I want to start out by saying this venue is beautiful, and our wedding was absolutely gorgeous. In addition to the venue being gorgeous, Sarah did an amazing job with us in the months before the wedding and made us feel super confident. However when we arrived for our wedding the day before almost every single person in our block had an issue checking in, including me the bride! They had no idea we were coming, I had to tell the staff that my room was supposed to be comped as part of our package, even after she thought I still had to pay taxes and parking even though it was supposed to be included. Multiple people were calling me, including my mom and my mother in law, because again it just was not communicated we were coming I guess, and a perk of our block was discounted resort fees and park which again was not communicated to the front desk staff. They even put my mom (the mother of the BRIDE) into a dirty room that had the sheets on the floor which was embarrassing for me, and added to my pre wedding stress. In addition to this, I was told when we actually signed on with SDMBR that my bridal suite would be over looking the ceremony area so when the ceremony started I could just walk straight from my suite out to the ceremony. Again there was no communication and I ended up being on the second floor away from the ceremony venue, with my bridesmaids across on the bottom floor where they told me I would be. When I let the staff know no one even got back to me. They said they would try to get me a suite on the bottom floor, but literally thatâs all I heard they didnât even bother to tell me they couldnât do it. In addition to that (granted this is a much smaller deal) when we had stayed at the resort to meet with Sarah for the tasting she had champagne and a cute fruit platter waiting for us in our room. For the wedding: nothing in a room that I wasnât supposed to be in. Like I said this is a small thing, but it was our wedding! We just wanted to feel special, and like we were being taken care of and this oversight combined with all the issues checking in just made us feel like they had our final payment and now we were kind of thrown to the waste side. Again I want to stress that our wedding was gorgeous, and we had the best day! But when you are paying the amount of money we paid I think the basic understanding is that the front desk staff will know youâre coming, they put you in the suite they specifically told you you were going to be in, and they do the bare minimum to make you feel special on your special day. Overall the pictures and everything came out so beautiful, and my husband and I will always have a special place in our hearts for SDMBR, and I would get married there again if I had to do it all over. BUT I think they can do a lot better with their overall customer service and they should rely less on the fact that the venue is so gorgeous and spend some time taking care of the people having their wedding with them. Writing a review since it seems like there aren't many recent reviews for this venue. Overall, our wedding was beautiful and we had a blast. We began the planning process over a year ago and instantly loved the SDMBR because of the tropical feel and separate reception spaces. Communication initially started out rocky as the coordinator was transitioning to a new role. However, once Sarah was assigned to our wedding, everything was much smoother. Sarah was responsive and helpful through out our process. The highlights of our wedding were definitely the venue space itself, the view of the Seaworld fireworks in the evening, and overall the food was good. Unfortunately, the biggest disappointment with our wedding was the banquet staff working the event. It seemed like their training was not very comprehensive, and there were many errors made. For example, we paid for an extra bartender, but they didn't get along and took turns serving throughout the evening (For most of the evening we only had one bartender even though we paid for two). We also informed our coordinator that it would only be adults at the wedding, and guests 21+ but the bartenders were still carding some of the guests. The catering staff made numerous errors with serving meals to guests despite having place cards on the table. We had very few guests with dietary restrictions but they gave a salad with a crouton to a guest with celiac. Another guest had a dairy restriction, and since much of the food is cooked in/with butter, her meal was incomplete and lacking --instead of giving her alternatives they simply took away the items that did not fit her restriction. One guest began cutting into her meal, and a staff member stopped her and took away her plate. Finally, we held our after party at the Plaza del Sol area, and paid extra to keep the bar open at that area. The staff allowed other hotel guests to utilize that area and did not prevent any other guests (not affiliated with our wedding) from charging their own drinks to our wedding tab. Considering the prices we paid for this wedding, we did expect better and more professional service overall. We still had a great time, but wish the staff would have provided an overall better guest experience. Reviewed on 25-08-2023

