The folks at Smolak Farms really did a great job making our wedding feel personal and special. We got married on May 19th, 2023, and our guests to this day still rave about our wedding and how fun the night was. The ceremony felt intimate in the secluded apple orchard. The cocktail hour in the woods and reception under the tent were amazing! We wanted a wedding where there was more to do other than just dancing, and Smolak delivered with their patio full of lawn games and fire pit. The fire pit at the end of the night was so cozy with everyone gathered around it wrapped in warm blankets. I highly recommend it for future couples looking for a rustic and beautiful venue with a friendly and experienced staff. Elaine and her team at Smolak Farms made our wedding a night we will never forget! Reviewed on 16-11-2023

The venue was beautiful, and we had a good time at our wedding. That said, the process of getting there was a nightmare. There was absolutely no organization or coordination. A few examples: 1) We were supposed to owe a 50% deposit in April. I followed up with the coordinator, Elaine, multiple times asking about the deposit and how she wanted to handle payment. The times I followed up, I either got no response or I got a \"I'll have to get back to you\" with no follow up. 2 days before the wedding I finally got a text asking if I wanted her to charge the full amount ($8200) to an old credit card she found on file 2) When we sat down our details meeting weeks before the wedding, Elaine's first question was \"so do you have any idea of when you might want to have your event?\" We talked through many details, but she didn't write down a single note. Not exactly confidence inspiring 3) The details kept changing. For example, we had originally wanted to have a dance floor brought in, as the floor in the tent is just cement pavers. We were originally told they had a vendor they could coordinate that with, and then just let us know the cost. When we got to the details meeting it was clear that no coordination had been done, and we'd have to figure it out ourselves. Elaine told us it'd be easiest if we had the dance floor delivered the day prior, and picked up the day after. I very specifically asked Elaine if that was okay, and she confirmed that they didn't have any other events going on that weekend. She said \"oh no, I find that it's just too chaotic to try to have multiple events in one weekend.\" The next day I get a text from Elaine informing me that they had events scheduled the day before AND after ours, so we would have to have the dance floor delivered and picked up on the same day. We ended up forgoing the dance floor.4) On the day of, things just didn't match up with what Elaine had told us during the planning process. For example, there was trash all over the ceremony site from the wedding the night prior that we had to cleanup. We were told that there would be a dedicated staff member in the parking lot directing guests where to go. This did not happen, and guests kept getting lost and walking by us trying to take pictures. We were told that when it was time to line up for the ceremony, the staff would escort us all to line up through the orchard using a golf cart. This did not happen. My maid of honor tried to ask Elaine where we were supposed to go so guests didn't see us before the ceremony, but got no helpful answers. Elaine had also promised that she would help direct our bridal party for walking down the aisle. She did not help with this at all, and just stood off to the side. She also said promised to stand at the back/side of the aisle to remind us to stop and kiss for a picture during the recessional, but did not do this either. The venue is stunning, but if you want to get married here I would highly recommend hiring your own coordinator to avoid the headaches. Just be careful with that, because halfway through the planning process Elaine texted me that they changed their policies and would ONLY be willing to communicate with the bride and groom directly. The hourly staff was lovely on the day of. Everyone was very friendly and pleasant, and our decor looked great. We ended up having a nice time, and our guests were complimentary. Everything ended up working out fine, it was just unnecessarily stressful getting there. Reviewed on 15-11-2023

