The rehearsal dinner we hosted at Boatwerks was very nice. The Macatawa Room suited our 33 guests perfectly. Our coordinator worked hard to accommodate our food and table layout requests. The view of the patio and lake from this room was beautiful. The servers were excellent and the food was great! The only downside would be how the actual Boatwerks staff communicates with those renting space for an event. They were not very hospitable and made it very clear they are not a part of the event planning crew. Reviewed on 09-10-2023

The BEST place to have your wedding! Boatwerks was an incredible wedding venue. We got married this past weekend and it went off without a hitch. All the employees (Hannah, waitstaff, cooks, bartenders, et al) were all professional and couldn’t say enough about the quality of service they provided. The venue speaks for itself. Incredible views of the water on your big day! What else is there to say? Hey that rhymes…There are 2 spots to get drinks (indoor/outdoor) and folding doors to dance in and out. Also outdoor cocktail tables. Drinks were poured well. The FOOD WAS RIDICULOUSLY AMAZING. We loved the beer and salmon served plates and so did all of our guests. Also loved the potatoes and green beans. The cakes, cupcakes, and gluten free cupcakes were also incredible. Guys/gals get changing suites and can order drinks to them. Perfect for getting ready close by. Speaking of close by, Kollen park is a stones throw away for gorgeous pictures.100/10 would recommend Boatwerks to others Reviewed on 28-09-2023

My husband and I had our wedding ceremony and reception at Boatwerks Restaurant in mid September. We had the BEST experience working with them. They were very easy to work with, accommodating, and responsive. The staff is AWESOME to work with and very friendly. The wedding turned out so amazing and I highly recommend anyone considering to have their wedding there to do it! You will not regret it. On top of the staff and everyone being very easy to work with, the venue is so beautiful. We knew we wanted a venue that was outdoor but wanted indoor capabilities just incase of weather. Luckily we had awesome weather and it worked out perfect to have their slide in doors open all night so we had a great summer breeze. I would highly recommend the location - it is not only stunning but perfect if you want an outdoor reception BUT you do not need to stress or worry about the weather because there is an easy back up. We had about 10 people with food allergies, and they made it so easy to provide allergy-free meals for those guests! The steak was cooked to perfection. We were worried it would be overcooked since it was for a wedding, but it was a perfect medium rare!! Rachel Haumersen(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 14-10-2022 I should first start off by saying, my wedding was BEAUTIFUL! We never did any taste tastings and randomly picked our dinner choices, and all 3 turned out amazing. Our guests keep raving about how good the food was. The venue itself is gorgeous, even though it was 55 degrees the day of the wedding so unfortunately did not do outdoor cocktail hour. The ceremony was outside and although chilly, everything went super smooth, except no one was designated to hold the heavy door for me as I made my entrance, so my veil almost got stuck! Luckily I caught it in time :) I only have a couple of minor complaints. First, the chair bow ribbons with the white seat covers were the wrong color. I choose white, but silver was used instead. Not a big deal since it still matched my theme and I was given a discount. Second, I had selected green beans as the vegetable and was informed just a few days before that I would have to pick something else because they did not have any fresh ones in stock. Again, not a huge deal since asparagus was available, but I did have 125 menus printed that listed green beans and it was too late to change them. And third, which was a bigger deal, the appetizers. We ordered 5 different selections, but they completely forgot one of the 80 count apps I ordered. I was outside taking pictures so didn’t notice, but the guests informed me that we ran out of appetizers as soon as they were set out. I informed the venue and they were quick to refund my money, but still unfortunate. Overall, it was an amazing wedding and would choose this same venue all over again! You cannot beat the views at this venue, especially if you get blessed with amazing MI weather like we did on our big day! The indoor and outdoor patio space is unmatched, and the fact the dance floor is right by the large, sliding doors is great. All our guests entered around the front by the water which was a great aspect of the space as well, especially for those guests who are from out of town. The food was great - being from Holland and going to Boatwerks many times for other meals, I knew it was going to be up to my standard for a wedding. The staff I worked with too also had my best interest in mind, recommending certain side dishes that plated well and that were \"in season\" which I appreciated. They were always willing to give their advice, but also listen to my dreams and what I wanted as well. Although you have to pay, the valet parking is also a nice added touch especially on a weekend night when parking can get chaotic at the restaurant. Overall, I had no complaints about this space and would 100% book it again if I had to do it all over! Reviewed on 02-11-2022

