The Club at UK's Spindletop Hall Reviews
Marissa Brandon(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 05-11-2022 When we were looking at venues, Spindletop was an easy decision. My husband spent much of his childhood there and it had everything we wanted for our wedding! Rebecca, our coordinator, was fabulous to work with the whole process and she made the day run so smoothly! It’s in a perfect location and absolutely stunning! Reviewed on 12-11-2022
Katie Clark(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 09-10-2021 Our wedding day at Spindletop was nothing short of spectacular. From the in room buffet for the bridesmaids, to the plentiful and heavenly passed appetizers during cocktail hour, the food and service was wonderful. The property itself is obviously gorgeous and our pictures are straight out of a fairytale. Our guests delighted in exploring the house when they needed a break from dancing. Amberly made sure our cake toppers, table numbers, etc. made it to their destination and took care of all vendor coordination on our wedding day. I assume she shielded me from any mishaps that may have occurred, since I still haven't heard of any! It was a pleasure working with Amberly and Spindletop every step of the way. Ashley Christian(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 21-04-2018 I chose to have my wedding ceremony and reception at Spindletop in April, and it was absolutely one of the best decisions we made. Caitlin, one of the wedding coordinators, was such a dream to work with. She was incredibly punctual in replying to my emails, and was always willing to give guidance or answer any questions I needed. Spindletop Hall has a history that speaks for itself, and the decor is breathtaking and yet not overwhelming. My entire wedding day went so smoothly thanks to Caitlin, Elizabeth, Tyler, and all the other staff at the club. Every staff member was polite and attentive to the guests, and I had multiple people later say how impressed they were with the staff. And last, but certainly not least, the food was incredibly delicious! We were so impressed with the quality and the amount of food we were able to serve our guests. I would recommend this venue over and over again! Reviewed on 08-05-2018
Paul Smith(groom)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 12-08-2017 Spindletop Hall was an amazing place for our wedding and reception. The staff were helpful and very flexible to see that our needs were met. The location was stunning. We would definitely recommend this place to others! Reviewed on 23-10-2017
Madeleine Morey(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 01-10-2016 If you are looking for a vintage but elegant venue with history and charm, look no further! Spindletop is absolutely gorgeous, from the moment you enter into the property with the tree-lined drive, to the spiral staircase on either side of the foyer; there is nothing to hide and really no need for excessive decorations. My wedding, on 10/01/16, was filled with little details; and the wedding coordinator, Caitlin, was the best at making sure every detail was executed exactly how I wanted it. I highly recommend it -great food, service, & venue. Reviewed on 18-11-2016
Kimberly Mulligan(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 15-10-2016 This is a beautiful, romantic venue. If you are looking for something formal with a vintage feel, this is it. It was absolutely a magical place to get married. I heard so many compliments about the food and the staff. Our wedding coordinator was Allison and she really helped a lot the day-of. When my matron of honor went into labor 15 minutes before the ceremony, Allison didn't miss a beat and changed the processional seamlessly. I highly recommend this venue! Reviewed on 18-10-2016
Sarah Townzen(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 04-06-2016 As a Lexington native, I always thought Spindletop would be a lovely place to get married. Now I can say that it truly is. I love it's classic charm and scenic views of neighboring horse farms, and our guests did too. Spindletop has wedding coordinators on staff to handle the details. We had Caitlin Gilliam, who really went above and beyond for us. She was organized and professional throughout the planning process. I really wanted our wedding to be on the back lawn of Spindletop, but it rained most of that day. We had our Plan B all set when, fifteen minutes before the ceremony, the sun came out! Caitlin had the staff rearrange everything so our wedding could be outside and we were able to start right on schedule. Spindletop also has an in house chef and catering staff, which saved us from booking a caterer separately. More importantly, the food was delicious! They even arranged for special fries and chicken finger meals for our youngest guests. I would highly recommend this venue for a wedding and/or reception. As a final note, I will point out that membership in the club is required in order to have your wedding there, but it is affordable and comes with lots of nice perks too. Reviewed on 18-06-2016
