LISA LEWIS(other)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 03-02-2023 This venue is spectacular! Their attention to detail is superb and everything went so well for our daughter's wedding. We would definitely use their services again for any special event for our family. They thought of everything and helped us plan our special day. And when rain was a possibility they gave options--fortunately the rain stopped but we were at ease with other options available. The staff is so supportive and the food is delicious. All vendors used worked together to make Mary and James day spectacular. Reviewed on 14-02-2023

Cecelia Braun(bride)2 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 12-06-2021 Mixed reviews for Middleton place...... the good:-food is great quality-stunning back drops -chairs and tables and basic glassware / flat ware included The BAD:-hidden costs such as linens, outside vendor fees-their banquet team won’t do anything. Will not set up the tables, move or cut the cake, really help at all. Our poor planner basically did the job of 50 people-the food came out so slow half the guests were done eating before the other tables got food-not willing to budge on any rules or work with you on things you want. Everything is $$$$$ - didn’t inform us that we needed a generator for the band and lights until 2 days before the event even though we clarified this multiple times-paid for seafood display for 200 people and I think everyone got 1 oyster and 1 shrimp Reviewed on 15-06-2021

Sara Johannesmeyer(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 17-10-2020 Being local to the area, we already knew how much beauty, charm, and history that Middleton Place has... making it an easy choice to host our wedding here. We worked with Emily who was a delight and an amazing representative of the venue. She was easy to work with, accommodating and addressed any COVID concerns.MP has numerous breathtaking gardens and other locations on the grounds to choose your wedding location. One of the biggest perks is that MP will only reserve one wedding a day so there is no limit to what you can choose. We chose the Octagonal Garden for the ceremony, Sundial Garden for cocktail hour, and the Pavilion for our reception. Both the gardens overlook the Ashley River and are a stunning backdrop. The Pavilion is a newer indoor area with ample space to make entertaining guests easy. We also loved having the sheep roam around for pre-ceremony pictures as well as our horse and carriage ride from the ceremony to the reception. All were very unique and special experiences! It was a seamless experience from ceremony to cocktail hour to reception. The staff were all very professional and friendly. I couldn't recommend a better venue for a Charleston wedding! Reviewed on 16-11-2020
M Kight(parent)1 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 28-08-2020 My daughter got married here in August 2020. It started raining and the outside decorations were getting soaked. We asked the venue staff if they could get them so we could bring them inside for the ceremony and no one bothered. They just shrugged. They said it was \"our job\". I have a walker from back surgery. My daughter was in full hair and make up and dress. We paid for guests to get golf carted from their car to the reception area so they wouldn't get soaked but no one bothered doing that either. In fact, the middleton wedding person, Emily, was busy giving a another couple a tour when we needed help about the parking situation. (The venue wanted people parking on the other side of the field and the grass was soaked and it was raining). We asked if we could park cars closer and was told we could not. So all the guests arrived fairly soaked sitting in a cold room with no decorations for the ceremony. After all the guests arrived, a middleton worker kept driving back and forth in the background of the ceremony with a golf cart so photos were impacted. I guess they got the time wrong when there were suppose to drive people to and from. I felt this event was totally mismanaged. The staff wasn't nice or organized for a small 35 ppl wedding. For the money you spend on a venue, you would think you wouldn't get shrugged at and told to get your decorations in the rain. I would not suggest anyone have a wedding here. Yes, it's pretty but the staff were rude and did not stick to the contract. Reviewed on 15-10-2020

