Owned and operated by Ellen Goldberg in Middleburg, VA, Briar Patch Bed & Breakfast offers couples a warm and historic location for hosting both intimate and large-scale weddings. Located on 47 acres with mountain views about an hour outside Washington DC, Ellen’s inn is near wineries & craft breweries, parks, and horse farms. Boasting a colonial feel, Ellen’s bed & breakfast lets couples retreat into a storybook for their special day.
Making a career change, Ellen purchased a former dairy farm and transformed it into an inviting b&b and venue location. Over 15 years later she is still welcoming guests and hosting events on this historic farm built around 1805. The location includes a main house with eight bedrooms, a one-bedroom cottage, and a modern 3-bedroom "chicken coop" for hosting a total of about 25 overnight guests. The event space is large enough for up to 200 guests, but provides a quaint atmosphere.
Briar Patch, located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains with idyllic wood fences and neighing horses as neighbors, grants couples a refuge. To host nuptial celebrations, the inn has 3 outdoor locations with great views for your ceremony and the Fox Den building for up to 200 guests, providing a relaxed and open space with colonial-style embellishments for a storied feel. The vast lawns dotted with old trees paint a picture of provincial romance, instilling the location with rustic charm.
In addition to hosting events, Briar Patch provides accommodations, serving as a getaway for the entire wedding. They offer event coordination services and staff to alleviate some wedding-related stress. To complete the evening, Ellen offers catering, flower, and music packages through partnered vendors, doing the research for couples beforehand. A bonus: her inn is available during certain holidays for those planning an extra special wedding.
My wife and I had such a wonderful time getting married here back in October 2023! Dan was so welcoming and friendly to all of our guests and ensured that we were taken care of on all fronts. The venue was just what we were looking for - a rustic, country-style home with immaculate views of the mountains and surrounding area. The breakfasts we had in the morning were incredibly nostalgic of the breakfasts I had growing up in the countryside of central Virginia. If you’re looking for a country-style venue in the heart of Virginia’s countryside, Briar Patch is the place for you! Reviewed on 26-11-2023

Dan and Ellen were a dream to work with! They say “your wedding, your way” and they really mean it. They gave us all the information we needed in advance, and gave clear guidelines of when to have things completed and it helped us keep our stress levels way lower. Everything was set up how we asked and they even threw in an extra night for me and my bridesmaids to stay in the cottage before the wedding. We loved everything about our experience with The Briar Patch and can’t recommend it enough as a wedding venue! Reviewed on 16-12-2023

I don’t have adequate words to describe how truly disappointing our experience at Briar Patch was. Luckily, we had other amazing vendors who made our wedding amazing & compensated for the extremely poor quality of the venue we paid for. The reception space is fine but otherwise all photos you see online are dated & inaccurate. For starters, the place is wildly unclean and not kept up with whatsoever. The owners are rude & snarky when you ask for anything at all. We asked that handprints be cleaned off of dirty windows in the ceremony space & was then called OCD by the owner (see emails below for some horrifying responses from the owners). We quickly realized that the windows were the least of our problems when we went through or guestrooms the week of the wedding, and found that there was a stink bug infestation. There were so many stink bugs that when my little sister tried to use the iron in a closet, they crawled out of the iron. Then, another wedding party guest opened up a towel to shower, and five stink bugs, fell out and crawled on her legs. In the hill house, every single drawer and cabinet had mouse poop in it. There was a mouse nest in the kitchen cabinet. My mom and I cleaned mice poop out of that spot of the venue for 2 hours. Every room, bathroom, and reception space on the property is extremely filthy. When I confronted the owner about the stink bug, infestation and asked for help to clean them up, he bluntly said “it’s called a vacuum.” There was zero cleaning done prior to our arrival with our guests, so my mother & I spent 3 days leading up to the wedding scrubbing the walls of the reception hall, vacuuming up 400+ stink bugs, spraying a stink bug deterrent on the windows of the guest houses, and replacing shower curtains that were covered in pink mold. These are things the owners should have taken care of themselves. Particularly the stink bug infestation — to reiterate how bad this problem was, we had to clean behind every picture frame hung on the walls of the main house because there were 20+ bugs behind each one. Dan, married to owner Ellen, was on site all weekend and couldn’t be bothered to clean up the rotten food that he left in the kitchen sink. This is a communal space for wedding party to get ready and eat breakfasts together, but nobody wanted to be in the space because there were bugs flying around the dirty sink and the smell was horrendous. Dan’s desk is absolutely filthy and disheveled, conveniently it’s located right where guests walk in through to get to their rooms. This should’ve been our first red flag of just how messy and gross this place would be. Dan also showed up in our reception after being rude to my mother and other wedding party members all weekend, and makes himself a plate. It’s convenient that he can come eat free food off us after he did NOTHING to prepare his disgusting venue for the weekend and treated his customers horribly (again, see emails below). You will be treated poorly & ridiculed for asking for basic cleanliness if you book here. Run away like your hair’s on fire. I will not be recommending this spot to anyone and in fact plan on warning everyone we know with upcoming weddings to stay far away from Briar Patch. Aside from the scenic views, this place is a joke of a venue and is a biohazard that should be closed down asap. Lastly, I hope Dan & Ellen take care of the horses that are dilapidated and have burs stuck all over them. Reviewed on 22-10-2023

