The Silk Mill and our sister venue, The Woolen Mill located just next door, are full service event spaces offering ceremonies, receptions, and lodging. We are located minutes from I-95, Routes 1 & 17 and walking distance to historic Downtown Fredericksburg.
The Silk Mill dates back to 1889 and offers an elegant and industrial atmosphere. The Mill served as the area's major employer of women at the turn of the century. The event space holds up to 300 guests. Your ceremony can take place in a variety of locations including our adjoining chapel, courtyard, or inside the mill. This Silk Mill is known for its flexibility of set up & layout designs and is the perfect backdrop for any decor taste.
Our new sister venue, The Woolen Mill, is located just next door. The Woolen Mill dates back to 1864. Since then, it has served as a factory for various industries including a shoe & pant factory, and most recently before it's current use, a commercial signage company . Now restored, the space offers a gorgeous industrial modern feel with beautiful craftsman accents, most of which are original to the building. One of its most unique features is a spacious rooftop overlooking the scenic Rappahannock river where you are sure to see a variety of wildlife including bald eagles that nest along the riverbank. The Woolen Mill accommodates weddings of up to 220 guests.
Both the Silk Mill and Woolen Mill offer on-site accommodations at Inn at the Old Silk Mill, our 25 room historic inn. The Inn has always served as an overnight accommodation location since it's origination in the 1920s. This offers a unique experience for you and your guests to enjoy your time exploring historic Downtown Fredericksburg without the hassle of driving.
We look forward to learning more about you and catering to your wedding needs.

Our wedding at the Old Silk Mill was AMAZING! The venue itself was beautiful and matched perfectly to what we envisioned our wedding day looking like. The Old Silk Mill provided the food and drink services onsite which made it SO much easier on us for wedding planning. We didn't have to scramble to include more vendors because they were already apart of the venue. The food was also OUTSTANDING! Everyone came up to us to let us know how good the food was even after the wedding.I'd also like to shout out Shannon who was our wedding coordinator who did such an amazing job! Prior to the wedding, she was so quick to answer any questions I had and was always so helpful. She helped with absolutely everything and it made our wedding planning and the wedding day so much easier/smoother! Between planning, rehearsal, setup, ceremony cues, cleanup, and everything else, Shannon was on top of it all and we didn't have to worry about a thing!I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend having your wedding at the Old Silk Mill and also request Shannon as your wedding coordinator for a stress free wedding! We had our reception at the Silk Mill and it was truly a dream! From the moment we stepped foot into the Mill it was everything we were looking for - an interior design with history and character, a staff that strives to make the wedding experience as easy and inclusive as possible and hospitality that kept our guests happy the day-of. I truly can't emphasize how much of a good decision it was for us to celebrate our wedding at the Silk Mill, there are no others I would have trusted more. Also, I need to shoutout our amazing event coordination, Shannon, for her professionalism and diligence. We chose to book day-of services through the Mill because we trusted their staff, and I'm so glad we did. She was with me every step of the way to make sure our event was everything my husband and I wanted. THANK YOU SHANNON! Reviewed on 18-06-2023
Mayah Valentin(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 17-09-2022 I just had my wedding at this venue and it was AMAZING. I can't express how amazing it was. The venue itself is absolutely beautiful, including multiple ceremony locations, a unique reception space, and gorgeous photo backdrops, all without having to leave the site. The staff is incredibly nice, from the owner to the bartenders to the coordinators. Morgan was our day-of-coordinator and she was incredible. Keeping everything on schedule while also being able to roll with last minute changes and being so welcoming, calm, and collected were just some of her strengths, there are so many more. This venue takes care of the food/beverages and the food is actually SO GOOD. Our guests were raving about our dinner and gelato cart, which I think says a lot because wedding food isn't always the best. We felt so at ease throughout our whole day and I don't think it would've been as perfect anywhere else. I cannot recommend this venue enough!!!!!! Reviewed on 21-09-2022
