Cliff House Maine Reviews
Doug Zingale(other)4 out of 5 Rating
We had a large wedding, 150 people, at the Cliff House on September 30th of this year. The event planning and dining staff were first rate. The facility and location impressed all of our guests. They were easy to work with, unfailing patient and full of good ideas. All of these aspects of holding a wedding there deserve 5 stars with enthusiasm. Unfortunately, their Accounting Department does not meet the standards of the rest of the organization and I am expressing my unhappiness with them by marking down the overall rating from 5 stars to 4. Here are the facts. Almost two months after the wedding, November 24, they notified us that we were due a refund of close to $1,000. It bothered me a little that it took them almost two months to figure that out because it isn't a hard calculation and should have been handled within a couple of weeks. However, it gets worse from here. Today, December 15, I realized that I still had not seen the credit come through and reached out by phone and email to inquire and ask for an immediate fix since I did not want to have to remember to keep checking up on them. Here is what I learned today, and only by asking the event staff to intervene, the credit was still waiting for a final approval by the Director of Finance. That is when I decided to post this review. In my mind, this is negligence or incompetence, and either way, it does not measure up to the standards you should expect at 5 star venues. My advice is take nothing for granted when dealing with their Accounting Department. You can't rely on them to act professionally. It is a disappointing postscript to an otherwise wonderful event. Emma DiPrizio(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 30-09-2022 My Husband and I got married here in September, 2022 and cannot say enough great things about this venue and staff! Cliff House really does a great job at communication and making sure your vision is exactly how you want it on your wedding day. They helped assist with setting up the venue perfectly, able to accommodate requests, and nothing felt like it was left up to chance. The food was incredible and my guest could not stop talking about how beautiful the space was from the outdoor cliff to the beautiful lights in the ballroom, it really is a spectacular spot for a wedding. Mackenzie Gombinski(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 31-07-2022 The Cliff House was the most amazing wedding venue I've been to. The views were gorgeous, the food was amazing, the staff was accommodating, and we received several comments about how great the entire wedding weekend was because of the Cliff House. I highly recommend this venue to anyone that is having a wedding with guest who have never been to Maine. Reviewed on 12-08-2022
Julie Boesky(other)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 22-08-2021 My daughter & son-in-law just had their wonderful August wedding at the Cliff House. Like so many couples, they had to navigate many twists and turns and a year long postponement due to Covid. We chose the Cliff House to blend our family's connection to Maine and the groom's family's love of all things beach/water, etc. This is a gorgeous wedding venue with wonderfully designed rooms and spaces so that you and your guests can be together in a stunning setting. It is pricey, but worth it if your guests are also okay with the price point. We ended up having to contend with a hurricane on the wedding day on top of it all (!), but the resort offers a lovely indoor space for ceremonies and it ended up working out just fine. We had a few minor hiccups with cocktail hour food but dinner service was fabulous, and we had superb vendors who were all familiar with the spaces which was very helpful. To be fair to prospective brides and grooms, I would note that there seems to have been a LOT of recent turnover in the on-site coordinator role. We experienced several changes over the course of our two year wedding planning experience. The banquet sales manager is now doing most of the hands-on event coordination as well - hopefully this is temporary due to covid, etc. though I don't know if that's why coordinators mentioned here in earlier reviews have left? It was my sense that the current on-site coordinators/managers are exhausted and short staffed, and that created additional stress for us in the execution of the day. We found that specific details we sorted out carefully needed to be re-visited a number of times, and that created some additional work and stress. While the banquet sales director is a very hard working and competent person, she was really stressed out on the wedding weekend, and it added to our own stress and made for a few unnecessarily bumpy hours. If you have your own outspoken well organized wedding planner/coordinator to act as your liaison and take care of details for you, you should be able to reduce stress and have a lovely event here. (We had a wonderful planner who ended up having a schedule conflict on our actual re-scheduled weekend, so we had weekend-of help from a terrific young assistant, but not quite the level of advocacy and oversight you get from someone with years of experience). As currently configured, I would not recommend relying on the in-house event coordinators alone to execute your vision here. The only other thing I would note, which I found odd, is that we received warm welcome notes and good wishes in our rooms on arrival , but no one checked in with us during not AFTER the event to congratulate our family or ask about our experience. We got an on line survey emailed to us and that was it -- I think it reflects a large corporate ownership - it seems it is not a place where you're going to have a personal phone call etc after your event. We actually saw the on site coordinator the morning after the wedding to collect the wedding cake top and she didn't ask at all about the event -- I think reflective of being overworked maybe? exhausted? In a similar vein, my daughter and son-in-law were not able to get a late checkout the morning after which led to some extra stress and scrambling before their farewell breakfast...All in all, it is a gorgeous venue - we would do it all over there in a heartbeat but I'd make sure I had my own coordinator available throughout the weekend of..... Tracey Capobianco(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 16-08-2020 Where can I begin, my husband and I started going to the Cliff House 6-7 years ago and we absolutely fell in love with it. So we would always say if we ever were to get married this would be the spot! Moving forward, he proposed and the planning begins. Everyone from management to the reservation department was so helpful and accommodating every step of the way. Then Covid hit, then date changes and postponements, but not once did they give up on us. They work will us to make sure our wedding day was perfect and that’s exactly what it was!! The food tastings, the allergy accommodations, the specialty drinks, the attention to safety and Covid protocols were amazing. A picture perfect wedding day to remember for the rest of our lives. Thank you to everyone who made it look so beautiful. Reviewed on 30-08-2020
Tracy O(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 19-04-2020 The professionalism, flexibility, and kindness we received from Cait Chapman (director of catering) from the very first email exchange is truly what made our experience with The Cliff House so enjoyable! Although we unfortunately had to cancel our April 2020 wedding due to Covid-19, the Cliff House contacted us almost daily to check-in, keep us up to date with options for rescheduling, and always remained understanding and positive throughout our wedding planning. Breathtaking views, options to accommodate any size guest list, multiple venue locations, and beautiful hotel rooms! Thank you for everything! Reviewed on 17-04-2020

We were fortunate to have our reception in the Atlantic Ballroom, which was beautiful and our ceremony/farewell brunch in the Oceanview Terrace. The spaces were beautiful and set up to specifications. It took over a year to plan and the Cliff House staff was amazing. Special shout out to Pauline Gaffney who helped us with the booking/contracting and Erin Blake who was there to make sure that all the details were executed. There were no misses on our day!The food and service were spectacular. The rooms were beautiful. Overall, we had an amazing experience and memories that will last for the rest of our lives!