Raquel Estrada(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 26-02-2022 AHHHMAZING! We cannot rate this place high enough, we had our wedding weekend here and we had a great experience! We are SD locals and my husband worked in the SD hotel industry for many years, so he knew some of the prime properties to check-out during our venue research. This property is not only beautiful but it is centrally located in SD to the airport and many tourist spots/restaurants for our out of town guests. We went to several hotels along the water in the mission bay/pacific beach area but decided this was the spot after we viewed the property and met with Donna. After we continued to plan our wedding, we were not disappointed! In addition to the great location, beautiful ceremony site, gorgeous rooms, and delicious food - this place has a great staff! Everyone was beyond helpful and accommodating to all of our guests. We had multiple guests comment on how friendly the staff was throughout the entire weekend. Donna helped coordinate our entire wedding, she is very knowledgeable with wedding events and made sure we had a stress free weekend. Tevin from reservations stayed on top of all our guests rooms and group block, he helped make sure all of our guests had no issues with their bookings! Chris & Jeff from the bellman staff were on top of it and lugged around all our junk with smiles on their faces. Andrew and Ron were troopers and made sure they kept the booze flowing and kept our guests happy as long as they possibly could! This place is an absolute gem, don't make the mistake and go with another hotel - this is your spot! Thank you SDMB Resort! Raquel & Kevin Reviewed on 04-03-2022

With the food being outstanding we also booked our rehearsal dinner at their restaurant having dishes like scallops and miso glazed tofu over soba noodles. Our guests couldn't stop talking about how good the food was.All parts of our wedding at San Diego Mission Bay were outdoors: ceremony, cocktail hour and reception. Kristen Berendzen(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 11-05-2019 We simply cannot speak highly enough of Bobby Fader and his team at Hilton San Diego in hosting our fusion Indian American wedding this past May 2019. From the very first moment we met with Bobby, to the weekend of our wedding and after, Bobby was consistently one of the most professional, considerate, and supportive people we worked with in planning our wedding. In working with many vendors, we learned Bobby is well known and highly respected in the wedding planning world in San Diego, and he completely lived up to these expectations. Bobbyâs catchphrase is âI hate the word ânoâ,â as in, he will always try to accommodate your requests to help you get the wedding you want, and we found this proved to be absolutely true in working with him. We could share countless examples, but it might be easier to just say that he was able to satisfy even the most demanding of Indian family members in getting every detail just right. Bobby was probably the single most reliable person we worked with in our wedding planningâhis communication was excellent, he was always quick to follow up on our questions and requests, and by the time of our wedding weekend we really felt like every detail had been covered. And throughout the stressful process of planning our wedding, Bobby did such a great job of being a calming and supportive presence: he was never fazed by even the most frantic of anxious calls or last-minute changes, and he often reminded us that at the end of the day, our wedding was going to be special and fun because of who was there, and he helped us not to sweat the small stuff (which came into place perfectly anyway with his help). In summary we would unequivocally recommend working with Bobby Fader for your wedding or any other event. You will not be disappointed! In terms of the Hilton San Diego itself as a venue, we were beyond happy with how beautiful our outdoor ceremony space and indoor reception space turned out, and the large beachside hotel/resort was perfect for accommodating our guests visiting San Diego from all over the country. The site is very near to many major attractions and to the Trolley station, which many of our guests took advantage of. As a couple, we felt very taken care of⊠the day before our wedding we realized we had some very noisy neighbors and the staff at Hilton immediately responded and quickly moved us to an even better room overlooking our ceremony site. It was perfect! Almost all of the guest rooms have been recently remodeled as of 2019, and the hotel staff was exceedingly professional in helping us ensure our wedding party had a great experience. We would gladly choose the Hilton San Diego again for our wedding venue. Reviewed on 29-09-2019
