From the moment we visited the Marriott we felt that we could work with her and if we had any questions she would reply and assist us through the process. She was reachable, personable and very insightful the months leading up the wedding. She provided us with all the documentation to make our choice and she also kept us organized. The Marriott was the place for our venue and ceremony we received so many compliments on everything. My husband and I did not have to handle any of the decorating we were just able to check in, have our rehearsal and enjoy the times leading up to our day! The food was delicious (as the bride I did get to try and eat some lol). The personnel made sure we ate which was a big plus! She worked with our vendors and the day was a great success! Emilie Thomas(bride)3 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 05-09-2021 I've been to this hotel many times for previous dance conventions and have always loved it, but I've got to say I was a bit disappointed with our overall experience this time around. PROS: Beautiful hotel and corner suite. Amazing food, both during rehearsal and brunch.Young servers during rehearsal dinner were so kind.CONS: The Keurig in our suite was broken. How????Many miscommunications and hiccups; nobody knew that my husband and I were the bride and groom during check-in, except for one younger gal who took over and made us feel very welcomed. I wish I kept her name because she was great.Reserved private rooftop brunch only offered from 9-11am, kind of inconvenient morning hours after our wedding. We had many who didn't make it but were already prepaid for. The cleanup crew also felt like they were pushing us out. Reviewed on 12-09-2021

The ceremony/ballroom site was GORGEOUS! From the rehearsal dinner in the Montgomery House to the wedding day itself (bridal suite was lovely) to the morning after breakfast in the Conestoga Room.. we and our guests were treated like royalty. Melinda S(bride)3 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 20-07-2018 We recently had both our ceremony and reception in the Heritage Ballroom and were very pleased with how the day turned out. We really enjoyed the scenic downtown view, the flexibility to make the space our own and the on-site facilities (Bridal Suite and Charter Board Room) available for both wedding parties to get ready in. We had a few bumps along the way: our wedding coordinator switching, some miscommunication and our biggest issues was handling our room block. We were told to only book a few rooms at a time and were assured that we wouldn't have any issues adding more. Before we knew it, the entire hotel was sold out and we weren't even notified in order to plan accordingly. This lead us to have our guests split over multiple hotels. Overall, we really enjoyed, the food and drink options, the day of service (every last detail was handled) and the very inclusive packages available. The Downtown location gives easy access to many different attractions that the city has to offer and can definitely keep guests entertained. We definitely recommend the Marriott, especially if you're looking for inclusive packages and getting the most out of your money. Reviewed on 21-03-2019

Amanda VanDixon(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 20-05-2017 Thank you, Lancaster Marriott at Penn Square for hosting our wedding reception! It was truly the happiest day of our lives! Jenny Mercandetti was our wedding coordinator - She is quite honestly THE BEST at her job and is all around a magical person! We got ready in the Bridal Parlor, had our cocktail hour in the atrium on the second floor, our reception in the Commonwealth Ballroom, and our room block at the hotel. The Bridal Parlor was perfect for the ladies to prep - I had 9 women in my wedding party (plus my Mother & Aunt joined us) and there was plenty of room for everyone to get ready. The pictures taken in that room were beautiful. The private cocktail hour was a little neglected (We missed some of the passed hors devours and ran out of booz quickly). However, this was no big deal - We just raided the main cocktail party! The reception in the Commonwealth was perfect. The uplighting was beautiful. The staff was attentive. The room was fabulous! Such a wonderful party! The hotel rooms were great - Our room had rose petals on the floor & bed, cold champagne, and chocolate covered strawberries inside! Many of our guests spent the night in the Marriott as well. I can't imagine our wedding reception anywhere else - Thank you Jenny & the team at the Lancaster Marriott at Penn Square for making my wedding day one that I want to relive EVERY DAY! Brittany Reibsome(bride)1 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 15-10-2016 We used the Marriott for our room block, and also for our farewell brunch for our guests (not our wedding). The room block went well, besides the front desk routinely forgetting to give out the welcome bags we had made for our guests. This review is mainly for the breakfast afterwards which was located on the 3rd floor of the Montgomery House. I am embarrassed that I had my friends and family come to a breakfast that was so disorganized. First, there was no sign as to where the breakfast was being held. I had to stand by the stairs and keep a look out for my guests. We had 60 guests for breakfast, but only 40 seats. Jenny said people usually come in over time, but this was not the case. Everyone came at once. It was a terrible idea to expect that to happen and not have seating for everyone just in case. There were only 2 waitresses, who were always leaving to get something from the kitchen(which took about 15 minutes for them to return). MY own parents had to clean tables because the waitresses were not cleaning them. We ran out of coffee and coffee cups constantly. The room was sweltering, and no one seemed to know how to change the temperature. No one of management status checked in on us during the event, we were left at the hands of 2 waitresses who wanted to be anywhere but our event. The worst part?? We reached out to Marriott management and the coordinator who planned all of this, and never heard back. Beyond disappointed with the Marriott and their staff. Thank god we didn't have our actual wedding here as I'm sure the service would have been just as bad. AVOID! Reviewed on 10-11-2016

Anonymous (wedding party)2 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 06-06-2015 The Marriott, specifically Jenny their wedding coordinator, did a fabulous job up until dinner service. We planned very detail utilizing many wonderful vendors communicating for months to ensure all went well. Unfortunately all fell apart about 30 minutes into the reception. Our meal service took over two hours with some of our guests not even receiving their meals. It was hit or miss if our guests even received a meal. Wait staff was clearly undertrained and understaffed. No water or coffee was ever offered. Despite our requests made months, days and even hours before, meat was served virtually raw. Wait staff argued with our guests over their meal choice. Bartenders were not trained with one indicating its my first day! Specialty drinks planned for were never even discussed with bartenders, thus no consistency in mixing! Specialty cookies meant to be placed at each place setting were forgetten until asked about! Late night snack failed miserably as many were still dining on their meals! Marriott will acknowledge something went terribly wrong... What who knows! Despite our requests, they won't tell! Sure they gave a partial refund... In essence an amount charged for those having a non-Saturday event..,oh boy.. You can be sure the Marriott is still in the black while our nightmares still continue! Stay away if you want your guests to enjoy a wonderful meal! Reviewed on 01-07-2015

