Holly Mather(wedding party)1 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 30-12-2017 Safety issue ... not reception relatedWe have been staying here for years when going to the hospital for my dad … but this past stay will be the last. We stayed Wednesday for a check out on Friday. My mom was not happy with the room we were put in a 6th floor handicapped room. I didn't love the room but could make do. Remote for one tv not working was something I could ignore, she was upset with bathroom and closet only equipped for handicapped but what happened in the early am was horrible but most alarming was the hotel management attitude. On Friday about 5 am, after a 4:30 wakeup call that we never received (due to the power outage) we were preparing to go to the hospital in the dark. The problem: No electricity because something happened with power, supposedly in the area, and the hotel's generator was not working. I left my parents with my cellphone flashlight and left the blind open in the front room to look for any light (from hotel staff, etc) from the atrium ... nothing When we left about 5:30 still no staff in sight or light, so we ventured down the hallway past the elevators not working and entered the dark emergency stairwell (I assume there is emergency lighting but that it works on the generator???) .. that's right no lights for 6 floors other than from my cell phone flashlightFortunately we got to the hospital safely and my dad had his procedure ... we then went back to the hotel which fortunately had power. My mom was reporting the incident to a woman I presume was the manager on duty and I was in the background paying little attention until I heard the woman say the loss of power was beyond their control .... that set me off. I then spoke out that although area power failure is beyond their control, the generator not working was certainly solely their problem and more importantly the lack of what I consider proper emergency procedures were appalling. A man standing to the side of the woman introduced himself as something like chief of engineering and reiterated that it was beyond their control (which I don't agree with regarding the generator and of course their lack of a backup emergency plan) and that people were in place which I fervently reassured him was not the place. Not only was there never any sign of life (by light or voice on our floor) from hotel staff but from the 6th floor looking down to the lobby only traces of light were noticed on the ground floor and when we entered the stairwell again no light other then my cell phone flashlight and no sounds from anyone other than me and my parents .. Being from Florida emergency plans have always been something that are drilled at work and I work in an office (not a hotel or other industry serving and responsible for the safely of large numbers of people). I was appealed by the lack of any action plan but much later I was irate by the hotel's nonchalant attitude about 8 floors of hotel guests ... left in the dark possibly trying to check out with luggage (fortunately not our situation) with only a unlit stairwell with no light (no window that I could note at 5ish in the morning ).Save yourself the money and stay somewhere where your safety is taken into consideration. Anyone who knows of a hotel in this area convenient to the hospital I would love the suggestion before our next trip in April Reviewed on 30-10-2016
