The Mad River Barn is nestled in the Green Mountains of Waitsfield, VT, on 17 beautiful acres of gardens, woodlands and streams.
Hosting only one event each week allows us to offer a weekend-long destination experience that you and your guests will enjoy and remember forever.
On the hill behind the Main Barn, our state-of-the-art post and beam pavilion provides couples with a rustic, elegant space for dinner and dancing on Saturday evenings. This space is conveniently located next to the ceremony site and encompasses a stunning pergola.
The Main Barn building is home to eight of eighteen inn rooms, as well as both our dining room and pub. This is the hub of activity for the weekend, hosting everything from your welcome gathering to your rehearsal dinner and breakfast each morning.
Adjacent to the Main Barn is the Farmhouse, housing two bunk-style rooms. Just across the parking lot sits the Longhouse and Annex, comprising an additional eight inn rooms and offering a bit of privacy from the hustle and bustle of the main events.
Hosting your wedding at the Mad River Barn gives you exclusive access to the property for the duration of your weekend. Planning is made easy by working directly with our on-site wedding coordinator.
All events hosted at the Barn are contracted to our on-site catering, with extensive menus available for everything from a bridal lunch to the reception dinner. An exception can be made for reception desserts.
Our established wedding program has enabled us to connect with dozens of vendors in the area that are among the best in the business. Once a deposit is paid, you will have access to all of our preferred vendor information, organizational spreadsheets and more to make the planning process and event execution as smooth as possible.
Our wedding season runs from the beginning of May through the end of October each year.
We got married at Mad River Barn in June of 2023 and we can’t say better things about them as a venue. The location is wonderful, the rooms were perfect for our friends and family and the food was incredible. Working with Adrienne at MRB was a delight and made us really feel like this place was our second home for the weekend. They allowed us to add on a bonfire the Thursday before and take over the bar area on Sunday afternoon just to hang out. They also had a shed of things you can borrow, which saved us so much money on decorations. The Barn was also built to be a wedding venue, so there are speakers built in that your DJ or band can just plug into, which made the sound quality so much better than other places we have seen. But back to the food! Our guests gave us so many compliments on how the food was not like normal wedding food but made them feel like they were at a nice restaurant. The chef was also very thoughtful in dealing with all our guests’ dietary restrictions and giving us the flexibility to tweak a few of the items on the menu. If you are looking for a beautiful venue that will handle many of the details of planning for you and produce a perfect wedding, book Mad River Barn! Reviewed on 30-11-2023

Adrienne & the team at MRB are exceptional. We had such an incredible experience as they hosted our family and friends for our July wedding. We are so overwhelmed with how perfectly everything turned out! From the moment we walked into the barn we were treated with such incredible service. Their ability to accommodate my elderly grandmother for dinner before our wedding weekend even officially began set the tone for the service we would receive the rest of the weekend. The service staff is unreal, I wish I remembered every single one of their names so I could thank them individually. We were so impressed by their staff's hard work, attention to details, and all around impeccable service. Sam makes the most incredible food! We can't even begin to describe how overwhelmed we were with the quality and how much every single person commented on this being the best wedding food they've ever had! Thank you Sam! And thank you to Robin for making the most delicious breakfasts and for her generous service. We want to mention the owners, Andrew and Dave, for being so friendly and welcoming to us and ensuring our day went smoothly! But most importantly, we want to thank Adrienne for helping us plan this unbelievable weekend! Her organization, calmness, communication, and positive attitude were so appreciated and really put us at ease. Even with the rain, this day turned out better than we could have imagined! I thought I was going to be so upset about the ceremony being inside but it was so beautiful and intimate, it was perfect - I truly can't imagine it any other way. This venue is pure joy and we loved seeing all of our friends and family buy merch (but seriously, when have you ever been to a wedding where your friends are buying sweatshirts and hats from the venue?)! We can't say enough good things about this place and we can't wait to come back and visit someday soon! Thank you MRB staff! Reviewed on 12-09-2023

