Prevailing Winds Lodge Blue Mounds/Madison Reviews

I am a wedding photographer and photographed a wedding at Prevailing Winds Lodge in 2022 and it was such a stunning venue to work at! The Lodge was an excellent place for the couple to stay on their wedding weekend and host their friends and family there. The grounds make a beautiful backdrop for an outdoor ceremony under the trees. The venue also has lots of space for an outdoor reception under a tent. I would definitely recommend booking your wedding ceremony and reception here! Reviewed on 28-12-2023

Wow. Words are not enough. Steve and his team were incredible and our wedding would’ve paled in comparison in any other setting. “DIYourself” is a myth unless you’ve done it before and Steve was incredible throughout the entire process. From day one he was there to answer or facilitate the answer to any question. Wedding coordinator not even necessary with this guy on your side. Even his response time was amazing. Immediately. Always. (I even received a response to a 2AM question within 15 minutes. The man must not sleep.)The venue is stunning. TOUR IT. See for yourself. It’s the great outdoors meets first class eloquence at its finest. We’re so grateful to have stumbled on this little (not so little really) slice of heaven and couldn’t have made it the masterpiece it was without the PWL team. ❤️ Reviewed on 04-12-2023

If you have found this venue then you can stop looking and touring. Jen, Steve and Karo are amazing to work with. They will carry you every step of the way. From the moment we booked it was like we also hired a wedding planner that knew our venue so well. Their personalized wedding guide was our best resource for vendors, layouts, timelines and all the little tricks you never think of since most of us have never planned a wedding before. The only thing that outshined the staff was the venue itself. The lodge was the perfect place to relax throughout a high stress weekend. Being able to have all our people with us for a couple of days allowed us to build memories that will far outlast any wedding video. We loved that we had multiple options for a ceremony location and the views from the prairie are as good as the views from Blue Mound State Park. We also loved the breeze blowing through the prairie and the fact that we could use the natural backdrop of wildflowers to save money on crazy decorations. We wish we could give 10 stars and a live testimonial for all that this venue helped us create on our special weekend. Reviewed on 10-11-2023

The property is amazing and the lodge is INCREDIBLE. It was so much fun being able to have our wedding party stay there at the lodge with us for the entire weekend. Our guests could not stop complimenting the location. The owners, Steve and Jen, are great people. Let's be honest, planning a wedding is stressful, but working with Steve and Jen made it way easier. They were not only professional and attentive, but also genuinely caring and invested in making our day unforgettable. Steve and Jen went above and beyond to make our wedding weekend the best possible. From the moment we started looking into venues and reached out for information they were quick, clear, and informative. We knew within the first 5 minutes of meeting with Steve (in the dead of winter) that this was where we wanted to get married the following summer, Steve himself literally sold the venue knowing that he was coming along with it. The lodge is incredible and the prairie is jaw dropping at sunset. If we had to plan our wedding over again we would choose prevailing winds lodge 100 times over. Reviewed on 06-08-2023

We had an absolutely great experience at Prevailing Winds Lodge! Over years of hard work and dedication Steve and Jen have created a fairytale venue so beautiful that you might as well forget about decorations because everyone will be enamored with the view. Steve and crew were so helpful with every aspect of our weekend. They were a positive force to be reckoned with that handled issues we’ll never know about because they never reached us. We can’t recommend this venue and group enough (and a special shout out to Karol for all her hard work, make sure you pull her onto the dance floor so she can show you what real dancing looks like)! Our friends and family had so many wonderful things to say about the venue and Steve and crew. They truly made our wedding a special day and we will always remember our day (up until a certain point when our memories weirdly got a little hazy). Reviewed on 08-07-2023

Steve and his team are also interwoven into the fabric of our entire experience. They were straight-forward and sincere at every turn. When we were needing guidance and support throughout the planning process, Steve was very responsive and gave practical advice. His team was empathetic and thoughtful with me, my husband, our friends, family, and other vendors. We were always very comfortable with Steve's reassurance; it's not his first rodeo. It's not his first rainy day :) The Lodge and property are stunning. While it is a beautiful place, the atmosphere is casual and allowed us to feel at home. Our close family and friends were able to stay the night before and after our wedding, which was great for our nerves and my grandparents' comfort. The entire weekend intimate and memorable, from tapping kegs