The Commons 1854: Event Venue Reviews

We were just married at the The Commons 1854 in early September and we couldn’t be happier with how our ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception went! The entire staff was helpful and communicative throughout the planning process and on the day of the wedding. Paige was our coordinator and she went above and beyond to make sure that my husband and I had the best day. The food was phenomenal and all our guests raved about it. We felt that all of our food allergies and intolerances were handled with care. The drinks were also delicious! My husband and I were very happy with this venue, and we highly recommend it to anyone looking for a beautiful and stress free wedding day! Reviewed on 11-09-2023

When we started the process of looking at wedding venues, we knew that The Commons HAD to be on our list of venues to tour after reading so many rave reviews and seeing the many photos from past weddings. After touring the venue and speaking with Paige from The Commons, we realized that the reviews and the pictures did not do the venue justice and we knew right away that this was the right place to have our wedding. After booking with The Commons, we were constantly reassured that we had made the right choice throughout the entirety of our planning process.Every question we had prior to the wedding was answered promptly and with great detail and we were pleased to receive phone check-ins just to see if we had any questions/needed any assistance. When it came time for the testing, we were blown away by the food offered, as well as by the kindness we were met with by all staff present. As we scheduled our final details meeting with Maura at the end of our tasting, we were so happy to have found such a wonderful support in our day-of coordinator who reassured us that everything would be \"just beautiful\".On the day of the wedding itself, we found our guests, and ourselves, to be absolutely speechless by the service that was provided by staff at The Commons. From waters for the bridal party, to making sure that one of our groomsmen made it upstairs safely while on crutches, we remained happy. One thing that truly was the cherry on top for our pick in venue was when the bride's brother had left prior to their special dance and our day-of coordinator, Paige, offered to go and get him herself while the bride was saying she would skip her dance. Paige made sure we were supported in that moment, that we were comfortable, and that the bride got her special dance. The physical beauty of The Commons 1854 is not the selling point for this place; don't get me wrong, it's truly a fairytale venue with crystal chandeliers and white marble. The true beauty of The Commons is the staff who work hard to bring your vision to life and work to make sure that your wedding day is stress free. Fairytale + supportive and fun staff = the PERFECT venue! Reviewed on 01-07-2023

The Commons 1854 was the perfect wedding venue for us. It had everything: A beautiful outdoor ceremony space with an exceptional indoor alternative, a marble cocktail hour area that fit our ~150 guests perfectly and not crowded, and a beautiful ballroom where the reception takes place. Paige was very communicative and responsive whenever we reached out and was super helpful in the weeks leading up to the wedding. We were showered with compliments all night on the appetizers and meals, which are all cooked in-house. The Commons 1854 made the planning process that much easier with all it has to offer. We can't recommend highly enough! Reviewed on 22-06-2023
Jenny Farrell(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 19-11-2022 A dream come true wedding venueThe Commons 1854 was absolute perfection, professionalism and efficiency on our wedding day. From the minute we visited the venue, we knew it had everything you could ever want for your big day with a classy, elegant marble cocktail area, outdoor garden for beautiful photos and a ballroom reception area that has a stage for a band, large dance floor and even a balcony for a rustic barn feeling. The entire Commons team and our wedding coordinator Maura was absolutely incredible to work with and made our wedding day run so smoothly and effortlessly from start to finish. Maura is a no-nonsense gal and holds her staff to high standards and aims for greatness which are definitely the qualities you want of someone overseeing your wedding. She was so on top of everything and did a great job making sure we had everything we needed while still corralling all the guests and managing her staff. It was an impressive feat to watch. We had full and complete faith in her that everything would be perfect and she was a big reason it was the best night of our lives! Maura had so many helpful hints for the day of the wedding having been in the industry for so long for where the bridal party should stand for photos, lighting, signs, etc. At the end of the night she did a great job of making sure everything was wrapped up and all the guests were safely on the bus. She is such a consummate professional in everything she does and takes such pride in making sure each couple enjoys their special day.The Commons is a beautiful venue but their service and food cannot be stressed enough. So many of our guests have complimented us on the quality of the food at the Commons, a few even saying it was the best food they had ever had at a wedding and we couldn’t agree more. The coconut shrimp that was part of their passed appetizers was to die for and the entrée size and quality could not be beat. My husband and I both cleaned our plates while still leaving room for the incredible ice cream sundae bar (one of our guests had 3 bowls of the ice cream it was that good). One thing Maura recommended during our food tasting for a signature drink was the Commons signature fall sangria. If you are getting married in the fall or winter, you have to have this at your wedding as so many of our guests complimented how delicious it was and we even had family members request the recipe so they could make it for Thanksgiving and Christmas. My husband and I haven’t stopped talking about how magical the day really was and The Commons will always hold a special place in our hearts. We are so happy we chose The Commons and highly recommend. Reviewed on 19-02-2023