Yuliya Shubina(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 04-09-2022 We got married at the Old Silk Mill on Sept. 4th, 2022, and cannot recommend this venue enough!!! From when we first learned about them, to when we came to tour it, to all the pre-event communication, to the food tasting, and finally to our wedding day, every staff member we interacted and worked with was professional, approachable, kind, attentive to our needs (and wants!), and extremely accommodating. The team at the Old Silk Mill truly goes above and beyond to make your big day stress-free, memorable, and according to your vision. We also hired our Day of Coordinator through them, and she was so helpful in so many different ways b/c of her talents and also b/c she knows the in-and-outs of the venue. As for the venue itself, it is a hidden gem! The ancient red brick and the lush green grounds require very minimum decorations and look so classy and beautiful on their own. The venue came with many twinkle lights, ceiling decor, and beautiful antique furniture. The gold chivari chairs and gold flatware were a bonus for us but something the venue provides at no extra cost. Lastly, the food was incredible! We came to the tasting a month before our wedding, tried many different food options, and spoke with the chef. The result was a delicious meal at our reception! (Coffee-encrusted beef, saffron rice, and chef's special roasted veggies. For dessert, we had a dessert bar) In summary, the venue and its staff have exceeded all of our expectations! K P(bride)3 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 22-01-2022 The venue is beautiful and the food was great! However, the coordinator we booked through the Silk Mill was not good. Rehearsal started at 4:30 she arrived at 4:29. The chapel was freezing, no heat was cut on. I checked into our room however they did not have our room booked, but had our block of rooms. For the actual wedding day she did not communicate when she would arrive so I was worried about all the logistics. She arrived around noon for a 4:30 wedding. They said the chapel would be warm for the ceremony- it was not! We brought a heater so our guests would not be freezing on a 20 degree day. Did not see the coordinator until I walked down the aisle. The cake table we originally agreed on was not used so my bridal party had to move the cake to use the original table we picked. As soon as it was 10pm they immediately began to clean up when people were still in there. We paid for all of the food, but you will not get any leftovers- only the to go meal for the bride and groom. The Groom’s mom had to ask for the cake to be boxed up to take home (we had the cake from outside not from the Silk Mill). Overall the experience for us as the bride and groom was not good, thankfully the guests did not know any of that went on! Reviewed on 29-01-2022

Brittany Oakley(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 04-09-2021 The Silk Mill was seriously the venue of my dreams. Just far enough out of DC. Such a great location! The historic brick buildings are covered in ivy which made for such dreamy photos! I loved the convenience of having the Inn steps away for the wedding party and family. The cost was appropriate. The owner, Anna, was so easy to work with. Sarah and Anne were able to answer almost every question I had - and there were a lot!! Morgan, our day of coordinator, was amazing. Meg Dallett(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 27-04-2019 We had our wedding (about 125 people) at the Old Silk Mill and loved it. The location was beautiful and interesting to look at, they had relationships with all our vendors so coordination was easy, and the people we worked with were as nice as could be. They provide a day-of coordinator if you want one, and Brianna was on top of everything. We did the ceremony and reception in the same room, and the staff flipped the space quickly during the cocktail hour so there wasn't a long waiting period before dinner. There was nothing we really needed to deal with on the day of the wedding other than DIYing the flowers and getting the bridal party ready. Also, the space seems like it could be really flexible on decor-- you can go all out if you want, but if you'd rather not worry about decor it still looks stunning on its own. I'm a little OCD at times when it comes to planning and I admit I was concerned at first because we didn't have too much conversation initially, but I now know why that was the case. She was busy making sure the brides and families before me were being well taken care of by assuring them she had everything under control. As our day drew near, Morgan kept in close contact with me. She always had a smile and a kind word and made sure my husband and I were totally at ease. She meticulously coordinated with all of our vendors to be sure everything went exactly as we planned. We were able to customize the venue to reflect our interests and tastes, but we didn't have to do too much decorating since the place is so elegant on its own. We also rented out all of the rooms at the Inn which worked out really great for our guests. They enjoyed their stay and use of the common areas to visit. Sarah D. was our wedding coordinator and was an absolute dream to work with. She has such a warm and kind disposition and is so genuine in her desire to make