The World Renowned Degas House in New Orleans, LA, is a beautiful indoor-outdoor wedding venue that masterfully blends history with art and hospitality. This charming property is located on Esplanade Avenue, one of the quietest and most aesthetically pleasing streets in the city. Elegant and refined, it offers a one-of-a-kind setting to tie the knot
The French impressionist master, Edgar Degas, resided in The World Renowned Degas House from 1872-1873. Here, he created over 18 paintings, 4 drawings, and 5 letters that altered our understanding of art. It is a world-class venue, recently awarded the prestigious title of Maisons des Illustres "House of the Illustrious" by the French Ministry of Culture. This title is given sparingly to the most distinguished houses around the world, with the intention of preserving their political, cultural, social, and historical significance. Some of the other houses that share this title are associated with names such as Monet, Napoleon, Cartier, Yves Saint Laurent, and Jeanne d'Arc. With only one other property in the US holding this prestigious title, the house demands the highest quality of maintenance and customer service, which the staff takes great pride in delivering. Ceremonies are hosted in their French Quarter-style courtyard, beautifully paved and adorned with twinkling market lights. Here you can exchange vows before a ceremony arch decorated with a personal touch. For your reception, you can join over 300 guests in their Victorian parlors for an evening of dining and entertainment. These opulent spaces are exquisitely furnished with period-style furniture and Degas replicas. After a full day of making magical memories, you can retire to their luxurious accommodation suites to relax and recharge.
Jumpstart your special day by contacting the team at The World Renowned Degas House for a friendly consultation. They can guide you through all the packages, helping you choose one that meets your needs and budget. They accommodate all styles of ceremonies and host everything from intimate gatherings to extravagant destination weddings. Their expert planning team can assist you in organizing every aspect of your event, including your schedule, budget, decor, and much more. Catering and bar services are offered on-site with seasoned staff to wait tables and look after setup and cleanup. Free WiFi, a helpful reception area, and wheelchair access are also provided for maximum comfort and convenience.
Erica Hargis(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 13-11-2021 First, the GOOD: MISS SHARON! She gets 5 enthusiastic stars. She is an incredible chef. The food was absolutely delicious! I am a New Orleans local with Cajun blood and the food was approved by ALL including all the mommas and aunts. She looked out for us the day of the wedding. Made sure we got to eat! She runs this place like it's her own. It should be. This is a very charming setting for a day or night wedding. Great New Orleans feel for both locals and visitors. Very photogenic (when the lightbulbs aren't burnt, see below). The reception has a lot of their own chairs, tables, linens etc.. which is nice to not have to rent on your own. Otherwise it's really just a space. Now the BAD: I went through THREE different venue coordinators and finally ended up with Kathy who needs to go back to Hospitality school. She made me feel like I was part of the problem and she was truly the worst thing about my entire wedding planning process. It was my FIRST wedding. But not hers. The venue is a courtyard in between 2 old buildings with string lights. Several of the bulbs were burnt on my wedding night, which I was assured would be fixed prior to the day. And now it's in the pictures. Their outside heaters apparently weren't stored properly so they didn't have outdoor heaters for a November wedding. We had to scramble to buy lots of heaters. Please note that there is a very strict noise ordinance in the area. The volume that the music has to stay at past 9pm was laughable. Might as well just turn it off. We're in our late 30s, early 40s. We don't need a rave. Reviewed on 30-05-2023
Mollye Shacklette(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 01-04-2023 We loved Degas House! It was the perfect elegant, historic, garden party-esque, New Orleans-y venue. It fit our ~130 guests very well and they set up the ceremony and then flipped the space for cocktails and the reception flawlessly. The food was truly amazing and delicious and the dressing of the bride package was lovely and made our day of getting ready and spending time together so easy and effortless. All the staff were kind and invested in our event. David even videotaped some key events and sent them to us so we wouldn't miss some of those special moments. We appreciate all of the effort, thought, and professionalism that went into hosting a perfect event and can't wait to come back and stay at Degas House as guests! Reviewed on 08-04-2023
