Lumber Exchange Event Center Reviews

We were lucky enough to work with the Lumber Exchange for our wedding. They were reasonably priced and we liked that we did not need to get extra vendors for rentals because tables, linens, and food/drinks were all at the venue. It made planning very easy! Hannah helped leading up to the day and she was so incredible and responsive to work with. The day of the event and the night before, we worked with Tyler and he was amazing. The bar staff was so friendly and fun on the night of our wedding-we could not have asked for a better experience. We got so many compliments on the venue aesthetic. We were close enough to travel towards St. Anthony Main to get photos, but with how iconic and beautiful the venue is, you would not need to. With it being a November wedding, we were able to highlight the space with candles and the ambiance was all that I could ask for and more. Overall, such a great experience. The other plus is that we had two hotels within walking distance so we did not need to pay for transportation to and from a venue! Cannot speak highly enough about the Lumber Exchange. From the moment we stepped into the building on our first tour, we knew this was the place we were going to get married, and I am so glad we did! Lumber Exchange was a fantastic venue! We got married in the Fountain Room on 10/7/23 and we are still getting compliments on how gorgeous it was from friends and family. From our very first online inquiry until the very end, we worked with Hannah P. and she was the best! She answered every question we had no matter how big or small, and was so accommodating to every request - not to mention she was so easy to connect with over email or phone. The planning emails they send out make the planning process feel so much less daunting and even kind of fun - I always looked forward to what my next planning tasks would be. The day of staff on the wedding day were fabulous as well, and made the day feel so effortless. My only one small negative, which is not even the venues fault, was that on the night of the rehearsal, the music from the Pourhouse bar inside the venue was very loud as we were trying to do mingle, do toasts, etc. This was something I did not anticipate, however the staff at LX were able to quickly get us a microphone no questions asked. Again, more of something we just didn't anticipate vs the venues fault. We would recommend them over and over - it was truly the best day! âĄĚ Reviewed on 10-11-2023

We have so many good things to say about our experience with the lumber exchange! We worked with Will H. throughout the planning process and he was there to help us every step of the way. Any question or concern we had, he was quick to answer or help guide us in the right direction. If we had one negative, it would be the food service. The service was delayed about an hour, which made the break hours we had set up for the open bar and photo booth get a little bit messed up, and also delayed some of our own picture opportunities. I completely understand being flexible, but it definitely put a pretty big wrench in the rest of the schedule. If anything, it would have been nice if they could have adjusted the open bar to coordinate with the delay in the dinner service. Other than that, we really did enjoy the food itself and loved every minute we got to spend celebrating!! Even with the delay, we were super happy with the overall experience and would do it all over again! :) Reviewed on 01-07-2023

We booked with the Lumber Exchange for our wedding. My now wife and I are extremely pleased with the services we received and would recommend that anyone book with them too.As one may expect our wedding venue was the first major choice we made. As such we had been working with the Lumber Exchange Event Center team for months before the big day. Of particular note - Hannah was nothing short of amazing. Hannah was our account executive and was truly amazing to work with. Her communication, professionalism, attention to detail, and upbeat attitude provided us so much value through our experience. It's safe to say that both my wife and I were fairly demanding customers and felt anxious through various phases of wedding preparation. Hannah helped reassure us time and time again by answering our questions, guiding with experience, and being flexible throughout the process. We ended up having both our rehearsal and wedding ceremony/reception at the Lumber Exchange Event Center. The event space is beautiful indoor venue especially great for unpredictable Minnesota weather. The inside itself didn't much else decor from us as it already has a great atmosphere with the tall ceiling skylight, huge warm brick wall, fountain feature, and more. The proximity to the more recent light rail makes transportation a tad complicated; however, directions are clear and the venue has a multiple parking/valet options at various price tiers. The venue's food options provided good variety, the tasting options ahead of time helped us choose our favorite food, and in the end our guests had great things to say about the food. Our guest count ended up being around 100 guests and the Fountain Room of the venue provided ample space for this. The adjoining River Room provided a great bar space and still had ample room to handle the transition period between wedding and reception. The onsite venue staff handled the room turnover quickly and efficiently. For music the venue has their own sound/mic system as well as a some great spots for a separate DJ to setup (both options we took advantage of). We would highly recommend Lumber Exchange to anyone looking to make their wedding event a success! Reviewed on 04-05-2023

