The historic ballroom with cathedral like ceilings and stained glass windows create the perfect background for your reception and ceremony. Located at the heart of Building 50 at The Village at Grand Traverse Commons, Kirkbride Hall was the original Chapel of the Traverse City State Hospital built in 1885. The beautiful charm of the historic buildings and the scenic landscape of the Commons provides the ideal setting for your entire wedding weekend.
From start to finish the Kirkbride Hall and staff were perfect! It was my dream wedding. Chelsea was always responsive and flexible. Highly recommend! Reviewed on 14-10-2023
Erin Rosner(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 14-08-2021 We absolutely loved working with Kirkbride Hall! Kate made sure our day was perfect--especially since we were planning from a distance. Kate was easy to communicate with, always found time to meet with me whenever I was in Traverse City, and solved a last minute problem with another vendor. Her and her team really went above and beyond for our wedding. We opted for an outdoor event, and the lawn was just stunning in late summer. Reviewed on 10-09-2021
Ariel Couturier(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 21-05-2021 Planning a wedding during the Pandemic is insanely stressful and overwhelming. But through it all Kate at Kirkbride was always on top of the new orders and guidelines. She was the first to let me know about any changes to guest count/rules. I would recommend Kirkbride just based on my experience with Kate, my wedding would not have run smoothly without her. With that being said I would also recommend Kirkbride based on the venue. I was dreading moving my wedding to the tent/outside space but it turned out beautifully. Even outside the venue is stunning. The day of the wedding ran so smoothly thanks to the staff setting up and taking down the tables. A hidden perk that I enjoyed is you get to take pictures in the tunnel which is unique. Dianne Davenport(other)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 24-04-2021 Scheduled the wedding for inside, but with COVID moved it to outside at the newly built Piazza. It was BEAUTIFUL . Kate worked her tail off as we were the first ones to use this. I can't even tell you how awesome it turned out with heaters, an extra tent etc. Better than we could have EVER imagined. Highly recommend this venue. Reviewed on 11-05-2021
Jenn Wolff(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 04-09-2020 This was absolutely perfect for our wedding. With COVID, we had to reschedule how we were going to do our whole Detroit wedding, and elected to elope in Traverse City instead. Kate at Kirkbride Hall was so incredibly helpful and sweet helping us to set everything up, make sure we had everything we needed and provide us with all the info we could've needed. Krystal was awesome the day of and we were so excited to get down to the tunnels to take pictures. I would recommend Kirkbride Hall to anyone looking for a special space with some truly helpful people! Reviewed on 25-09-2020
Shawnna Manzano(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 21-09-2019 My husband and I knew from the beginning our wedding was going to be big, boisterous, and full of kids. We needed a place to accommodate that AND where it was all on site ( I hate being late)The front lawn of the Grand Traverse Commons was the perfect place. The kids had the best time running around playing and the adults could relax and enjoy the day. Everyone at Kirkbride was amazing, helping move the chairs and making sure through the week there was nothing else I needed. Kate, is a well of information and ideas. All I knew was where I wanted the wedding. She and her team handled everything else with perfection. Thank you again Kate, for everything you did for us. We still have people telling us how amazing and fun our wedding was. Reviewed on 18-12-2019
Elle Burgess(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 22-12-2018 We had the best wedding day because of Meg, Emma and Brad! Not only was the venue beautiful but the people were great! I felt less stressed because Meg and Emma were constantly communicating with me! Brad, the handy man, did an exceptional job at cleaning and setting up the space. The stain glass windows at Kirkbride is a wonderful feature that you will not get anywhere else. We looked at various places around Traverse City and this spot was hands down, a show stopper! Hannah Miller(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 13-10-2018 Kirkbride Hall is a beautiful unique venue! I have always known that a reception hall/ ballroom would not be the wedding venue of my choice. From the beauty of the grounds and buildings to the helpfulness of the staff, you can not go wrong with this venue! Meg and Emma made wedding planning easy. I am from down state and arranged everything for my wedding in a few trips to Traverse City, emails, and phone calls. Meg answered my many questions in a timely fashion and was able to set up phone calls that worked around my schedule along with meetings when I came to town. She was able to recommend vendors that were familiar with Kirkbride which was very helpful. Both Meg and Emma did an awesome job! They went above and beyond to help my special requests become a reality and make my wedding vision come to life. I wish I could relive the day over and over. I would recommend this venue to anyone considering Traverse City. Thanks again Meg and Emma for making my wildest dreams come true! Reviewed on 14-11-2018

Eric Brown(groom)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 06-08-2016 When we got engaged we started to reach out to venues. We both where amazed how many venues did not call you back or called back weeks later. We contacted Kirkbride Hall and Meg got back to us the same day. When taking a look at Kirkbride Hall both my future Bride and myself fell in love with the place. It was such a beautiful venue. Meg continued to be awesome to work with through the process. We both said that Meg was really on the ball. Jon the operations manager also was very great to work with. He made everything from set up to take down very easy and run smoothly. I would highly recommend booking at Kirkbride Hall. We had many comments on how beautiful our wedding reception venue was. Reviewed on 14-08-2016
Kelli Saunders(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 16-01-2016 Kirkbride hall was hands down the best decision for our wedding venue. The staff were amazing and really helped to guide us, since neither of us knew what we were doing. The grounds surrounding the hall are so unique with an awesome balance of history, beauty & a little creepiness since its an abandoned/renovated mental asylum. I would definitely recommend Kirkbride if your looking for something gorgeous and a little out of the ordinary. Our wedding was in January and to see the light falling snow through the floor to ceiling painted glass windows was picture perfect!Kelli & Michael GarrisonMarried January 2016 Reviewed on 03-05-2016
I have spent the majority of my professional career in the hospitality industry and I love working with clients to create well-executed events & unforgettable experiences. Kirkbride Hall and The Village at Grand Traverse Commons provides the perfect backdrop for your wedding, and I feel lucky to be part of the community here to plan events in a space that has so much history in a beautiful environment. When I am not planning events in Kirkbride Hall, you can find me on adventures with my husband or in our surrounding lakeside towns playing tourist.
