Elegant Wedding Barn-largest for social distancing
We are a hidden gem, nestled into our tiny community of Old Cottage Grove which was settled in 1843. Our historic, white, Gothic arched dairy barn is the icon of Cottage Grove and sits on 5 acres of green grass, pastures, emblematic oak trees, and overlooks a valley with stunning sunsets. Our elegant barn is second to none with beauty, a brand-new outdoor ceremony site, indoor ceremony option, a gorgeous bridal suite, masculine groom's suite, heat and air-conditioning for year round events, a game room, outdoor game space, capacity from 100-500 guests, and much more. Now with social distancing, we are the largest indoor/outdoor venue so you can still have a larger event if you wish.
This venue is beautiful and was everything I could have hoped for! The entire process was organized, professional and timely. The venue is spacious and comfortable and the bride/grooms suites are perfect for getting ready and pictures. The oustide spaces offer a wide variety of picture locations We had great success with the venue's preferred vendors and Jennifer (manager) was always available for questions. The bridal suite is large with great seating and the groomsmen stayed happy & occupied with the TV's and games in the game room. Cassie Tietz(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 08-10-2021 We loved having our wedding at Furber! Wayne, Angi and Dianna were all easy to work with. When we originally booked, we were required to use A'Britin Catering, but they have since changed this requirement. We ended up using Tinucci's catering and we loved that! The barn is beautiful, the rooms to get ready in are great, too! I think they have two items that could be improved on. One would be adding an all-around sound system inside the barn. There are two large speakers that face towards the head table, and that is it. We heard from so many guests at tables on either end of the barn, that they had a hard time hearing speeches. We think adding some mini speakers around the barn would be greatly beneficial! Also having taller chairs in the bridal suite would help out the hair and makeup folks! Overall, I am so happy to have had my wedding at Furber; it was a dream come true and I would recommend it to everyone! We received so many compliments about it and how naturally beautiful it was. I was blown away not only at the venue (which was spectacular) but also at how helpful Angi and Wayne were. From vendor recommendations to helping with our table layouts and executing a beautiful wedding, Furber Farm was perfect. We have received SO many compliments from our guests about how amazing the venue was. We had our ceremony in the grass, our cocktail party in the back patio and the reception and dancing inside the barn and everyone mentioned how because of that split, it felt like we had 3 totally different spaces for each part of the night. From a bride's perspective, the get ready rooms were perfect and beautiful with great lighting and lots of mirrors. The venue itself has great landscaping so there's great backdrops for pictures all around the barn PLUS they have lots of land with some forest and some fields to make for great sunset pictures. Rachel Hoverstad(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 24-07-2021 Furber Farms far exceeded any expectations we had for a wedding venue. From the very beginning of the process, the team at Furber was flexible and worked with us and our busy schedules to discuss logistics. They spent time with us to answer our questions, discuss options, and help us imagine our wedding within their venue. It is evident that the team has put care, intention, and heart into this venue. They recently created a new ceremony space which we were thrilled to use. The new site includes a paved pathway making it easy for guests to navigate while still keeping the feel of a wide open outdoor venue. Two highlights of this venue include the catering and the bar. Adagio DJ is Furber's exclusive DJ. They were fantastic to work with and since this partnership is exclusive, their staff is well-versed in adjusting the sound system both outside and within such a spacious and airy venue. This was especially important to us during ceremony and toasts/speeches so that guests were not straining to hear - regardless of where they were seated. Another exclusive vendor at Furber was Tinucci's bar. They are incredibly easy to work with and very flexible. They, too, are quite familiar with the set-up and made coordinating a breeze. Though Furber does include these two convenient exclusive vendors - we were able to select any vendor we wanted for catering. We loved having the flexibility to shop around and try different types of food to decide what worked for us. We ended up selecting Baba's Catering with absolutely delicious Mediterranean cuisine. Furber's indoor space was spacious enough to fit all of our 250 guests while still affording space for two buffet lines to get our guests through in a timely manner. Our guests were wined and dined efficiently with seamless flow.Logistics aside - we chose Furber based on feel. We absolutely loved the spacious fields and open view that surround the barn, the stunning white exterior, and the elegant interior of the barn. Because the indoor space has a full set of handmade tables, beautiful top to bottom hardwood, and ambient chandelier lighting, our decoration needs were minimal. We loved that there were sizable men's and women's \"getting ready\" areas as well as a game room to use for a stress-free and enjoyable morning. Beyond the specifics of the decor and amazing set-up at Furber - we realized during our wedding just how much we loved the two levels of the barn. We