They let us do many walkthroughs with out of town family and to help plan. The day of was spectacular. The bridal suite was the perfect place to hang out and get ready. The space looked stunning with the flowers and lights and everything was set up with plenty of time. The only note that we didnât realize was that because it was Halloween weekend there was pretty loud club music that you could hear through the floor including during the ceremony. The food the day of was great we did salmon chicken and risotto. Cons - if you are a big foodie this is not a huge priority for them. We got to try 5 entrees total during our tastings which during we had to actually ask to try the soups and salads because they weren't originally offered. Courtney Johnson(bride)2 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 28-02-2022 We had our wedding reception at the lumber exchange after a destination ceremony at a different venue. Maybe the venue in Hawaii set the bar too high, because compared to them, the lumber exchange was awful to work with. They switched the coordinator we were working with multiple times, and had no contact from our coordinator the two weeks leading up to the ceremony. The whole event was very frustrating. The space is beautiful, and there are plenty of picturesque places but with that being said fell short in many areas. When we saw pictures of the space there was a lot of greenery on the overlooking balconies and were promised that greenery is included and would be in place by the time our reception came around, it ended up being a fraction of what we were shown originally. If you plan to have dancing, we were told the day of, that they are unable to dim the lights⌠at a wedding venue. So plan on a bright fully lit dance floor from first dance through the party at the end of the night. Something else that I didnât notice during my tour but think is important is the lack of outlets in the bridal suite. There are zero outlets by all of the mirrors and one outlet by the sink in the bathroom. And for the grooms suite, no bathroom or sink. They will prop open the back door of the bar across the hall for bathroom access. As far as food, itâs ehâŚwedding food quality. Last but not least, there were Covid restriction updates a couple weeks prior to our event, it took them a week and a half to get us a solid answer on what restrictions would be for our event so we could pass information on to our guests. So three days prior we informed everyone of vax or negative test requirements and had about 30 people not make it. Iâm not trying to come off overly critical, just sharing my experiences to potentially spare any couples who are looking for their big day to be a nice smooth sailing operation. Diana Rieckenberg(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 16-10-2021 This venue did an amazing job! I had no idea the amount of detail it took to plan a wedding but with Hannah Fox & the LX Team, it was a breeze. Everything is gone over with the Event Coordinator to make sure that the day runs smoothly. They make sure to stay coordinated with outside vendors so everyone knows the plan.Food was also amazing and the serving sizes were perfect. They give plenty of food for the plated style. I had very little stress on my wedding day!I did have one little critique;I know its standard waitstaff to wait till there is little food left on the table to refill but I found that when the table had small numbers of cake on it, they were hesitant to take some thinking that there wasn't going to be enough for everyone, leaving a lot of left over cake. It would have been better for the waitstaff to keep the cake table full rather than waiting so guests could take more knowing there was plenty left. If that makes sense... same thing sort of happened at the rehearsal dinner. But other than that small critique. Very very good! Reviewed on 24-01-2022
Jessy Saffell-Busch(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 29-10-2021 I cannot even begin to describe the amazing experience we had with the LX and all of the staff involved. It was the first venue we toured (of 7) and from the second we met Sarah (who has since left) it was clear this was going to be the venue to make our big day the BEST. We were paired up with Will Harshman and he could not have been more patient with my every little concern, easy to talk to and really worked to understand our vision and helped to guide us on how to get there. He made suggestions along the way which helped us to keep within our budget while ensuring we would also have a great time with our guests. The venue is set up perfectly for a modern style wedding but could easily fit many different styles and the staff is on top of it like a well oiled machine to make sure the entire day runs exactly as planned! Frequent check-ins along the way of planning as well as an attentive staff and excellent day of coordinator team (Jordan and Taylor) made sure that everything went off without a hitch! I cannot express enough how thankful we are to have had the experience working with Will and the team, I would recommend this venue to every single person on the planet if I could. Also the food! the food was AMAZING! We had a taco bar buffet and were told by nearly every person in attendance that it was the best food they've ever had at a wedding, a major win because we ALSO really loved the meal. Weddings are expensive ordeals, we all know this, but the LX had it all! We didn't need to waste money with 100 different vendors, they took care of the room flip, the linens and the overall set up and Will helped guide us to the right amount for food and drink for our size, adjusting where needed when our guest count changed by about 50 from the original plan. Another thing we loved about the venue is that the hotel (AC MARRIOT DOWNTOWN) is connected so our guests young and old only had to walk a short distance and INSIDE to get from one to the other, it made for a really slick transition throughout the day! There is not a single thing I would change about our experience here, if I could relive the day over and over again I would because it was flawless, and if there were hiccups we never knew about them, which to me is a blessing-with the help of the team at LX they took what is typically the most stressful day and made sure we didn't feel an ounce of stress from the venue-they even helped to crowd control some antsy family wanting to get in early! The food and drink throughout the weekend were high quality and delicious. There are so many wonderful spaces throughout the Lumber Exchange that each part of our weekend felt like a unique event. Because almost all our guests travelled from out of town, it was ideal to have a central location for our events with two hotels nearby. We