The Shadowland was beyond perfect for our wedding. The location is literally right next to the beach which made a beach ceremony super convenient, especially with their free parking for guests. I will also say when you book with the Shadowland, you do not just get a venue, but you truly get a wedding team. They help you plan the floor layout, the timeline, the help with the decoration ideas. You book with them and you hire another helping hand with planning, day of coordination, and full catering service. Even down the the dinnerware and napkins provided, they are truly unique and wonderful. Not to mention their mock wedding event that allows you to try EVERYTHING. Incredible. It was truly, the best day and we are so grateful for the Shadowland and their team!!

Our wedding in July was absolutely BEAUTIFUL thanks to the help of Charlie Johan at Shadowland. Throughout our planning process, it seemed like our coordinator at the venue was a revolving door, and we were admittedly starting to get frustrated with the lack of communication in those turnovers. But once we got Charlie, he was the most helpful, kind, and patient coordinator! He was incredibly attentive throughout the remainder of our planning process and super helpful the day of! We were lucky enough to get in the day before to decorate, and Charlie was nothing but helpful even helping us set up some of our decor. The day of, there were some issues with our baker getting the cake delivered, and Charlie handled it to the point where none of our guests even noticed! We were honored to be the first wedding he managed on his own; Charlie will always have a special place in our hearts!

I grew up near Shadowland Pavilion and always thought it seemed too stuffy and snobby, and the last place I would ever want a wedding. When I was older (and engaged!), I knew Silver Beach was the dream location for our wedding. When I took a tour of Shadowland, I FELL IN LOVE with the ballroom. The colors were beautiful, and the lighting from the wall of windows made the room seem so airy. I absolutely loved everything about it, from the process of meeting with the wedding team to being a part of the mock wedding to sample different food options, and to the staff on the wedding day. Everything was well structured and transparent, and everyone we interacted with was super friendly. The only downside was that I felt the food wasn't as good as I'd hoped, but it was such a busy day that I don't remember much about it, and everything else more than made up for that fact. My mom loved the outdoor patio space. She even brought a chair in her car and set it up outside so she could enjoy the fresh air. We had so many compliments from guests about how this was the best wedding they'd ever been too!

Bekah Keeton was an amazing coordinator to work with. She was attentive, responsive, and hooked us up with so many additional things that go beyond the scope of what we were expecting for our wedding. My new wife and I would easily recommend this venue to anyone looking for an incredible and affordable wedding. We had our ceremony on Silver Beach at the Dunes Pavilion to save money, and then had our reception at Shadowland. So happy we went this way, but Bekah was happy to be available as a backup in the event of bad weather.

Shadowland did an amazing job making sure we had everything we needed for our special day. They gave us a reasonable price for all the help and support they gave the day of our wedding. On or wedding day Stephanie (our event coordinator) went above and beyond to make sure everything went off well. She even went as far as to move tables around before the reception and wrap up our remaining wedding cake for us at the end of the night. To this day I am still getting compliments on what a good job all the waitstaff did during the reception and even the cocktail hour.

My husband and I just had our wedding in June at this venue. Shadowland on Silver Beach met and exceeded all of our expectations for our special day. The staff was so amazing to work with, very responsive and accommodating! This venue is absolutely beautiful and spacious. The food and drinks were great and all of our guests had a fun time! With the beach so close we were also able to get beautiful pictures! If you are looking for a venue near or around southwest Michigan, I cannot recommend this venue enough!

My husband and I just had our wedding in June at this venue. Shadowland on Silver Beach met and exceeded all of our expectations for our special day. The staff was so amazing to work with, very responsive and accommodating! This venue is absolutely beautiful and spacious. The food and drinks were great and all of our guests had a fun time! With the beach so close we were also able to get beautiful pictures! If you are looking for a venue near or around southwest Michigan, I cannot recommend this venue enough!

Shadowland on Silver Beach is an incredible Lake Michigan wedding venue. Working with Nicole, Rysa, and the rest of the team was such a pleasure. From our first meeting with Nicole, we knew we were in good hands. Answering countless emails and many phone conversations, all with a caring and genuinely kind attitude. The team made sure we knew all the details needed before we finalized our contracts. We were also planning our wedding from out of state (IL) so the team made sure to send us lots of pictures when we couldn’t be there in person to see something. We started planning our dream wedding before COVID-19. Once the pandemic started, our wedding coordinator, Rysa, stayed in constant communication with us to give us updates on what would happen with our current contract and wedding date. It was not easy for us, as the Bride and Groom, and we respected that it was not easy for Rysa and her team as a wedding venue. As our day quickly approached, Rysa made sure to accommodate what we were comfortable with as a couple, which was so important. We originally planned a wedding with 150-160 guests, and that was drastically reduced to 35-40 guests. Shadowland allowed us to proceed with our wedding on our original wedding date. They worked with us to ensure a safe ceremony and reception, including providing hand sanitizer stations throughout the facility and cleaning the bathrooms frequently. The staff wore masks at all times and practiced social distancing when possible. There were so many changes in the months leading up to our wedding and Rysa was always very responsive in working on our timeline. The day of our wedding, we unfortunately had a family emergency occur a few hours before the ceremony time. While we were able to proceed with both the ceremony and reception, many last-minute changes were needed day-of and Rysa did everything she could to ensure everything was taken care of. We were able to host our ceremony and reception outside under a tent on the patio facing the Whirlpool Fountain. So many of our guests commented on how perfect the venue was, from the location, the cleanliness, and the friendliness of the staff. All of our guests loved our appetizers and drinks that were served (we did not have a full dinner service). Towards the end of the evening we were able to have our guests use sparklers & Rysa was prepared with a butane torch! It was crucial in helping us get everyone’s sparklers lit for some really incredible pictures & it was something we did not think of that Rysa had proactively prepared. I would highly recommend Shadowland on Silver Beach for future couples looking for a beautiful wedding venue near Lake Michigan. Nicole, Rysa, and their team will take care of you & ensure your day is perfect! St. Joseph, Michigan holds a special place in our hearts and we love that we can come back and visit anytime!

Growing up in St. Joseph I always knew I wanted to have my wedding at Shadowland. From the beginning, Rysa, our event coordinator was always there to guide us and answer our many questions. She is very experienced, organized, and communicates quickly. She was able to switch things around in a moments notice with all of the ever changing restrictions due to COVID. I always knew I was going to have my wedding at Shadowland but never imagined I would have it in the midst of a pandemic. They made sure our reception ran smoothly and was fun even with all of the restrictions in place. You also can't beat the location with the venue being a 5 minute walk to the beach and Lake Michigan. I would recommend this venue over and over!