Alexa Gonzalez(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 11-02-2023 We absolutely loved the Degas House! Sharon's food was absolutely fantastic!!! Many of our guests complimented the food. We did the dressing of the bride which was a lot of fun. We did have a leaky roof (which is to be expected from a very old house), but they quickly repaired it. The staff was very attentive and helped our reception run smoothly. We chose 4/5 stars mostly because the communication could have been better. Many times they would get details wrong like number of guests or if we were doing both the reception and ceremony there. They were also late bringing breakfast up for Dressing of the Bride so we had to eat while our makeup team was getting us ready. Wasn't a big deal, just inconvenient. They also ensured they would have heaters if it was cold. When we asked to use them, they only had 3 heaters for 185 people... so we had to rent more last minute. Overall, we would definitely recommend Degas House! Reviewed on 12-03-2023

They are true pros who know how to put together a wedding like the backs of their hands. From the beginning, communication was thorough and prompt. We had to plan our entire event remotely due to COVID-19, and though we were a little hesitant to put down our deposit for this venue sight-unseen, I am so glad that we did, since it turned out to be everything we hoped and more. We had both our ceremony and reception here, and the flip between the two was seamless. I can't recommend the Dressing of the Bride package enough -- it was so great getting to have one last sleepover with my bridesmaids, and it made getting ready so much less stressful. I bragged to everyone about how no fuss the preparation was, since Degas House offers food and drink packages (and all my guests raved about how good the food was). In addition to all that, we always felt taken care of and looked after during our wedding. They made sure we had a moment together alone to eat before we went to greet our guests, they coordinated with and cued all of our vendors perfectly, and what's more they supplied us with a great list of folks they recommended, which made the remote planning about 100x easier.I would like to specifically thank Kathy and Sharon, the dynamic duo who made our Degas House wedding everything we dreamed and more. The venue itself is everything you would want for a NOLA wedding. naf syeed(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 04-11-2017 We had our beautiful, intimate wedding here in November 2017. We had about 115 people and probably could've accommodated another 10-15 (but more than that would've gotten too crowded.)Food: Ms. Sharon's New Orleans delicacies are hands-down amazing. The staff accommodated our request for special meat (halal) -- we told them about a local vendor and they were able to source from there directly. Our guests all raved about the food. Accommodation: We fit our sizable immediate families by booking all the rooms (minus maybe one). The staff was generous in that (and the breakfast again is amazing.) Facilities: The venue is very pretty. We were allowed to place our personal photos in frames around the inside of the house, creating an intimate feel. Some fixtures here and there were in need of repair (like some knobs and handles on the bathtub faucets; and the alarms kept going off in the night, so hopefully they've fixed that since then.)We had a second line that ran through the neighborhood and our guests loved it. The staff gave us advice on the route and how to obtain the city permit. Staff: The staff was helpful with some NOLA charm, especially June. During our planning, we did cycle cycle through three Degas House wedding planners. Hopefully, they've found someone who will stick. This caused some communication issues and inconsistencies, but come showtime things came together. Dishes: This was my biggest concern. We assumed we would be receiving the standard ceramic-type plates you get at hotels (or even a not-so-fancy buffet restaurant.) Instead, we saw our guests eating in tiny plastic-looking plates and bowls. Degas staff pointed out the contract said \"acrylic\" plates, but we didn't realize that would essentially mean heavy plastic ware. (Guests also complained that it was hard to get much on their plates.) To their credit, the staff remedied this issue later by dropping some fees. We'd just recommend clarifying what dishes you are getting. All in all, we had a very memorable and joyful wedding at Degas House. We hope they are working on restoration efforts to preserve this pretty venue. Reviewed on 16-12-2018

We chose the “Dressing of the Bride” package which really helped keep the day stress free. My bridesmaids and I got ready in two beautiful rooms in the house and were spoiled with breakfast, champagne and snacks! The Degas House did change event coordinators multiple times, but Jaynell was the final coordinator on our big day and was very helpful. She made sure we always had a drink in our hand and food at our table, and oversaw the setup and clean up of the event so we didn’t have to worry about it. I even lost a piece of wedding day jewelry and asked the Degas House staff on a whim if anyone had come across it - they had people search everywhere and found it!!! Veronica Harbison(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 03-02-2018 My wife and I were married here earlier this year, and I could not be more relieved to say that everything went *perfectly*! The food was on point, the band seemed to have plenty of space to work in, and the coordinator kept us in the loop and worked very well with Beth's Flowers, our wedding planners. They even tolerated us renting out nearly every room for the weekend with our close friends and family, and that was also a big