Meaghan Andreano(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 23-07-2022 If you are looking for a really cool, vibey, laid back, urban restaurant wedding, look not further! My husband and I got married at La Brasa in July 2022 and had an amazing experience. We wanted to have a more unique venue, and when we visited La Brasa we knew we needed to have our wedding there. The restaurant is beautiful- plants, art, pretty tables, a cool bar- it has a really nice vibe. This was a huge plus because it was a style we loved, and we didn't have to decorate much. The food is also really good, and the price was very reasonable. We met with Kaitlin who guided us through the whole process. She answered many emails, and was always willing to answer our questions. We started looking for a venue in 2020, originally planned the wedding for 2021, but early on we decided to change it due to covid to 2022 with no problem(we did give plenty of notice), so Kaitlin was in contact with us for 2 years! The day of the wedding everything went great. We had 70 guests. Kaitlin helped us coordinate, and the staff was super friendly and awesome. The food and drinks were SO good- I think almost every single one of our guests made a point to tell us how good the food was. There was a whole section for dancing, and even a little outdoor area if people wanted to go out there. Overall, we are so happy we had our wedding at La Brasa, and its a bonus that we can go back anytime we want:) Reviewed on 30-11-2022
Robin Miller(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 12-11-2022 We fell in love with La Brasa over their chips and guacamole. We had visited several other potential venues, but none compared to the cool, intimate vibe at La Brasa. We worked with Katelyn over the last 12 months to plan everything for the big day. Katelyn was kind, patient, and very knowledgable. She met with us over the phone, in person, and responded to many, many emails from us. Without having an event planner, there was a lot for my fiance and I to figure out, but Katelyn always had great ideas and gave us time to make decisions. Katelyn was also there to guide us through the rehearsal, which greatly calmed my nerves! On the day of Katelyn was responsive and got everyone where they needed to be. She worked with my friends to set up the space and our DJ to keep everything on track. The staff at La Brasa were excellent (as always)! The wait staff and bar tenders were attentive and gracious. The kitchen knocked it out of the park with the food! Matthias took over at the end of the night and was also a pleasure to work with. I can't wait to go back and reminisce. We absolutely would recommend this venue for anyone planning an intimate and heart-felt Somerville wedding. Reviewed on 18-11-2022
Joanne Tsang(bride)3 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 27-08-2022 Had our wedding at La Brasa with ~80 guests, a small/quick ceremony, no assigned seating, stationary and passed food. We paid for an extra hour of dancing (worth it). Mixed feelings about the planning and day-of. PROs: Location/overall venue were great. Decor was perfect for what we wanted, we added signs and centerpieces. Food overall was good (corn, brussels, empanadas, churros), with the exception of a couple of dishes. Appreciated the flexibility with the menu items b/c we didn’t want the traditional sit-down, 3-course meal. The two female bartenders were amazing: accommodating & friendly.CONs: Communication overall with the event manager (Katelyn) could have been much better. For my husband and I, communication and transparency are huge. #1 con was that we were not told ahead of time or day-of that Katelyn was leaving early. I didn’t find out until I was looking for her around 8:30pm that she went home for the night. Our event went until 12:30am. It's fine if something came up, but a heads up from her and an intro to who would be covering for her would have been the professional thing to do. #2 We weren't asked about bottled still and sparkling water. Blue bottles of water were put out as guests arrived. Would have appreciated the staff ask my husband or I before 65 bottles came out after maybe 1 guest agreed to still. Felt sneaky and a wholesale decision was made ($450 fyi) when it could have been pitchers or reusable glass bottles I've seen them use to serve tap water. #3 You'll be charged per head for the tasting. We thought it was included and later saw $141/person in our invoice. Just fyi. #4 The steak skewers we agreed to were almost non-existent, a lot of chicken skewers came out instead. The sweet chili glaze on the fried chicken that we agreed to at the tasting was subbed with a sweetened soy sauce the day-of. The amazing key lime custard we had at the tasting hadn’t set the day-of and guests commented on how soupy it was. #5 Multiple comments from guests: staff weren’t friendly. I thought it was just me when I arrived with our families to set up, but was too distracted to read into it. Staff didn’t say hi, looked like they didn't want to be there, didn’t care that we were there. It was a stark difference from on-site visits and everyone was friendly. Maybe that changes after you’ve paid 95% of the invoice before the event? Finally, this is feedback about the planning process with Katelyn: I understand that La Brasa hosts a lot weddings and events. Couples can ask annoying questions. Try to appreciate that they don’t plan to have other weddings and will be paying you tens of thousands of dollars. Try not to sound condescending and minimize their questions/concerns because you do this for a living and might feel like they’re silly. E.g I asked about stationary food (where it'd be, should I make signs, how will people know) and your response was “if there is food, people will figure out how to find it” which wasn’t helpful at all. Turns out my guests didn’t know there was a whole table of great food in the dark corner next to the DJ table on the other side of the restaurant, when we agreed it would be across the bar right next to the dining tables so it’d be obvious to guests. For couples considering this restaurant: 100% recommend the layout/vibe, bartenders, and food for the most part. Take the cons above as things to look out for and hopefully the staff takes it as constructive feedback to improve on. Reviewed on 11-09-2022