in the prairie before the Rehearsal Dinner to late night singing on the back deck. My grandmother was in her glory for our wedding day brunch, visiting with our hungover friends while sitting at the breakfast counter. My grandpa felt right at home watching Badger football while catching up with Steve during his morning check-in. The PWL Experience is free-forming. Other venues have pre-defined packages that allow you to think less, which might be less stressful, but working with Steve at the Lodge allowed us to customize everything. Our wedding day felt like us, and I can't thank these folks in Blue Mounds enough for that. Due to a separate vendor not fulfilling their contract, we experienced a major crisis the day before the wedding due. Once we found out, I did not hesitate to ask Steve for help. He went above-and-beyond to find a solution. Looking back, what he did was amazing. He called on favors. He provided us options on how to handle the problem. He took me from a nose-dive back to cruising altitude. No couple should have to go through what we went through, but all couples should feel comfortable with Steve as their co-pilot. They are understanding and compassionate with the emotions and family dynamics that come with planning a big event. It’s definitely worth the money and the pictures do not do the venue justice. It’s a secret gem in an amazing and convenient location to still feel “out in the county.” The amenities are high quality, the home is so comfortable and you could hole up in the cabin for weeks with enough groceries. The decks and porches add to the versatility of the home, and the 44 acres create lots of walking opportunities and places to explore! Lots of fire pits and different “nooks” to hang out in. Cannot say enough good things :-)We didn’t end up using this venue, but did put a deposit down. As we changed our plans to get married in Vegas, they were communicative, fair and upfront about what to expect. I felt it was important to write a review because of just how wonderful it was to work with this family and the staff they employ. Reviewed on 18-01-2020

Kristin Durst(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 24-08-2019 This was the only venue my husband and I toured and after five minutes we were sold. It’s gorgeous, truly an “experience” in the best form of the word. We had the pleasure of working with the coordinator Shannon, recommended by Steve, the owner, and she was SPECTACULAR! She knows the venue like the back of her hand and had answers to our questions immediately. Steve and Jen were also wonderful, focusing on us and our needs the entire weekend. We used the lodge for our wedding party which was so wonderful. The minute everyone walked in they were in awe and didn’t want to leave by the end of it. We were able to customize everything we wanted to fit our unique style and all of the guests couldn’t stop raving about how it was so “us”. My favorite part is, the venue doesn’t overtake your wedding with questionable carpet or weird wallpaper, it compliments the day, not only for photos but for the experience of the guests. As we were wrapping up and walking down from the prairie for the last time we were extremely sad to leave. Prevailing Winds is a special place we can’t wait to visit again! Reviewed on 17-09-2019
Lori McGowan(other)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 21-10-2020 After talking the kids down from a destination wedding in Alaska (great idea but impractical) our daughter found this little \"slice of heaven\" practically in our own backyard. Prevailing Winds Lodge provided the perfect backdrop for the absolute BEST DAY EVER! The owners, Steve & Jen were so accommodating, responding to all questions and concerns (big or small) in a timely manner and offering great insight into set-up, vendors, etc. On \"game day\" they were the ultimate hosts providing seamless support all the way from unloading photographer's equipment to checking on us to see if we needed anything to shuttling guests from the parking area to and from the ceremony location. And what a location it is!! Scenic views of Blue Mounds and the bucolic countryside had guests in awe of the setting. And we haven't even mentioned the lodge yet! The beautiful log cabin lodge was able to comfortably accommodate the entire wedding party and the fully equipped kitchen afforded us the ability to hold the rehearsal dinner there as well-a casual cookout to start off the festivities. The cabin's rustic interior provided incredible photo opportunities and ample room for the guys and girls to get ready all at the same time. Prevailing Winds Lodge offers a blank slate to create your dream day! And while it lends itself to DIY, I recommend great vendors to help it go off without a hitch. In addition to Jen & Steve, we used the following amazing local vendors: Bistro 101-Catering and bartenders; Mt.Horeb; Errin Hiltbrand Photography; Thrive Photography and Films; Neira Event Group-Day of Coordinator and Floral; Saturns 8 DJ's who had the dance floor packed all night!); Monson Septic (portable luxury restrooms-big hit!); Event Essentials-tent, lighting, tables, chairs, dishware, etc. (Fantastic crew! Jackie there helped us choose exactly what we would need. Crew leader said Prevailing Winds is one-of-a-kind in it's unique beauty for an event like this, and