My husband and I wanted a destination beach wedding, but wanted all of our family there as well. When we found St. Joseph, MI it was like a hidden gem to us & then when we found Shadowland we knew we found the perfect spot to start our forever. Shadowland was the perfect location, being just steps from the beach! Being on the beach, allowed us to sneak out during our reception to get some sunset pictures that turned out amazing!!From beginning to end, planning with Shadowland was made as stress free as possible by their staff! We worked with Rysa & she nailed our wedding day! Rysa, along with the rest of the staff, was very attentive to detail and wanted to do whatever they could to help! At our first sit down in the ballroom, we fell in love with the tall ceilings and big open space, along with those windows & patio out the back!! We were given a pamphlet that had a bunch of different pricing options from food to drinks and they even included vendors in the area that they had worked with before, which was amazing! We weren’t from the area so the fact they were so helpful in that aspect was really nice too! We ended up finding our photographer & other vendors off the list, so it made it super easy. Rysa and their staff was always very quick at responding and attending to our needs/concerns. Perhaps one of my favorite things Shadowland does is their Mock Wedding. It takes place earlier in the year (ours was around March) and it’s an event couples who have chosen Shadowland as their venue get to attend and see what a wedding can be like at the venue. Not only that, but you get to try all the chefs food which makes it easy to choose your meals when you get to taste all the different options! They also had vendors they frequently work come in and show off what they’re about. Vendors included a DJ, a chair and table cover company, the florist that had decorated for the event was there you could talk with, they had a photo booth vendor set up, they had a wine tasting bar so you could sample what wines you’d like..etc. It was just so very helpful, informative, & helped us explore our options! More importantly it got us even more excited for the big day! The day of our wedding we had help from the Shadowland staff getting final things into place and Rysa was there to let us know she was taking care of us and to just go have fun! Towards the end of our reception, she even coordinated ordering pizza from Silver Beach Pizza, which was the perfect way to end an open bar night! Haha. Also, don’t know how I could almost forget they have a carousel!! This was something we didn’t know we wanted, but ended up being so fun and special! We got some really good wedding party pictures on the carousel and it was great for our guests during the cocktail hour! We had so many guests come up to us saying how cool it was!We are so very grateful we chose Shadowland on Silver Beach and we made memories there that will last a lifetime!! 100% recommend them and would do our wedding day all over again with them!!

Shadowland was an absolute dream wedding venue! My husband and I had both our ceremony and our reception at Shadowland. The staff was second to none. Absolutely amazing and attentive. Jasmine was our event manager and she was the absolute best! She was so easy to work with and to get in touch with. She did everything in her power to make sure we had everything we wanted (like Oberon at the end of the season). The food was also absolutely amazing. We had such a hard time narrowing down to 3 options for meal choices. My family and friends could not stop raving about how amazing Jasmine and the entire Shadowland staff was after our reception. Also, make sure to do a private rental of the carousel! It was such a hit with our guests and provided amazing photo/video ops!

Jasmine was our event manager and she was the absolute best! She was so easy to work with and to get in touch with. She did everything in her power to make sure we had everything we wanted (like Oberon at the end of the season). The food was also absolutely amazing. We had such a hard time narrowing down to 3 options for meal choices. My family and friends could not stop raving about how amazing Jasmine and the entire Shadowland staff was after our reception. Also, make sure to do a private rental of the carousel! It was such a hit with our guests and provided amazing photo/video ops!

They did run out of miller light and blue moon during our reception and that's what me and my husband were drinking, so other then that it was a great experience. They don't bring out new kegs.

We just recently had our wedding reception at the Shadowland on Silver Beach and it was fantastic! The entire experience from start to finish was a great one. The original meeting with Nicole was very informational and we were provided with documents that answered all of our questions and gave vendor suggestions, which was very helpful. The mock wedding event that they hold is such a great idea and something many of our friends who are wedding planning were jealous of. We found multiple vendors at the mock wedding and were also able to meet other couples and share ideas. Our coordinator was Jasmine and she was amazing! Her energetic attitude is contagious and she made sure that every step of the way was smooth and exciting! She was very responsive and made sure everything was exactly how we wanted it. The venue itself is beautiful and having the ballroom and the patio is a great mix for a wedding reception. The carousel is an added bonus that we would definitely recommend, our guests loved it. Jasmine and everyone at the Shadowland helped make sure our wedding day was one that we will never forget!

It really stinks that there was so much turnover that stressed us both out as I would love to give Shadowlands 5 stars, but, the initial months after booking were not so smooth, so I need to acknowledge that. After we got Jasmine, though, everything was great. She was timely with communication and always kind to answer our questions to make sure we had everything we needed figured out well in advance of the big day. Then on the day of our wedding, she worked really well with all of our vendors to make sure everything was flawless. She checked in on us to make sure we had everything we needed and brought us waters if she saw us tied up. She was very thoughtful and added so much to our day. The food was delicious and we got numerous compliments that it didnt seem like food that had been prepped/plated for a while before serving, which is always great! We got so many compliments on our bar and bartenders, too. They poured the drinks strong enough for everyone to compliment, but not too strong as to get people too intoxicated, which is often a hard balance to find. The uplighting was beautiful and really set the mood for dancing, linens were great, and all the staff kind and attentive. As far as price, I think theyre competitive for the market they are in, but, didnt blow me away with bang for my buck.We did get to add on several of their upgrades like the uplighting and satellite bar, but wish those could have been a little better priced with how much we paid for the venue rental. We loved that they allow in outside vendors for your desserts, so we brought in a local ice cream shop (Fire N Ice creamery) to host a sundae bar for our guests and that was the most loved thing by everyone, so I would highly suggest it! Overall, if you are looking for a venue that can offer you a comprehensive package without the hassle of finding your own food, booze, etc... they're great and I definitely recommend them!

First of all, the ceremony and reception space were amazing. The venue provided a unique experience for our guests. We had the lakefront close by, the ballroom, and even got to rent the carousel. Jasmine helped us plan the wedding and she helped me nail down the details and dealt with my slightly delayed responses while I was in my clinical year of veterinary school. Jim was a great help on the day of set-up, getting my party anything and everything we needed to set up the ballroom to our specifications. Even though we hosted a smaller event for only about 50 people, the staff never made us feel any lesser. They gave us their full attention and service. The only concern I had through the evening was that the waiting staff was almost too good - the drinks and food got swept off the tables before people were quite ready a few times. Other than that, everything was completely perfect. I would recommend Shadowland to anyone looking for a unique and wonderful venue on their special day.

I cannot say enough positive things about having our wedding reception at the Shadowland Ballroom. For starters, the staff is FANTASTIC. Nicole and Jasmine made the entire planning process so easy and fun. I didn’t have a wedding planner or coordinator, so it was helpful to lean on Jasmine for questions or advice. She was organized, responsive, so sweet, and helpful. Even with my crazy type-A personality I was able to relax on my wedding day knowing Jasmine had everything covered. We had 150 people and the ballroom was a great size for that. We used the patio for cocktail hour, and that was a hit. We had a second bar on the patio for cocktail hour as well. The food was great; we got a lot of compliments and it was so easy to have catering through Shadowland. The ballroom was beautiful. The only thing I didn’t love was the chairs at Shadowland, so I went with gold chiavari chairs from www.chiavarichairswedding.com and they were fantastic and really made the room look great.I recommend using their preferred vendor list. It was so nice to have vendors who were familiar with the staff and layout. We used Ben Pancoast photography and photo booth and Music Unlimited for our DJ. They were terrific. We rented the carousel for 1 hour and it was a HIT. Our wedding was 21+ and the adults loved it. We definitely needed the full hour for the 150 guests to get our photos done first. We also loved the Mock Wedding shadowland throws for their confirmed couples. It was a great way to meet vendors and see the space in action. THANK YOU Jasmine and Nicole for making sure my husband and I had a perfect wedding day. It really was the best.

