Proudly situated in Pontiac, MI, the Lafayette Grande is an elegant wedding venue for sophisticated nuptial festivities. Built in the ‘20s, this open and airy hall with its splendid interiors transports couples and their guests to another era, though without the prohibition. With fantastic staircases, an antique elevator, and extraordinary architectural details throughout, this event center gets the party twisting and turning in glamor.
Constructed in 1923, this building has served as a Masonic temple, the Oakland county government building, and a site for restaurants. Since 1977 it has functioned as a banquet hall, providing couples with full-service catering and a historic reception venue. The largest of the Lafayette Grande’s halls, the Grande Ballroom, is able to host a wedding celebration of up to 500 guests, for a true evening in extravagant grandeur. Also available are the Crystal and Lafayette Ballrooms, with all three event spaces designed in a similar classic style.
Ornate swirling columns and molding adorn the ballroom walls, all of which are carefully restored and preserved. To tone down the intricate embellishments for a more understated look, the spaces are painted in washes of white, pale blue, and pastel yellow. Distinctive amongst many ballrooms, there are multiple floors with balconies and elevated seating areas. For smaller events, they have the Pontiac Lounge, with marbled floors and rich wood walls, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. No matter the space a couple chooses, the rooms are sure to delight and enthrall guests for a memorable evening.
At the Lafayette Grande, couples can avail of their refined and expansive selection of food and decorations. Buffet, family-style, and plated are all options, as well as desserts and late-night snacks to keep guests fed throughout the evening. The linen and place setting assortments are enormous. With an abundance of hues and different sized tables, couples can create table layouts that speak to their vision. If none of these are suitable, couples are more than welcome to bring in their own decorators. An on-site kitchen ensures that the cuisine prepared that evening is fresh. Valet and free parking are provided for guest convenience. In addition, get ready rooms allow the wedding party to prepare in comfort.
Cannot express in words how awesome everyone at the Lafayette Grande is, We fell in love with the Crystal Ballroom when we first walked in and We knew we had to get married there. This place needs almost little to no decorating, it is that magical. Our guest couldn't stop complimenting the space and the food. 100/10 would recommend Reviewed on 13-11-2023

We LOVED Lafayette Grande so much and would have our reception there again!! From the time we first walked in, they were welcoming, friendly, and wanted to make our day perfect for us. Greg took time to give us a tour of the entire venue and answer our never ending lists of questions. As soon as we walked out, we knew this was our venue. Leading up to the wedding, they were very helpful with questions and the taste tests were an awesome way to get a delicious and affordable meal and get a heads up for the wedding. Also, since we booked within a week and got married in April, they made sure we knew of all their deals and we got a ton of extra perks. The wedding itself was everything we dreamed of. They worked with us to accommodate our special cultural customs (Chaldean and Italian wedding) and Greg, Ryan, and Lauren checked in with us before and during the night to make sure everything was perfect. Overall, the food was delicious, service and staff outstanding, venue historic and unique, and easy to customize to make your dream day a reality (they will really work with you for whatever vision you may have). The wedding venue search was a long & challenging one for us. We were torn between wanting a beautiful ballroom & wanting 250 guests and it didn't seem like we could afford both. We searched all over metro-Detroit until, finally, we found the Lafayette Grande. They have it all; a gorgeous grande ballroom, high ceilings, historical significance and very affordable pricing. We were able to invite even more than our 250 guests!! The owners of the Lafayette Grande truly care about each couple they work with. You never feel like just another transaction. They worked with us for the look we wanted - even making a 40 person captains table for us! They met with us as often as we liked and patiently & timely responded to our 1 million questions. They even called me personally during the holidays to let me know that, despite the business being closed for Christmas, they had everything ready to go for our wedding and not to worry. The day of, they were professional, attentive & efficient. The venue was beautiful, they asked my husband and I for our preferred drinks and had them waiting for us at the head table. My wife and I have received endless compliments about the venue, their food, and their staff, all of which were valid. The food tasting format is genius, and our