Overall, we are very satisfied with the service we received at Steele Hill for our outdoor tented wedding. We initially visited Steele Hill to inquire about the Carriage House, with Penny as our coordinator. By the time we left, we were hooked on the idea of an outdoor tented wedding and ended up going that route! Penny left shortly after that, but we were soon introduced to Meryl, who would stay our coordinator. Despite the fact that she was new to the position, Meryl made it clear that she was dedicated to making our wedding a success.Steele Hill had great vendor affiliations/recommendations. We loved working with Susan of Lakes Region Floral. Her arrangements were stunning, especially our outdoor arbor! Also, having the catering covered, as well as room blocks/ on-site lodging, made the wedding planning process more streamlined and less stressful, for sure.Once our big day was a month away, we were in touch with Meryl and Sheila more frequently. All the small details were ironed out, and Meryl was very helpful (and patient) when it came to finalizing our rehearsal dinner and adding on a not-so-small breakfast reservation at the Hilltop Restaurant! On our wedding weekend, Meryl and Sheila were easily accessible when we needed them, but at the same time, they stood back and let us enjoy our day! We loved the fact that our overnight guests were all in one place, and at the resort! The front desk was fantastic about distributing all our welcome bags, too.Staying at the South Vista bridal suite was super convenient; since we were located right next to the outdoor reception tent, it allowed for an easy transition to the ceremony, we could pop in and out of the room whenever we wanted, and it made clean-up a breeze. Our friends gathered at the fire pit by the check-in area both nights, with total privacy and no issues. So many of our friends and family members told us how impressed they were with Steele Hill as a wedding venue. The view with the arbor is breathtaking, the buffet was delicious, and the day was simply magical. If youâre looking for a weekend-long, affordable wedding experience in a gorgeous spot, with accommodations and catering covered, this is the place for you! Reviewed on 27-06-2023
Meryl and team are the best and really go out of their way to help with anything you need! The wedding went smooth with them and I only have great things to say! I would give them a 10/10! All my guests were raving about the views and all the activities on site (volleyball, pool, and golf!)The rest of my review reflects on the hotel accommodations itself:Accommodation wise:The only slight problem we encountered (not with Merylâs team) but rather the accommodations the resort itself has for the elderly.Unfortunately my husbandâs grandparents were placed very far away from the party and slept on a pull out couch because they could not climb onto the bed. They had a rough stay but I think that was figured out with hotel staff . Iâm not sure if they only have a certain number of rooms they can accommodate, but I hope in the future the resort can make all facilities elevator friendly and or make more rooms on the property more accommodating to the elderly. My now husband and I had our wedding here at Steele Hill in June of 2023. My number one priority was to have the most beautiful backdrop that captured everything I love about New Hampshire...the lakes and the mountains. My next priority was to have a place that could accommodate all of our guests that were flying in from all over the country. Steele Hill Resort delivered on both fronts!Meryl and Sheila were absolutely fabulous to work with! They made my dreams come true and I never stressed about a single thing. This venue caters exclusively with Contigiani's catering services, and while that might deter some people because they want to have a choice, I will say that they offer multiple tiered packages with an extensive menu of food to choose from. My guests raved about their food! I also found it to be a plus because Bonnie and her team know the venue in and out and the night flowed seamlessly. This resort will forever hold a very special place in my heart. It's absolutely stunning. Our pictures are gorgeous. I think even a winter wedding at this venue would be equally stunning. But more than that, the rooms were clean, the staff was friendly, and there were so many different things for our guests to do. Reviewed on 30-07-2023

When we first toured Steele Hill in 2021, we fell in love with the atmosphere and the view and knew immediately that was the place for our wedding. Fast forward 2 years, we finally enjoyed our wedding and it was absolutely perfect. The venue is gorgeous and ideal for an outdoor ceremony with views of lakes and mountains in the background. The coordinator Meryl was extremely helpful and friendly along the way of planning and helped to answer questions. She worked hard to ensure we were able to have our signature cocktail at our wedding (which was very important to us). Our biggest issue came with the rehearsal dinner. When we originally booked, we were told we would be able to have the rehearsal dinner on site for no charge other than the food. When we went to book the rehearsal dinner we found out there was another wedding booked so we were now unable to have our dinner in the main Hilltop room and needed to move it to the Carriage House. This was no big deal other than we now needed to pay a $250 fee to host a bartender for drinks for anything other than water. The night of the rehearsal dinner my guests all arrived to the Carriage House to find the doors locked; however, there were employees visibly outside