The Blue Heron Event Center Reviews
Meghan Farrar(other)5 out of 5 Rating
I would HIGHLY recommend The Blue Heron, it was amazing! The outside venue for the ceremony was gorgeous and made for terrific photos. The Heron room where we had the reception was indoors and that was beautiful with a fire place, gold chairs and linens, we really didn't have many decorations or flowers but it was so pretty that we did not need them. The food was absolutely amazing, we went with the plated dinner option with appetizers and champagne. We had several guests comment on how good the apps and craft beer were as well. Bethany and Francesca helped us out from beginning to end with the planning, organizing, helping...it made the process so seamless. They organized the wait, bar and clean-up staff. All we had to do was schedule a time to pick up our things after the wedding and tip the staff for great service! Thank you Blue Heron for making our special day so perfect! Reviewed on 15-10-2023

As soon as we looked at Blue Heron Event Center we knew that was the one for our wedding day. The site of the outdoor ceremony was beautiful, the grand ballroom was so pretty and we loved all of the space for our event - including the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception. From the time we booked the date, Francesca and Bethany were so helpful in answering all of our questions and helping us plan the wedding of our dreams. We are so happy we were married at Blue Heron - everything was amazing. The rehearsal was great, the food was excellent, the ceremony was so beautiful and the whole day was exactly how we pictured it. It was so nice to have a coordinator on site as well for the rehearsal and day of so we could enjoy the wedding and each other.Thank you Francesca and Bethany and the entire team at Blue Heron - you all really were our something blue and made our wedding day so special!- Elliott & Andrea Alloway, married August 11, 2023 Reviewed on 29-08-2023

They quickly responded to any questions or concerns I had. The food is beyond amazing! We got so many compliments about how good it was. They also work with you if there are any food allergies with guests or a special request from the bride or groom. We had our wedding on 12/3/22 so we didn't have the ceremony outside by the pond with the fountain but, since our guest list was family only (about 25 people), we were able to have it inside infront of the fireplace & it was beautiful. Overall, we had a great experience & would absolutely recommend having your wedding here! Reviewed on 06-03-2023

Monica Leach(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 03-09-2022 BLUE HERON IS THE BEST!! My husband and I had been working with Blue Heron since August 2019 when we originally booked our Sep 4, 2021 wedding. Since that time, we decided to push back our wedding to Sep 2022 due to COVID and Blue Heron could not have been more accommodating and flexible with this change. Everyone we worked with from our start with them in 2019 to our finish in 2022 were knowledgable, friendly, accessible, helpful, and professional. Special shoutouts to their event coordinators Bethany and Francesca! Blue Heron is a well oiled machine that knows what they are doing when it comes to running and coordinating a wedding. Everything went so smoothly and my husband and I did not have a worry in the world when it came to the day of. Not to mention, their ceremony site is especially beautiful outside by the pond and pergola and their reception space in the grand ballroom is perfect for a large wedding! Finally, their food is INCREDIBLE! The amount of compliments we got on the food from our guests - the limit does not exist! People LOVED IT! (Shout out the short ribs and risotto). Some special things we loved were they offered their own beers on draft during the reception, everything is included such as tables/chairs/linens when booking with them, their staff sets up and tears down making for a stress free start and end to the wedding and reception, and their location is beautiful and perfect for wedding photos!! When Britney and Bethany took over we were notified promptly and the transition was seamless to us! They were very easy to get in touch with throughout the entire process and worked so hard to make our day perfect. They also had a lot of great suggestions for our timeline and how to best decorate the venue!Speaking of the venue, I was truly taken aback by how beautiful it is! We took photos by in several areas around the pond, and the fountain made the perfect backdrop for our first kiss! The reception hall was large, elegant, and had more than enough space to accommodate all of our guests. Everyone we interacted with at Blue Heron were kind and professional as well. From the waitstaff that kept us full to the bartenders who kept the drinks flowing: your hard work did not go unnoticed! We were also taken aback by how amazing the food was and our