A Rural Hideaway in the Hawkeye State
Palace Event Center, located in Treynor, IA, is a bucolic wedding venue brimming with historic charm. Not far from Omaha, this Hawkeye State gem is defined by its vintage-meets-vogue aesthetic. Dating back to the 1930s, the property has been transformed from an old-fashioned barn into a romantic event venue that attracts soon-to-be newlyweds. Owned by Penny and Craig Buckingham, the property has been providing the backdrop for milestone moments since 2016. Constructed in 1933, Palace Event Center is replete with details that are reminiscent of the property’s agricultural past. Its old-world furniture, exposed wooden beams, and stone fireplace complement the venue’s nostalgic atmosphere. As a wedding planner I have enjoyed working with the team at Palace Event Center. The grounds are beautiful and a lot of time and work has been spent on the space. They have room for getting ready spaces, a full bar, a room for the buffet, and a beautiful balcony. The team is super supportive and communicative as well. Highly recommend!

This place is beautiful! Craig is so easy to work and communicate with and did everything to make my day special! I had 280 guest and they all were complimenting how beautiful the venue was! It was so rustic and had so much space!

Words cannot possibly describe how magical this venue is. From the minute we walked in, we KNEW we needed to get married there. Craig (the owner) is absolutely phenomenal. Him and his team work tirelessly on giving you the feeling that you have an entire family behind your back ensuring that your day is perfect. He had countless meetings with us listening to our vision and he made sure it was all perfect. we couldn’t possibly recommend this venue more. If you are looking for a naturally gorgeous venue that doesn’t need a lot of decorating, this is definitely it!! Just go see it, its amazing. We had about 100 guests and it was phenomenal. ❤️

Unable to use the kitchen during set up due to one of the staff sitting at the counter on his computer. There was no room in the refrigerator for our cupcakes & cake. I’ve never rented a venue before that doesn’t grant you access to the full kitchen, refrigerators and freezer. This place literally has one large trash can, hidden in the kitchen until someone (probably a guest) FINALLY moved it out so people had access to it & could throw their plates away. Who knew they had a security guard, which would be a nice touch if they weren’t so rude but I think they are there to strictly point out all the things the owners failed to tell you up front, then protect the owners from all the people they’ve angered throughout the evening. Even the caterer said they wouldn’t return to this venue. This place is stunningly beautiful but that is the ONLY positive thing about it.

My daughter and son-in-law were married here on 7-16-22. This venue was hands down the best choice we could've made. It's stunning inside and out. The inside is magical with the lights and decor. Craig and the staff were superior to work with. Their special day couldn't have been any more perfect.

My husband and I were married on 8/27/21 at The Palace Event Center and I cannot give enough stars to my review. This venue is GORGEOUS! Besides the physical beauty of the venue, the owners, Penny and Craig, are remarkable. They were incredibly nice, thoughtful, professional, organized, were clear in their expectations for the health of their venue as well as open to hearing your expectations as a couple for your wedding day. The big day went off without a hitch and I felt that was a team effort between my husband and I, but also Penny and Craig. They truly helped to make our day so special. I would highly, highly recommend The Palace Event Center for your big day.

Beautiful venue! Penny not so much. When we first meet her a year ago she was very sweet and helpful. However after the completion of their second kitchen and food room, she started requesting we use all their table wear and glasses and wanted to charge a ridiculous price. Since we already bought our own we didn’t go with hers. She was instantly annoyed. I got married here this last weekend, and was absolutely in looove with the venue. I met the owners and they were very helpful and supportive through the whole process- up until the actual ceremony and reception. It was helpful to have them around for questions, but felt as though there was a lot of hovering going on the rest of the day/evening. During the grand entrance, we had a guest leave upset- the security guard followed and proceeded to get in an argument and banned the guest. Bride and groom were NOT notified of this..we heard through other guests. If someone from MY wedding is being removed- I should be the first person to know. They were out of line, and he was doing his job- but there was no line of communication. Also, the bridal suite and grooms room has a nice security coded door. Kinda useless when the owners gave their code out to anyone who asked- I wasn’t even told the code, I had to go ask myself. Fast forward to during the reception. Guests were dancing, some were at tables, and some were out smoking. The owners began tearing down tables and throwing peoples drinks away at 9:30. They also proceeded to go in the grooms room and bridal suite while everyone’s personal belongings were still in there and starting throwing stuff away. I booked the venue from 8am-midnight. Our “grand exit” was scheduled for 10:30/11 to have an hour cushion for our parents to help tear down. We didn’t even make it to this time. (Thankfully the wedding party’s bus was there at 10:30). My mother in law (our caterer) was told to shut down food and begin picking it up- after she expressed that she wanted to enjoy her son’s reception and would be back in to load food into her car. The owners proceeded to tell her how messy our guests were because cups were left on tables. There was ONE trash can in the very back- hard to locate if they aren’t anywhere near tables. I also booked the venue in March of 2020 and signed my contract. Since then, they’ve added their own dinnerware and expected us to pay $3/place setting even though it was nowhere in our contract. After owner and I had discussed this and resolved the issue a couple days before, they still approached my mother in law the day of and said they could offer a cheaper price. I had high expectations, but I feel some things could have been handled differently. Beautiful venue overall had a great night- just disappointed/astonished at their actions after I held them at a higher expectation. Refer to Google reviews to read viewpoints from multiple of my guests. Very disappointed with their professionalism with such a beautiful venue. Since I’ve spoke out on her actions, I’ve had 2 brides reach out with their experience, and the common issues seem to be her micromanaging!!

The Palace was the perfect venue for our day! We had the perfect amount of space for all of our guests and the style of the Palace barn fit my husband and me perfectly! Penny and Craig were helpful in preparing for the day and helping it flow smoothly, they were always so sweet and supportive! The bridal and groom suite areas were perfect for our crew as well, it helped keep everyone in the same building to be ready for pictures! They have put a lot of time and effort into the Palace to make it perfect for all couples on their special day, and they keep making additions to make it even better in the future. It was perfect, you just have to go see it to really feel the magic!

Our Daughter & Son in law got married here and I can’t recommend it enough!!!! To start with they were a couple that was effected by 2020 pandemic & The owners Penny & Craig were so Generous & easy to work with on a new 2021 date!!  The Palace is a Great location on a hwy. Beautiful country views,outside Pergola & Breath taking dream venue !!! Owners also work with a lot of great vendors that they recommend to you.

The Palace Event Center is absolutely beautiful in every respect! My daughter and son-in-law loved having an outside wedding and the reception inside with tables also set up outside. Penny was gracious to answer a myriad of questions and made sure everything was set up just right. They were gracious throughout the entire process as well as the day of the wedding. They view each wedding as special and unique and appreciate each individual love story. Grateful for such a gorgeous venue so close to home.

The palace was absolutely beautiful, penny and Craig were so easy to work with. From answering numerous emails quickly, to making sure we had the drinks we wanted. They arranged the tables and chairs just the way, and the bathrooms were very clean. Would absolutely recommend any couple to rent this event center.