We wanted somewhere we could stay on the property that would also provide beautiful scenery for pictures, and we couldn’t have asked for anything better. The owners Dan and Ellen were so easy to work with and were always quick to respond to emails. While Dan and Ellen were out of town the weekend of our wedding, Dan’s brother, Doron, stepped in and was absolutely wonderful. He made us a delicious breakfast both Saturday and Sunday, always offered to help with setup and takedown, and was all around a very genuine and sweet guy. His adorable dog, Brownie, followed him everywhere and even stopped by the reception and totally stole the show! They have been in this business a long time and really know their stuff. We opted to rent out the entire property for the whole weekend, which was an excellent choice for us. This allowed us to have all of our friends onsite the whole weekend, which was so fun. Since it was summer, we took full advantage of the pool for the afterparty. Dan makes a homemade breakfast each morning for folks staying onsite, which is delicious! Our outdoor ceremony spot under the arch was beautiful and the reception area was perfect for our needs. Dan and Ellen were so easy to work with throughout the whole process and it was so fun getting to know them. They even brought our family fresh grown tomatoes from their garden during our dinner! Briar Patch is a secluded venue, with lots of space but still has the perks of being close to the cute little town of Middleburg and Dulles airport for anyone traveling long distances. We were able to arrive mid day Thursday and just hangout, get everything ready until Sunday late afternoon. Santiago was amazing - he helped set everything up and always had a smile on his face, willing to lift, carry, adjust anything we wanted. The farm houses are rustic for sure, which I think most people found to be a positive feature (but tall people watch your heads in the main house). There are great spots for the ceremony, the main hall is fantastic, there is a pool (though it was a little too cold for us at the time), hot tub, and fire pits everywhere.Definitely highly recommend Reviewed on 25-05-2022

We toured many venues prior to booking with Briar Patch, but decided to book with Briar Patch due to its convenient location (close to Dulles Airport, hotels that offered shuttles for guests to and from the Dulles Airport as well as one complimentary shuttle to the venue), on-site lodging, ability to book the venue for the entire weekend, and beautiful indoor and outdoor event space. Having the venue available the entire weekend was extremely convenient and a major selling point for us so that we could have our immediate family on-site together. We had a tree planting ceremony and Ellen and Dan kindly let us plant a tree on their site. We booked a day-of coordinator who previously worked at Briar Patch who was critical to pulling all of the details together and making our wedding weekends run smoothly. They took a lot of the stress off us leading up to the big day simply for their diligence! The venue itself has multiple options for locations, depending on your style. The entire site is beautiful with gorgeous backdrops of Virginia countryside. The fact it is a bed & breakfast is an added bonus. As a military family, with friends and relatives dispersed throughout the US, being able to coordinate close friends and family staying ON SITE was another tremendous relief for us and made choosing Briar Patch that much easier. There is plenty of parking for guests that would need to travel, so it was helpful knowing that we didn't need to focus on only a small group that could stay at the B&B.The one piece of advice I will pass on to any future prospective couples is to make sure you coordinate with the winery next door! We had Darius Rucker's \"Wagon Wheel\" start blaring in the middle of a prayer and everyone got a good laugh out of the situation. Derek Smith(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 22-05-2021 Let me start off by saying that the venue has its quirks. It is an old building, and during the pandemic it is clear that the business was hit hard in their ability to staff people to help with upkeep. I say all that just to let you know what to expect. HOWEVER, I could not imagine going with a different venue. Dan is the most wonderful host, and makes the process so easy for his wedding couples. While not necessarily cheap, you're able to book the entire venue for the entire weekend for what it costs at some venues for a 8 hour block of time. Honestly, being able to set things up the day before the wedding took so much stress off of the actual day. I can't imagine the stress levels we would have felt had we had to decorate everything day of. You as the guests are responsible for setting up/tearing down the ceremony site, which we were able to set up the day before. (I recommend Smokin Willys as a caterer as they were able to do the tear down for us included in their price). It is a more rustic feeling venue, and there are a bit more things to do on your own, but it is 100% worth it. We could not have imagined a more perfect day, and Dan and Ellen were a huge part of that! They aren't trying to nickel and dime you, they are open and honest with what they can do to help, and will work tirelessly to make sure your wedding goes off as planned. They are a small team, but they care so deeply about their couples. At the very least tour their facilities and see what they have to offer. You won't regret holding your wedding with them (even if your parents are a bit skeptical of the property). Reviewed on 10-06-2021