your big day go off without issue. Throughout the months leading up to the wedding, she kept in contact with me and quickly answered any and all of my questions. She is an excellent communicator and listener. She is also extremely organized. We had a very long guest list, lots of varying elements to our reception, and a lot of family members who had a hand in the decorating and planning. She was so patient and went above and beyond to make time for all of the different dialogues to ensure everything was seamless. She was also really great to give my husband and me more than enough time to know when the next schedule event was (i.e. cake cutting, final dance, etc.). As fast as the whole day went, I truly was able to enjoy every moment of our wedding and reception and I know that was largely due to Sarah's ability to effectively guide the timeline of the day. Ashley Belyea(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 17-12-2016 We had a December wedding here and it was fantastic. As a Fredericksburg native who is now living elsewhere, I had only ever seen the Inn from the less-than-inspiring Princess Anne side. When looking at venues all around Virginia with my now-husband, we finally went inside the Inn and Mill and both fell instantly in love with the possibilities for the spaces.Inn: It was wonderful to have many of our guests able to stay right on site. Most of our guests, and my now-husband's entire family, are from out-of-state, so this allowed everyone to feel local for the weekend. The parlor served as an easy gathering-point at all times of day.Reception: The Mill is often described as a \"blank slate,\" and it definitely provides all sorts of opportunities to decorate as you like; that said, the owners have also introduced many thoughtful design details that feel elegant and fun, without limiting your decoration options. It was so convenient that tables. chairs, and linens were handled as part of the rental. We chose to rent chiviari chairs, but were able to do that as part of our venue contract -- as details mount in wedding planning, this was so good.Courtyard: For cocktail hour between ceremony and reception, we had guests go to the courtyard, which we'd tented. It worked very well for 150 guests and provided a great on-site cocktail hour location. Chapel: You definitely need to have a vision for decorating the chapel, as it is only recently opened and still needs the details that make the Mill so great. That said, with some dedicated friends the morning of, it was a beautiful space for our ceremony.Wakefield Room: We used the Wakefield Room as a a getting-ready room for the ladies, as the location for a kids reception during the reception, and for a Sunday brunch the next day. It was a great space for all three, versatile, comfortable, and elegant.Day of Coordinator: Sarah was amazing. She was professional and detail-oriented and, at the same time, calming, kind, and just the right amount of funny. Especially after talking with other brides about their nightmare day-of coordinator experiences at other venues, I cannot say enough good things about Sarah.Cons: The only con, truly, was that there was confusion around the welcome bags my mother had prepared for guests. Many of the guests staying at the Inn did not receive theirs, even after I double-checked names/room numbers the day before the wedding. Things happen, and they have assured me, they've figured out a better system for the future. Reviewed on 16-01-2017
Lauren Gossett(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 17-07-2016 Exceptional venue and staff! Everyone was a joy to work with and the venue is absolutely breathtaking. How wonderful it was to enjoy the reception without a thought or concern about anything . Sarah, our reception day-of coordinator was amazing. She went above and beyond (way beyond coordinating the reception the day of only)...from meeting with us months in advance so we had piece of mind, to setting up on wedding day with an extraordinary attention to detail, to coordinating with the other vendors so that everything went smoothly, to showing up at the church before she went to OSM to set up (with an emergency kit in hand in case it was needed, and a big hug for us all), ...she helped make our special day \"all that more special\". She patiently answered our many questions as we planned and equally patiently was there to make our reception go so smoothly and so well. She is AMAZING...and so is the venue. Reviewed on 08-09-2016