utilized both the lower and upper level seating areas and were taken aback as we looked up during toasts/speeches and during our grand entrance to see our friends lining the banister cheering us on. Because of the set-up in the barn - we truly felt surrounded by those we love most. The two levels again provided an unexpected favorite memory of the evening. Our photographer led us to the upper level during the dance so that we could take a moment to watch our guests joyfully dance with each other. We watched as our worlds were blending. Friends of friends were dancing together, our parents dancing with one another, people who hadn't met until our bachelor/ette parties were now singing together at the top of their lungs - and at Furber, we had the perfect vantage point to see it all. We truly enjoyed every minute of our wedding day and cannot imagine it being anywhere else but Furber Farms. Thank you to Angi, Wayne, and Diana for providing the most special space for us to celebrate the most special day of our lives. Reviewed on 23-08-2021

Maggie Joyce(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 12-10-2019 Wow, I don't know where to begin when I start typing this review. If you are looking for a rustic, beautiful, and barn styled venue, then John P. Furber Farm is the place for you. There are many barn venues in Minnesota, but what makes John P. Furber Farm, so unique from the other venues is the owners Angi and Wayne Butt. No words can truly express my gratitude and appreciation for them and the other staff at John P. Furber Farm. When I booked my venue back in February 2018, the second I walked through the door, I was greeted with a big smile. Angi is one of the warmest and welcoming people I have ever met. She makes you feel right at home the second you step through their beautiful doors. John P. Furber Farm was the perfect venue for our wedding day!! The barn was easy to decorate because it is so gorgeous you don't need to add much. Throughout the whole night of the wedding, our guests could not get over how breathtaking the venue was. Guests were also fans of the kids and the game room (which is a massive bonus if you are planning on having kids and high schoolers at your wedding). Another beautiful feature of the barn is the bridal suite. Oh my goodness, I have never seen such a stunning place!! It was a fantastic space to get ready, enjoy a mimosa, and take pictures. The barn is full of perfect spots for photos, but my favorites were on the stairs with the wedding party coming down. We had the most magical and perfect wedding day, and it is all because we chose to have our day at John P. Furber Farm. I cannot rave enough about Angi and Wayne. Yes, we only knew each other through emails (which they respond to ASAP, like you ask a question and they get back to you within hours, none of this waiting days to hear back), open houses, and final walkthrough but by the end of our wedding journey, they felt like family. Seriously, they both have hearts of gold. For example, one day, my mom and I were driving passed the venue because it is so beautiful, and I wanted to get some ideas for my upcoming wedding. Wayne saw us outside, and immediately walked over to our car and started talking with us. He told us to come in and take measurements or do whatever we needed to do. We said no, we are just looking because we love the venue so much. Wayne proceeded to spend over an hour talking to us, and it even was raining! Who does that? Oh yeah, the staff at John P. Furber Farm because they ACTUALLY care about you and want your day to be as beautiful as you have dreamt it! Another example of their kindness is when we got to the barn on our wedding day. My family was helping bring in decor and other items we needed for setting up, and here comes Wayne and one of his friends to help us unload and get the pieces into the barn. He did not have to do that, but because he cares about his brides, grooms, and their families, he wanted to make sure he could do whatever he could to make the day easier on us. Angi and Wayne are delightful owners who love what they do. They care for people and want to make your wedding day something you will cherish forever. With my whole heart, I highly recommend and encourage you to book your wedding at John P. Furber Farm. You will have the most incredible experience ever, and maybe even gain two new family members as we did. Thank you again, Angi and Wayne. They make sure things go smoothly on your wedding day and they make you feel taken care of. Angie met with us many times to figure out the details of our wedding day, and she was so helpful. Angie knows how things run smoothly and gives great advice. The barn is a little expensive, but it is worth the money. We enjoyed the Bridal Suite and Groom Suite. It is such a nice place to hang out for the day. The caterers did a great job, and the food was awesome. The only complaint I have is that there are required vendors. We had to use Adagio DJ service which we were not pleased with. They were very expensive and did not perform well. Their equipment did not work right and the microphones cracked through the entire ceremony. This was our only complaint. I wish we could have picked our own DJ service. Reviewed on 11-06-2018