The setting is nice, the hottub was fantastic, the owner's husband is a great cook and personable. The cat is not people friendly. The impacts of the pandemic are visible. We arrived just after 5 for a post-4pm check-in. After waiting for about 10 minutes, calling 4 numbers and finally finding someone we were told that the cottage wasn't ready & he needed to finish the wedding tour first. We didn't get into the cottage until after 6 where the bed was not finished being made, the floors were sticky, dirty dishes were in the sink, the bathroom faucet had hair on it, bobby pins were on the side tables,...and a few other less than great items. I think the owners need to have a talk about how much the husband can do and is willing to do for turnover after an event. We found out at breakfast the next morning that Ellen, the owner, had gone to Baltimore after a 90 person event leaving him alone to do clean up, turn over, & 3 wedding tours...clearly too much for him. When we left 2 days later the trash from the wedding was still on the lawn & the sewage alarm was still chirping. Ellen probably should have stayed until Monday to help with turn over OR they should have told us no to a Sunday check-in. Like I said to begin with the husband is a good cook and breakfasts were great, the bed in the cottage was comfortable, and it was a nice quiet reset just not recommended at this time as pandemic adjustments continue. Madalena A(bride)3 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 09-11-2019 The Briar Patch is indeed a quaint space to host a humble wedding and management was eager to accommodate us in the beginning. Pros for this venue are the flexibility to bring in outside vendors and/or do a complete DIY wedding (be prepared to remove all your trash OFF the property or hire someone else to do it), have your close friends and family stay on the property with you, pets welcome and your event can serve 20 to 200 people easily. The cons we encountered included one of our guests being over charged for the wrong room and being offered a room that was not available causing unnecessary confusion, my guests staying on the property were disappointed in the lack of care when concerns were lifted to management around a stink bug invasion in the main house and a broken TV in another, and the most concerning was the treatment we received after the wedding was finished when we learned our security deposit would not be refunded due to claims management could not corroborate with receipts. If you are a past or future bride that was not offered a complimentary one year anniversary stay, it's because management dubbed you a \"PITA or pain in the a**\" which was what we were told directly from the owner. You are welcome to enjoy our invitation to stay for your anniversary as we will not be returning to the Briar Patch for their hospitality. Reviewed on 30-12-2019
Danny Solow(groom)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 12-10-2019 Our wedding was this past October, and my wife and I feel so lucky to have been able to share that day at Briar Patch Bed and Breakfast. During our wedding venue search, we prioritized finding a location that would be able to take advantage of the beautiful Virginia countryside, while also having sufficient indoor space in case of bad weather. When we toured Briar Patch, so many of our criteria were satisfied and more. We loved the ability to rent out the bed and breakfast for the weekend, and take the time to share the time and space with our closest friends and family without feeling rushed. The two main ceremony locations are both fantastic, but we chose to use the upper hill area as it is a little more secluded and further away from the road. We thankfully ended up being able to have the ceremony outdoors, but Briar Patch’s indoor backup is a beautiful hall that is spacious, well-lit, and also serves as the main dinner area. Dan, the owner who gave us a tour of the space several times, was very helpful and has an intimate knowledge of how different couples have taken advantage of everything Briar Patch has to offer. One of the great things about Briar Patch is that you have flexibility to use the space however you want, but this can also be daunting if you do not have a clear vision for how you want things to go. Do you want to have outdoor lawn games? Do you want to have your rehearsal dinner on-site? Welcome drinks? These are all options (and ones we chose and are very happy with), but be prepared to handle the extra logistics yourself. If you want a minimal-option wedding-factory style affair, Briar Patch probably isn’t the choice for you. Briar Patch employees will help with many of the day-of logistics, but I would recommend working with a day-of coordinator to help with a medium-sized wedding as you will likely have multiple vendors, and the space can be quite spread out.Last but not least, the breakfast provided by the bed and breakfast staff was delicious. It is a pleasant treat to wake up on your wedding day and the day after to be greeted with fresh coffee and quiche. Reviewed on 14-11-2019