started with a welcome social in the Hideout the day before the ceremony. Our guests loved the secret entrance through the bookcase. Having our ceremony in the Fountain Room was magical. We ended up being blown away by essentially everything. Our venue coordinator, Sara, was great to work with throughout the entire process. We had several conference call meetings to go over each aspect of the day. Regardless of whether we had told her if something was set in stone she always asked again to make sure we were certain. One major bonus for us was the willingness of the venue to allow us to utilize the ENTIRE floor (both venues) for our day without charging us extra. Not only did this provide for a great aesthetic, but made our guests feel much safer due to the ease in which they could socially distance. Additionally, Sara and the staff did a great job communicating every step of the way despite the constant changes from state government (particularly for guidance in Minneapolis). The venue was beautiful. Our location for the First Look and our Wedding Photos was amazing and we are so excited to see more of our pictures! We chose a spot on top of a parking ramp which provided a great background for our photos. Also, the food was very well received. (The food tasting is amazing!!) The day of staff knew exactly what was going on and there was no miscommunication on their part. Even the security guards were pleasant. All they cared about was keeping our money and not about keeping our guests safe. (They said we would be able to have 200 guests from all over the country inside in mid July 2020). And this is 100% due to the LX team. Hannah was a dream to work with during the planning process, very detail oriented, kept me on track, always had fast responses and helped me when I needed a different perspective. Kelsey and Crystal were also spectacular as day of contacts. Kelsey helped us walk through our rehearsal to get over any day-before jitters. Crystal was like an old friend on the day of, keeping me sane, helping my bridal party with any questions we had and making sure we stayed on our timeline, while still getting to have fun and enjoy ourselves. I do want to also note that every single member of the service staff was friendly and answered all questions with a smile. Lastly, I feel like I have to address how absolutely BEAUTIFUL the space was. We needed very little decor and the space was so natural with the exposed brick, large windows and charming chandeliers. Aarti Anand(bride)1 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 17-08-2019 Only giving one star because zero is not an option. Used the LX for our wedding and reception - a massive whole day event typical of Indian weddings. Although it is hard to find venues that host Hindu ceremonies, Indians, DO NOT go with the LX. It is well worth your money to go elsewhere. We had three event coordinators and two different chefs over the course of a year that switched each time with no notice on our part. The LX does not handle information transfers well so a lot was lost in every translation. The quality of their food also leaves a lot to be desired for the price they charge. They also had a very poor response to handicap accessibility issues that arose during our event, which we considered very serious. They had a non-functioning elevator that they knew about before our event and made no effort to reorganize the event to allow for accessibility, leading to multiple honored elderly people at our wedding being unable to attend key parts of the ceremony and lots of other big issues. Their Director of Events reporting directly into the owner of the business was onsite the day of our wedding and had utterly no response to this catastrophe. Trust me, you do not want to look back at your wedding as one big legal fiasco simply because your venue's event staff is not capable of handling any curve balls. You can be assured that should ANYTHING go wrong, the LX employees will have zero response during your wedding. They also had multiple hidden fees and unclear accounting throughout their process. This may be an issue with all event spaces but we were not impressed with the fact that the LX staff does not know how to use Excel to show clearly which items incur fees and which incur taxes. Multiple times they attempted to charge us taxes and fees on items that were NOT eligible. Lastly, they charged a high service fee with little to no service. We were charged exorbitant fees on outside catering (one of the things they will advertise with you that they can do \"no problem\" when you're shopping the venue then throw a lot of hurdles at you once you sign with them) as well as their in-house catering which received no service. We paid extra to use LX plates and cutlery, which was all provided so late that guests were waiting at the buffet line for quite a while during our event. Staff was not on hand at any point to respond to the needs of prominent guests; instead they will just follow the bride around and pretend that being visible is the same as being accountable. In short - if you care about your wedding day and cannot guarantee that absolutely nothing will go wrong, DO NOT book the Lumber Exchange. I promise you want to work with an event staff that can respond to changes inherent to all events, who are alert and aware, who are familiar with your event details, and who have at least a basic understanding of their obligations like fulfilling the terms of your contract and ensuring disability access. We fell in love at first sight when we first toured and were still in awe the day of! We had SO many guests compliment on how gorgeous this venue was! The whole day went off without a problem. Our coordinator and event managers were on top of everything the whole day. The on site chef made delicious food that was displayed beautifully. The staff was so nice and friendly. We only had a handful of things that we wish were different. The biggest thing was the high price, particularly the high prices of the food/drinks. But being a downtown wedding, we knew it wasnât going to be cheap. Our sales manager/coordinator was SO helpful with my many questions throughout the planning process, but I did wish she was a little faster to respond