Boyne Mountain Resort Reviews

We stayed at Boyne Mountain, along with many of our guests, for our wedding weekend in August 2023. We were impressed start to finish! We felt like royalty when we got glasses of champagne at check-in. Our room was very comfortable - jacuzzi tub, view of the mountain, and fluffy robes for us to wear! Spa day for the bridal party was a big success - the spa staff was so accommodating to our last minute schedule adjustments, and it was the most quality pedicure I’ve ever had! Front desk staff was very helpful in ensuring that our welcome bags ended up with our guests. We had delicious meals at Everett’s, and had a great time at the Snowflake Lounge too! We will be back Reviewed on 24-08-2023
Erica Pegley(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 01-08-2020 We had our wedding reception this summer out by Deer Lake. I can't say enough about the staff at Boyne and how easy they made our wedding experience. Our wedding coordinator Andrea was on top of things and very easy to communicate with. I usually don't expect much from wedding food but the food was amazing and we received many compliments from guests on how great it was. Overall our experience with them was 5 stars! Rebecca J(parent)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 02-08-2019 We were very pleased with the communication we received from Boyne and the sales staff! We booked at several hotels to offer guests options and Jaclyn and the Boyne staff were the only ones that were helpful. In fact, they were in touch to get details for our wedding so the front desk could assist all guests staying with any wedding and give them the right information. I was so glad to have Boyne staying in touch and helping us thru our big day. Unfortunately, I suspect the other hotel didn't actually block any rooms for our party and then never returned a call. During that stressful several weeks, Boyne kept us up to date on who booked and what was available outside our block so we could help our friends and family find lodging. Boyne knows weddings and they really were organized in dealing with our guests. Reviewed on 31-10-2019

Both were so helpful in getting us started and planning out all the details of the night. We were able to have our dinner inside the Stein Erikson’s restaurant followed by dancing outside on the patio. It was amazing. We worked with Jaclyn in the reservation department at Boyne to set aside a block of rooms for our guests They were so easy to work with and answered all my questions each time I called. Our guests were pleased with the accommodations - rooms were spacious and clean. Everyone who works there was friendly and helpful. There are so many fun things to do at the resort - it is very family friendly. Perfect place to visit for any reason, any season. We also had a meet and greet the night before the wedding, held at the Alpine Room in the Clocktower building. A great space with excellent food from the Trophy Room. Andrea ensured every detail from Boyne's end was spot-on from the months leading up to and including the wedding day. We had our reception 6-8-19 under a tent overlooking the beach house and deer lake and it was the most perfect venue! Working with Boyne and Andrea was such a great experience. They were knowledgeable, experienced, and responded quickly to our many many questions and concerns. They day of went so smoothly and if anything went wrong I had no clue. The food was also amazing, our guests are still commenting to us about how it was some of the best food they’ve ever had at a wedding. I had some very specific requests about food service and table set ups and they accommodated all my requests without issue. It was also very nice to have guests staying on site and the free shuttle from Deer Lake back to the lodge was perfect at the end of the night. Overall, Boyne made the process easy for us - especially considering we were planning from a far. Highly recommend using Boyne Mountain as a wedding venue! Reviewed on 09-07-2019
Cheryl Kaley(parent)1 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 22-09-2018 Although surrounded by beautiful nature and activities for guests, this is a very dishonest company. Expect stress with booking rooms and the room block, dirty rooms (found actual poop on a blanket in a cabin, which also had holes in it), welcome bags not delivered after already paid, staff stealing from you (we caught housekeeping looking into the bride's bag while she was getting her hair done, as well as decorations taken after wedding), young staff who do not know what they are doing to be in charge, many mistakes made, overcharged, points not given, and corners cut. Too many examples to name, one was lavender was to be in each guest napkin but never happened, the bride was very disappointed and said she would've chosen a different napkin fold if they were going to decide to just not do it. The Bridal King Suite was supposed to be taken off the price of the room they did book; however, the price taken off was only a quarter of the cost of an actual King Suite, the couple said if they had known this ahead of time they would have stayed in the suite and given their actual room to a guest to stay. The bride told the coordinator they wanted to stay during the week to horseback ride/other activities they offered, but she failed to mention that all activities are unavailable and closed during the week. The bride took time off and paid for extra days, and said had she known, she would've simply gone the following weekend for the activities, but instead felt cheated since she mentioned it several times. Overall the resort portrays itself as high-end, but they are very cheap and poorly run. Despite the beautiful place it is, knowing what we know now, we definitely would have gone elsewhere. Reviewed on 19-03-2019