Kaylee Sherman(bride)2 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 10-06-2017 Absolutely gorgeous venue. Owners meh.I am the bride mentioned in the review made by Frank S. For starters the venue was absolutely gorgeous and the venue was everything that I had hoped my BIG day to be....visually. However, I do have to agree with my father in saying that the customer service and communication was lacking. Being the bride, I was very busy all day, therefore I did not notice this as an issue until the end of the evening - when I experienced it first hand. I had 10 individuals that were in charge of tear down & removal of our decorations at the end of the evening. We had until 12AM BY CONTRACT to remove all of our items from the premises. However, immediately upon the end of the reception at 11pm, the owner began rushing us out. She was moving all of our stuff that we had designated people to be in charge of. She started throwing things on tables, in piles, and even went through the grooms room and put items and belongings in random bags. It took us weeks to get all of the belongings that were stuffed into random bags back to their rightful owners in our wedding party. Many that reside out of state. It was 11:15 pm when she began rushing and telling us we needed to be out. I had arranged for this to be done by 12AM, as contractually promised. There was no need for her to be acting as hastily and inconsiderately as she had. Things then became a mess and rushed because she was acting in this manner. She was even asking members of my family if she could throw away decorations, those of which belonged to others or that were rented. I then had to make my wedding party and guests wait on the shuttle bus for me because she was acting in this matter; becuase I had to make sure things were actually being handled how I had originally arranged. Despite what was said in the owner's response to my fathers review....she did not speak to me once throughout the entire evening, not even at the end when she was throwing my things around and rushing my family out. Also, my dad was NOT smoking in the doorway when the door was slammed in his face. He was getting instruction from me = the bride - when she slammed the door in his face. I know they had a wedding the next morning at 8AM, but that should not give her the right to treat us the way she did, or to disregard the contract that we had signed and agreed to. Angi and Wayne, thank you for letting us use your beautiful venue, it is absolutely gorgeous. However, I would suggest taking these examples as constructive criticism to reevaluate the way you handle situations and treat your paying customers in the future. My husband and I worked our butts off to single handedly pay for the venue. It should be safe for one to assume that for the thousands and thousands of dollars we spent for the venue.... that respect and common decency would be included. Reviewed on 13-03-2018

The bridal suite is not only beautiful, but spacious enough for professionals to do hair an make up on-site. The barn is so stunning, you can save a few hundred dollars by not decorating since there really is no need. The barn was open to us all day which gave us plenty of time for set up and hair/make up. The barn owners, Wayne and Angi were so helpful, whenever we had questions or needed anything, they were right there to help. Our experience with them for the last year and a half has been nothing but perfection. The day of the wedding, there was some confusion with the bar service and for whatever reason, it didn't appear we would have any. Wayne and Angi took control and within 15 minutes they had resolved the confusion and our bar service was on it's way. This wasn't their role or responsibility at all, but they just jumped in and helped out. They also were really great about explaining things about the barn we could do to help keep it cool and thank God it was indeed cool and comfortable as a result. They checked in on us throughout the day to make sure everything was working properly for us and were so excited to see us enjoy the barn and have a great day. They really were the kindest people and I felt like they were just more friends sharing our day. This couple has transformed this beautiful barn into something so special and unique. They were so helpful on the wedding day and the days leading up to it. The venue is perfect for a big or small crowd. There is plenty of space and plenty of ways to tweak things and make it your own! It has been so fun to see what every bride does differently for their own day. I think my absolute favorite part is that the barn itself is enough. Decorations are great but not even needed here. Of course every bride wants to design their own center pieces and put their own taste to things but I would have been just as happy walking into this place without doing a thing. They would go above and beyond to make everyone happy at any length (outside of breaking the law)! I have worked in this business for ever and I encountered a wedding party very much like this one! It was a huge wedding that served their guests a plated lunch and they had steak & lobster for their set down dinner, I am sure it was close to a $100,000 wedding! They also had free alcohol for the entire day, to make a long story short the wedding needed to be shut down and the police were called in because the bride & groom as well as the majority of the guests turned a beautiful wedding into a drunken brawl! I personal was not at the event that was held at the Furber Farm, but I do know first hand that when alcohol takes over often times things can get very out of hand and sometimes very dangerous! I guess if I was a Bride & Groom considering this Venue I would be very excited to know that the owners care enough about their clients to make sure nothing like that was ever to happen at their venue!! Anonymous (wedding party)1 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 01-10-2017 The barn is beautiful and redone very nicely. However, the owners need to take a class on how to treat people who are paying them thousands of dollars. I am a bride coming this October and if my venue talked and treated me