Brian Costain(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 07-11-2021 My wife and I scouted wedding locations throughout 2019 in hopes of finding a reasonably-priced restaurant that could accommodate between 70 and 90 guests. We had dinner at La Brasa after seeing it mentioned as a fun venue for weddings and were impressed by the staff attentiveness, quality of food, and atmosphere. We quickly got in touch with Katelyn, the GM, and learned more about how the business typically accommodates weddings in our scope. We booked our wedding with La Brasa and began planning in early 2020, with an April 2021 wedding date on the planner. You can imagine what happened next.Katelyn and the team were great about keeping us informed on the state of the business and being so accommodating when it came to re-booking our wedding date. We moved it up to November 7th, 2021 and moved ahead with our plans. Thankfully, we'd all be vaccinated in time and the event was well-timed.Katelyn was expertly communicative throughout the process and helped us amend our seating chart to configure tables to fit our guests appropriately. She was great with our feedback around the menu and helped us see to some last-minute amendments to things we wanted to include, and did an amazing job setting up our gifts table with all of the supplies we had for the evening. We truly can't recommend La Brasa enough for an event like ours, or simply for a fun evening of authentic Mexican cuisine. Weddings are stressful events, and a team led by the likes of Katelyn makes so many elements more manageable and the day more enjoyable. Kudos to her, the staff, and the fantastic kitchen personnel who made it an unforgettable evening. We'll be back in the near future! Reviewed on 11-11-2021
Michelle Good(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 10-08-2019 We had our wedding at La Brasa in August 2019. When we were searching for a venue, we wanted a place that needed minimal decoration, had delicious food, and was LGBT-friendly. La Brasa was all that and more! We worked with Katelyn Lewis, and she was attentive, patient, and focused on making everyone feel comfortable. She was extremely knowledgeable, but also willing to adapt the wedding to meet our needs. We had about 100 guests, and the space was the perfect size. We chose to have a small ceremony at the venue in the space that later became the dance floor. Not all our guests could sit for the ceremony, which was fine because we had a short ceremony. One of the best things about getting married at La Brasa is the amazing food and cocktails! Months later our guests are still telling us how much they loved all the food and drinks. Before the event, we had a taste testing at La Brasa and got to speak with the chef about any concerns. A few of our guests had severe allergies, and he was able to make special adjustments to the menu. On the wedding day, we had appetizers and cocktails before the ceremony for our guests. We requested tortilla chips and salsa/guacamole, which is not on their regular menu. The chips were homemade, and the salsa and guacamole tasted very fresh. For the main course, we chose to have the meals served family style, as per Katelyn’s recommendation. Our guests really liked this because all the food came out hot and fresh, and they got to try lots of different things. We especially enjoyed the chopped salad, the Brussel sprouts, the chicken, and the fish. We also had their dulce de leche cake and late night snacks, and both were a big hit. The event was well staffed, so no one had to wait long for food or drinks, and the night moved very smoothly. Overall, it was a fantastic day and we couldn’t have asked for a better venue/staff! All the vendors that we hired connected with Katelyn independently and had great experiences. We did cocktail hour, ceremony, dinner and dancing, we had 55 guest and everyone complemented the food and the drinks, if you are looking for a stress free night, this is the place you are looking for. The venue is beautiful, the atmosphere was just amazing -- we still get compliments from guests on how delicious the food was, and how wonderful the space was. It's hard to put into words how amazing this place is, but please go check it out! Andrew Silva(groom)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 15-06-2015 We had a small wedding reception— 18 people I think— at La Brasa, in 2015. I used to be a chef, and my wife spent a long time as a server and restaurant manager (neither one of us have worked for La Brasa or any of the owners in their other restaurants,) so we're both pretty picky, but we coudn't be happier with the way it went. Everything from the service, to the food was absolutely on-point. All of the dishes were served family style in a series of impressively laid-out courses which gave it the feel of a royal feast. Most of the guests said it was the best wedding meal they've ever had, and having been to at least a dozen weddings, I'd be surprised if that wasn't the case. The two vegetarians in the group definitely missed out on the roast, ribeyes, fish, charcuterie, etc. but they each were given plenty of delicious things to eat. Given, with such a small wedding, we could afford to spend a little more per-guest than most people, and the restaurant wouldn't have the logistical problems of trying to feed 100 people at once, but considering they were open for their regular Saturday night dinner service while they served us, I imagine that going there with a big crowd would still be a great experience. Emily Brown(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 07-07-2018 We had a wonderful 100 person wedding at La Brasa. Our wedding included a brief ceremony, cocktail hour followed by dinner at dancing. Katelyn and the team were very easy to work with and also had great ideas/suggestions. Highly recommended. Food: Fantastic! So many compliments from our guests. The ability to do a full pig roast was a huge draw for us. Their cooking style lends itself well to a wide range of tastes & preferences. Drinks: La Brasa has a full bar, and we were able to pre-select a few choice items to have on open bar at our wedding. They also had a signature cocktail that was the brides request. Service: Great! Food came out quick and they set up/down tables quickly. They did a good job communicating during the ceremony without being intrusive. There were several special touches they added that helped make the day special. Venue: We loved the aesthetics of the restaurant and found that the size was perfect for our group of ~100. The restaurant design speaks for itself, so we didn't add a ton of decorationsPricing: There's a lot of flexibility depending on what type of food/dishes you want to serve. There are no \"hidden fees\". There is also no venue fee, you simply pay per plate/drink. This is definitely a more coast effective option than most venues in Boston when you consider all the costs typically associated with a wedding. Overall: If you're looking for a cool spot with delicious food that is reasonably priced, look no further than La Brasa! Reviewed on 22-07-2018
