We spoke to so many people and she was so different from the start. She was friendly, welcoming, and immediately came across as wanting to help us however she could. From the First visit we fell in love and knew this is where we had to get married. Driving down the beautiful Oak lined drive was breathtaking and the grounds and house were so welcoming and gorgeous. The Moment we spoke to Mrs. Perkins we were blown away by how friendly and welcoming she was. Desert Plantation is gorgeous and Perfect for both having a ceremony and reception. That and the people we would be working with were so amazing and friendly just sealed the deal for us. Mrs. Perkins and her staff are beyond amazing and we really can't speak highly enough of them. You will feel like you are working with family the whole time, it was so wonderful and comforting and they are that way. Mrs. Perkins cares so much about the success of each wedding and the happiness of the bride and groom, and you can see that in all she and her staff does. We picked to have the weekend package and it was so wonderful staying in the house before the wedding day. There is honestly very little you need to do in the way of decorations, because the grounds and house are so beautiful. The staff at desert Set up all the chairs for us, tables, and linens, they were also out there early the day of the wedding cleaning up, blowing leaves and making things look their best. The day of was so beautiful, the whole grounds, the house, everything was amazing. Looking out of the windows while I had my hair and makeup done and just seeing all those beautiful oak trees and that lovely moss hanging and moving in the wind was so beautiful and relaxing. All the girls had a blast getting ready upstairs too. The coordinator we worked with at Desert Plantation was amazing as well and she helped more than I can ever say. We also picked the option of eating upstairs after the ceremony, just my groom and I. It was great to catch a breath and enjoy each others company before going downstairs and joining the reception. From the time I could talk to our guests, everyone and I mean everyone said how beautiful and perfect a wedding it was. I thought at first people were just being nice but they all genuinely meant what they were saying. Everyone loved walking around the grounds and the house and just the whole atmosphere. It really was a perfect day in every way. That night We choose to stay at the house just the Groom and I before heading out for our honeymoon the next day. It was so nice to relax on the porch after the wedding and have the whole place to ourselves. I could not get over how stress free the day was and trust me we had plenty to get stressed about. But being there, knowing you have such wonderful and kind people helping you out, there's something about that just set us at ease. You really feel like you step into this other time or place all together. We even had our wedding in December and everything was still so alive and green outside. As a photographer who has photographed many weddings, I highly recommend getting married at Desert Plantation. It's hard to describe how beautiful this place is, and the pictures don't do it justice- it's a must-see. When I drove up the dirt driveway for the first time, I was astounded at how MANY of the huge live oak trees there were! The house is gorgeous inside and out and still has many of the antique, authentic furniture pieces in it. I love the outdoor wedding site at sunset- the lighting is perfect for pictures.\r\rInside and outside during the reception, the wedding guests have lots of room to spread out if they'd like to, and also a nice large outdoor dance floor if they want to party down. There is plenty of room inside and out, so even if it's cold or hot outside, the \"flow\" for guests is not crammed, which I think is VERY important for a wedding. \r\rThe owners are SO gracious, nice, and easy to get in touch with, and they're on site at every wedding to make sure things go well. During portrait sessions and weddings, they're not strict about the time limits we have to use the place, which is much appreciated!\r\rDesert Plantation is the real thing- a romantic, authentic plantation venue. There are LOTS of places to get great photographs, it's easy for guests to make themselves at home and spread out, and there's never a crammed area with a waiting line during weddings. I highly recommend the South Louisiana plantation wedding experience at Desert Plantation from the photographer's point of view! Tara Marie Photography Reviewed on 19-08-2011

Sonnier Sibley(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 09-04-2011 This place combined the wonderful atmosphere of a Southern Plantation with gorgeous trees lining the driveway and a place where you can tailor everything to be exactly how youve always envisioned it. The owner of the plantation actually grew up in the plantation and it has been in her family since it was built - history that made me love the place even more. One of my favorite things though was that it was as commercial as most of the plantations in Louisiana are, this was a couple who was happy in their marriage and would do anything to make your day special. They certainly go the extra mile and I would recommend this place to everyone. It was just perfect!\r\rI just want to add that I had read many reviews, including the bad one on here, and I have no idea where she is coming from. Everything in the package was perfectly outlined in her packages. Also, my fiance and I worked with a catering company and Miss Willia agreed to let us use whoever we wanted so that we could get extra discounts and then she subtracted those costs from her package. For example, in her bar package it includes alcohol, mixers, glasses, bartenders, the table for the bar and linens. However, we wanted to buy all our own liquor, hire our own bartenders and they brought all the glassware and Miss Willia recalculated the package price to reflect what we didn't need. On the other hand, there are also discounts availble if you use the vendors that she reccomends, for instance we used the florist she recommended (Beverely Walker - who was amazing and new exactly what worked because she has done many weddings there) and Miss Willia knocked off another $500 because Beverely was setting up and taking down all the flowers. Also, I know that other reviewer said she was \"blindsided\" by an additional price for the reception and staying extra days but it clearly states on her packages that she hands out in a nicely organized folder to EVERY bride that there is an extra $300 charge to hold a reception dinner at the plantation and the weekend package does cost more, which includes either one or two overnight stays. \r\rI am still in contact with Bill and Willia, the owners, and they constantly check up on us. We have made friends with them and they truely went out of their way to accomadate every crazy dream I came up with - which I truely appreciated! They also kept in touch with a quite demanding and detailed-orientated MOH as well as a MOB, both of which lived out of state and Miss Willia stayed on top of communicating everything to both of them so they felt part of everything. Really there is nothing negative I could say about this venue and the people and the same goes for every one of my guests and both sets of parents. In fact the word everyone used to describe our wedding was \"magical\" and that was a lot to due with how wonderful the location was. Reviewed on 05-05-2011