the way the Butt's did I would be appalled. Wyane is very accommodating and is very helpful. Angi on the other hand seems to not handle the stress of questions or concerns very well. As she tells brides they are \"driving her nuts\". When I saw that message from my friend I was more upset than she was. Again, if my venue pulled that kind of bull I would raise hell. Not only would I be upset at that but to also block the bride from they way they have been communicating the whole time the DAY before the wedding...and her response was \"I needed a break\". Are you kidding me?!?!? Are you seriously kidding me. Yuck. I cannot even imagine running a business that way. And I am going to school to be a business owner myself. I am glad they have been great to other brides in the past but I am first to say my friend was not a difficult bride as Angi has said. I would be just as upset as the bride and groom and their families. Venues should be accommodating and respectful to those who are using their venue. You are making so much money from one weekend, how can you act so ungrateful and treat people with no respect? I just don't understand. When a bride sends a message simply confirming something your response should not be you are driving me nuts. I am now getting upset again thinking about that night all over again. I have emailed and called my vendors multiple times and have never felt like a \"problem\" to them. Overall, I am disgusted with mostly everything these owners have pulled. I will never recommend this venue to any upcoming bride and groom. I wouldn't have given a start at all but I am required to unfortunately. Reviewed on 01-08-2016
Amy Hughes(wedding party)2 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 26-05-2018 Though a gorgeous venue and outdoor ceremony, the managers of Historic John P. Furber Farm, Wayne and Angi Butt, truly put a damper on the bride and groom's enjoyment of planning a wedding, as well as enjoying their big day. I have three instances I would like to share that I think capture the unprofessional, undeserved customer service that the bride and groom received during their wedding planning and day of. About 3 days before the wedding, I was with the bride when she sent a simple, polite, confirmation email about to Angi regarding the lighting. In a matter of seconds, she received reply that the bride was \"driving me crazy,\" but proceeded to answer her initial question. No bride or groom should ever receive such an unprofessional, rude reply from a business that is not only hosting their big day, but that is also receiving likely a large payment from the bride and groom. Of course the marrying couple will have many questions to ensure their day is exactly how they want it to be, so I was shocked at how inappropriate Angi's response was.A second instance of where I have witnessed unprofessional customer service at Historic John P. Furber Farm that was toward the bride happened the day before the wedding, as we were there to set up and decorate. When we entered just after 11am, the alarm on the barn went off, so we needed to contact someone to help us reset it. When the bride attempted to contact Angi over Facebook Messenger, the app would not allow her to send a message (it said \"this person isn't receiving messages from you right now\"). When we went through the groom's Facebook Messenger, there was no problem contacting her. Because of this, we suspected she blocked the bride from contacting her. Then, at the end of the wedding the next day, Angi told the bride that she, in fact, did block her because \"she couldn't deal with her anymore.\" To me, this is such a major disappointment for an establishment to be represented by such poor customer service, let alone be a dark cloud over someone's happiest day. What business condones representatives the option of \"not dealing\" with people? Wedding venues need people for business. These actions were totally inappropriate and unprofessional. I also witnessed some extremely unprofessional behavior on the part of the owners during the close out of the event. While hurriedly packing up food, decorations, and belongs, as we knew we were on a timeline to get out by midnight, unprofessional language and gestures were used. The bride was reduced to tears on her wedding night. No newly wedded couple or guest should leave their happiest day totally offended, upset, and disappointed by the wedding vendor. Granted, I only know a side of this story through what I have heard from the bride and groom, and from what I witnessed the week before and day of the wedding, but it is enough for me to never give them my business and discourage others to give them theirs. Though I've seen mostly positive reviews of this venue (as it is in a beautiful setting), I believe these instances represent totally unacceptable customer service for me to ever consider giving them business for my wedding, and I highly recommend future marrying couples to cautiously consider the Historic John P. Furber Farm for future weddings. Reviewed on 31-07-2016

If you are looking for a new and rustic venue, John P Furber Farm is a GREAT choice. You and your guests will love it. Reviewed on 05-11-2015

Wayne and Angela Butt (Owner)
Wayne and I purchased our historical property in 2010 so that Wayne could build his model train layout in the barn and to fix up the 1850's Italianate style home. God sometimes has other plans for us so we ended up fixing up the barn instead! Our new plan is to have weddings in the barn and on the property to raise money to fix up the historic home, take it back to 1850, and incorporate it into the venue. Now we have the honor and privilege of creating so many happy memories for so many people!
