Puma Hills Reviews

My husband and I decided to have our wedding at Puma Hills and I’m struggling to find all the words to describe how absolutely WONDERFUL our weekend was and how grateful we are for everyone at Puma Hills. Puma Hills was the first and only wedding venue we went to look at! We absolutely fell in love the first time we stepped foot on the property and thought “we either need to get married here with everyone or we need to elope cause we can’t get married anywhere else” we decided to have a wedding with our families and loved ones at Puma Hills and looking back we wouldn’t change a thing! Bison Peak Lodge was the most wonderful place to have our special weekend- like I said, it’s hard to even put it all into words with how wonderful it was! Cristina, Myrna and Lily were so accommodating for any and all of our ideas/wishes for how our day would go and they truly made everything happen in the most beautiful way! It was even more beautiful than we could have hoped for! We know our day was as magical as it was because of the utter beauty of Puma Hills, the surrounding area and the beyond incredible staff that was so accommodating and kind. We had 124 people at our wedding and about 110 people stay on site- many of which were from the east coast and had never been camping! The staff went above and BEYOND for every single one of our guests to make them feel welcomed and comfortable. There was so much for our guests to do on site and nearby (hiking, ATVs, horse back riding, kayaking/canoeing, bon fires) that everyone was able to find something to do that made them happy and it was so special having everyone together for a whole weekend and not just a few hours for a ceremony and reception! The accommodations are all wonderful and most importantly comfortable!! Tipis, tents, cabins and the lodge rooms are all different but equally amazing and comfortable. Our guests were a little worried about the shared bathrooms with everyone getting ready for the wedding but there were plenty for everyone to use and get ready the whole weekend and they were also very nice and clean! The food was also great!! We really enjoyed every meal that we had the entire weekend and they were so accommodating with each individual dietary restriction which with 110 people was quite a bit! So many of our guests could not stop talking about how much they enjoyed the weekend! The ceremony itself was held at the most beautiful look out and the cocktail hour/reception was under the most beautiful sail cloth tent. The decorations that puma hills have compliment the beauty of Mother Nature so well and are simple, elegant and stunning and the ceremony/reception looked so beautiful even with the minimal additional decorating that I did! And best of all it is all on site and so close so people were able to walk back to their tipis and get their dancing shoes and be back on the dance floor in no time! It was such a unique and special experience for us and our guests! And it was so special having everyone together, away from cell phone service and the chaos of daily life, and just spend time together celebrating in the beautiful Rockies. If you’re looking to have a wedding weekend with your guests all in one area- Puma Hills is absolutely your place! We are so looking forward to returning for our anniversary- if not sooner! We absolutely love Puma Hills :) Reviewed on 29-08-2023
Kayla Haugen(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 18-06-2022 This property is truly one of a kind!! A beautiful place to host all our out of town guests. We really felt like this was the best bang for our buck. We all stayed on property from Fri-Sun and had the entire time to celebrate, not just a 10 hour event block like most venues. The staff was SO kind. Can’t say enough good things about them. I’d recommend this venue to any CO couple who is looking for a true outdoor experience! Reviewed on 06-11-2022
Tricia Muehlbauer(other)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 31-07-2021 My daughter got engaged last May and we planned a wedding in 2 mos (July 31) at Puma Hills. Everywhere we tried (she wanted mountains) was busy due to the post Covid craziness. When we found Puma Hills available, we quickly took a tour and fell in love with the vision and possibility and booked the date, w/out even hashing through details. Thankfully, I am a photographer (and have done a lot of weddings in my past) so I had a pretty good grasp on the details of the day. I can 100% say the staff was great to work with! Indeed we had bumps in the 2 mos process because everything had been shut down due to Covid for a long while. But, the staff was super accommodating and helped us pull off a beautiful, memorable event. A couple notes..when you are planning a wedding here it is important to know you are in the mountains...there are no stores, restaurants, etc. nearby; wifi is sketchy; bathrooms and running water are available, but just not as convenient as a regular hotel, etc. Your guests need to know they are glamping....teepees are lovely but could leak a little bit in terrential storms (which we had!). The bathrooms below the main lodge are absolutely fine and great to use if for any reason the others are out of order. It is an experience! If you are planning to get married here, it can be lovely! The views are amazing. And we are well out of the Covid 'junk' now so plan it with their staff and understand what all is/isn't included and you won't be disappointed! Think through all the details of what you want and work with them to make them