guests still cannot stop raving about it to this day! I truly cannot say enough great things about Blue Heron. Briana Flowers(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 11-12-2021 If you’re looking for a beautiful venue, with amazing food, spectacular scenes for photos and hands down THE BEST staff, you need to stop looking and book The Blue Heron. Our experience from start to finish was nothing short of amazing. Their team worked with us through not one, but two Covid postponements and never once added to the mountain of anxiety and uncertainty we were facing. They helped us plan our small intimate wedding ceremony on July 11, 2020 (our original wedding date) as well as our big wedding day event on December 11, 2021. Both days turned out beautifully. For our December wedding date, we dropped off our decor on Friday morning and the team transformed the bits and pieces we gave them into a beautiful and thoughtfully planned out reception. Never in a million years could we have made their space look the way they did. Each member of the staff that had a hand in our wedding day was professional, understanding and accommodating. Every question, email, request or worry I may have had throughout our wedding planning process was quickly and mindfully managed by Khadar, Britney and Bethany with ease. We experienced a lot of ups and downs during our planning process due to Covid, but never once did we question our decision to hold our reception at the Blue Heron. We were willing to wait over 3 years (including postponements from the pandemic) to have our wedding at our dream venue and we don’t regret that decision at all. Thank you really isn’t a big enough way to express our appreciation for the team at The Blue Heron and how amazing they were to work with. 10/10 recommendation for any event you might be hosting. Kristina Bayus(bride)1 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 06-09-2020 If I could give them zero stars I would. Khadar has been the most unprofessional vendor I have ever met and worked with. His lack of communication is comical. He constantly lied to us from the beginning was not transparent with pricing, or really anything. He literally wrote up five floor plans after asking him to correct it, and he could still not give us what we asked for. I am blown away by how he treats the people that pay him. Brides, seriously look into anywhere else. I cancelled my dream wedding because he has been that terrible to work with. I want to add that when I originally signed my contract, Mary Jane was their coordinator at the time and not Khadar. We would have never of signed a contract there if we had known he was taking over everything. Very disappointing. He will reply to this statement saying I could’ve had our wedding during the pandemic and risked peoples lives so they could be in business and make money... however I was very sick and hospitalized with cancer and other health issues in 2020, after letting him know this he still insisted we could have our wedding. Obviously this was a very ignorant and ableist statement and shows they have zero empathy and compassion for their couples what so ever. I also have a recording of him admitting he lied to us but will still not take responsibility for it. The most unprofessional vendor I’ve ever dealt with, if you want to avoid a nightmare during wedding planning then avoid this place at all costs. Reviewed on 29-04-2021

It was hard planning a wedding during COVID (we legit booked this place early March 2020- RIGHT before things went bad), but K made it as stress-free as possible. The food was soooo good- we chose the executive BBQ (their brisket- AMAZING). The staff working the bar and general areas were SUPER attentive and made sure everyone had what they needed, especially bride and groom. However, K, Jen and the whole staff at Blue Heron did an amazing job in creating a beautiful and memorable event for my daughter's October 2020 wedding. Their outdoor wedding venue is absolutely beautiful! Plus, it's reassuring to know you have the ability to make the decision to move the ceremony indoors due to inclement weather just hours before the ceremony (especially with the unpredictable Ohio fall weather)...Most places required at least a day's notice. Thankfully, despite the weather forecast, we were able to have the ceremony outdoors as planned. The lobby and reception hall were absolutely breathtaking... and the appetizer and dessert stations were beautifully displayed. And the FOOD... I can't say enough about the food...Everything was absolutely delicious and the plate presentation was perfection. Beautiful venue, outstandingly delicious food, yummy cocktails, and great service...what more could you ask for for your special day. I highly recommend Blue Heron! Reviewed on 02-03-2021