to my emails. I know she was very busy with weddings every weekend though, in addition to other events they do, so I completely understood. Also, the bride and groomâs suites were not available until noon the day of the wedding (what bride starts getting ready at noon?), and it cost quite a bit per hour to rent the rooms earlier than noon, and if we went in early we would have to pay the high prices for their chef to serve breakfast/lunch (no outside food was allowed). It cost us less to get a hotel room the night before instead of using these rooms. The suites were beautiful and I wish we could have used them for getting ready, but it just didnât seem cost efficient. But overall, these things were not a big enough deal to detract from the high rating of this review and I totally would have my wedding here if I went back in time and had to do it all over again! We had an amazing experience having our wedding at the Lumber Exchange. My husband and I wanted a Minneapolis venue that was modern but still had some classic beauty. The Fountain Room and River Room is what we ended up renting, and everyone commented on how cool our venue was. The modern brick, huge ceilings, light posts and chandeliers are stunning. We worked with Sara Thomalla throughout the planning process â she was incredible and bent over backwards to answer our questions and accommodate our requests. My husband and I are vegan, and we were thrilled that Lumber Exchange catering was able to meet those needs. Our guests loved the food, and 99% of them are not vegan. A big win!The Lumber Exchange and surrounding area gave us photos even better than we could have dreamed. We are obsessed with the historic but modern look of the exterior, the massive marble staircase, and the towering skyscrapers we captured going on the top floor of the nearby parking garage.Weâd definitely recommend. If you are looking for THE venue, listen up!From day one after visiting the Lumber Exchange Event Center, Julie and her Team treated me and my husband like royalty. After the tour my husband and I went downstairs to the Pourhouse to have dinner and a couple drinks and to our surprise our tab was covered by Julie and her Team! Can you say over-the-top? We hadn't even told them we wanted to book a date yet! Here are some of the highlights:1. COMPLIMENTARY day of concierge that handles everything from creating a secret stash of appetizers in your bridal suite to sweeping up a dropped drink seconds after it shattered on the dance floor. Allie you are a star!2. I was able to come in the day before the wedding WITHOUT A FEE to decorate. Vanessa met me at the door and carried nearly everything upstairs for us and continued to help us set up. (SIDE NOTE: Vanessa had to get security to handle an overly drunk groomsmen the night of our wedding and it was the calmest, most under-the-radar thing I have ever witnessed. MAD PROPS!)3. I asked hundreds of questions and Julie never failed to answer them and give examples all in the most timely order. She never made me feel bad and encouraged me to come visit the space before final planning steps to help bring my vision to life.4. They respected my budget and weren't pushy. I had a number in mind and at times I was nearly $8k over and they helped me find realistic ways to cut and still have an event for the ages. There aren't enough words to fully encapsulate the experience they created and all the little things that made significant impact on the overall day. I can honestly say nothing went wrong which is in large due to the fact that Julie, Vanessa, and their Teams didn't stop at anything to accommodate me and my family's requests. They were so good, that we are now having an annual party at the Lumber Exchange on our anniversary weekend with our guests! If for nothing other than informational, just meet with them for 30 minutes. Nine-story high skylight over the River Room, vintage feel, historic building. Iconic venue for Minneapolis. Food is of reasonable quality and price. The bad: The venue was sold to us as being a good value for the rental fee, together with a full complement of planning and day-of staff. On both of these points the experience fell short. The planning team turned over twice between when we booked the venue and our wedding day. This added unnecessary stress and required a significant amount of planning and preparation on our behalf. Given the turnover it was not surprising that the event staff had some minor misses during the event.Additional charges on small adjustments to the day-of schedule add up quickly. The team promised flexibility in going to their vendors for wines not on the initial wine list and were unable to deliver, resulting in a $22/bottle corking fee for the wine we brought in.We would recommend the venue if you are prepared to fully handle your planning yourself, are comfortable with a middle-of-the-road price, and are prepared to stay strictly on the drink packages they offer you. Kriti Kumar(bride)3 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 17-08-2018 We had mixed reviews about our wedding at the LX; we got married in the fountain room & the room was beautiful and our day was beautiful! It had long ceilings and beautiful exposed bricks. We had our ceremony & reception in the same room & I was nervous about the room flip but the LX along with our floral decor did an amazing job doing the flip; we had several meetings with Julie B. and she was good in getting us the information we needed however, as we got a month before the wedding, we found out that our chef quit- which sucked b/c he was going to be cooking our Indian cuisine. The part that was unfortunate was that it felt like we were lied to about our chef until they couldn't answer our questions; the LX offered to cater in food from a restaurant which was great; they even offered to do a tasting with the restaurant but we didn't end up having our tasting until a few days before the wedding & had to finalize our menu in the same day; we had to re-iterate so many times that we wanted there to be enough food- but in the end, we still ran out of the vegetables; during dinner, my dad had to re-iterate to the staff several times during dinner that the food was running out and to