This was because Dan and Ellen made us feel part of the Briar Patch family immediately upon our tour of the venue, instead of making us feel like we were just another wedding on the calendar. The venue itself it amazing. We wanted an outdoor ceremony, but also needed an indoor option in case of rain or extreme heat. Both indoor and outdoor options are beautiful. Photo opportunities abound. We were lucky and got to have our ceremony outdoors before the rain came in. As soon as it did, we were all safe inside in their beautiful event space enjoying the reception in the AC.The B&B allowed us to have a wedding weekend instead of just a wedding day. This was was so important for us as my husband's family was coming in from out of town. We needed a home base, and the Briar Patch became that. We hosted our rehearsal dinner on Friday out on the pool deck, got ready in the cottage on property in the morning of the Saturday wedding, and were able to hang out with our guests well into the night of the wedding. The morning after the wedding on Sunday, we were able to enjoy the B&B's breakfast with our family and wedding party who stayed at the inn. You have the flexibility to start the wedding festivities when you want and don't have to fit it all in in the 5-6 hours that other wedding venues give you. You can also choose your own vendors, though they have a recommended list if you need somewhere to start. And, if you do a more DIY approach, you are on property the day before and after so you can set up decorations, food, etc. all in time. Dan and Ellen were extremely responsive through all the planning, quick to get back to me on each email and call. Andrea Maddox(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 11-03-2018 I spent 3 months searching and visiting very venue in northern Virginia. Briar patch was without a doubt, the best for what I was looking for. This venue was out of my dreams! As a bride that was paying for my entire wedding, I was worried that my lower budget would put a damper on my venue. But this was not the case! I had 200 guest plus children. The tables and beautiful chairs that they provide we’re a huge weight off my shoulders. My photographer never ran out of places to take unique photos, the landscape is everything you would want in the dreamy hills of horse country, so it was perfect for my outdoor ceremony. The owner will also allow you to visit, explore and walk through the venue at almost all hours. Which was huge for my scattered head during the planning process! The bed and breakfast atmosphere was very comfortable for our wedding party. Just like being at home! We were able to get ready in a cottage which had plenty of room for my 8 girls (plus moms and friends) The assistants here were the perfect mix of helpful, present but not controlling or overbearing. So friendly and accommodating. I was a bride that needed to be creative, very budget friendly, allow room for those DIY Pinterest ideas to flow but also wanted the foundation of the venue to be beautiful. Andrea Ravelo(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 21-10-2017 I used Briar Patch for my October 21, 2017 wedding. Looking at wedding venues can be a discouraging task. Many places have really strict rules such as where you could have the wedding, times you’re allowed to use it, and even which vendors you could use. It was daunting trying to juggle which restrictions or accommodations you were or were not okay with. From the moment I arrived at Briar Patch and met the staff, I was blown away by how friendly and accommodating they were to my needs. The owner Ellen is 100% welcoming to her brides and supporting their dream weddings. They have a fantastic wedding package that includes not only housing in their main house but also the venue rental property itself for 3 days, 2 nights. While the sticker price may shock you at first, you balance it out with the fact that you can house much of your bridal party (or other guests), have a ample time to set-up/breakdown decorations, full use of their facilities such as extensive grounds, pool, and hot-tub, and fully furnished house and fully stocked kitchen. The staff is incredibly sweet and attentive, and you are not nitpicked or charged for every add on or request you want. This alone…the feeling of being cared for and treated fairly was one of the main reasons I went with Briar Patch. I felt like their biggest joy was in helping me have a spectacular wedding day and not just another tick on their checklist. The venue space is large, airy, and light. It has a very homey and warm feeling when done up, so it feels very intimate and cozy (yet trust me plenty of space for guests, dance floor, and decorations). I highly recommend this venue if you want a warm and loving reception, with a highly attentive staff, and a beautiful nature filled backdrop. Also, as a side note, I highly recommend hiring their in-house coordinating service. I used them and my day went off without a hitch with Ali as my day-of coordinator! Reviewed on 29-10-2017

The venue was PERFECT for all of our guests and activities throughout the weekend.Being able to stay on property for the weekend, as well as have family stay with us, was such a pleasant experience. The Chicken Coop also allowed extended family to stay near by, allowing us to connect with family for a longer period of time. The property itself is gorgeous - barns, horses, hilltops, greenery, etc. Every spot is picture perfect. The Fox Den worked out great for the reception - comfortably fit all of our guests for both a dinner and for dancing. Plus, the patio off of the Den was great for guests to catch some fresh air, mingle and enjoy making s'mores. We had the ceremony on a hilltop over looking some hills in the background. Walking up there with it fully decorated and full of guests continues to bring tears to my eyes. It was just stunning. A lot of Briar Patch's preferred vendors have done several events there and know how to make sure everything flows smoothly. The Briar Patch team had great suggestions for overflow hotels, transportation, catering, floral, wedding planning and cake vendors. Not only was the Briar Batch team accommodating and professional, they made my family feel at home for the weekend. Pre-wedding, I was able to drop in and show the venue to my mom when she came to town, with short notice. We had the rehearsal ceremony and dinner on Friday, wedding on Saturday, and then brunch on Sunday. We had all the rooms at the B&B booked for bridal party and family. I personally found it less stressful to know that once we arrived Friday night I didn't have to travel anywhere else during the wedding. Our wedding was on Oct 29th, and we completely lucked out with the weather. There