Elizabeth Sigurdson McGregor(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 16-07-2022 Poplar Springs Manor was the perfect choice for not only our wedding day, but our whole wedding weekend! We chose to rent out the inn on site, allowing our entire bridal party and parents to stay together. Meagan and the staff at the inn were so warm and welcoming. The rooms were all uniquely beautiful, clean, and comfortable. Our bridal party was in love with the inn! The buy-out allowed us all to hang out together each night on the patio. We had our rehearsal dinner, wedding/reception, and Sunday brunch all at Poplar Springs Manor. Lindsay was our coordinator and she was PHENOMENAL! She is extremely organized, detailed, and knowledgeable. In the months leading up to the wedding, Lindsay was very responsive and helpful with my 1 million questions. My bridesmaids were previously married and raved about how organized she was, starting with our rehearsal. She has a \"take charge\" personality, while also making sure the bride and groom are always calm and happy. On the day of the wedding, there was rain in the forecast so our outdoor ceremony had to be moved inside. Lindsay worked with my vendors to move it inside and it ended up being so beautiful. Lindsay knew my exact vision and helped execute it perfectly. I never knew when something went wrong (which is inevitable on your wedding day). In addition to Lindsay, our banquet captain was Fredis. Fredis and his team were equally fantastic! The food by Gala Cuisine is not your average wedding food, it was soooo delicious! Every single guest was raving about how good the food was, as well as how beautiful the venue was. It's a stunning hidden gem, located down a private country road in Northern, VA. The tree lined drive and stone walls of the manor make perfect backdrops for photos. I can't imagine getting through the stress of wedding planning without Lindsay. Poplar Springs Manor was the venue of my dreams! It is gorgeous inside and out. They also have an Inn on site you can rent out and the Carriage House can provide a brunch the following morning, which elevated our wedding weekend! Our day-of coordinator Lindsay and her assistant Laia were great. They helped keep everything on time and ensured all the details I wanted were accomplished - like providing lights and props for the dance floor at the end of the night & making sure my flower arrangements made it to the morning brunch. My husband and I have been together for 8 years by the time we got married, so we had been dreaming about finding the perfect place to celebrate with our friends and family for awhile. We looked throughout Northern Virginia and Maryland, but nothing felt quite right until we found the Manors. We initially came to look at Raspberry Plain Manor (which was also beautiful!), but Nicholas suggested we take a look at Poplar while in town & it blew us away. The Inn on site is extremely convenient- we did a buyout so that the wedding party and our family & a few out-of-town guests could stay on site with us. This made rehearsal dinner, wedding, and the goodbye brunch run super smoothly because everyone was on site the whole time. It also let us spend more time with our loved ones than we would have otherwise- we could gather around the fire pits or by the pool. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and we felt very welcomed! The ballroom is gorgeous, and the smaller ballroom has gorgeous stone with incredible character. We wanted a venue that had amble indoor space in case of rain, and this knocked it out of the park! All our vendors had great things to say about working with Poplar staff, and our wedding day ran SO smoothly. The getting ready spaces were spacious and conveniently located. It was nice for the wedding party to be able to run back and forth between the rooms on site during the chaotic prep hours! Panera also delivers to the manor, so we were able to have lunch arrive while we were getting hair & makeup done which was awesome. Another member of the team did our rehearsal the night before, and then Lindsey handled planning & the day-of. They did an amazing job planning our ceremony and reception- everything from the layout of the ceremony to the linens and signature drinks, Lindsey had an answer to all of our questions and was super communicative throughout the whole process. We had a couple large items we were bringing in (3,000 paper cranes & a giant greenery wall), and she helped coordinate drop off so we could have everything set up ahead of time. I just wanted to say thank you again to everyone at Poplar for making our dream day a reality! Reviewed on 05-09-2023

When we toured Poplar Springs Manor for the first time, we knew this was going to be the perfect choice for our wedding. With the tree grove, the pond, the stone house, everything was beautiful and just what we envisioned. We chose to buy out the inn for our closest guests and this was a great choice! Everyone that stayed there had only good things to say about the rooms and the service there. Lindsay was our coordinator, and she was fantastic! She went above and beyond a wedding coordinator's basic functions. She originated so much helpful advice and helped us with all our questions spot on. Within an hour of dropping off the decorations, we didn't even give any direction and half of the items were already in their right place. On the day of, she was everywhere at once and guiding everything along so professionally. Any worry we had was taken care of so smoothly. She really is the star of the Poplar Springs Manor. The food by Gala Cuisine was so delicious! Every single guest was raving about it. It was all served efficiently and in a timely manor. No one was left waiting for long considering the amount of people they had to serve. By the end of the day everything was wrapped up and ready to go almost immediately without a single item missing. We couldn't recommend Poplar Springs enough if you would like to have a magical and stress free wedding day. Reviewed on 14-08-2023

