We got married in the barn at Buttermilk Falls Inn & Spa in September of 2023. Overall, we had a wonderful weekend. The folks who work there are all extremely nice, flexible, and chill. It really felt like we had the place to ourselves and the staff was respectful and supportive to make the weekend very special.Property:First, the property is incredibly gorgeous and perfect for a wedding. Friends and family stayed on property and all of the residences were lovely, both the on property houses and the inn itself. Guests enjoyed going on walks during the days, seeing the animals near the barn, and the free breakfast at the inn is SO GOOD. My wife and I stayed in Pony’s Pad, which was an awesome home base for the weekend. Rehearsal Dinner & Welcome Party: We chose to have our rehearsal dinner at the patio near the inn. They have a big pizza oven and do buffet-style dinner with a bar. We had some tricky weather (it was raining and chilly) and rented some heaters for the patio. With the tent flaps down and some heaters (rented) it was perfectly comfortable on the patio. After the rehearsal dinner, we did a welcome party with some snacks. It was also cozy and casual. We had some friends play music and used a bluetooth speaker when they were finished. The patio fit 50+ people comfortably for mingling and drinks. Ceremony and Reception:We were originally going to be married at the pond, but had to move to the Waterfront Patio due to construction at Henry’s restaurant. The change of plans was smooth and the location was stunning. It’s an incredible view of the Hudson, you really can’t complain. The reception in the barn was fantastic. We had around 75 people, it felt like the right size for that group. We fit everyone comfortably at tables with room for a dance floor. It was intimate and cozy and everyone danced like crazy. It was a great time. The food was solid, especially the desserts. Overall we had a fantastic experience at Buttermilk. It’s very nice without feeling too upscale or pretentious, and the venue knows how to throw a wedding. It was very special and exactly what we hoped. Highly recommend. Reviewed on 04-12-2023

I made three email attempts to contact the wedding planner with no return emails. I finally called and I was told she has been out sick and no one else could even give me the wedding packages to look over. I was told to email the planner directly so I did and the response I got was “ I’m out sick with the date of return and than told expect delays on responses when I return. Nothing else. I am very disappointed! However it just tells me that they don’t care to much about hosting wedding there. I would not recommend this place unless you have a lot of time to sit around and wait ! Claire Luoto(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 10-08-2019 Quite easily the most romantic place on earth. I always had an idea of weeping willows (reminded me of my childhood) with an American barn like rustic feel, but the cottage-like essence of England with the vines up the sides of houses (my husband is a Brit). This little hidden gem is literally that. I couldn't believe it. Plus it adds its own charms and quaint quirks like the llamas, swans and ducks with sweeping river views and spas. The food is exceptional, too. All our guests raved about their dinner and some even extended their stays! Reviewed on 03-02-2020
Claire Kruse(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 21-09-2019 Buttermilk Falls Inn & Spa was the perfect venue for our big day and our experience there was truly 5-star. Soon after getting engaged, we went to Henry's on the Farm for brunch and immediately had our hearts set on getting married there. Michael was so supportive through the long lead-up to our wedding date and happily answered all the crazy questions we had. He even prepared the wood fired pizzas at our rehearsal dinner himself! Becca also did a fabulous job making our vision for the reception decor come to life; it was better than I could have imagined or done myself. Our guests were so impressed with the beautiful setting, outstanding food, and amazing service... we've received nothing but glowing compliments since. My husband and I couldn't be happier with how everything turned out and we will undoubtedly be returning to the spa and restaurant for many years to come! Reviewed on 28-12-2019
Robert Sesek(groom)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 25-05-2019 Buttermilk was a spectacular venue for our wedding of 50 people. It was a perfect escape from our home in NYC, but close enough that our city friends could still come up just for the wedding. The grounds at Buttermilk are gorgeous, especially for us in late May. We held our ceremony on the patio overlooking the Hudson, with the reception in the barn. The food for both cocktail hour and dinner very much impressed, since the catering goes through the on-premise restaurant Henry's at the Farm. Multiple guests remarked how much they enjoyed their meals, which was important for us since we think bad wedding food can ruin the evening. We also did the rehearsal dinner -- a whole roast pig! -- at Buttermilk, which was awesome. The barn is perfect for smaller weddings, as it has an intimate feeling without being too rustic (like some barn venues can be). Having the rooms available on-site for VIPs is also a huge plus, though we also booked a block of rooms for other guests for overflow and for who did not want to spend as much. What you will not find advertised on Buttermilk's website though is the exceptional staff, especially the wedding coordinator Michael. He helped manage the entire wedding planning process from the Buttermilk side and was able to anticipate many of our questions in advance. His list of recommended vendors was also stellar, especially since his working relationships with them made the evening run even more smoothly. Day-of, Michael kept the evening running on-schedule which let us just enjoy the time with our guests. The serving staff that Michael also selected for both the rehearsal and reception were very professional while also being friendly and personable. The entire weekend felt so magical, and we really owe a lot of that to Buttermilk. Reviewed on 28-07-2019