Due to COVID, we like many others had to reschedule / postpone and reduce the number of guests at our wedding. Although we originally were not going to host our wedding at the Blue Heron, we ended up changing to their venue due to scheduling and availability. We could not be happier with the way it worked out! We held two ceremonies (Christian and Hindu), lunch, cocktail hour and dinner at Blue Heron. Without even being decorated, we knew Blue Heron is where we wanted to have our reception and are so happy we did. Both Jen and K made everything so easy for us. They listened to what we wanted, asked questions, and literally took care of everything. It was so nice not worrying about setting up or taking the decorations down. Becca Shipley(bride)1 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 28-09-2019 The problems really began when we went for our tasting for our food selections. That's when I first thought that there was something suspicious about the event planner, who was new to us, Khadar. Initially, we had Mary Jane who we were told was no longer in her previous position, this was not a change we were made aware of until it was too late. In our first meeting after the position change, Khadar made a statement along the lines of \" you can just rip the contract up that you guys made with Mary Jane, because I'll give you a whole new one.\" Anyone who has ever been involved in a contract, knows that when you SIGN a contract it's a legal binding document that must be entirely fulfilled or there is repercussions. Khadar presented to us that \"he could envision our ceremony on top of the patio, and he'd throw in the chairs because he liked us so much\" At that time I stated I was sold on, and contracted, for our ceremony to be held at the natural amphitheater and pond and I did not have any want to change locations from what we signed and agreed to in our contract. It seemed to me as though something was off when he pushed for us to change locations like that. I emailed and called Khadar multiple times with no response. Finally my significant other emailed Khadar stating \" You need to get in touch with us because we have questions.\" khadar immediately responded to him, stating \"please call me\" we called him on speakerphone and Khadar exact words were \"guys we JUST discovered a problem, it appears as though we double booked your ceremony site\". I immediately said to Khadar, \"I'm going to stop you right there, because you asked us when we paid our 60 day payment to move sites and I had indicated then that we were not moving\". After fumbling on his words he asked if there was any way we could think about moving the time of our ceremony, after our guest had already been sent invitations. We agreed AT THE COST OF THE BLUE HERON we would move our time from 4:30pm to 3pm and they would pay our other contracted vendors the difference. Therefore based off the Blue Herons inability to properly plan for multiple weddings on the same site, Khadar quickly agreed, also throwing in that they would provide \"comps including free apps, and the balance of the venue paid in full, ect.\" The day of our wedding Khadar, who was supposed to be streamlining the times in which eveything was supposed to happen, was seen for a total of ten maybe fifteen minutes. We were an entire 10 seats short. The servers were very inefficient in their timing and even very unprofessional in the aspect that they were doing odd things like picking up the drinks off the tables when people got up to dance or use the restroom. The desserts were not served until 8:00/ 8:30pm, when our dinner was at 5:30pm, by that point they had no urge to eat dessert. Then to top off our night, the accommodations that were to be paid out by the Blue Heron, to the DJ service, for adding time and breaking our contract, was denied, despite emails direct from Khadar to the DJ, indicating that the balance would be paid with a check to the company the day of the reception. As well as the request we received prior to us departing our reception, to pay a Montville PD officer that was providing \"security\" even though this $200.00 cost was never outline in our contract. We would not refer any of our friends or family to be wrapped up in the debacle we were caught in with the Blue Heron Reviewed on 22-10-2019
Jacquelynn Anderson(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 23-08-2019 Venue: The Blue Heron Event Center is beautiful! The outdoor ceremony area is an amphitheater leading down to a pond with a fountain. This set-up is very pretty and allows all the guests to easily see the ceremony. The reception area is a large room with windows that leads to an outdoor patio looking towards a wooded park. After the ceremony, we went with our wedding party and our photographer to take some photos in nature. Next door is a brewery for guests to go to after the party as well. One note though - the brewery closes at midnight.Pre-wedding communication: When we reserved the location the contact was very quick to reply to questions and provide information. However, the