Situated in the heart of Pittsburgh's elegant Shadyside neighborhood, the Mansions on Fifth Hotel is a one-of-a-kind venue for stylish wedding ceremonies, receptions, engagement parties and showers. Built in 1906, the Mansions on Fifth was originally the home of prominent attorney Willis McCook and his family. Situated on what was then referred to as Pittsburgh's "Magnificent Mile," McCook's neighbors included Andrew Mellon, Andrew Carnegie and George Westinghouse. Carefully restored in 2011-12 to its former grandeur, now as a 22 room hotel and event venue, the Mansions on Fifth offers all of the modern conveniences one would expect with a luxury hotel, but in a setting which bespeaks the opulence and grace of the "Gilded Age."
Settings and Capacity
The Mansions on Fifth Hotel consists of two houses -- the larger Fifth Avenue House and the smaller, more intimate Amberson House. Fifth Avenue House offers a splendid setting for marriage related events. The floor plan consists of the "Grand Hall," featuring a massive oak staircase, and four side rooms, each with its own distinct personality. The Parlour is light and airy, while the Dining Room, boasting a magnificent molded plaster ceiling, reminds one of an English dining club. The Oak Room, with its carved oak paneling and ceiling, offers lovely views of the neighborhood, and the Library features a vast array of books surrounding a massive fireplace.
Capacity for a seated event is approximately 100 people, while capacity for a cocktail-style event is 175. Showers can typically be accommodated in the Parlour or Dining Room, each of which can accommodate approximately 40 guests.
Food and Beverage Service
Mansions on Fifth offers a wide variety of menu choices, from savory stationed items to custom-prepared multi course plated dinners. For showers, Mansions has a variety of light fare menus which tickle the palate without weighing one down. Mansions offers a full service bar. Of course, Mansions takes pride in accommodating special dietary needs of any guests or clients.
Executive Chefs Pete Phillipy and Michael Henney have more than 30 years of culinary experience each, and have served as Executive Chefs at the Mansions' sister property, the Priory Hotel and Grand Hall at the Priory since 1999. Before that, Chefs Phillipy and Henney served in the kitchens of the Hyeholde restaurant in Pittsburgh and the Nemacolin Woodlands resort in Fayette County, Pennsylvania. Their food is second to none in Pittsburgh.
Wedding Packages
Mansions has a wide variety of wedding packages which can suit nearly any taste and budget. They range from seasonal packages, such as the Winter Lights Wedding package, April Showers package, and Fall for Love package, to the Grand package, which offers upgraded bar service and an overnight in the spacious McCook Suite.
Overnight Accommodations
Mansions boasts 22 luxurious guest rooms and suites, each unique and offering modern amenities.
Rose Markle(other)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 11-12-2022 My sister had her wedding here, and everything was amazing! Zach, Gabby, and the rest of the staff were extremely welcoming and accommodating. Zach was especially helpful, and throughout the day and the evening I saw him checking in on the bride and groom often, and always making sure everything was was going smoothly. Everyone had a wonderful time, and I would happily host or attend another event at this venue. The space isn't the largest, but they were able to arrange everything comfortably, and the size just made the experience more intimate and meaningful. And even though the mansion is older than some wedding venues, you can tell it has been cared for well over the years. I was able to see multiple rooms, and everything was beautiful! The restrooms were clean and modern, all of the outlets worked well, and we even had a functioning fireplace in our room. If you're looking to have your own wedding here, or just spend the night in a beautiful mansion, I would 100% recommend checking out the Mansions on Fifth! Reviewed on 12-12-2022
Sadie Kalathunkal(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 09-07-2022 We used the Mansions on Fifth for our ceremony and reception. Their team made it so that our entire day was flawless. All of our guests were well taken care of and constantly commented on how beautiful of a backdrop it was. There are no words to say how amazing Zach, Gabby, Dion (and everyone else!!) are!! Mary O'Donnell(bride)1 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 18-12-2021 The hotel itself is beautiful. The staff is a complete mess. On the final contract it was agreed that one dining room would have 4 round tables that seated 8 (32 people). The other room would have 2 long tables that would seat 20 people each COMFORTABLY. Wedding day comes, the round tables have 10 seats each and the long tables have 18 seats crammed at each table. Thankfully my bridesmaids went to bat for me and got everyone seated since my seating chart could not be followed. It's not the point that there was room for them. It was the point that I, the bride, was assured over multiple emails (which I still have) that the set up I wanted was possible. And it wasn't.My own decorations that I brought were treated disrespectfully. The morning after I came down to my cookie platters, most of them glass, haphazardly thrown into my totes. My aunt's plastic tupperware that she brought cookies in was shoved in as well and was so warped that we threw it away. Other things of ours were just thrown on the table or also haphazardly thrown in a box, no organization or respect. If I would have known that, I would have done it myself the night of my wedding. My votives were missing that morning. They