The ballroom was so beautiful and the carousel added a unique and fun touch to our wedding! Our planner at Shadowland was Jasmine, and she made everything incredibly easy, smooth, and as stress free as possible. We were able to attend the Mock Wedding in March of 2018 where we sampled all the food and drink options as well as had the opportunity to ride on the carousel. We sat down with our planner and configured how we wanted the ballroom to look for our reception as well as what drink and meal options we wanted. Everything went perfectly and our wedding reception was everything we had hoped for and more!

Shadowland Ballroom was the first venue I saw; I was nervous, I had no idea what I was doing or what questions to ask, hadn't thought about my full wedding vision or anything. The team there made me feel so comfortable and welcome! They put all my worries at ease and when they said the magic phrase \"we'll take care of everything, you won't have to worry about a thing\" I was sold. I did not really go over the top with the extras, we did a buffet style dinner with passed apps (the cheaper and I think classier option) and we got sooooo many compliments on the food. My husband and I loved everything we ate! My guests were saying it was the best food they ever had at any wedding (and personally, I agree). We did an open bar with beer and wine but upgraded to his and her's cocktails for everyone to try and I think that was totally worth it. The uplighting was a nice touch too, but we didn't have to go overboard to get a good vibe going in the room. There were a couple bumps along the way, though. The person originally assigned to our wedding got a promotion (good for her!) so we got a new rep to take care of us and help us plan, but the transition was absolutely seamless it literally didn't affect us at all. The baker that was originally contracted with them split off into her own full-time business (again, so awesome for her!) but she was still able to bake us exactly what we wanted so this was another seamless transition. I would HIGHLY suggest you go to the mock wedding they throw. We got to try literally all the food they offer and then pick our favorites, which totally paid off later. You also get a sneak peek at what your wedding would feel like from a guest perspective. My only complaint is about how the carousel is handled. They seem to be managed by a different company, so I'm not holding Shadowland responsible, but omg. The carousel. At the mock wedding, you will get a hard sell about how everyone loves it. They even let you go on it. It's great, and if you have the budget for it and really want it for your special day, by all means, pay the $700 for the ONE HOUR of carousel rental. Personally, I was not having a circus or fair themed wedding, I didn't see the draw in it, and I especially did not want to spend the budget on it (I'd rather use that money towards five nights in a Paris hotel, which is exactly what we are doing). Since we declined the offer for the carousel, I had to sign and return a COMPLETELY NEW CONTRACT saying we did not want to use it and promising not to (even though it would be closed when we were in the building). This is really not the end of the world, but for an out of state bride with a million other little things to wrap up the weeks before our wedding, signing and delivering a contract for a service we never wanted just to state we didn't want it was not really my favorite thing to waste my time on. All that business aside, I still loved Shadowland, and would absolutely recommend them to anyone who asks. All those awards they have are well earned.

They seem to be managed by a different company, so I'm not holding Shadowland responsible, but omg. The carousel. At the mock wedding, you will get a hard sell about how everyone loves it. They even let you go on it. It's great, and if you have the budget for it and really want it for your special day, by all means, pay the $700 for the ONE HOUR of carousel rental. Personally, I was not having a circus or fair themed wedding, I didn't see the draw in it, and I especially did not want to spend the budget on it (I'd rather use that money towards five nights in a Paris hotel, which is exactly what we are doing). Since we declined the offer for the carousel, I had to sign and return a COMPLETELY NEW CONTRACT saying we did not want to use it and promising not to (even though it would be closed when we were in the building). This is really not the end of the world, but for an out of state bride with a million other little things to wrap up the weeks before our wedding, signing and delivering a contract for a service we never wanted just to state we didn't want it was not really my favorite thing to waste my time on. All that business aside, I still loved Shadowland, and would absolutely recommend them to anyone who asks. All those awards they have are well earned.

From the moment we saw Shadowland we were set on it being our venue. It is a beautiful location, we the best amenities it has to offer. The prices for the services you are getting are unbeatable! Let me break it down!Nicole and Jane:THEY ARE AMAZING! We live in Wisconsin, so we planned most of the wedding from afar. I communicated mostly with Jane and she literally is the best! You had a question or problem, Jane offered amazing solutions. She is quick to respond and did not make me feel like any of my questions or concerns were silly. The day before the wedding I was emailing her at 12am and she responded right away! That is dedication and makes a bride feel so special. The day of the wedding it rained and we moved it inside. She let my bridal party take over her office before the ceremony, so we could \"hide\". It just shows you what kind of person she is! I can rave and rave about Jane making my day go just perfect!Food:Was amazing! My guests raved about the food. We did the root beer short rib and Chicken with gravy. We asked the chef to serve a vegetarian item that was no longer on the menu, he did. It was hit or miss with our guests, but it makes sense why they took it off the menu. Every guest had enough to eat. Kids: they do not charge for kids under 5 which is so nice of them to do. ALSO!! The plated option is less expensive then the buffet! Which is very rare for venues! Each plate was about $22-25 per person. Kids meals were less expensive. Drinks:We decided to go with the medium level option for $22 a person for 5 hours. (5:45pm-10:45pm) Which was the perfect amount of time. Pours were generous and the signature drinks we chose were a hit and delicious. Carousel: If you can budget it, it is a must!! It really added to the experience and my guests said that because of that, it is a wedding they'll never forget. Other: They provided a free option to display my photos from a flash drive on their kaleidoscope! It was super cool and a lot of my best sat there looking at all our photos. Staff: SO POLITE AND POSITIVE ATTITUDES!! I asked to switch out someones meal for a different one, and they took care of it right away with no question. Everyone was super friendly and very attentive, always checking to make sure we were good and if we needed anything. It was honestly the perfect evening. Food and drinks were awesome. The white peach sangria is one of the best drinks I’ve tried!! We live almost 3 hours away in the metro Detroit area, and Jane made it very simple for us to communicate through email, along with a couple phone calls. I would do it all over again, stress and all 🙂

The ballroom is gorgeous, and looked even more beautiful as the sun set, it doesn't need a lot of extra decorations. The patio was a big draw of our guests, as was the proximity to Lake Michigan. My husband and I took golden hour photos on the beach, and guests also enjoyed walking down to the beach throughout the evening.The food was excellent. The thing that raised our experience to such a high level, was working with Nicole and others; she, especially, relieved so much stress in such a busy planning time, and was always so accessible, organized and friendly. This stood out from the beginning of our search, in comparison to other venues that were difficult to get answers from to simple questions. The wedding guests make the day, but having such a pretty and classy venue definitely added a special element. Thank you for everything!