re-fill the food. On a positive not, Chrissy was amazing & super helpful. She got everything & anything we needed and was super awesome; we ended up having an amazing day overall however the stress leading up the wedding and that my dad took during dinner was unfortunate b/c we were having a great experience at the beginning of our planning. In that time, we lost the venue coordinator that we signed with, and then ONE MONTH before our wedding we lost our second venue coordinator. Iâve worked in customer serving roles my whole adult life- I completely understand that things happen, but I also fully believe the way an organization responds to challenges is the most revealing. The Lumber Exchange did not respond well at all. When we pointed out that our second coordinator (hereby knowns as Ashley M.) was extremely unorganized and MADE THINGS UP in our meetings, the management team had the audacity to blame my husband and me for the confusion. Poor employees are one thing, but not taking responsibility and BLAMING your customer is an entirely different ball game. I will say that Julie B. (our third coordinator), along with Chrishy, Kenzie, and Vanessa (our day of contacts) really stepped up and picked up the slack management and Ashley M. left behind. Jennalyn Walbolt(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 12-08-2018 Staff were amazing & if things happened (such as cancellations, financial issues, etc.) they were willing to work w/ u which was amazing! Howev, be warned that the planner u basically sit down w/ & are in contact w/ for over 1.5yrs of planning, is NOT the same as the coordinator THE DAY OF! Set backs happened such as Ceremony set-up was not done at the designated time we were promised, videos/tvs were not working or available day of, uplighting was not set up when told they were going to & not the right color, & guests were randomly roaming in when i clearly had asked for them to be blocked off till the designated time i set for them to come in! (Paid extra for security to make sure this didnt happen...&...it did.) That was only some of the ceremony issues we faced, much happened during the reception such as moving my centerpieces for my ceremony into my bridal suite even tho i distinctively told them they were the same centerpieces going to be used for our reception...in my bridal gown tell me why was I pushing a cart filled w/ centerpieces in the middle of my guestsâ cocktail hour...i had guests yellin at me âWHY ARE YOU DOIN THAT?!â Horrible...Nother mishap was i spent over $200 on giveaways which for some reason a server decided to clear them all, even if there were guests still sitting at the tables, nearly half my guests who left early, were complaining how they didnt get a giveaway cuz a server took them away...i can understand if the table was completely empty all night due to âno showsâ so u want to âclean as u goâ since staff are there late (rented the venue till 1am) but COMMON SENSE!!! If guests are still there dont clear things that are clearly for them which my bridal team & I took the time to place each âgiveawayâ on each place setting (135 guests) cuz the place refused to help us set up during the room flip due to it not being their responsibility...regardless if u see a bride stressing & u arent doing anything...its called common courtesy? Nother thing we were told smoke machines were OK, so we bought 2 being it was practically the same $$ as rentin them so we figured, might as well buy them! In the end, we didnt have a chance to even really use them cuz LX was afraid it was going to set off the alarm system. Weâve seen pictures where that place was smoked up for even bigger events, & well we were just disappointed that several of the things i took time & money to plan out with our wedding planner (julie was great!) were not sought out through cuz the day of coordinators were completely different. Nother thing, if u have guests who have severe allergies, get a distinct full ingredient list of menu items u plan on ordering. LX does NOT provide a menu w/ a list of major ingredients for each menu item, so my aunt who has crohnâs disease couldnt eat anything that was available other than chicken fingers. Also get ur dressing on the side for salads. All the food is pre-made/prepped in advance so things will come out soggy or overly cooked sitting in plates covered in plastic domes. Also if u think u want to rent out the alibi/pourhouse in addition to your ceremony/reception, DONT, completely waste of time/money. I did a seperate cocktail hour for my wedding party in the alibi & barely anybody had the time or knowledge to go down there. Security gaurds were either playing on their phones or completely useless. Dont order extra to help âguideâ guests. They wont. Overall, IM MARRIED! & in the end everyone enjoyed our wedding! The space is already so beautiful that minimal decorations were required (huge plus for us) and the entire room is surrounded by windows so you get a lot of natural lighting and are surrounded by the downtown city lights at night. The bride and groom suites were stunning and perfect places to hang out in when getting ready. You have access to the venue and suites for a full 12 hours included in the price, which is longer than a lot of the other venues I looked at. It was just such an incredibly beautiful place to get married and our guests had such an amazing time dancing and partying it up. And I cannot say enough great things about the staff! Ashley and Mimi were absolutely awesome in helping me plan every step of the way. It was really comforting to work with people who were as invested in and excited about our wedding as we were. I also want to give a shout-out to our day-of concierge (included in the price!) Abby. Anytime we needed something, she was there and played a huge role in helping the day run so smoothly. Also thanks to Chrishy and the closing day-of manager, Crystal. We felt that the whole wedding weekend from the rehearsal to the day of just ran so smoothly, and if anything went wrong we had not a clue! We would 100% recommend this venue to any couple that is looking to have an elegant downtown Minneapolis wedding in a historic building unique to this city. I have to admit, shortly after signing