drinking what appeared to be alcohol on the back deck, while all my guests were waiting. When we arrived for dinner, the pizza we had was cold, not well spread out, and the fried cheese ravioli that we originally had planned/ordered was replaced with jalapeño poppers. This was very upsetting to me because I was never notified of this change and this side replacement is not something we would have chosen. Multiple family members (including myself) have GI issues and would not eat the jalapeño poppers, especially the night before a wedding. The bartender we had was not very experienced and had difficulty understanding the basic drink to make (for example a margarita). Bottom line, I donât recommend having your rehearsal dinner here. We would have been better off ordering pizzas ourselves and enjoying the meal with our guests in the suite. Another thing to note, is that although this is a gorgeous venue and amazing place to get married, it felt like the owners of the property are not fond of having weddings on site. I felt like we were paying a lot of money to have our wedding there and the Steele Hill owners were not very accommodating for wedding needs (ie utilizing the Hilltop room/restaurant). With Steele Hill, you do also have to go with their contracted caterer. This might not be appealing to some but for us, it to took the guest work out of finding a caterer and the caterer that they are contracted with, Contigianiâs, is absolutely top notch. Although my husband wishes he could have had Ben & Jerryâs ice cream as the dessert option, Bonnie with Contigianiâs was extremely helpful in creating the next best thing and absolutely contributed to ensuring our day was flawless. Overall, we are so happy and pleased we chose Steele Hill to enjoy our special day. Our day was simply exquisite, and Steele Hill contributed to making our day magical and memorable. Marla Schreffler(parent)3 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 24-08-2019 This will be a bit complicated- there is a lot that is really good here- I think with adjustments this could be an exceptional place to hold a wedding. There is a bit to comment on here....General accommodations: My son and (now daughter in law!) arranged for a block of rooms. We decided to do a separate booking as my daughter and son in law were coming with us. We arranged for the mandatory 2 night stay at the Town Houses. This was superb! - Two floors. Downstairs, the smaller bedroom and bathroom connected to a full living room (fire place- convertible sofa)- dining area- full kitchen all loaded with everything you could possible want. My husband and I had the upstairs master bedroom with bigger bathroom.Location: Steele Hill is glorious--except for the carriage house- where my son's wedding was held, places are all relatively in walking distance. The views cannot be beat- it is a bit out of the way and you need really good GPS directions.Wedding venue: this is bit tough- a lot of good but definite need for some improvement. Steele Hill unfortunately went through a bit of a transition between the booking of this venue and the actually wedding. As a consequence, there were a few glitches. The good: Penny is wonderful. She totally understood our situation and really went out of her way to meet our needs. I hosted a \"meet and greet\" party the night before the wedding so our two respective families and friends could meet each other and chill before the big event. I would strongly recommend this!!!. Penny did an incredible job setting things up for us by the patio in back of the restaurant. Folks commented later that they loved this part of the wedding weekend. My son's reception was held at the Carriage House, a smaller place to hold a wedding party. The catering company did an excellent job- food was great. Here is the not so good: absolutely no handicapped accessible accommodations. The buffet is held downstairs and there are 16 steps to get to the top level (where we sat and danced). The rest rooms are also downstairs. For most this would not be an problem but we had two grandmas with mobility issues. There was no assigned person to coordinate things here and we did run into several problems. There were communication issues- I won't go into a lot of details here- but I think that it is essential to have someone on site to assure that, at least at the beginning, things run smoothly and things promised, actually happen.Overall review: Steele Hill has great potential to be a go-to place for a wedding. Several of our guests decided to make this into an extended vacation because of the numerous amenities and location. As a wedding venue, improvement is needed. Penny certainly seems to know how to coordinate a wedding but the issues I noted previously need to be resolved. Reviewed on 26-08-2019

Megan MacPherson(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 17-09-2016 I cannot say enough about Steele Hill and how amazing our wedding was. A little over a year ago, my husband and I decided we had to be married in the lakes region of NH - we are avid hikers, vacation there in the summer, and were engaged on Winnipesaukee. Knowing we had a lot of decisions to make and a lot of options to explore, we began our search for the perfect venue. We both fell in love with Steele Hill immediately. It had absolutely everything we wanted: an amazing view of Winnisquam and surrounding mountains where we could have an outdoor ceremony, plenty of rooms for our guests to stay the weekend, but most importantly it had Penny. Planning a wedding is so stressful, but planning a wedding with Penny was an absolute pleasure. She was right there with me