Having our wedding at The Cavalier was a dream. The wedding team was with us every step of the way coordinating with our wedding planner to make sure every detail was perfect. We didn't have to think about anything the day of. We knew we were in great hands with Gina! The food was excellent, and the ambiance was amazing! Reviewed on 07-01-2024
Emily Stringer(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 22-10-2022 My husband and I were married at The Cavalier on 10.22.22 and had a wonderful experience. It was the wedding weekend of our dreams. The staff at The Cavalier are top-notch; all are polite, friendly, and accommodating. We stayed in the bridal suite for three nights which was absolutely beautiful with lots of space. Being able to settle into a beautiful room took the edge off and set the stage for me to enjoy the weekend. Leading up to the wedding, I worked with a combination of Jocelyn, Jessica, and Gina and all are true professionals. I am a very detail-oriented person who dabbles in events professionally, and every meeting resulted in detailed notes, photos of place settings, runners, flatware, etc that we had discussed and clear next steps. I live four hours from Virginia Beach, and these ladies made it a breeze to plan from afar; I only had to be on-site four times throughout the process. On Friday night, we hosted our rehearsal dinner and welcome party at The Cavalier Beach Club. The space was beautiful and modern, and the service was acceptable. My only complaint is that the only option for food was a buffet. After the dinner portion which was reserved for the bridal party and immediate family, the venue was opened up to all guests for a welcome party. The deck was lined with outdoor heaters, and we had a beautiful evening mixing and mingling with guests. On Saturday, our timeline started at 8AM for hair and makeup. We had an early morning delivery of scrambled eggs, fruit, and yogurt for the bridesmaids with two bottles of sparkling wine. For lunch, we had a spread of roasted veggies, hummus, and cheese delivered that was absolutely delicious! The quantity per person ensured that no one went hungry; we even had enough to share with our hair and makeup stylists. Weather had been beautiful early in the day, but it was clear a storm system was blowing in while we were doing our first look photos. I noticed how windy it was, not knowing the temperature was dropping rapidly. Had I known, I would have made the call to move our cocktail hour indoors to our backup location. My only regret is that no one forced that decision on me. Otherwise, our ceremony was perfect, and no one was stuck waiting in line at cocktail hour since we had requested 100 orange crushes be passed to guests to cut down on wait times. Our reception was amazing - I've had several guests tell me it was the most beautiful event they have ever attended. The ballroom was glowing, and everything was set up exactly as designed. The only complaint I have is that the dinner service was...leisurely. With our event starting at 630PM, we were already eating late. I wanted to see plates go down more quickly than they did. It is impressive how the banquet staff works - servers will serve an entire table at once simultaneously, and then work their way to the next table doing the same. However, it is a PROCESS. Note to brides and planners: expect two hours of dinner at this venue. At first, I was shaken up regarding this because it was wrecking my timeline, but only me and my coordinator noticed. We were able to get toasts, parent dances, and cake cutting out of the way while guests ate and still opened the dance floor by 10PM which was only 30 minutes later than planned. We danced the night away, and had a beautiful exit that brought us down to The Hunt Room for an after-party. It was a beautiful day, and The Cavalier will always hold a special place in my heart. Hallie Silliphant(other)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 21-10-2022 We recently had our daughter's wedding at the Cavalier and a tented reception on the lawn. It turned out to be an absolutely beautiful event! The staff provided the best possible service and worked with our planner, over the past year, to ensure that our needs were met and nothing was missed. The wedding was beautiful, the service was spectacular, and our guest's indicated that they felt like it was a fairy tale! Reviewed on 01-11-2022
Jamie Stallard(bride)2 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 13-11-2021 My husband and I got married at the Marriott 11/13/21. We also did our rehearsal dinner at the Cavalier space next door. The venue was updated and spacious. The company had numerous management changes throughout our year of planning so it made it very confusing and at times, very stressful for communicating effectively or at all. The weeks leading up, especially a couple of days before, my mother in law had questions and couldn’t get an email or phone call back until our wedding coordinator texted the Marriott liaison. The rehearsal dinner food was extremely unimpressive. The chicken was so dry, many did not eat it after the first bite. They ran out of soup for our planned 45 person party. Two of our guests did not have seats the entire dinner. The front desk staff refused to assist myself, the bride, with placing delicate and expensive belongings in our private room as they stated “they didn’t have a key”, however a nice doorman let us in with no problem. We had champagne butlered while guests seated prior to the ceremony start. Several guests told me they never received champagne and it was hard to find someone to ask for some although we paid for it. Numerous guests and people in the wedding party stated they didn’t once receive a hors d’oeuvre during cocktail hour. My husband and I were offered ONCE during pictures. Normally, experienced places set aside some for the people taking pictures, at least every wedding I’ve been in has. Cocktail hour was probably the most disappointing. On top of the lacking passing of hors d’oeuvres, many guests asked me why they were unable to get a drink when we paid for an open bar. Many stated they asked for wine and that the bartender continued to be “out” of everything. So very upsetting to hear after the fact. For the reception, we paid for an open bar and at 9:30 it would turn to cash. 10 minutes prior to the bar turning over, they refused to give my maid of honor a beer. She ended up paying for it. Completely unacceptable. I do not recommend the Marriott for your dream come true wedding unless you have a wedding coordinator. That is the only reason my day was as smooth and “things” got done. Megan Francisn(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 04-09-2020 We got married here on the seaside terrace on 09/04/2020. What makes this venue special is the beauty of an outdoor Oceanside wedding and the customer service. We were forced to have a 35 person wedding because I wanted a safer wedding (ugh covid) and we got married in September 2020. The views were beautiful. It felt like a destination wedding and we’ve lived in vb for years! Our pictures are so beautiful. Lea Gust was the best person to work with. She called us on her days off to brain storm and worked so hard to help us on our big day. Our small wedding felt so special and fun because of her her attention to detail. The food was also wonderful and there are so many great spots for pictures. We love you Lea! Thank you for the memories, Marriott! Reviewed on 18-09-2020