were tons of scenic shots for the photographers to work with; hill sides, old barns, fencing, and the main house itself. I worked mostly with Henriette and she was WONDERFUL! She will give you amazing tips & tricks on how to survive your wedding. It seems like every other weekend prior to the wedding we had friends & family that wanted to see the estate, and Henriette was always accommodating. Sarah Gilberg(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 06-08-2016 I could not recommend this venue more! It is a beautiful spot, with helpful and professional staff, and it met all of our needs. Top reasons we chose Briar Patch: could accommodate up to 200 guests; exclusive use of the property from Friday afternoon to Sunday noon; excellent rain plan; flexibility in vendor choice.Briar Patch is very up front about all costs. An important budgeting note: they require you to book all 12 rooms of the B&B along with the site fee. We decided it was worth the extra expense to extend our (parents’) generosity to our wedding party. It worked out perfectly: groom and I shared the cottage, our parents and brothers took the 3 rooms in the “Chicken Coop”, and our remaining bridesmaids and groomsmen fit in the 8 rooms of the guesthouse.Ellen recommended we use Henriette Buell of Lemon Thyme Events for month-of and day-of coordination services. We took Ellen’s advice and are so glad we did! (See our review on her vendor page).I cannot stress how wonderful the exclusive use for the weekend is. It allowed us to be completely relaxed, comfortable, and prepared. We started our weekend with a rehearsal dinner on the lawn area by the pool. The day of our wedding, we made a bit of a risky call to have the ceremony outdoors after some thundershowers passed. We did not regret it – the hilltop made for a beautiful setting, with the Piedmont hills in the background. Given the heat, we held cocktail hour indoors, in the space adjacent to the reception hall, and then opened the doors to the reception hall for dinner. The incomparable Culinary Delights by Feist, who I also highly, highly recommend, catered both our rehearsal dinner and reception dinner, including the fabulous cake! We ended the night with an after party by the pool, and a number of our guests decided to take a dip!Extra touches: two friendly horses on site; relaxing pool; cozy breakfast; spacious & well-stocked bridal suite!) My wife (then a fiancee) and I stayed there and it was a beautiful. Some family came a day before and the breakfast and the self-catered lunches were a mini-party in themselves. We held the wedding outside under the huge maple tree and it looked exquisite. It was a country wedding in nature and not so far from the city. The reception was held in their reception hall that was right there. There was no lag going from ceremony to party. Everything just flowed together. The staff helped us coordinate and plan at the last minute even while the caterers were there. Mary Armbruster(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 11-04-2015 There is nothing but great, fond memories from our wedding weekend at the Briar Patch. From the very beginning the management and staff (Henriette, Ellen, Alexandra, etc) were nothing but helpful and accommodating. We had to move our wedding date and they didn't try and overcharge us even though we moved to a different season. This and many other reasons, were a great weight lifted off our shoulders, considering we were paying for our wedding by ourselves.\r\rWe rented out the entire place for our wedding weekend. We had our rehearsal dinner, ceremony, and reception at the site. The staff was so helpful coordinating my wedding planner and caterer so that we had nothing to worry about for food or set up and tear down for either the ceremony or reception. This was so nice because I could then focus on other things I needed to get done for the wedding making sure my guests were comfortable.\r\rWe had our rehearsal dinner at the pool which was awesome! Even though people were being rowdy and having fun at the pool this didn't bother people who were staying in the main house, chicken coop or cottage. I stayed in the chicken coop with my bridesmaids and it was so nice! Everything was brand new and it was roomy and perfect for us to get ready. My husband stayed in the cottage, where we ended up staying the night of our wedding. It was big and cozy and perfect for the guys to get ready. All of our guests loved their rooms and had nothing but good things to say about our entire wedding weekend. They all had so much fun and we really did create awesome memories. The food in the morning was great and really went with the home/laid back/cozy feel we were going for.\r\rI could go on and on about the staff, the site, the location but let me just leave you with this: if you want an awesome, fun, beautiful, memorable wedding, go with this place. You will not feel overwhelmed, frustrated, or hopeless because you will have a good group of people who are professional and have planned and thrown (including the owners daughter's wedding) many weddings. Samantha Cranford(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 26-09-2015 The venue is beautiful and we wanted to be able to enjoy time with the wedding party and family for the entire weekend, which this venue allowed. They are extremely flexible and don't try to dictate every aspect of your stay there. They also go out of their way to make sure things are set up just how you would like, or even better. I wasn't even going to have formal tables set up for the rehearsal dinner (very informal, and I didn't want to add extra factors into an already busy weekend) but they asked and I said sure why not. They then proceeded to set up an entire area with tables and chairs to have a more structured rehearsal dinner, which was great. They even ran some errands for us when a family member or wedding party member would have had to do it otherwise. It really saved us time and hassle. That all being said, sometimes it is hard to locate employees on the premises during the weekend, but if you get one of their phone numbers, it isn't too hard to find whatever answer you are looking for. The venue is more expensive, but you get the whole place all weekend, includes breakfasts, and they don't nickel and dime you with random fees like some places do (cake cutting, corkage fee, bringing outside vendor, bringing your own liquor, etc. ) The money we saved by having everything at one venue and being able to bring in our own vendors and alcohol likely made up the difference between having the wedding at another venue. I would recommend this venue. Reviewed on 28-10-2015