for every step of the process, had all of the right answers, and made me feel comfortable with every decision we made. At this point, I don't know how anyone plans a wedding without her. Day of, her staff was equally amazing, the bartenders were friendly, the food was incredible and everything went perfectly. My guests still cannot stop talking about how amazing Steele Hill is, and how they want to come back and stay for a weekend. Linda LaVallee(wedding party)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 14-11-2017 5 Stars!!I cannot say enough about the wonderful, attentive service we received at Steele Hill from the first contact to the end of the wedding celebration. Penny Miller, Director of Hospitality Sales, was my first contact. Penny was very knowledgeable, accommodating, personable, and most important, clearly loved her job. I knew immediately I was in good hands. On the day of the reception, I was met by the kitchen manager who introduced me to our server, Matt. Although we had a small group of 20, I was concerned one person would not be able to meet the demands of 20 different people ordering 20 different drinks and 20 different meals, but I couldn't have been more wrong. Matt was nothing short of remarkable, he was pleasant, efficient, and did everything he could to accommodate every request. The food was excellent, the atmosphere superb, every guest commented on how perfect it was. Thank you to Penny, Matt and all of the staff at Steele Hill for treating our small wedding celebration like the most important event of the day. Thank you! Reviewed on 14-09-2016
Carissa Vizakis(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 18-06-2016 I must begin by saying that my wedding day involved virtually no stress or snafus, which I hear can be pretty unrealistic so I am grateful for that because we've all heard the horror stories! The location itself was enough. Our guests were mesmerized by the views and peaceful, breathtaking atmosphere! After its all said and done, my husband, myself and our family and friends had an incredible weekend which is what matters the most. There were only minor things, in my opinion , that could have used improvement. Firstly, the bar service situation was rather dissapointing. Months leading up to the big day, penny and staff had reiterated that they only serve safely, which I respected considering that was one less headache we'd have to endure on our special day. However, they denied serving some of our guests who were hardly over any sort of limit and I say this as a bride who had perhaps 2 drinks the entire evening. My husband, the groom, waited 5 minutes for a beer at one point, adding that the bar staff was rude and unaccomodating. His brother, the best man, was also given a hard time about being served. Apparently they questioned his age....he's a 24 year old man at his brothers wedding so he did not have his liscence readily available for the bartender. Having to go back to the hotel room to retrieve your liscence at your brothers open bar wedding is a bit rediculous in our opinion. The actual dinner waitstaff for the evening however were very friendly and quite helpful. Our late night snacks were placed under the air conditioning unit so after about 5 minutes our sliders were cold and inedible which was dissapointing considering the cost. No one had even announced that the snacks were brought out so most of it went uneaten, again, frustrating. Penny was extremely friendly, helpful and responsive throughout our entire relationship with the venue however we hardly saw her on the actual day of or night prior to the wedding day which was challenging for some of our vendors (and guests, family etc) who felt left in the dark and uncertain of timelines and what not. Overall communication and organization felt a bit lacking. These to me are minor details as again I still had a wonderful day and what I thought to be a beautiful ceremony and reception, but for some who prefer strict organization and constant communication, these may be more significant details. For these minor details I have given 4 instead of 5 stars, however my wedding day was again still wonderful and we are happy with choosing Steele Hill as our wedding venue overall! Cathy Loesch(bride)1 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 17-10-2015 I was married this fall at Steele Hill and was not impressed. It had all the amenities I needed and was a very pretty location but the staff is seemingly inexperienced and incompetent. I was embarrassed by how my guests were treated. The hotel staff messed up the reservations and I had to have multiple conversations with many people, including the manager only to have them still wrong on the day of check-in. No one was provided with receipts upon check-out because they ran out of paper. (seriously?) Everyone was told their receipts would be emailed to them however this did not happen. Only to find out that when my father got his credit card statement that he was double charged. The reception room was not set up the way it was supposed to be and all my guests were shoved into one tiny space while the rest of the room was filled with random bare tables. I left an item in my room and realized it just hours after I left. I immediately called and said I would come back and pick it up but was told that there was no one there that could get it for me and I would have to fill out a form online to submit a claim and pay for it to be shipped back to me. This was 2:00 on on Sunday evening and I was going on my honeymoon the next morning. All in all, I spent a LOT of money on VERY small amounts of sub-par food, got poor service and am still apologizing to my family for their treatment. Reviewed on 21-11-2015

