Jess Pevonka(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 21-05-2022 We just had our wedding on 5/21/22 at the Metropolis and it was the BEST day. We had a very long engagement due to Covid, but Jill was so helpful from day 1 of working with her. She was quick to answer my (seemingly never-ending list of) questions, she was on top of every little detail I threw her way, and she was so kind and pleasant to work with the entire time! As for the wedding itself, the day was quite literally perfect. We had both our ceremony and reception in the ballroom, and it was just so lovely. Everything ran smooth as could be. We got SO many compliments on the food - like so, so many. I’m biased, but it was some of the best wedding food I’ve ever had. The space is beautiful, it’s in such a convenient location, and our day went exactly as we pictured it and planned for. Kate, our event captain for the evening was incredible; she was so quick to any of my night-of requests and she really helped make the reception run without a single hitch. My husband and I absolutely loved our experience with the Metropolis Ballroom, and we would 100% recommend it to anybody searching for an event venue in the northwest Chicago suburbs. Metropolis Ballroom is a 10/10 when it comes to services, food and location. Located in downtown Arlington Heights the Metropolis Ballroom is just steps away from the Metra and there is a parking lot located right next door. From the moment I began to look at venues for my baby shower Metropolis Ballroom was at the top of my list. Jillian my event producer was so sweet and did such a wonderful job capturing all the small details that mattered to me the day of my event. She made the planning process seamless. The day of the event the staff was so wonderful and several servers came up to personally congratulate me. I loved the personal feel and warm welcome they provided. The event staff also did a wonderful job communicating and sticking to the buffet timeline to make sure all the guests were fed. The food was also phenomenal!! I was blown away by how fresh and tasty everything was and best of all so were my guests. I received several compliments about how great the food was. Jillian worked with a local Bakery to make my dessert selection absolutely perfect and to match my Winnie the Pooh theme. Not to mention that everything was super delicious. I highly recommend the Metropolis Ballroom and am looking forward to finding future events to host there! Reviewed on 24-05-2022
Kelly McCracken(bride)3 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 06-05-2022 I want to preface this by saying that I would have given 5 stars had the venue completely followed through with our wedding. Everything from planning through the reception was great. The venue was beautiful, the staff was amazing, and the food was incredible. The disconnect happened after the reception. The event specialist was not on site and it didn't seem like a lot of communication was done between her and the banquet servers. The banquet servers were extremely helpful with helping my parents load everything into the car, but they failed to mention that we could bring our cake home & also did not ensure that everything on our inventory list was packed. My parents did not leave the venue until about 1:30am so they did not even think to ask about the cake, and weren't aware of everything on our inventory sheet. Two weeks later, after returning from our honeymoon, I went back to pick up a few things that were left behind. One of those things were our extra favors, which were lottery tickets. Somehow, the box was \"missing\" and the event specialist did not take any accountability for it not being there. They also let me know that they threw our entire cake away because we did not pick it up in time. How were we supposed to know that? Why wasn't the cake given to us the night of the wedding? To top it off, they also threw out our cake topper, which was supposed to be a keepsake of ours. This could have easily been prevented had there been communication between the event specialist and the banquet team, or, if the event specialist had actually stayed through the end of the reception. I understand that it is a long day for them, but that is their JOB. What is sad to me is that despite the wedding being an absolute hit, is that I will never forget how mis-managed the end of the event was. I am also sad that my husband and I won't get to enjoy the top of our wedding cake on our first anniversary, and how our personalized cake topper was carelessly thrown away. People spend so much time and money to plan weddings and the venue and events specialists should make it their goal for everything to go as close to perfect as possible, from start to finish.Like I said before, we had an overall great experience with planning everything and the wedding itself. The events specialist we ended with was not who we signed our contract with and was still relatively new to her position. I am hoping she learned from her mistakes with us and can ensure that this doesn't happen with any future couples. Reviewed on 24-05-2022