My son had his wedding here in October 2022. We did not know what to expect, having only seen a few pictures. We could not have been happier with the beauty of the barn, the staff, the food and the florist. I have been to plenty of high end weddings, this beat them all. Thanks Adrienne! Jenna Reichenbach(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 25-06-2022 We booked our wedding with the Mad River Barn in 2019 and after finally celebrating 3 years later, we can say without a doubt that this was our best planning decision. The fact that the Mad River Barn can cover so many aspects of the wedding weekend made planning from across the country such an easy experience. The big positives are that your family and friends can stay on site (summer camp vibes!), the MRB can coordinate and host your rehearsal/welcome dinner, reception, and Sunday brunch, and the food and bar services are all in house. The whole property is spectacular with gorgeous landscaping and the pavilion is beautiful as is, so you don't need much in terms of decor to make the space shine. Since the MRB only hosts one wedding each weekend, you really receive incredible, personalized service the entire time. Most importantly, the MRB team is outstanding. Adrienne is the best coordinator we could have imagined, with frequent communication leading up to our wedding weekend and then flawless execution throughout our time there. She was available for questions, to provide help for our rehearsal, to execute our ceremony, and then as things popped up the rest of the weekend. Adrienne seems to be calm, cool, and collected at all times--the exact person you want to be working with. The Chef, Sam, is phenomenal. To be honest, we didn't have any expectations for the quality of our wedding food based on the other weddings we've attended. We were BLOWN AWAY by how good every single meal was--the breakfasts were outstanding, the appetizers and entrees for our reception were perfect, and even the late night snacks in the pub were outrageous, especially the arancini! He describes his style as \"rustic elegance\" (I hope I got that right, Sam!) and absolutely nails it (his prior experience in the food world throughout Vermont will blow your mind too). We had a handful of friends with specific dietary restrictions who endlessly complimented their \"chef's choice\" meals too! Then of course the owners, Andrew and Dave, are the sweetest human beings who will stop to help in any way, shape, or form. Andrew was working throughout our entire reception and even took care of all of the cards and gifts at the pavilion so that we didn't have to worry about those. We really enjoyed every team member's company: Robin, Rachel, Jess, Jenny, Caleb and everyone I'm forgetting to name were kind, attentive, and just generally fun to be around.Lastly, all of our vendors had the kindest things to say about working with the MRB. Those who had worked on site before said it's one of their favorite venues to work at, and the ones who were new to the MRB were floored by its beauty, the ease of working with the staff, and how smoothly every event flowed. The Mad River Barn provided us with the most perfect wedding weekend we could have imagined. If you can manage to snag a date, we can't recommend it enough. Reviewed on 04-07-2022

Our friends and family can't stop talking about it. Unfortunately due to the pandemic our wedding had to be delayed two times and MRB made the situation stress free and easy to handle. From planning to the actual wedding they were simply amazing in every way. The food for every single meal throughout the weekend was absolutely epic! The staff were attentive, polite, and so much fun! The venue and surroundings are amazing and just perfect. It was great to go to one location and have everything available (hotel, rehearsal dinner, breakfast, pub for after parties, ceremony site, cocktail hour, and reception). Being able to have our family and friends stay at MRB and no one else was such a fun time. It was a nonstop fun filled weekend with all of our loved ones in one amazing location and we couldn't have asked for more. We our already talking about going back for vacation next year with a big group of us! Adrienne, Andrew, Jess, and the rest of the staff - Jen and I can't thank you enough for making our weekend even better than we had expected! Meaghan Swain(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 05-09-2021 Not only is the Mad River Barn naturally gorgeous, but the staff are so attentive and organized - we couldn’t have imagined a better place to get married! One of the things we really love about MRB