Sweetwater Branch Inn Reviews

Loved Sweetwater! The customer service was excellent on the hospitality side and for the venue side, Adrienne was excellent as well as anyone else I spoke on the phone with or stayed in communication with via email. My husband and I live in Sunrise, FL and they still made the planning of all things smooth and comfortable. We felt stress not one time during this whole process. Be sure to look carefully of where you choose to lodge as I learned once I arrived that our room had another unit attached to it from the inside. You can hear the other guests. I am not sure if all units are like this, but if you prefer to be solo, make sure to inquire. I did not know and did not read the description well enough so that was on me. Nothing on Sweetwater's end. Our wedding was beautiful and memorable. We can't wait to return just because! Nothing but good vibes from the establishment :) I am not sure if this is universal party planning etiquette, but be sure to include your vendors on the guest list as they will be accounted for because they make a late for them as well. I am not sure if this is optional, but it is good to know that this is their policy so you know how to manage guest count. And if you're getting married, don't forget to include yourselves! Can't wait to return:) Reviewed on 12-12-2023

We recently hosted our wedding at Sweetwater Branch Inn. What a magical place! The rooms are spacious quaint, and well-equipped. Several have 2 person hot tubs and water dispensers. Everything was immaculately clean and fresh!Breakfast is super tasty with a selection of hot items, bread, cakes, and pastries. In terms of a wedding venue, Adrienne is Sweetwater's event coordinator, and we could have not asked for a more knowledgeable and friendly person. She will make your wedding perfect as well! The Gardens and dining hall are very beautiful and without compare in Gainesville. In fact the whole property seems to take a guest back about 100 years in time to when the city was a different place. I hope to not get married again :-) but if I do I will want it to be here! We absolutely loved working with Sweetwater Branch Inn to host our wedding reception! They were kind, helpful, clear, thorough, and attentive throughout the entire planning process. We emailed them lots of random questions that they answered right away. Our coordinator for the venue, Adrienne Phillips, (and the entire Events Team) were exceptional and provided a beautiful space/atmosphere for our reception. The grounds are beautiful, the Inn itself is such a lovely place to stay, the food was great, and the staff amazing. I highly recommend touring/booking Sweetwater Branch Inn, it was more then we could have hoped for! 10/10! Reviewed on 24-06-2023

Jessica Stone(bride)3 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 23-09-2022 I got married here in September. This is a very beautiful venue that could suit any wedding theme/vibes. For me, I opted for this venue as my ceremony and reception space. They also did the catering and the bar tending. There are many good things I could say. The food was great and the bar tender was amazing and super sweet! Unfortunately, there were quite a few things that didn’t settle well with me. In part of the planning process you sit down with the events coordinators and go over the the final details, break down the costs, and build a time line. There are many thing you can add, take away, suggest, ect to make the day your own. One thing included would be a day of coordinator that is included in the price break down. We were told and understood that we would be setting up all of our own decorations and communicating with our other vendors (which was perfectly okay). The purpose the day of coordinator would be over-seeing the venue’s staff and keeping thing on track and smooth as far as timing as they had a copy of the timeline we went over together. Unfortunately, this did not happen. I saw our day of coordinator maybe 3 times. The first time was prior to the ceremony. While my now husband and I were doing our first look in our ceremony space. In our contract we rented the space prior to the ceremony time so that we had time to set up and take pictures. We were not greeted kindly when taking pictures prior to our ceremony time in this space because the chairs weren’t set up yet. Please keep in mind this was less than an hour before the ceremony. I was crossing my fingers hoping they would even put out the chairs. About 20 minutes prior to the ceremony starting, when guest were arriving to take their seats, someone was using a leaf blower to clear the area of leaves. This may sound picky, yes I appreciate them clearing out the leaves, but could they not have done that earlier? This was a evening wedding. The leaf blower is very loud and disruptive. From my perspective, as the bride, this added a great deal of stress on me. I never saw the coordinator during the ceremony and not even until after cocktail hour when dinner was being served when she grabbed