As a celiac I was a little nervous about gluten free options but they were able to accommodate with food and deserts (and let me say the GF cake and cupcakes were very tasty). Jason went above and beyond to make sure everything was set up and the evening was running smooth from start to finish. We had Kara as our bartender who made it very simple for us to do a signature cocktail (margarita). The food and bar options are way more than are needed at a wedding but are much appreciated! I’d agree that this venue is very affordable and provides high-quality service at an accessible price point. Other venues we looked at in Grand Rapids offered much less for much more. The one thing I would caution about Boatwerks as a venue is that you should really have a coordinator of some sort. The venue doesn’t open the day of your wedding until 2 in the afternoon, so the options are: have a late ceremony or hire a coordinator. That was the only drawback but a majority of my vendors were Holland-based and were already aware of this policy! Minsoo and Julie Kim(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 02-07-2022 The venue is a great waterside place for your wedding in Holland MI. One bonus is that it is a restaurant, so you don't have to go out and look for separate vendors for food and the bar, it all comes in one! The staff were amazing and were accommodating to our needs. Jean especially answered all our questions, and we had A LOT of them, so we really appreciate her patience and her time. My guests complimented the food a lot, it was never a risk that someone be hungry here. My friends who have yet to be married mentioned to me that I set a really high bar with this wedding, but that's thanks to Boatwerks making it relatively easy. The only hiccups were that some things didn't go as we specified in our planning document, but once you mention this to the staff they adjust it to your needs accordingly. My tip is that there are a lot of fees related to adding things on, so make sure to ask questions to clarify them! There are also policies they have to follow because they are a restaurant, so this may create some limitations in your planning (like charging extra if you want to serve a non-Boatwerks cake), but none of these were dealbreakers to us. It also is on the moderately expensive side, so budget accordingly. Overall beautiful, and everyone made wonderful memories. Sarah Manner(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 17-07-2021 Overall my husband and I loved this venue. It has amazing food and even better views. We gave it a 4 because there were some stressors that happened throughout the planning process/ day of the wedding. Although we understand a pandemic was taking place there was a lack of communication with us. Often we would have to reach out to figure out what was going on and how this would effect our plans. We Initially were supposed to get married July 11th 2020 but Covid had other plans. We switched the date to July 17th 2021. That day was great aside from the following 1. When meeting with the coordinator a couple weeks prior to our event we were told we would have room access at 11. A few days later I followed up with an email to touch base when our florist would arrive and was told we couldn’t access to the room till 2:00 and that we were told this. The tone toward us in this communication was rude. None the less being a Covid couple we said okay that’s fine we will get things set up quick which we did the day of.2. We were told again by the event coordinator that we would be okay to start family pictures outside in the ceremony space at 3:00 the day of our wedding (guests were arriving at 4:00 for our 4:30 ceremony). Unfortunately and disappointingly the coordinator also had another wedding party show up for a rehearsal at 3. We were told we would have to wait for our family pictures. We were assured “it’s not a big deal they will be quick”. It was very disappointing, we were never told or asked if this was okay. It was extremely frustrating and caused a tight schedule with rushing some pictures in other locations we would have much preferred at the ceremony space. We then had guests arriving while we were trying to get pictures so as a bride I did not have time to hustle back to the bridal suite to hide from guests so they wouldn’t see me before the ceremony. instead I had to hide in a side room of the venue so guests would not see me before our ceremony.Overall the rest of the evening went lovely. Those couple of things did rub us the wrong way as far as experience so we could not give it a full five stars. For future couples I would encourage you to over communicate and check in with the coordinator about what all is going on the day of before your wedding. Including asking about other rehearsals taking place. Reviewed on 27-07-2021
Nicolette Bobolts(bride)2 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 12-09-2020 From the minute we got engaged and started looking at venues I dreamt of one close to the water but wasn’t sure it was going to exist. And then I came across Boatwerks and I fell in love immediately! It was the perfect scene, delicious food and we couldn’t wait for our special day. However, the communication and logistics that I experienced throughout the entire planning was disheartening. Examples include, but are not limited too:1. After looking at the venue and catering menu the prices and quality (mainly the bar menu) we were excited to book within our budget. However, eight months later at the tasting, we were surprised to see that the entire bar menu had changed- i.e. the gold bar package that we originally were shown included name brand liquiors such as Captain Morgan, Tito’s, etc. now only included house brand liquiors for the same exact price. Same situation with the wine choices.2. Being told that a entree from the tasting session was going to be available, only to find out months later, after we had sent our the formal invitations and RSVPs with the plated dinner options, that the dish was no longer on the menu. Mind you, that the venue had not notified us of the change but rather just picked a different meal and placed in on our menu/notes package without