From the marble, to the fireplaces, to the ballroom, to the garden our wedding dreams came to life before our eyes. Maura, our day of coordinator, was nothing short of perfection. “On top of it” doesn’t even cut it, this woman was impeccable. She kept us on track, realistic and helped our vision come to life. Chris and Alexa Macken(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 09-10-2022 We had our ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception at The Commons 1854 in October, and the entire experience was exceptional. Our outdoor ceremony knocked our guests’ socks off. The burnt orange, red, and yellow foliage, the pergola, the hydrangea-lined gate and arch, the grandness of the stark white building itself, it was incredibly picturesque. The venue itself is the perfect blend of New England charm and European opulence… marble, columns, statues, chandeliers. The food and drinks were quite frankly too good for a wedding. Typically, wedding food is unremarkable, but this is not the case for The Commons 1854. When we booked with The Commons, we kept hearing about the food being outstanding, and the rumors were true. We have been getting many, many, many unprompted compliments about how delicious the food was - some saying “the best wedding food they’ve ever had!” It seemed that a place like The Commons 1854 with its beauty and culinary offerings was too good to be true… but it was REAL! Now, let’s talk about the service. It matched the magnificence of The Commons 1854 itself. We worked mainly with Giana and Maura, and they are Pros!!!! Throughout the entire wedding planning process, whenever we had a question or concern, they were very responsive and immediately put as at ease each time. The wedding day was a smashing success mainly because of Maura and her team's incredible expertise. Maura runs a tight ship, and kept our ginormous bridal party in order… everyone was where they needed to be and everything ran like clockwork. Not only that, but Maura couldn’t have been kinder. She bent over backwards to make everything run smoothly and truly made us feel that we were in the best hands. She gave us great advice about all things wedding related, and was constantly saying “Don’t worry! We’ll take care of it!”, and she even helped me with my bustle the day of! Way above the call of duty! Giana who we met on our initial tour of The Commons 1854 couldn't have been sweeter - answering every silly question we had, joking with us, being incredibly helpful in every way. Kim the beverage manager was even trialing different cocktail experiments with us during our tasting to make sure we had the perfect his & her signature drinks! My husband and I cannot believe how lucky we were to have found The Commons 1854 and the whole team. It is a Massachusetts gem. Aesthetic, food and beverage, service, convenience of having everything in one place…. You cannot go wrong. 10/10 in every category. It’s miraculous how absolutely perfect our wedding day was. We can’t believe we’re saying this unironically, but it was truly the wedding of our dreams. Thank you to the whole Commons 1854 team!!! Reviewed on 07-12-2022
Jessica Sellountos(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 26-06-2022 The Commons 1854 made our dreams come true. They were organized, professional, and super helpful. We had a super elegant wedding and the food was amazing. They let us bring in non-alcoholic drinks for our guests, and walked us through every stage of the process. Details like choosing our table seat placements were super easy to do, and we made many changes because of Covid. Maura especially was so helpful. She made sure everything ran on time and smoothly. She helped me with my bustle and made sure me and my husband had drinks and food, and had picture perfect memories. She even calmed down my Dad who was having a tiff, and provided much needed emotional support to us. It was like having a best friend at the wedding reception. The space was beautiful and impeccably dressed up. The space also provided a perfect backdrop for our photos, especially the outside area. They accommodated all our vendors and made the whole night perfect. We highly recommend The Commons 1854 for your dream wedding! Reviewed on 17-11-2022