me to make my plate. The final time a saw her was when she reminded me that we had 2 hours or so left in the space and needed to start wrapping up the evening and we still had toast and cake cutting to do, which again is fine but I was the bride, I had a few drinks, and I was trying to enjoy my wedding day and not stress about keeping things on time because there was someone there who was paid to do that job. Finally as the end of the night, we planned to do the exit, nothing fancy, just have everyone lined up for us to leave and get pictures. Unfortunately, again there was no coordinator around to organize this. And I as the bride, didn’t want to ask my guests to line up for me. I thought that was a little weird. So we skipped that, and just hugged everyone good bye. I guess my point is, I was disappointed in the lack of coordination. I didn’t expect much, and I the final details meeting that we had I was told that all of these thing would have been overseen by her. I am mostly disappointed because I paid for something I didn’t get. I could have or would have hired someone or planned a little better to smooth the day out more if I would have known that the day of coordinator wouldn’t actually coordinate anything. While the day was beautiful, I was very stressed out. Reviewed on 01-11-2022

I couldn't speak more highly about this venue. My wedding was everything I wanted it to be. The McKenzie garden is stunning in the day and at night. Kimber Daff(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 18-12-2021 Sweetwater is a local venue to my husband and I, and we are very thankful to have chosen them for our reception! The team is very knowledgeable and really nice! They make sure to keep you updated on important dates and changes if any were made. Day of coordination is superb, they have everything handled and I was so amazed to see it all set up for our reception. They took all of my ideas and made them come to life. They offer great packages and you can add or take things off as you like in accordance with them. For lodging, my bridesmaids and I got ready and stayed in the Island Grove Cottage and Lester's Place, while both sets of parents rented La Chua and Cross Creek. Island Grove was perfect as we had plenty of room for getting ready the morning of, as well as for pictures. My husband and I did our first look photos in their gardens area and it was absolutely perfect. They make sure to keep everything looking nice and the plants are also well taken care of. Many people use this venue for a ceremony and reception, but we used it for our reception. We got to be on the grounds early for photos, and there was no hassle, even though we were not technically \"using\" it yet. They also make sure to let other events know there is a wedding going on, that way you do not have random strangers walking through your event. Parking is super easy, you can use the Alachua County School Board lot right across the road from them. They provide parking signs you can personalize for guests to know where they need to go. Our day was nothing short of perfect and the reception was everything I could have asked for. I would definitely recommend this venue and this team, you will not be disappointed. The entire day was magical and I attribute a large amount of that to the knowledgeable, prepared, & courteous Sweetwater staff that worked very hard to ensure that my day was special. My husband and I selected the weekend package which included rehearsal time & dinner on Friday. Wedding on Saturday. Morning after brunch on Sunday with a mimosa bar and an incredible buffet of delectable food!! I cannot say enough about the food. The food was divine! All three days, absolutely incredible food. Every single server was kind and friendly. They all smiled and tried to anticipate needs. The day of the wedding, the lovely wedding coordinator at Sweetwater, Maria, personally found me & mr husband at the reception and brought us a tray of all the foods that were going out. This way we got to mingle AND enjoy the food that we selected. Everything about my wedding was magical. I will definitely be coming back for an anniversary to have another party. PS I forgot to mention how incredible the honeymoon cottage is! There is a jacuzzi in the room as well as a fire place, kitchen, and bathroom with standing shower. I had my wedding there I have to say I wasn't too happy, I honestly expected my day to go well since I had such a small reception. The ceremony and part of my reception were great because of awesome vendors like my DJ Intel and Photographer Namesake Photography. My wedding Coordinator was Marie or Maria or whatever, she didn't even introduce herself to me, she was rude to my guests and they told me how snarky and full of distasteful attitude she had, I was so preoccupied my guest told me after the wedding and I was so upset because I did not expect this at all based on reviews and the sheer beauty of the place. It's such a beautiful place to have a wedding and I've been planning for a