plus. Thank you guys for everything you did for us! Anastasia Henry(other)1 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 31-10-2019 I was part of a wedding party that stayed here for a wedding in January. My friend woke up to her bag of medicine that had been eaten through by a mouse. We even saw the mouse in the corner of our room. We tried to put that past us and enjoy the day. The staff was attentive and helpful throughout the day, but the venue did not live up to the reviews. I understand it is a historical property, but the building itself needs a lot of work. As a lifer in hospitality, I was disappointed in the management response. They seemed to not care and shrugged it off as “New Orleans.” Yes, I live here and understand, but please- acknowledge that my party and I had an issue with the mouse. For what we paid, we at least should have gotten a few free bottles of water. Reviewed on 01-11-2018

It was decorated beautifully for the occasion and the food and service were absolutely outstanding! There was an extremely gifted piano player, which was suggested by the venue, who played festive holiday music throughout the evening. The venue provided for an elegant evening of socializing around the large Christmas tree just inside the main entrance as well as enjoying the outside patio and the socializing under the lights in front of the fountain. It was defiantly a memorable evening for all in attendance. Reviewed on 01-11-2018

Cynthia Espitia(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 21-10-2018 I was married at the Degas House on Sunday 10/21/2108. I had an amazing experience with Jaynell Jeanfreau and the Degas house staff. Jaynell helped me plan my dream wedding all the way from California. We did it all thru phone and email. I met her only the day before my wedding day. She walked me thru ceremony and went over every last detail. I thought I’d be a nervous wreck since I hadn’t met her in person or seen the house only in pictures. She exceeded my expectations. She was so professional and had the same vision as me. My wedding day couldn’t have been more perfect. I had a carefree day and was able to enjoy every moment with my guest. The House was beautiful and well kept. I didn’t need any decorations . the art work was a wonderful addition for our photos. I would highly recommend The Degas House for your wedding or for a tour. Laura Cherry(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 02-12-2017 Our wedding at the Degas House in December 2017 was actually picture-perfect. It was exactly what my husband and I wanted. We could not have found a more beautiful, classic New Orleans venue, paired with amazing staff and incredible food and accommodations. If you're looking for old-world, subtle elegance and knowledgeable but down-to-earth staff, look no further. The atmosphere of the Degas House is classy without being flashy, or in your face. The natural beauty of the indoor and outdoor spaces speaks for itself. We were married outside in the courtyard at 10 am, and then had a seated indoor brunch for our small wedding of about 60 people. The staff worked with us to create the wedding we wanted, even though it didn't fit into their pre-set package. The staff was incredibly accommodating, generous, and kind. They seemed to genuinely care about our happiness and making our wedding special. Our wedding coordinator was spot-on in understanding what we wanted for the ceremony and reception, and was able to handle all of the small stuff on the morning of, so that I could relax and keep my mind on the important things. Our ceremony had a few complexities, but Kira was able to direct and cue everything perfectly, every time. The food prepared by Ms. Sharon at the Degas House is truly spectacular. I haven't had better food anywhere in New Orleans. The kitchen staff was completely willing to accommodate our guests' dietary needs, from nut and tomato allergies to veganism. After the wedding, we stayed overnight in the Estelle suite, a space so opulent you feel as if you've gone back in time. It was truly unforgettable. I am so grateful to everyone at the Degas House who made our wedding such a positive and stress-free experience. We knew we were in good hands, and so we were able to relax and just enjoy our special day.If an old, historic venue is your thing, or if you want a background for a \"fairy tale\" wedding, you can't do better than the Degas House. I was once again overwhelmed by the cultural appeal, elegance and charm. The continuous professional of the staff and service is impeccable. The cuisine is some of the best in the city. I was pleasantly surprised by how little stress we experienced the day of the wedding, because everything was smoothly handled for us. Everyone was so nice and professional, and the food was amazing. It was also great to be able to have our wedding party stay on-site with us and avoid everyone running around town (especially since our wedding was during Mardi Gras season). Also, for any same-sex couples reading this, us being a lesbian couple was a complete non-issue at Degas House. Everyone was super friendly and respectful to us and our guests. Reviewed on 27-10-2018