Gillian Piccoli(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 15-10-2022 I’m not even sure where to begin, because the commons team made sure it was actually the best day of our lives. The first moment we walked into the venue, we saw how stunning all the features were. From the gorgeous marble floors and fire places, to the outside patio, to the amazing ball-room floor it makes for the perfect venue. The commons itself even made for such a dreamy back drop in our pictures. Right from the start Maura, Gianna, and kristi made sure we were set up for success with a written out/planned timeline for all elements of the wedding. They provided a rockstar group of recommended vendors, and they truly did not disappoint. Quick shoutout to levitate weddings and Karla Cassidy florals for bringing class and excitement to the venue. On the wedding day, I wasn’t sure what to expect in terms of staff involvement. And when I say Maura and her amazing staff were truly the best, they literally didn’t miss a beat. From helping me out of transportation in my ball gown, to facilitating pictures, to getting the wedding party ready to get introduced, serving meals, making sure kris and I sufficiently ate we couldn’t have done it without her. In terms of food and drinks, we had so many guests coming up to us telling us how delicious their meals were. I can truly attest to this as well as the food was unbelievably tasty and the bar service was impeccable. The DJ kept everyone on the dance floor and the commons staff even moved some tables out of the way to make even more space for people to dance. I truly have only positive comments to say about this venue and hope that other people get to experience the high level of professionalism and class that we also had the pleasure of experiencing. The Commons 1854 staff are truly wonderful, amazing, supportive, organized people who made our wedding planning and wedding day as stress-free as possible. We worked with Maura throughout the planning process, and she helped us figure out what was needed as we were quite clueless in planning a wedding. She was patient and knew all of the right things to say and ask to help us organize ourselves and reassure us throughout the entire process. On the day of our wedding, when Maura was unfortunately unable to make it due to illness, Gianna stepped in seamlessly to coordinate everything for the day. Gianna made it so easy, I didn't even have to think! She helped make sure we and our other vendors stayed on track as far as timeline, and took incredible care of our bridal party and families to ensure it was the most perfect and fun day possible. She sent me pictures the next day as we wait for our photographer's photos, which was such a lovely and thoughtful touch. She gave us time to take in the magic of the day and showed us details that we may have otherwise been too busy to notice. She worked so hard to ensure we had the most perfect day, and we appreciate her so much. Our families were even blown away by her and her efforts. The other staff were incredible as well, and made sure we had enough to eat and drink, checked in with us, and ensured that our event was fun for all. Multiple guests commented on how much they loved the food and how attentive the staff was throughout the evening. Maura was our day of coordinator and we cannot say enough positive things about her and her ability to keep everything running smoothly. She was always right there when we needed her, from helping with a very difficult bustle, fixing my dress when it was stepped on, and getting a stain out of my husband’s shirt when somebody spilled their drink on him. She really was wonderful and went above and beyond our expectations. The entire team at The Commons made the planning process easy, despite having to postpone our wedding twice due to covid. Danielle McDonough(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 22-04-2022 I literally cannot say enough good things about the Commons. We started on our wedding planning journey back in 2019, and the Commons was the first venue we visited. Even after visiting several other beautiful venues, none gave us the feeling that we got when we went to the Commons and met the amazing team there. Fast forward, and COVID hit. The team at the Commons was constantly updating us on what was going on, and we made the difficult decision to postpone, which they were completely accommodating of. The Commons then offered us a micro-ceremony option on our original wedding date (10/23/20) which was beautiful- I wrote an earlier review on that one! We then postponed our big reception until April 2022. Everything was absolutely beautiful- we worked with both Gianna and Paige, both of whom are simultaneously the sweetest and most efficient wedding planners you will ever encounter. The day of our wedding was exactly as we imagined and they both made sure that every little thing was going the way we wanted it to. Paige made sure everyone in our bridal party was where they were supposed to be and everything ran without a hitch. The food at the Commons is FANTASTIC. I have never had better food at a wedding and had several guests tell us the same thing after the fact. To sum up- the venue is beautiful, the food is the best you will ever have at a wedding, but what really puts the Commons over the top is the people you will work with. At other venues, I felt like we were just another couple and that the people could care less about us. The Commons team makes you feel like family from the beginning to the end, and even after. You will never regret choosing them for your special day. Reviewed on 08-06-2022