Poplar Springs is an incredible venue. We had our ceremony outside between the trees and it was truly a dream. Inside, there is a ballroom with massive windows and a stone room that's a great backup option in case it rains. We had our closest guests stay at the Inn onsite, which brought all of us closer together and allowed us to do a little afterparty after the reception ended. The food was delicious. Our guests were actually taken aback and were in awe the whole evening because the venue was such a beautiful backdrop.Throughout the planning process, the staff at Poplar was incredibly accommodating, flexible and understanding. In particular, I would like to extend special thanks to Lindsay, our wedding coordinator. I cannot speak highly enough of her. She just knows what she's doing. She was efficient, friendly, always one step ahead anticipating what might arise, and had a light public touch on the wedding day despite organizing everything behind the scenes. We had a problem with our shuttles at the end of the night, and I didn't even find out about it until later on because Lindsay quietly took care of the situation without even involving us. The staff at the Inn was also incredible and very accommodating. Meagan, the Inn manager, is so sweet, a great listener, and was so invested in making our vision come true - a true pleasure to work with.Thank you Poplar!!! Reviewed on 24-07-2023

Gabrielle Crouch(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 14-01-2023 Overall, I loved this venue! Our time with the venue was pretty rushed because we switched venues late. I was not extremely happy with the salesman or the venue administrator. Until we me with our coordinator, the vibe everyone gave us seemed to be that they were doing us a favor by letting us rent the space? Half of my questions went unanswered and the contract was veeeeery strict. It was odd. My mom planned our bridal shower in the Carriage House and there was some type of misunderstanding with pricing that seemed (to my mom) less than honest, but I wasnt involved in it so I cant speak on specifics there. I just got icky vibes early on in our planning with Poplar Springs.Once we met with our coordinator, Lindsay, about two months out, it was like a 180 degree change. She was accomodating, helpful, attentive, and organized. She dealt with our millions of questions, let us change our mind over and over, got excited about our choices, reassured us that we were on track, gave recommendations, handled my vendors, and overall took sooo much stress off of the whole planning process. There was a mishap with decorating for the bridal shower, apparently no one was there to let my mom in and she didnt have time to fully decorate. Lindsay comped our Vendor meals to make up for it. We had about 12 people say they weren't coming after we'd already finalized the seating chart. Lindsay allowed me to update my seating chart until the last minute and she added 30 minutes onto the end of our reception to account for the missing guests. The team also gave us leftover food at the end of the night for this reason.I was unfortunately very, very sick on my wedding day. I made it through the ceremony and then I couldnt stand and was nauseous, eventually throwing up several times. Lindsay and her assistant, Laia, stayed by my side the whole time. They brought me crackers, gingerale, completely rearranged our (very, very tightly packed) timeline on the fly and never once made me feel like I was ruining the event (although it was hard not to be upset). The guests were none the wiser and still had a fabulous time. Despite me being sick, it was still a wonderful and beautiful day. I didnt have much interaction with the staff other than the coordinators, but I think that means they did their job. They cleaned up beautifully, the food was incredible and I truly didnt have to worry about a thing. Our centerpieces were eclectic. Each one was different and had upwards of 10 pieces including glass antiques, tea pots, books, flowers, vases, candles, etc. I woke up the next day and everything had been wrapped up and neatly packed up for us. It was all sitting in the entryway of the Manor House to be picked up. I was so shocked. I didnt expect them to actually wrap up everything for us like that. The team at the Manor House is amazing and every one of them killed it that night.Lastly, Lindsay messaged me right after the wedding and checked on me. I found that so sweet and so kind. Overall, the coordinators made this experience amazing. I would absolutely recommend Poplar Springs for a wedding. Reviewed on 07-02-2023

Christine Bogdan(other)3 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 30-10-2021 Awesome Venue! Beware of the director of events. Let me start with I am the Mother of the Groom. I think it fair to warn future Mrs & Mr. No Bride & Groom should deal with this frustration on their wedding day!We are grateful for Nicholas, Shelly, Ken, Andy & Eddie! From the get-go, they were the epitome of professionalism. The level of 'give a damn' in customer care was heartfelt. The good began to unravel when Penny, the events director, became involved. Here are the highlights.Hands-offPenny informed the bride-to-be 2 weeks before the wedding that she would be \"hands-off\" on the wedding day. She would be responsible for finding someone to move the flowers & decorations. When the bride-to-be called the florist to see if they could offer assistance. She received an earful about Penny's rudely unprofessional behavior & it