contact switched to someone else, who was not as responsive to emails and was unorganized when it came to setting up the taste-testing, providing information, updated contracts, and requesting information in a timely manner. We were very annoyed and disappointed, and it did not give us confidence in the week leading up to the wedding.Day of wedding: When the wedding day arrived, the Blue Heron was perfect! All the event coordinators and staff were very organized, set up the ceremony area, all the reception tables, centerpieces, and even party favors, and showed the vendors where to go. The staff was extremely friendly and professional. Also, food was delicious! The Blue Heron allowed us to serve ribeye and calamari (our favorites), which were not on the menu. The crème brulee and ice cream bar were great too! Jen was very accommodating and was constantly hovering around, making sure that all of our needs were taken care of.All in all - a beautiful venue with great caterers. Reviewed on 11-09-2019

He was so easy to work with and a joy to meet with every time we got together. The rest of the staff was so attentive, KIND and so helpful throughout the evening. We dropped things off on Friday and they were set up just like we wanted for the reception. Then they were boxed up for us to pick up the day after. I just walked out after the wedding and didn't have to clean or pack up one thing! That is a gift! Chef Ben is the real deal! He was so accomodating of my changes and add ons to the menu. I will say this, people said it was the \"best food they've ever had at a wedding\". How he can get 200 steaks to be perfectly done at the same time is beyond comprehension. Everything from the apps to the meals was perfection. The venue itself is beautiful and there are so many breathtaking views to get amazing pictures. The brewery being open is a bonus as the after party can continue without people needing to leave the property. I cannot say enough good things about this venue or the people who run it. If you are getting married in the area, this is a top venue for your consideration! Reviewed on 08-04-2019
Laura Zegarac(parent)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 17-02-2019 I recently held my daughter's bridal shower in the newly renovated Heron Room. The venue was absolutely beautiful - it looked and felt brand new and didn't need any additional decor as the space is stunning! The brunch was delicious and the presentation was spectacular! There were approximately 90 guests that were all served custom, made to order omelettes in less than 30 minutes. We received numerous compliments from our guests and we could not have done it without K. He went above and beyond to make sure that this day was perfect for us. He ensured every important detail we discussed was delivered and was always just a text away! The staff was also very accommodating and checked with us periodically to confirm everything was going as planned. I will definitely recommend this venue to anyone looking for an amazing space and delicious food and hope to work with K and the Blue Heron in years to come! Reviewed on 25-02-2019
Rich Galloway(parent)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 01-12-2018 Our daughter’s wedding reception was one week ago at Blue Heron Brewery and Event Center and we couldn’t be more pleased! The event space was transformed beautifully with perfect lighting and was just breathtaking. K, Tanner, Chef Ben and the rest of the team were nothing less than amazing. K’s communication and quick responses during the planning process was incredible and we knew we were in good hands. Tanner ran the reception professionally and graciously, accommodating our every need. And Chef Ben - our guests raved about the hot, delicious, “non-wedding” food that all came out at the same time! I can’t tell you how many people are still talking about it. Not only are they talking about the food but also about the service of the staff and their kindness. As a mother, I couldn’t have asked for a better team to work with to make my daughter’s dream a reality. Thank you all! Reviewed on 08-12-2018

I don't even know where to begin. The beauty of this venue speaks for itself. When we were shopping around to plan our wedding, this was the highest on my list to look at. Once we arrived it literally took my breath away. I turned to my husband and said \"dont take me anywhere else! this is it!\" the fairytale castle like venue I've always dreamed of. Mary Jane contacted me right away and we were on the books. She was very helpful and accommodating to all of my wants and needs. The food was to die for. All of our guests told us it was the most beautiful wedding they have ever been to. And the food was \"probably the best food we have ever eaten\". All of the Blue Heron staff were kind, helpful, and considerate. I couldnt have asked for a better wedding. Thank you, Blue Heron for making my wedding dreams a reality. Reviewed on 24-10-2018