suggestion here is to try the dishes that aren’t on your typical wedding menu i.e. the warm potato salad and the chicken paprikash! The staff kindly helped change our date when we decided to push our wedding due to COVID concerns and everything went down without a problem. The planning stages were very communicative and rarely did calls go to voicemail and all emails were answered promptly. On the day of staff was present, available, helpful, and professional. Particularly the bar staff, they were fantastic! The day after was another example of professional hospitality as we had some items to pick up that we had arranged to leave overnight (as well as some items we forgot to take) and even on a Sunday we were helped getting all of our things from the building. The building itself is old, full of charm, and has numerous photo opportunities. The owners and the staff here with take such good care of you if it's the last thing they do. We unfortunately had no power on our wedding day by no fault of The Lafayette Grande, but boy did they kick butt. They could have cancelled on us or asked us to reschedule but they didn't, they still made my wedding happen and I couldn't be more grateful. With the few generators we had we were able to power a few things like some of the kitchen and some lights and the DJ but the ac was out and so was the elevator which was a problem being as we were on the fourth floor. These people actually carried any and all guests unable to make the climb themselves. Did you hear me? They carried my cousin, wheelchair and all, up four flights of stairs and then back down again when she wanted to leave. These people carried crates of drinks and food all night long from the kitchen in the basement all the way to the fourth floor. Shelby Caron(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 21-05-2021 This is a long review but I need to give credit where credit is due. The Lafayette Grande staff is PHENOMENAL and nothing less. My husband and I have been through a lot with the Lafayette. We were originally supposed to have our wedding there in June of 2020, and were SO excited to do so. Because of COVID, we not only had to postpone, but downsize our wedding. Therefore, we could no longer have our wedding at the Lafayette. While we were super bummed that we couldn't use their amazing venue, we did however still want them to be apart of the day. Since their food is top notch, we opted to use their catering service. Ryan and Greg were so gracious in letting us use our deposits to have them cater part of our new wedding. LET. ME. TELL. YOU. Best decision we've ever made. We ended up getting a pig, vegetable lasagna, a bananas foster station, bar service, servers and bartenders. We were so surprised when the entire Kosch family graced us with their presence that day. And talk about service! Ryan, Greg, Robert and Lauren went over and above anything we could have ever expected. I even found out after the fact that they had someone bring up their CO² system because one of our kegs wasn't flowing very well. We are beyond blown away by how wonderful this family is at what they do. Our guests raved about them the entire night. They provided absolutely delicious food, ridiculously good drinks, and even entertainment. Yes, you heard that right. I have never heard of a conga line forming for a dessert but they made it happen. Everyone LOVED it. I am still getting calls about how amazing the food and service was. They are all very wonderful people and treat you like you've been apart of their family forever. As a bride and groom, to not have to worry about anything on your wedding day is worth its weight in gold. We didn't have to worry about a thing with them, they ran the show like they owned the place and we both are forever grateful for the Kosch family. We would have loved to have our wedding at the Lafayette, but we are so grateful that you were still able to be apart of our special day! Sarah DiStefano(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 28-12-2019 Who would have thought that there was a hidden gem in downtown Pontiac? The Lafayette Grande is an old masonic temple built in the 1920s and is absolutely stunning, a lot of our local guests were really impressed! Lauren, Greg, and the staff was also incredibly flexible and accommodating and we were so glad to go with a venue where we could do both the ceremony and reception in one place (we were in the Grande Ballroom). Even with upgrades (i.e. chiavari chairs, extra bar hour and upgrade, extra apps) their per person cost is really affordable compared to options you'd get in downtown Detroit. We went with a pork loin with apple chutney option which was probably my favorite but the rest was pretty standard wedding fare. We did family-style dinner and all the food seemed to come out on time and at the right temp. We added an extra bottled beer option to the bar since my husband is a bit craft beer fan and it was nice because whatever was unopened we got to keep. They even gave us a case of beer from the previous wedding since