is how reasonable their services are, and how they help you to not waste money - but they actually help you save!!First, they help to work with you on figuring out a strategy for alcohol, and they are upfront in helping so there are no “morning after” bill surprises, which was something we respect and appreciate. Next, when it comes to decorations, they don’t charge for rentals for the tables that you already have, and the tables are such a natural color that you don’t need to cover them with linen rentals. When it came to decorating, we didn’t need to do much because of the natural beauty of the pavilion, but they do have a “Pinterest shed” with tons of decorations and table numbers that we were able to use, so we didn’t need to spend money on decorations, and we didn’t waste buying something that would be used for one night. This saved a huge hassle and expense, and is a fantastic benefit to couples. We loved having MRB as our home base for the weekend, and the staff was all incredibly attentive and friendly to anything we needed. The day of the wedding, they helped to make sure that we had a bite to eat and cocktails for cocktail hour, because they knew we wouldn’t get to them ourselves, and at the end of the night, they delivered our gifts to our room for us, so we didn’t need to worry about delegating tasks to the wedding party or stressing about it. My family and guests had such a wonderful weekend staying on the property, and no one wanted to leave. One thing I really love about MRB is that they honestly go above and beyond to think of everything you could possibly need for your day. Rain in the forecast? Don't worry—they have a ton of umbrellas, including clear ones! This was a huge sigh of relief for me. I didn't realize it until I got there that weekend, but rain was forecast and I was so nervous. Then I saw that they had us covered. Need some extra decor? Have no fear. They have an entire Pinterest shed that you can borrow from. Guests with special dietary restrictions? Alexa I(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 02-06-2019 We can't recommend Mad River Barn highly enough! The owners Heather & Andrew are wonderful guides in planning and executing whatever you envision for your wedding, and the entire staff is incredibly kind and professional. The venue itself is beautiful. The ceremony site is intimate and photographs beautifully; the barn for the reception is modern but rustic and is a great blank canvas for your theme. We had 150 people and the site accommodated everyone wonderfully. Because ~40 of our guests stayed at Mad River Barn and everyone else stayed at other nearby inns, it felt like adult summer camp and made our wedding festivities stretch out for the entire weekend. We used the pub and the restaurant Friday and Sunday to spend extra time with our guests. On the day of our wedding, it was made everything so much easier to be able to get ready on site (separate areas for groomsmen and bride/bridesmaids) and then have the ceremony, cocktail hour, reception, and after party (in the pub) all within walking distance of one another. You can really trust the team at Mad River Barn, which made the planning process much less stressful for us. Heather helped us find ways to stay within our budget but also make the events that we wanted throughout the weekend come to life in the most wonderful way. Cassandra Matthews(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 26-05-2019 Mad River Barn is THE most perfect wedding venue. We toured several VT venues, and MRB was the only one that gave us chills. It perfectly fit the woodsy, relaxed vibe we were going for without sacrificing quality and sophistication. There is such a huge benefit to having so many amenities in one place: a beautiful outdoor ceremony site, an immaculate reception pavilion with open-air pergola, on-site catering, well-maintained gardens and grounds, comfy and spacious lodging, and a restaurant and pub for smaller gatherings surrounding the wedding. Of course none of those things mean anything without an amazing team that brings them to life. The co-owners, Heather and Andrew, and the rest of their team (Hi Adrian, Meredith, etc.!) put so much hard work into what they do. Even with the massive amount of work it takes to pull off a wedding, they were always warm and welcoming and seemed to enjoy our big day as much as we did. They are masters of being in the right places at the right times and making sure no detail is missed. They're basically coordination ninjas -- if you need them, they're there in a heartbeat, but otherwise they dart around getting things done behind the scenes. If you want to feel like family, have a whole lot of fun, and have your guests ooooh-ing and aaaah-ing the whole time and telling you, \"Best wedding ever!