Having hosted many events over the years, I'm able to compare my experience apples to apples and this Venue has it all. The space is divine, every corner sparkles and it is so elegant and versatile, it really saves on decor because you do not need much. Then there is the food, the wonderful, amazing, superbly prepared and presented with complex flavor profiles that shouldn't exist in catered events but only the finest restaurants. The hors d'oeuvres were just delightful and there were sooo many! The food was everywhere which was important to me, I decided to add a stationary food table which was a great decision because the presentation was something you would see at the Ritz Carlton for a Sunday brunch...GORGEOUS!!! The meal couldn't have been better. The filet and chicken were as you would find at a high-end steak house and the salmon was prepared to perfection. Katie Schmitt(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 22-10-2021 The Commons 1854 was an absolute dream to work with, with a special shout out to Gianna and Paige. Our journey with them started in 2018 where we planned an April 2020 wedding. After the pandemic began, our April 2020 wedding turned into a November 2020 wedding, and then turned into an October 2021 wedding. Having to reschedule an entire wedding a month before it was supposed to happen was emotionally draining, but the Commons made it so easy for us to pick a new date. We truly thought the excitement we initially had about a wedding would never return, and thought it would be impossible to still have the perfect day we had been waiting for—boy, were we wrong! The Commons team knows their stuff—they know how to help you plan, whether you’re more of a DIY-er or want a lot of assistance. They know the right questions to ask to make sure your special day is truly the celebration you want it to be. While I consider myself a heavy planner, I was thrilled at the idea of being able to let them take the wheel when it got to our wedding day, and to be able to sit back and enjoy. Whether you are more traditional or looking to re-envision what a wedding can be, they are there to support you in bringing that vision to life. I have to take a moment to also talk about the food. THE FOOD. Everyone can think of a wedding they’ve been to where the food just wasn’t very good. Being a couple that loves to eat, tasty food was really important to us. We asked the Commons to help us with a custom menu—breakfast for dinner—and they knocked it out of the park. Our guests were absolutely floored over the mini quiches and chicken and waffles during cocktail hour (I wish I could have eaten 100) and the full breakfast buffet for dinner (I also wish I could have eaten 100 slices of the maple glazed bacon). The venue itself is beautiful—it is stunning enough that you need very minimal decorations, as all spaces really speak for themselves. Our guests talked about how they loved having the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception all within just a few feet of another. The day of our wedding was magical—we literally could not stop crying. It’s the little things that at the end of the day, make a big difference. For example, when one of our vendors didn’t show up, their team called to ensure that we still got the items we had rented from the company. After our ceremony, there was a big tray of appetizers and two drinks waiting for us, so that we could enjoy a quiet moment together before joining cocktail hour. They plated our food for us, and made sure that we were having the time of our lives the entire night. You can tell the entire team (from the coordinators, to the bar staff, to the chefs) loves their jobs. Every single person there added something special. You can feel genuine excitement radiating from them. Every day since our wedding my husband and I have been talking about how we wish we could do the day all over again, and that there is not one thing we would change. If you’re looking for a gorgeous venue with incredible food and staff who want to give you the best day possible, look no further than the Commons 1854. Reviewed on 09-11-2021

I loved Commons from the minute we saw it on our venue tour, and it broke my heart to make the switch (we went to NH for our wedding with their fewer restrictions and the uncertainty in Mass). With the COVID-19 pandemic occurring, like many couples, our plans changed drastically. With such a stressful situation happening, the team at the Commons, specifically Gianna and Kristi, were absolutely fantastic. Every email or scheduled phone call with them put us at such ease. We ended up having a micro-ceremony on our original wedding date in October-with just immediate family in attendance- and have plans to celebrate with all our friends in family at the Commons once the pandemic passes. I cannot say enough about what a special day it was for my husband and I and are families. We worked with Gianna on the wedding day and she had every detail down just perfectly so that I had almost zero stress. The food was amazing- my family can be picky, but everyone raved about it! The staff could not have been more warm, helpful and kind. My dad is disabled and we needed to use the chairlift to get to the second floor and everyone at the Commons helped out and made him comfortable. I wish I could give so much more than 5 stars, but am also so excited to be able to go back and share the experience again when we renew our vows and are able to celebrate with all our loved ones. We really don't think we can put into words the job the commons 1854 did! From the moment we started planning to the moment the send off everything was perfect! We first emailed them to plan a already planned wedding but covid had other plans for us. However not all things are bad if we didn't change our date we would have never found this place. From the moment we meet with Gianna and Zoe, who were our coordinators, they were amazing! Letting us plan everything the way we wanted it, yet also guiding us in the right direction. They were incredibly fast through email to respond to us with all our questions. Also their suggestions on appetizers we amazing!! When it comes to the actual day we can not say enough about the