Jennifer Scheriff(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 14-03-2015 My husband and I were so impressed with Steele Hill, mostly because Penny Miller was like some kind of wedding planning superhero. Penny was my rock through the whole planning process and bent over backwards to make sure everything was exactly how we wanted. She worked with us to create a menu that was vegetarian friendly since so many of our guests were vegetarian including myself, and was flexible despite all the changes we made along the way. She supported all of my somewhat odd ideas about decorations, the ceremony, and the reception space. Most of all, she was calm and sweet and warm, and responded to all my texts, emails and phone calls in a timely manner. Penny has so much experience and seems to really love her job and the couples she meets. Besides Penny though, the food was AMAZING - all of our guests raved about it, and even though I only had a few minutes to stuff my face all of the food was spectacular (especially the potatoes, eggplant parm and lemon ricotta ravioli!). The servers were also spectacular, and went out of their way to bring my husband and myself hors d'oevres when I was bustling my dress and we were preparing to enter the reception hall. Not only that, but when some of our guests had maybe a bit too much alcohol and got a little obnoxious, the bartender and DJ kept them in check. My husband and I agreed our wedding would not have been nearly as much fun or as comfortable had we gone with another venue we looked at. Reviewed on 16-03-2015
Nicole Brogan(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 31-12-2014 Oh Steele Hill! It was a long, long planning process, not without its hiccups. At the end of the day, my wedding was 100 on a scale of 1 to 10. We had a two year engagement and decided to book Steele Hill shortly there after. We had already decided we wanted to get married on New Years Eve and wanted a destination where our guests could come have a few days to bond and celebrate. When we arrived we got the warm, intimate unique destination feeling we had craved. We signed a contract shortly after. We ended up working with 3 different wedding coordinators during our planning process. In the end, we got Penny and couldnt be more thankful for her. She is ridiculously responsive, supportive and nurturing. Several things that our previous planners had told us would happen weren't able to, but Penny would ask what we wanted to get out of what we had planned and helped us come up with something we could do that would achieve what we wanted. She was there to handle all our panicked calls all the way until she smoothed my train and veil before my walk down the aisle. That may seem small, but when you are the bride it means everything. We had an amazing bartender who made the perfect shot for my bridesmaids and I ( I never take shots so he went easy). We shut down Tovas tavern the next night and was there again with another awesome bartender. The waitstaff was also so wonderful. After our rehearsal dinner (which was also on site) all of our favorite people went to the pool to drink and celebrate. It was an amazing experience. Our ceremony was in the carriage house and I've never seen anything more beautiful. The fire was roaring and in the dusk it felt so magical. I can't tell you how many people came up and told us it was the most beautiful ceremony space they had ever seen. Food was amazing, Penny was beyond amazing and there wasn't one thing that I would change. \r\rThe negatives were few, but in the interest of being complete:\r\r1) two night minimum for guests made a lot of our guests stay off site. \r2) late check in and early check out was tough.\r3) there was some back and fourth with fees that had been agreed upon being waived then being charged. \r4) we went with the house DJ (our choice, not required). He did a great job, but did go a little off our requested song choices. He also played the wrong version of our first dance song (right song, wrong version). He was great overall and no one but me would notice but I think he waited until the last minute on somethings because he has done this so many times before. He did give us amazing uplighting and was sweet and accomadating. Dance floor was always full.\r\rLike I said I would not change a single thing in our special day. It was the most perfect, beautiful few days of my life. I would without a doubt recommend this venue. \r Reviewed on 03-01-2015

Penny helped us get everything planned and organized, but was unfortunately not able to be there for our day, but Amber came in and it felt like she had been with us all along. She was even there for me with a Tide pen when I got a small stain on my dress!