Darsh Purohit(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 24-08-2019 I am writing this review focusing on the catering manager Bobby Fader. We had our wedding on August 24 th at the resort. My husband and I decided to plan this beautiful destination wedding living in East Coast. We called around multiple venues in San Diego. When I spoke to Bobby, I immediately knew he was the guy. He was very familiar with South Asian weddings. He has a friendly and warm demeanor. He was very responsive to us for the many months we invested in planning this wedding. We had a two day wedding weekend at the resort. Overall, beautiful location and he made sure everything ran very smoothly. My only complaint would be ( which has nothing to do with Bobby) that one night a security guard threatened to kick my guest out because we were making too much ânoiseâ. Bizarre considering that none of us were drunk or playing loud music. Just a big wedding party group having a good time. An apology from Hilton would have been nice. Although, Bobby was apologetic on their behalf. Given that incident, I decided to give this a rating of 4 stars. Except for this incident, the wedding was a success and people had a good time. The icing on the top was the fireworks from Sea world on our wedding Day which made it so much more special. Reviewed on 23-09-2019

Erica T(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 10-11-2018 We choose the Hilton San Diego Resort and Spa/ Hilton Mission Bay for our wedding last November and we are so happy we did! We looked at about half a dozen venues in person before deciding to book with this Hilton. We set up an appointment to see the property with Bobby about 10 months before our wedding date. The property was so beautiful and Bobby was so kind and helpful we booked with them the same week. The price per person was very reasonable. It included quite a lot, including a plated dinner, a wedding cake, water, etc. A one hour cocktail hour with complementary bar was included in the price; it was especially nice because the cocktail hour was at this bar/ lounge area near the pool area called Frescos. We chose the have our ceremony at the gazebo, which the staff repainted a couple days before the wedding to make sure it was beautiful for our wedding day. Bobby was very helpful in the months leading up the wedding. Picking out the linens and seating arrangements was so easy. My husband and I also were able to have a tasting at the hotel before choosing our menu. We ended up choosing the beef with duck confit ravioli and roasted chicken, which all our guests loved. Bobby and the Hilton were also very accommodating with special food request. We had quite a few vegans; Bobby provided us a few options for them. They also served them dairy-free sherbet during the reception, which was a really nice surprise. It was really thoughtful of the staff to do that. We chose to have a hosted bar up to a certain dollar amount which was a good choice. Whatever you donât spend, you get back. The drink menu is really customizable; we were able to include beer, wine, and a signature cocktail in our hosted-bar menu. We had a lot of guests from out of town. We were able to make a very reason hotel room block for our guests. The staff were really helpful to everyone with their bookings and throughout their stay. The entire staff did such a great job making us, our families, and our guests feel welcome at their property. It's such a lovely hotel and we're so happy we chose it as our venue for our big day. We had our ceremony at a different location in a church, but the Bayside Terrace was a perfect location for our reception. I wanted to either be outdoors or have a view of water for our reception. Although there is no direct view of the water from this venue, the water is right there, and I loved feeling the fresh breeze from the bay. Bayside Terrace was also such a beautiful venue to be in, and it shows in photos, as it is surrounded by palm trees, with a beautiful rock water feature right behind where our sweetheart table was.We had about 140 guests and the space felt perfectly sized. We were originally expecting closer to 200 people, which would still have felt comfortable, as there was still plenty of space on the sides, but the reception layout still felt nice and almost intimate. We also loved that the Hilton had some outdoor games available for us to use, so that guests were able to play games like corn hole and ping pong right along the side, if they wanted to take a break from dancing. This was especially useful for entertaining the young kids that were there. We donât live in San Diego, we are located in Los Angeles, so we did have to manage the planning from afar, but Maribel Beltran was great about making sure everything was covered. We, including our family and friends, also booked hotel rooms at the Hilton for wedding weekend and additional days leading up to the wedding.Maribel made sure we were comfortable the entire length of time we were there, and we truly appreciate all she did for us, along with everyone else at the Hilton who contributed to our big day! This summer when I had my own wedding there, it exceeded all expectations. The staff is incredibly attentive and went above and beyond to make sure our day was perfect. They must do a million weddings, but made ours feel like it was the event of the year. We felt so special the whole week we were there. I had a few very specific requests and everyone bent over backwards to make sure they were met. Bobby Fader, the catering manager, is fantastic and incredibly organized. The food was SPECTACULAR- not at all your typical wedding food. It was the absolute best day of our lives and truly a dream come true.Tips for the ceremony: For the best view of the bay, go with the âgarden by the bayâ for your ceremony instead of having it right on the sand. Youâll see palm trees and have an exceptional view of the