consulting us. While after many emails and conversations were had the issue was resolved, it should not have been an issue to begin with as it was an option at the tasting only months before our wedding.3. While no one could’ve seen COVID coming, the venue’s lack of communication and responses to the entire issue was very frustrating. There were many questions, and I was entirely anticipating that changes were going to happen and continue to happen, however, I would’ve expected those changes to be communicated from the venue’s stand point and not me having to continually questions what was going on. What was even more frustrating was the fact that I had email conformation of many questions related to the changes being made in regards to COVID, only to find out the day of my wedding (at one point during my reception as well) that it was not going to be allowed to happen the way we discussed. And not because of a change in policy per the governor, but rather simply being told the wrong information from the beginning. Issues such as dancing, how food was going to be served, where/how long the bars were going to be open, valet parking, time of music needing to end, etc.4. One of the more frustrating situations as it created a snowball effect was the seating chart arrangement for the reception. I was provided by the venue multiple options of seating arrangements via an online design portal. After selecting the one that best fit my vision and guest count for the special day, I crossed it off my list and started moving on to creating the seating assignments, purchasing correct amount of centerpiece supplies, creating the seating chart display board, etc. Again, only to find out 2 weeks before my wedding that the seating chart was not going to work as there wasn’t enough space with the size tables I had selected. Mind you, I did not design or request anything in regards to the seating chart, rather just selected one provided by the venue. Again, an issue that should’ve been avoidable. Overall my experience with the venue was poor. The food was delicious and the view still spectacular, but the communication and interactions with the coordinators truly ruined my experience. Heads up- it is pricy, but it’s SO worth it! It is a one stop shop for all kind of scenic photos, lakeside ambiance, outdoor/indoor ceremony, amazing food, alcohol, and seriously top notch service. Jean Ellis was so professional, kind and accommodating so each and every little request and question I had for over an entire year. I’m so sad it’s all over! The ceremony outside with the lights, water and boats going by was truly magical. A little tug boat even went by when we we’re saying our vows! The ballroom with the string lights (extra cost) and all of the windows overlooking the water was so stunning. Casual, romantic elegance is the right way to describe it all. I can’t say enough great things about Boatwerks and really can’t think of anything that went “wrong.” It really wasn’t possible for that with how lucky we felt to be there all day. Most of my bridesmaids said it was the best wedding they’ve ever been in. I wish I could do it all over again! THANK YOU!!! Reviewed on 03-11-2020
Katie Miller(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 17-10-2020 My husband and I were extremely excited to have our wedding ceremony and reception here. However, COVID-19 has other plans and we just had a small ceremony followed by appetizers and cocktails! It is such a beautiful venue for a ceremony with the water in the background. Book soon since it does book up fast! I have given them a 4/5 stars because of all the minor detail mishaps that happened the day of. My guests were confused on where to enter during the day of and the other wedding going on was taking pictures where my guest were suppose to walk in, which caused more confusing. I was told their was going to be a phone to order drinks in the bridal suite but the manager told my mistress of ceremony she would have to walk to the bar. Limiting my mom two appetizers because “the bride said so” when this was not the case. The bartender and restaurant manager was less than friendly to my group on the rehearsal day and wedding day. Jean, who we were working with since December, was on vacation that weekend, and if she was there I am almost positive these mishaps would not have happened. Jean is on top of all the little details at boatwerks (and most definitely allowed a vacation!). Despite the minor mishaps my day was perfect and I would recommend going to this venue. It is a little pricey and you do get charged for taste testing, moving chairs fees, dessert cutting fees (even if you have donuts that don’t requiring cutting) and other random fees, but the location is worth it. We got married last Friday August 21st and when we first decided to do our reception there we could have it inside within a week of signing the contract there was an order limiting to ten people inside. Boatwerks did the accommodating and placed a tent on their patio making it so we could still have our reception with the planned amount of people. Because we were so late to book we were not able to taste test before hand but everything was delicious. We had the pesto chicken and steak and guests were very pleased with the meal. From the moment we toured Boatwerks, we knew that it would be the perfect location for our wedding reception. The location right on Lake Mac and the ability to transform the ballroom into an indoor-outdoor venue was perfect for our celebration, because we always wanted the feel of an outdoor reception, but our moms (smartly) warned us that a worrier like me would be overly stressed out by the weather. We had a Friday afternoon wedding in 95 degree weather, so all of our guests were very grateful that we were able to have A/C blasting during our