would be the last wedding they do at this venue.RehearsalRehearsals are 'key & essential'. Traditionally done the Friday before. This detail should have been made clear in the initial consultation. I am perplexed by a wedding venue that only holds rehearsal on the weekdays from 11-3 pm.Wedding DayThis event should have been an easy event for Penny. The bride-to-be had been working with a Wedding Coordinator ( A very talented Aunt) for several months prior. The Bride-to-be presented Penny with excel spreadsheets that were meticulously detailed, making her job extremely easy. (Take note ... this is where the bride-to-be innocently went wrong. She did not get in writing that she was working with another wedding coordinator. She assumed their director of events would be ethically professional as her Aunt)It was vital to understand what Penny meant by \"hands-off\" I had a team of family members ready to help. When I inquired, she replied, \"Don't worry, I've got this.\" She did not. Between the ceremony & reception, I was left to assist the team of family members with getting the large wooden arches into the building with no direction from penny. The ReceptionExecuting the events on the timeline is the essence of Penny's job. Teasing out the fine details for each event to shine brightly around the Bride & Groom is the essence of her job. She completely missed staging & successfully executing the Champagne toast & late to cueing up the cake-cutting event. The Groom had one heartfelt request that was properly discussed with Penny 2 weeks before the wedding. He requested a toast to the fallen soldiers. The morning of, I introduced myself to the bartender Andy. We discussed the policy; the whiskey was only for the toast. 45 minutes before the toast, I went over to give Andy the heads up to start pouring. Penny approached the bar telling the bartender to stop & proceeded to argue with me in the middle of the reception. Later the Bride shared that Penny approached her at the Sweetheart table & told her I was causing problems. Penny failed the Bride & Groom on their wedding day. She was rudely argumentative, and her passive-aggressive behavior caused more heartache than joy within the wedding party. Shamefully, she presented the Bride & Groom with more problems than solutions on her wedding day. I shared a lengthier email with Poplar Springs Manor in hopes they would fix the situation before the Mr & Mrs returned from their Honeymoon. They did not. And, as I said in my email to Poplar Spring Manor, I would choose to move forward with my review for all the future Mrs. & Mr if they did not. Reviewed on 12-06-2022

Penny Shafazand did a fabulous job as our day of/month of coordinator! Lindsay knocked our wedding out of the park. From the moment she took over our account it was an incredible experience. Her speed on emails and knowledge of the property/wedding planning was the remarkable. The venue, food and staff day of the wedding was incredible! We tried the food back in 2020 and I forgot how incredible it was. Every part of the day just kept getting better and better. Thank you, Lindsay, again for such an incredible experience. Penny, our coordinator, took great care of us during the wedding (even providing us with food and our signature cocktails while we were taking photos after the ceremony). He was INCREDIBLY responsive (I think he called me 45 seconds after I filled out the inquiry), super friendly and easy to work with. The virtual tour was SO useful and completely comprehensive. Sydni Davis(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 01-08-2021 We definitely loved having our wedding at Poplar Springs Manor with the gorgeous views. At the beginning, we ran into some issues with our contract, but was able to talk to the owner who resolved the issue. The food with Gala Cuisine (Poplar Spring's in house catering) was amazing and allowed us to have lots of options to help elevate our buffet. The best part of this venue was our wedding coordinator- Lindsay. She literally was like having a friend help with everything we could think of- and even managed to pull out hair ties for one of our long haired groomsman who got too sweaty. She truly helped me feel confident and comfortable at my wedding and took all the stress out of coordination with the other vendors. Reviewed on 26-09-2021

There are various beautiful ceremony sites, the scenery is beautiful, and the food was delicious. I also loved that the backup rain plan did not include having the tables visible to guests. Although our communication with the venue in the beginning was slightly difficult, especially when covid started, our coordinator made everything so worth it. Lindsay did an excellent job coordinating the wedding. Throughout the entire process she was able to assist myself and my mom with our many questions, and she was able to assist with whatever was needed on the wedding day. The rooms are beautiful and spacious and the staff were very accommodating to our group. We did our RHD at the manor as well and it was so beautiful! The food was delicious and they were able to accommodate all of our wishes. We worked with Lindsay as our coordinator and she was WONDERFUL! We had coach buses bring guests from another hotel without issue. The food was exceptional and guests talked about it for days. They allowed us to write provisions in the contract to ensure our wedding had absolutely everything we wanted from a bounce house to shot distribution during the traditional polish bridal dance. Originally schedule for June 13, 2020 - postponed to April 10, 2021. I worked closely with Khatera to make sure my daughter and new son-in-law had a weekend to remember. Fredis was our Captain and he was wonderful. The staff went above and beyond for my family and made the