The Publick House Historic Inn has been creating picturesque New England weddings for over 230 years. Magnificent open- hearth fireplaces, cathedral ceilings and antique colonial chandeliers are just the beginning of a perfectly romantic reception.
I CAN'T RECOMMEND PUBLICK HOUSE HIGHLY ENOUGH!! Our May 2023 wedding was PERFECT!! We loved working with the Publick House. The garden was incredible, the tent was set up so perfectly, everything felt like a dream. The onsite rooms were perfect for many of our guests to stay in. We had one miscommunication on our wedding day, but they worked hard and pulled some strings for us to make things right. We loved working with Cathy O'brien from the first time we met her on our tour to our wedding day she was fantastic. We had a 6th month engagement and she was so helpful in planning and making sure everything ran smoothly in the days leading up to the wedding. We worked with John as our day of coordinator and everything went so smoothly. (After our wedding we realized that he was the same person who stopped me eating something I was allergic to at the tasting event. That was before we had even met him, he just remembered I had listed allergies and caught me. We'd been calling him my guardian angel and it was awesome working with him on our wedding day.) The staff helped with decor set up and tear down which was incredible! It was wonderful knowing my parents and bridal party didn't have to deal with packing up the decor after the wedding and could just go back to their rooms and rest. The FOOD was FANTASTIC. Oh my goodness. We were a little skeptical after our tasting but on our wedding day (when they only had two entres to focus on instead of 20) it was INCREDIBLE. I regret I didn't get more of a chance to enjoy it. Our guests are still talking about how beautiful everything was 7 months later! We absolutely loved working with the Publick House! The Publick House was the absolutely perfect venue for us. We did everything on site - rehearsal dinner, ceremony, reception, and a farewell breakfast afterwards. Highly recommend this for anyone who has many out of town folks coming! It gave us a great opportunity to see and chat with folks throughout the weekend. The staff handled details so well - we had a dedicated contact person for all of our arrangements ahead of time, and then two specific people from the team handled everything day of (including setting up the ceremony and coordinating with our arriving vendors).Only note I would make is that a number of our guests had issues booking rooms in the block via the online system. However, any problems were solved by calling the lodging department directly! Just something to keep in mind as you direct your guests. Reviewed on 20-11-2023

I would have my wedding here in a heartbeat again. Staff and food was great. Grounds are beautiful. However, the heat was unbearable. Yes we got married in July and it was hot and humid but we had our reception inside and was told on our initial tour that the AC worked great. It had to be over 80 degrees in the venue which really limited some guests dancing and enjoying themselves. I feel like the thing most people will remember from my wedding is how hot it was. Which is pretty disappointing. Even the glue for the seating chart didn’t hold up due to the heat. We asked multiple times throughout the reception about the air and was told it was on as high as it could go. One other issue we had was the ac inside “the cottage” which we had rented as a space for the men to get ready in and as a space for the after party. Upon entering the ac was not turned on. It was over 90 degrees, imagine 12 men getting ready in there. Our after party started at 1030 and it was still just as hot because it could never recover from being so hot in there in the first place. We even paid extra to check in early to the space. We did speak to the venue afterwards about the heat issue. They were nice and understanding. They refunded us the cottage which was $850. Ok not bad, however we spent over $30k here and wasn’t compensated for anything else. The most memorable part our guests will have is how hot it was. If I was told about the possibility of this happening of the day was hot I wouldn’t have booked. So I guess the take away is dont get married here in the summer time. Reviewed on 23-07-2023

Overall, my wife and I are extremely happy with how the whole process went for our wedding. A friend recommended Publick House to us because they enjoyed their Publick House wedding so much and everything they said was accurate. Publick House does so many weddings so they know how to make the process as easy as possible and are truly a one-stop-shop since they have an awesome bakery as well, with the wedding cake being included in the package. My wife and I did all the wedding planning ourselves and between us, our event manager, and our day-of-coordinator it went really well. We were maybe a little unlucky with our initial event manager leaving & then our replacement manager being out for a few weeks so we had to be passed around a little bit. This led us to some details needing to be repeated, but the entire team was very helpful and it was totally fine. Cathy, our event manager and Dennis, our day-of-coordinator, were both super helpful. We also had a more non traditional reception with trivia and games (instead of dancing) and they had no issues with that. We had a lot of different decorations and they did a perfect job setting it all up with how we specified. We chose the Hillside arbor (outside) for the ceremony and Paige Hall (in the old historic building/barn) for the reception. This was