We absolutely recommend Smolak Farms as a wedding venue! The planning process with Elaine was so easy and enjoyable. She always answered our questions with impressive promptness. We had the utmost faith in her to successfully coordinate our day and she certainly did, from the rehearsal to the day-of activities to the ceremony and reception. Elaine and her team did not miss a beat and set up our decor beautifully. We received endless compliments from our guests about how lovely the venue was. The ceremony area is stunning and has a large pergola. The reception tent is large and cozy due to all the sparkly lights. Everyone at the farm was so nice and genuinely happy to help us. My husband and I had our wedding at Smolak Farms on Sept 16th. The whole day was so dreamy, despite a hurricane coming through that morning. Elaine and the rest of the Smolak staff were very on top of setting up, despite the less than ideal weather coming through that morning. The Smolak team was very professional and communicated well with the other vendors and the two of us through the whole process. I'm very grateful that with Smolak Farms as a venue, you have a built in day of wedding coordinator which made the day so much easier on me and my husband. Absolutely gorgeous venue. The day couldn’t have turned out more beautiful. The ceremony in the orchard was stunning and the wholePlace smelled like fresh apples which was amazing! The new bridal suit is awesome and perfect for getting ready. The lit pine tree area was a magical touch. Chrissy Nayar(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 17-09-2022 We got married in Sept and the entire venue felt like it was straight out of a fairy tale. There were string lights all over the venue, beautiful flower decor for the ceremony, and the apple orchard is stunning in the fall. The amazing thing about this venue is that you can use a lot of their decor that they’ve collected over the years (we even left behind some decorations so future couples could benefit!) Ashley and her team made the entire day seamless - someone was taking us around the entire venue all day in a golf cart for pictures, transport, etc. I would 100% recommend this venue over and over again. Ashley made sure things ran smoothly, helped with last minute decorations/details, and my family was so impressed by how wonderful she was at helping orchestrate what can sometimes be chaotic on the night of. I really cannot thank them enough. Smolak’s recommended bartender Deb also went above and beyond with lovely decor, amazing signature drinks our guests still talk about, and being a fun presence. She was more than just your average wedding bartender. We had the perfect early fall day and my dream of a quaint, elegant, rustic outdoor apple orchard wedding was seamlessly executed. Jessica Learn(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 22-10-2021 What an amazing venue. From the moment we met Ashley (the venue coordinator) in January, we knew this was our venue. With snow still freshly on the ground, the temperature around 30 degrees and no real live visual of what our Fall wedding would eventually look like -- Ashley was still able to tap into our imaginations. She helped us visualize the budding orchards, the walk up for the guests, the walk for the bridal party and for us. She showed us pictures, she spaced out where the cocktail hour would be, the reception and all of the little details that would eventually come to fruition. In the months leading up to our wedding Ashley was always available to answer questions, go through tours with our florist and caterer AND she did it all with such genuine excitement and kindness. I cannot imagine being anywhere else for such a special day. Besides the absolute superstar that Ashley was, Smolak was just so incredibly beautiful. A huge chunk of our guests were from the West Coast and did not know what Fall actually was -- they got to see the foliage, feel the crisp yet warm air. Hilary Vaught(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 17-08-2019 Our August wedding at Smolak Farms turned out even better than I could have envisioned, thanks to a top-notch events team and stunning surroundings. Ashley, Elaine, and the rest of the Smolak events team are complete professionals. They host a ton of weddings and other events throughout the year and it shows in how organized and adaptable they are. They were completely on top of everything leading up to the wedding and they were there making sure everything went smoothly on the day itself, which made our lives so much easier in the midst of chaos that is planning an event like this. And beyond the competency of the events team, the farm itself is simply beautiful. There's the lovely apple orchard leading to the arch on the ceremony hill, which overlooks a beautiful pine grove where the reception tent is. There's the antique barn, backed by a flowing field of lavender. There are ducks strolling around, and deer you can pay a quarter to feed. It was easier than expected to decorate the space, because we were able to let the surroundings speak for themselves. Our guests had nothing but good things to say about how organized the event was and how nice the farm was.Overall, we are thrilled that we chose this venue and would recommend it to anyone who likes the idea of a fun, beautiful, outdoor wedding! We had to go off list for mist of our vendors, but Ashley worked with them to help them to understand the lay of the land. They were accommodating to all of our quirky requests. They run a tight ship, which makes everything run very smoothly, and as long as you understand that this is a working farm in a residential neighborhood, it’s a beautiful