I could not say enough good things about Shadowland! We chose this venue for our wedding this past June and everything went spectacularly! This venue is super accommodating, extremely organized, and takes care of things so that you don't have to worry about anything on your day! Also, if you're worried about wedding food, look no further!! The food we had was actually incredible!! The food was also done by a reataurant that is the ballrooms “go to” catering service and the food was soooo yummy. We had many guests tell us that it was the most fun wedding they had ever attended and that it was the best food they have ever had at a wedding. As much as I would love to take credit for all the fun they had... the wedding would not have been as awesome if it wasn’t for the staff that helped put it all together. I would recommend the Shadowland Ballroom to ANYONE looking to host any type of wedding or party.

My husband and I just got married here in September of this year. The venue itself is nice while also not been too formal which was the vibe we were going for. The ballroom itself has tons of natural light (a big selling point for me) and is very spacious. The doors that look onto the patio are beautiful and provide a good ambiance. The outside of the building does not have the best curb appeal when it is light outside (I think the Carousel kind of diminishes the look). However, when it is all lit up at night it is gorgeous from the outside! Amy was the coordinator helping us with all of the wedding details at the venue. She was very helpful and responsive to my zillion and one questions. Luckily we were able to get into the venue to decorate the day before our wedding as there were no events scheduled for that evening. We did run into a small issue at that point. I had asked Amy prior to our wedding how to hang chinese lanterns from the ceiling in the sunset room and was told they had magnetic devices to hang these with. Great! However, upon arrival to the venue the day before our wedding it turned out they only had 13 of those magnetic devices.... I probably should have specified the number of lanterns I had but figured it would be inferred that we would hang more than 13 since the room is not small. After we discovered that issue, Amy was not terribly helpful in fixing the issue which I would have really appreciated. Instead my family members went to the hardware store and figured out how to make more of those devices ourselves (which we ended up leaving with the venue). Other than that small issue, everything ran smoothly the day of and night of our wedding, largely in part due to our Wedding DJ, Drew Behringer, who was awesome and kept the night flowing. He is very familiar with this venue and I highly recommend him to anyone getting married at Shadowland if you want a worry free and fun night!

The PERFECT venue for the perfect wedding! There was no doubt in our mind after meeting with Nicole and Amy that this was going to be our venue for the big day. We could not be happier with our decision! Our wedding planner, Amy, was a pro at making everything go off without a hitch the day of the wedding. They did a great job with the layout for both the wedding and the reception and everything looked beautiful. They were also very responsive and quick to reply when we had any questions or concerns! All in all, we were very pleased with our decision to have both our wedding and reception at the Shadowland Ballroom (and to have rented the carousel in between)!

Our wedding reception at the Shadowland Ballroom was a dream! Nicole and Amy were absolutely amazing. From the beginning stages of planning until the end, I, my husband, and both our moms wrote and called a million times with questions. Nicole and Amy always responded immediately. A month after our wedding, guests are still complimenting us on the appetizers and main courses catered by Shadowland. We had our cake made and delivered by Bit of Swiss Bakery. It was also delicious. And we used an outside vendor for our chairs because I very badly wanted chiavari chairs. We spent a lot of time on the details of our reception. Together, everything looked great and the evening flowed extremely well. We have nothing but beautiful memories of our experience at Shadowland and will cherish them forever ♡

Shadowland on Silver Beach was an amazing and beautiful place to hold our wedding reception. The food was amazing, many of our guests commented that the meal was the best they've ever had at a wedding. We also rented the carousel which was a unique and fun way to treat guests. The wedding party had fun on it as well and I can't wait to get our pictures back capturing these moments. While I loved the venue and our wedding was beautiful, I felt the staff at Shadowland was less than helpful. While they did answer my questions before the date promptly, there were other things I was not too happy with. One of the reasons we had originally booked this venue was because a lot of the vendors worked with them and could be coordinated through Shadowland. Then, a few months out, we find out the chair cover business no longer works with Shadowland. This was disappointing because we were planning on using our credit towards chair covers. That made it so we could only use the credit towards a slideshow, uplighting, the boardwalk rental, or champagne toast (all things that were way more expensive than the original credit as well as unwanted by us). Things got stressful when I had to let the coordinator know the ages of guests attending (for drink purposes). Had I known she needed these exact numbers I would have done it while getting addresses and names together. It was not something I wanted to handle two weeks before our big day. I had to ask the wedding coordinator several times during the event to get things ready for the cake cutting, time was wasted while she chatted with the bartender. I was, however, impressed with how she wrapped things up at the end of the night, and she did do things like lower the lights throughout the night. Shadowland is a beautiful and perfect place to hold a wedding reception. However, you (the bride/groom) need to be extremely organized (as you would with any wedding I suppose).

My husband and I had our wedding at Shadowland this past July. We had the absolute best day! The ballroom is stunning with great natural light and unique setting that made for a very memorable day. Being so close to Lake Michigan allowed for some great sunset pictures with my husband. We rented the Silver Beach Carousel for our cocktail hour and it was such a fun element to our wedding. We started our wedding process almost two whole years before our big day and Amy and the Shadowland team has been so helpful the entire time. Throughout all of the planning Amy has been super responsive to any and all of my needs. She made the planning process so much easier and helped to transform the ballroom into exactly what I had imaged it to be. I was living in Chicago while planning my wedding and was able to easily come in for the day if needed or plan from afar. Shadowland hosts an amazing night for the food tasting where all of the couples for that wedding season come together and meet each other. That way you can swap venders or ideas with each other while tasting the food and getting to see the ballroom dressed up like it would be at a wedding. The food was great. Many guests came up and complimented the Chicken Marsala and Cedar Plank Salmon. I would recommend Shadowland to anyone!

The space is beautiful and is pretty much a blank slate to make your wedding unique from other people who have gotten married here. Shadowland staff made planning a wedding easy! The food was amazing, Amy Parnell, the wedding manager, was helpful, quick to respond, and fun to work with. The space is beautiful and is pretty much a blank slate to make your wedding unique from other people who have gotten married here. Shadowland was a dream come true! All of the staff was so helpful and genuine! My wedding day couldn't have been ANY BETTER honestly! Perfect venue and great location. My husband and I look back and say we would not change one thing, maybe just do it over again because it was that great/fun!! When I first moved to the area, I explored what it had to offer. When dreaming up my wedding, figuring I couldn't do something out of the ordinary, I fell in love with Shadowland. It just seemed so clean and it was in the heart of the best views St. Joseph has to offer with the lake and sunsets. I knew that's where I wanted it to be. I had my wedding on a Monday recently. The ceremony was on Silver Beach with great weather. Shadowland was great to my guests considering this is a heavy tourist area and closed down the parking lot before the ceremony to the public for my guests so they could walk to the ceremony site and not have to be concerned about fighting for parking. Throughout the planning, Amy was extremely attentive to my needs and wishes and worked with me on whatever ideas I had. She communicated with me even past normal hours since my schedule for work has been wonky and have been working plenty of overtime hours. On the day of, I was able to get into the ballroom in the morning to begin decorating. Their maintenance man/janitor, Jim was super nice and helpful (even though there wasn't much he could do for us since we had it covered ;)). The reception began at 5:30 and that is when appetizers were being passed. They were to be passed throughout the cocktail hour but I was told by a guest later on that they \"ran out\" before the cocktail hour was up. After the complaint, more appetizers came out. Beyond that though, the food was on par. Everything tasted great and was even better than what I had at their Mock Wedding. They allowed us to set up our own cornhole game outside on the patio which was a great addition to the wedding. We also ended up changing a decision about our bar the day before the wedding and Amy was extremely flexible about it and was able to grant us the change. You just can't be the location and the views.