found them a few days later shoved into a broom closet. The front desk was extremely unprepared and unprofessional. We booked and paid for 6 rooms for ourselves and bridal party. We were assured over email everything was noted. When we got there nothing was noted at the front desk. They made our bridal pay when my now husband and I had already. Eventually everything was refunded back to our party. But this shouldn't have been a problem in the first place when the manager and I had exchanged multiple emails about this. Our bridal suite had random paint chips and random splotches of paint that didn't match the rest of the wall. The heating vent is also above the bed. It is so loud it sounds like it's thunder storming. It also sprays dust out on to the bed and curtains under it. It was so bad that I woke up both mornings we stayed with puffy eyes and clogged nose thanks to allergies. Our package was also supposed to includes chocolate covered strawberries and champagne sent to our room after the reception which did not happen. One of the rooms our guest stayed in was so crooked they said they both could feel themselves slipping toward the end of the bed. After everything, my brother-in-law realized he lost his watch. We called the Mansion to keep an eye out for it. They called and said they found it but by the time someone could go out for it the building was closed for filming a show or movie. After that I went in to pick it up and the front desk knew nothing about it. The manager was supposed to call me back but never did. Recently I also found the event coordinator at the time, Alissa, has her own wedding coordinator side business. She posted pictures of my wedding on her business's Facebook page as if I used her personally. I did not. The best, most ironic thing is that the pictures she posted of my wedding were of the parlor. The room that did not have enough seats. Maybe she should have focused on making sure the correct amount of seats were arranged instead of taking pictures for her side business. If you have your wedding here, I recommend seeing if you can hire an outside wedding planner/coordinator. Daniel King(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 07-05-2022 Mansion’s on Fifth is a great venue for a wedding. The building is beautiful with all the stone + wood, and it felt very elegant. They require that you rent out all the rooms (which you’d probably want to do anyway), and we really enjoyed having the place to ourselves. It felt like a big family party! The management could have been better, there was a lot of turnover for who was in charge, which made us concerned. But on the day of the wedding Zach, Gabby, and all the other staff did a great job keeping everything running smoothly. We really enjoyed having our wedding there! It was a great day :) Reviewed on 01-07-2022
Olivia Letzkus(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 28-05-2022 The team at Mansions on Fifth is unmatched. Rebecca, Zach, Gabby, Adam, and the entire crew made our perfect day so special! We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect wedding ceremony and reception, and are so happy that we chose Mansions on Fifth to host. Our guests loved the history of the venue and how inviting the space and the staff is. They were extremely accommodating and were able to assist us with our every need. The food was incredible - we can’t stop thinking about the almond crusted chicken and all of the courses that were served. I can’t recommend this venue and team enough to host weddings and events for anyone looking for an elegant, grand, and inviting space to host your guests. Thank you so much for making our day so perfect! Reviewed on 01-07-2022
Sarah M(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 11-12-2021 Alissa, Gabby, and the staff at the Mansions were wonderful to work with! Despite some turn-over in staff while planning our event, and despite having to change the date due to Covid, we felt confident in Alissa's detail-oriented plan by the time our event arrived. She and Gabby were kind, communicative, accommodating, and really put us first during the entire weekend of our event. The food and drinks were excellent, and our guests had a great time. Alissa and Gabby were very helpful at coordinating deliveries with our other vendors. We held our wedding ceremony, reception, and a brunch at the Mansions, and everything ran very smoothly and was exactly as we had planned it! Reviewed on 24-12-2021

Lynn Epstein(other)3 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 26-09-2021 The venue is gorgeous. It’s the star. The service at our event left a bit to be desired. There was a lot of turnover in the staff during the run up to our party. The catering, which they require you use, was perfunctory at best. In some instances, they flat out ignored what we had asked for. In others, they seemed to go cheap or didn’t take much pride. Also, I do not recommend using their bakery. Our guests had a fabulous time, as did we. But catering was a big disappointment. Reviewed on 03-10-2021
Kenzie Pape(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 21-08-2020 ABSOLUTELY PERFECT!! I cannot recommend Mansions on Fifth more. Although we did not have our reception on site, we hired the team to cater and coordinate our backyard wedding. They arranged the tents, tables, chairs, linens, food and drink, etc to perfection. Rebecca and Giuseppe are absolutely amazing and made sure that we had nothing to worry about. I did not have to worry about a thing leading up to the wedding and couldn't have asked for a more perfect team. The food, set up, and service was better than anything I could have imagined for a Covid backyard reception. Reviewed on 31-08-2020