Paige Peterson(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 08-04-2022 Metropolis was the absolute perfect venue for our wedding reception. We got married on 4/8/22, and our guests continually message us about how beautiful, classy, and amazing the reception was. Jillian was so kind, patient, and understanding throughout the entire process. I was a very anxious bride, and Jillian handled every call, question, email, and meeting with such grace, kindness, and understanding. After every planning meeting, we left with such joy and comfort knowing that our wedding was in such talented hands. The Campbell room was beautiful for cocktail hour, and the ballroom was absolutely stunning for the reception. We wanted a very modern, clean, romantic feeling for the wedding and the metropolis encompassed all of that and more. It ended up snowing and raining for our reception, so we didn’t use the veranda, but our guest made so many comments about how beautiful the space was and the windows overlooking downtown Arlington heights. They said it was like being inside a beautiful snow globe! Our guests loved our food from Metropolis so much that our Pastor, who was a guest at the reception, actually reached out to Metropolis after the wedding to ask if they bottled their chimichurri sauce, he loved it that much! We have not heard a single complaint from any of our 110+ guests. We also had a lot of dietary restrictions from guests (gluten free, dairy free, allergies) and metropolis was able to accommodate every single person. The cake was also DIVINE, and Jillian did an excellent job of navigating a stressful cake situation for us.The wait staff was BEYOND attentive! They all deserve raises. They made us feel so loved! We never had to go searching for staff to help. Our head table waitresses constantly refilled our waters, checked in with us about our meals, cracked jokes and consistently complimented us, and made sure that me and my husband constantly had our favorite drinks in our hands! They even went as far as filling vases with water for our bridal bouquets, because they were starting to get wilty at the table. We received this exact message from one of our reception guests: “I had a chance to talk to the wait staff and thank them for their wonderful service and the delicious food. I have never experienced such outstanding service and delicious food like that before at a reception!“.The bartenders were AMAZING! Everytime I interacted with the bartender, she gave me a different compliment, and was having so much fun behind the bar, even dancing to our music! The day of coordinator, Marta, was such a joy! If we asked for something, she made sure we had it within 30 seconds. She made sure our bridal party was fed while they waited in the bridal suite as we were taking photos, that we constantly had water and drinks, and stayed on top of managing our presents and card box so they were never in danger of going missing. At the end of the night, I was a crying mess (I was so sad the wedding was over) and Marta gave me the biggest hug, and said “wait right here I will be back”. She came back in a flash with a glass of tequila and a glass of water, and told me to drink both to feel better. It was honestly the most genuine, heartfelt, and funny way to end our night. I am so thrilled that we got to have our wedding reception at Metropolis. It was perfect, from the planning process down to the amazing and enthusiastic staff. Melissa Cyrwus(bride)1 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 11-06-2022 I had high hopes calling Metropolis Ballroom to potentially be my wedding venue for the summer of 2022. I spoke with Shawna who was very amiable over the phone. She immediately sent me the package options in an email and said she’d be out of town for my showing, but she referred me to the owner, Tom. I was told he had multiple appointments that day and would be happy to show us the grand ballroom. On the day of our appointment, we arrived 5 minutes early and were immediately greeted by another couple who asked us if we had an appointment with Tom. We confirmed and asked who they were. They said they too had an appointment with Tom scheduled 30 minutes prior to our arrival. The entire place was dark, everything was locked, and the couple said they couldn’t get a hold of anyone. I immediately replied to Shawna’s email I received the day prior that Tom was cc’d on to ask if there was a miscommunication or generally what the situation was. No one reached out to us, but we waited for 15 more minutes before leaving. To this day (over 2 weeks later), neither Shawna nor Tom have reached out regarding the appointment or to apologize for their incredibly unprofessional behavior. We were lucky enough to book another hall, ironically the one we went to see immediately after being blown off by Metropolis, one week later. However, I’m wondering about the couple we ran into because they were looking for an emergency venue this summer. While I understand employees have the right to vacation time and emergencies may happen, the lack of communication, follow up and utter disregard for potential business left a very bitter taste in my mouth. We have quite a few guests, including myself and my son, who have food allergies and we were able to customize food just for them so that they could enjoy their meals with everyone else. Most venues cannot accommodate those types of requests. Shawna was meticulous in the planning, attention to detail, and suggestions. The day of, some things did not go according to plan (not their fault-- just us forgetting things or not having time for things), and the staff just went with it. We couldn't be happier. The space was beautiful- lots of wood and exposed brick. We were even able to use the heated veranda overlooking the fountain (60 degree day in January!!) One thing we loved was the use of the entire 2nd floor-- bride's room, groom's room, cocktail room and the ballroom-all ours, all night. Kathleen Hudson(bride)2 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 29-08-2015 My husband and I recently had our wedding reception at the Metropolis Ballroom in Arlington Heights. Firstly, a couple good things about it