he's seen a lot!); Miller & Sons supermarket-cake and bar supplies; Marah's Elegant Bridal-bride's gown; Men's Wearhouse-guy's suits, Holiday Inn & Fairfield Inn in Verona for accommodations; and Lamers Bus Lines-shuttle serves to and from hotels. There was nothing but rave reviews from all of our guests and we can't thank Jen & Steve enough for sharing Prevailing Winds Lodge with us to make our daughter and son-in-law's dream wedding day a reality!! Days after we booked our September 2018 wedding with Steve, we found out we were having a baby due the week before our wedding. Steve was nothing but happy for us and was quick to help us find a new date in 2019. A few elements of our wedding changed over the next year and Steve approached each question, late night text or email with new ideas and pictures, always with humor and willingness to help. Our spring prairie wedding celebration was beautiful and every part of the long weekend was stress free (not only because we were already married and celebrating our 1 year wedding anniversary by then but) because we knew Steve was there taking care of every element behind the scenes, ensuring everything was perfect. It was great getting to know Steve and learn a bit about his family over the past year and a half. Our 8 month old baby girl had a great time dancing, relaxing in the lodge and enjoying the fresh air up on the prairie throughout the weekend. We wouldn’t have wanted to change anything! Thomas Schwarze(groom)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 29-06-2019 Prevailing Winds is that venue you see and immediately think \"Wow! ...but there's no way I can afford this.\" After comparison shopping around Dane County, I guarantee this is competitive with several mainstream venues, and you get so much more! Steve bent over backwards to help us on our wedding day, providing rides to different parts of the property for our elderly guests, communicating with vendors on our behalf, helping with setup, and being available for the entire 3 days we were there to answer any questions. He and his staff shuttled all of our guests from the parking area near the entrance to the property so no latecomers would interrupt our ceremony. The lodge itself was an amazing stay. Our parents and close relatives were able to stay there instead of renting rooms in Madison or in Blue Mounds or Mt. Horeb. The kitchen was fantastic for our food prep. And from the back deck, we could clearly see the stars each night that simply aren't visible when you live near a lot of light pollution (bring a telescope!).We had our ceremony in the oak grove and our reception up on the hill. The mosquitoes were non-existent. We walked the paths on the property and visited the creek further into the woods.Every part of our experience at Prevailing Winds was stellar, and we may just consider renting the lodge for a vacation at a later date. Our guests were impressed, and the property had every perfect backdrop you could want for wedding photos! And there is nowhere on the property where you can see any kind of urban sprawl or roads. Daniel Harrison(groom)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 15-06-2019 We are thrilled that we ended up settling on Prevailing Winds as our wedding venue! The setting is pretty stunning in any type of weather (we saw it in snow, rain, and sunshine); the lodge and surrounding area is beautiful , and the hilltop where the tent was is absolutely gorgeous - the countryside just drops away in every direction, and the resulting views are breathtaking. We ended up having rain forecasted during our event, so we “audibled” and decided to move our ceremony inside the reception tent. This ended up working out wonderfully, the tent created a cozy, intimate, and beautiful (and dry!) atmosphere for our guests, who were then able to stay in one location throughout the entire afternoon and evening.Steve was awesome to work with throughout, proactively reaching out to us to make sure we had everything we needed, offering advice on pretty much anything when asked, and working directly with all our various vendors (tent, catering, DJ, restrooms, other rental companies), as well as with our own day of helpers and friends who set up all the decorations, seating assignments, etc, to make sure everything went off smoothly and without a hitch. He was extremely responsive to any emails / messages, and we felt at all times like we were in good hands. This venue is likely a bit more pre-wedding date work then some other places, as stuff like the tent, catering, decorations, & DJ are not included (though we did end up renting a bunch of stuff having to do with decorations, lighting, etc. However, this ends up allowing the freedom to truly plan your perfect event, and make it your own in almost every way. We had over a year to plan, so for us being able to choose exactly what we wanted for everything from the large stuff like tent type and tent walls, restrooms, food / drinks / dessert, location and times for everything including pictures, to the more standard stuff like decorations, music, etc, was great and enjoyable too! Plus, we used the lodge not only as the setting for our rehearsal dinner, but also as a place to house ourselves and our entire wedding party as well!We ended up with a wedding that was not only scenic, gorgeous, and joyful, but