our contract, there was a lot of resource turnover and limited communication which made us really nervous with the choice we made, and we worried how it would all work out. We could tell the staff probably has too much on their plates to keep details straight from one event to the next so we would advise other couples to take good notes, ask questions, and follow up. In the end, the day was perfect - Ashley, Kenzie, Mimi, & Chrishy pulled everything off and if something went wrong, we didnât know about it (& didnât want to know about it :) ).Ashley stepped up when we needed her to amongst all the resource turnover and was very responsive, answered all of my questions, and was fun to work with. All of the staff we worked with in the few months/weeks/days leading up to the wedding were accommodating, friendly, and helpful. Our guests loved the food, though we do recommend having a private tasting - we were not impressed with the group tasting. Also, if youâre creating a budget based off of an agreed-upon LX menu, be sure to keep a copy as prices will likely fluctuate between contract signing and menu finalizing. If you need to communicate every little thing and are very particular; DO NOT choose this venue. The Pros: The venue is gorgeous. It's hard to complain about the beautiful decor and the historical beauty of the event center which is definitely what ultimately got me to sign on the venue. They are also very flexible which was awesome because we wanted Indian food and had to choose an outside cater (something surprisingly hard to find). The Cons: The staff is really nice but very very unorganized which caused quite a few issues on the day of. We ordered certain bottles of wine (and were charged $600 for them) and never received them; they claimed they didn't know. For some odd reason, the day-of coordinator told my DJ that there would be no music when my parents walked down the aisle even though we rehearsed with music, the officiant and myself both told her we wanted music; I have no idea why she would inform my DJ of false information. It made for an awkward start to the ceremony. Communicating with the venue beforehand was also very challenging. They would pick and choose which emails they would respond to and would often give incorrect information. For example, I was told that I would receive the venue layout and a map of how they would set up the space beforehand and I never did (which caused some issues with the ceremony and music; people couldn't hear or see the ceremony). I was told that renting an arch from them would be $50 but was charged $200, etc. It was very frustrating. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact you have way too many people managing, directing, etc the wedding. I was in communication with 5 different people in the span of 1.5 months because people either quit, were on leave or that's just how they ran the business. The venue is the king of \"Nickel and Dime-ing\". They tell you what you want to hear then charge an outrageous amount for things you would think would be included. For example, in non-western culture, it's customary to have finger bowls at wedding. It's literally a plastic bowl filled with water that you can throw away after and the venue would charge $300 to place the bowls on the table. I even would look at the receipt and notice things we never once requested, were charged on the receipt; so you have to be very mindful of your receipt. Now this could be normal wedding venue behavior but just a warning, it is quite the opposite of the friendly Mom and Pop owned venue. You felt very much like a number they try to suck money out of. Our wedding was perfect because it was OUR wedding however, if I would go back, I would have never chosen this venue. Reviewed on 18-06-2018

Caley Oquist(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 24-03-2018 When my then fiance and I were looking for a venue, we had a very tight budget. I had really liked this place online, but wasn't sure if we could afford it. I emailed the venue back and said I didn't think it would work out, and instead of an \"I hope you find your place\" they emailed back and said \"we will work with your budget because if this is where you see yourself getting married, that's all that matters!\" Which was a HUGE relief because when we saw this venue in person we both completely fell in love. Knowing I was working with people who cared about my wedding and not just the money was amazing and not the normal. From our initial email, to saying goodbye after my wedding- the ladies at this venue were absolutely everything a bride (and groom) could need. We were married in the Sawyers room, which is so intimate and perfect for what we wanted! The chef made our requested meals with no hesitations, they set up the decor exactly how I envisioned, and made my dream wedding a reality. I would recommend this place to any bride/groom anywhere. This venue was PERFECT for what we were looking for, the food was exceptional, the attention to detail from the staff took the stress off me, and not to mention I have never been told \"you are so beautiful\" so much in my life than by the ladies that helped make my pinterest dream wedding a reality. The best part was my now husband who made it clear didn't really care much about the venue- was in awe at how perfect this place was and keeps talking about how much he loved our wedding and that has so much to do with the venue and the setting of the Lumber Exchange! All our guests adored the place and thought the entire night was organized, intimate, beautiful, smooth and flawless and it had everything to do with the coordinators I worked with and the venue! When we first saw Sawyers on 5th and the Dylan room it was under complete renovation, but Barb sold us on the vision of the future design. Additionally, the beautiful brick of the original building and the floor to ceiling windows spoke for themselves. We experienced some turnover within the staff during our process which made it a bit difficult in the planning, especially because we were planning from out of state, but they were always able to meet our requests. On the day of the wedding, the LX staff did a great job not only with making sure the groom and I