General Warren is a bed and breakfast wedding and venue located in Malvern, PA. The 18th-century manor is renowned for its world-class cuisine and refined interior design. Centuries of American history surround this local landmark and your wedding could be part of it.
The inn was founded in 1745 as a tribute to two British naval officers and was used as a meeting place for the army. During the American Revolution, there was a minor scuffle at the inn on the night of the Battle of Paoli, but it was resolved peacefully. It became a haven for farmers on the route between Philadelphia and Lancaster, and due to its prime location, served as the local post office. It was around this time that the building was named The General Warren Tavern in honor of Dr. Joseph Warren. Warren was an American hero who was killed at the Battle of Bunker Hill. A lull in business during the 19th century left the inn in poor condition, but with the rising automobile industry, it regained its old fame. In 1984, the owners lovingly restored the property to its 18th-century grandeur, carrying out improvements into the early 21st century. Today, the establishment reflects a charming blend of colonial elegance and modern comforts.
Tucked away among vibrant foliage, the property’s grounds feature sculpted gardens with soothing fountains. Adjacent to the main building is the Spring House, a 250-year old structure with an outdoor terrace. Inside, the restaurant and tavern are designed in an early American theme, with rich, dark wood and inviting hearths. The Warren Tavern was opened in 2005 in the former spot of the original 1745 tavern. Each of the inn’s eight guestrooms is individually decorated and showcases its own historic flair. Couples may retire to one of the enchanting suites for a romantic wedding night.
The inn generally accommodates weddings of 130 guests, but upon special arrangements, it may host up to 150 attendees on weekends. Several event spaces are available, from the sophisticated dining rooms to the tranquil terrace. Couples frequently choose to hold both their ceremony and reception on site, though the staff is well versed in organizing reception-only events. Catering is provided in one of two options, a plated dining service or a number of stations for larger events. The personnel is also happy to arrange intimate gatherings in a private dining room. Each wedding held here is overseen by the facility’s professional event planning team, ensuring that the day is organized to match the happy couple’s vision.
Emily Hanson(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 09-07-2022 The General Warren was amazing, the perfect venue choice for our wedding. We were planning an event for a smaller crowd, under 50 people, and we were having trouble finding venues that didn’t require higher guest counts or food/beverage minimums than would make sense for our guest list, so when we found the General Warren, it was the perfect fit! Working with Patrick was so easy, he has tons of experience in putting these weddings together and keeping them moving throughout the event, the minimum commitments were very reasonable, the food and staff service were incredible and very elegant, the cake by their pastry chef Andy was both beautiful and so delicious, and above all, the whole experience was as stress-free as I think an event like this can be. And we had rain on the wedding day! But we had an indoor backup location for peace of mind, and when it looked like the rain was going to clear in time, Patrick was on top of the radar and gave us the all clear for an outdoor ceremony - and it all worked out perfectly!I’m so happy we found and went with the General Warren for our wedding. Patrick and everyone working there are absolutely wonderful, and I was so grateful for their experience with weddings like mine, they all made it so easy to make sure everything was covered and that the day was a success. And my parents were shocked at what a good deal it all was! Incredible food and service for a very reasonable price, and overall a wonderful, beautiful day for us and all of our guests. Christine Lewin(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 02-07-2022 I can't say enough wonderful things about the General Warren. We just had our wedding there last weekend, using their intimate wedding package, and if I had it to do again I wouldn't change a single thing. The food is fantastic, and they made our cake in-house. The price was perfect; it was like taking our family out for dinner and drinks. There are eight hotel suites upstairs, and our wedding booked them all. They were clean and so comfortable, furnished with antiques. My hair and makeup artist came and did all my preparations in our suite. We had the entire property to ourselves for a lot of the weekend because they are only open for dinner. The venue is meticulously maintained, so our photos look gorgeous. Patrick, the owner, is very easy to work with and answered all of my anxious bride emails quickly. The feedback from our families was mostly, \"Wow, how did you find this place? It's amazing!\" Every single staff member I talked to, from the owner to the bar tenders to the waitstaff and the woman in charge of hospitality was professional and warm. We also enjoyed the breakfast pastries in the mornings (made to order so they come out nice and hot)! The morning after our wedding, my new husband and I went back to the ceremony site for a few minutes alone and he said that we should come back for anniversary dinners in the coming years. I can't think of anything more perfect. If you have a wedding with 50 or fewer guests in the area, I can't recommend this place enough. Our wedding ran perfectly and smoothy and our families were very well taken care of all weekend! Reviewed on 08-07-2022

The wedding was surrounded by beautiful trees and plants, which were great for photos. Our cocktail hour was in their downstairs bar area which was also perfect. Our reception was in their upstairs restaurant area. And our dancing was done in one of their other rooms. We got so many compliments on food. It was amazing. Also, the entire wedding party was able to stay in their upstairs suites so no one was late for the bid day :). The staff was very nice and sweet, and professional. We had over 2 dozen guests from out of town and this was our first experience dining at this establishment. From the first conversation with Patrick about the planning of the actual rehearsal on the grounds to choosing a customized menu for our event with Tim we were met with a pleasant, accommodating experience! Our guests were very pleased with the beauty of the grounds and restaurant... we had a lovely private cocktail reception on the beautiful outdoor Spring House terrace (the girls just loved the darling little stone house beside the terrace!) which became the site for a number of photos. Our bartender was very friendly and kind as were the ladies who