the best choice we made and personally think this is the best package/location they have. One reason we chose these locations was because the ceremony can be held inside Paige Hall in-case of rain. We ended up having a huge rainstorm the entire wedding day, but honestly it didn’t bother us because Paige Hall was awesome. They worked with us the day of, and let us wait until closer to the event to make the final call for where to have the ceremony. They set up the hall for the ceremony and then cocktail hour was outside the room in The Barn which allowed them to flip the room for the reception. Paige Hall is very beautiful with all the old decoration and wood.If your budget allows, I would definitely recommend upgrading the hors d'oeuvres, as the guests loved them and they were our favorite part of the food. We chose the following and all were delicious (the chicken skewers would be the only option I’d maybe try a different option).1 Spanakopita, 2 Mac & Cheese Croquettes, 3 Braised Short Rib & Manchego Empanadas, 4 Ginger & Chicken Meatball Skewers, 5 Smoked Salmon & Apple Chutney on Crostini. We held our reception at the Publick House in the Garden Tent and it was the most perfect day! We were drawn to the historic nature of the Publick House, the beautiful grounds, the location and the event menu options. My husband is vegetarian, so having quality food (not just pasta with vegetables on a plate) was important to us! Our point of contact during the planning process (Allison) was extremely responsive and organized. She was knowledgeable and was able to walk us through the process - stress free! Whenever we made adjustments or changes, we would receive an updated contract within a day. When we had questions , she would respond quickly and if she did not know the answer, she would find it out for us! Small issues are bound to arise in an event this size and the banquet manager was responsive to fixing these issues immediately. It is important to note that there were no major issues and our guests had no idea that these small issues occurred - which speaks to the efficiency and responsiveness of the team that day. Our day of coordinator ensured we had everything we needed and they helped our day run flawlessly! Our guests raved about the food and the venue! Everyone had a fabulous day! The reason I am giving them 4/5 stars is due to the accommodations the night before. Had we not stayed on property, they would have received a 5/5 star review. We had issues with the AC in the bridal suite which resulted in moving everything to new rooms at 10 PM the night before my wedding. I was disappointed in how the front desk staff handled this situation and was extremely stressed the night before my wedding because of it. My husband and I are are very patient people and understand that things beyond our control can happen. However, we were not pleased at how the front desk staff handled the situation. I don't think that my situation occurs frequently, given that it was record high temperatures, but it did not seem that accommodations staff was prepared to deal with the issues that would arise from this. I will note that I spoke with the GM the following week and he was extremely receptive to listening to my disappointment and feedback regarding the accommodation stiatuion and worked to remedy the situation.Besides the issues with our accommodations, the actual day itself was perfect! The day went exactly like we planned and our guests had a great time! Even with the issues with the accommodations, we would definitely book this venue again! Reviewed on 28-05-2023

The staff were very easy to work with while planning, and really helped us to customize our wedding to our specifications and hopes. The food was fantastic and the catering team and servers went above and beyond to make sure that everything was to our liking and that our needs were met. Shauna did a fabulous job of guiding us through the whole planning process, and we couldn't have asked for a better team to care for us on the day of. They made our decorations look even better than I'd imagined, made sure everyone was where they needed to be for the ceremony, and made sure we were fed and had drinks during the cocktail hour, even as we ran around taking more pictures. My parents particularly appreciated that the Publick House did both set up and take down, especially since my family was coming from far away. They were able to relax and actually enjoy the wedding and after party. The same goes for me and my husband as well. We were able to enjoy the wedding knowing that we were in the best hands. This does not even touch on many other benefits, like how delicious the food was. I have lost track of how many guests have remarked to me that the wedding had the best desserts they've ever had. There's also the way the Publick House was flexible with guests and the way they reached out to make sure all guests had safe lodging for the blizzard, and even offered to let us pivot to having the rehearsal dinner there last minute if we needed to. I cannot enumerate all the ways the staff at the Publick House took care of us, but every single person there was so helpful and such a pleasure to work with, and they truly helped create such a magical day for us. If anything went wrong I never knew it, everything was flawless. The food was great, the cake was AMAZING. They made all our dreams come true in legit a week!! Jennifer Lynds(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 30-12-2017 The Publick House was the first and last venue my husband and I looked at during our search. Something noteworthy about the Publick House was that I was able