Jess Davis(bride)2 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 03-09-2022 Spend your money elsewhere! As a bride reading this, I do not have to tell you how expense hosting your wedding at a hotel is. You will not be treating like a valued customer from this hotel but rather you will feel like they expect you to thank them for taking your money and allowing you host your wedding here. Not a single interaction with this hotel staff was a positive one. Some of the issues encountered included: 1-multiple calls where I was always told “no guarantee” & “we will see” & “call back to check later” on topics such as early check in to booked rooms & ability to pay for a comparable room the night before the wedding & not needing to move rooms when the “included room” kicked in; 2–having to chase staff to lock in a rehearsal that couldn’t be guaranteed to held in our space, at any time until less than 2-weeks before wedding; 3–filthy, over-priced rooms; 4–staff that really could care less about you as customer (multiple communications with catering manager assigned to me & the operations director as it pertained to my stay feedback went 7-12 days without response, even when I followed up); & 5–the response from the staff & the operations director around the filthy rooms. The top three things my guests liked were the officiant–no connection to Maya, our DJ–no connection to Maya, & the view–you can get basically this same view if you book The Reef across the street from the Maya (we considered The Reef, too, so I can speak to this). Here is the summary of some of what occurred the wedding weekend. After multiple calls to the hotel & speaking with people, I finally was able to confirm an early check-in on Fri at 10:30 am for check-in Fri for my Sat wedding. I booked 3 rooms–1 for one night, that was to transition to the wedding suite as part of the wedding package, & 2 for 2 nights. Upon arrival at 1:45 pm, I was told only some of the rooms were ready–specifically, the 1 that was to transition to the wedding suite was not & wouldn’t be until normal check in time. After 15 mins, I was told “OK” making us rush to unload car & meet with notary before our 3:30 rehearsal. After rehearsal & dinner off-site, we settled into our room & immediately had sink drain issues. Sat, wedding day, my room hosted the brides-maids hair/make-up. I put on my dress for a moment, then took off & where my dress touched the floor had BLACK SOOT mark. My girls went to work with Tide sticks & water. We then pulled a blanket out of the closet & laid it on the floor to avoid further stress. My photographer spilled water & used a washcloth to wipe up–which also became blackened with dirt! I got ready on top of the blanket & barely moved in fear of further dirt. When returning to room, the sink stopped draining all together. My face wash, teeth brushing, and hand washing water stayed in the sink all night. No draining. Sunday morning, I got up & walked from the bed to the bathtub. When I stepped on the bath matt, left dirty feet marks on the bathmat just from the walk from the bed. (My feet were in socks all day in the suite & from the time I kicked off my wedding shoes until I climbed into bed on Sat. When checking out, I informed the desk of the issues and showed them the pictures and was asked “this is the comped room, right?” That was a clear statement it was OK because I didn’t pay for it. But I DID FRIDAY NIGHT! Speaking to hotel & Hilton has yielded nothing further. And post I also found out the other rooms were dirty. Reviewed on 23-09-2022

We had needed to do ethnic catering for our event and they were able to accommodate that and put together packages for us. Would recommend this venue to anyone who has a bigger wedding, has specific catering requirements, and/or wants water views! Ariel, the hotel's catering manager, was exceptionally helpful in making sure that everything was in place and ensuring that the wedding ceremony and reception went off without a hitch; she was very accommodating and was a pleasure to work with. The venue itself was very nice, with several options on the hotel grounds as to where to have the ceremony/reception (options appeared to be tiered based on occupancy and other factors). We selected the Jardin de Palmeras for the ceremony, and the reception was conveniently held in the adjacent Luna Solstice. Ariel worked diligently to ensure that both areas were set up to our preference - the result was two beautifully decorated spaces that allowed for a perfect flow from ceremony to reception. We had a guest list of about 60 people, which they were able to comfortably accommodate. The hotel did offer group discount on room blocks, however most of our guests were local so we did not take advantage. In all, we were so happy to have selected Hotel Maya - the venue is beautiful and the staff were attentive and a pleasure to work with. Reviewed on 28-01-2020