Thankfully, my husband and I are pretty flexible and cared more that our guests from near and far had a great experience. The wedding weekend itself was completely perfect and everything we wanted. There were some hiccups—after 2 decades of managing and planning weddings, their coordinator had to retire, and the Degas House went through some difficulties replacing her 3 times in the year we were working with them. So, keep detailed notes of all of your decisions. Jaynell took over for the stretch run, and she did an amazing job of accommodating our needs and handling last minute and “day of” issues as well as making sure all of the agreements we had with previous coordinators were taken care of..Also, keep in mind that these facilities are part of a historically significant building—don’t expect modern bathrooms, or tight fitting windows, but do expect to have a great time and enjoy a beautiful property. Everyone from the owner to the house staff was very accommodating and did their best to make us comfortable and ensure we had a great time. The food was amazing and the venue is beautiful. I felt like I could be in touch about anything and she was readily there to help and always happy to do so! On the wedding day, she took care of everything throughout the day and anticipated my EVERY need, this allowed me to just enjoy the day with my family and friends and I am so grateful for her hard work! The Chef, Sharon, hosted a beautiful tasting for us prior to the wedding, we were able to taste and makes requests for every individual dish. At the wedding, she made sure every single guest was taken care of and so were we. We even had a private dinner upstairs before rejoining the party, which was a much needed moment after the ceremony. We underestimated how much we would love that moment and are very grateful for it! Our wedding was small (50 guests) and there was only one child present, Sharon let her request her own meal and cooked whatever she requested, which was so thoughtful! Generally, alongside Jaynell, she made sure every detail ran smoothly. The bar staff was also great, kind and attentive and there was enough booze for everyone. Victoria Yu(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 14-04-2018 We had an incredible wedding and absolutely suggest it as the perfect place to get married in New Orleans. But there are things we would do differently. What the Degas House got right were big wins: beautiful setting, delicious food, helpful staff, comfortable accommodations. We hosted 125 guests, with both ceremony and reception at Degas House. We used the courtyard between the two houses as an aisle and converted that outdoor area to the dance floor. Guests traveled from across the U.S. and overseas. Guests, especially those who hadn’t been to New Orleans, appreciated the venue’s beauty and historic charm. It’s a gorgeous home, perfect for pictures and mingling. Our band had plenty of room to set up with a dance floor, guests shuffled between houses and bar/buffet lines moved quickly. On our wedding day, thunderstorms flooded New Orleans. Though we thought we’d have to move the ceremony indoors, which the staff was ready to do, the rented tents worked perfectly, and water mostly drained from the outdoor areas. Our guests were impressed with the food. It was especially a treat for the out-of-towners. The staff also accommodated our requests with alcohol/mixers for the bar. On the night before the wedding, I spent the night with my bridesmaids in the Estelle Suite. On the day of the wedding, the groomsmen used the Mathilde Suite to get ready while we stayed in the Estelle Suite. These rooms were a perfect place to stay comfortable ahead of the ceremony and gave us an easy place to store things. We’d highly recommend staying at the venue the night of your wedding, as it’s a comfortable, luxurious suite. While all of these great memories will be the ones that stand out, the one main issue we had was with the sound permit for a live band to perform. We wanted a party-like atmosphere and booked a large brass band to perform, even extending the reception an extra hour to end at 11 p.m. However, we ultimately lost an hour of the reception after a neighbor called the police with a noise complaint. Our band had to end early, forcing us to miss our second line around the venue.Because of staff turnover, we worked with 4 different wedding coordinators. Those personnel changes may have caused some things to get lost in the shuffle, including perhaps the institutional knowledge of how the city’s permitting process/sound ordinances work. We got an event permit ourselves, but the city requires amplified sound to end at 10PM — the venue didn’t make that clear to us when we extended the reception until 11. If you’re planning a wedding here, you will absolutely want to get a special event permit from the city (easy to get) and plan to have everything end by 10PM. Losing that hour of our reception was a costly disappointment that could have been avoided had the venue staff more clearly understood/disclosed the city’s permitting process and sound ordinances. We started the wedding ceremony at least 30 minutes later than we planned. Though our wedding party was ready and waiting, we had to find the coordinator and prompt her to start the ceremony. Erica, our final wedding coordinator, was kind and helpful. David, the venue’s owner, was friendly and warm. Sharron was a ROCK STAR who helped keep everything going. Servers and other staff were professional and top-notch. Despite the few things we would have changed — primarily the sound permit and 10PM end time — we would absolutely recommend the Degas House as an ideal wedding venue. Reviewed on 31-05-2018