to speak with someone right when I called, ask my questions, and set up a tour. After reading the reviews and talking with people who had been there before, it was everything we wanted for a great price, so we didn't bother looking elsewhere. The people were great throughout the whole planning process up to the wedding day. Their wedding package included the meals, cake, linens, etc., which was a lot less work for us because we did not have to contact other vendors. On the day of the wedding, we were given a day-of coordinator and a day of assistant who both helped in SO many ways and kept the day stress free. We were thrilled with our choice of the Publick House and would recommend it for anyone thinking about a rustic, winter wedding. Alicia Filewicz(groom)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 30-09-2017 My Wife and I looked at two venues before we looked at the Publick House. Once we saw the beautiful outdoor tent, meticulously manicured grounds, beautiful assortment of flowers and various fauna we knew we had found the venue of our dreams. We were looking at the possibility of a Winter Wedding due to their affordable Winter packages, but once we saw their tent during the Summer months we simply had to have our wedding reception their inside the tent. Cathy O’Brien was our banquet manager and she was a tremendous help. She was there the entire process of the planning the reception. She was able to schedule when payments and details were due months in advance. We got to enjoy all of their available options along with cakes. Whenever we had a question or a concern she quickly answered or reassured us quickly. In short, Cathy was a fantastic coordinator and we would recommend her to family and friends. As for the wedding day itself, we were generally happy with the way everything went. We had over 150 guests, and they were able to accommodate them all especially ones with special needs. They also did a wonderful job handling the food of my friends and family with food allergies. My friends and family with allergies all commented that they were accommodated and cared. We had less than ideal weather, a much cooler day than the week leading up, but the venue was able to quickly bring in tent heaters for our guests comfort. The staff did have issues with some signage that we had made ourselves. Haphazardly placing it in a bush rather than on an easel, just giving off a generally sloppy look. The staff overall were very professional kind and were very impressed with most of everything else. The food received rave reviews, their hor d'oeuvres especially. The food was coursed very well and smoothly throughout the reception. Everything was hot and delicious! The tent was well lit and very clean. The dance floor is a little smaller then some dance floors we have seen but we didn’t feel that it made things too cramped. To an end were very happy with our experience at the Publick House. We felt very comfortable and confident that everything would go as planned. We would highly recommend the Publick to any newly engaged couple for their wedding experience. We were very satisfied! Laura Farquhar(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 19-08-2017 Our wedding was August 2017 and was absolutely amazing. Our ceremony was in the meadow and our reception in the tent – both were beautiful! Luckily we got James as our day of coordinator and he was out of this world! He anticipated all of our needs and got ahead of them. He made sure everything was perfect and how we wanted it. He even helped my grandpa to his seat because he was having trouble walking on the grass. Without James and his staff, our wedding wouldn’t have been nearly as amazing. James was either by my side or my husband’s side the entire day making sure everything was running as smoothly as possible and nothing was forgotten. His staff expertly made sure our guests wanted for nothing. The appetizers were a big hit – we did a mashed potato bar and it was by far my favorite food item at the wedding. Our guests were raving about the three types of bacon laid out!! We also had Crab Rangoon’s and Bacon wrapped Short Ribs passed around. Both delicious! We did the baked scrod and the prime rib for dinner. The baked scrod was cooked perfectly and delicious. The prime rib was very overcooked for half our guests, but still tasted good. It’s wedding food so you can’t expect all that much, but it wasn’t bad. The cake was perfect. Not only was it beautiful, but it tasted suburb. Publick House has a wonderful bakery and it’s clear all our guests LOVED dessert and the fresh rolls/sticky buns on the tables during dinner. The only thing I would change is our sales rep, Cathy. We originally started with Lisa who was wonderful, but she was promoted and we started working with her old manager, Cathy, who was friendly, but not hospitable and regularly made us seem like we were bothering her. I went into the wedding very worried that my vision wasn't heard, but James quickly fixed that and made sure the wedding was exactly what both my husband and I wanted. Overall, I would recommend this as a wedding venue!!! Reviewed on 13-11-2017