water.Tips for the reception: use the bayside terrace! It seems odd being right near rooms and the main pool, but I PROMISE when it is all lit up with string lights it feels like a magical tropical garden. And the staff makes it super private so you arenât bothered by hotel guests. Also- have your DJ light up the fountain! It makes an incredible backdrop for pictures. Well worth the extra 100 bucks. Christin Read(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 30-08-2017 Our wedding at the Hilton Resort and Spa was a dream come true! We had an intimate reception with only 27 guests and it was absolutely amazing. The resort itself is beautiful, we had a great time staying there a few days prior and after our wedding day and our guests enjoyed staying there, too! A huge thank you goes to Maribel Beltran, the catering manager, who treated us so warmly from the very first minute. Even though we were such a small wedding party she went above and beyond, giving us the most amazing feeling. She helped us with every little detail, she had so many recommendations for decorations, flowers (Mary Bowerman was simply GREAT!), etc., she helped us with special food and service requests, she offered solutions and great advice concerning the locations (there are several beautiful locations for a reception on the property)... and on top of all, this was a destination wedding from us, so we were planning the wedding from Germany with a 9 hour time difference, and still, communication with Maribel was always super easy and fast! She replied promptly to any questions we had and threw in suggestions and things to keep in mind.I really can't sum up all the things she did to make our day as special as it was. I wouldn't change a single thing and I highly recommend the Hilton Resort and Spa to those still looking for a great venue. It was nothing like the \"regular hotel wedding\ Reviewed on 23-10-2017

Christie Lawnick(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 03-06-2017 My now husband and I (who are San Diego residents and live in the coastal SD area) got married at the Hilton Mission Bay in June 2017. We originally were planning a destination wedding in October 2017 in Hawaii, but due to my Mom's cancer coming back we moved our wedding up to June and only had 3 weeks to plan the wedding before my Mom had to start chemotherapy again. We contacted several venues and instantly the Hilton Mission Bay got back to me. I was on the East Coast for the first week of planning the wedding with my Mom when I spoke with Laura Gipson, the Catering & Conference Services Coordinator, at the Hilton Mission Bay. I explained our situation of moving up our wedding, I was out of town for a week, and only having 3 weeks to plan the wedding. She and Jennifer Mitsven, the Catering Sales Manager, were so incredibly understanding and made such a stressful process easy. We found a date that worked and allowed us to have our ceremony and reception at the venues we wanted- (toes in the sand on Mission Bay Beach for the ceremony and the Bayside terrace for the reception). There was already a wedding scheduled for the date we chose, but they were able to move our cocktail hour to the garden, so our weddings never interfered with one another. My Mom needed a lot of accommodations due to her health issues, i.e. food and mobility, which Jennifer and Laura were so accommodating. Jennifer coordinated that my Mom had a special meal she was able to eat at the reception. It was also really important to enjoy and make the best of the wedding planning process given the circumstances and they made our food tasting so special and my Mother was able to share that with us. We had a large wedding party and our wedding was 76 people. Everyone had such a wonderful time and LOVED the resort and venues. Paige Charboneau, Group Reservations Coordinator at the Hilton Mission Bay, was great in helping all of our guests from out of town get their rooms on such short notice. Paige and Jennifer also made sure my Mom had a room that was great for her needs and my husband and I had an amazing room (which we used for my (the brideâs bridal party) to get ready and take pictures out in front of on the beach which turned out amazing). Jennifer Mitsven was so prompt in responding to all of our questions and requests. She also met with us several times at the venue to make changes to the layout. Jennifer worked seamlessly with our Wedding Day Coordinator to make sure our wedding went flawlessly. Jennifer Mitsven was so easy to work with, accommodating of my wishes, and I could not have asked for a better person to work with in planning our wedding! I cannot say enough great things about Jennifer, Laura, Paige and the entire Mission Bay Hilton staff! That was the best day of our lives and what was planned so quickly turned out perfectly and just as we imagined! You would have thought we planned our wedding for a year! Being San Diego residents and beach lovers, this venue is the most beautiful and perfect place for a beach wedding and outdoor reception. The other venues at the Hilton looked wonderful too and have a lot of other options if you don't want it all outdoors. Before we decided on a destination wedding originally looked at several venues on Mission Bay. The Hilton Mission Bay may be the farthest back on the bay, but it is the best location for a wedding! It has less public foot traffic and spectacular views! I am so glad we got married there! Reviewed on 25-07-2017