Since we booked Shadowland we had moved from Iowa to Texas to California and back to Texas all within a year, so we relied on the staff to help us with as much as they could while planning and moving. Shadowland ReviewOur wedding day at Shadowland was simply perfect! Nicole, the executive director, and Amy, the wedding event manager, are wonderful to work with – a very pleasant experience! They are friendly, accommodating, and quick to respond to questions. They offered many customizable options and made sure everything was how we wanted it to be. The space is special in that it has a wall of windows and a vaulted ceiling, both of which elevate the look of everything. We held our wedding ceremony at Shadowland with the aisle setup facing the Sunset Room, and it was gorgeous! The room was quickly switched over during our Cocktail Hour (rented the Silver Beach Carousel- super fun!) and transformed for our reception. Dinner was delicious- many guests told my groom and I how much they enjoyed the food! Desserts done by The Bistro (affiliated with Shadowland) were also a big hit. Our entire day went off without a hitch, and the long planning process was made all the easier by Amy’s friendly and professional demeanor as she communicated with me and my mom through email and phone. Also, Shadowland’s “Mock Wedding” event for couples who’ve booked is not to be missed! It was an awesome evening of trying all the entrees, seeing the space set up for a reception, riding the Silver Beach Carousel, and meeting other couples going through the planning process. All in all this is a great place; I’m so glad we found it because it was much more “us” than other places we’d looked at. We highly recommend Shadowland!

Shadowland made my wedding absolutely perfect! My dream wedding was to be near a beach and to see the sunset. My new husband and I were able to take pictures outside Shadowland with the sunset in the background it was beautiful. The guests loved being able to go outside to chat, but then back inside to dance. The ballroom was set up perfectly and was extremely organized. They help you every step of the way and are super accommodating. I had guests cancel last minute and they were able to take them off our guest count with no problems. The waiters and bartenders do an amazing job keeping guests happy and YOU happy. Amy our coordinator was always willing to help and was super fast e-mailing me back with any questions I had. Many guests were pleased with the food and the location. My wedding was perfect and I would suggest this location to anyone!

My husband and I just had our wedding on May 21st, we could not have asked for a better wedding venue experience than the service that Shadowland provided! Amy, who we worked with, was very professional and friendly during the whole planning process, she was extremely flexible in meeting with us on weekends (we don’t live locally), and she was very responsive to all our e-mails and questions timely. The food from Shadowland was very delicious, all our guests enjoyed and made biggest compliments on the food. We are very happy with their awesome service/excellent work and really appreciate it!

The Shadowland was an absolute dream venue for our wedding reception! The setting right on Lake Michigan was perfect and allowed us to have a beach-like feel without being outdoors. The Carousel was so unique and way more fun than I would have even imagined. We received so many compliments from our guests about the evening. What I was most grateful for and impressed by is how the staff truly went out of their way to help make the evening as special as it could possibly be. I heard from other brides that their venues were making it very hard on them to have the night they envisioned, while the Shadowland staff was going above and beyond to answer my question and accommodate my requests. I wouldn't trade my experience with Shadowland for anything and highly, highly recommend it!

The day after I got engaged, I headed straight for Shadowland Ballroom to book my venue, because there was no question as to where I wanted to spend my big day.December 10th 2016 was our date. Although in the back of my mind I was slightly scared of a winter wedding in Michigan, Shadowland directors and employees easily put my concern to rest and made my day absolutely flawless.Venue:I had both my ceremony and reception in the ballroom, and the staff was almost too good at flipping the entire room over to the reception once the ceremony was over; it took them a mere 15 minutes.Our 135 guests & DJ fit with ease, and we had plenty of space left to have corn hole in the Sunset Room (a windowed area inside the Ballroom). I had a mix of kings tables and rounds, which sat 8-12 people per table. I really loved that option, because I was able to sit bigger families/groups of friends together.Since we had the ceremony in the Ballroom, & the staff needed to move pre-set tables and chairs for our reception, we took the opportunity to rent the Boardwalk all night (the large hallway outside of the ballroom) with a satellite bar, and the carousel for a half hour. Having the carousel was a complete hit, every single one of my guests had a smile on their face. The carousel is handicap-friendly, so even grandma in her wheelchair could ride that night.I personally found the temperature of the building & the level of music satisfying.Food:If I had a dollar for every compliment I've gotten on our wedding meal, I could have our wedding all over again. The amount of gluten-free options will surprise you, & their veggie options are just as scrumptious as you would hope. We decided on the bacon wrapped pork tenderloin with garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus for our meat plate, and it did not disappoint.The in-house chef is most talented, diligently serving our well-presented plated meals at desired temperature, making you feel like your plate was his only place of focus. Although they do not allow catering, I had a \"special\" plate, which was a pizza for one of my guests with autism. It was absolutely no problem for them to present his pizza to him as they presented the rest of my guest's meals.Staff:The ease at which this place is ran is astonishing. The six years & hundreds of brides worth of experience executive director Nicole Beltz has from running Shadowland shows immediately in the first meeting. She is incredibly knowledgable, & has the exact calming presence a bride or groom-to-be needs.Amy Parnell, wedding event manager, was at my side every step of the way. Any question I came up with, rather it was every-so-often or 3 emails in one day, she promptly catered to my every need. Amy was always an email or phone call away & she personally oversaw the entire evening, assuring it would be as perfect as it could possibly be.The bartenders were quick and social, and were never caught without a smile, and the wait staff was just as speedy & kind. It truly did feel like the most well-oiled wedding I've ever experienced.Jim Pruiett, building manager, conducted the room change between ceremony & reception hastily & flawlessly. Anything we needed from the Ballroom, such as an easel for my seating chart or a last minute table, Jim responded immediately & always delivered better than what I had asked for.If I could relive my special day 100x's I would, & every time it would be at Shadowland Ballroom; I could not have asked for anything better.

The location was PERFECT. The weather was GREAT! The food was FANTASTIC! And Mandy! Ohhh Mandy... She was SPECTACULAR with her vision of our cupcakes/cake! :) And then there's Amy.... My oh my what a wonderful Wedding Manager, coordinator, nerve calmer--all of the above! She was with us 100% of the way and answered ANYTHING and did EVERYTHING to make our day perfect. The staff was superb and hats off to the Chef(s) as well. The food was out of this world and we couldn't have asked for a more perfect day.If you are interested in booking here, just do it. Everything was great. EVERYONE was great... and We are forever grateful for making this experience a day that we will NEVER forget! Best. Day. Ever!!!!!!!!