also one that was so personal and that much more meaningful as a result. From the initial meeting through the wedding day, every detail was considered and handle with a level of care and attention better than we could have hoped for. As an example, we had some very cold weather the day of the wedding. At the last minute, we decided to move the ceremony under the tent where the reception was instead of having the ceremony outside, as was planned. Steve and his crew handled this last minute change entirely by themselves. He even rearranged chairs and tables under the tent so that the guests had a better view of the surrounding landscape through the windows of the tent. The lodge itself was incredibly comfortable and a lovely little retreat for our wedding party. The landscape was incredibly well maintained and made a lovely backdrop for our photos. Leah Granitz(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 06-10-2018 We had our wedding on October 6th, 2018 and we couldn't have been happier with Prevailing Winds and Steve & Jen's services! We've received feedback from many guests about how gorgeous the views were on top of the hill, even on an overcast day! We wanted to, as much as possible, be surrounded by nature for our wedding day and this was the perfect venue for that! When envisioning our wedding, we had wanted to create time and space for family and friends who we don't see very often to gather and spend time together...the lodge was warm and welcoming and perfect for this, allowing for small gatherings before and after the actual wedding! We even hosted our rehearsal dinner of about 45 people at the lodge. With a couple of additional tables we brought from home, it fit everyone comfortably and helped to created a laid-back and fun atmosphere which is exactly what we wanted for the evening!Throughout the planning process, Steve was incredibly helpful, answering e-mails, phone calls and texts promptly and thoroughly. He offered ideas and suggestions for what had worked well in the past, but was also very open to trying new things (specifically, purchasing and hanging fairy lights in a certain way). Steve went above and beyond in many ways to help my vision become a reality, but what I appreciated most was his philosophy of \"its your day - we want to do everything in our power to make your vision come together.\" He was also incredibly patient throughout the whole process, but especially the days before and after the wedding, fielding countless questions and requests from me and my crew. One of the perks of having your wedding at Prevailing Winds is that you can really customize the space. Since you're starting with a blank canvas, there is naturally a lot of freedom in how you decide to decorate and what kind of atmosphere you choose to create all with a beautiful, natural backdrop of rolling hills, WI farmland, and lush greenery. If I were doing this all over again, I would most definitely choose Prevailing Winds again with one addition - a day of wedding coordinator! Steve & his crew did an amazing job on the day of the wedding, helping out with whatever was needed, transporting guests to the ceremony site, assisting with logistics, etc. However, it may have been because of the fact that it rained a lot the night before AND the fact that I had quite a few decorations and things to set out near the ceremony site, but I felt like I ended up asking a lot of my family and friends the day of the wedding. Everything came together beautifully, but I do think having a day of coordinator to help with additional decorations, details, logistics, etc. would have be helpful in my case. However, I do think this is contingent upon the specific couple's vision for their day, how they choose to decorate, the weather and personality of the bride/groom. Overall, I am SO happy with our whole wedding weekend at Prevailing Winds - it was exactly what I had envisioned and I credit the beautiful venue, Steve and his crew, and my family and friends for making everything come together so perfectly! The venue was absolutely stunning in mid-July, with wildflowers in full bloom and with panoramic views of green, rolling hills. It's not far from Madison, but it feels like a world away from any big city. Our guests kept asking us \"How did you find this incredible place?\" and said that it was one of the most gorgeous wedding venues they've been to in the Midwest. The lodge was a perfect home base for our family and friends throughout the weekend. We rented the lodge from Thursday night through Monday morning, and I can't state enough how wonderful it was to have the time and space at the lodge to connect with friends and get ready. We hosted family on Thursday night to eat, craft and play games, and hosted our rehearsal dinner at the house on Friday night. Saturday was - of course - the big day, but being able to stay through Sunday night was so key to round out our perfect wedding weekend. On Sunday night after most of the wedding was cleaned up and folks had hit the road, my husband and I went up to the big meadow on the property with a bottle of wine and some camp chairs to get a great view of the stars and soak in some last memories of our beautiful wedding weekend.Steve and Jenn were so instrumental to making our whole wedding weekend spectacular. Steve is so helpful and straightforward