Colleen Kalil(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 25-04-2015 My husband and I got married at The Old Silk Mill on April 25, 2015. We had both our ceremony and reception there as well as stayed at the Inn with our immediate family and bridal party. The Inn is absolutely beautiful and a blank slate as far as decorating or if that is not your thing it is beautiful on its own as well. We went for a minimalistic decorating strategy with candles in the windows and on the tables and the mill was just more gorgeous as the evening wore on. We also hired their wedding coordinator Sarah and I cannot say enough about her. She had everything down to a science and asked about details we hadn’t even thought about. She made sure everything was perfect for our day (including a move of the ceremony inside when it ended up being rainy and cold on our wedding day). At times it felt like there must have been 3 of her with all the running back and forth she did from the reception set up, to the bridal party getting ready and the groomsmen. My mom and I both discussed that we could not imagine the stress we would have been under the day of had Sarah not been there to oversee and coordinate everything. Another great thing about the Silk Mill is the use of the Inn. We booked the entire Inn for our bridal party and family and having everything in one place was so easy for everyone and a lot of fun. I would highly recommend the Silk Mill for any bride planning her special day! You won’t be disappointed. Reviewed on 05-06-2015

She was ASWESOME and I would highly recommend hiring her b/c she made sure everything went smoothly. Nicole Nargi(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 17-05-2014 The atmosphere made you feel like you had gone back in time - I'm from the area so it was nice to feel like my wedding was a \"destination wedding\" without having to go anywhere! \rThe guest rooms are decorated with antiques and no two rooms are alike. The courtyard is beautiful, which is where I had my ceremony, and the mill itself is so inspiring. The \"blank canvas\" was perfect. It was also nice to have the entire Inn to ourselves so that my guests could get ready and walk right downstairs and vice versa at the end of the night! \r\rThe only thing I would caution about in the Mill itself would be the acoustics. The DJ I hired had done events at the Mill before but an overwhelming number of my guests said they had a hard time hearing him...Ultimately, I heard my sister's MOH speech so that's all that matters but it would have been nice if my guests could have heard it, too. \r\rI ended up hiring Sarah (the day-of-coordinator at the Inn) and don't know what I would have done without her. She was EVERYTHING a bride needs on her wedding day and days leading up to it! Her energy was always calm and she did everything in her power to make may day run as smoothly as possible. Everyone in my bridal party couldn't say enough kind things about her. She was organized, flexible, extremely responsive and accomodating, personable and just overall on top of her game!! I would highly recommend using her day-of services especially if you plan on having both your ceremony and reception at the Mill.\r\rUnfortunately, there were only TWO things I wasn't happy about which is why the service is rated at a 4 and not a 5...note that everything leading up to the wedding day was WONDERFUL concerning service.\r\rThe morning after my wedding, I went to pick up the rest of my things and my flowers. I don't think the Inn knew I was coming to pick up my flowers so they had used them in the breakfast room, the entrance coffee table and at the front check-in area. We rang the bell, knocked on the door several times and walked around the immediate area for at least 15 minutes trying to locate someone to let them know we would be taking my flowers but found no one. So, we loaded them up and left. A day or so later, the Inn called my mother to let her know they found a few things they believed belonged to us and then said, \"Also, we were wondering if you knew where *our* flowers went?\" My mother told them that we took *my* flowers and tried to let someone know but couldn't find anyone after looking for several minutes. They then asked if we could return the vase one of the arrangements was in because it belonged to someone in the office. My mother returned the vase and later we found out that the vase did not belong to anyone in the office. \r\rI also found out after my honeymoon that one of my bridesmaids lost a pearl earring in her room that her father had bought for her from Spain. She contacted the Inn and they said they had found it but they needed her to describe it and provide a picture. She did both and asked if they could mail it; they asked her to pay for postage, she agreed, they said nevermind, they ended up sending it in a regular white envelope and when she recieved it there was a hole in the envelope and it was gone.\r\rOverall, it was a wonderful and beautiful wedding experience and I highly recommend to brides with big imaginations but the flower and pearl situation left me feeling a little disappointed. Monica Rogers(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 12-04-2014 We used The Old Silk Mill as our wedding venue and reception site on April 12 2014, all taking place within the Mill. Our experience with the wedding coordinator was phenomenal, as we live in NYC and Sarah was easy to get in touch with, accommodating, worked with my mom who was close by, and absolutely available 100% on the wedding day to do whatever we asked and more. While the Mill is kind of a blank slate it was perfect for us to decorate as we liked and I loved the huge space and exposed brick. If I have any complaints, it would be with the attached B&B being that some of my guests were having a difficult time making overnight reservations or some of the reservations not showing up after they called to make one. None of this was an issue on the weekend of the wedding though because Sarah was on top of everything to get it all in order before the wedding weekend, checking in with me to have all bases covered. The attached B&B was perfectly awesome during Friday and Saturday of the wedding, accommodating my (sometimes drunk) guests. I would recommend this venue to anyone who is thinking of getting married in the area, the proximity to downtown Fredericksburg is also a plus. Reviewed on 28-05-2014