are the location in the middle of downtown Arlington Heights, the modern main ballroom design, the separate cocktail hour rooms, and the outdoor terrace. The food was fine, not great. What really made us upset, though, was the whole planning process. There were a lot of things that were not pleasant, and they all happened because the main wedding coordinator there, Shawna, did not know what she was doing. She was horrible with communication, unaccommodating, rude, and apathetic. Often times, we’d send her emails updating her on rentals, guest lists, menu choices, etc. but wouldn’t receive a response/confirmation for weeks and usually only after we reminded her to get back to us. Along the same lines, when we would send her these updates, we’d ask that she update the proposal and send it back. Most of the time, the proposal was never updated, and when it was, it was updated incorrectly. At the onsite planning meetings, we would typically just go over the details that we had previously communicated in our emails, which made them pointless. It was frustrating because we kept being told we needed to have these pointless planning meetings, but she was never able to meet when we were available. We always had to leave work early or take time off work to accommodate her schedule. The tasting was another particularly bad experience. Shawna didn’t know anything about the menu. We found bones in our fish. The dirty dishes never got cleared. We were given a very rude response when we started to ask questions about our rentals, being told we’ll have to schedule another day to discuss that because this wasn’t a planning meeting. On our actual wedding day the wait staff was nice, but as the bride (and the one that was paying for the event) I was served last. I’m pretty sure that wasn’t supposed to happen, and it was pretty disrespectful. The only way our event ended up alright is because our planner was phenomenal. At the end of it all our wedding turned out well, but because of all the other vendors that did their job well. Looking back our wedding definitely was not worth all the disrespect and poor planning by Metropolis. We felt like they cared about our money more than they care about us. I do not recommend using the Metropolis Ballroom for your venue. Reviewed on 07-12-2015

Meggan Member(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 20-09-2013 I think a lot of engaged couples may miss Metropolis because it is a hidden gem in the heart of downtown Arlington Heights. We are SO glad we stumbled upon it! Metropolis and staff was one of the many factors that made our wedding such a fairy-tale come true! We loved it the second we walked in. Has a classy, comfortable, lofty feel in the quaint downtown area.\r\rDuring planning and even on our big day we were nervous and skeptical of how the day would pan out and trying to guess what would go wrong! (not because of anything that had happened or because of any staff, but because we are type A control freaks who like to do everything ourselves to make sure it's done right). Michael, Danielle, and all the staff far surpassed our expectations! We are a husband and wife that can say that not a thing went wrong at our wedding or reception!! Any little detail or plan that we were worried about went better than we could have imagined!\r\rWe had read in reviews about Metropolis that Michael Raymond was a \"jack of all trades\"...that was an understatement! He is more than perfect at his job and literally has a great knack for being able to bring a brides dream to life! Can't even begin to count all the times during and after our wedding that our parents and bridal party ranted and raved about how \"Michael was such a blessing to this experience and helped it be pulled off flawlessly!\"\r\rMaking food decisions was hard because there were far to many great options and all tasted great! When we weren't crazy about one if the chicken dishes, Michael and the chef quickly gave us more options and wouldn't settle until we were excited about the dish. At the dinner, everything was just as good as at the tasting. Michael also was so great at making sure we were able to eat some of every course since as the hosts of the party you easily get distracted and before you know it, you didn't eat or drink a thing! That was thankfully not our situation thanks to the waitstaff and Michael. \r\rA few things that we weren't thrilled about but were not deal breakers: \r1. You must get every consumable good from Metropolis and pay the expensive price for it. My husband wanted him, groomsmen, and fathers to drink his favorite whiskey while getting ready. We were not allowed to bring this in, we would have had to get it overpriced through Metropolis. They did give us a beer and champagne toast though for the bridal party and parents before the ceremony. \r2. Very limited beer selections even on the upgraded bar package. Great top shelf alcohols but no craft beers. Very pricey if you want to get it through them. \r3. Underage people not getting kids meals get charged bar package. We fought this many times but Michael wouldn't compromise.\r4. Pricier than a lot of other venues in the area.\r\rSome Quotes from our family/guests: \"the wait staff was amazing and so attentive!\" \"There was never a line at the bar. The bartenders were so efficient, cool, and friendly\" \"bartenders took such good care of the bridal party and parents!\" \"The food was awesome\" and lastly, I'm sure a lot of guests tell any bride and groom this but we still are hearing from so many people that \"it was the best classy and fun wedding they've ever been too!\" (We of course think it was too!)\r\rThis review cannot begin to capture how truly happy and grateful we are to have had our wedding at Metropolis! Happiest day of our lives this far. Most expensive party we'll ever throw but honestly was worth it! Reviewed on 21-10-2013