when it comes to questions while planning - he gives you honest answers, and doesn't shy away from a creative challenge. He helped us vet our vendors and gave suggestions for great folks he's worked with, without any vendor restrictions. We planned the wedding on our own, so his expertise was vital to keep everything running smoothly leading into our wedding day. Steve anticipated our needs before we even knew we needed them during the whole wedding weekend, and helped coordinate among vendors with ease. We had the wedding of our dreams, and I strongly believe it was because of the professionalism of Steve and his team. If we could go back in time, we would do it exactly the same. The lodge is beautiful and perfect for hosting a big party. We chose to have our entire wedding party stay with us at the lodge. We made tons of memories at the fire, playing games, getting ready for the big day, and cooking big meals together. The beds are outstandingly comfortable with tons of rooms and no shortage of bathrooms (which is 100% necessary with so many people). I felt so cared for and provided for by Steve and everything that is kept at the lodge. Beyond that, the ceremony and reception areas are gorgeous! It worked amazingly well to have everything in the same location and customizable to make the wedding so personal and exactly what we wanted. The pictures are outstanding and the possibilities are endless. Beyond the physical lodge and venue, Steve and the rest of the staff were incredible. I felt very secure that Steve was available for anything we needed and he truly had our best interest in mind. During our reception, we ran out of a few things and he knew to go get more before we even could ask him to. There was less than ideal weather for the wedding day and Steve went above and beyond by keeping the fire going, providing covered transportation, a dry dance floor and making sure the heater was on. During the planning process, his communication was quick and thorough, and really guided me in making sure everything was taken care of and accounted for during our wedding. The intensity in the emotions... But even just the sheer convenience and decreased stress of it was remarkable. The landscape is INCREDIBLE. Absolutely stunning. It captures all things beautiful about this incredible part of Wisconsin. Rolling hills, stunning farmscapes in the distance, gorgeous pines, an oak savannah... Breath taking. Steve was amazing. Accommodating, profoundly responsive, easy to work with... Laid back but so so so attentive to detail. And preemptive. He was attentive to details we wouldn't have even considered. Jason Hernandez(groom)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 23-12-2018 10/14/2017 we had our 40 person wedding at Prevailing Winds Lodge. I don't think words alone could do this place justice. The lodge itself is beyond amazing. It is stunning with every single accommodation you could ever want or need. The rooms were amazing. The kitchen, family room and dining room were beautiful. There was a ton of space and even a working fireplace. We got married behind the lodge under an arch with the forest behind us. It was raining, but all our guests still had seats and cover from the rain. There were many choices of areas to get married, but my wife and I really liked the arch and the area behind the lodge. We had our reception on the prairie where you can see practically 50 miles in every direction. Once again even with the rain everything worked out great and was beautiful. Also because of the location we were able to have full freedom with no time limits or noise limits. Now one of the best parts of having our wedding here were the owners Steve and Jen. Jen got us started with everything and answered every question we had. From there Steve handled all the set up. He kept in touch with us the whole time until the wedding and literally took care of everything and anything we needed. He was able to find tons of rental needs for cheaper than we could. Not to mention all the amenities the lodge had for weddings. Steve was there every step helping our families and the rental companies set up. It was raining real bad the whole weekend, but he was there to make everything work perfectly. My wife was having a hard time with all the rain and didn't think anything was going to work out. Steve told her that he would make sure everything was exactly the way she had dreamed. He did not break his promise. Steve and Jen even sat in every chair behind the lodge to make sure each guest had a good line of sight to the ceremony. Our wedding could have been a disaster because of the weather, but Jen and Steve made everything perfect. We could not have been happier with the entire experience. We both decided the day after the wedding we would have to come back to the lodge again. If you are reading this looking for an amazing place to get married then I promise you, you have found it. Jade Sipe(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 09-12-2018 We recently hosted our modest wedding at PWL. The Lodge itself is absolutely stunning. Spacious, welcoming but very cozy. We never once found ourselves in need of anything. The surrounding grounds are also very beautiful! We elected for a small wedding which allowed us to keep all our guests under the same roof for the duration of our stay. Best. Decision. Ever. Untraditional as it may be, we created memories with our nearest and dearest that will last a lifetime. The owner was very friendly. He stayed in touch throughout the weekend, which was appreciated. He gifted us a bottle of champagne and even brought us a freshly baked apple pie, which our guests loved! We wouldn’t have change a single thing about our stay. It will always be a special place to us and we hope to make it back some day! Reviewed on 09-10-2017