I can not even begin to describe how incredible the team at the Publick House is, especially Catherine O'Brien and Kristin Jacobson. And the pictures featured here are nice, but they do not capture how absolutely stunning the grounds are in person. There was some construction going on next door and it still could not take away from the romantic, rustic, New England charm that radiates from this place. We were married in the meadow, under the tree and had our ceremony in the tent. The tent was set up to perfection, everything looked better than I could have imagined it. The food was INCREDIBLE, even the bread basket blew our minds! I highly recommend the orchard chicken dish. My family and friends raved about it all night and the next day. The rooms are beautiful, the beds are comfortable. The staff was there at every turn, shuttling us in golf carts, helping us put on boutonnières, guiding us through the cake cutting, first dances etc. We looked at a lot of venues, but this was the one for us. Also, it was incredibly affordable for everything that you get. The cake for instance is included in the package and oh my god. Amber took over our account for Lisa, our previous wedding sales manager, and she did a great job. She answered all our questions on a timely manner. she addressed all our concerns. The venue itself has a unique historic charm, with all the modern amenities. The location is great, located one minute from I84 with plenty of parking. We had our rehearsal dinner in the Craft Room and it was great, very spacious and comfortable. Our wedding was in the Garden Tent, which looks really nice especially at night. The food is delicious with plenty of variety to choose from. We chose to have the “bacon bar” during our cocktail hour, we cannot overstate how much of a hit that was, it was awesome. They have a bakery onsite that created an amazing cake for us, and we can’t forget to mention their famous pecan rolls. We had an open bar and did not want people to drink and drive and we also did not want to rent buses. People loved that they were walking distance to their rooms, the cottage was available to rent for after the reception and all of our guests had an amazing time at the after party, we were up until 5am! Throughout my entire wedding process the staff was very responsive to my questions and emails. I never waited more than a day for a response from them. Another thing I loved about this place was that everything was included if you did not want to DIY items (I am not a DIY person). I used their centerpieces and card box, the cake was included in the cost. Also the venue puts out all of the decorative items you may have (some places make you assign family or friends to do it the day of). We had our wedding in the Garden Tent with around 125 guests and had planned to have our ceremony at the gazebo next to the tent, unfortunately it rained the day of our wedding BUT the staff was incredibly accommodating, allowing me to wait until the last minute (seriously 15 minutes before the ceremony was supposed to start) to move everything into the tent for our \"Plan B\" ceremony. The rain made no difference as the ceremony was just as beautiful inside their tent and we were still able to get some gorgeous pictures around their perfectly maintained grounds. We toured quite a few venues and The Publick House was by far and away the best value. The cost was very reasonable and their staff support was fantastic from our initial tour down to our day of banquet management. We chose to use their recommended vendors for our DJ (Champagne Toast), Florist (Michele Bernard), and Photographer (Heather Fuller), all of whom were amazing and easy to work with. This is the type of venue that can take care of everything for you, which was ideal for my husband and I as we did not have a lot of time to dedicate to planning our wedding. Outside of the wedding itself, we had a great rehearsal dinner in one of their indoor locations with delicious BBQ and the onsite overnight accommodations were perfect for our guests. We first visited the venue because of it's outdoor options, all-inclusive wedding packages, and reputation for great food, and as soon as we were greeted by the sales team, we knew our wedding would be in great hands at the Publick House. That turned out to be true as the Publick House staff went above and beyond for us throughout the planning process and the wedding itself. Lisa and her sales team were extremely helpful throughout our planning process to answer all of our questions and ensure that every detail was covered. The series of planning meetings and the tasting event with the team allowed us to discuss ideas for food, decor, entertainment, and more with people who have the wedding experience to know what works and what doesn't. They paved the way with some \"homework\" to ensure that we stayed on top of our planning. Lisa and the sales team made themselves available and were always responsive to our emails and phone calls. Her years of experience and friendly personality was one of things that made us decide to get married at the Publick House.\r\rAnthony Scott was our on-site coordinator on our wedding day and I can't say enough wonderful things about him. His calm and friendly personality made the whole day feel stress-free. I didn't have to worry about anything that may have come up, because he took care of everything. He was easily accessible throughout the night, and made sure to check in with us regularly. If there were problems that arose that night, I had no idea! Our wedding day was amazing and a great portion of that success goes to Anthony.\r\rAshley was our bridal party server and she was so much fun! She took very good care of us and made sure we had everything we needed without even having to ask. Jenny Lee(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 03-10-2015 Perfect place to have your wedding, but chose another location for the wedding night.\r\rThe Publick House was perfect for a wedding location. I wanted a location where I could have the ceremony and reception in one location. I originally planned to have the ceremony in the meadow and the reception in Paige Hall, however, due to bad weather both the ceremony and the recreation were in Paige Hall.