Alexandra Romano(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 16-06-2018 Buttermilk Falls Inn is perfect. If you're looking for a venue that has it all, look no further! We wanted a place with gorgeous grounds, beautiful views, and accommodations for our out of town family and friends. BFI had all of that and more. We had all of our events for the weekend at BFI, which was fantastic because we never had to leave and every event felt special and different. Our pizza themed rehearsal dinner was outside of the Main Inn, our wedding ceremony was outside at Swan Pond, our reception was tented on the Patio overlooking the Hudson River and our after party was in the Barn complete with comfort food. The food all weekend was absolutely incredible and our family and friends still rave about how delicious everything was. Coming from a food-loving Italian family, that's some compliment! My husband and I still crave the Tuna Poke from cocktail hour.Throughout the entire planning process Michael was a dream to work with and went above and beyond. He was so organized and helped us bring our dream wedding to life. He did everything from reminder emails, to organizing an extremely detailed planning meeting, to excellent vendor recommendations and coordinating all rentals. Michael is a true professional and offers valuable and expert opinions, and he thinks of EVERYTHING!The entire weekend ran so smoothly and Annemarie (our designated event captain for the weekend) and her daughters ensured that every detail was executed perfectly. They could not have been nicer and more helpful all weekend. Whenever I turned around Annemarie was always there to make sure I had what I needed. People always say something is bound to go wrong, but thanks to this incredible team I can say everything was flawless. Clifton Fels(groom)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 11-08-2018 Put simply: our wedding would just not have been as good without Michael, and the whole team, at Buttermilk Falls. It’s hard to even imagine that we once considered anywhere else. First, the location is absolutely gorgeous. The estate is 75 acres in the Hudson valley, and has breathtaking views of the Hudson river, as well as picturesque trees, bridges, and more. There are a variety of backdrops where you can get married, from a cozier area under a willow tree to a pavilion overlooking the river to a large rustic barn that is perfect for both the reception or the ceremony. Every aspect of this experience was top-notch. There are room in the inn, or several cottages and guest houses for you and your guests that is not only convenient but makes everyone feel like they are part of a very special vacation from the outside world. We worked with Michael over the course of several months. There were things we didn’t even know we needed to plan for that were made effortless. Our rehearsal dinner and our reception were catered by Henry’s, the farm-to-table restaurant there, and we had a wide variety of options, all delicious. The staff came to know us over those couple of nights such that we not only all knew each other by name, but we felt they were a *part* of our wedding as much as our guests. My wife and I were delighted to see later that the serving team took a group photo in our photo booth to leave for us. There’s just no way to articulate comprehensively everything that made this the right choice. Essentially, everything was made easier for us, and nothing was made harder. All of our guests fell in love with the place, and to a one, the guests said it was one of the best weddings they’d ever been to. This is very much because of our venue. Something that says a lot: we had planned to get married on the pavilion. But it rained the day of our wedding. Far from being a catastrophe, the team quickly set up the barn for the ceremony and it was so good, we forgot we hadn’t decided to get married there to begin with. We loved our experience so much, it’s kind of a shame we just can’t do it all over again. Reviewed on 15-08-2018

We spent the weekend here with our family and friends, the majority of which came from overseas or interstate. The grounds are stunning, and all of the accommodations are rustic but modern. The cocktail hour on the Barn Patio was exceptional, I still have guests talking about how delicious the food was! Megan D.(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 18-09-2016 My husband and I were married here in September 2016. The magical grounds, enchanting reception space, and exceptional service made for a fairytale wedding weekend.THE PROCESS/(MICHAEL!): The planning process was a breeze, thanks to Buttermilk's coordinator, Michael. There are no words to describe how wonderful Michael is. We booked the venue about a year and a half from our wedding date, and Michael walked us through the process step by step -- many times knowing the answers to our questions before we even asked! Every person we talked to during our stay (family and Buttermilk staff, too!) spoke tremendously of Michael, and to us, that's a testament to how amazing Michael is at what he does.THE INN: We spent the weekend at Buttermilk with our closest family and friends. The majority of our guests came from Long Island, Manhattan and Connecticut; it's an accessible venue that somehow manages to feel completely off the beaten path. The Inn has rustic charm -- and the cottages and houses on the property have modernized amenities. There was a hiccup or two in coordinating the room assignments for the weekend, but all worked out in the end. We heard nothing but great things from our guests about their weekend stay. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Pony's Pad, which overlooked the stunning grounds.THE WEDDING: The wedding was absolutely magical. The rehearsal and rehearsal dinner, held on the patio outside the Inn, ran so smoothly. We had our ceremony near Swan Pond, and the grounds were meticulously groomed in preparation for the big day (despite there having been rainfall the night before). The Barn, the site for our cocktail hour and wedding reception, was gorgeously intimate and romantic. The barn's balcony, which overlooks the surprisingly not-stinky farm, has a lovely view. Unlike many other rustic reception sites, this barn is climate controlled and has a full kitchen. Two major pluses!THE FOOD: Henry's at the Farm, the onsite restaurant, catered our rehearsal dinner and wedding reception. The farm-to-table fare was absolutely delicious. All of our guests appreciated the unique menu that Michael helped us craft. Breakfast was included as part of staying at the Inn -- and the offerings were delicious and much more special than cold eggs and stale muffins. We were completely satisfied.THE SPA: An awesome perk of booking our wedding at Buttermilk was that we received complimentary services at The Spa at Buttermilk. We decided to use the services the day after our reception, after our guests left the Inn. The spa was clean, the atmosphere was relaxing, and the massages were very, very good.OVERALL EXPERIENCE: Tremendous! We had an amazing weekend. The whole experience was everything we could have imagined -- and more. We're tremendously grateful. Reviewed on 06-11-2016

