Kathleen Kolberg(other)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 21-05-2022 We had a complicated multi-cultural wedding at Century Center with a good deal of religious and allergy issues regarding food. I could not be more pleased with how the Century Center staff, especially Tom and the chef, responded to the challenges. The 3-hour initial service and lunch was supposed to be outside but was threatened by rain and so Tom directed the back-up plan inside one of the upper ballrooms. The afternoon shorter Christian ceremony was set-up outside on the island since the rain had ceased mid-day. So they provided three set-up spaces instead of the two originally planned! Our reception and dinner were in the Great Hall and everyone complimented the all-vegetarian menu (including our non-vegetarians). It was a very long day for their staff (over 12 hours) and they were professional and reliable. I would gladly trust them with any other event. Reviewed on 09-06-2022
Alicia Drumm(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 07-09-2019 We fell in love with the Century Center after seeing the enormous windows that overlooked the river and the grand staircase down into the Great Hall. The venue was everything we had hoped for and was the perfect size for the number of guests that we had (190). The staff took care of everything for us, which was amazing, and the food was honestly the best wedding food I've ever had (and I'm not just bragging since it was my wedding food, it really was a quality meal)! And the island was THE PERFECT place for our cocktail hour. It was beautiful, and all of our guests raved about it. We had a wonderful time working with Jennifer Hoke, who was attentive and made sure everything that could be prepared for was. She and Kate Lawton also worked with us to create a more tailored wedding package that would work with our budget and creative vision. We did have some issues in communication initially right after we booked (the management team was in the middle of a team change and were understaffed for a few months), but once Jennifer came into the role, we had a very easy time getting in contact and getting everything coordinated with them. Vickie Jankoski(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 04-05-2019 Kate at the Century Center really made our vision come to life. The food was delicious and the staff was very professional. We had an amazing evening! The only negative would be that our final invoice ended up being more expensive then we originally planned so make sure if you get anything extra to get it all quoted out as you go. Jamie Bostedt(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 23-08-2014 We held our wedding reception at South Bend's Century Center. At the time we were planning our reception, the Century Center was taken over by new management. Things started off pretty rough for us having to deal with several people and their replacements. They were also severely under-staffed which made arranging times for things tough. We were finally set up with Kate who handled everything famously! She was truly wonderful to work with, got our reception planned, set up and coordinated during the reception without fail! Very thankful for her service. \rThe one problem we had was half our cake was missing; most of our guests didn't get cake. Kate was cutting our cake and sliced her hand (blood everywhere). She had to go to the ER & our cake was basically trashed. The staff made desserts though for the remainder of the guests. The staff & Kate were truly wonderful. We had a really beautiful reception at the Century Center thanks to Kate & her staff. Reviewed on 22-08-2015
Jessica L Lezynski(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 14-06-2014 The Century Center was where we had our June wedding reception. It held sentimental value to my fiance and I and they did not disappoint. Our guests had a fabulous time and food was great! The setup turned out amazing and the staff really let us customize exactly what we envisioned. Awesome experience! Reviewed on 21-06-2014
Erika Kroening(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 15-02-2014 I started working with Jennifer about a year in advance to our wedding, but the real planning started 6-8 months in advance. Jennifer and, later on, Ariel were both amazing. They took my theme, my ideas, my wedding and really helped me to run with it. They were extremely flexible when my numbers were quite a bit lower than we had initially expected. Ariel was able to make a diagram which showed exactly where my DJ, photobooth, breakfast buffet tables and Cornhole boards would be placed. Jennifer was in charge of the food, the bar, etc. Both were present on the wedding day and greeted us as soon as we got there and even took our drinks to our table so we didn't have to walk down the main staircase carrying them! \r\rThe entire day was as I have been envisioning it from day 1. Even the wait staff and the bartender were extremely polite and everyone had a big smile on their faces! I would absolutely recommend the Century Center to anyone looking to book a major event and/or wedding! Reviewed on 28-02-2014
Shena Bolz(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 22-06-2013 Our reception was held in the Great Hall and I couldn't have picked a more perfect location. There is an island outside that is available to use as well. The location is conveniently connected to the Double Tree Hotel. The staff is very friendly. They were very accommodating to our requests and needs. We live out of state and I was very thankful to their follow up. It made planning from a far very easy! The venue is very clean, there is plenty of parking, if you can dream it, I am pretty sure they could do it. There were so many areas for our photos, they were just amazing. The price was perfect. You do have to use their caterers, but they are fabulous! We received so many compliments on our food! I couldn't have picked a better location! We love them! Reviewed on 07-07-2013
Ashlee Ashlee(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 30-06-2012 My event manager, Kim, was extremely helpful throughout my entire planning process. When the room layout wasn't correct the night before the wedding she immediately began correcting it and made sure I was happy with the results. I was planning my wedding from out of town and she was also very easy to communicate with via email and accomodating to when I was in town and could meet with her. Reviewed on 21-08-2012
Rachel Suarez(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 08-07-2012 All of the people I worked with (3) were very friendly, professional, and helpful. They met with us several times to make sure we got everything right and corresponded with me through email and over the phone really well. I am not from or live in South Bend, so I thought it was going to be more difficult. The Great Hall was beautiful for my event and we were even able to take pictures outside not their island and got some great pictures by the river and statue. I was very pleased with the food and waiting service as well. My only complaint is that the dance floor seemed dirty, but I didn't care that night until I looked at my feet (I had to take my shoes off) and they were pretty much black. Great venue and good food. I would highly recommend it. Reviewed on 25-07-2012