\r\rThe venue is a beautiful Historic Inn which is maintained well and kept very clean. \r\rMy wedding coordinator was awesome. I was able to plan my wedding from California. I filled out a couple of worksheets and let my wedding coordinator take care of all the other details. Stress free planning! \r\rThe day of my wedding I was assigned a banquet manager. She kept the entire day on schedule, let me know when I was supposed to do things (i.e. ceremony starting, when to enter reception, when to cut the cake, etc). I did not have to put any thought into the timing of the events of the day. She also ensure that we had everything we needed, including beverages in the bridal suite and a round of drinks for the bridal party after the ceremony.\r\rFive Star Wedding location for any bride looking for a stress free wedding!\r\rThe wedding night was another story. My husband and I went out after our wedding for an after party. We returned a little after 10:00. There was another wedding or event going in Paige Hall with VERY loud music with a lot of bass. To the point where pictures and items of the table were rattling. We were hoping it to stop soon and would have found it acceptable if it ended at a reasonable hour, but the event went until after midnight! Our wedding night was ruined by the music. I would not expect a place like the Publick House, which advertises themselves as a quiet Historic Inn to allow such an event to go so late.\r\rThe next morning we went downstairs to get breakfast, which was included in our wedding package, and the host working at the desk was very rude. She informed us that we needed to make reservation for breakfast and she did not know if she could seat us, in a very unpleasant and demeaning manner. She then had us wait for a table for nearly 30 minutes, after several walk-in parties which came after us were seated by other hosts. Also, half the seats in the restaurant were empty. Once we were seated, the breakfast and the service were very pleasant. Although by this point I was already upset at how rude the host was.\r\rOverall, the wedding services were top notch, the wedding day could not have been better and the food was great. I would never suggest staying in the inn to anyone, as the inn was unreasonable loud and the host at breakfast was so rude that I was upset by the time we got to eat breakfast. Reviewed on 09-11-2015

Michael (bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 28-06-2015 We had our wedding at the Publick House in June. It's a good venue and the banquet manager was very accommodating the day of the wedding. They were nice from the start and met with us several times to make sure everything was as planned. Two tips of advice 1) Ask them to pack your plates the day of, you won't have time to eat and their food is fantastic! 2) Opt for your own florist. We went with the in house florist but I don't think she was as detailed as I had hoped she would be. There were many emails early on that went unanswered, maybe it was just a busy time for her. And in our last meeting to square off details she had mentioned she would make a bathroom basket for us, come the day of the wedding, it wasn't there. I was very disappointed. I also thought that the arrangements she put together for us were very small, including the arrangements for the church. Reviewed on 24-08-2015

For instance, during my cocktail hour, my coordinator came to me with a picture of my cake to make sure it met expectations. They also set up everything and take it down for you, so all together they helped remove a lot of the day of stress. Jessica Duquette(bride)1 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 20-09-2014 Our experience with the Publick house was a nightmare. Starting with cocktail hour, we paid for unlimited appetizers for 197 guests, but they ran out 30 minutes into the hour long service. Many guests said they did not receive any appetizers at all. The cheese tray they put out my photographer took a nice picture of, it looked like enough cheese for ten people not almost 200. My meal (the bride) came cold, several guests got cold meals and some did not even get what they requested because \"they ran out\". We paid for an open bar the entire night, yet many guests informed me they paid for their drinks, watched the bartender ring the sale into the register then place the money from my guest into their tip jar. The facility is beautiful but that is the only nice thing I could say about my experience there. I did write a 8 page e-mail to the general manager expressing my disgust, he would not even meet with me, but did reimburse a small portion of what we gave to the Publick house. Devon McGettrick(groom)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 25-10-2014 We had an exceptional experience with the Publick House for our October wedding. We had a small ceremony (65 ppl) in the Barn, followed by an afternoon reception in Paige Hall. We went with the Traditional Brunch package, and the brunch buffet was AMAZING. Our guests raved about how delicious the food was, and there was plenty of food for people to go to the buffet more than once if they so desired. We also had a waffle and omelet station, which were fantastic. The cake was excellent too (we went with white cake with lemon filling, and white buttercream frosting, with a lace design). The Sale staff were all excellent. We worked mostly with Shauna Dandy in the planning stages, and she was excellent about answering all of our questions and emails. The staff were also very accomodating with our table floor plan, which was unusual in that it included both round and rectangular tables, but they made it work! Our day-of coordinator, James Kluge, was FANTASTIC and went above and beyond to ensure that our day went completely smoothly and required no effort or coordination on our part. James was extremely friendly and easy to work with, especially with our rehearsal and rehearsal dinner. The waitstaff were totally unobtrusive and friendly, and we were barely aware of their presence. We used the library as our hospitality room, which worked out very well because there was plenty of space to store our belongings and get ready. The Barn was a gorgeous setting for an intimate ceremony -- our guests loved it as well.