and amazing venue to have a New England fall wedding. Jillian Daly(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 12-08-2017 We were just married at Smolak in August 2017 and we could not have been any happier with the venue or with our wedding day. The property is absolutely beautiful (even on the dreary February day when we first visited) and we were sold as soon as we saw it. We had our ceremony at the gazebo in the orchard (I walked down the aisle through the rows of apple trees!), had cocktail hour in the barn (one of my favorite parts of the farm, it's a real, authentic barn with beautiful old wood and twinkle lights), and our ceremony under the tent in the pine grove. We used the bridal suite and the bonfire and served the Smolak apple cider donuts with dessert. Every bit of it was perfect. The only thing better than the location was the staff. Ashley was our wedding coordinator and she met with us 3 times throughout the six months of planning, assuring us that everything would go smoothly and helping us figure out what we needed. On the day of the rehearsal Ashley ran the show with such organization and grace and really made us feel sure the next day would be perfect. Also on the day of the rehearsal Ashley introduced us to Lisa, another member of the events staff and I went over all of the decorations/accessories/elements we had brought with both of them. The next day when we showed up everything looked perfect. Ashley, Lisa and their team had everything setup so nicely and they all were amazingly accommodating and helpful throughout the night. We had a few guests with mobility issues and the girls who were driving the golf carts to get them around were just lovely and made sure that no one had any trouble getting where they wanted to be. Our wedding day was the best day ever for many reasons, but Smolak and its staff were definitely the main reason it all went so well and we are forever grateful for all they did to give us the perfect day. Every staff member I interacted with before, during, and after went above and beyond to make our day special. They even took what could have been a bad situation and made it even better! On the days approaching our wedding there was a 100% chance of rain starting at exactly when our ceremony started. Ashley called and explained the options and I had total faith that even with the change, she would make it work. And to be honest, thank god for the rain! I think our wedding was even more beautiful because of it and I wouldn't change a thing. I was expecting to have to do a lot ourselves in terms of set up and take down, but they took care of so much! Kara Mellonakos(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 02-10-2015 My husband and I were so impressed with Smolak! The team, and particularly Ashley our event coordinator, were the perfect mix of responsive but chill. We didn’t feel too pressured to do anything, and they definitely let us have free creative reign over what the tent would look like for our ~200 person event. Ashley was realistic and honest about her recommendations (e.g. she was clear that she felt we would like the tent extension so guests would have extra space, yet didn’t make us go crazy with renting other extra items) and we never felt like she up sold us on anything. She was also great at coordinating with all of our other vendors. Again, they were very professional and always got right back to us, but definitely had a cool attitude that did not feel as stuffy as other venues. This whole approach perfectly complements the beautiful New England back drop Smolak offered our guests. Everyone keeps raving about the venue and the donuts!\r \rBesides continuing to comment on how laid back but professional (exactly what we wanted!) the group was, we would like to share one specific anecdote that may be helpful for brides/grooms who are trying to decide between Smolak and other venues. We were married on October 2nd, 2015, the day Hurricane Joaquin was hitting New England. Naturally, having a tented wedding with hurricane conditions predicted was starting to feel a bit overwhelming. Ashley’s team was just so unbelievable through all of this. Without us asking, they offered us the barn for our ceremony. It was perfect. Her staff and the owners of the farm were running around shuttling chairs, purchasing extra umbrellas, and making sure everything was going off without a hitch. We were so impressed with how invested they were in making the day special for us. The pictures came out great, and our guests continue to comment on how beautiful the barn was... and they don’t even know that wasn’t the original plan for our ceremony spot. Ashley, Harmony, and the rest of the Smolak team really made us feel special, even if we were content on being a low key wedding. We are looking forward to visiting again in the fall, and would certainly work with Smolak again in the future for other events. Reviewed on 16-04-2016