year. Marie or Maria isn't even one of the coordinators I met in my first consult or my tasting. The other serving staff was very nice and courteous and the only time she seemed happy was when the wedding was over. Marie or Maria barely did anything! She even realized it in my face because she asked In a dull way \" what can we do to make it better\" as if she wanted to. I just wanted her to get out of my face. There were no plates assigned to me and my husband when we sat for dinner and we had to get up to get our food as if we weren't standing already all day and after being told in a recorded meeting with newly that out plates would be made and served first while we are seated which Maria or Marie clearly didn't even know or understand. I don't know why I was assigned to her but that was very wrong of Sweetwater Branch. I would not recommend Sweetwater for a wedding reception. I didn't receive the service I expected. DANIELLE IRWIN(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 16-12-2018 Not only did we have the most beautiful reception at Sweetwater, we had an incredibly memorable weekend having our family and wedding party staying on site. The event coordinator was a huge help from day one, helping me plan the event of my dreams (with no shortage of patience and suggestions - necessary for my indecisiveness) all the way til day of. The team coordinated with the vendors, helped set up and even had a timeline schedule for the DJ. The coordinator, Alicia, went above and beyond, even bringing me out a plate of hor d'oeuvres while my dress was being bustled (and stood there to hold it since I couldn't move). The weekend was definitely made by staying at the beautiful bed and breakfast. The rooms were stunning yet cozy, the breakfast was to die for and, in the midst of the craziness of downtown, we felt quietly tucked away in a homey oasis. Though we were just a walk away from the bars and restaurants of downtown. Our whole wedding weekend was unforgettable and a breeze thanks to Sweetwater and the incredible staff there. It's an understatement to say I highly recommend it! Our guests (especially those that stayed on site) still talk about it all the time! Reviewed on 23-03-2019

The food is to die for including the homemade breakfast there in the mornings if you rent the cottages! Keeley was our day of coordinator and she was amazing! She knew how I wanted everything decorated, how to keep us on schedule, and how to answer all of our questions along the way! The venue is affordable in price and very flexible! The cottages are wonderful and renting them for our out of town family was the best idea because we had them all there to enjoy the time! I would highly recommend this venue over and over again! The space is beautiful and the entire process of planning our wedding reception was so easy and stress-free. What really makes this place amazing was that we were able to add an hour to the party even though it was such short notice. Though we hadn't originally planned for the party to go on, we are very grateful to Sweetwater and all our vendors for staying and accommodating us. It was completely worth the price for an extra hour because our guests were having so much fun! The staff was so helpful and made sure every detail was perfect. The food was delicious, and our day-of coordinator made sure we got to try the appetizers while we were off taking pictures before it was time for the dinner to start. The receptionist was amazing with answering questions about room accommodations. Being able to stay at the Inn with friends and family was a huge perk because we got to spend extra time with them, as well as easily finish up last-minute details for the reception. Getting ready with all my bridesmaids in one of the cottages was so much fun, and the groomsmen enjoyed playing video games with the groom in another cottage while they got ready. Julia Gay(bride)2 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 29-09-2018 First of all, let me say my wedding was perfect. The day was gorgeous and literally how I pictured the whole thing. The reason that the SWB is not getting a 1 is because my day was perfect, the food was good, and Alicia was lovely during the wedding. I had a small wedding of 40 in the MacKenzie House. However, dealing with the SWB, planning with the SWB, and communicating with the SWB was a real pain in the rear. If you are a cookie cutter bride with visions of a typical wedding, then SWB is for you. I did not. I wanted things that were different and I wanted to decorate myself. They told me to hire out, they told me to get a planner, they told me to pay them more so they could help. In the end, I ended up paying an extra $200 to get in to the reception space 1 hour before my ceremony so I could crash decorate. Fortunately I had my family and organization on my side And we got it done. SWB staff plans and executed weddings with a standardized format that does not leave room for individuality. If you want something different, expect to pay for it. I am sure that if you’re shelling out $20000 for a party of over 100, you might get more service. My husband and I believe that because our wedding was small, it was not as well taken care of. I don’t regret using SWB. Our day was perfect. During the planning I was waiting for the time to review them, I was going to annihilate the SWB, but I can’t, because our day was perfect. It was beautiful, but it was beautiful without the help of SWB. It was beautiful and perfect in spite of the SWB. Reviewed on 28-10-2018