\rOur only complaint was that the Front Desk staff could have been more helpful in directing my mother to the Bridal Suite when she arrived that morning. Amanda was my bridal assistant and she was always there when I turned to ask something, it was great. \r\rThe front desk people were excellent with my guests, and even the people in the restaurant made sure to congratulate us. The rooms are adorable, the library very useful, and the cottage was an excellent place to escape to afterward. And the food! We had people raving about this (and this was after months of people complaining that we weren't having red meat or chicken at the wedding). Especially the cake, that was incredible.\r\rI will say that, at the end, I had an odd exchange with a sales assistant. She had been very friendly up till then, but came across rude and stressed me out about a small detail in the last ~month or so. Andrea Lizewski(bride)3 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 22-06-2014 We had heard nothing but wonderful things about the Publick House and they did a wonderful job on the reception. The hall was beautiful, food delicious, the wedding cake was wonderful, and the wait staff very good. The trouble was with our on site ceremony. We had many guests stuck in Mass Pike traffic and our wedding manager reassured us that we could push the ceremony start time up a half an hour until most of our guests arrived at no extra cost. However, she failed to communicate and coordinate this delayed start time with the other wedding manager, who was in charge of the other wedding occurring on the property in the tent, just a short distance away from the gazebo we were getting married at for an outdoor ceremony. We were right in the middle of our vows and the DJ from the other wedding started booming into the microphone the introductions for that wedding's bridal party. The whole time we were exchanging vows and our wedding bands, all we could hear, as well as our guests, was music and the DJ talking over the loud speaker for this other wedding. We put on a brave face and made it through the ceremony but the quality and specialness was certainly tarnished. We redid our vows under the trees on the hill afterwards, thanks to bridal party's suggestion. Our wedding manager was mortified and apologetic, claiming that she was radioing over to the other manager to get the DJ to stop, but the DJ refused. This same manager also said, at a later time, that her walkie talkie died, so whether the other DJ ever got the message or not, we don't know. We were refunded our $500 ceremony fee from the Publick House. They also let the bridal party drink for free for the whole reception, gave us no time limit on the hall, and paid for a pizza party afterwards. However, the damage was already done and I would have much rather paid for everything in full and had a flawless ceremony. It was one screw up on the Publick House's part, but a huge one and I wouldn't recommend anyone to have an outdoor ceremony there, especially if there is another wedding going on. They never tried to upsell us - they knew our budget and respected it but made sure we got everything we could out of it! I felt like through the wedding planning process, I developed new friends throughout my communications with everyone! Cathy, Lisa, Laura and Shauna were wonderful through the planning process! Then wedding day, the manager, Kris was fantastic. She and my bridal assistant, Allie were such a delight. Always with us for whatever we needed each step of the way. We were well aware that they do over 150 weddings a year but we TRULY felt like we were THE ONLY one - that is not an easy task. We held our wedding just after Christmas and I cannot even describe how beautiful the decor was. It was breathtaking. Our guests were absolutely amazed. It was also a WONDERFUL coincidence that the color scheme they chose this year matched our wedding colors. It couldn't have been more perfect. It rained so hard on our wedding day and initially I was disappointed knowing what the forecast was in store as we wanted some outdoor shots BUT fortunately the Publick House is so unique with numerous locations to take pictures - we got some amazing photos. The food was unreal! It was unreal at our tasting and the same the day of the wedding. We also asked for a funfetti cake. Probably the best cake I have ever had. At the end of the night we rented the cottage for our after party. Talk about a perfect spot to have your guests come to unwind and keep the party going. We were in such great hands from the moment we reserved our date last year. We were planning from out of state and Sturbridge was a location that was \"equally inconvenient\" to all of our guests. It was basically a mini destination wedding. We got so many complements from our guests about this venue. For one thing, it has so much New England charm, and the grounds are gorgeous and the perfect