Anna Major(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 09-04-2016 My *now* husband and I were looking for a perfect location for our wedding. We had a few things we wanted in mind. We wanted a \"semi-destination\" where we and our close family and friends could get away from the crazy Northern Virginia lifestyle, we wanted our wedding to feel like a family reunion, we wanted something cute and scenic, and something that reminded me of being at my grandfather's house as a child. \rWe drove up the long gravel driveway, under the canopy of trees, and at the end of the drive we saw the beautiful historic main house. We knew we found something special. We walked the grounds, saw all the adorable rooms, the grand reception hall with huge crystal chandeliers, the more intimate wood beamed cocktail room, the open patio with the amazing view, the pool and hot tub, and finally the ceremony site. A large open site with a huge tree front and center. I turned to my then-fiance and told him, I think this is it. \rOnce we sat down and started talking dates and costs, they informed us of \"Dan's Deals\". My fiance and I were going to be paying for our entire wedding ourselves, so budget was a huge factor. They offered us a great deal if we booked a date that was 3 months away. My fiance and I love a good challenge, so after getting the parents' approval we decided to go for it. \rThe venue and everyone working at the venue was MORE than perfect. Everyone was super responsive, available to answer questions at nearly any time in the day, sweet, smiling and just seemed to love their job! The venue itself was beautiful, clean, amazing. I felt like I was living in a fairy tale the entire weekend. We would walk around at night surrounded by fireflies, little bunnies, frogs, and even a little groundhog poked his head out to see what was going on. It was better than anything I ever imagined. The sheets were so soft and comfortable, and they even found a pair of sunglasses someone had left behind and mailed them to me!\rBest weekend of my life. Reviewed on 16-10-2015

Henriette Buell was our gem, without a doubt. She not only works at the Bed and Breakfast, but also acted as my wedding planner, florist, and therapist. The location is very flexible with opportunities to save. We had our wedding Thanksgiving weekend, which allowed us to use all of the rooms from Wednesday to Sunday. Along with Henriette's help, it was a relaxed and well organized week!\r\rWe also used Six Star Catering, Mike Bell from MrDeeJay, Amie Otto Photography, and Dolche Film Studios, and First Impressions Salon as our other vendors. They were all incredible and worked well as a team. It was an excellent combination! We had an indoor wedding with shuttles to the nearby Hampton Inn, which allowed for a safe and easy wedding. \r\rAside from the onsite amenities, the owners are incredibly kind and flexible. The cocktail hour was held outside as well, it was in front of the house with lawn games. The reception hall is set up really nicely for wedding receptions and I love the big chandeliers. Sarah Ruth Goldman(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 12-07-2014 Wow. Briar Patch B&B was completely and utterly perfect, and surpassed every expectation that my husband and I had. It was not only the best day of our lives, but the best weekend too. We feel so lucky to have had the opportunity to celebrate our wedding at Briar Patch.\r\rDan & Ellen were the first wedding vendors to make me feel like a normal person. When we toured BP, I felt like I had left the B.S. of the wedding industry and found a place that truly supported the real meaning of a wedding. The vibe was casual but professional, the setting was stunning and understated, and dogs and cats roamed the property. And the price was perfect. I could not believe that the cost included use of all of the space AND all of the rooms. \r\rDuring the year of our engagement, BP was so helpful and responsive. Stupid questions were immediately answered with patience and enthusiasm, and impromptu visits during the week were always welcomed. The staff consistently went out of the way to help me and Sean feel comfortable and excited. We also signed up for Henriette Buell's day-of wedding coordination, which is a separate business (Buelltiful Events), but she manages BP and lives on the premises. She was amazing and a real joy to work with. She is so calming and straight forward, and I absolutely recommend working with her. \r\rThe weekend was everything we wanted. Friends & Family got into town on Friday and joined us for a fun day by the pool. Then our friends helped us set up for our Welcome Dinner, which ended up being 150 of our guests! It was a relaxed BBQ on the front lawn, catered by Smokin Willies. We ended the night with an open mic where people gave toasts. I can't recommend something like this enough!