Hannah Mayers(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 22-04-2018 The Sweetwater Branch Inn was everything my fiancé and I needed (and more) in a venue. Before we met with Sweetwater’s team, we had researched and toured several other venues who all gave a quote that was not only way over our budget, but it didn’t include the things that were most important to us. We were presented with random fees and decor regulations that would have prevented us from having the wedding we envisioned, but our first meeting with Sweetwater was a game changer! They listened to us, answered all of our questions and ultimately helped us design our wedding to be the dream that it was. There were no surprises, weird rules, or hidden costs. They helped us make all of our ideas a reality and even made a special cold brew coffee for us to serve to our guests and helped us design a signature speciality coffee bar menu! On the day of, our wedding coordinator, Alicia was there early in the morning to ensure the entire day ran smoothly and it DID! The entire day was insanely beautiful and the food was AMAZING! I would recommend Sweetwater to any couple looking for a venue that will give them the support they need to pull off such a major event. We are so grateful to have found you! Reviewed on 10-09-2018
Kyle Sieg(groom)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 17-08-2018 I couldn't have imagined a more perfect reception venue with more perfect people helping us through the entire process. From our initial consult to the wedding day, the Sweetwater team was fantastic. As a detail-oriented planner myself, I really appreciated that they had my back and were just as detail-oriented. As our wedding approached, we began to primarily work with Marjury, who I can't rave about enough. She coordinated everything reception-related for us, was sure we had time to eat and always had everything we needed. She even made sure we had a plate of our cocktail hour foods waiting for us back in our room after the reception. She honestly just felt like one of our awesome friends who constantly had our back. My only regret is that Marjury couldn't fully enjoy our wedding reception, as well. I just wanted her to hang out with us! I should also mention the food. The menu options are robust and the food is some of the best I've had at a wedding. Everyone complimented us on how great it was, especially the mac and cheese. The bartenders were awesome, too, always making sure we had what we needed as quickly as possible. The ability to have some of our closest friends and family stay onsite was also great. It was like our own little neighborhood of awesomeness! The morning breakfasts were another great communal time and the breakfasts, included with the B&B stay, were amazingly yummy. As a same-sex couple, we struggled mightily before the wedding to find reviews of places from other same-sex couples, so I also want to take a moment to say how this fact didn't even faze them one bit. Ever. The Sweetwater team was wonderful from start to finish and I couldn't have imagined a more perfect day, thanks in large part to Marjury and team. From Cornelia, the owner, to Marjury and the rest of the staff, whether Events or the B&B side, everyone was awesome and everything was perfect. We were an out-of-town couple coming back to our college town to get married, and Sweetwater was a great choice because they truly know how to execute a beautiful wedding flawlessly. We worked with Sarah on their dedicated events team from start to finish - she was flexible, responsive, and professional. We had our ceremony in the garden, and our reception in the McKenzie Hall (about 100 guests). The flow between the garden, cocktail area, and reception hall was fantastic, and it allowed people to move about freely the whole evening. Catering is provided through the venue, which may be a drawback for someone who wants to bring in their own. For us, it was a positive, and their menu is extensive. We scheduled an in-person tasting, and the food on the day-of was even better. We enjoyed all of the different rentals they offered - it really made bringing a personal touch to the event easy. Marjury was our day-of coordinator, but we had interactions with Sarah and Lauren along the way. Anytime I had a question they answered it promptly and thoroughly. Every detail was taken care of during our reception. The catering staff were excellent and attentive. I didn't have to worry about anything during the reception, because the event