Kristen Albright(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 14-09-2018 The Blue Heron exceeded our expectations on multiple levels! We were married in the outdoor ceremony space and held our reception in the main hall on 9/14.First of all, the outdoor ceremony space is absolutely beautiful. From planning to the actual event itself- the staff was amazing. Many guests raved about their friendliness & attentiveness of the reception staff. Mary Jane was great to work with, any vision you have - she will help you bring it to life. I don't think she knows the word 'no' :), and was very helpful (she's seriously a wedding guru- so knowledgeable) and ensured that we stayed within our budget. While Mary Jane was an absolute pleasure to work with, she has a ton going on, so if you're a hands on bride don't be shy to set up calls with her and keep the lines of communications open to sure nothing is being overlooked. Lastly, the food was very good and presented so beautifully! We opted for food stations (mac & cheese, sliders & anti-pasta bar) instead of a traditional plated meal and everyone loved the options.Mary Jane and the entire team at the Blue Heron made our wedding unforgettable- I can't say enough good things about this venue! All our guests raved about our food and the chef went out of his way to make sure everything was how we wanted it. Servers/Bartenders were phenomenal serving over 200 guests in a timely manner and making sure everyone was happy. Mary Jane did an amazing job making the hall look like what I visioned and even better! My family and I have received and are still receiving many compliments on how beautiful our reception was and how much they enjoyed themselves! Unlike other reviews I enjoyed working with Mary Jane, she is timely with getting back to you but she also has many events to coordinate so it helps if you are organized and stay on top of dates to make sure everything runs smoothly. My advise is this is your day and if you want it how you vision you have to take some initiative to make that happen and not rely on them to do everything. I highly recommend Blue Heron if your vision for your wedding is elegant and romantic! They will make your day perfect! Reviewed on 16-09-2018

Inna Garasimchuk(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 27-05-2018 We worked with Mary Jane at Blue Heron Event center and Taste of Excellence for our wedding. We wanted to have our ceremony and reception at the event center for around 250 guests. She met with me in person numerous times leading up to the wedding in regards to the budget, small details, seating arrangements, and etc. My dream was to not worry about anything before, during and after the wedding and that is what happened. My only tip would be to make sure everything is communicated in email and in person because details can be missed. I was fortunate to live within an hour drive and was able to communicate my vision. Overall, the team at Taste of Excellence catering truly made our wedding day with set up, helpful staff and clean up. Many guests shared that the food was amazing (we had the appetizer display) and raved about the menu. Reviewed on 07-08-2018

While we had hoped we could use the outdoor ampitheater, it just wasn't in Mother Nature's plan. You must have a backup plan if you plan to get married outside. That being said, Mary Jane Ferris and her entire staff did an amazing job of accommodating ALL of our needs. The indoor as well as outdoor venues are gorgeous so not a lot is needed to make it even more spectacular. Everyone enjoyed every appetizer. For dinner, they served 260 people in 9 minutes delicious entrees of Jack Daniels Salmon, Chicken Florentine, and Peppercrusted Beef. Not a bad meal was had. The dessert station of Bananas Foster and Cherries Jubilee was a huge hit. In addition to their desserts, we brought in over 1,000 Italian homemade cookies and they happily and beautifully displayed them all for us. I highly recommmend this venue to everyone! The only things to watch out for is making sure you have all your appointments scheduled, we were told they would reach out and never did and sometimes it took a week to get a response back. Also, we should have had 20 slices of cake leftover (at least the top layer) and they said all the cake was gone. Meredith Kroeger(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 27-01-2018 Okay I will start this review by stating that I had a wonderful wedding day and for many reasons I would recommend the Blue Heron as a wedding venue. The Pros: The food was WONDERFUL! We have received so many compliments, it was delicious and a hot meal for all of our guests, easily the best wedding food we have ever had. The venue was affordable as we had a tighter budget and we were able to get a lot of perks at the Blue Heron we would not have received elsewhere. The venue staff went out of their way to make