\r\r\rOn Saturday morning we shared breakfast (because it's a B&B! And you get to start each morning with an AMAZING home-cooked meal!!), and the girls went over to the cottage for hair & make up. We had so much fun getting ready while the guys hung out and got dressed in the living room of the main house. Our ceremony was on a hill towards the back of the property, which was perfectly serene and beautiful. Our cocktail hour was in the Silver & Bronze Fox Rooms, and then the doors opened to the Gold Fox Room. \r\rLeading up to the wedding day we were nervous about space. The room fits 200 people, but we had 190 people and an 11 piece band. BP & our caterer worked with us to make a plan that worked very well. Our band set up in the back left corner and tables covered the entirety of the space. After dinner, 7 of the 20 tables were broken down for dancing. It was FABULOUS. The band was so great that everyone was ready to dance as soon as they walked in, and since the broken down tables were all of our young friends, they didn't mind at all. In terms of space, it was tight. The tables were close to each other, but that just enhanced the experience for us. It felt like one big dinner party of the people we loved the most. For a wedding of 190 people, the BP setting made everything feel so intimate and wonderful.\r\rWe had so many people tell us how much FUN they had at our wedding, and I thank Briar Patch for so much of that. The setting was homey and comfortable that we felt so relaxed by Saturday, and the wedding was as if were just welcoming these 200 guests into our own home.\r\rFinally, our friend made a video that shows the fun weekend! Katie Filkins(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 27-12-2013 When my husband and I set out to plan our wedding, we knew that we didn't want the conventional wedding weekend. Instead, we wanted to put our own spin on things by keeping everything simple and relaxed in a beautiful outdoorsy setting with lots of family time. Briar Patch was the PERFECT solution to accomplish this goal! Instead of one long marathon wedding day, we split things up by holding an intimate family ceremony on Friday night instead of a rehearsal and dinner, followed by a big party on Saturday where we invited additional friends to join us! This was made possible because we had exclusive use of the property from Friday afternoon to lunch on Sunday. We had the freedom, flexibility, and tools to take things slow, enjoy the location, be together with friends and family, and do things our way. \r\rThe Briar Patch staff went out of their way to support this non-traditional format, and was a huge resource and supporter every step of the way. Leading up to our wedding, they answered each question in record time, provided vendor suggestions (we loved Helga's!!!), and chipped in tips and resources whenever possible.\r\rThe weekend of the event they welcomed us with open arms, remained on site to provide support, and hosted my family for a delicious breakfast each morning. \r\rThe Briar Patch B&B and Fox Den were the ideal setting to give us the fun, low-key, intimate, and BEAUTIFUL wedding we wanted, and Dan and Co. went above and beyond to make everything possible. erika pitstick(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 30-11-2013 Back when we were engaged my husband and I really prayed for the perfect wedding venue. A place where family and friends could hang out before the wedding day. The last thing I wanted was to rush everything (flowers, food, time with loved ones)...but instead we were looking for a cozy/family place. We called in and went to check out the place....and right there and then we decided we wanted it. It was our first and ONLY choice. With the wonderful pictures and reviews now us being there in person... it was a confirmation that this was all legit. It was the perfect place for us to have our family and loved ones together days before the wedding. Because of budget purposes we did not have a florist do our flowers, but we ordered them wholesale and made them ourselves. We also did not hire a wedding planner, but instead I along with family planned it all. The food, decorations, and environment was all very family friendly. We worked with mason jars and had a BBQ dinner and throughout the whole wedding we couldn't imagine our wedding being any better. The beautiful inn with their unique vintage looking rooms/cottage plus their gorgeous ceremony/reception area was just mind blowing. There was no need in decorating the place that much because it was all beautifully made. Moreover, from day one they told us we could use anything in their closet (oil lamps, table numbers, flowers, etc) and their professional Chef kitchen (utensils/plates/flower pots) were open for us to use.\r\rBriar Patch went beyond our expectations...We got the thanksgiving package which the price was incredible (about $5,500) being that it included ALL the bed & breakfast rooms as well as breakfast for everyone from Wednesday - Sunday. We got married on November 30th. The staff was very professional and friendly- Best people I have ever worked with. They returned all my emails/calls very quickly, they were ok with me coming to see the reception as many times as I wanted, but most importantly....they really cared about us! It was not just another wedding for them. \r\rDan, Ellen, Henriette, Tricia & the staff at Briar Patch B&B Inn all cared about our comfort and were 100% all there available to help in any way. At the wedding I remember seeing Tricia moving chairs from room to room - She was helping staff that we hired...making sure the reception was ready on time. Tricia did not have to do this... it was not in her \"job description\" ... but she was involved in our special day making sure everything was running smoothly....they all were. \r\rHERE IS A VIDEO OF OUR WEDDING AT BRIAR PATCH- CHECK IT OUT FOR YOURSELF\rhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4NUDh-uPck&feature=youtu.be\r Reviewed on 28-12-2013