\r\rI'm not sure where we would have been without Renee, who was literally with us throughout the entire weekend. She was our waitress at the rehearsal dinner, then she set up, worked, and cleaned up the reception, and then she was there first thing the next morning for brunch. She was even still there to help us when we came back the next afternoon to get our supplies - she helped us carry them to the car! She did an amazing job setting up the reception - we had some specifics, but we gave her a lot of freedom to make it look nice, and she delivered. \r\rI can't say enough nice things about the resort, the people, and the setting. It was super hot in the room too and they did not turn up the AC. But the food was amazing and the service was great. So, that's why I gave 4 stars. Rachel Kobey(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 06-10-2012 Steele Hill was an excellent place for my wedding. I loved everything about it. The views are amazing, the staff is excellent, and the food is wonderful. I loved having the rehearsal dinner there, it made it so easy and they even added nice fall decorations that we did not expect. We even had a nice campfire afterwards to make the party continue. Most importantly, your wedding day will go absolutely smoothly with the Steele Hill wedding coordinator Larry and his assistant. Larry has been running over 100 weddings a year a Steele Hill for over 30 years and it shows. He has a relaxed attitude and promises you everything will work out and it does with him and his assistant behind the scenes making everything come together. My mom generously offered to make the centerpieces and decorations for the wedding. On the day before the wedding I was overwhelmed what she thought Larry and his crew could do in an hour. She had certain ways she wanted the napkins and the menu cards placed, she had very complicated centerpieces and table decorations to set up that required detailed notes. They even had to stick a screwdriver in just right into a vase to turn on Led Lights. And 6 candles arranged a certain way on each table that had to be lit. We were one of the few Jewish weddings they had so we had to figure out where to store and where to build a huge wedding canopy wood structure. Larry was calm and helpful the whole time, even though there were two weddings before us that day. When the weather looked iffy they even set up a tent as a back up so we didnât have to hold the wedding in their nice indoor spot. As he came to pick me up for me to go down the aisle, he said he noticed my DJ had not shown up. When I could not get a hold of my DJ he took care of getting the previous DJ to come back and took care of the whole thing so we could relax during our wedding. Larry is not the easiest person to get a hold through phone so just be prepared its best to call him several times till you get him live on the phone. Once you get him he has all the time in the world for you and will patiently answer all your questions. Anyways, the people at our wedding could not believe how wonderful the facility was and how amazing the views were. I would highly recommend Steele Hill for a wedding. Reviewed on 12-12-2012

Christine Thompson(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 13-10-2012 I chose Steele Hill because of it's beautiful setting, of course, and I liked the idea of our friends and family being able to spend the weekend with us at the resort. I worried A LOT about the two rooms that would hold our guests because I thought there might be a disconnect with guests in the \"2nd room.\" I did have someone say they didn't hear our first song and couldn't hear much in there, but my dj was good about dealing with the sound in the second room. AND those folks who really care to see your first dance, cake cutting, etc. will make their way to the doorways or into the front room to see everything. (We split it by having our family in the first room and friends in the second room...that worked well.)\rLarry drove me crazy throughout the planning...mostly because I didn't like the way he put things, he could have told me the same thing in a different way and I might have liked him better. When push came to shove, the weekend of the wedding, he was really good. \rI didn't use the house dj, but I spoke with someone who did and she said he was great. I just didn't like the idea of not being able to meet with the dj before hand. My DJ was really great though (DJ Mr. Jonathan).\rEveryone said dinner was GREAT, we had a vegetarian at the wedding and he raved about the food. My husband and I just ate to get it done with, because we knew how much running around we had ahead of us :)I didn't like that we had to go have lunch or dinner there to taste the food, they don't do a tasting for the bride and groom. But rest assured, the food is good.\rIt was 50 degrees out during our outdoor ceremony and not one person complained...they commented it was a bit chilly, but talked much more about HOW GREAT this place was and what a beautiful ceremony we had. My guests were really impressed with the location, the accomodations, the view...all of it. \rThe room was decorated just how I thought (but that might have a lot to do with my florist too...I'll review her later - Lakes Region Floral Studio...AWESOME!). I really was worried about this because I took the time to make my own centerpieces and carefully decide how I wanted tables decorated...and there was only one hour between the end of the last wedding and the start of mine to get the room ready. I stressed that there was no way they could do everything they needed to my room in an hour...they CAN!!\rI will warn you to keep your bridesmaids nearby when the wedding ends if you have a lot of decorations, they'll clean the room....and then you have to carry your boxes of stuff out and I had A LOT of stuff!! They did let me keep it in their storage area, then deal with it the next morning, but I was still carrying large boxes around in my wedding gown haha. \rI think that's all...I tried to address all the things I worried about in the months leading up to our wedding :) Spending the whole weekend with our friends and family was really a lot of fun too...we had the rehearsal dinner right there. During my planning process there were times I wished I'd looked at more places or maybe chose someplace else (because of all my worries listed throughout the review) in the end I was SO HAPPY with this venue!!\rHappy Wedding Planning!!