Jessica Boyd(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 05-10-2019 We chose Middleton Place after looking at venues all over the East Coast. Once we explored the property, we knew without a doubt that MP was where we wanted to get married. It was just what we were looking for: on the water with an estate feel with the Museum/house ruins, the landscaped, beautiful gardens, and the animals were an added bonus. Middleton Place is such s large venue that there is plenty of space for everything! At a lot of other venues the cocktail hour felt like it would be squished into the other spaces, but at Middleton there were so many options for locations for each part of our wedding. What a unique, but classic venue. Our coordinators were great at MP. While we were sad to see our initial coordinator leave midway through our planning process, our new coordinator Erin was fantastic and answered my million emails and all of my questions. She even stayed into the night at our wedding to make sure everything went perfectly. We were more than impressed with the food at Middleton Place during our tasting, and it did not disappoint on our wedding day. The food was served exactly on time, still hot, and tasting amazing. Even weeks after the wedding I'm still receiving texts telling me how amazing the food was. We held our ceremony in the Octagonal Garden under the huge tree with spanish moss hanging over us, our cocktail hour was held in the Butterfly Lakes area in the long field overlooking the Ashley River, and our reception dinner was in the Pavilion while our dancing was tented right outside. Every guest who we spoke with told us that the venue was the most beautiful that they had seen. I would HIGHLY recommend having your wedding at Middleton Place. It is so naturally beautiful that you can go all out with decor or do a limited amount, and it will still be stunning. We had the absolute best event, and a lot of that was because where we had it! It was truly amazing to work with Darby then Emily. They were both very helpful. We a small intimate ceremony with an intimate reception. Our guest list was only 29 people. We had our wedding in the Octagonal Gardens and we see why it is very popular. So beautiful. We had our reception luncheon in the Cypress Room inside of the restaurant. Everything was perfect. Lauren Champaign(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 17-11-2018 Amazing staff + beautiful location = the wedding of our dreams. We worked with Darby and she was absolutely wonderful; indeed, my whole family feels like we gained more than a coordinator but also a friend. She made sure every little detail was perfect and we got exactly the experience we were looking for. And when our wedding guests count went from 325 to 400, she stepped in (with the help of our awesome wedding planners) to completely change the set-up to accommodate everyone. The result --- a stunning wedding that our guests are still talking about to this day. In fact, from the attendants who helped wheel the wedding party and elderly in carts, to the servers, to the grounds keepers, they all treated us with respect and provided excellent service. My guests commented that they felt like they were a part of a Hollywood affair -- they felt like celebrities. Yet, it wasn't just the staff that made Middleton Place special, it was also the beautiful picturques landscape and gardens that created a fairytale scene. Being an African American whose a descendant of formerly enslaved people, I was able to combine my Gullah culture and my husband's Jamaican heritage on those grounds. It was a testament to the strength of our people and how far we've come. To jump the broom like our ancestors once did, under the beautiful oak tree and moss, but this time with full dignity and respect, was powerful. We can't say enough about this unbelievably gorgeous location, the incredible staff, and Darby who helped bring it all together. You won't be disappointed. Reviewed on 05-01-2019
Alex Piechota(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 13-04-2018 I could not be more thankful that we found Middleton Place in our venue hunt. It was the last on our list but the first tour we took once we landed in Charleston. The Middleton Place grounds stunned us and our SPS Director, Sam, was so customer service oriented for us out of towners that had to learn the lay of the land to host a \"destination\" wedding for our family and friends. Our wedding was everything we ever wanted. There is very little that needs to be done to create a beautiful backdrop to commit to a lifetime together. What we loved about Middleton was the service level, the serene landscape (super quiet marsh/Ashley River as compared to some others in the area), the simplicity, the history, and the FOOD. The food was unreal. The brand new Pavilion to host a reception in was also an added perk that we were so lucky to have! We have so many wonderful memories of our special day and it starts and ends with Middleton. Reviewed on 23-10-2018
Diane Craver(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 02-09-2019 Our daughter (the bride) is local to Charleston, so this was not a destination wedding for her (although it was for many of our guests). She visited several venues before deciding on Middleton Place for her fairy tale wedding. We absolutely could not have been more pleased! Many of the guests who attended the wedding said that it was the most beautiful wedding they had ever attended. We had 150 guests in attendance, the ceremony was in the Octagonal Garden overlooking the Ashley River, the cocktail hour was in the Sundial Garden and the reception was in the brand new Pavilion (ours was the first wedding there). We worked with Jessie and then Sam (both of whom were phenomenal and completely tuned in to our preferences), and the planning was easy thanks to our wedding planner Candice. The natural beauty of this venue is the draw --- it is spectacular at all times of the year. We didn't have a great rain plan, but carefully watched the forecast in the event that we would need to add tenting or relocate the ceremony and cocktail hour. Fortunately, we were able to proceed with all segments of the evening as planned and it couldn't have gone more smoothly. We were able to have our rehearsal on property the day before the wedding and our guests were given the privilege of visiting the grounds on the morning of the wedding. The food was delicious (provided by Middleton Place) and since we have several in our family with serious gluten allergies (including our daughter), the chef was most accommodating --- they just made EVERYTHING gluten-free. No one except those with allergies would ever have known. We chose a plated dinner with 3 options (beef, fish, pasta) and everything was cooked to perfection. The wait staff and bartenders were friendly and prompt - exactly what you would expect at this venue. Highly recommend this venue and the coordination team there! Reviewed on 03-07-2018

