Mount Vernon Inn at George Washington's Mount Vernon is a uniquely historical restaurant wedding venue located in Mount Vernon, VA. The Inn takes inspiration from George Washington’s legendary hospitality, being located just outside the Mount Vernon estate. You can enjoy this one-of-a-kind dining experience for your wedding celebrations.
Mount Vernon has a long history of hospitality, dating all the way back to George and Martha Washington hosting hundreds of guests at their home. Washington’s descendants found that the family mansion had become a tourist attraction, drawing thousands of visitors annually. In 1853, the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association raised sufficient funding to purchase the mansion and began the long task of restoration. Light refreshments were provided for visitors at Washington’s home, even during the Civil War. In 1892, a trolley system was established, linking Mount Vernon to both Washington, D.C. and Alexandria, Virginia. The Gibbs Family, seeing an opportunity to serve guests, opened a small establishment just east of the main estate entrance. This location offered visitors “Virginia Chicken”, a beer hut, and later, a more upmarket Tea Room near the trolley station. The early 1930s saw new routes to Mount Vernon open via car and boat. Noting vastly increased visitor numbers, the National Park Service opened a small restaurant on the current site of the Inn. By the early 1980s, the Association decided to ensure the quality of the dining experience of visitors by purchasing the restaurant. In 1985, the Mount Vernon Inn opened with a fresh menu and a renewed atmosphere. It has since grown into a full-service restaurant with an adjacent food court to satisfy all appetites.
The Inn honors the heritage of Mount Vernon with a warm welcome for all visitors, a vintage atmosphere, and authentic colonial style. With six distinctive dining rooms and outdoor spaces, you can enjoy your wedding inside and out. The smaller dining rooms flow beautifully together for intimate dining experiences, while the George Washington Room is a well-furnished space for larger parties. The staff takes pride in their professionalism and hospitality, providing the excellent service that the Inn has earned a reputation for.
The Inn can host up to 250 guests for your wedding celebrations. Six well-appointed dining rooms offer a delightful indoor option while an outdoor sunken garden can host an outdoor event. A brick and slate outdoor courtyard is an elegant option for a ceremony of 120-160 seated guests under a 900-square-foot white tent. Catering and bar service is taken care of by venue staff, who also can accommodate cake from outside bakeries. For a unique and memorable wedding celebration, you can avail of Mount Vernon Inn at George Washington's Mount Vernon.

Mount Vernon Inn made all our wedding dreams come true! They were a fantastic venue that really made it very easy on the bride. Ashley and the entire team at Mount Vernon Inn were so easy to collaborate with and I had ongoing information on the estimated costs through an online portal which was so helpful for budgeting. What I valued the most was their experience with weddings as a routine wedding venue! They are experts who know how to utilize their space for weddings - and the use of the bridal suite was a game changer! The permanent tent in the garden gave us peace of mind that our event would be great rain or shine. We also utilized their centerpieces of lanterns and hurricane vases, which was included in our package along with the linens - truly a one stop shop! The venue is gorgeous and classic and all I really had to do was bring some flowers and a cake and we were ready for a wedding! We also utilized the television in the Verandah room to put a slideshow of childhood pictures and pictures of us with our guests, which was a big hit. It was a magical day thanks to the Mount Vernon Inn team and love that we can go back and visit our venue for lunch and dinner whenever we can! Reviewed on 01-09-2023
Fiona Pexton(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 24-04-2022 Excellent Venue! Beautiful venue and basically all inclusive for a low stress day. The wedding package includes the set-up and take-down, the ceremony, food and drinks, and basic coordination for the day. Ashley (the coordinator) was amazing and everything went perfectly during the day. The sunken garden was perfect for the ceremony and then for dancing after dinner. We did the partial rental of the restaurant for dinner which was great for our wedding size. Reviewed on 08-05-2022
Jenna Hershberger(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 22-08-2021 Our wedding at MV was absolutely gorgeous. I chose the site not only because my parents had gotten married there 28 years prior, but also because it blends historic charm, elegance, and good service. Ashley was wonderful to work with. She's kind and gracious, cheerful, and just absolutely lovely. Throughout the tasting and multiple meetings, everyone else we encountered was very pleasant. I'd love to personally thank the woman who waited on our sweetheart table the night of. My husband and I couldn't finish our meal (you get generous portions which is awesome!) which of course happens when you need to talk to your guests, and the staff packed up everything including cake so we could enjoy the food later that night. The sunken garden is a great spot for a ceremony. We can even attest that it's pretty well-protected during a torrential downpour. We loved that the space has multiple rooms for the event. That allowed guests who didn't want to be around for loud music during dancing to go socialize on their own. We were able to plan the evening with the help of Ashley so that guests did not have to move to different rooms too many times throughout the evening in order to watch events. One note to be aware of - when you pay for wedding coordination, you are paying for a team of people. I'd glossed over that while reading the planning materials, and was rather thrown off when several people tag-teamed running the event the day of. Nevertheless, Anthony handled everything very professionally, and the night went well. Oh, and I should also mention that Anthony ran our rehearsal, and was phenomenal at organizing everyone, and giving me advice on how walking down the aisle should go (something I hadn't thought much about till that moment!).This really is the most original event space you'll find in the DC area that isn't going to break the bank. The staff is very kind, the food excellent, and the amenities wonderful. Quick tip: We took most of our photos right outside the inn (and they were amazing), but literally two minutes down the highway on the right is a little park on the river where we took couple photos. They turned out beautifully. Reviewed on 28-10-2021