Stacy Kindavong(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 17-05-2014 My husband and I just had our wedding here May 17, 2014 and it was amazing!! It was more than I ever could have imagined. I like that The Silk Mill is historic and has somewhat of a blank slate so you can really make it your own. Sarah was so helpful the entire time before the wedding, the day before and the day of the wedding. She was SO attentive and seriously made the day so so much better and easier. While we were doing wedding party pictures, she was right there with food and drinks ready to step in to keep us fed and happy. Every part of the wedding was perfect, thanks to the staff at the Silk Mill. If I could get married every day, I would do it over and over again at the Inn at the Old Silk Mill. Rachel Gourley(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 09-11-2013 When planning my wedding, I really didn't want a typical venue, such as a stuffy hotel ballroom, etc. when I saw the Old Silk Mill I was in love!! Such a classic, almost rustic look, but still elegant and chic. It's absolutely perfect! This venue can host small or large weddings and is so versatile. You can have your wedding indoors, in the beautiful mill, or outdoors, in the beautiful courtyard. The staff is so helpful and did everything in their power to make sure our big day flowed as smoothly as possible. I honestly couldn't have asked for a better location to have my wedding, it was stunning! Reviewed on 14-12-2013

You can do whatever you want inside this building...any color scheme or theme! Sarah, the day of coordinator, is amazing!!! I never had a worry the day of my wedding because of her...she was there with a helping hand to help me use the restroom or fix my bustle. Reviewed on 19-11-2013

Shannon Darkow(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 18-02-2012 We had our wedding in February 2012. I found the location online. It was my number 1 choice and the only venue we toured. We fell in love with the location instantly. It was amazing. It is rustic yet industrial and historic. We were married in the old silk mill. The Inn is just as pretty, if you have a smaller number of guest attending you can get married on the \"gone with the wind\" stairs. The old silk mill is a large location. The owners are a pleasure to work with and were very helpful along the way. I could not have asked for a better wedding and guest still compliment us on our wedding months later. And the location inspires amazing photographs! Reviewed on 06-06-2012

Finding The Inn at the Old Silk Mill in Fredericksburg was like finding a diamond on a hiking trail I've been on a hundred times before. I grew up in the Frdedericksburg area and have literally driven past the venue hundreds of times without giving it a second thought. I was apprehensive about booking a meeting there, because the outside of the Inn is pretty underwhelming. But walking into the Inn, I was blown away! The lobby and sitting rooms just have an awesome classic feel, and I found my weekend wedding guests meeting up to chat in the common areas instead of their rooms because everyone liked the ambiance so much! \r\rAnd the rooms are amazing! Every single room is furnished differently with antiques, and it's incredibly fun to peek into the different rooms to see all the new furniture! I had guests come up to me and tell me how comfortable them beds were and how well they slept. One guest told me that she normally doesn't sleep well in hotels, but she slept like a log \"because the rooms were just so homey and comfortable!\"\r\rThat leaves the Silk Mill itself! We had our wedding reception in the court yard and our reception in the Silk Mill. Everyone was blown away by the historic building, and I loved that the architecture was so interesting that I didn't have to decorate much! Everyone loved the large space, and we had enough room for all of our 130 guests, DJ, Dance Floor, and caterers! The floor is concrete, but it was incredibly smooth and every one kicked off their shoes by the end of the night and was dancing barefoot with no problems!\r\rThe Staff at the Inn is incredibly positive, helpful, and responsive. They'll answer any question you throw at them and are extremely flexible and accommodating! I highly recommend them as a wedding venue! Reviewed on 16-05-2012