\" afterward, you've found your place. Kelsey Thorn(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 02-06-2018 We wanted a space that embodied us in a place close to our hearts, Vermont. A space equally intimate, natural, stress free (very laid back), lively, playful and completely unforgettable. After visiting Mad River Barn (the first venue we saw), we didn’t even bother going elsewhere. It’s not an understatement to say that MRB really has it all. To us, we had it all:- Intimate outdoor ceremony surrounded by lush Vermont greenery- Reception fully equipped with lawn games, a Ben&Jerry’s ice cream sundae bar, s’mores fire pit, Photo Booth, and a rowdy (the good kind) dance floor- Lodging on site for about 40 guests (our wedding party, parents, parents, grandparents, cousins and some friends were all able to stay right on site)- Pub for an after party— if you want to get married in Vermont you’ll find it’s common that a lot of towns have sound ordinances requiring loud music to stop pretty early on (around 930-10), the pub at MRB allowed us to keep the party going until 2 AMFrom the guest rooms to the pavilion, the venue is perfect in all it’s entirety. From the breakfast buffet (available on weekends for guests) to our wedding reception meals, the food was delicious and never disappointed. I’ve actually been told by a few guests that the beef tenderloin at our reception was some of the best they’ve ever had! Everything was perfect but it was the people who made the biggest difference and had the largest impact on me - Mad River Barn is run by and staffed with an amazing group of people. All of the employees are attentive, good-humored and helpful. They went all around above and beyond to ensure that we, our families and our guests had an unforgettable weekend. It’s clear the atmosphere at MRB is heavily dictated by the owners, Heather and Andrew, who are truly two of the nicest and coolest people we have ever had the pleasure of meeting, working with and spending time with. Heather and Andrew were an absolute joy to work with from day one and truly made the supposedly stressful wedding planning process a complete breeze for us. After months of communicating, it honestly felt as if we'd known each other for years and they certainly celebrated with us as if we did! When we look back on our wedding day and remember it, eventually the little details like what we ate and what music was playing will fizzle out - but one thing is for sure, we will never forget where we spent it and who we spent it with and that very much includes Heather, Andrew and the amazing staff at Mad River Barn. The spaces are rustic and elegant all at once, with thoughtful touches in the guest rooms. Our November wedding during \"stick season\" brought two dozen friends and family to the inn to effectively take it over right before Thanksgiving, and we had an incredible time, reserving the dining room for a private dinner and then inviting our guests to the pub, where other guests and locals were enjoying the same space. Our guests have deemed our wedding weekend “Adult Sumer Camp” and family have called it “The Ultimate Reunion,” because Mad River Barn provides the space to detach from the outside world, put your phone away and enjoy the company of your loved ones while drinking a variety of New England craft brews, playing fun games and exploring the gorgeous picturesque Vermont scenery. Every inch of Mad River Barn has been touched with love. From game nights at the pub, s-mores and singing at the bonfire, lawn games and Frisbee, and a gorgeous rustic-industrial chic pavilion, what more can you ask for? It’s all there for you! Heather and Andrew made my husband and I feel so at ease throughout the whole planning process because of their impeccable organizational skills, love for what they do, and flawless execution of our vision. Coming from Brooklyn and unfamiliar with the area, they were super helpful throughout planning, suggesting weekend activities (such as waterfall jumping at Warren Falls), recommending great lunch spots and referring competent, fantastic vendors. And the food is nothing short of AMAZING! The head chef, Sergio, infuses creativity, flavor and passion into his meals. He is so willing to tweak his dishes to your liking and is literally open to cooking anything you want for your reception! From waking up every morning to a hot Vermont breakfast with French toast and fresh granola to eating delicious homemade flatbreads for dinner….it is gourmet comfort food at it’s finest. We had multiple people express how delicious our reception appetizers were and that the mac and cheese was the best they ever had! We’ve gained lifetime friends and know that Mad River is now our new home away from home. It was genuinely a weekend we and our guests will never forget. It could not have been more perfect.