experience something we will never forget. Most of the family stayed at the Inn and the rooms were beautiful and the new manager was amazing! All of our guests were well taken care of and the bride and groom were treated like royalty. Overall a wonderful experience once we moved past the contract phase. The man who helped work out the contract was not pleasant in any way and after I reached the end of my rope Khatera put me in touch with upper management and Sami was very gracious and quick to set things back on the right path. He had me work with Khatera from that point on and I don't know what I would have done without her. She was always at my side making sure everything was just as we wanted it. LK Seyer(parent)1 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 04-09-2020 We had a terrible experience for our wedding at this venue and would never recommend it. Throughout the planning, Gala Cuisine were terrible about giving or sharing information with us. When we paid them, they also refused to give us invoices or receipts preferring to just “email people” which is both amateurish and unprofessional. When they did not offer the kind of food we wanted, we used an outside caterer. They made it very difficult for other caterer (who did a great job) and did not tell us the requirements for our caterer until we insisted on having a copy.Due to COVID, the wedding had to be rescheduled and no Saturday was available, so it was switched to a weekday. Then they refused to return the extra money we had paid for a Saturday wedding. When the ceremony had to be moved indoors due to last minute rain, there were arguments with the staff for not putting out enough chairs for all the wedding guests to sit down. During the reception, the new ballroom had leaking windows, loose wiring, and terrible acoustics . Then the wedding coordinator harassed us to clean up and be out of the rooms when we still had 1 ½ hours until the end of our event. Some of the planned activities of the evening were missed by the family due to this harassment. We do not recommend anyone use Poplar Springs or work with this company if they wish to have pleasant memories of their wedding day. It was the second place we visited and we knew right away it was the spot. Gorgeous property, great food, and excellent people. Working with the team there, specifically Turon and Khatera, has been awesome. We had our wedding in October 2020, so I know we asked them a ton of questions due to COVID, and they handled everything promptly, professionally, and occasionally with humor which we really appreciate! Our wedding day absolutely would not have been what it was without our coordinator Khatera. She is fricken gem and I'm thankful she was a part of our wedding planning experience. Crystal Iverson(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 20-04-2019 Our wedding could not have been more perfect and we have Poplar Springs and Gala Cuisine to thank for that. We have always known about the property but once we attended their open house wedding expo, we were blown away and booked right there on the spot! We chose to have everything onsite... rehearsal, rehearsal dinner, ceremony, reception, and also booked the Inn for our guests. The property, landscape, and views were so stunning and picturesque. The Manor House, Carriage House, and Poplar Inn were in tip top shape and exactly what we envisioned for our old Virginia horse country wedding. The food was out of this world AMAZING. The staff worked with us throughout the entire planning process and catered to our every need. And on the big day they were right there at every turn to prevent and resolve any issues and to make sure everything ran smoothly. That allowed us to focus on getting married and not stress over minor details. It was such a perfect day nobody wanted it to end so they even allowed us to extend our reception 3 hours past the original end time! We had 100 guests and even two weeks later, everyone is still calling to comment on how beautiful and perfect everything was. We are so grateful to Poplar Springs and thankful that we made the right choice. When we originally booked with them, they were under different management. The staff with Gala Cuisine hit the ground running once the change was made, and the planning and preparation became even easier with them. Laura was our main point of contact and day-of coordinator, and she was fabulous. She was very responsive to all of our emails and questions, and her years of event planning and coordination quickly became very apparent when helping with the details of our wedding day. Johnny was also very involved and worked so hard on the day of the wedding to make sure our guests were well taken care of. Everyone has been raving about the food! Chef Woody is incredibly talented, and I know we will be talking about his filet mignon and Chilean sea bass for years to come. We took full advantage of booking the entire inn on the property for our wedding guests that weekend, and it was so fun to have friends and family all get to stay there with us. It made for a very unique and intimate weekend that you could not get at most other venues. BJ at the inn was delightful- she went above and beyond for our guests, and truly made all of us feel so warmly welcomed. So many great changes were made to the venue in the past few months- the expanded stone patio, beautiful new floors inside, as well as a completely renovated bridal suite and groom's suite- both are gorgeous and we feel so lucky that they were done so quickly, so we were able to enjoy them on our wedding day. I know that Poplar Springs has more positive changes planned in the near future, and we are so appreciative of everything they did to create a beautiful wedding weekend for us. Reviewed on 07-11-2018