that couple forgot to take it. The groomsmen got ready on site in their Pontiac Lounge space and they had another case of beer, lunch, and snacks set-up for them pretty much at cost. The service staff was great and they helped to corral people for ceremony/dinner, open/shut main doors for the ceremony, and help navigate the old elevator. They even plated and set out our dessert table, even though we went with other vendors for the dessert. Probably my only complaint throughout the entire process was that they notify you of their monthly tastings a bit last minute (within 1-2 weeks), so it was a bit tricky trying to schedule to attend one since we were out-of-state, but I totally get it if most of their clients are local. Overall, it was nice to have a venue be really flexible and affordable, especially in regards to how we could set up the space and how we wanted to run things. Thanks for making our wedding day so special! Reviewed on 04-01-2020

On our wedding day the food was even better than any of the tastings we had been to. We picked the roasted beef and carved pork butt which were both delicious, but the vegetarian alfredo lasagna is one of the best dishes I have ever had and was a huge hit! All of the staff was super friendly and helpful the night of our wedding. The venue is family owned and they were all helpful during the entire process. The venue itself is a 4 or 5 out of 5. The service was a one or two out of five. We booked the 4th and 5th floor of this venue for our wedding. Starting out our arrival the elevator attendant told us he could only take 1 more in the elevator, causing a groomsman and his wife to have to take the 4 flights of stairs, then the elevator went down to the basement and picked up two guys who I assume own the place. The bartender didn't know how to make drinks, didn't know how to make a Tito's and Water, when someone asked for a Pinot Noir, she grabbed a Pinot Grigio. They also only had 1 bartender working for 150 people. It seemed like the servers didn't have anyone in charge. They decided it was time to serve food during the Best Man speech and my Mom had to tell them like 5 times to stop serving so she could hear what he was saying. The late night snack, coney dogs and pizza, looked disgusting. They left it unattended and the chili started to burn because they didn't put a water tray underneath to keep it from over heating. All in All, people had a great time, but they need to have a staff member in charge, every staff member looked frazzled, I had several different staff members coming up to me asking me things. We had our wedding reception here on the 4th and 5th floor in the crystal ballroom and every moment of the night was absolute PERFECTION! The bartenders were quick and accurate, kept the line down and the drinks flowing. The appetizers were delicious and beautiful, dinner was superb and served right on time, and all the staff was professional and helpful. They had chairs for us for the hora, and made sure to check in with us about how it was going. Every moment leading up to the party we felt like we were kept in the loop and it was so stress free. Lauren Sanchez-Murphy(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 31-12-2017 My husband and I are so incredibly happy that we selected the Lafayette Grande for our ceremony and reception venue! Our wedding was on NYE so we knew we needed to pick a location that was beautiful on the inside because no one would be going outside at the end of December and, because it gets dark around 6:00 p.m., even if people did go outside, there'd be nothing to see! The Lafayette Grande is a masonic temple from the 1920's and the owners have carefully and meticulously maintained the original beauty and décor of the location and the rooms. We got married in the fourth floor, Crystal Ballroom, which is so unique and gorgeous! The ballroom is tiered so it looks like a cabaret/dinner theater. One of my biggest complaints with weddings is when you can't see the bride and groom because of the layout of the room but because of the tiered seating in our ballroom, everyone could see everything going on in the room at all times. Not only is the venue itself beautiful but the staff is wonderful - the level of customer service we received was excellent! The owners of the venue involve themselves in every aspect of its operations to ensure their clients are happy with their wedding, event, etc. Finally, the food is fantastic! They started out as a catering company and eventually purchased the Lafayette Grande so they could offer full-service events to their clients. The owners are Hungarian so their traditional Hungarian dishes were absolutely incredible! (The chicken paprikash was my favorite!) Reviewed on 13-01-2018