Cailidh Pedersen(bride)1 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 11-05-2019 After hosting our wedding here I would not recommend this venue. We though that having everything organized in house would reduce our stress on the big day. However, there is high turn over in their wedding department so we ended up having 4 different wedding coordinators throughout the planning process and none of them had notes from their predecessor so we had to restart each time. They also had different pricing deals each time. The last coordinator showed up the day before our wedding so she had no idea what was going on and had to interrupt precious moments with my mom, family, and new husband to ask about things like where do the sparklers go, what time do we want to cut the cake, etc. I will say the kitchen staff was amazing and it was beautiful but there are a lot of beautiful venues in NOLA that offer more value for this large investment. Now, I have to say that marrying my husband was the best decision I ever made, BUT the second best decision we made was getting married at the Degas House. Not only did the wedding exceed our expectations (because it did) but it was the most beautiful and well coordinated wedding I have ever been to (and I have been to a lot of weddings). The Event Manager, Kira is a dream. She is kind, patient, and extremely talented. She made me feel calm and confident every moment that she could (cause we all know being a bride can be stressful at times). She was honest, well organized and on top of every conversation we had together and every decision that we made. She has a great eye for the space, decor and was exactly where she needed to be during the whole ceremony and reception. Getting married can be nerve racking and stressful, but Kira was a constant source of strength. We are from Los Angeles but both my husband and I love New Orleans, so we knew it was a natural choice to get married there. Having a destination wedding can be scary and all of our decisions were made sight unseen. But with Kira, I never doubted for a second our decision for venue. There are some great venues in New Orleans, but none have the beauty, charm, history or amazing staff like the Degas House. There is truly something magical, unique and beautiful about it!Oh yeah, AND THE FOOD!!! Sharon, thank you Sharon! Trust me when I say that having your wedding at the Degas House you and your guests will be blown away. Sharon's food is like eating the most delicious home cooked meal you have ever had and sharing it with all of your family and friends. We had over 90 guests and (not kidding) every guest said not only was it the best wedding food, but just one of the best meals they had in New Orleans (and that is saying something). Sharon made sure my husband and I had our own plate of appetizers and made sure we had food in front of us at dinner! Sharon and her team go above and beyond! The wedding was as close to perfect as it could be. So many of our guests told us that we ruined future weddings for them. The room was perfect. Spacious. Comfortable. Classic. The balcony was gorgeous! We all had our hair and makeup done and the natural lighting was perfect! My mother booked the adjoining Josephine room, which worked out great for adding a little extra space the day of the wedding! The snacks were delicious and of course the champagne was a great touch! I cannot say enough about Kira the event coordinator. I could not have pulled off the wedding without her! She truly ran the show and made sure every detail was taken care of. I did not have a worry in the world with Kira by my side! The ceremony and reception were in the courtyard and Oh My Goodness was it beautiful!!!! We had an evening wedding on a Thursday with only lanterns as decoration and it was seriously all we needed because the venue is that amazing! And the food... the food... so good!!!! Remember, this was a destination wedding, we did not get the chance to revisit New Orleans for a sampling, so we went on Kira's guidance and our friend's and family's preferences... we were not disappointed!!!! Oh, and the staff! Sharon and everyone else working that night thank you so so so so so much! My plate was made for me and my glass of wine was always full! I highly recommend staying in the Estelle suite the night before the wedding with your bridesmaids so you all can wake up and have a nice breakfast before hair and makeup without having to worry about meeting at a certain time on the day-of or forgetting anything due to being in a rush. We had plenty of time to go through our things the night before to make sure we had everything we needed, as well as a spacious room with space enough for 10+ women getting ready. My husband and I also stayed the night in that room, so from the night before to the ceremony to the reception, we didn’t have to go anywhere and it was super convenient! Our only job was to be directed by Kira, our wonderful coordinator, who made sure we were where we needed to be according to our timeline. I chose this venue because of the rich history and old New Orleans character and charm, and it did not disappoint. Amanda Liles(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 12-08-2017 For my review of Degas House, I