were relaxed and comfortable, but helping with all of the setup and coordination of vendors. Our day of coordinator, Chrishy, made a point to meet with my at the beginning of the day to receive a rundown of all the action items to be completed and went over what the entire day would look like so we would stay on track. Chrishy did a great job in making sure my groom and I had no worries. The only thing I was not impressed with was our day of event planner. While she was responsive to our emails and calls, when we went to our rehearsal she was not as helpful in coordinating as I had anticipated which made me a little nervous for the actual day. I assume that she was very involved behind the scene the day of the wedding but I never actually saw her. However, they offer a lot of other people to support you and I cannot say enough good things about our day of concierge. She was so organized and on top of everything. Emily Archambault(bride)1 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 05-08-2017 The LX Event Center is a beautiful venue, and that's why chose to marry in their Fountain Room. The chef was great, and accommodated all of my food allergies without sacrificing flavor. However, that's where the positive points end. Their staff is incredibly unprofessional, unresponsive, and will tell you what you want to hear, then completely screw you over. Not surprising why they have high turnover. We had THREE different team members throughout our planning, and each time we finally got ahold of the venue, they were clueless about our wedding. Not to mention when we were less than a month from our wedding, they finally told us they were going to start answering questions, they gave us our third event coordinator, who told us it was her first wedding, and no one came with to our final meeting to help her, and she was clueless and unprofessional. We were promised the Pourhouse for our cocktail hour, and told we had time to decide between that and the Exchange for sure because we booked first, but then after our final meeting (3.5 weeks before the wedding), they told us they gave it to the other couple and that since the other couple thought they had the PH, we would have to pay the extra bar bill costs of having no keg in the Exchange. This is literally one of 20+ times they were disorganized, so RUDE to paying customers, and extremely unprofessional to us. The only reason we stayed with them was because we couldn't afford to lose $10k if we backed out of the contract. Please do yourself a favor and choose a venue who treats you and your fiance like you're humans, not just another couple in the wedding machine they're churning. We had our ceremony and reception in Sawyers and cocktail hour in Dylons and we could not be happier with how everything turned out. When we first booked the venue, which was only 3 months before our wedding date, they had not had a ceremony done in Sawyers yet so we did not see any pictures for possible room layouts. My husband and I did not want the traditional rows of seating for the ceremony and instead wanted our guests to sit at the tables they would be at for dinner. We were not sure how to set the room up but the staff at Lumber Exchange made it happen and we were beyond thrilled with how it looked. Going into our wedding we had a vision of what we wanted and the staff at Lumber Exchange went above and beyond. They were extremely accommodating and made everything we had asked for happen. The staff was always there when we had questions and we were beyond impressed with how quickly they responded to every email, text, and call we had. Back a year ago we were nervous as we had some early challenges with responsiveness. We later found out that they were in the midst of getting ready to renovate the venue and have since quadrupled their staff. It then got a lot better and the team there all ended up being great. They did a nice job covering all the details and answered the million questions that we had. The food - we did a plated dinner for our 175 guests and it was great (they recently moved to an in house caterer) and we got a lot of compliments on it from guests. The venue itself blew a lot of people away and cocktail hour in the exchange was also great. Even the bride and grooms suites were awesome - I would have been happy to have longer to hang out playing pool or big buck hunter before everything started. Abby W.(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 29-04-2017 I want to first start out by saying WOW!!! We had our wedding reception at the lumber exchange two weeks ago and the staff, venue, and food were everything we could have dreamed of and more. When we had originally booked with the Lumber Exchange in May 2016, Barb sold us on the vision of the venue; and thatâs saying a lot because the Dylan's and Sawyer's room were both under renovation. I'm talking dust, debris, and construction tools everywhere. Barb was very responsive with keeping us updated throughout the renovation process and it was so neat watching our venue come to light. As the wedding day approached, Barb, Allison, and MaKayla helped us prepare and work out each and every detail including food, drinks, decorations, lighting, music, cocktail hour, seating chart, etc.. We negotiated on budget several times, and every time we adjusted they were honest, very professional and were upfront about all costs but never tried to push anything on us.Now, for the wedding day :) We paid a little extra to have the bride and groom suite available for the morning and it was so worth it. Again, our bridal party, parents, and grandparents were in awe of how beautiful the suites were. Us girls spent the morning doing hair and makeup in the luxurious bridal suite on the 3rd floor while the groom and the guys prepped in the groom's lounge on the first floor. The bridal suite was equipped with a bathroom, a TV, mirrors, exceptional lighting, comfy couches, mimosas, a lot of space, plus a view. While the groom's suite had a pool table, TV's, gaming system, a bar, a putting green, and lots of mirrors and seating. I would recommend renting the bride and groom suite if you are planning your wedding at the Fountain Room. The pictures are breathtaking, trust me! Also, both