Ashley Goldthwait(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 01-01-2018 I have been coming to Smolak Farms since I was a kid and I may be biased, but I think they have the best apple cider donuts in the world. I reached out to the Farm Stand about using their donuts as favors for my wedding this past Fall and it was one of the best decisions I could have made. Mary Stewart is the Farm Stand manager and she is lovely and a breeze to work with. I live out of state so almost all of the planning was coordinated by email and phone. They have many favor options (donuts, donut holes, other farm stand goods) and they will package them for you for a small fee. I had a personalized sticker made and they were able to accommodate that on the packaging. They also have a local delivery option if you can't make it to the farm on the day of your wedding to pick them up. The favors turned out perfectly: the packaging was beautiful and elegant and the donuts were DELICIOUS as usual. I'm still getting messages from wedding guests about how great of an idea it was. And it was all very reasonably priced. If you're looking for fun, delicious wedding favors that you your guests will love, I highly recommend you consider Smolak. Reviewed on 27-10-2015

Jacqueline Barnett(bride)2 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 12-07-2014 This is a beautiful setting, but the service is terrible - I would not recommend this venue to anyone under the current management.\rThe Thursday before my Saturday wedding I received a call from the woman who runs the weddings at Smolak - she informed me that the alcohol vendor that she had required we work with would not be able to serve our wedding due to licensing issues. If you are from the area you may know that Smolak is having trouble maintaining their ability to do weddings at all because of neighbor complaints. This issue reared its ugly head days before my wedding - however, I would have understood if the woman at Smolak handled it appropriately. Instead, here's the story - as mentioned before, she called me two days before our event, which also happened to be the day I had dropped off the final payment with her. During the phone call she informed me that she had found out about the licensing issue right after I had left her office that day. This was a lie. I contacted some of my other vendors who confided in me that not only had she reached out to them days/weeks prior because of this issue - she had also called and asked them to lie to me about the fact that she had ever called them. \rThe morning of our wedding, when this woman was supposed to be setting up tables - she held a meeting with other potential clients - thankfully I had my entire family with me to make sure the tables were situated and set up correctly.\rShe also did a horrible job coordinating our introduction before the reception. She was M.I.A. and did not communicate where we needed to be.\rOh, and she left early (even though our wedding only went until 10pm).\rSo, if you do decide to go with Smolak, because it is beautiful and unique, just be prepared to do everything yourself. Also, be prepared to pay this woman a $600 service charge to lie to you. Reviewed on 08-08-2014

Getting married in the apple orchard was amazing and memorable to guests. The venue allows many different activities to take place during the wedding - bonfire, lawn games etc. This was especially helpful for those guests that just don't want to dance. The tent is massive and can accomodate 160 guest comfortably. When uplighting is done right its pure beauty! Guests found the theme of the wedding, ceremony and reception memorable and very unique. We had an amazing day!!\r\rThe one thing that I wish I had researched is that the venue requires the use of other vendors - catering and liquor. This means that everything has to be brought to the venue and you have to do a lot of guestimating about what will be needed and used. There are 4 caterers to choose from and Davids was my choice and I had an amazing experience with them. Xyomie was wonderful to work with and is very knowledgable about the venue and how to serve to weddings. There is only one liquor store provider and that was Andover liquors. Andrea was a pleasure to work with and made this aspect of wedding planning a breeze to do. \r\rSmolak Farms has a wedding coordinator named Ashley and she was great helping with the timeline of the day, coordinating the day and making sure brides have an amazing time at the wedding. I know visiting it without all the wedding decor can be deceiving so don't let that steer you away from this venue. The only thing that some guests were wary of were the bathrooms. This was mostly older family who found them to be a little dark. Parking can be tricky if there is an event going on, but if anyone needs a ride they do provide a golf cart to get people from one point to another. Overall I thought the setting was magical and definitely unique. Most of my guests say it was one of the best locations they had been to for a wedding and not another stuffy function hall.