Amanda Meerman(bride)1 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 20-09-2018 There were so many things that went wrong. We were quite disappointed overall. Feel free to respond for more information, as I want to keep this brief, but basically, it was: lack of professionalism, stolen items, uncleanliness, things not completed, cold food, questions not answered, and dishonesty. If you did book this already, expect extra fees/charges and factor it into your budget. I would also recommend NOT doing the bag delivery for guest rooms- $3/bag delivery fee and there were rooms they missed, and they didn't deliver them until the wedding day after everyone had already been there a day. Missed the point and made us look bad considering guests were talking about them-some received, others not (and yes we did double check to make sure it was not our own error). I would also bring in your own MUA and hairstylist who you know is good. My makeup was the worst it has ever been and made me late to the wedding because it had to be completely redone. After working with several makeup artists in the past I trusted a high-end resort and spa would have proper staff, but I was shocked at the lack of knowledge, listening to the client, and overall skill. At the end of the day, we still got married, it was amazing and an absolutely beautiful sunny day. Obviously, the beautiful area is what they bank on to book you, but it was nice to have such an amazing sliver of Michigan to get married and somewhere everyone could stay together and have fun things to do over the weekend; our guests had a great time. Any questions lmk! ;-)*Update I lowered my rating because I saw in another review that welcome bags were stolen, as well as others also had huge stress with booking rooms and a room block that frustrated and confused guests. Ashley Eliasz(bride)1 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 13-10-2018 If I could give this hotel zero stars, they would absolutely get it. If you’re a bride, you absolutely do not want this hotel to have anything to do with your wedding (especially if you’re having your guests stay here). We booked this hotel after they assured us they’ve worked with our venue before and that they’ve had many guests stay there. We had nothing but problems with our guests booking rooms. As far as the “hotel block” goes, they only release 10 rooms at a time. We were told that once the block was 90% full, they would release more rooms. That’s not the case. They told many guests of ours the block was full. I had to call to talk to them and was told I would have to pick out 10 other rooms for them to release. We did this same song and dance multiple times and let me tell you, if wedding planning isn’t stressful enough, receiving texts/calls from your guests saying the hotel is full just adds the stress on. Once our second block filled up, we had to tell all of our guests that the 20 room block we were allotted was it and all of our guests had to book rooms outside of the block for higher costs. We had a 250 person wedding and we were told “if you had your wedding at this venue we could hold more rooms for you” after they knew from the beginning where our wedding was and reassured us they’ve worked with our venue before. Let me repeat that: a 20 room block for 250 people. Do the math. If that’s not bad enough, our guests would call to book a room and the front desk would just say “that block is full” and not let guests know that there were other rooms available to book. I know this because I actually called myself to see what they would say and when I asked them why they weren’t offering other rooms to our guests they couldn’t provide a straight answer. Terrible customer service at the front desk, absolutely terrible. Check in time is incredibly inconvenient, it’s not until 5pm. I was told by all of my guests that had rooms in the Clocktower that the rooms were absolutely disgusting, dirty, and full of mold. All of my guests that stayed there requested room changes immediately to stay in a different part of the resort. I cannot stress this enough, if you’re getting married, stay far far away from this hotel, unless you like having extra stress during wedding planning. Reviewed on 14-11-2018
Sherry Gittleman(parent)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 30-06-2018 Our daughter’s wedding was at Castle Farms in Charlevoix in June 2018 and we wanted our guests to have the amenities that a resort could offer as we had planned this as a destination weekend wedding event. At least 80% of our guests, including a majority of the wedding party, chose to stay at the resort. We could not have been happier with our decision to choose Boyne Mountain Resort. We had been to the resort numerous times but only during the winter season for skiing, and it was not until we began planning this event did we realize the true beauty and enormity of all the resort has to offer beyond ski season. Jaclyn, in group sales, handled our room blocks and was so accommodating and helpful when it came to determining our accommodation needs, always offering sound advice and suggestions. She was always quick to respond to my questions throughout the year-plus planning for the event. We also were provided an event coordinator who was also a pleasure to work with from beginning to end and provided much assistance in coordinating travel to and from the resort to the Castle and making sure all needs were met from signage, delivering of our welcome bags to our guests, and assistance in planning our send off brunch for all our guests which we hosted at Boyne also. Christina Therrian(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 04-10-2018 Jaclyn was absolutely wonderful to deal with! She always got back to me quickly and efficiently, if I were reviewing her only, 5 out of 5 stars! The resort as a whole, I’m NOT terribly thrilled with. They have a $500 deposit for you to hold rooms and claim they can charge you for any room that is held and not booked by your wedding date. Also, they charge $3 per “welcome bag” to be delivered to your guests rooms. We had 17 that were supposed to be delivered and we know of for sure 3 guests that didn’t get one! But we didn’t go around asking the rest of our guests because we shouldn’t have to! You’re charging us $3 per bag, we should trust that it’s going to be there! My mom called to complain and they said they would refund us the $9 for those 3 guests! Well... what about the cost of the bag that disappeared or went to one of your other guests?! How about a refund for the entire cost?! When I emailed Jaclyn about it, she told me she would forward my email to the people that can help me and I never heard a word!! Not great customer service, nor worth the $3!! I would never pay that again! Oh, and when they sent me my deposit back it showed up at my parents house?! Not sure how they got my parents address when on all