suites remained locked while we went to the church for the ceremony so we could leave our belongings there during the day, it was perfect. We also did our first look with the bride and groom in the lobby of the Lumber Exchange building with the grand marble staircase. Again, beautiful! Our cocktail hour was in the Fountain Room and guests were blown away simply by how extraordinary it was. If you have not seen pictures yet, it's a must! The magnificent two story fountain was a great feature for pictures and conversation while the unique seating and ambience of the room pleased guests. We then moved into Sawyer's room, a more intimate area, for our reception. The room is lined with floor to ceiling windows that overlook Downtown Minneapolis. We chose to do family style pasta for our dinner and it was perfect. The food was impressive and guests appreciated not having to shuffle through a buffet. And finally, the dance party started. The dance floor was spacious and again it was so cool looking out over the city as we danced the night away. We also used the venueâs photo booth and I know our guests had a good time with that, I would definitely recommend it.Lastly, location, location, location! The lumber Exchange is in the heart of downtown Minneapolis near several hotels, connected through the skyway, surrounded by tons of entertainment, and next door to the light rail. I really couldnât ask for much more out of my wedding venue. The Lumber Exchange delivered above and beyond and I am so grateful, our wedding day was perfect. Reviewed on 12-05-2017

When we booked the new venue, it was still under construction but Barb helped us in envisioning how the space was going to transform and how it would fit our wedding vision. We were able to come see the venue numerous times during construction which was great! Barb and the staff were super helpful with answering questions even though at times somewhat difficult to get a hold of (there seemed to be quite a bit of staff turnover). Day of there were some communication errors that caused some confusion and greatly delayed our end of night timeline (this could be attributed to the fact that we were one of the first weddings to take place in the new space). On our wedding day though, the staff were absolutely great in making sure the space looked how we were wanting it to! We received SO MANY compliments on how beautiful the space was (we also rented Dylan's for our cocktail hour), how convenient the location was (numerous bars and restaurants around and not to mention the hotel connected via the Skyway system), and how AMAZING the food was!!! Honestly, it was THE BEST wedding food I've ever had! And with my food allergies (along with some of our guests having allergies), the chef was more than accommodating to that. Our âday ofâ team were awesome as well from the security staff to the bartenders and our go to, Tom. Everyone was quick with a smile and executed everything without a hitch. Our guests raved with praise! We are so thankful to the Fountain Room for helping make our wedding day and night spectacular. Reviewed on 16-11-2015

Choosing a reception venue was one of the hardest parts of wedding planning for us. We wanted somewhere that was unique, felt like \"us\ Reviewed on 19-10-2015
Anonymous (bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 08-08-2015 I had my ceremony and reception at the Fountain Room. It was a fabulous venue and Barb gave the best service to us! We had 200 guests and did a 7:00pm wedding with a appetizer/cocktail/dancing reception afterwards. It was beautiful and people are still talking about it. In between the ceremony and reception, the Fountain Room staff did a fabulous job of hosting a cocktail hour on the floor below while setting up the Fountain Room for the reception. I highly recommend the Fountain Room and you will not be disappointed if you use Barb..she is the greatest!!! Reviewed on 15-10-2015
Anonymous (bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 15-08-2015 My husband and I had our wedding ceremony and reception at The Fountain Room this past August, and it was the best day of our lives! I'm the kind of bride that has a specific idea of how I want things to look and boy was I amazed! The staff had about 2 hours to flip our room before the reception started, and of course I was nervous but wow!! They seriously listened to every vision I had and they put it to life just as I had imagined! I worked most with Barb and Abigail and let me tell you they are the most helpful ladies I've ever met! They are great at their jobs and hands down recommend this venue to anyone looking to get married at a beautiful venue that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Reviewed on 06-10-2015
Anonymous (bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 18-09-2015 I had an excellent experience working with Barb at The Fountain Room. I was impressed by her at the very first tour of the place, through follow-up meetings, and on the actual day. Her level of energy and excitement is contagious. She loves her job and you can tell! \r\rThe venue was perfect for what we wanted. We did the ceremony in The Fountain Room, headed downstairs to The Pourhouse for a cocktail hour, and then back to The Fountain Room for our reception. I was nervous about doing a flip from ceremony to reception but Barb took care of everything. I was busy taking pictures during the cocktail hour and didn't get to see the reception space before our grand entrance. However, after discussing details with Barb, I knew I was in good hands. When I entered, it looked exactly the way I had imagined in my head. My guests really appreciated everything being all in one building and the fact that they could walk just a couple of blocks to their hotel when the night was over. \r\rI would highly recommend working with Barb at The Fountain Room if you want to be certain your questions will be answered and you'll have the wedding you imagined. Barb was extremely patient in answering all of my questions to ensure I was comfortable with how things would happen and when on the big day. I can't say enough good things about her and the space. Everyone thought the space was unique, romantic, and fun!! Reviewed on 02-10-2015