The shadowland was great! Everyone we worked with was very helpful and always accessible by phone and email. I never had to chase anyone down. The best part was they provide you with a list of local vendors. Being from out of state this was incredibly helpful! It saved me the trouble of having to search for our florist, photographer, etc...They coordinated with all of our vendors and saved me the headache. We opted to rent out the carousel for our guests during cocktail hour. Best decision ever! Everyone loved it and a month later people are still talking about the carousel..... the adults loved it more than the kids! St. Joseph is a beautiful town and Shadowland is right in the middle of everything. Guests were able to walk to the ceremony location and there were plenty of hotels nearby. Plus there are tons of great locations for photos.

The shadowland was great! Everyone we worked with was very helpful and always accessible by phone and email. I never had to chase anyone down. The best part was they provide you with a list of local vendors. Being from out of state this was incredibly helpful! It saved me the trouble of having to search for our florist, photographer, etc...They coordinated with all of our vendors and saved me the headache. We opted to rent out the carousel for our guests during cocktail hour. Best decision ever! Everyone loved it and a month later people are still talking about the carousel..... the adults loved it more than the kids! St. Joseph is a beautiful town and Shadowland is right in the middle of everything. Guests were able to walk to the ceremony location and there were plenty of hotels nearby. Chris and I loved Shadowland Ballroom and all the staff there! St. Joseph, MI was our first thought when it came to choosing a venue since most of my extended family lives in Michigan and Chris's family is in Illinois (so are we). Shadowland was the first and only venue we visited and we were excited immediately! They had our date open which was most important (we got married on our 10th year anniversary) and they were super affordable versus the Chicagoland area. Since I work in the wedding industry I knew cost was going to be a huge factor but Shadowland was an amazing venue for a great price. All the staff we worked with including Nicole, Amy, and Mandy were so helpful and made all of our decisions easy. They were extremely flexible which was a must for us being an out-of-state couple. They day of the wedding went smoothly and couldn't have been more perfect! We had chose to have our ceremony at a pavilion on the beach and the weather was perfect for our September wedding. The Ballroom looked amazing and all of our guests loved the space! We got so many complements! Chris and I could not have asked for a more perfect wedding and location. We greatly appreciate all the help from everyone at Shadowland Ballroom and would highly recommend them to anyone!

When it was time for us to choose our venue, my fiancé and I knew we wanted a place that ideally was near Lake Michigan, would hold a larger number of guests, and have the benefit of being temperature controlled. Shadowland was the perfect spot. Our guests loved the ability to walk to the beach for sunset, sip a cocktail on the patio, and ride the carousel. Nicole, Amy, and Cheyenne were all a dream to work with. They operate like oh well-oiled machine, were incredibly accommodating, and always available to field our questions. On the day of the wedding, Amy was present to receive our vendors, coordinate with our DJ, photographer, and videographer to ensure that the timeline ran smoothly. Amy was very professional and worked with us with our seating plan, food, and beverage packages. We were able to accommodate all dietary restrictions and food preferences without any trouble. We heard from our guests that the food was great and they had so much fun! Amy also handled placing and picking up our late-night pizza order from Silver Beach pizza --which was quite a hit from our guests. I would recommend this venue wholeheartedly to the bride that plans ahead. For very obvious reasons, this venue tends to book up quickly!

While I don't believe we were their first same sex wedding, I believe we were the first gay couple (guys). The team at Shadowlands made our day amazing from start to finish. From the first day we met with them to Amy wishing us a happy honeymoon at the end of the event, Shadowlands was excellent. Key to their success is the mock wedding they do once a year. This really helped to finalize plans and really understand what our event could be like. The food was simply amazing. Our guests raved and raved at how good the food was (we did a combo plate of the bacon wrapped tenderloin and whiskey bbq salmon) Also with the carousel rental next door and the proximity to Silver Beach, this was the perfect venue. We could not have asked for a better place to have held our wedding reception. We wanted a beach wedding but did not trust to brave the Michigan ever changing weather and this was the next best thing! We were close enough to the beach that we were able to get amazing pictures and our guests were able to enjoy it as well! The staff was beyond amazing and everything ran smoothly. We had many comments from guests and vendors of how organized everything was. The food did not disappoint. If we had to choose all over again, we would quickly choose Shadowland Ballrooms.

Anyone that is getting married in the St. Joseph area has to check out Shadowland. Deciding to have our wedding reception there was the best decision we made! Cheyenne, Amy, and Nicole are all incredibly professional, flexible and are quick to respond to emails (I always got a response within a couple hours of sending an email, even if the response was that she was out of the office but will respond back to me as soon as she can get to the office. When you are a bride, good communication is everything!) The carousel staff and set-up crew were amazing too. We are from out-of-state, so we had limited options of when we could meet with them, and they worked around our schedule. We had some special requests with the food and they did exactly what we asked and were so positive about it and the food was delicious! They even made one gluten-free/vegetarian plate for one guest without an extra charge. They are also very honest. Near the wedding date when we were quoting prices, I had over judged how many chair linens I would need and they showed me my mistake and saved me money! Every person in my family that worked with their staff an amazing things to say about how professional and helpful they were. The reception was the least stressful part of my entire wedding because Shadowland was so on top of their game! Big thanks to Nicole and her entire team :)

My husband & I had our reception at the Shadowland Ballroom and it was nothing less than a dream come true! All of the guests we talked with had an amazing time dancing, riding the carousel, and thought the food was the best wedding food they ever had. We even had a buffet! The only reason I am giving it a 4/5 stars is because they don't have reserved parking for wedding guests. Since we got married during the beginning of August, that is a very fun, but busy time for St.Joseph, MI. We just had our reception here in early June and our wedding was amazing! The Shadowland is in such a great location in a beautiful town and all of our guests found a new vacation spot! This place books fast though so make sure if you are interested, you get on it right away. Nicole does a great job of walking you through the venue and going over all of what Shadowland offers in your initial meeting. From there, Cheyenne/Amy were awesome in communicating with us every step of the way to make sure the wedding was everything we wanted. We felt like we were in great hands every step of the way. The only reason I'm giving this 4 stars is because of things included with the package. Options were limited for linen color combos and chairs, so we had to go to outside vendors to supply our linens and chairs for the wedding since our colors were not an option. Any add on things are an additional cost (up lighting, monogram)so just be wary of that. Overall the venue is amazing, the help is great, and everything turned out beautiful.