will list/review in separate sections the planning aspect and the actual wedding weekend. My overall review reflects the experience that I had over the course of the planning timeline. Planning with Degas: We are a couple living in Paris that wanted to gather our families in a beautiful place that celebrates both French and American culture. New Orleans was that place for us, and we just knew after our visit with the Degas House and Cindy (one of the previous coordinators) that Degas House was the perfect place for us. The tasting with Ms. Sharon and her kitchen staff was a wonderful experience (done while we were in Alabama with my family for Christmas) and Cindy's hospitality in person was unmatched. The other parts of planning were exponentially more difficult. We would go days or weeks without hearing from Cindy around the middle of the timeline for our wedding. In one instance, we hadn't heard from her for two weeks and we called Degas to check in. As it turns out, Cindy had been let go and no one had informed us. This was upsetting, but another coordinator named Shawne came in and helped us reorganize the wedding and get everything in order over the course of a few days. She was great at communication and made the process much easier for us. We were happy with this coordinator, but apparently she was having trouble with the Degas House staff behind the scenes and left the week before our wedding. You can imagine how difficult this was, as we were almost finished with our planning/coordination and now had to start over at the end with yet another coordinator. There was a lot of stress and tears, but we were reassured by the staff that everything was being reviewed in our file and that the entire team would take over our wedding (along with Kira, the new coordinator). David, the owner, made himself available for everything leading up to the wedding and gave us his personal cell number to make sure that we were kept happy and stress-free as much as possible. The Wedding Week/Wedding: This is where the 5-star review comes in. The team (Ms. Sharon, David, and Kira) met with us for several hours when we arrived in New Orleans a few days before the wedding. We reviewed everything together, promises were made, and we left much happier than when we arrived (it was pretty devastating to go through). David made it possible for us to move in early on Friday so that we could be ready for the people checking in. The experience from that point on was just absolutely incredible. I (we) felt completely taken care of by the staff and especially the new coordinator Kira. She is an absolute gem and did great on her first wedding! If you want to book your wedding with Degas, don't hesitate to do it now. They seem to be over the coordinator rough patch and Kira is an absolute treasure that would like to make her career with Degas. She was attentive and sweet and made both us and my family/friends feel special. People were bragging on not only the location/party (which was GORGEOUS, just absolutely stunning), but on Kira! She made sure we were fed and sheltered from anything crazy going on behind the scenes. I was one blindingly happy bride thanks to her. David also got behind the bar that night and helped serve drinks when he noticed everyone was swamped with guests! Sharon's food was amazing, and even our pickiest eaters enjoyed her menu. In the end, it was a perfect and I mean PERFECT wedding! Reviewed on 31-08-2017
Claudia Gutierrez-Smith(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 11-11-2017 This review is 6 months late, but still well deserved. We were married in February 2017, at the very start of Mardi Gras. Having visited many venues up and down and all around New Orleans, The Degas House was a last minute and most welcoming addition. From that first meeting with Cindy we felt at home in New Orleans, and knew this was exactly the hospitality we wanted to extend to our guests. We were on a budget, knowing we wanted to host our guests for 4 days of varied events, to really give them a taste of New Orleans, and the Degas House made that possible. It is a 1-stop shop for cocktails and reception, amazing indoor and outdoor layout, home made local cuisine, and a hospitable staff. I found photos of many types of weddings here - from highly elegant to colorful and unique, we opted for an elegant 'backyard' wedding, showcasing the beauty of the space itself. Madeline Doyle(groom)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 28-04-2018 Mother of the Bride here. Our daughter and her fiance live in China and wanted to come \"home\" to Louisiana and New Orleans for their wedding, as they both have family and school ties to the area. They wanted an authentic and unique New Orleans venue, as guests came from 3 continents, five countries and 17 states to attend the wedding. Originally the bride and groom estimated 35 people would come, the guest list rsvps were at 120. The Degas House was the perfect venue for their wedding. They are able to accommodate any number of guests from small to large. We love that this is a Non profit Foundation, and historical home, in a unique New Orleans neighborhood. Kudos to Miss Cindy Hoerner, our wedding coordinator, and everyone on staff for pulling everything together for the ceremony and reception. Miss Sharon's appetizers and dinner were absolutely delicious and we had so many