Sam and her entire staff took such great care of us, answering all of our questions and making us feel confident that our big day would be a dream come true. Sam Henderson(groom)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 18-12-2018 My partner and I fell in love with The Inn at Middleton Place. When we found out that we could marry in the riverside courtyard, we were beyond excited. We were also thrilled to learn that the cost of a ceremony at the Inn was much lower than the cost of marrying in one of the beautiful gardens. We held our ceremony in the courtyard along the river, followed by a cocktail hour as the sun set. Guests then moved into the LakeHouse on the grounds for our reception complete with an amazing Southern meal catered by the staff at Middleton as well as a live band. We could not have been happier with our big day. The staff was overly attentive and we cannot say enough positive things about our event coordinator, Darby Poulos. She was with us every step of the way throughout the two year planning process. By the time we married in October 2017, she felt like family. Taylor Hage(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 29-04-2017 If you're reading this review right now, you need to stop looking for a venue because Middleton Place is the one. Not only is it the most breathtaking place in Charleston but the event staff, (shout out to Jessie Tanner), is second to none. When my fiance and I came to visit Middleton for our site visit we didn't even need to get out of our car to know that this was going to be our wedding venue (that's how cool the parking lot is). And then we saw the rest! I'm not lying when I say I started crying when I saw the Octagonal Garden and instantly knew we would be married under the big live oak tree. This is the perfect venue if you want to keep your ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception all on one site. Guests can walk the gardens, be transported by golf carts, or taken from site to site in a horse-drawn carriage! Where else can you find something like that?! But one of my favorite parts, are the animals. There are free-roaming peacocks and sheep, horses, goats, pigs...No, I'm not making this up. (Don't worry, they'll keep them in their pens if you're not into that kinda stuff). It's a real-life dream and truly a magical place. As mentioned earlier, Jessie Tanner was a rockstar. She knows how to do her job and do it well. She was so attentive to my needs, incredibly responsive, and helped me to find light and humor when I was in the stressful trenches of wedding planning. But honestly, with her helping, I didn't stress much at all. My wedding would not have been what it was without all of her help and guidance. (Am I allowed to say she deserves a promotion, or at least a big bottle of champagne?) Seriously, Middleton Place is PERFECT. It's the venue I've always dreamed about and will continue to dream about for years and years to come. Reviewed on 19-06-2017
courtney beall(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 05-11-2016 The best venue in Charleston! After visiting several plantations, my now husband and I knew Middleton was the one when we saw how beautiful the venue was and after meeting Jessie Tanner(our event coordinator at Middleton). She was so helpful, organized, resourceful and attentive throughout the entire process and made every request we had happen (down to having the sheep come out for our guests to see)! I can't say enough great things about how helpful she was during the entire process! There are also so many different incredible locations to have the ceremony, cocktail hour, and/or reception and our guests loved getting to walk through the gardens during our cocktail hour! Another thing I loved about Middleton compared to other venues is they only have ONE wedding a night so you aren't sharing the venue with another bride. The food and bar service was also AMAZING and I would recommend the duck tacos(or any of the food) to anyone! :) Everyone at Middleton went above and beyond for us and made our wedding more perfect than I could ever imagine. Amanda Martin(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 28-03-2015 I am a Charleston native and have dreamed of having my wedding at Middleton Place for years. I am fortunate to have a husband that is just as enamored with the location as I am. Even though we visited many other venues, Middleton was always, hands down, the favorite. We were drawn to Middleton for its picturesque views, beautiful gardens and sense of heritage and history. We also loved the fact that if we booked a wedding a Middleton, we would have the grounds to ourselves and our wedding guests with no other weddings scheduled on the same day. On our wedding day, there happened to be a couple eloping on the property, right where my husband and I were about to have our first look. (You’ll find her terrible review below). I hate the fact that her “highly rated elopement service” did not even sign a contract with Middleton and did not follow the proper procedure to ensure a stress free day for her. I am so grateful for Sam (Middleton Place event coordinator) and her team for removing the other wedding party so my first look was not ruined. Sam worked tirelessly to ensure I had a perfect day – I was not even aware of the mishap until after the wedding. I also need to take a moment to mention the FOOD! I am a gluten free client and was thrilled to have a private tasting of the food we would enjoy on our wedding day (including gourmet GF macaroni and cheese!!). The chef was fantastic to work with and made sure I was sufficiently stuffed with delicious food on my wedding day! One year later, my husband and I are still OVER THE MOON with our wedding a Middleton Place. Our family and friends still talk about how our wedding was the most beautiful weddings they have ever attended. We visited the restaurant for our one year anniversary dinner and were greeted with champagne for us and our family (compliments of Sam). We love this location, its history and its purpose, and will continue to support it for years to come! Reviewed on 12-04-2016

I worked with a private, highly rated elopement service to plan my Middleton place ceremony. The place is gorgeous and I will have fond memories of our wedding day and stay at the Inn, but unfortunately Middleton’s treatment of our party made for a very nerve-wracking experience. \r\rImmediately following our ceremony, my family was approached by the COO of Middleton and told we would need to stay out of the way of another bride who would be arriving within the hour. Let me just say, we didn't make it into Charleston as we had planned, until time to get on the ship. Middleton Place is gorgeous! Birds, sheep, dragonflies, spanish moss, and just beautiful scenery everywhere. As an amateur photographer, I was in heaven. It was quite humid in Charleston, as it usually is in late July, but we loved it. The Inn itself was great too, and we got a free pass into the plantation because we were guests at the inn. That's the largest bathtub I've ever seen, and my regular sized bathtub just looks so inadequate now.