It's been nearly four weeks after my wedding reception at Shadowland and my guests are still telling everyone in both of our families how beautiful the reception was! My husband and I have zero regrets with our decision. It's always a win - win scenario; Shadowland is directly on the beach but still a fully indoor venue. Our food selection was exquisite with a mixed plate of beef filet and chicken Marsala with vegetables, it was all cooked perfectly and large portions. My guests were impressed with how hot everyone's food was because they served 200 people at our wedding and all plates were consistently prepared well. Amy Parnell and Nicole Beltz were extremely easy to work with, paid attention to detail, and were very open to customizing any needs. My Foreign relatives were also very impressed that they went above and beyond and spelled the cocktail drink correctly with accurate language dictation on the sign. Choosing Shadowland as your wedding reception venue is the easiest decision a bride has to make!

We live in the Chicagoland area, and this was just the destination wedding we were looking for - less than 3 hours away from everyone, even the Northwest burbs!! Amy worked with us to make sure that every detail was considered from multiple iterations of room layouts to ensuring that our sweets table was continuously stocked. She walked us through the time line for the evening and assisted in making sure that everyone was enjoying themselves. We rented the carousel, which was just as much fun for the kids as it was for the adults honestly! Great pictures! We had several meal options - bacon wrapped pork, chimichurri chicken, and vegetable lasagna - all of them had our guests raving!! It was nice to offer chicken tenders and fries for the kiddos too! They truly cater the evening to what you would like it to be from providing custom and delicious signature cocktails to adding your pictures on their kaliedoscope. There was luckily not an event the day before, so we were able to enter the room early and set up, which was perfect! Jim, who is responsible for setting up the furniture and general up-keep of the room, is very friendly and helpful. We would not have gotten all of our decor hung without him!! I highly recommend Shadowland to anyone who is looking for a fun and beachy atmosphere!

We cannot say enough great things about this venue. Everything was beautiful and amazing. The staff are fantastic! Amy Purnell was our coordinator and she executed everything beautifully. The food was so delicious, the drinks were phenomenal, and the carousel was the cherry on top of our wonderful wedding. Highly recommended!

People associate Silver Beach and Shadowland Ballroom with summer and the beach. We had a January wedding with the reception at Shadowland. Everyone at Shadowland was very helpful (Cheyenne even came in New Year's Day so we could set up the day before the wedding), and the food was very good. Because we had an \"off season\" wedding the rental price was less and that may have made it a little easier for folks to accommodate us and our wants. Our winter themed decorations looked like they belonged in the ballroom.

Cheyenne, Amy, Jim, Nicole, and everyone else at Shadowland were truly wonderful in helping bring my vision of my wedding into reality. \r\rWe chose to have both our ceremony and reception at Shadowland. From the start, Cheyenne was prompt in responding to my never ending questions; which started more than a year in advance! She was incredibly helpful in creating at timeline for the day that would ensure things ran smoothly. Not to mention accommodating all of the changes that came about with planning a wedding over the course of a year. Amy and Jim were invaluable on the day prior and day of in helping to solve last minute problems and changes. \r\rThe professionalism and friendliness of the entire staff was refreshing and so much appreciated on a day when any little thing can seem like the end of the world. In fact, the only small issue we had the day of was with seating due to some last minute changes to the guest list, and the resolved the problem so quickly and easily that I didn't even know about it until two days after the wedding! \r\rI would recommend Shadowland to everyone. The food was delicious, the alcohol selection spot-on, the venue itself is gorgeous, and the overall feeling from everyone at Shadowland included in our day was that they were just as invested and dedicated to making it special as we were. \r\rA huge thank you to all of them!\r\rWedding date: November 7, 2015

As a bride with a busy job and not a lot of time to spend planning a wedding, I was thrilled we went with Shadowland. They were responsive from the start with our inquiry and answered questions promptly throughout the planning process. During our meetings Cheyenne had choices set up so I was able to see what I was picking. They even got my favorite beer and found my dad’s favorite whiskey to add to our bar. I found the mock wedding tasting, that they host, extremely helpful (it’s such a fun night, you have to go!), we picked all of our food and wine that evening. St. Joseph is a popular place for a destination wedding, we found that not everyone gives the same customer experience when we were looking. I highly recommend using their preferred vendor list. We found our photographer that way and loved her! The space is beautiful, people didn’t wait at the bar long for a drink, parking is on site, and most of our guests were able to book hotels in walking distance. The best part was hearing people talk about the food weeks later, they LOVED it! When does that ever happen? We had such a great experience with Shadowland, and highly recommend them to anyone!

First, Cheyenne was more than helpful and made things so easy for us to plan our wedding. She returned our emails very promptly, was easy to set up appointments at SL, and always put us at ease, including my mother! Shadowland allows a lot of flexibility when it comes to decorating, but of course the team can provide lots of ideas if needed. The food was amazing and we loved the idea of the “Mock Wedding” so we could try a majority of the entrees offered. We had Cobia (who knew this fish was so tasty!), beef filet, chicken picatta, and vegetarian lasagna…would choose them all again! In addition, we could experience what a wedding is like at Shadowland by attending the Mock Wedding ahead of time, especially since we live in Philadelphia now and have never attended a wedding at SL before this. Another big hit and surprise of the night was renting out the carousel. Our guests are still talking about this, and how it’ll be pretty hard to top this cocktail hour off! In addition, the beautiful scenery of Silver Beach is great for pictures! We can’t say enough good things about Shadowland and am so glad we chose this location for our special day. Thank you!\r

Shadowland Ballroom was the perfect reception venue! The location was perfect, being able to walk outside and see the sunset and be so close to the beach was something many guest loved and still talk about. The space was perfect for our 250 guest and fit everyone comfortably! The style of the ballroom allows you to pick any theme that portrays you are your fiances style. The option to rent the carousel was PERFECT! all of our guest loved it and it allowed everyone of all different ages to come together and enjoy something fun. It was the perfect way to get the night started. The event coordinators were AMAZING and were a joy to work with. They truly made the planning process easy and smooth and i loved working with them! If you are looking for the perfect venue in the St Joe area, definitely look at Shadowland on Silver Beach!! You will fall in love with it!

The Shadowland Ballroom was an absolute perfect location for my wedding! We wanted to be near lake Michigan & a beachy area! Besides the gorgeous surroundings of the city of St. Joseph & Lake Michigan Shadowland has the most wonderful staff to work with & the price is not too bad either! I would recommend Shadowland to anyone having a wedding that lives near by or farther away. I live about 3.5 hours away - Nicole & Cheyenne were super helpful and made the planning process very easy!

Looking back on day one, there was never a time where I second guessed Shadowlands ability to create the vision we had for our wedding. Everyone was beyond accommodating and never once did we worry the day of if whether or not things would be to our standards…they were exceeded. The added bonus was Shadowland offered they services to set up the day of the wedding for a very reasonable price…which to us was priceless because it meant we didn't have to burden a family or friend to set up our decoration. While I am sure we would have family and friends help in a seconds notice, we wanted to make sure everyone was able to enjoy themselves the day of. From the food to the organization, everything was on point.

