Gina P(bride)2 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 03-11-2018 My husband and I had our reception at The Ballantyne in November 2018. Our initial experience when we booked our wedding with the venue was positive, however about 4 months into planning we were told that our assigned wedding coordinator was leaving the venue and we would be receiving a new coordinator once a replacement was found. We heard absolutely nothing for 2 months when we decided to reach out again. Turned out the replacement had started (over a month before) and just never bothered to reach out to us. We scheduled our first meeting… none of the information for all of our vendors, coordinator services, linen selection, timeline, etc. that had been already covered with our first coordinator had been passed on. The new coordinator didn’t even take the time to read our contract prior to our first meeting. We literally had to start from scratch. We spent the next 5 months right up to our wedding going back and forth with almost every single communication in person and in writing being full of incorrect or outright wrong information that we repeatedly reviewed with her. The number of issues we had as a result of her lack of attention to detail, inexperience, and unfamiliarity with the venue was ridiculous. The absolute worst being the throwing out of my bouquet wrapped in pieces of my mother’s wedding dress. After our wedding we provided feedback to our coordinator and our booking agent, detailing all of the concerns we had around our experience. Our booking agent was authorized by a manager, Raj Radke, to offer us a one-night stay and spa treatment to be used in the next year as a resolution to our experience. We had no desire to return to a place that treated us so poorly and turned down the offer. The coordinator also offered to reimburse us the coordinator fee, however almost 2 weeks after the wedding it was discovered that she had not correctly completed our billing spreadsheet. Despite the fact that the coordinator had confirmed in writing that we had paid our bill in full prior to the wedding, they now claimed we had an unpaid balance. Instead of reimbursing us the full fee, they applied the “reimbursement” to her mistake. Raj, the manager was CCed on all of the communications around our concerns with the service we received and never took the time to speak with us, respond, or apologize once. This may have been a venue that provided great service at one time, but our experience was one of disappointment, frustration and incompetence. I would not recommend that anyone entrust their special day to this venue after the experience we have had with their current staff. Reviewed on 05-01-2019

They made every step of the process very special for me (the bride). From touring to tastings, it was all done perfectly. When booking with the Ballantyne, they have a venue planner that will work exclusively with you. Allison was the planner who worked with us and she helped make my vision come to life. She was always organized and had everything all together. The day of the wedding, she was there behind the scenes helping run the show and make sure the day went perfectly - which it did. The staff was amazing and went above and beyond. The food was impeccable -- definitely not your average wedding food. We had the tenderloin of beef, chicken and Scottish salmon as meat options on the menu. They were all so good, it was hard for me to choose which one I wanted for my meal and don't get me started about the potato sides (AMAZING). We also had them pass around hors d'oeuvres during cocktail hour, which was great! The bar made two specialty cocktails for us to share with our guests -- one was a more fruity drink, while the other had a whisky twist -- both were delicious. Initially Jody Young was helping us but went out on maternity leave and ended up staying home. Sue Bayrd was then assigned to us, she was new, but did an amazing job!! Ballantyne has hosted hundreds of weddings so they know all the small details that other people may forget. We also had a wedding planner and together Tina and Sue were fantastic. I didn't have to worry about anything. Sue was very helpful and allowed me to relax on my wedding day. I could text or call her anytime I needed. We had one slight hiccup - the chairs for our wedding came in a few days early but they had the wrong color caps on them. I called Sue and she immediately went to correct the vendor and had the right chairs in the same day. The service here is impeccable! We only had ONE mistake the entire wedding week, and Sue fixed it immediately. How many brides can say they only had one thing go wrong and it was fixed before the wedding day! I communicated via email and in-person meetings as many times as I needed and she was always available and knowledgeable about everything. Not only was Sue great, the salon was fantastic. From the beginning phase of scheduling our daughter's wedding reception, through all the planning phases, and ending a week after the reception, we were absolutely amazed at how wonderful the staff at The Ballantyne Hotel was. They made this experience so easy from the very beginning. They are extremely friendly, accommodating, organized, knowledgeable, and give incredible attention to detail. Options are explained well and carried out perfectly. Throughout the months of planning, we were given detailed printouts of everything we were selecting, with prices, sizes, descriptions, times, locations, etc. There were no surprises. Our meetings with our hotel representative, Alli Hall, were always fun and exciting. She made us feel very special and had great suggestions along the way. She stayed in touch regularly and responded to any emails we sent almost immediately. We hired her to be our \"day of\" planner/coordinator, which worked out so well since she was involved in all the planning along the way. She made the day much more enjoyable because she was always one step ahead of us and knew exactly what we wanted. The cocktail hour was lovely and because of sunny, warm weather, we were able to hold it inside and outside, which was awesome for the many northern guests who were ready for spring. The Ballantyne Hotel Ballroom was absolutely perfect for the reception and looked so beautiful. We draped the ceiling, which really finished off the room perfectly. Everything was done just as we had planned. We offered 3 entree choices and our guests all said the food was incredible. We used