options to choose from. Miss Cindy's expertise was so valuable: the day before the wedding she was able to find wonderful hair and makeup people when the original person cancelled. She also recommended a \"sparkler special send-off\" with a pedicab exit for the Bride and Groom. Fabulous. Miss Cindy was also quite adept at dealing with a Mom in California and the Bride in China, while working with a short planning time frame. The house and courtyard photograph beautifully. We highly recommend the bridal preparation package in the Estelle suite. A bonus was the delicious lunch included with that package. Perfect for the bride and bridesmaids, and the balcony was a great place for photos. And it's a beautiful room for the bride and groom to stay in after the wedding. We also booked the Mathilde suite for the groom and his groomsmen, which worked well for them, too. In closing, the highest compliment I can give to the staff at Degas House, is that, from the moment I arrived until after the sparkler send off, 8 hours later, we thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our daughter's wedding. And, as we had hoped, our guests were blown away by the venue, the wonderful food, great music and the hospitality at Degas House. Down to an impromptu second line after the party was dying down. Her and the rest of the staff made this day EFFORTLESS! Everything fell into place and everyone left the evening with smiles on their face. When things went array (like our pedal cab not showing up or my lack of a voice on the day of) she was on it and made arrangements without us even having to worry. Lastly, the Degas House is the one-stop-shop for everything you need. Food, planner, accommodation, and a postcard perfect backdrop. Our 112 guests still talk about how great the food was. Amanda Patterson(bride)3 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 17-10-2015 Eva was awesome and a huge part of my decision to book with Degas House. Unfortunately, she had to retire before my wedding. Her replacement, Flora, was fine. I had no issues with her and she did a great job of coordinating my wedding on the day of.After my wedding, I was pressured into writing a 5 star review. I told Flora that I couldn't honestly give them 5 stars because I was a little peeved that they had charged me an 18% gratuity for both the cost of the food and the bar; and then the bartenders had out tip jars so my wedding guests felt obligated to tip not knowing I had already paid that 18% gratuity. Flora was understanding and offered me $150 back and a 4 night stay \"to use when [we] are back in town\". There was no contingency attached. I thought that was a fair offer and I wrote the 5 star review. In general, I was very pleased with my wedding.Fast forward to this week -- it has been an absolute nightmare dealing with their current staff trying to get them to honor the offer that Flora made me. At first Cindy told me that they are booked for Thanksgiving weekend, which I could see from their website was not true. When I pushed the issue, she clarified that the rooms are not actually reserved yet but they expect to fill them up for the dates I asked for. She also made it a point to tell me that Flora doesn't work there anymore, as if they are not obligated to honor the offer she made me and they are going above and beyond by offering me anything at all. I pushed back again saying that Flora's offer made no contingency based on Holiday weekends or special events, and since she knew we lived in Alaska when she made the offer it is not reasonable to expect that we would ever be in the area over a non-holiday. She then tells me that they have several FEMA guests staying with them. I have no idea why she brought that up other than to deceive me, because the room I want is STILL available to reserve over the website so obviously even with the FEMA guests, the rooms are not actually full. I told her I don't understand what that has to do with them treating my request differently than someone booking over the website. She said that the owner said to check back a week before and they will know more then. I told her that was unacceptable because what she was suggesting is considerably less valuable than what Flora had offered me. Her response to that made the following points: (1) How dare I suggest that they put out their FEMA guests (\"It seems by putting a family with 4 small children and a family with special needs children out on the street or in a shelter is okay.\" To be clear, I never came close to making that suggestion. All I wanted was the room still available on the website.) and (2) I should have told Flora about the tip jars during the wedding. This has been one of the most bizarre and deceptive customer service experiences of my life and I have no idea why an organization would feel that they are not obligated to honor an offer made by their employee just because she no longer works there. Oh, and I never got my $150 either.UPDATE: After I filed a complaint with the BBB, the owner called me directly and allowed me to use the offer for the dates I requested. He seems like a very nice and reasonable man that was just out of the loop. Apparently Cindy is the only problem. I can't justify giving more than 3 stars because of how stressful and difficult it was interacting with Cindy, but at least it's not the entire staff. Reviewed on 28-10-2015