backdrop for festivities and photos. It's also convenient for overnight guests - the motel rooms aren't fancy but it was perfect for our friends who are in their mid-20s.. not only are they affordable, we also felt like we were on a college campus with the quad-like set up. Great opportunity for after-partying. The historic inn housed our parents and grandparents, and other family and friends, and we also had a couple of room blocks at other area hotels. We felt lucky to find a venue with so much character that is also a bit of a one stop shop - the food, tent accessories, and cake for example were all included in the price, which is reasonable to begin with. It was both a great value and really convenient since we didn't have to shop around for other vendors for these elements. Another thing our guests raved about was the food. I think oftentimes the food is just so-so at weddings but because the Publick House is a restaurant too, the food was fantastic. The day of the wedding was low-stress because our coordinator was on top of everything. Really it was seamless and it was all thanks to the Publick House and it's awesome staff. She was direct but genuinely excited for us and we never felt like she was just trying to 'sell' extra services to us. She was always available to answer questions by email or phone. She was great. \r\rThere are a few things that came up on the day-of that might be significant to mention. We decided to do an open bar cocktail hour and when my bridesmaids arrived at the Publick House, they were promptly carded before they could be served. I understand that they are trying to abide by the law (very important) but I would have appreciated a heads-up ahead of time because a lot of them did not have their IDs - they were wearing a dress with no pockets (and not one of them was younger than 26). All of the bridesmaids had been carded at the rehearsal dinner the night before as well, so it would have been nice for them to be a bit more flexible. My bridesmaids ended up not getting a drink during the cocktail hour because of this (they were unable to go into the inn because we were taking pictures). My husband and I also had a 'bridal assistant' with our drinks and appetizers and such but when we entered the hospitality room, the platters had not been refreshed and we needed to request food because we were starving. We ended up getting the food really quickly to their credit once we requested it.\r\rWe also ended up being served a completely different side dish than what we asked for. No problem whatsoever but would have liked a heads-up from the staff before the meal if such a big change was necessary. \r\rOther than those (VERY SMALL) things, we were absolutely thrilled with the Publick House. They ended up giving us an extra half hour during the reception because our guests were having such an awesome time at the end of the night. todd biggs(groom)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 14-04-2013 No two weddings are every a like and everyone wants their wedding to be unique, elegant and a reflection of the people getting married on their special day. The initial challenge of picking a venue is knowing what kind of options exist and the best way to work through the options or sometimes called challenges. We met with the sales team on several occasions and talked much more over the phone and through email. Regardless of the situation, they provided a foundation by which we could build the framework of our wedding. First steps was picking a date and review pricing options. Each season is different and dates book fast during the spring, summer and fall. We chose a Sunday morning wedding and they accommodated us with a Friday night rehearsal dinner at a good price compared to local restaurants. Their system is setup such that they provide some level of wedding planning for us. They invited us to a food tasting event where we were able to taste and pick our h'ordeuvres, appetizers, entrees and wedding cake flavors. At this even we also were able to see many different layouts of decerations including table and seat covers, candle and floral arrangements as well as meet with florists, dj's and photographers. We met every few weeks until the week of our wedding in which we met twice to ensure we delivered all the decorations and ensured all other planning arrangements have been finalized. Since we chose a Sunday morning wedding they allowed us to stay the night before which was a concern in terms of room availability. This was not an issue and noise wasn't too bad. I can go on with more comments. The wedding planner was very nice and worked hard to ensure we had place for the rehearsal dinner. The wait staff for both the rehearsal dinner and during the cocktail hour and reception made everyone feel at home. The food was phenom as we had the vegetable lasagne - unique with asiago cheese, the orchard chicken with sausage stuffing and the Boston baked scrod. The wedding cake was also very moist and very tasty. We did three layers all with different flavors and fillings. This may all sound too good to be true. But we did this on a budget and they accommodated us for the budget we had without issue. They always responded as happy to help and we couldn't have been more pleased. Our total cost of service was just over $5K as we had a Winter Bliss package that had a few discounts in it for the off season wedding. Pricing included the rehearsal dinner and a few rooms for our friends and family. My only recommendation is ask questions and be patient while they work with you to build a package that you will be pleased with on your special day. Reviewed on 01-05-2013