They had excellent service, the food was served hot and in a timely manner. Their bartenders were able to handle crowd. We really valued the event planner, Ashley Childs. She went above and beyond to make our day wonderful. She was great with communication and so organized that she almost doubled as a wedding planner for us. Lilyanne Ohanesian(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 27-05-2018 We booked our wedding in June of 2017 and had our wedding Memorial Day weekend 2018. For that entire year, Mount Vernon's event coordinator was responsive, supportive, and accommodating. We chose the venue because we knew we were going to be a small wedding, and the Verandah Room with Sunken Garden was perfectly sized and reasonably priced. We also knew that extras like decorations were not important to us, so having Mount Vernon handle everything, from the food, to the place setting, to the set-up, was ideal. We made the mistake of booking this vendor before we even tried eating there; but luckily the food was DELICIOUS, several of the guests made a point of telling us so. Finally, I want to share that a few hours before our ceremony, with thunderstorms in the forecast, Mount Vernon called and asked us if we'd rather be inside instead. UH, YES. So even though we'd planned for an outdoor wedding a year prior, our guests were comfortably air conditioned inside. Couldn't be more pleased with the whole day. Reviewed on 17-08-2018

We worked mainly with Jessica who made the planning easy. The food and desserts were delicious and the reception went very smoothly. The venue is beautiful and so any decorations you may need are minimal. There are two bars so there were never many people waiting for a drink and the layout of the rooms encouraged people to mingle and hang out in the largest room (the GW room) for dancing and desserts. People commented on how gorgeous it was and how it was nice to have a room where the DJ was where people could dance, and many other rooms to relax, go outside, sit at the bar, yet still hear the music. While you will not have access to Mount Vernon itself, the restaurant looks like an historic home. We rented out the entire restaurant which was perfect for our 100 guests. We also used the outdoor sunken patio for the ceremony and it was also the perfect size for our guests. The rooms are broken up, so you won't all dine in the same room, but it actually made it easier to walk around and greet guests so people weren't rushing up to us as I've seen at other weddings. Jamie Jamie(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 28-09-2013 We had a wonderful experience working with Mount Vernon Inn on our wedding. We had lots of changes between booking and the big day, and the staff handled them all with panache and professionalism. The setting cannot be beat, and the prices are very competitive for the D.C. area. In addition, the Inn really brings something magical about American history into the wedding… Not a quality I can quite name, but really special on the big day. We felt so lucky to be working with such experienced and professional people for such an important day.\r\tThe food was outstanding. Many of our guests filled up on our cocktail hour. We particularly recommend the rabbit and peanut soup shooters, both of which were huge hits. Martha’s Washington’s Punch was a huge hit as well, as it tasted like cold apple pie in a glass (weird description but they kept having to make more because our guests—and we—drank it all up). We selected the hoecake and a balsamic fig salad as appetizers. They were perfectly portioned and our friends and family got a big kick out of the colonial foods. For our entrees, we allowed a choice of a petite filet with a crab cake, a walnut and cranberry stuffed chicken, and a sundried tomato encrusted red snapper. They were all popular but I would say the chicken went over especially well as it was the most seasonal of our selections. We served Martha Washington’s Cake as our dessert, which saved us money because we did not have to get a big cake at a bakery. It was delicious and they even boxed some up for our one year. I think our guests got a kick out of it. We also had an ice cream bar and pumpkin ale, fun touches Mariita was able to add at the last minute.\r\tMariita was an absolute pleasure to work with. She is great about responding to emails and giving you specific information about everything in Mount Vernon’s capacity. We really appreciated her understanding and professionalism on some thorny family issues, and her flexibility as our guest list and other items changed drastically over our planning process. We didn’t have a coordinator but we didn’t feel like we needed one- Mariita handled everything from beginning to end!\r\tThe service was outstanding all the way through, our guests said they felt well attended to and taken care of. The cocktail hour (which of coursed we missed with pictures) was very fun and well received, and the staff did a great job circulating appetizers. Both standing and passed appetizers were offered, and there was plenty of seating and standing room for our guests. \r\tOverall, I strongly recommend this location. The setting is unparalleled and the food was not only delicious, but also memorable and unique. Everything from the ceremony to the tent to the service and food and setup is handled in house, which is priceless for efficient wedding planning. The murals look great in photos, and setup is a snap because Mount Vernon’s staff takes impeccable care of you on the big day. Tirza Niemann(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 10-12-2010 Mt. Vernon was a perfect place for our wedding reception and dinner. It had great ambiance and an extremely helpful staff. Even more, having at in December when everything was decorated for Christmas was absolutely beautiful. Reviewed on 19-01-2011
Amy Dane(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 12-06-2010 These folks know what they are doing. Things we never even thought of, they had covered. They met all the needs of our guests and more. Apparently, mojitos were the craving of the night and the bartender made up a special batch. Matthew, our coordinator was wonderful. On day when I had a question he happened to be out and another skilled staff member was available to help. The food was great. I had to worry about nothing concerning catering. Plates, chairs etc were all provided. I recommend this location to anyone and everyone. Reviewed on 19-10-2010
Brigit Ferguson(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 21-08-2010 We had a great experience at the Mount Vernon Inn. The catering director, Matt Heiss, was totally professional, knowledgeable, and flexible at every step. The food was delicious. They didn't nickel and dime us - the rental & food costs covered meeting all our vendors, allowing us to drop stuff off the night before our wedding, cutting the cake, etc. I have just three minor hesitations: first, the minimum food requirement ($10,000 including tax and tip) ended up being a little more than we ultimately spent, but we had to pay the full amount anyway (we knew that would happen up front, though); second, the employees at the front of the restaurant when we went to drop stuff off the night before didn't know what we were talking about and were very slow to help us while we had cookies and flowers melting in the August sun, but once a manager showed up we were fine; third, some random tourists wandered into the vestibule during our event and had to be shooed away. They did an excellent job overall. Reviewed on 08-09-2010