served such delicious appetizers as the prime rib fingers and the garlic/fennel sticks with lobster cream sauce.Afterwards, we all ascended upstairs to dine in the bright and airy North Room which overlooks the terrace area and our guests were very impressed with their starters (particularly the snapper turtle soup and the french onion bisque...just amazing!)Our guests loved all the generously portioned entrees, including the grilled swordfish with blueberry salsa and filet mignon as well as the Jaeger Schnitzel, asparagus and mushroom risotto and the wonderful pan seared scallops. And no one turned turned down a chance to sample the lovely assortment of desserts including chocolate and raspberry mousses as well as sorbet and ice cream...so yummy! We would like to thank our wonderful waitress Celeste, who was a joy to work with...so calm, pleasant and personable, for providing us with a memorable experience that we will remember for years to come. The bride and groom loved it so much that they are planning on returning for their first anniversary! All in all, I highly recommend the General Warren for a welcoming experience in a charming, tasteful setting with a great staff and delicious food and spirits! The Inne took care of setting up decorations we brought, handled the food, the cake, and the bar. All we had to do was collect decorations at the end. The day itself ran so smooth and Tim made sure everything went well. There were a few hiccups like massive rain and my arch being too tall. We got married here on 8/11/18 and our wedding was everything we envisioned and more. Patrick and his staff provide top notch, professional service!!I researched a lot of venues and read all the reviews. The General Warren had great reviews so I reached out for more information. Patrick responded promptly and answered all my questions. I made an appointment to stop in and take a tour. From the moment I walked in the door, I was hooked. I knew this was the place for us. Patrick has the wedding process down to a science. For us, the planning couldn’t have been easier with his help. He provided us with all the important information to review and make decisions. I loved the flexibility we had with the day, size, room choices, on site wedding option, suites, vendors, etc. I actually chose my photographer and florist from a list of recommended vendors Patrick provided. While I called several, ultimately, I chose vendors from his list. The food, OH the FOOD!! The food deserves its own paragraph. We had LOTS of options to choose from for the cocktail reception, salads, entrees and desserts. We didn’t have a wedding cake but rather went with 5 dessert choices which were all delicious in their own right!! The food was excellent and our guests are still talking about how good it was.It rained on our wedding day but that didn’t dampen our spirits. Patrick had a plan b for our ceremony in case of rain. His answer was always “we will make it happen!” and they did! They took care of every detail from beginning to end and I wouldn’t have changed a thing!! Our wedding was perfect thanks to Patrick and his staff. We spent the night in the Presidential Suite which is lovely and were treated to a great breakfast the following morning before we left. My daughter and new husband live abroad, so as the mother of the bride I was responsible for all the planning. Patrick was a great sounding board and provided guidance regarding menu planning, decor, ceremony options and accommodations. He and his pastry chef helped us create the most beautiful and delicious cake and took the stress out of ordering it from a bakery and transporting it. The food was spectacular and our guests could not say enough about the generous portions, the creatively prepared entrees, and the availability of hors d'oeuvres during the cocktail hour. Several people remarked that they were so good that they were almost too full for their meal. Additionally the wine list is excellent and the quality and variety of beer and spirits was impressive. The bartenders ensured that everyone got what they ordered as soon as they ordered it. You can't beat the setting. We had the event Saturday afternoon which meant we had the entire site to ourselves. Our guests were free to mingle at the bar and on the outside deck and grounds. We had the main dining room for the meal and the smaller dining room at the back of the property for the cake display and photo booth. The service was impeccable. The team made sure that glasses were continuously filled, appetizers were abundant, plates were cleared timely and they paid special attention to ensure the bride and groom had time to themselves and got something to eat amidst the festivities. Patrick was very diligent with his emailing and fine attention to detail throughout the entire planning process. I have no idea how many couples he deals with at once, but Patrick has a way of making you feel important among the rest.We had a Saturday afternoon wedding at the General Warren. So we stayed the night before and stayed night of in their beautiful and unique rooms, which really helped with my stress level. Both innkeepers are absolutely delightful. They also made sure we had coffee and something to eat both mornings. Patrick was there coordinating that morning, making sure everything went smooth amongst the chaos of getting ready. And the rain held off just in time for us to have our ceremony outdoors!During the wedding and reception, Patrick and the staff at the General Warren were absolutely wonderful and completely experienced. I worked with Tim, one of the managers and the events coordinator, and he just made everything so easy. The decor is so beautiful from the gardens to the fireplaces to the mahogany bar, I barely did anything to dress it up! Candlelight in the dining room gives it such a romantic ambiance! The food was delicious. Everyone enjoyed the cocktails and the pork roast at dinner got a lot of compliments. Missy, the pastry chef, decorated my wedding cake to match my dress and she did a wonderful job!\r\rYou also get the most bang for your buck here. There's a very small vendor fee compared to the $3,000 most venues wanted just to step foot into the place. Since I was on a budget, Tim worked with me to put together a lovely buffet and passed hors d'oeuvres were phenomenal! I still get compliments on cocktail hour and the hors d'oeuvres! We had our wedding at the end of September so the weather was perfect for an ceremony in the garden and cocktails on the outdoor patio.\r\rThe only thing that might be a drawback is that if you have more than maybe 70 guests at your wedding you have to spread the guests out over two dinning rooms, but I didn't mind because no one wants to watch me eat anyway! If you want a unique place (not another ballroom) with great food, great service that just seems to naturally embrace you--this is it! Thank you, GWI and staff for taking care of us!
