Julie Meadows(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 11-12-2021 Madigan's was absolutely the best choice we made for our wedding. The location of Occoquan & the space itself are charming and MAGICAL, especially for a December wedding! The best part was that we knew everything was taken care of. Madigan's talked directly to guests with dietary restrictions day-of to ensure they understood their needs; they accommodated our different desires (absolutely NO liquor served; putting out hundreds of Christmas cookies at cocktail hour); & even had some extra touches that I really appreciated--like bringing my husband and I our wine of choice when we came into the reception, and Cathy coming up to us to decide when to transition to the next part of the reception. It really is an all-inclusive place! Cathy put me at ease every time I spoke with her. The day was exactly as we hoped it would be: intimate, joyful, and fun!Madigan's was first on my radar because my sister considered it as a wedding venue, but it was too small for her guest count. My husband and I wanted 120 people maximum, so Madigan's was the perfect choice. We ended up with about 110 people total, and the space was the perfect size: enough space for everyone, but intimate at the same time. There's no elevator to the upstairs space, but we didn't have any guests who had trouble with stairs. We could have gotten married at Madigan's (we decided on my childhood church instead); but after we left the ceremony, I knew I didn't have to worry about anything because Cathy was on top of it! Cathy Madigan is truly a seasoned event professional, and it showed through how she talked to us throughout the process of booking and planning our reception. I never had any doubt in her--I have two years of experience in the catering business, so I can tell when someone knows what they are talking about as relates to event planning. She always had a specific answer to every question, took clear notes on what we wanted, and didn't push back when we had made a decision on something--even when it wasn't what she would have chosen. The few stressful moments in working with Madigan's involved not hearing back from Cathy right away a few times; but every time we did reconnect, my worries disappeared again. It's important to keep in mind that Madigan's is a family-owned, full-service restaurant, not a catering company whose sole focus is wedding planning. BUT know that you will also get a full-service wedding! I didn't have to think about the decorations besides a few personal photos that we wanted to have on a 'Heritage Table.' As for room decor, they decorate the upstairs for Christmas--greenery, gold ornaments, and twinkle lights! Madigan's also provides table linens & centerpieces--all we had to do was choose what we wanted (I opted for the simple elegance of taper candles in hurricane globes). The food & cake were excellent! For dinner we chose the 'mock surf and turf' of chicken and stuffed flounder (a guest favorite!) w/ garlic mashed potatoes. Cathy's daughter Bailey is the cake master, so even cake was included in the base guest price (which BTW includes dinner, cake, decor, & the space itself). Madigan's also offers a DJ that they partner with; we brought in our own, and he had no issues--just had to come a little early to set up.In sum, I highly recommend Madigan's as a wedding reception venue! The price is right, the service & food are excellent, and the atmosphere is inviting. Thank you Cathy, Bailey, and the team for making our day all that we hoped for! Reviewed on 08-01-2022
Anonymous (wedding party)1 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 27-10-2017 Horrible experience with decent food. Ovens shut off and food was delayed. No discount. Just sorrys. We arrived I informed the hostess of an 7-8 people party. It was our first time here for happy hour with co workers. We asked to sit outside and this older lady with a red dress sat us down. Our server told us to get happy hour specials they we served at the tiki bar which is full she never told us there was a bar inside with plenty of tables and chairs for us to sit in. So we go inside to get drinks and I see the hostess behind the bar pointing at us and her lips read do not serve them happy hour. They are sitting outside. I'm confused so I walk over and ask if there is an issue. She stated they weren't going to serve us happy hour drinks and that she is getting the manager. This place has multiple managers. While this is happening another manager goes to our table saying \" I heard you are going to the bar for happy hour\" like it is a crime. A table of 7 people purchased full price meals and drinks to be denied a happy hour drink at the bar. Then our food was delayed because the ovens stopped working and not only did they keep apologizing they said we would receive a discount for this absurd experience. Sure enough the checks came and no discount at all. Absolutely insane! Never coming here again. Spent 3 hours here trying to let them get it together. Don't waste your time. There are plenty of better restaurants with great service. Were not military friendly at all either. Reviewed on 27-08-2016
Erika Nyborg(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 16-03-2013 Madigan's was the perfect choice for my wedding, right across the street from my venue, but even better, they had in-house decorating, catering and cake! The space is located upstairs with tons of natural lighting and plenty of room for up to 120 guests (I had 105). Cathy was wonderful to work with and took a ton of stress off my shoulders. We provided our cake topper, table cards, a few personal decorations (pictures), favors and guest book and didn't have to worry about anything else! It was great! You can choose anything from passed individual servings of tapas to a full sit-down meal, and the option of a full-service bar. My guests really liked the food. I didn't use their DJ for music, but there is a tie in for outside DJ's to use as well. Excellent venue and I will keep it in mind for friends and other events! Reviewed on 02-04-2013
Julia Sheffield(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 01-08-2012 We used Madigan's as the rehearsal dinner, because our ceremony was at St. Mary's of Sorrows Historic Church and our wedding reception was at Rockledge Mansion, so the restaurant's location was perfect! We had actually heard from the locals in Occoquan that Madigan's wasn't that great, in terms of the food - we asked around and frequented the town - but I still booked the place. When the rehearsal dinner was all said and done, the food really was the most memorable part of the entire dinner! All of my guests raved about the crab stuffed flounder, chicken (and the sauce!) and the filet mignon. Best choice we made, and the music in the bar was so fun afterwards! I highly recommend Madigan's for a rehearsal dinner! Reviewed on 08-09-2012
Jenelle Petersen(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 26-05-2012 This was a great venue for our smaller, intimate wedding reception. The food was delicious and the servers were attentive and kept everything filled. \r\rOur only complaint was how the cake was served. The restaurant uses a baker as part of the wedding package, so they placed the cake flavors and decor order. Even though they knew the bottom and middle tier were two different flavors, they only cut the middle tier and didn't touch the bottom one until one of my friends told them that her husband is allergic to chocolate and needed the vanilla in the bottom tier. They immediately cut him a piece, but we would have preferred that all guests have the option of different cake flavors. Reviewed on 10-06-2012
Jennifer Kiernan-Graham(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 15-10-2011 Cathy Madigan did everything. Reasonable prices, great food, and very good service. Cake and champagne was included in the price. She even helped with getting us a DJ at a very reasonable price. Reviewed on 01-11-2011
melissa gallagher(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 19-09-2010 My husband and I were looking to have a very budget friendly wedding. We have a two year old little boy so we were not in the position to go crazy with our wedding. I met with Cathy Madigan, owner of the restaurant, and she is absolutely WONDERFUL!!!! She believes in a 1 stop shop. Our price included the cocktail hour food, dinner, wedding cake, center pieces, linens, and the beautiful setting. The location is absolutely perfect also. We were married September 19, 2010 (last weekend of summer) and with the weather being so nice, it couldn't have been a better setting than having our reception right on the water with our own private deck for our guests. For those looking to marry in this area, I recommend having the ceremony right outside at the town gazebo. The ceremony itself cannot have more than 40 people, so we just had our family at the ceremony, and then family and friends at the reception. The gazebo was $250 to rent, but $100 of that is refundable. Reviewed on 14-10-2010