Planning our wedding from a few states away sure was trying until I came into contact with Shadowland Ballroom. Once I found Shadowland Ballroom I fell in love!! It was everything I had envisioned in our reception as we wanted a beach wedding on Lake Michigan so it was close to all of our family and friends. Silver beach has a special place in my heart as I have many memories there growing up and watching St. Joe grow in those many years. \rReaching out to Shadowland and talking with Nicole on what dates might possibly work on top of all the details & what our cost would be was a breeze, in the chaos of planning a wedding. Nicole was very patient and always full of information, on top of being very prompt! After lots of back and forth we finally booked our wedding date and continued with the planning, where I met Cheyenne & Amy. They held a mock wedding for couples and it was stellar!! We had such a sigh of relief after being able to see the facility in person(I had went once to see but the hubby hadn't), taste all the yummy food, meet everyone in person, learn of the history of the Ballroom plus St. Joseph, it was great!! \r\rI can't say enough about how easy it was working with the ladies at Shadowland! They answered all my questions and concerns and made things run so very smooth! The facility speaks for itself and is absolutely gorgeous!! The food was spectacular, our guests are still talking about how good it was! The location is perfect for those loving a beach wedding with the comfort of a nice spacious facility with air conditioning, clean bathrooms plus a nice outdoor space with a carousel to boot! The fountain across the street made it even more beautiful and instead of sunset pictures, we did pictures in the fountain!! \r\rIf I had to give a negative review on anything about the Ballroom, the only thing I could think of would be the cost, it is a little pricey if you \"compare\" it to the few other facilities around. \r\rAll in all, we are very pleased we picked Shadowland Ballroom for our special day, it was phenomenal!!

My husband and I were married on August 1st and our reception was held at the Shadowland Ballroom. We could not have picked a more perfect venue to celebrate our love for each other. Every detail is taken care of, Cheyenne is seriously your wedding planner for all things reception related. She was so patient through the entire planning process and never made me feel like I was bothering her or asking too many questions (and I asked a LOT of questions)\r\rWe planned our wedding from the Chicago suburbs and it honestly didn't feel that way as the staff were always accessible to answer any question we may have had or even throw a few ideas our way when we weren't too sure. They even told us when the sun would set so we could get that perfect picture! All of our out of guests are still raving about our beautiful wedding venue and how perfect the location was, especially out out of town guests! We could not be more pleased with the outcome!\r\rAlso the mock wedding is a must! You get to see everything in action, try all of the delicious food and even sample wine and signature drinks! The food SO GOOD! I might be bias but I have never experienced such delicious wedding food!! Our appetizers and main dishes were perfect!!!!! The signature drinks were a big hit as well!\r\rThe night of the big event I did not even really speak with Cheyenne as she was making the magic happen behind the scenes. First off, our guests ABSOULETLY LOVED St. Joseph, MI. It is beautiful and the beach is amazing. We had our ceremony at Dune's Pavilion. Everything was walking distance from the hotels, beach, ceremony and reception. The food here is amazingggg! The staff was great and Cheyenne is awesome at her job. She makes sure it is you perfect/dream night and it really was. We had several guests say it was the best wedding they ever went to. It was an amazing night (and weekend). I cannot THANK them enough. I wanted a beach wedding without the worry of weather and I wanted to feel like I was on vacation without having to book a flight. Shadowlands in St. Joe was perfect because it was only a 90 minute drive from Chicago (where we live and the majority of the guests). We had our ceremony on a beach nearby but if the weather got iffy, Shadowlands was ready to bring the ceremony inside- a HUGE relief for a bride, who is also the wedding planner, and needed the contingency plan. Thankfully, we had great weather but the peace of mind we had a back-up was great. \rFood and beverage package was excellent and our guests raved about the food. Shadowlands made it easy to accommodate my gluten free and veggie guests. The groom and I enjoyed the “mock wedding” Shadowlands hosts in the spring so we can try out all the foods, beverages and see the room all set up. We sat with couples who shared the same event month as us so it was fun to exchange stories about planning.\rOur cocktail hour was in the “boardwalk” which is the entrance/hallway outside of the ballroom. We had 130 guests and I liked how busy everything was. Keeping everyone in the smaller area makes people walk around and talk. We had 2 tables for gift and the guest book but didn’t do decorations outside of that- the space doesn’t need it.\rWe are beer nerds (the groom is a brewer in Chicago) and Shadowlands had a great offering of microbrews we could serve guests. The breweries in Michigan are top notch so we had an amazing curated collection that represented our shared passion for beer. The wine, sangria and craft cocktails we served were also a big hit. Our bar was loaded with options so we didn’t feel the need to offer full bar which helped with budget. Michigan does have weird laws so our bar closed at 11/11:30 but there is a bar across the street from the venue which many guests went to after. \rThe carousel made for a very memorable addition to our reception so it is a must to rent for the 30 minutes. Seeing everyone put goofy hats, masks, etc on to ride on the carousel was truly a sight to be seen.\rWe were able to get room blocks at hotels nearby so many guests were able to walk to reception. Some were pretty pricey ($300+ a night) so some a little further from the beach were more affordable for some guests. Several people even rented a beach house.\rDefinitely recommend Shadowlands Ballroom. Outside of how beautiful the actual space is, the team working there is wonderful and accommodating. Planning a wedding – especially one out of town, is stressful but working with this venue was one of the easy parts.\r

Shadowlands made it easy to accommodate my gluten free and veggie guests. The groom and I enjoyed the “mock wedding” Shadowlands hosts in the spring so we can try out all the foods, beverages and see the room all set up. We sat with couples who shared the same event month as us so it was fun to exchange stories about planning.\rOur cocktail hour was in the “boardwalk” which is the entrance/hallway outside of the ballroom. We had 130 guests and I liked how busy everything was. Keeping everyone in the smaller area makes people walk around and talk. We had 2 tables for gift and the guest book but didn’t do decorations outside of that- the space doesn’t need it.\rWe are beer nerds (the groom is a brewer in Chicago) and Shadowlands had a great offering of microbrews we could serve guests. The breweries in Michigan are top notch so we had an amazing curated collection that represented our shared passion for beer. The wine, sangria and craft cocktails we served were also a big hit. Our bar was loaded with options so we didn’t feel the need to offer full bar which helped with budget. Michigan does have weird laws so our bar closed at 11/11:30 but there is a bar across the street from the venue which many guests went to after. \rThe carousel made for a very memorable addition to our reception so it is a must to rent for the 30 minutes. Seeing everyone put goofy hats, masks, etc on to ride on the carousel was truly a sight to be seen.\rWe were able to get room blocks at hotels nearby so many guests were able to walk to reception. Some were pretty pricey ($300+ a night) so some a little further from the beach were more affordable for some guests. Several people even rented a beach house.\rDefinitely recommend Shadowlands Ballroom. Outside of how beautiful the actual space is, the team working there is wonderful and accommodating. Planning a wedding – especially one out of town, is stressful but working with this venue was one of the easy parts.\r

After moving back to her hometown, Alyssa wanted to continue helping make dreams come true. From this desire and the right opportunity, she became one of Shadowland's Event Managers and completely fell in love with helping plan weddings.