I did all of my own centerpieces and favors for the wedding (which were all delivered by my bridesmaids and I, but carried upstairs by some awesome staff members) and was so amazed at how beautifully they were presented on tables when we arrived in the reception hall. Jenny eased every concern we had about planning (and I am a very over-anxious bride!) including a 5 a.m. panic attack when I realized my bridesmaids were going to go without lunch. She kept everything as cost-effective as possible and made the day run perfectly. There wasn't a single surprise or snag in the day. chrysanthi karpouzis(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 18-08-2013 Where do I begin my review of the Lancaster Marriott at Penn Square? I had the wedding of my dreams at the Marriott last month. Our coordinator, Jenny, was very helpful in executing every detail of that day. She was very prompt from the beginning in responding to all of our questions, and getting responses to ones she did not know. She went way above and beyond what a normal coordinator at a hotel would do. (As I have had other events held at different hotels.) The staff at my wedding reception were all courteous and professional. All of the food was delicious, including hors d'oeuvres! It came out piping hot, which I personally have never had at a hotel event before. The bridal party even had its own private holding room, where we were served alcoholic drinks and appetizers prior to entering the banquet room. Megan Neff(bride)2 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 22-06-2013 This was a beautiful site for our reception and the food was delicious. However, we were disappointed in the difference between what we were promised and what we received. None of our guests with dietary issues were given plated meals at our buffet reception, and the following day staff could not locate our items from the reception which resulted in extra trips to pick things up after the event. Several of our guests also had issues with their hotel rooms under our block. Sue Mcadams(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 10-11-2012 The Wedding packages at the Marriott were very reasonably priced and included lots of extras such as a complimentary hotel room and breakfast, 5 hr open bar, ice sculpture, free cake cutting and champagne toast. And you get a free hotel room on your 1st anniversary as well! \r\rOne of my favorite things is that the cocktail hour is held outside of the major ballroom overlooking the brick interior of the old Watt and Shand building and a large glass wall overlooking the city. The bridal party had it's own room during the cocktail hour in which to unwind with it's own appetizers and drinks. This time alone was much needed after the craziness of the day. \r\rThe food was amazing and we received tons of compliments throughout the evening. The hotel itself is new and has a modern decor and is absolutely gorgeous. The service was top notch and not only did we have our own wedding coordinater to help plan everything leading up the wedding, we also had a bridal attendant and banquet chief overseeing everything the night of. After the reception, the guests went directly down to the bar inside the hotel. The hotel is directly downtown so there were other bars within walking distance too for the after party. All in all I highly recommend using the Marriott because not only is the quality and service top notch but you will also get a lot of bang for you buck. You won't be disappointed.\r\rThe only problem we ran into was running out of rooms for our block but that was my fault because they suggested I add more and I didn't at that time. They did come through for us though and find us additional rooms after a couple of days even though there was a big convention that weekend as well. If you use the Marriott just be sure to block enough rooms and find out in advance if there is a big convention! Reviewed on 28-11-2012

Stephanie Cleaves(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 14-04-2012 I used the Marriott at Penn Square for my wedding room block plan. The ONLY disappointment was the stress in getting enough guests to use the block of rooms I had reserved. Once you reserve the block you are required to have at least 80% of your rooms reserved by guests, otherwise you have to pay the difference in cost. So, basically I learned going with the Marriott is a good option IF you reserve less rooms than you expect because you can always add more rooms to your block if need be, but you cannot take rooms away once they are reserved. Fortunately, I had enough guests reserve rooms at the Marriott and they only had wonderful things to say about the hotel. Reviewed on 01-05-2012
Nicolette Rodgers(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 24-09-2011 We originally wanted an outdoor venue for our wedding, but when we walked into the Marriott and experienced all it had to offer, we were sold on it. It really was a special and gorgeous venue that exceeded our expectations. The Marriott also over delivered on our requests. We asked for several special day of requests and they exceeded each on one! Execution and organization was flawless. We were set up w/ Megan Harbold and when she exited, Sarah Heath took care of us. She was such a fantastic planner and kept things organized that I didnt need to hire a separate day-of planner! There were several times that we had a slight delay in communication, but given all the events that they handled, it was understandable. However most importantly, the week of our wedding all eyes were on us and even the tiniest of details were handled...and exceeded! She was late to the wedding rehearsal by over 30 minutes and didn't show up to the bridal party room untili 10 minutes before the ceremony was supposed to start! The signage to direct guests in the lobby wasn't put up until one of the groomsmen informed the front desk and the list goes on... The ceremony ended a bit early and my dad had to track her down to get her to give permission to the bartenders to begin serving drinks early during the cocktail hour immediately following even though this was discussed in advance and we were told it wouldn't be an issue... guests were confused and wondering what was going on for about 15 minutes after the ceremony because there was no one to direct them what to do since the wedding coordinator was MIA! We were also reassured that she wasn't dedicated to any other events that night which was a complete lie because we found out there were several other events going on at the same venue and she was running around to all of them the whole night which made it extremely difficult to find her if we needed something. Given the price you pay for this venue, the service was not up to par at ALL! Reviewed on 12-09-2011