staff. Zoe was there at every moment and it felt like she never left for a second. She’s there to ask if we needed anything and even brought us drinks when the wait staff had their hands full. Gianna was also amazing and even meet me there early to put the cake into the fridge what a life saver. She even removed some bikers who were gonna ruin the perfect shot. I mean what else can we say, the food was amazing, the service was amazing, the atmosphere was beautiful. Everything was honestly perfect!!Not a day goes by that days doesn’t play in my head and how fun and amazing it was. We pulled off a incredible COVID wedding mask and all. Christopher Falcos(groom)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 19-07-2019 I must start out saying that The Commons was simply the best. We went through probably 20 places before we visited The Commons and as soon as we left, we knew that was the place we had to choose. The venue was the perfect balance of beauty, class and functionality, and Kristi really topped it off. She just had such a happy and bubbly personality that she got us excited about everything again (again this was the last of like 20 places, so we were exhausted at this point). She went over all the different options and made everything easy to understand. We knew we had the right place, but we didn’t REALLY know until the actual wedding day.Our wedding took place on the hottest and most humid day in July. As soon as we arrived Gianna was there ready to take care of us. She got us cold drinks and food as quickly as we asked, and she even got us and the wedding party cool damp towelettes to help keep us cool which really helped when we were taking pictures outside. And I really must emphasize that every one of the staff was amazing. They were all so nice and friendly and funny so when you asked for anything it was almost as if you were asking a good friend to get you something. And the real testament of how great this place is that even now, 3 weeks later, we have family and friends telling us how great everything was at the venue. Everyone raved about how great the food was, how great the staff were and how beautiful everything was. This place is by far the best place for a wedding.*Wedding date was 7/20/19 but the review wont let me chose that date!* Reviewed on 06-08-2019

We booked our wedding two years in advance, and it was the only venue we saw. I actually brought my fiancé there and told him I hope you love it as much as I do because this is where I’ve always seen my wedding. He instantly fell in love with it like I knew he would! At that point I had only known or seen The Commons 1854 from social media, and I didn’t think I could fall anymore in love with it, but I did! From the moment I started emailing them, I felt like I was talking to family. They were just as happy as we were about our engagement, wedding plans, and were always there when we needed help. They answered what felt like a millions questions we had, and we never felt like a bother to them. There was never a second we felt like just another wedding. Even with a long engagement, someone was always checking in with us every few months to see how the wedding planning was going. Towards the end of the process, I had many changes. From accidentally providing wrong meal numbers, to adding someone two days before the wedding, and once again they worked with us with pleasure! Our wedding coordinator was Gianna, and I’m going to try my best to condense the novel we could write about her. She is simply the most calmest and sweetest person. The job as a wedding coordinator was made for her! We couldn’t have asked for a better person to organize/coordinate the process and be there for us along the way and the day of our wedding. The day of the wedding was so smooth and flawless. When we arrived, Gianna was there to welcome us, and she made us feel like royals! I had a stressful moment, and with her pep talk she brought me back to life. When we walked into The Commons 1854, every dream I ever had about our wedding was staring at me. Everything was simply beautiful and breathtaking! Gianna checked on us all night. She was constantly bringing us water, and filling our hands with drinks when necessary. We seriously can go on and on about her! She brought our every vision I had! The FOOD! Wow! When I talked to friends and family after the wedding, the common thing brought up was the food. From the hors d’oeuvres, (especially the mango brie tartlet!) to the entrees everything was outstandingly delicious! We added the mini pastries, and Black Tie Espresso and both were amazing! The Salted Caramel Cappuccino, my favorite! We even left with the left over pastries we were able to enjoy the next day! The wait staff was exceptional. Everything flowed perfectly with meal servings, and we thank them for that! We survived the saying “5 things always go wrong on your wedding day” and we thank the entire Commons team for that! P-e-r-f-e-c-t with a capital P, and I mean that from the bottom of my soul. Not only are the Martino's a lovely family to work with, they are also backed by an amazing crew of chefs, coordinators, and caterers, all dedicated to making your big day, truly, the BEST day. We could not have asked for a better venue, a better family, and a better team to bring our dream to life. From the stunning outdoor garden, to the sleek and polished cocktail room, to the grand ballroom, golden, sparkling, and beautiful-- The Commons 1854 is a stunning venue. But the people behind it are what truly make this venue special. Kristi was the most attentive coordinator! She was constantly