Audrey Jeglic(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 16-12-2017 I couldn't imagine having our reception anywhere else. With that being said, the Lafayette Grande staff is not your typical wedding venue staff. They are super down to earth and talk to you like a friend, not a potential client. I implore you to look past their rough exterior and book this venue. The owners were absolutely amazing to work with and I don't think they could have possibly been more accommodating. I had a few concerns about the room and they thanked me for giving them the opportunity to address them and fixed the problems within a few weeks. If we needed anything at all, they said \"no problem!\" and we didn't worry about it again. I can't say enough good things about the Lafayette Grande and its staff or thank them enough for making our day completely perfect.Oh, and the food at our wedding was significantly better than at the tastings! I think the food at the tastings is left from events they have those nights. It was good, but not great when we tried it at the tastings. The food on our wedding day was GREAT! We had herb baked chicken, black angus roast beef (which guests are still raving about 3 days later), pasta, green beans, and roasted red skin potatoes. Every item was absolutely delicious. They do a tasting once a month and you can go as many months as you like. The food at the tastings was inconsistent and definitely tasted like standard banquet hall food. That being said, the day of the wedding the food was amazing! Presentation was 5 times better, and we were very happily surprised. It was almost like someone entirely different cooked for the wedding day. \r\rFrom what I understand, front of house is primarily run by Greg. From my experience he was terribly unorganized. No one ever answers the phone, and it's like pulling teeth to get them to call you back. Email is the most effective way to communicate, especially since you can easily keep record of who you spoke with, the subject matter of the conversation, and when you spoke with them. Every meeting that I set up I ended up having with Ryan (chef and back of house manager), because Greg had either forgotten or there was a miscommunication. At the end of the day, it was probably for the best! Ryan is amazing and was the primary reason that everything went so smooth during my event. \r\rThe staff was amazing, very welcoming and totally willing to help with anything we needed. \r\rOver all, it was an amazing day and they made it that way. \r\rIf you're thinking about this venue, just stay organized and on top of your game. As a history major and lover of beautiful architecture, as soon as we walked into the Crystal Ballroom I knew that I wanted elegance to be the theme, and this room to be the setting. What made it even more special was that the food was divine, and while it was a little pricier than some of the other places we looked at, it was worth the deliciousness that was the food, and the atmosphere. Plus, Greg gave us an extra discount on the large number of children who came :) \r There is no bad seat in the house. Even our friends who we had to put in the mezzanine told us how they felt that they had the best seats, even though they were \"in the back\". The waitstaff was nice and courteous the entire night. And the gentlemen who helped us from start to finish (Ryan and Greg I do believe) were awesome. From the moment we signed with them during which we received two free steaks and two bottles of wine, to the 2 tastings we went to, to the day of where we were served by Greg personally, we were blown away by the service. And the icing on the cake was that they sent us away with croissant sandwhiches and a bottle of champagne which we absolutely needed after a long night dancing and then hanging out in our hotel room before we went to the hotel and on to the airport a couple of hours later. \r The only thing that put a little glitch in the night was that our wedding cake wasn't cut until about an hour before the end of the night, and unfortunately due to us mingling with the guests and not paying quite enough attention we didn't notice until many of the guests had left. However, considering that was the only \"bad\" thing that happened over the course of the night, we'll take it! \r The Lafayette Grande was wonderful, I was told by my guests who went on the Sunset Patio to get some air (I unfortunately was unable to make it out) that it was awesome to spend some time breathing in the fresh air before coming back in, helping themselves to our open bar and getting down on the gorgeous dance floor. Regardless of budget, I think anyone would be happy to have their reception here. Greg and his team are awesome. Reviewed on 13-07-2011

gina dew(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 21-07-2007 I loved our room. It was absolutly beautiful, it had tiered dinner seating and was decorated from the early 1900's, so it looked like a palace. I loved the staff, they were so friendly and spent a lot of time making sure we were happy. They even let us stay later than in our contract because we were late due to pictures. All of my guests raved about them!;If you are afraid of elevators- their elevator is very old. I liked it because it set the mood as if you were stepping back in time, but it scared some of my bridesmaids. Reviewed on 25-08-2007