of my emails and my contract have my address on it! I’m glad my parents opened up the envelope instead of just trashing $500!!Update: shortly after I posted this review, Jaclyn contacted me to make things right. I have never met someone who cares more about her customers! Boyne refunded me for the $3 delivery fee and the cost of the bags that were misplaced! Jaclyn warned me that the check would take a few weeks to get to me, so in the mean time, I received an “apology” gift bag from Boyne. I understand that mistakes happen, but I am very pleased with the way everything was handled. Thank you to Jaclyn and Boyne for easing my frustrations! Your effort is very much appreciated! What I never expected was to be assigned to a wedding planner, as part of our contract. Jackie Wingate was INCREDIBLE, assisting us from the start, with every decision to be made. Wedding planning can be stressful, and Jackie' s support and knowledge was comforting and reliable, making the entire process enjoyable! Most of our guests stayed in the beautiful Mountain Cabins, Disciples Ridge condos and Mountain Grand Lodge and took advantage of the fun amenities available, as in the pools and Deer Lake beach. We also held the rehearsal dinner at Boyne Mountain, and afterwards, a casual Meet And Greet with our guests at the Trophy Room the night before the wedding. The wedding, the cocktail/appetizer hour and reception was amazing and beautiful! The food was incredibly delicious and the reception staff was over the top friendly and accommodating to every need. Again, Jackie Wingate, our wedding planner, was there to orchestrate every part of the day, and into the night. The gorgeous wedding flowers were supplied by Upsy Daisy. Sweet Seats did an amazing job decorating the wedding venue and draping the Civic Center ceilings and added beautiful chandeliers, to create a stunning reception hall. The delicious wedding cake was baked by Northern Delights, and the DJ, Roger Coats, was fabulous, keeping our guests on the dance floor until midnight. The photographer, Andrea Sutton Bogard, of Northern Art Photography, caught every magical moment of the day. I'd highly recommend Boyne Mountain Resort for weddings. Reviewed on 20-09-2017
Phillip Bagwell(groom)1 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 09-11-2017 Do not stay here. I and my new wife were going to stay here for our honeymoon. It seemed like a nice place surrounded by breweries, wineries and restaurants in the cities. We checked in and asked the front desk employee about services offered at Boyne and he didn’t have a lot of knowledge about his place of work. We went to our building “Boynehof” to go to our room. It’s the only building that is pet friendly and the reason that is because the building is as old as the mountain it’s self and poorly kept up with. Walking through the main doors the building had that moth ball retirement home smell. Had to go up a flight of oddly narrow stairs with my dogs “not very pet friendly so far”. The key for the room was an over sized gold key; seemed like it came out of a western movie. Walked in the room to see a room that makes a motel 6 look like a spacious paradise. The two beds, night stand and small two person table take up all the space. The bathroom is very claustrophobic feeling. The toilet is shoved into a very tight space so good luck using it if you’re a little on the big side. When we used the shower it sounds like a motor boat and you can hear the pipes shacking through the wall. My wife was furious with the size of the room but I tried to make the best of it “my mistake”. The next day we went to the main building for breakfast since it was on our room package. The breakfast buffet is shit. Either over cooked or cold and asking $25 per person I would expect more from a resort. We went into town and when we came back they where ripping the room off our building… WTF. We opened the door to our room were my little pugs were shacking and having panic attacks. The amount of noise from the construction was insanely loud. My wife called the front desk and was told that they do not know anything about the construction or how long it will last. The front desk said there was nothing they could do for us either moving rooms or anything else. I then called front desk myself and had it out with the women running the desk. She only offered a small refund after I demanded it, because I would be checking out “since yet again I was told they could not give us another room”. Told her I wanted to talk to the manager and was told she went home for the day.. It was only 1pm.. You’re running a resort that has people staying 24/7 and she check out early. Being the only supervisor they seem to have, I would say that’s not a good idea. I told them to have her call me as soon as she came in. The next day I received a call from Christy Peck. She told me that they would not fully reimburse me for my trip. She gave me a few more dollars back but nothing to make up ruining our honeymoon. I asked to talk to her boss and she told me he was on vacation “of course he is”. I told her I want to speak with him when he’s in “yet to hear back from him”. Do not go here because at the end of the day they don’t care. Reviewed on 09-09-2016
Anonymous (bride)1 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 27-08-2016 Keep looking. This place is horrible. Our family bought us a week here for our honeymoon. We arrived to a stinky room and much smaller than we anticipated based on the price they paid. Overall the place was rundown. We stayed in the Boynehof part which is supposed to be dog friendly. I don't think this place was dog friendly, it wasn't even people friendly. Almost every person we came into contact with was rude and uninformed. Most questions were answered with I don't know or I don't think so. The food was mostly bad. The omelettes and waffles were the only thing I could actually finish. The shower sounded like a motor boat and the air conditioning worked part time. Half way through the trip they started ripping off our roof which made our dogs go crazy and have panic attacks. We called the front desk and they refused to move us. So we left. Thankfully, the remaining days were credited; however, they refused to credit anything else even though they ruined our honeymoon. There are so many other places to stay. Reviewed on 31-08-2016