the vendor the hotel uses for wedding cakes and it was not only delicious, but gorgeous! We, also, had a candy bar during the reception. The guests (all adults) loved that! Bags were provided by the hotel, and guests used the scoops in each jar to fill up with their favorite candies. Fun! The day before the wedding, we used the hotel for our Bridal Luncheon. We had a tea and the staff was so friendly and attentive in all aspects of the event. It was a lot of fun and a great way to start the weekend. Because we had so many out of state guests, we also used the hotel for a \"Farewell Brunch\" the morning after the wedding. We decided on a breakfast buffet, which was perfect for everyone before they left town. The Ballantyne staff moved our reception flowers from the ballroom the night before to the tables set up for the brunch. Was a great way to take advantage of gorgeous arrangements. Again, the staff was terrific and met all our needs. We've had a lot of feedback from our guests and they have all said the Ballantyne Hotel was an incredible place to have a wedding reception. Jacqueline wilkinson(groom)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 21-04-2013 My wife and I got married at The Ballantyne Hotel on April 21st of this year. Seemless service is an understatement...\r\rIt was an extremely easy process to get a hold of sales managers to book the venue and meeting and events staff to plan everything. Jody Young was our wedding coordinator and she took the time to make sure we were happy with the decisions being made. She was readily available and cooperative with schedule changes which is a great thing when the stresss of wedding planning takes over.\r\rThe day of the wedding she came in early for special last minute requests and never hesitated to accomodate us. Everyone from the Front Office to banquet staff was extremely helpful, and thanks to them there were no bumps in the road the day of. I was confident that I had nothing to worry about because the staff and venue knew what they were doing. I would always recommend that a future bride and groom book through The Ballantyne! Samara Gummel(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 15-09-2013 What a beautiful venue! I held a mid September wedding ceremony on the South Lawn with the reception following in the Atrium and outdoor terrace. Every step of the planning process was perfectly managed by my assigned event manager. From booking the venue to setting up room blocks, selecting menues, decor and managing vendors- NOTHING was missed. My wedding day went PERFECTLY. This venue is classy, southern elegant- I honestly can't say enough about the quality of service here. This is not an inexpensive route- but I feel like you get even more than you pay for. As I held an afternoon ceremony, my reception was more of an extended cocktail party. The food was delicious! I would do it all over again and not change a thing. Our room was decorated with candles and rose petals for our wedding night...so romantic and sweet! This place does not miss a detail. Happy wedding planning to you!!!! Reviewed on 04-10-2013

RJK Member(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 16-03-2013 Ballantyne Hotel & Lodge was far above the rest of the venues we looked at on all accounts. We were immediately greeted by smiling and helpful staff during each visit to the property. The property is very elegant and the attention to detail is impeccable from the landscaping to the layout inside the building. \r\rOur Event Manager, Alli Hall, did an exceptional job and was in close contact with us during the planning period. Since we live in the New York City area, Alli had regular conference calls and email contact with us to help make our special day picture perfect. She also worked seamlessly with us and our local wedding planner on the fine details. All staff at Ballantyne was happy to help with anything that needed to be addressed. Alli did a great job with our event order, and helped make sure no details were overlooked. Specifically, she worked with us to make sure that the linens, chairs, china settings, and anything else with our reception all worked together. In the event that Alli was unable to meet with us, she made sure that another qualified staff member provided us with whatever we needed.\r\rMany thanks to everyone at Ballantyne who made our wedding ceremony and reception a lifelong memory for us and our guests. Cary Brown(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 28-04-2013 For our wedding event our rehearsal space was scheduled for the South Lawn. However, it was raining and the Carolina Room was the backup space for the rehearsal. When we arrived at the allocated time the space was not set. The room was a scattered mess of table and chairs. The rehearsal was cancelled. The private cocktail hour provided for the wedding party was terrible. The set up only provided 4 out of the 5 hors d'oeuvres that our guests enjoyed during the main cocktail hour. For the four that we did receive none of the accompaniments (dips/sauces) were provided. Additionally, there was a Dipping Display in the main cocktail hour which was not provided in the private cocktail hour. We only decided to go with a private cocktail party to insure we would be able to sample all the food after pictures. We were extremely disappointed when we saw how limited it was. Had we known this ahead of time we would have enjoyed the main cocktail hour with our guests instead. On a good note, the reception was perfect... not a single issue! Reviewed on 15-05-2013