We choose this beach because we wanted to get married on the sand, but not be sand blasted by the wind as other locations we saw (including the big place on Coronado). They bay remains calm, we married on the sand in front of 100 guests with a cello providing the music. Maribel was our wonderful hotel / event coordinator. She was responsive to my questions and put up with duplicate emails when I needed an answer extra quick. Then... towards the big day... she pushed me with a few extra kind emails so I could stay on top of things still needed. Our reception was outside on the patio above the beach. We had a wonderful buffet, and added omelet chef and Bloody Mary bar (mimosas were included). Everything was done without a hitch, and their staff went above and beyond to make sure Ed and I felt well taken care of. My poor husband has mentioned not more than 100 times he wants to do it again so he can eat more of the great food which was a chief reason we picked the Hilton for hosting our reception.Thank you to everyone at the Hilton for helping my vision be 100% realized. In conclusion, Iâm lucky and blessed that I can't share a single con of our experience. Highly recommend. Reviewed on 02-06-2017

Our reception was held in the Terrazza ballroom, which was the perfect size. We loved having our bar on the patio to give our guests the option to cool off outside without really leaving the reception. The food was DELICIOUS! So many options to choose from and they were all great. Our guests greeted us with positive comments about the food throughout the wedding. The girls got nail, hair, and make-up services done by the on-site spa and could not have been happier. sara Stubbs(bride)2 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 25-07-2015 \rI held my reception at the San Diego Hilton spa and resort in July 2015. We used the outside spaces, Frescos and the South Pool Patio. Both locations are beautiful and have great views of the amazing Sea World fireworks in July. However, leading up the event getting information and communicating with the Hilton staff was difficult. In the end we needed to go down to the venue on the Monday before our Saturday wedding (5 days prior to the event) to request to get our dinner floor plan, our banquet event order (BEO), and to coordinate our final payment. I luckily had hired a day of coordinator (outside vendor) and would highly recommend that to anyone booking this venue. We had multiple issues the day of the event and my coordinator had to find the banquet caption to get any of those issues addressed; at one point my now husband left our wedding reception to find a manager. Just to give a few of the days miss-communications: confusion on when the bar was to open; what drinks were being hosted by the bride/groom; only having access to community bathrooms for beach-goers/pool guests/wedding guests causing them to be sandy, wet, and having no toilet paper; lack of signs letting guests know that an event is in session one hotel guest got drinks during our cocktail hour. Many of our guests have told us what a great time they had, only noting confusion at the bar and commented about the bathrooms. So our guests noticed little that was going on behind the curtain. The Hilton staff has communicated with us after the event to discuss the concerns we had, some of which are noted in this review. Reviewed on 12-09-2015

She was super on top of things, got back to me in a timely manner which was super important since I was living in Phoenix. She went on maternity leave 3 months before our wedding and Lara took over. Lara was not as easy to work with. I had to constantly email and call to get a response from her! In several cases I was told one thing, and then a few months later told something differentâŠnothing dramatic, just slightly annoying. I know she was busyâŠI get it, they have about 3 weddings a weekend there, but totally being ignored is not okay! However, the day of went perfectly!!!! Lara was amazing running around making sure everything went smoothly! We were running late (what bride isnât), the hotel does not have valet parking, but they left my parents and my photographer (she was late because she was with me ï ) park our cars in a 20 minute loading area for the entire night! My favors were a sâ more kit, but it happened to be 100 degrees that day in San Diego and Lara let us keep my favors in her office and brought them down after dinner when it cooled off. Apparently there were random guest that snuck in and she ushered them out without many people noticing. The head banquet guy took care of my husband and me the entire night! Knew exactly what drink we wanted and had it waiting. Following the ceremony, during cocktail hour, Lara brought our wedding party drinks down to the beach where we were taking pictures. We definitely felt like we were special! Finally, the food was AMAZING!!! All of my guests loved the food and commented on it! The Hilton made a special meal for us. We got married on the beach and wanted a luau themed reception. They added roasted pig to the menu for us! We were also having a smaller wedding, so they worked with us on price.