dinner. Once the sun went down, we moved back outside for an UNBEATABLE dance floor under the stars and twinkle lights. The appetizers and dinner were delicious and the bar was very well prepared for our thirsty guests ;)I would also like to shout out Jean Ellis, who worked with us to organize everything that had to do with this venue. Although she was behind the scenes on the wedding day, she was there every step of the way from our initial tour to our final walk-through. Her staff kept our evening moving flawlessly, they are true professionals! This venue (with food and drink costs) might be more expensive than some other options in the area, but it was absolutely the perfect location for our wedding reception. We received so many compliments on how beautiful and unique the location was, so I would say that the higher cost wass more than worth it :) Final note: because it's so awesome, it books up far in advance, but our Friday night wedding was AWESOME and our guests loved our Saturday BBQ at Holland State Park Beach! It did end up raining the whole day, but Boatwerks was flexible in setting up the ceremony inside and tearing down quickly afterwards. The servers were very helpful and personable, and Jean was great to work with. With all of that being said, we were surprised that everyone had to get IDd (including the wedding party) and put wrist bands on. The people who were clearly over 21 who forgot their ID could not drink. They also did not allow us to bring drinks on the dance floor, which made dancing very discouraging for our guests. The groom and I even got kicked off the dance floor a few times which was pretty upsetting. The champagne toast was forgotten about until the mom of the bride mentioned it to the servers, which they then hurried to get it out on the floor. At the beginning of the night a man.. who did not introduce himself to me (unprofessional) was asking how many tables we needed, when I had already set everything up on the website and seating chart. Overall, it was a fantastic day. There were just a few things that I would have liked to know about beforehand so we could inform our guests or make other decisions. Reviewed on 23-10-2017
Danielle Dollendorf(bride)2 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 29-07-2017 Let me first start by saying the setting is gorgeous! The people however were horrific to work with. They made everything so incredibly difficult that it made planning almost miserable. They wanted to charge us $900 for string lights outdoors that are up all summer. We even asked a manager if they would be up for our July wedding and he said they would be with no charge, but the event planner there still tried charging us. We agreed that we were not paying that much for lights and to take them down but come out wedding date they were still up. My family owns a pizza place and they refused to let us bring in our own pizza, stating that it was theirs or nothing. At the wedding they refused to serve some guests that were of age, because they happened to have a vertical license. They didn’t even look at the date. They questioned my brother about drinking too much his first time up at the bar and told him that what he ordered this time wasn’t what he ordered last time. Not only that but one manager pulled a guest into a closet and starting yelling at them for something she didn’t even do! Where is that okay anywhere?! I received many compliments on the venue choice, and having my wedding overlooking the lake was just perfect!Jean, the wedding coordinator was very helpful- which was important for me because I planned the entire wedding myself. Being able to ask her for help and trust her input ended up being crucial to the success of my event! One thing I will mention though- don't let the 2 dollar sign price rating fool you. Boatwerks was expensive. It was more expensive than I initially planned. While I did have more guests come than I anticipated (which increased the overall cost of food), there were also some costs I didn't anticipate. One of which was the fee for hanging the lights. Boatwerks charged us $700 to hang lights in the courtyard (which were already up) and we didn't get to use them because it rained the night of my wedding). Our food was fantastic but there were some areas that could have been better in the eyes of my parents who paid for the day.We were promised several details that were not followed through on.-We were told the event room would be ready for us at 11am, and by 12:30pm our florists, baker, and mistress of ceremonies were setting up the room on their own.-We were promised to have a slip for our boat for a grand exit and my mom was shooing people off on the day of for space-We were promised that NO boats would be allowed in the backdrop of our ceremony on the patio and moments before the ceremony, a 150' yacht showed up and boatwerks made no attempt to send them away.-We were promised grey goose vodka with our premium beverage package and on the day of, they were using ketel one.-Our appetizers were placed inside and they refused to open the large doors until the temperatures cooled and the sun set, our guests (215) had to file through one small door to get inside.-We were very specific in wanting to avoid lines at the bar and were promised that there would not be based on the number of bartenders we hired. Throughout the evening the bartenders were not present at the bar and the ones who were could not even open a bottle of wine. They also carded (and hand stamped) my 86 & 87 year old grandparents which seemed sillyOverall, it was a lack of organization and communication that led to many of these details being missed. As a bride and groom, we were unaware of these issues the day of, but my parents felt that the money they spent should have been honored with better service and follow through.