providing for us, checking up on us, helping us keep things moving, assisting us when we needed it, making sure we were eating and staying sane amongst all the glorious chaos. Kristi was a fabulous hostess and really went above and beyond to make sure my husband, our bridal party, our family, and our guests were taken care of. Truly, the entire family is so incredibly kind, caring, attentive, and flexible. I really don't have the words to do my feelings about the Martino family justice. We love you guys so much.Furthermore, sometimes, the venue itself can be outstanding, but the food might be so-so. I know i've personally been to a few weddings were the food was downright unimpressive. NOT with the Martinos! This family prides themselves on their cooking, traveling to Europe to learn from world class chefs. Let me tell you, it really shows in the food! Not only do you get an incredible venue, you get 5 star chefs catering your day just the way you like it! Eveything was so darn delicious. From our cocktail hour appetizers (coconut shrimp, mango brie tartlets, grilled cheese and tomato soup shooters-- need I say more?!), to the main course (prime rib, roasted turkey, seasoned vegetables, greek pasta salad, quinoa salad, pasta three ways), to late night snacks (pizza and french fries, duh!), to our very own gelato sundae bar featuring six flavors--- our guests were blown away by the delectable quality of the food. I find myself craving the food we had that night even today!Truthfully, I could go on and on about how much I love this venue, the family behind it, and the time and attention they pour into every single couple they encounter. Lynda Robinson(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 20-10-2018 My husband and I had our reception here last week (10/20/18) and I have to say; Gianna is absolutely incredible. She became our main coordinator throughout the planning process (sometimes you work with everyone, and everyone was amazing). We met with Gianna most frequently because my husband and I like face-to-face meetings, and she was more than happy to accommodate; even if the meeting really could have been over the phone or via email. She really went above and beyond with every detail with us and making sure we were comfortable with our choices, and even when we had several last minute changes. We had multiple guest add-ons and deletions less than a week, and even the night before/morning of our wedding day and The Commons was so accommodating. They never once made us feel like an annoyance and inconvenience, even though we knew these changes must be irritating (they were annoying to us!) Gianna's excitement for our day was infectious and her help placing our decorations throughout the venue was beyond our wildest expectations. Her thoughtfulness knows no bounds. We had a Harry Potter themed cocktail hour/reception, and had included some costume Potter eyeglasses for decorations -- when we pulled up after our ceremony, the staff that greeted guests at the door were wearing them. That was such a sweet, kind, and thoughtful gesture. A big thank you to the good sports that were wearing them as well. The wait staff were amazing as well, attentive and unobtrusive. And also didn't take mine or my husbands plates! That way we could still pick at our meals throughout the night. The food was so good, between apps and dinner there wasn't a bad dish in the bunch. The one downside is that the cost of the food tasting is not included, so be prepared to shell out about $50/person, but you get good sized portions to try, definitely do the tasting! Honestly I could go on and on about how wonderful this venue and the staff is. The last two things I will recommend spending the extra money on are definitely the Black Tie Espresso service and the gelato bar. They were a HUGE hit and just really really high quality. So yummy!!!! Reviewed on 29-10-2018
Leah Hoyland(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 06-10-2018 I could not have dreamt of a more perfect day for my wedding day. Our coordinator, Maura, kept telling us that she did not want us to worry about anything except to have fun and enjoy our wedding day and this was beautifully executed. Also, the food was absolutely amazing! It was so delicious that we have gotten so many compliments from our guest for the next few weeks following the wedding... even the ones considered foodies were raving about how delicious it tasted. You would think by choosing a venue where they really know what they are doing that you would just be another \"wedding\" that is not the case at all. The venue itself is beautiful, and part of what attracted us was that we were worried we wouldn't have a lot of time to plan design details and wanted a space that could stand alone. The building has a lot of character, and the stage up front and balcony in the back (that seated ~40 of our guests) set the layout apart from other venues. They also have these big beautiful windows and the light floods in in the day time, which is what sold us on an indoor ceremony. They also have a great outdoor space, which others have used for ceremonies, but that we used for cocktail hour overflow. The outdoor setting is lovely for photos too. We also loved that they were very much a one stop shop. The food was fantastic; they have beautiful linens/tables/chairs that work with the spaceAnd last, but absolutely not least, we cannot say enough about The Commons 1854 team. We adore them, and this was the differentiator for us. From the initial meetings with Kristi and Gianna, to our wedding day coordinated by Maura, and everything