Christine Weiss(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 24-03-2012 My husband and I got married at The Ballantyne Hotel on Saturday, March 24, 2012. We chose to do everything at The Ballantyne Hotel that weekend i.e. Spa day, golf outing, Rehearsal dinner, Wedding Ceremony & Wedding Reception, to ease travel for our guests. Alli Hall and the team at The Ballantyne Hotel helped make my wedding day and weekend truly the most memorable days of my life. They took so much off of my plate and made me feel at ease with everything. The hotel staff made all of it such a fun and easy process. Our families were able to relax and lounge in the lobby area and meet relatives as they arrived at the hotel. Every single staff member was top notch beginning with the bellmen at the front doors. My husband and I checked into the hotel on Thursday so that we could unpack and get settled before guests started arriving the next day. If you’re getting married there, I would strongly suggest checking in a few days early.\r\rIn all fairness, I tend to be a tough critic of customer service and expect a high level of service from individuals and companies. With that said, Alli Hall and the team at The Ballantyne Hotel far surpassed any of my wildest expectations. I also had an amazing experience with so many other staff members at the hotel I came in contact with during the months leading up to the wedding day.\r\rKelly Randazzo was extremely knowledgeable, responsive and helpful to work with when we first looked at The Ballantyne Hotel and established the contract. Matt Smith was extremely accommodating and helpful handling special requests and reservations for our guest. I worked with Ashley Bullins to arrange a spa day the day before our wedding. She was very responsive and attentive throughout the whole process. The spa treatments were awesome! I would highly recommend Temna for the reflexology. It was the first time I had reflexology and I now swear by it. I think it helped me to relax all weekend. Heather Tapper was extremely helpful, responsive and accommodating to work with on arranging our Rehearsal dinner at The Gallery restaurant. I know I have surely forgotten to mention so many other staff members that were excellent to work with during our stay.\r\rThe food at our wedding was awesome. I have had so many guests comment, “This is the best food I have ever had at a wedding.” Many of our guests also commented that they were surprised at how well the beef was cooked for so many people being served at the same time. \r\rAlli Hall, our wedding coordinator, was more wonderful to work with than anyone I could ever have dreamt of. She was extremely thorough and detail oriented throughout the whole wedding planning process. Our families and friends loved her and could not say enough about her. She is passionate about her job and it really shows. She really cares about you and your family and making things perfect for you and your day. It is very refreshing to work with someone who loves what they do; it is so evident in how she treated us.\r\rI went into the whole wedding planning process wanting a small destination wedding on an island. Because of so many circumstances, it wasn’t possible. Looking back now, I don’t think any destination or island could come close to doing all that Alli Hall and the team at The Ballantyne Hotel did for me, my husband and our families. \r\rI would strongly recommend choosing The Ballantyne Hotel for your wedding day or weekend. You won’t regret your experience or the memories you make there! \r Reviewed on 17-09-2012
Melissa Manna(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 30-04-2011 A friend of mine had the good fortune of of getting married at the Ballantyne. Her wedding was stunning (they use some of her pictures on their website), and I envied her for being able to afford such a beautiful place. I knew that when it came time to plan my wedding, I'd have a much smaller budget to work with. I didn't think I could plan a budget friendly wedding at the Ballantyne. I was wrong! They have a ton of options and I easily found a menu for my wedding that not only fit my budget, but wowwed my guests. \r\rA lot of my guests are from up North. I wanted them to experience true Southern hospitality when they came down to North Carolina. The Ballantyne delivered on every level. Their guest rooms are bright, cheerful and comfortable. The hotel is luxurious without being stuffy. Their golf course is lush and green. I was so lucky to have beautiful clear blue skies on my wedding day and had my ceremony outside, overlooking the picturesque 18th hole. Their gorgeous outdoor pool made my guests feel like they were in the tropics. Everyone raved about the weekend they spent at the Ballantyne!\r\rThe staff was also really incredible, from start to finish. They were so helpful and took a genuine interest in helping us plan a wedding that reflected our personalities. They're fun and friendly and I always got the sense that they love what they do. Our event coordinator was incredibly knowledgable and responsive to the millions of questions I barraged her with. She always made me feel important. The banquet staff were awesome. They went out of their way to make sure my guests were comfortable and had everything they needed. They also made sure that my husband and I found time to eat and enjoy a few minutes to ourselves. Even the housekeepers went above and beyond to help our guests, specifically, a mother and her handicapped child who were struggling to juggle luggage and a wheelchair.\r\rIf you want your wedding to have a wow factor, then the Ballantyne is the place for you! Kaitlin Locke(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 14-05-2011 There is no argument that The Ballantyne is one of the most beautiful wedding venues in Charlotte with its lush views of the golf course and beautiful interiors. I would recommend it to anyone as one of the most picturesqe locations for a wedding. However, we were disappointed in the execution of the overall event and our overall experience. The food was delicious and the venue as a one-stop-shop is unbeatable, but they were very short staffed the night of my wedding. Though we were informed that we would be the only wedding that weekend...we were definitely not the only event. There were other brides getting ready at the Ballantyne in the conference suites which confused many of the wedding party members; there were prom photos being taken in the same space as my wedding photos resulting in a wait time to take pictures at the fountain and golf course; they were very short staffed during our cocktail hour and forgot to bring food and drink to my wedding party during that time, which was originally planned for; we had to wait nearly an hour to find a staff member to serve our cake after my husband and I had cut the cake together; and our bar package was missing a lot of the drinks we had specified in our bar package. It was very hard to find the staff when we needed something. Come to find out there were 2 to 3 other events being held in the other ballrooms that same night. Not that I minded sharing the space, but the staff should have been doubled to accommodate the large groups. Overall, it was an excellent day full of great memories, but I expected more from a place like the Ballantyne, especially with the hefty price tag that comes with holding your event there.