The view was beautiful, the food was delicious, and the staff was very accommodating. We set up a custom full vegetarian menu and custom cocktails and no extra charge! The only reason this review is a four and not a five is that the room block turned out to be a total rip off. The prices dropped to well below room block rate on Expedia. And they wouldn't honor reservations for people who booked at the cheaper rates. If I could do it all over again, I would still have my wedding at this beautiful place, but I would avoid the room block like the plague and just tell my guest to wait to book rooms until a month or so before. Diana Vanderpol(bride)1 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 04-06-2014 I am currently looking for venues for my 2014 wedding which would be held on a Thursday, September 4th. Of course being that my wedding is in 2014 some venues may give me different pricing because the pricing will change by then. Let me just say.. the hotel is wonderful, food at the fuego was delicous, packages that are offered are average but the other fees are what's ridiculous. This is the only venue that really tried to rip me off! \r\r1. I went there and asked for an estimate on how much higher the pricing would be in 2014.. they said around 10-14 percent higher which I even have an email as proof. \r2. Went home reviewed the estimate sheet and concluded that it was priced 20 percent or more for F&B and room rental.\r3. If you are not having the ceremony there then run.. because you are only allowed to rent TWO ROOMS...hello.. I only need one right? Nope, you have to rent two and pricing on that for 2014 was $1800 for one room and $2200 for the other which makes no sense because they both are $1500 right now so why are the priced so different in 2014? PLUS they charge a 20% service fee on the rooms being rented!!! Um.. this is the only venue that I have seen that does that. I understand state tax but I shouldn't have to be charged 20% service fee to rent 2 room especially if I only really need ONE!\r4. The package option that was given to me were priced at 20 percent more plus they took off things that are included in the package now... Mmmm pay more get less?\r5. After explaining on how I am confused on why she had said 10-14% increased and it reflects 20% or more on the estimate, I was told that this is what was approved by the director... okay.. but why is it 20% or more.. and she replied because that is the increase projected for 2014... but you said 10-14%... Well this is what was approved.... RIP OFF. Plus the reason you have to have 2 rooms booked is because most people have their ceremony there. I asked what about business meetings or functions.. she replied the majority of our revenue is from weddings so we require them to book two rooms as well. That is the strangest policy to have.. if you want one room... you should be able to book ONE ROOM especially if they want to charge 20% service fee.\r\rOverall, it's beautiful and they take advantage of it. Terranea which is a RESORT not a DoubleTree hotel is the same price and you get a lot more and a better view. So much potential but wayyyyyy to egotistic. Reviewed on 23-10-2012
Evelyn Lugo(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 17-08-2012 When we got engaged, my first thought was to have a destination wedding. I definitely did not want to have a big wedding extravaganza and didn't want a traditional wedding setting. After coming to realization that some of our close family members wouldn't be able to travel, I decided to just settle with having the wedding local...but I had my requirements. I wanted to have it on the beach or at a winery. So we set out venue hunting. \r\rWe began looking at places by the beach first then were planning on going to winery venues after. We went to 4 different venues by the beach but none of them were exactly what we wanted, especially for the style of wedding I wanted. Our last attempt for a beach venue was Hotel Maya. Once we stepped foot on the property we were SOLD and there was no turning back. We dropped the idea for a winery real quick. From the amazing view of the bay and downtown long beach to the decor and all the different areas for the wedding day events; there was no going wrong. \r\rHotel Maya is definitely a hidden paradise and what we loved about it was that we felt like we were on an tropical island somewhere instead of a few miles away from home. Everything about Hotel Maya took my breath away (especially the yummy food) and I knew this was the best place to say our I DO's. \r\rWe worked very closely with Crystal, catering manager, and she was beyond amazing. She was extremely efficient, knowledgeable, accommodating and a pure sweetheart. I also worked with Kayse, catering coordinator, who was also such a pleasure and helpful with all my request and needs. \r\rWe made a whole weekend out of the wedding and our guests did not stop ranting and raving about the hotel and how beautiful it is. The catering director, Eileen, was wonderful and accomodated every aspect of our vision for our wedding day. We went with a wedding planner recommended by Hotel Maya and I would definately suggest that you do likewise. Because of her relationship with the hotel, she was able to make a some extra special things happen behind the scenes. We had our ceremony, cocktail reception and wedding reception in three different sights at the hotel. The wedding sight really showcased the harbor. The reception room was lovely at night with the city lights. The patio off the ballroom is great and would have been an amazing space but we were limited in using it because it started to rain. My only complaint is that the captain for our reception room turned up the lights as soon as our DJ stopped playing music at 11 pm and started to encourage my guests to leave the room even though we had booked the room until midnight. I felt he should have allowed us to remain in the room for the full time. I could not even argue with him because most of my guests had already re-located to the hotel bar when I realized what had happened. Oh well! We had a great time and it was a beeautiful event.