Briana Lyon(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 26-08-2017 We had our wedding and reception here in late August and it was as cool of a venue as we could have imagined. Steve and Jen are incredible to work with. The lodge itself is an awesome place to stay, and we would spend another weekend there in an instant, even without a wedding involved. You'll need to work separately with a few different vendors (tent, food, DJ) to do a wedding here, which takes some extra planning, but gives you plenty of flexibility to make it your own.We could write plenty more good things, but once you see the place for yourself it will be obvious whether it's what you're looking for. Ali Connelly(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 12-08-2017 There really are no words to express how incredible this venue is, and how amazing the owners, Steve and Jen, and their crew are. My husband and I just got married this past weekend and we stayed from Thursday-Sunday. Every step of the way--whether we needed something last minute or just advice on something--Steve was there to help. These two could not have been easier to work with, and the whole story of how the lodge came to be, and the two of them really drew us to this location. Plus, the scenery isn't bad either! ;) Prevailing Winds Lodge made our day beyond special--more beautiful than we ever dreamed it would be. Thank you very much Steve and Jen for our amazing weekend--we will definitely be back!! :) Reviewed on 16-08-2017
Megan Paup(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 29-07-2017 Prevailing Winds Lodge is the most magical place you could have your wedding. The views are so spectacular and it is exactly what we had pictured for our wedding. Jen and Steve were so helpful with every little detail and so kind and caring to work with. They made sure that everything looked great and ran smoothly for us, which allowed us to relax on our wedding day. We have gotten so many compliments from guests on how much fun they had and how much they loved the views and being able to take the most beautiful sunset pictures out on the prairie during our reception. The lodge was perfect for our large families because we could all stay together and make lots of memories. The lodge is very clean and well kept and so are the grounds. Every little thing about Prevailing Winds Lodge is amazing and we will definitely be returning again some day. Laura Bohmann(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 27-05-2017 My husband and I spent our wedding weekend at Prevailing Winds Lodge, hosting the rehearsal dinner inside the cottage, the wedding up on the prairie, and a brunch the following day. The beautiful lodging and farmland views convinced us that the Lodge was the perfect location for our wedding on our very first visit, and Steve and Jen's attention to detail made every moment of the weekend welcoming and memorable for us.The cottage itself is so beautiful and spacious, allowing our whole wedding party to stay with us for the weekend. Special touches helped us to feel right at home, including fresh flowers in the master suite! The land is perfectly maintained and gave a breathtaking backdrop for our wedding ceremony on top of the hill. When it came to the wedding itself, Steve, Jen and their crew created a worry-free, perfectly seamless day for us. They were extremely helpful in coordinating our guests' arrival and their transportation to the top of the hill for the ceremony; They continued to keep things running smoothly throughout the entire reception, and we can never thank them enough! Alexandra Mai(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 21-05-2016 Words cannot express how wonderful Prevailing Winds Lodge is to host a wedding. Once engaged, we looked months and months for a unique location in Chicago and Wisconsin and fell in love immediately with this property. The lodge is amazing to say the least! It’s beautifully decorated, is very clean & has so much interest. We absolutely enjoyed staying here and my new husband & I contemplated never leaving! Steve (the owner) was wonderful to work with throughout the whole process. He was always available to review anything needed and was extremely helpful during my wedding process (including the big day, I had a lot of peace of mind knowing he was there). I was planning from a different state and he made it very easy for me and really was there for my whenever I was in town or had any questions. The scenery was a perfect backdrop to our reception and the location really created a unique experience for our guests. We choose to do our reception on top of a hill (there are a few different locations you can pick from) and were able to create our dream wedding to our taste. We were married in May and I still have people talking to me about this location!!If you want to give your guests a memorable wedding, Prevailing Winds Lodge won’t disappoint. We can’t wait to come back & were so fortunate to find this location for our day! Reviewed on 30-10-2016