my family feel special, from complimentary champagne to giving my father his own custom meal, so I really appreciated that!! The inside of the venue is absolutely beautiful and the renovations they have made the outdoors are stunning!! The staff we had the day of the wedding were so on top of things and SO polite! Our bartenders were top notch!!! The Cons: The wedding coordinator that is assigned to you for the Blue Heron, Mary Jane, can be very difficult to work with in a lot of ways. She has a lot of insight into the wedding business so she is always suggesting different things which is great...Until you want something different than what she thinks and then she becomes very rude and difficult. She is extraordinarily difficult to get in contact with. I was a very organized Bride and good thing I was because otherwise the wedding would have been a hot mess! It took MONTHS for us to get our wedding contract squared away due to her not responding in a timely fashion so that was so frustrating. Mary Jane also assured us that everything in the contract would be followed but on the day of the wedding after asking her twice if our cake would be moved to the dance floor after the grand entrance and her telling me TWICE she knew and would take care of it, it wasn't moved and none of our guests saw our cake cutting. In the grand scheme of things it wasn't a big deal but there were just a lot of little things over the year leading up to the wedding and on the day of that made Mary Jane slightly frustrating to work with.Again, I would still recommend the Blue Heron, the pros absolutely outweighed the cons, just be wary that you need to be organized and patient if you want to have your wedding here! If you want great food, a beautiful venue, and a good value for your money, look no further than the Blue Heron! Reviewed on 05-03-2018

s s(wedding party)3 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 27-10-2012 In between 2 and 3 stars. Food at tasting was a lot better than the food at the reception. There were a lot of compliments on the food but also a lot of complaints (steaks served very raw and chicken under cooked). Wait staff was excellent but often yelled at, in front of the guests by the event planner, Mary Jane. Mary Jane was very rude to several people in the immediate family of the bride and also members of the wedding party. Her unprofessional and self serving behavior is unacceptable and directly affected the processes and schedule in play on the wedding day. It is a beautiful venue but in my opinion if you are paying high end prices there should be absolutely no problems on this special day. Reviewed on 13-11-2017
Jarrod Uhrig(groom)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 05-08-2019 We looked at many wedding venue options near Cleveland and ended up choosing the Blue Heron because of a quiet, accessible location, a beautiful building and surrounding location, and many outstanding food options. These were all true during the wedding, itself, and we ended up having a beautiful ceremony. We did receive many compliments on the food as well with many guests saying it was the best food they'd had at a wedding. The only complaint (minor) anyone had with the food was with tuna being cooked medium to medium well as opposed to the mid rare we had requested, although people still enjoyed this as an option. Overall the experience was wonderful with the Blue Heron.Their correspondent, Mary Jane, is unfortunately rude and difficult to work with. She did go out of her way at times to help us with some of the planning. It was nice for her to have many suggestions for our wedding but she was difficult to budge on many of these if we wanted something different. In general it felt like we were struggling against HER wishes for our wedding and that the beautiful day worked despite her. The worst part was her behavior on our wedding day. She was very rude about us being behind in timing with pictures between our ceremony and reception, to the point of her yelling outside while we were with the photographer. In addition, before the reception I needed to text my parents to get me supplies for my diabetes due to a pump malfunction before dinner and she made several rude comments about this aloud in front of guests. Luckily after this she left early and the ceremony went smoothly with her gone.Overall, the wedding day ended up being (nearly) perfect. You can tell by my rating score that I would certainly recommend the Blue Heron for the location and food with the caveat that you may have struggles with Mary Jane. This location and catering really is a treasure and it is certainly worth considering for your own wedding. Reviewed on 05-11-2017