Dan and Ellen greeted us with open arms and sheer excitement to show us the grounds/venue. We left that day knowing our wedding day would be magical. Throughout our 11 months of planning we were encouraged to stop by, email 100 questions and concerns each being answered by the amazing staff quickly and with care to help calm our worries. 24 November ended up being the coldest day in November, our plans of an outdoor ceremony were crushed. Henriette quickly helped us move our plan indoors without batting an eye. She helped with making sure we were not stressed and took moments to ourselves. Our friends and family gathered in the Bronze room for a most magical ceremony. We then enjoyed two days of celebrating with our friends and family most of whom stayed at the Inn with us. I say this because we had an outdoor ceremony planned in July, it rained on our wedding day, and we were able to have both the ceremony and reception in their indoor facility with no problem whatsoever. What a relief! Their staff was very attentive and helpful, and whole place had a homey feel, even though it had a nice elegance as well. We had the entire wedding party and family stay at the B&B, and they took care of all of our finicky dietary preferences quite thoroughly. I was planning a wedding for hopefully 4months time if my visa came through, so couldn't actually book anything. On a trip to visit my fiance in April 2013, we went to the site & were both certain it would be our site.\rFinally managed to book a midweek August wedding barely 2 months before the date having at last received approval to marry an American!\rEveryone at the Briar Patch was wonderful via email and Tricia was great help both on the day we visited initially and on the day itself.\r\rMy only comment is - the bugs in the grass BITE A LOT as many of us found out at the rehearsal & were prepared for the day of. Take repellant for yourselves & the guests.\r\rThe white chairs for outdoor use were not clean, my husband & his brothers & my brother were scrubbing them for the rehearsal & then more for the wedding day. Also, don't forget to arrange for the groomsmen or whoever to clear them away afterwards - my husband & I were up early to say goodbye to some of my family returning to UK & then proceeded to tidy the chairs away - they are heavy & the trolleys they have were pretty useless. Not really what you want to do on the morning after your wedding.\r\rThe cottage was wonderful for me & the girls to get ready in on site and everyone loved the location and the buildings. Plus all my visiting family from UK fit in the main house so stayed there both before & after the wedding plus some extra nights!\r\rI've only knocked off the point for service, because seeming as the Briar Patch don't provide a whole lot other than venue & grounds, it would be nice if the chairs were clean & there was an easier way of getting them up the hill to the barn. Kitt Evans(bride)3 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 27-05-2013 Briar Patch Bed & Breakfast is an absolutely gorgeous site. You have a choice of several different locations with views for outdoor ceremonies and they have an ample sized receiving hall. The inn itself is adorable and the cottage is delightful.\r\rHowever, the service we received we both considered to be shockingly inadequate given how much we spent and the way they advertise. Our contract said we could check in at 3 pm and when we arrived to do so no one was anywhere in site to greet us and the rooms were still being made up. We hung around with our whole bridal party for a half an hour wandering around trying to find someone. When we finally did, they acted surprised we expected something as simple as a greeting and a walk-through to make sure everything was set up as we liked! They didn't bother, just told us to make ourselves at home. No information was given.\r\rOne of the reasons we went with Briar Patch was the idea of having the extra time on site with our bridal party, almost of all of whom had traveled for our wedding (as we did, from GA). The inn advertises use of the pool and hot tub, which we were all looking forward to. The pool was not clean, still had leaves in it, no one told us where to find towels or chairs and again, we spent a good half an hour trying to find them or someone to tell us where they were. The hot tub was great the first night, but the second night when we all went to relax after the wedding guests had left, it was frigid. They told us it had been refilled that morning and we had to turn it on with the cover over it and let it sit for 2-3 hours to heat up. That would have been great information to have before 9 pm when we want to relax in it! \r\rThe owner was rude whenever I interacted with him except for during the wedding itself. The morning of he was making sarcastic comments that had all my girl's eyebrows raised and was frankly the last thing a bride needed, and when I asked him to please stop, he responded with more sarcasm! I couldn't believe how we were treated, especially given how expensive a location it is. To top it off, the last night we stayed there, the ceiling of one of my bridesmaid's room leaked right onto her and her husband and their baby in bed! When I called the on site manager, she tried to persuade us the room we moved them into (vacated by a wedding party member who had to leave earlier) didn't need the sheets changed! It took her half an hour to get over to put clean sheets on despite the fact that I told her it was the couple with the baby, and no they really did not want to sleep in someone else's bedsheets. \r\rThe location is stunning, the food is delicious, we had an amazing wedding, but I don't know if I could recommend it based on the abysmal service. You couldn't ask for a better setting for a wedding. They have 3 locations for weddings; out front, in the back, or in the Foxden. We had ours out front and it was such a wonderful setting for the ceremony under the tree. Then it's just a short walk for guests to the Fox Den for the cocktail hour and reception. The Fox Den is so beautifully decorated that we didn't even add any additional decoration for the reception, just table cloths and center pieces. And the cottage is a wonderful place for the bridal party to get ready with plenty of space. It's great that they have rooms at the B&B for guests to stay at also.