Sally Vanture(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 21-04-2018 We loved La Brasa! It was exactly what we wanted in a reception venue - relaxed environment with great food (it was delicious)! The staff was amazing and we got compliments all night on how courteous and attentive they were. Katelyn made the planning process a breeze and I couldn’t recommend her more highly. Paige Thornton(bride)1 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 20-07-2019 Let me start out by saying the La Brasa is a very beautiful and unique restaurant, it was exactly what we were looking for in a venue. Unfortunately, the management was not on the same page. I was emailing back and forth with the opperations manager, Meredith and was quoted a reasonable price for food and beverage minimum. Meredith was aware of my exact date and guest count before she gave me that price as well. A few days later we scheduled to see the venue with the general manager Katelyn. Katelyn was a half hour late to our appointment. When she finally arrived we sat down and started talking about the basics of our wedding. After a few minutes she got to pricing and quoted us $12,000 MORE than the opperations manager did just a few days ago. I showed her the messages I exchanged with Meredith, the operations manager, and her response was that Meredith was expecting a baby soon and apparently wasn’t thinking straight.... Needless to say the hour we sat in traffic, half hour wait for Katelyn, and the hour ride home in traffic was a waste. Reviewed on 31-03-2018
Duncan Lawrence(groom)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 07-12-2017 If you want to have your wedding/reception/private party in a place with personality, filled with staff who will make your event happen and a chef who knows how to cook food your guests will rave about, La Brasa is the only place you need to consider. One of the great things about La Brasa is that the space itself - if it’s your style, you really don’t need to do much to enjoy the environment. All we did was have our florist (Wilfolk Flowers) bring in some small table arrangements and votives/garland for the windows. Just like that, the space was exactly what we wanted.Throughout the night we kept getting compliments from our family and friends (the people who know us best), saying how the reception, the food, the space, the atmosphere was so us, so perfectly. It was one of the best compliments that we could have received that evening. We worked with both Meredith (event manager) and Kelly (restaurant manager) to help make the night possible. Meredith was so accommodating, allowing us into the restaurant early in the planning process to take measurements and photos. She helped us plan the menu and figure out the nuts-and-bolts of how the evening would be put together.Kelly was our night-of point person for everything, and she made everything go so smoothly. We had a couple requests, mostly just to keep track of time and make sure that we stayed on schedule-ish, but she went above-and-beyond to make sure that we didn’t have to worry about anything all night. She took care of every detail we could think of, plus many that we hadn’t considered. She did so much to make the night wonderful - it wouldn’t have been the same without her.The staff working that night were welcoming, accommodating, and incredibly friendly - which was very important for us in order to have the type of reception we had hoped for. They were quick with offering to get anything for a guest, fun to talk with, and willing to make a joke when appropriate. We were even greeted with a glass of bubbly to toast our big day, before the guests arrived - exactly what we needed to celebrate privately before the big event. As always, Chef Daniel Bojorquez and his team were on-point. They crafted plate after plate of delicious food for us and our guests. If there was a single complaint about the evening, it was that there was just too much delicious food - everyone wanted to eat more and try another bite. They were happy to accommodate any dietary restrictions or requests - our 7-year-old nephew chowed down on a bowl of buttered noodles, happy as can be!Eating family-style helped make the evening special. Instead of feeling overly formal between new family and reuniting friends into a completely relaxed meal, full of sharing and lively discussion. It was what you hope to have happen, but can never seem to plan on - but La Brasa made it possible. If we had any suggestions for having your wedding reception or party at La Brasa it is this: let La Brasa do what they do best. They are the best at making guests have a wonderful time, eat delicious food, and enjoy the experience. They did so much to make our night special - we absolutely made the right choice with La Brasa. It could not have been a better venue, with the best food, and amazing staff anywhere else. The communication with staff members leading up to the reception was fluid and attentive, and our guests after the reception kept mentioning how lovely the staff was throughout the night. The space itself is perfect for someone in the city who is looking for a \"barn\" \"country\" \"farm\" feel that is right in Boston's back yard, and it comfortably fit the 100 people we had attend. The food was out of this world, and after tasting with the Chef he was willing to work with our wants and needs, any food issues, and had amazing recommendations throughout, and the one thing that guests keep raving about is the food - they all said they \"never had wedding food that amazing\".