C S(bride)3 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 24-06-2017 The Venue is beautiful inside and out. The wait staff should receive high compliments- they were polite, timely, accomodating and the food was absolutely delicious. Mary Jane was difficult to work with- accomodating at times which was outweighed by some serious frustrations. On several calls to discuss logistics with her it was very apparent she hadn't read the emails with infromation I had sent regarding the day. Despite going over the schedule several times we were way behind schedule at the reception, the only reason it was rectified was because the groom looked at his watch and realized how late it had gotten. No ownership was taken for this mistake. The bathrooms flooded at the very beginning of the reception, which of course was frustrating. Luckily there other facilities on site that the guests could use, unfortunately it was through some construction. Imagine the grandmas walking through rubble. What was particularly annoying was that the 'out of order' signs were still up at the end of the night, when we were told the bathrooms had been fixed for awhile... Guests were going to bathrooms further away for no reason. They did offer some compensation for the inconvenience which was appreciated. As mentioned the venue is beautiful, a lot of great space to take pictures and for guests to enjoy the scenery outside. Our guests couldn't say enough good things about the food and the staff, again they should be complimented! While there are many pros to this venue, for me they are outweighed by the frustrations of the management from planning through the end of the reception. Reviewed on 08-09-2017
Candace Butler(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 03-11-2018 From the very beginning, our experience with A Taste of Excellence was rocky. Our coordinator, Mary Jane, was bossy, pushy, and over the top. I was unable to express my vision and desires for mine and my then fiance's special day. After one too many details had been missed in the planning stages, and a heated confrontation from our coordinator at my tasting, I requested a new event coordinator. The company graciously allowed Karen to step and take it from there. Karen is the Catering Manager, but she was detail oriented and wise with expert advice. She allowed me to share my vision and explained ways of how we might obtain it. However, on one of our touch-base phone calls, just 7 days before our wedding, she slipped that the event center's exterior was under \"slight construction.\" Because we chose this venue SOLELY because of it's beautiful exterior and interior photo opportunities, I took it upon myself to see to what extent the venue was \"under construction.\" The whole exterior portion that I was planning on having my wedding photos and cocktail our was uprooted. Nothing but mounds of mud, dirt, and no green. I bawled. How could this be allowed? No notice. I had no clue. I spoke with the owner Bill and shared my concern. He told me to grab a shovel and boots if I wanted it done in time for my wedding. Fortunately, some grass and flowers were put in before the wedding-- but the soon to be arboretum was nothing but dirt and cement blocks for our wedding day and I had to consider backup photo opportunities.Long story short, this may be a highly sought after venue one day. But the management and staff really need to change some things in the areas of communications, public relations, and customer service. I trusted the most important day of my life to these people. It's a big commitment. And it's a nightmare when you're let down. If you're a bride that's VERY detail oriented, can stay on top of your vendors, and get everything in writing, this is still a decent venue for the cost. Reviewed on 22-08-2017

Lauren Childs(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 12-05-2017 Don't get me wrong, my wedding at The Blue Heron was absolutely beautiful and amazing, all of our guests were blown away (which is the sole reason for 4 stars) - but only because the venue is naturally beautiful and because of all the hard work myself, my family and friends did to get ready - no thanks to the staff or our event coordinator Mary Jane. We had our wedding on a Friday (to save a couple $$) so we expected to decorate Thursday since no one was using it - we were kicked out at 7 and told that we could come back at 1:30 to finish decorating... uhh sorry but we kind of had a wedding to get ready for i.e. hair, makeup, getting dressed, pictures! So that was awkward asking the people who weren't IN the wedding to go to our venue to finish decorating. Then there's the fact that the pond on the side of the building I planned on using for the group photos location was UNDER CONSTRUCTION without so little as a heads-up. And let's not even talk about how Mary Jane lost our (unsigned) marriage license then mailed it to us 2000 miles away a month later. You have an absolutely beautiful, to-die-for location on your hands... you need to get your event management and communication skills figured out so that future brides don't go through the same stress and frustration that I went through.