Kris Glasson(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 04-05-2013 The second I walked into the ballroom, I knew this was the place for us to get married. To find out that Michael Raymond (THE wedding expert) was going to hold my hand during the whole journey was an added plus! Great contact and follow up, we used every one of the vendors he recommended and could not be happier with the whole event. Michael Raymond designed the invitations; the flowers; the layout of the ceremony and the reception. He had incredible ideas, ones we would have never, ever dreamt of. \r\rThe day of the ceremony, my soon-to-be-husband asked Michael Raymond to surprise me in the bridal suite. He did! He set my dress and displayed it in a way that when we walked in, it was the first thing we would see, with pale pink rose petals in the shape of the heart surrounding the shoes, the display of the dress, everything.\r\rThey were all extremely accommodating (we have food allergies) and sensitive to the needs of some of the guests. \r\rI have heard from our guests that it was some of the best food they have ever had and that it was amazing. Believe me, this group is a tough group to crack. \r\rI could not have asked for a better venue, a better expert (one who was able to figure out what I wanted when I did not even know) that the Metropolis Ballroom and Michael Raymond. It was perfect! Reviewed on 23-05-2013
Melissa Serritella(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 27-04-2013 I cannot say enough about how pleased I am with the Metropolis Ballroom. Michael and his team did an exceptional job turning our dream into a reality, and our day was absolutely perfect in every way. We stumbled across the Metropolis while searching for a venue that was unique and different from the plethora of banquet halls in our area, and while the room itself was gorgeous with the wood beams, wall of windows leading to the veranda, and modern chandelier, I was blown away by this venue's attention to detail. We had a very clear vision of what we wanted our wedding reception to look like, and nothing was off limits to Michael and his staff. I would highly recommend the Metropolis Ballroom to couples looking for a unique space with delicious food and incredible service. Thank you so much for making our wedding the best day of our lives. Lauren Orf(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 27-08-2011 I had my wedding at the Metropolis in August 2011. I can't say enough good things about the Metropolis. We had an afternoon reception on a Saturday, and the venue was beautiful with so much natural light. Our pictures all turned out incredible. We had 200 guests, and there was enough space to fit everyone comfortably without feeling like there was too much extra space. The food was delicious, and I received so many compliments about the courtesy of the waitstaff and the quality of food. I didn't give the venue 5 stars across the board for two reasons. First, when I saw the venue for the first time, the chairs were dark blue, and I noticed holes in the fabric of the chairs from overuse. This caused a debate between my mother and I as to whether we should rent chair covers or the fancier chivari chairs for an additional price. I decided that the money could be spent on something more important and decided not to rent special chairs. On the day of the wedding, however, half of the chairs were new and black and the other half were the old dark blue. In truth, I'm sure I was the only person who noticed the black versus blue chairs, but I would have been much happier to have had all of the chairs be new and black. My second reason was that email communication was a bit slow. With planning my wedding from St. Louis, I had to rely on email for my communication with all my vendors. Emails from the Metropolis were always a bit slower than from my other vendors. However, phone calls were always promptly returned and always made me feel like the wedding was going to be a huge success. My suggestion--correspond by phone or in person. When it comes to Michael Raymond, the wedding coordinator, I believe every bride needs a Michael. At the beginning, he just listened to me and showed me how to make all my wishes a reality. I never felt pushed, and he worked really hard to put together a menu that fit my budget. He also has a great deal of knowledge about etiquette. His tips and pointers helped us be socially graceful at our reception. He organized who would be speaking at the wedding in what order so that no one would be offended, and he even gave my fiancee and me a dance lesson. The wedding reception was like clockwork; I just got to sit back and enjoy the ride. The Metropolis was beautiful, but I think that Michael really made the reception everything we had imagined. Overall, I would highly recommend this venue to other brides; I would choose this venue again without hesitation.\r Reviewed on 12-10-2012
Erin Hase(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 26-05-2012 From top to bottom, from a to z, this place is a one of a kind find for the suburbs. Michael is really a one of a kind event planner and his staff is top notch. No detail was left undone. There is not one thing I would have changed regarding my venue. It was a truly magical experience and everything I wanted. Reviewed on 12-09-2012