staff had everything taken care of. The food was absolutely delicious. Numerous friends and family members told us that this was one of the most beautiful venues they had ever seen. Another plus is that you can stay on site. I stayed in the Carriage House the night before my wedding and got ready there the day of. There was plenty of room for my entire bridal party to get ready. It was unique and much prettier than a traditional hotel room. The ONLY reason my review is not 5 stars is because of a mishap with the inn staff, not the event staff. My husband and I stayed on property in the Honeymoon Cottage the night of our reception, and the inn staff gave our cottage key to a stranger. On top of that, the sliding interior lock did not work in our cottage, so this stranger had access to our room. The key still hasn't turned up. It was an uncomfortable and stressful way to spend our wedding night and all we received was an apology in an email. The solution was to change the locks a week after the wedding, and to suggest that they would see us on our anniversary for another stay. I was not impressed with the customer service experience of this situation and did not feel reassured. I will not be back for another stay because of how poorly this was handled. Overall, I would highly recommend SWB as an event space, but you should be very clear about who can pick up your keys if you plan to stay on site! Reviewed on 11-02-2017

We could not have been more pleased with the final results once the big day finally came. Our day of coordinator, Marjury, made sure that everything was organized, and (just as important) on time. She would continue to check in with us throughout the event to make sure that we were staying on track, as well as making sure we were satisfied with everything. She accomplished all of this without seeming overbearing or disruptive. It's a fine line, but they managed to do perfectly. We felt very well taken care of. We had our ceremony outside by the gazebo. Our guest size was about 80, which was perfect for that space. We didn't need to use microphones, everyone could hear just fine. The reception space was beautiful. With almost the entire space being white, it gives all your guests and tables a chance to pop out. Again, with 80(ish) guests, the reception was spread out without feeling cramped or too far apart. It gave us a good sized dance floor area as well. The onsite accommodations were perfect for everyone in our party who stayed there. The rooms were quiet, but still close enough to where everyone felt a part of the \"community\". It's a great way to make sure everyone gets home safe too. Your rooms are just a stones throw away. DO NOT MISS THE BREAKFAST THE NEXT MORNING. Hearty and delicious. All in all, Sweetwater was a perfect place to get married. In just two days, we had made so many great memories there. When we visited SWB Inn and met with the wedding coordinating staff there, I realized that it was going to be the perfect place to have the wedding. Not only did they have every single detail under control, but they were so laid back and flexible throughout the process. Even the week of the wedding, as I had things pop into my head (e.g., I wanted a big Jenga set and cornhole added to the garden setup), I could shoot SWB a quick email, and they were happy to oblige. I was the most relaxed bride going into my big day, because I knew I had nothing to worry about. SWB helped my wedding be one of the most fun my guests had ever experienced. I had several of my friends indicate that if they had to do their wedding tomorrow, they would want to just copy mine. Marjury was my wedding day organizer and she did an amazing job! Everything was perfect and exactly how we wanted. She is such a sweetheart that she even brought me water ( without asking) when we were taking pictures. The waiting staff was also very polite, fun and attentive. The food was delicious and our guests still remember how good it was. From the beautifull venue to an amazing staff our wedding was absolutely perfect! We couldn't ask for anything more. Lauren and Cornelia listened carefully to our expectations for the evenings, they understood the various personalities, and they guided us through lovely and memorable celebrations. . .At one, Southern favorites, such as cheese grits, frog legs, and Gator fritters were served; at another, a traditional Korean tea ceremony was celebrated in the garden. (At all, mushroom ravioli was a hit!) For each event, the food was delicious and appropriate to the guests, the service was timely and courteous, and each setting was dazzling. This is due in a big part to Lauren, Sarah, and the rest of the Sweetwater staff. Everyone was incredibly helpful and it was surprising to me, as someone who tends to stress easily, that I was worry free on my wedding day. In addition to the support that you get from these ladies, I can't express how nice it was to have all of our family and friends staying at the inn. One of my favorite parts was getting to eat breakfast with everyone each morning. We lived in a perfect, cozy bubble filled with love for the weekend. Reviewed on 05-09-2015