Robert Hieronymus(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 12-09-2015 Before we got married, my boyfriend (now my husband) went to a wedding reception here. The atmosphere was perfect, we both decided:\r\r1. This was the best wedding reception we had attended thus far, and \r2. If we ended up getting married, we both wanted to have a wedding reception like this one. \r\rAs fate would have it, he proposed, and we started looking at wedding venues. It just so happened that this venue had a date available, so we chose it. In retrospect, we could have definitely saved a lot of money somewhere else, but to us, the money was worth it. Just for the reception, it was more expensive than we thought, but that also included catering through their venue (required), a 4 hour premium bar, a champagne toast, services fees included for the bartenders/waiters, etc., and included access of the bridal/groom suites for getting ready during the day, and included access of the wedding ceremony area outside. \r\rIt does not include:\rtablecloths and chairs for outside (you can rent them through their vendors), cake (must order yourself), DJ, hair/make-up, photo/video, or set up for outside ceremony (unless it's chair setup). \r\rHowever, with Spindletop, you also get a personalized day-of-coordinator, and it is also well-worth the cost because of this. We worked with Heather, and because of her, the wedding rehearsal and the day of went smoother than I could have ever imagined. It was a perfect day, ceremony, reception, and everyone complimented us on the atmosphere, and that it was the best wedding they had been to. If I could repeat what we had done, I don't think I would have changed a thing. Well worth it :) Reviewed on 11-11-2015
Jessica Roberts(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 25-07-2015 We loved having our wedding at Spindletop. The staff was excellent and Heather was awesome to work with. Elizabeth (bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 11-10-2014 Spindletop Hall is a country club owned by the University of Kentucky. It is an old mansion that is just gorgeous and ritzy on the inside. Heather is the event planner who will help you with anything you need for the wedding day. The food they provide here is out of this world, and definitely worth the money. It is a little pricey, but I had a somewhat small wedding so it wasn't terrible I don't think. Service is great, everyone is so nice and proper. Reviewed on 06-11-2014
Marguerite Duck(bride)2 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 29-06-2013 We were so excited to book Spindletop Hall as our venue. We booked more than one year out, as our band had to be booked far in advance. \r\rWhen we first booked with Spindletop the event planner was an older lady who was, quite frankly, lacking in any personality and very difficult to get in touch with. Half way through our wedding planning we were notified that this particular employ had been planning to retire for a long time, and they \"forgot to notify us sooner.\" The new event planner, Heather, is great. She is on top of things, detail oriented, friendly, and knows what she is doing. However, the general manager and other staff are not as good as Heather. The second year of our planning the manager tried to raise our prices 11%, even though we signed a contract with the previous year's prices. The wedding contract is terribly written and after having two attorneys review it they agreed that the contract needs some serious revision. After some negotiation we settled on a 5% price increase, which is vaguely addressed in the contract. Additionally, I was told when we booked that our food minimum for the club would be met by our 10k plus wedding reception fees, but then I did receive a bill for 55$ stating we did not meet our minimums. When I emailed the membership employee and the general manager, they did not honor what the membership employee told me when we booked in 2012. \r\rAt the reception we gave mini bottles as our favor. I previously cleared this with the event planner, and she said it was fine. I still have the email. Of course, the day after the wedding, many guests pulled me and my family aside to let us know that the wait staff had \"confiscated\" or \"cleared away\" many of the bottles. And of course, when I addressed this with the event planner, it was brushed off saying I must have misunderstood.\r\rOverall, there were many little annoyances. However, on the day of, Heather and the wait staff pulled through. I did try to change venues about six months prior to our wedding, but all of the other choices were booked. Again, the day of, minus the favor incident, could not have run smoother; the process leading up to our reception, though, made me wish I would have never booked with Spindletop despite our family memories and connections.