Andrea Simnick(bride)3 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 19-11-2011 The venue is absolutely beautiful! and quite affordable! I loved my reception and really loved the way all the plans ended up. \r\rHowever it was not an easy process getting to the point where the we were happy. Michael was our event coordinator, and throughout our 3 month engagement planning for the wedding he was never responsive and if he was he would give us general answers that never amounted to concrete decisions.\r\rWe told him our price range from the very beginning and he never made an effort to stick to it. We would tell him we wanted an open bar and stations of food for dinner. He would then agree and make it sound as if everything was an option and really easy, and so we thought we were in agreement, and then he would talk about charging us way more than we could afford. And we would say, we can't pay for that, and then we would be back at square one. This didn't happen in a conversation, in one sit down meeting, like it should have, but rather multiple times over the course of our three month engagement, leading us to not decide on a menu until the week before the wedding!\r\rHe also tried to charge us for every little thing, and made a lame reason for why he had to charge us. For example, we had a choice to use their ugly chairs for free, or put seat covers on the ugly chairs for $7 a chair, or use their pretty chairs for $9 a chair! The labor for set up was the same, but they insisted in charging us to use their good chairs, so yes, we paid 2,000 extra to use the \"good chairs\"!! But we made sure to not get cheapened by anything else. We used our own sound equipment (also a logistical nightmare and wasn't as loud as we hoped the night of, but everyone danced anyway). \r\rMichael was all business, and did not make our ideas easy or fun if they messed with their \"tradition\". We tried to cut costs wherever we could, for example we were going to have standing tables for some of our guests to keep the atmosphere more casual and to keep people mingling, but he explained that Metropolis would not do that to their guests, as if their reputation was on the line, not ours, and consequently his traditions got us to spend more money with them.\r\rMost frustrating of all though was that it took forever for us to actually get a hold of him, and we would usually need to come to him and sit down and have a meeting (40 min drive for us) just to discuss ideas, but we would never decide on anything, bc he was not prepared with pricing things out. It was as if we were only meeting to discuss ideas, and this was even when we were one month out from the wedding. At that point we really wanted to start coming to decisions. He was really frustrating to work with. Reviewed on 22-12-2011
Kalyn Johnson(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 07-10-2011 We were so happy with the way our wedding day went! Even though the planning/contact/confusion with the onsite wedding coordinator was a little sketchy, the day of the wedding he did an amazing job! It ran so smoothly and neither myself or my husband were bothered with any details. Gorgeous venue but pricey compared to other places in the area. Reviewed on 24-10-2011
Cori Kirshner(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 10-09-2011 The Metropolis and all their staff were absolutely amazing for our wedding. From the first time my husband and I saw the space, we were hooked. The location is perfect, and the venue is absolutely beautiful. There was MORE than enough space for everyone and everything. We loved that they only have one event per night so literally all the attention is given to your wedding rather than some hotels where they were going to have 6+ weddings the night of our wedding. Without saying anything negative about Michael (seriously, he's a great guy!), I will warn you that he wants to have input on everything to do with the wedding. It's a GREAT perk for any couple who feels overwhelmed by the whole wedding planning process. I think if I asked him, he would have literally gone dress shopping with me. :) Use him! Ask him any questions, ask for his input, he's there to help! Michael makes sure all the events run smoothly; it's his job to make everything perfect, and that's his intention. The night of our wedding was absolutely perfect. Everything went as planned and the staff was amazing. Helena was our event manager for the night, and she was beyond awesome. There was not one complaint we had about anything that night. Without hesitation I would recommend the Metropolis to any couple looking for a unique venue. It's not going to be the cheapest venue out there by any means, but you pay for what you get. Your money will be very well spent at the Metropolis. We literally had probably 90% of our guests tell us it was the best wedding with the best food they have ever been to. Thanks Metropolis; you pulled through for us! Reviewed on 19-09-2011

Lynette Welker(bride)3 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 25-09-2010 Overall the Metropolis is a wonderful place and a really beautiful venue to have your wedding at, however make sure that you can keep your finger on the details and possibly do some sort of walk through for the days events so that everyone knows what is important to you. The staff was always very nice however the day of the wedding there were a few slight communication issues about certain liquors that were supposed to be part of our package and other small details that in the big picture didn't matter at all but just something to keep in mind. If it wasn't for the large price tag these little things would not matter at all but because of the cost these things make a difference. Reviewed on 12-10-2010