Michelle Member(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 16-05-2015 My husband and I wanted to have a nice, but simple wedding. We were going for something that felt like a family reunion where two people happened to get married before dinner...And everyone was a little dressed up. Lauren, Sarah, and the entire staff at Sweetwater made everything so insanely simple and easy! I had NONE of the pre-wedding stress or planning fiascoes that I so feared going into this (we are elopement material all the way!). Oh, and did I mention we planned the whole thing from Rhode Island, where we live? No? Well, it was a non issue. A few email chains, 4 phone calls, and BOOM - DREAM WEDDING. The food was delicious, the garden was beautiful, the rooms were lovely, the staff was so friendly, the vendors they recommended were awesome - no complaints or do-overs. None. True, I wasn't a fussy bride and didn't come in with any demands to have my wedding day feel like a coronation, but I'm pretty sure that if I had, those requests would have been accommodated, too. Though not super fancy, my wedding was beautiful (simple, but make no mistake, this wasn't a bar-b-que or casual picnic! - it did carry the extra oomph of a wedding day!). I had a great time and credit Sweetwater's amazing team and network of vendors for making it all posible. Reviewed on 15-07-2015

Lauren Douglas(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 04-04-2015 I highly recommend Sweetwater Branch Inn for a wedding. I was the type of bride that didn't want to do any setting up/taking down, essentially I just wanted to show up and get married. It was the most stress-free occasion of my life! Even my mother, who stresses out over every detail in general, said on several occasions who amazing Sweetwater was. It truly is the best value out there. I had a friend who got married shortly after we did at a different location who had a \"budget wedding\" - long story short, she spent about as much as we did (within a couple hundred dollars) and did EVERYTHING herself...not worth the hassle! \r\rSarah - no words to adequately describe this AMAZING lady. She knows what you want done before you even request it on the event day. It rained on my wedding day, unfortunate, I know. However, Sarah had the radar pulled up on her phone all afternoon and we found a 20 minute window so I could still have my ceremony outdoors. \r\rSo, most important piece of planning a wedding for brides...money. HUGE VALUE!! They take your budget and basically lay out vendors for you. My father (Mr. Tight-wad) said how impressed he was. After the ceremony was over and things settled down, he couldn't believe what all was \"included\" in our final cost. \r\rThe food was outstanding! I wish I lived in Gainesville and I wish Sweetwater was a restaurant - I would honestly eat there for every meal!\r\rI'm pretty sure this is the venue my little sister will get married at when she decides to take the plunge - we can start a new family tradition!\r\rIf you are considering Sweetwater (even if you are not) - this is honestly the best place you can get married. They let you have the wedding you wish to create without trying to fit you into their mold like a lot of place do making your wedding feel like everyone else. The staff was always there through the whole process and on the day of everything could not have ran smoother. We rented out the whole inn that weekend for the wedding party and family and it was not just a reception but an experience. Susan Astary(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 12-04-2014 I highly recommend using Sweetwater Branch as your wedding venue! For starters, the grounds are absolutely beautiful. The garden is very well maintained and the hall is a stunning blank canvas for any reception. It was nice to have both indoor and outdoor features for our wedding celebration. The biggest plus for us, though, was the team at SWB! We had to plan our wedding from across the country, and I couldn't have done it without Lauren and Sarah. They were extremely helpful in answering all of our questions, especially since we couldn't go back to see everything in person before the wedding day. They gave us advice about setups from other weddings, and sent us pictures of particular items. They truly made planning from afar a much easier experience. Even better, though, was the service we received the wedding weekend. I didn't feel stressed about things being set up or designed well, because Lauren had great ideas about how things would run, and helped me with the final details. I honestly can't imagine a better \"full package\" experience. To top it off, the food was amazing, and we even got a plate saved for us in the honeymoon suite since we didn't have much time to eat at the reception :) Again, I can't speak highly enough of the team at SWB and the beautiful setting that the Inn has to offer.