Steve was so easy to work with - answered all my questions, worked well with the different vendors and did so much to make things run smoothly over the weekend. We had our ceremony close to the lodge and our reception up on the hill. In the evening, it felt like the sunset was surrounding us. I think our photographer was in heaven. Many of the guests as well as the caterer, DJ, and photographer mentioned what a beautiful setting it was for a wedding. \r\rThe lodge itself is beautiful. Steve and Jen definitely take pride in the property and are wonderful to deal with. Everything was clean and comfortable. It was nice to be able to relax up there on the days surrounding the wedding. Anonymous (bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 13-09-2014 We rented this lodge this fall (2014) as our wedding site and a place for our family to stay. My husband is stationed in Germany, and his family flew in from New Hampshire and California for our wedding. Since he doesn't have much time with family we wanted to spend our whole weekend with family.\r\rDriving up to the lodge, we knew we had the perfect spot. It is located in the middle of a 44 acre plot of land. We were surrounded by beautiful views of the rolling hills, farmlands, and forests that make up southern Wisconsin in every direction. There are multiple trails on site to go hiking and get amazing views of the scenery.\rThe interior of the lodge provided ample space and comfort for everyone that decided to stay. We had five couples stay there with us from Thursday to Sunday. From the large fireplace in the main room, to the beautiful kitchen to cook in, and the large dining area where we shared our meals. This place offered everything we could have imagined.\r\rBeing a half hour from Madison this was an ideal location for those who flew into the airport. The lodge is close proximity to New Glarus, Wisconsin where we were able to offer the Wisconsin first-timers an amazing experience at the Glarner Stube (a Swiss restaurant) and go on a \"hard hat\" tour of the New Glarus brewery-which is a must see if you're in the area! And afterwards we picked up some brats from the New Glarus meat market and some beer from the brewery to enjoy once we returned to the lodge.\r\rLastly, I have to comment on how amazing the owners were the entire length of our stay. They greeted everyone of our family members with a welcoming smile and handshake. They were always on call and aided us from starting a fire place in the main room, to providing wood in the fire-pit outside, to walking my husband around the site to show him the best photo shoot opportunities for our wedding pictures.\r\rThere is so much more I could comment on about how excellent this place was for our weekend. Everyone boasted about how much fun they had and how beautiful the lodge and it's surroundings were. We are looking forward to returning to this place for upcoming anniversaries! Anonymous (parent)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 07-08-2014 We left our first stay at Prevailing Winds last year knowing that we could consider no other lodging for our daughter's wedding in Spring Green this past August. To begin at the beginning, we walked up the immaculate stone walkway to the exquisite lodge and felt - remember, this was only our second stay - like we were coming home. Not just to a tranquil, tasteful and sumptuous country lodge but to a family that was special to us the moment we met them. We have stayed at many b and b's throughout the country, and nowhere have we found hosts like Jen and Steve. They are extraordinary people who open both their home and their hearts to guests with an uncanny knack for anticipating needs and fulfilling them with generosity, imagination and flair. The many comforts and artistic touches of the lodge (they are everywhere!) are detailed in other reviews, so I will mention instead a few of the things Jen and Steve did for our daughter, her wedding attendants, and her new husband. From the gift of cut flowers from their prairie to a pre - wedding impromptu photo session which produced some of the loveliest pictures of our lovely ladies, to the provision of an elegant, over-sized mirror for dressing and primping, to playing the bride's choice of calming music as she dressed, to the beautifully framed photo from the morning session that awaited us when we returned from the wedding reception (!!), to a sweetly intimate private breakfast table the next morning for the new bride and groom - astonishing kindness and thoughtfulness surrounded us every minute of our stay. There is both precision and perfection in the way that every touch at Prevailing Winds - from the pristine beds and glorious breakfasts, to the tucked-in treats at every turn, to the comfy nooks and beautifully maintained grounds - makes the whole lodge simply shine. But its true beauty comes from the generosity and goodwill of its owners and their desire to make each guest's stay as perfect as it can be. For us this was both a visit to cherished friends and a wedding gift that we will remember always. We are so grateful, Jen and Steve, and we will see you (and your beautiful little ones) soon!