It is the perfect venue for a couple looking for a unique but classy wedding with rustic charm. It really felt like a fairy tale to be married in front of swan-surrounded willow tree, then dance the night away in a renovated barn. The event coordinator, Michael, is very responsive via email and will work with you to customize your event exactly as you like it. They are also very flexible and allowed us to visit the venue with multiple vendors on multiple occasions. The food at the wedding, catered by the onsite restaurant, Henry's, was absolutely delicious. We got so many compliments from the guests on the food and on the venue in general. It is truly a magical location for a beautiful and unique wedding! The accommodations are also gorgeous. Michael Elbe was above and beyond a lifesaver and one of the best parts of Buttermilk. He is extremely responsive, helpful and you can tell he really loves what he does. He really stood out and helped alleviate so much stress I was having. My husband and I stayed at the pony pad and our groomsmen had the riverknoll house and both places exceeded our expectations. I seriously can't wait to come back. Everyone is still telling us how amazing the food is. Buttermilk doesn't offer traditional tasting but you can dine in the restaurant to get an idea of the quality of the food which is what we did and the food was even better than we thought it would be and both my husband and I are in the restaurant industry in NYC. It is a truly unique place nestled into the woods on the Hudson River and is part B&B and part farm with orchards, gardens, and some adorable llamas and goats and other animals. The entire inn and grounds are gorgeous and bountiful with life and natural beauty. Michael, the event coordinator, was wonderful and made the process of planning the event easy and enjoyable. He guided us through the entire process and then on the day of the wedding, he was there to make sure everything ran smoothly, which it did. Michael also directed our wedding rehearsal and set up the rehearsal dinner the evening before the wedding. We had our ceremony on the patio overlooking the Hudson River and our reception in the barn event space, which we were able to decorate the day before and the morning of. Michelle Torres(bride)3 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 11-06-2011 If I had to rate Buttermilk Falls just on my wedding day, I might have given them 4 or 5 stars. However, our dealings with the venue were so awful prior to the wedding that our overall experience suffered.\r\rThe Good:\rOur wedding weekend was beautiful and the staff was accomodating. We had the Inn and the grounds for the entire weekend, so it was a mini vacation our guests. The grounds of Buttermilk Falls are spectacular and the Inn is pretty adorable. The guests raved about the place all weekend. If you want to turn your wedding into a whole weekend of fun, Buttermilk Falls is a place you should consider. \r\rThe Bad:\rThe business practices of the management of Buttermilk Falls were pretty suspect and shady throughout the entire planning process. The manager through whom we booked the venue was fired about 2 months after we signed out contract and our deposit was submitted (we booked our venue about 13 months ahead of time). We got in touch with the new manager about 4 months after we booked requesting a copy of our contract (we had a copy and Buttermilk Fall's standard contract did not require a countersignature by them, but we just wanted to make sure we were on their radar because we hadn't heard anything from them about our wedding or the new management). We communicated with the new manager via email, but it took him a month to finally send the contract. When we received the contract back, there was a post-it note stuck to it asking us to initial new changes they had made and send back. One of those changes was one ending our wedding an hour prior than the agreed upon time (10pm rather than 11pm). We told them that we wouldn't accept the changes since we signed their form contract and our deposit was cashed 5 or 6 months prior, to which they responded that we could have our wedding somewhere else. After cooler heads prevailed, they agreed to honor the contract terms, but then began to sneak in new rules and fees that weren't mentioned or contemplated in the contract (a $300 dishwashing fee if we had our after party in the restaurant, a prohibition of having an after party in one of the houses on the property even though the former manager assured us that it was fine, etc.) \r\rIn addition, we had the choice to have the Inn or our wedding caterer (Main Course) cater the rehearsal bbq. We waited for months for the proposal from Buttermilk and ultimately decided to go with Main Course. Then, about 4 months before our wedding, and even though our contract explicitly stated that we would have exclusive use of the property from Friday at check-in to Sunday at checkout, they told us that because we decided to not use the Inn's catering service, they were going to keep the on-site restaurant open to make up lost profits (their actual words) and, even though we were promised the restaurant if case of rain, we would have to pay to tent the patio. We had enough at this point, and sent the manager a pretty stern e-mail threatening litigation for breach of contract. They finally agreed to honor the contract, and the new manager was fired about a month before our wedding (not sure if our wedding had anything to do with it). Things went smoother after that.\r\rBottom line:\rThe place is gorgeous, but we lived in fear that something was going to go horribly wrong up until the wedding day. If you book here, make sure EVERYTHING is in the contract, because they may try to sneak in new terms that benefit them. Reviewed on 07-10-2011
