with our decision. The entire process from the time we booked in December until September was great. We lived local to the area and I was impressed with how available Waldo and Shirley made themselves. We visited the venue several times prior to the wedding to show our parents, figure out logistics, and meet with our day of coordinator. Waldo and Shirley were always flexible and answered our many questions. Our wedding ended up falling during the week of Hurricane Florence. When the track had the hurricane coming up the Chesapeake, I was on daily calls with Waldo and he was helping us troubleshoot solutions. Waldo even called our rental company to make sure they would still support us even if the weather was subpar. The actual day ended up being hurricane-free but we are so thankful for the support we had from BHF prior. Everything on our day worked out perfectly. Waldo and Shirley made themselves available and helped make sure everything was ready to go. Our guests had no issues getting to the venue and loved the setting. We are so happy with how everything turned out – Thank you Blue Hill Farm! Reviewed on 16-04-2019
Kyle Fredrickson(groom)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 01-09-2018 Blue Hill Farm is a beautiful bed and breakfast plus wedding venue located in the quiet Leesburg, VA area. From start to finish, our whole planning process was as easy as possible. The owners Waldo & Shirley were consistently kind and helpful in realizing our vision for our September 1st wedding. They both were extremely responsive with advice and input throughout the year leading up to our wedding, responding quickly and always up for a phone call. We appreciated their candid thoughts about what worked best in the past, and could make any modification to suit our needs. Come the weekend of our wedding, Waldo and Shirley worked tirelessly to make sure our wedding was a stress-free and enjoyable event for the two of us and our 200+ guests. Waldo went above and beyond creating a custom cross for our ceremony and they have a wide variety of props to use throughout our evening. One of our biggest worries before our event was potential rain, and even though we had a storm during our reception, Waldo ensured that it did not affect our ceremony or everyone’s of the evening. We are so thankful for the opportunity to have held our special day at Blue Hill Farm and would not hesitate recommending the venue to others! We can’t wait to return for an anniversary weekend! Amanda Fredrickson(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 01-09-2018 Being a military couple we were nervous about shopping for weddings from a distance. However, our minds were made up after talking to Waldo and Shirley! They were incredibly accommodating every single step of the way, and the entire planning process was a breeze. They were incredibly responsive, always replying within 24 hours or picking up any call. The wedding couldn’t have gone better - it was so convenient to have our day of coordinator and photographers stay on the venue, and Waldo and Shirley responded to every change with grace - even the massive thunderstorm that rolled through during the cocktail hour, and unexpected electricity outages in our reception tent! It was a perfect day, made even better by their kindness and attention to detail. It was great to save some money through their efforts - Waldo’s handmade dance floor, parking on site... and so much else. We can’t wait to go back for an anniversary visit! All of guests loved feeling so outdoors and the pictures turned out so beautifully. There was plenty of space for kids to run around yet elegant and classy overall at the same time. I can’t recommend Blue Hill enough for your wedding venue - with the added bonus of how awesome Waldo and Shirley are to work with and get to know! Reviewed on 16-04-2019
Bobbie Jo Herbold(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 09-06-2018 Oh wow, what can we say about our most magical, wondrous wedding day on June 9, 2018?! The Blue Hill Farm came highly recommended to us by a mutual friend who attended a wedding the year before. Upon arriving the location, we immediately loved the expansive green pasture, perfectly painted white fence, and gorgeous structures on the property. We also loved the idea of renting the property for the entire weekend so that we could have an ease of mind in preparing for our wedding (which included a lot of DIY projects from my family!!) with 100 guests. Our style was very hands-on and close-knit with a lot of involvement from our families and friends. We had our casual 30 people dinner rehearsal (the original catering backed out, and Shirley helped with a last minute phone call to a local pizzeria!!) at the old barn the evening before the wedding day, then the bridesmaids slept at the main house with the bride. The bridal party (5 of us) woke up to a home cooked breakfast, and the hair/make up team arrived to do their magic on us. The groomsmen set up the reception area on the morning of the wedding day. The bridesmaids got ready comfortably in their ensuite master bathroom while the groomsmen got ready on the first floor. Everyone (florist, DJ, wedding day coordinator, caterer, photographer, photo booth specialist, videographers) arrived at the venue throughout the day and the owners (Shirley and Waldo) offered support, made recommendations and did a last minute run to the food store for ice! We did not feel pressurized to abide by their recommendations but we completely trusted their taste and the collaboration was totally effortless. Shirley and Waldo were presented with such a unique situation-- nearly everyone at the wedding was Deaf! However, communication was comfortable, with a lot of emails and handwritten notes. Shirley provided several drafts of the reception layout