Melissa Truong(bride)3 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 15-10-2011 This review is based on our Wedding we held at the Century Center in October 2011:\r\rI'm finally getting myself together to do our wedding vendor reviews and hope that future brides find these helpful. South Bend is my hometown, and while I'm very familiar with the town, it would still prove to be a challenge as being an out of town bride. We were torn between The Palais Royale and The Century Center. We ultimately went with the Century Center (The Grand Hall) as it's more of a clean slate for design. \r\rWorking with the staff at the Century Center was pleasant. We worked with them for both our rehearsal dinner (College Football Hall of Fame) and our wedding reception. First, securing our contract for The CC with Julie N. was clean and effortless. We had great pleasure in working with Melanie H. of catering- she and the Chef Peters were receptive and accommodating to my and my husband's foodie demands. We provided them with suggestions, ideas, and menus. In turn, they served fantastic food, which our guests are still raving about. \r\rWe worked with Alex B., the event manager for the layout and set up details. Our initial experience was great, until a major detail was overlooked- the sound system for our ceremony. This was handled by The CC staff at the most inopportune and inappropriate time- in the middle of the rehearsal dinner. Imagine entertaining your guests at your rehearsal dinner, then being pulled aside to handle a $660 charge. Not favorable by any means.\r\rIn summary, our overall experience was good. Getting married in South Bend, with a wedding of 175+, you have very few options. I would recommend the Century Center to future brides. They do need to update their website and pictures. I personally think the venue is much better in person, than what they have on the website. I was mildly embarrassed to show friends the website before the wedding. Reviewed on 11-11-2011
Kristin Jamison(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 10-09-2011 I used the Century Center for both my ceremony and reception because I liked the idea of guests not having to drive in between these events. We rented the white water room for the ceremony and the great hall for the reception. I really like the great hall with the giant staircase, hanging lights, and the large open windows overlooking the water. I thought this setting was gorgeous and great for pictures because I was able to have the water and lights in the background. My ceremony was very simple and plain but my pictures still turned out gorgeous despite not spending a lot of extra money decorating this room. They supplied us with a black backdrop which helped to add some elegance to the room. \r\rOverall, I had good service while working with the century center staff as well as Centerplate. Centerplate is the Century Center's own catering service which you are required to use. Please be aware that you are also required to spend a minimum of $7000 on food and beverage (this may have increased since my wedding). The majority of my planning was done through email and I had very few problems. \r\rWe did have one issue with my only vegetarian guest being served a non-vegetarian meal but staff I had worked with in the planning process were actively assisting throughout my reception and it was easily corrected. \r\rOverall my husband and I were very satisfied with both the ceremony and the reception. My guests agreed that it was a very pretty setting and also enjoyed its proximity to the downtown area and the Double Tree Hilton Hotel where they stayed. My wedding party benefited from using the sky-walk between the two buildings as well. Reviewed on 08-10-2011
Shauna Carlson(bride)1 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 07-08-2010 The Century Center has a reputation in our town for being one of the nicer venues. \rLet's start with the positives: The room rental was surprisingly affordable. I rented the whitewater ballroom for $500. Including tables, chairs, and basic linens.\rAlso, I heard several compliments on the food at my reception. (I didn't have time to eat, so I can't say first hand)\r\rThis being said- Maybe I was expecting a lot but I was very disappointed. Two weeks before my wedding they told me the black chairs I had reserved were given to another party and I would have green chairs that were old and beat up. (My wedding colors were black, silver, and red). I tried not to make a big deal of it (don't sweat the small stuff right?) and ordered some silver bows to be tied around the chairs to disguise them (cost: $5/chair x 150chairs). Then when I showed up at the reception, there were the black chairs! Glad I wasted money on bows I didn't even want.\rI felt they are very difficult to deal with, I kept getting passed from person to person. It seemed like every week a new person was in charge of my wedding and it was very frustrating because things would get lost in translation and I would have to reexplain EVERYTHING to each new person. As a result, some of the details were completely ignored by them on the big day. My husband and I were supposed to have a sweet heart table in the front of the room up on a riser with special lights behind it angled it in a certain way. I even had a meeting with the effects guy to discuss this. Well, we had a sweet heart table and that's it. No riser. No lights. Nothing. And I didn't get a chance to see it before the reception when it was too late to do anything. They were also supposed to have table markers up on a holder on each table. Well, those were missing too. No one knew which table to go to. Thankfully the couple I had manning the guest book took upon themselves to escort each guest to their table. \rSo as I said- the food was good, but dinner was unfortunately about an hour later than they promised. We had appetizers and cocktails, thankfully... But our reception was only 3 hours. So when dinner was late it wasn't very convenient.\rLast thing- during the whole process I felt they were not very honest with their pricing. The menu they gave me in our first meeting suddenly \"didn't have the right prices\" when I wanted to order the meal. They gave me an \"updated\" menu where everything was a lot pricier. Also, they seemed like they did not want to tell me the price of anything before I signed up for it. About a week before my wedding they decided to spring a bunch of hidden costs on me. \r\rOverall I was not impressed and would not choose to have a function there again. If the points I talked about don't matter to you then by all means, go to the Century Center. It was beautiful, especially with the river right there. Reviewed on 25-11-2010
Angela Bruszewski(bride)2 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 02-10-2010 We started working with one person for catering and century center and then she got let go because her mom had cancer and they wouldn't let her take leave. The replacement for century center was great however centerplate the caterer was terrible. Not easy to work with and tried to charge children for the bar package. I had to involve the manager to get them to create a soda package for anyone under 21. I plan events for a living and this was so unprofessional. I was promised certain things when booing and then had hidden costs. Overall the event went smoothly bur when it was time to cut my cake, coordinator had my cutlery and we had to have her paged. I would not reccommend this place! Reviewed on 06-11-2010