happen. We had 180 guests...a large party! We were able to hire an outside caterer (not sure if that is still allowed or not) for the reception. The other meals were prepared by them and they were timely and just fine. Truly, the staff bent over backwards to help us (all of them) and we celebrated like mad in a crazy mountain rain storm. Though we were disappointed to have to move the ceremony from outside to under the tent, we made it happen (they made it happen) and it was spectacular and VERY memorable! When getting married in the mountains, outside, you have to be flexible and understanding and just make the most of it if it does not go according to plan. Our bride/groom and families did just that. Thank you, Puma Hills, for helping us pull off a wedding planned in 2 mos. They are on to a lifetime of sacred marriage! We appreciate you! Reviewed on 25-04-2022
Caroline Gustin(bride)1 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 05-08-2021 I do not recommend using this venue. We hosted our wedding here on August 5th, 6th, and 7th, 2021. The views and scenery of this place are breathtaking! The reception tent and ceremony space are set up nicely. But sadly, that is the only thing I can currently recommend them for. During initial talks with the venue, we received timely returns to our phone calls and were able to set up a tour quickly and easily. But after our contract was signed, communication became almost non-existent. When the time came for our big day, the staff failed to carry out some important aspects of our event that we trusted them to follow through with. They originally told us we could use the kitchen in the lodge (that we paid for) to cook rehearsal dinner. Then, about three weeks before the wedding we were told that this wasn't an option anymore, and we were forced to purchase catering from the Puma Hills staff. That alone was pretty frustrating, but to make it worse, we didn't even get to see a menu or pricing until TUESDAY when the wedding was on FRIDAY! It was also in our contract that we could hire an outside bartender, but Puma Hills back out on that as well, saying we had to use their bartender instead -- again, this all happened only 3 weeks before the wedding. Our contract had been signed for 9 months before that.During our tour and at every step along the way, we mentioned to the venue Manager Cristina that our elderly grandparents would need help getting to the ceremony space from their lodging. We were assured this was perfectly fine and nothing to worry about. Upon arrival, we were happy to see that a large party bus was available to shuttle guests and wedding party members to and fro. However, this ended up being one of the most disappointing parts of our time there. Guests needing rides were never able to find the driver, and when someone was finally able to hitch a ride, there was no air conditioning in the bus and the windows did not open. Putting communication and the forgotten elements of the wedding day aside, Puma Hills still has room to grow on the lodging side of things as well. One of our groomsmen was injured when an unsecured staircase leading to the outdoor restroom gave way underneath him. The only response from staff was an offer of a Band-Aid (which he never actually got) and an “out of order” sign was put on that bathroom trailer. This left us with a total of two working bathrooms for 100 people, since 3 were already marked “out of order” upon our arrival on rehearsal day. This was definitely a problem during the reception. People were standing in line for the restroom literally covering their noses with their suit jackets and fancy dresses because of the smell. It was really disheartening to see that as the bride. If you love the views and glamping aspects of this venue, and want to go ahead with booking your wedding here, my only advice is to make sure you get everything in writing, down to the small details. This will probably be an uphill battle due to the lacking communication from the staff, but you will need emails as backup if they change policies suddenly on you. In our experience, most decisions discussed over phone calls were ignored or forgotten. If something is important to you, you'll want it in writing for sure. There are many more things I could say about the execution of our wedding here, but this is getting really long! Simply put, I just cannot recommend this venue in its current state. Reviewed on 04-09-2021
Samantha Strecker(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 15-08-2021 We had our wedding Aug. 15, 2020 at Puma Hills, smack dam in the middle of the pandemic and you’d think it would have been stressful, difficult, etc, but the staff at Puma Hills helped make our day one of THE BEST! We rented the lodge for getting ready, perfect amount of space for our 8 person bridal party and our large family to get ready and hang out before the ceremony. Just a few hundred yards up the valley was our ceremony/reception site. Puma Hills pulled out the stops, we had an event tent for our 100 guests, spacious, open, they installed this amazing steps that lead up to the tent and lined them with different colorful flowers. They provided a shuttle bus for the lodge/parking to the ceremony site for our guests. Some of our guests stayed the night in their glamping teepees. And the photos!! Our photographer got some AMAZING shots. We were so happy with how everything turned out! A special thank you to Christina, she did everything in her power to make our wedding amazing and it was, again, THE BEST day! Reviewed on 18-01-2021