prior to the big day which was helpful in visualizing the space in the Carriage House. Shirley and Waldo exhibited a perfect balance of being super helpful and supportive while also staying behind the scenes. Ask for their ala carte list of items for rental and service fees because they are expansive and gorgeous. Our wedding day had a forecast of a possible thunderstorm in the middle of our reception and the venue was accommodating with several backup plans-- then it rained for only 15 minutes during the toast. The wedding celebration closed out with a fun bonfire completed with smores, and a line up of sparklers with raucous guests then Waldo assisted with the shuttle bus herding the guests and we, as happy newlyweds, just walked up to the main house. We enjoyed a bottle of wine and a couple of cigars on their porch overlooking the site of our ceremony. Looking back, it was such a whirlwind, yet superbly perfect day. Nearly six months later, we are still thankful for such a wonderful experience and we still love reminiscing our special day through this amazing video (https://youtu.be/FNsd3O7nJ3w) Reviewed on 28-11-2018
callie Fry(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 08-09-2018 Blue Hill Farm did not disappoint. My husband and I live in Dallas TX and during the planning process we were unable to visit the venue. My mother face-timed me walking through and I knew right away that this is where I needed to have our wedding. Shirley and Waldo were the absolute best hosts and the biggest help throughout the entire process. When I finally was able to visit the venue (4 days before the wedding day) my breath was taken away once again and I knew I made the right choice. I knew I had to have my wedding back home in VA where you have the mountains and natural background available. Blue Hill Farm gives you the stunning 360 view a fun and easy flowing wedding. The inside of the house where we all got ready is just perfect. The boys have their area downstairs which is ultimately where the boys watched our Alma Mater’s Foot-ball game before the big day. The girls have a stunning bathroom to get ready in along with elegant bedrooms which were stunning for photos and more than enough room to get ready in. For the bride its perfect, you are able to see what all is going on. I did not have a wedding planner so seeing my family and friends help set things up throughout the day was very helpful. The flow of the wedding is so easy with the way their land is set up. People don’t have to walk far or back and forth with whatever way you decide to have your special day set up. I cannot say enough good things about Blue Hill Farm, The hosts, the view and the atmosphere cannot be matched. I would not change anything about the venue and the help that you get with Shirley and Waldo is unmatched.HUGE THANK YOU!! Reviewed on 14-11-2018

Shirley and Waldo were really the icing on the cake, though. They were so helpful from the first day I emailed them, easy to chat with, and genuinely wonderful people. They want to help their couples pull off their wedding dreams in any way that they can. They were always quick to respond with answers to our questions, flexible on woking with our various vendors, and accommodating with allowing us to come view and tour the property multiple times. Stephanie Schoeneman(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 02-06-2018 Blue Hill Farm was the perfect spot for our intimate wedding! We had full reign of the venue from Friday through Sunday morning and was able to take our time setting up and tearing down. Waldo and Shirley are the absolute sweetest and made sure everything was perfect for our day. We were able to rent out the B&B rooms and stay at the venue the night before with immediate family, which was nice not to have to rush the day of the wedding. Waldo and Shirley were nice enough to keep an eye on the passing storms the afternoon of, and were able to help set up the ceremony quickly to allow us to have the ceremony outside. The carriage house is absolutely stunning as well, and is a great area to have the dinner/reception. Waldo and Shirley have so many things on site to rent for a small fee (tables, bars, patio furniture, table decorations, etc.). I will always cherish this venue for its beauty and those who helped us during this process. Finding the perfect venue is one of the biggest check marks on a wedding check list, upon walking onto this venue it won our hearts over instantly. If you love a modern and floral theme this is the place hands down. The gorgeous backdrop of the Potomac where our ceremony took place was divine and the reception in the carriage house left people in awe! I also loved that the home is as airbnb so that guests could stay at the venue if need be. They have a lot of options at the venue for decorating, lights, bar set up, everything you could possibly need. We only needed to get a dance floor and chairs! How amazing is that? Also, Shirley and Waldo were the most accommodating people we have ever met. They welcomed us like family and helped whenever they could. Everyone left with a smile on their face and it’s all because of their fantastic venue setting up for a spectacular wedding. Reviewed on 11-11-2017
We met in college in Richmond , fell in love and got married in 1991. We are blessed with two beautiful daughters. We love nature and beautiful, scenic, pastoral views so working hard outside on our property is a given. We love animals and have an awesome dog Yogi and cat Peach and a horse that doesn't live with us. We love to meet new people and have them experience the beauty that we live with each and every day. We don't take it for granted! Becoming a venue was a way to allow others couples to benefit from these views and start their lives together surrounded by awe inspiring nature.