in between, we cannot imagine having worked with anyone else. The team shepherded us through the whole planning process, made sure we stayed on track (and that we weren't stressed), and were an absolute pleasure to work with. They are thoughtful, warm, and friendly; they truly know their craft, and they get the job done. Maura, our wonderful coordinator, anticipated every detail and every possible contingency; we knew we were in good hands with her. Gianna and staff were amazing throughout the entire wedding process, to the point that our guests were telling us that they have never seen service of that caliber at a wedding before. On top of the great service, we had guests tell us that the food was the best that they have ever had at a wedding (we served the filet and salmon). The portions, timing of each course, and the presentation were all above and beyond expectations. The space itself is a perfect mix of character and class, where you can customize your wedding to whatever aesthetic you want. Overall, The Commons was the perfect place for us to get married, and if we could do it all over again, we would choose The Commons over and over again for our wedding day. Reviewed on 06-09-2018
Katie Finnegan(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 05-05-2018 The Commons is a BEAUTIFUL wedding venue with the perfect mix of clean, modern details and unique historic charm. The shiny hardwood floors, crystal chandeliers, and white & gold painted walls & columns make a lovely, elegant neutral backdrop for any wedding color scheme. It has 3 separate spaces: an outdoor garden with brick patio, a large 1st floor foyer with white porcelain tile & multiple fireplaces and a 2nd floor reception ballroom with dramatic ceilings, a grand fireplace, a balcony & a stage. All of these spaces are versatile and can be transformed to fit your wedding vision. We had our ceremony offsite and used both the foyer and the garden as our cocktail hour space while we took pictures offsite. We arrived and my entire bridal party stayed in the bridal suite on the first floor while we waited for all the guests to be seated upstairs and then we were introduced into the ballroom, it was so much fun! The coordinators that you work with make you feel like one of the family--they are a small, but dedicated team who truly care about every little detail of your wedding. I worked with both Kristi & Gianna. Kristi is so friendly and a genuine sweetheart. She has a LOT of experience with the wedding business and is a great resource for any question you many have; not just about The Commons, but about wedding day timelines, wedding vendors; truly anything wedding related, she is happy to help with. Gianna was my day-of coordinator and she was awesome as well. She took detailed notes about all of my centerpieces, flowers, decor, etc. and executed it all exactly as I wanted, I didn't have to worry about a thing. She also made sure that our timeline went smoothly throughout the night and that we were always well taken care of with food and drinks. The food was delicious, it's nice that they have a kitchen and chef on site so you don't have to worry about finding a caterer. We chose to do the parmesan cheese cups for our first course salad--people absolutely LOVED them. Not to mention the phenomenal wedding cake, half raspberry lemon filled and half CANNOLI flavored filling; SO good!! The hors d'ouevres and entrees were amazing as well, I've heard nothing but rave reviews from my guests. Since the chef and culinary team are on site, you are able to request things that are not on the menu if you have something particular in mind. They are very flexible and can pretty much whip up anything! The only \"negatives\" I have to mention are that the prices are definitely not very negotiable. We were on a budget since we mostly paid for the wedding on our own. We were able to negotiate a little with most vendors, but not with The Commons. However--I do believe that they offer HIGH quality service for the price points that they are at, so we were willing to reserve a lot of our budget for this kind of value. Also, you do have to get all of your decor and personal items out the night of the wedding, which for me was definitely a little bit stressful--I stayed back to make sure everything went where it was supposed to (which it did, of course), and it delayed me a bit from getting to the hotel after party. But I think as long as you are aware of that ahead of time and plan for it better than I did, you would have nothing to worry about.Overall, I would highly recommend The Commons to anyone looking for a moderately priced venue with beautiful features, outstanding meals and a detail-oriented, highly motivated staff of coordinators Reviewed on 23-07-2018
Cory Lahue(groom)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 30-06-2018 We threw the wedding of the century at The Commons 1854 in Topsfield, MA! We first fell in love with the Commons because of the amazing event planners, the beautiful, New England, and classic space, and a lot of recommendations. We could not have been more thrilled with the result. My husband and I met as English Majors in college and wanted to have a literary themed wedding. The Commons was super accommodating to our theme- they let us use book titles instead of table numbers and gave us plenty of ideas. Our wedding party was huge (17 people) and we were able to fit everyone under the pergola in the garden for the ceremony. The food was amazing. The passed hors derves were incredible and there was plenty for everyone (178 guests). Our meals were cooked perfectly! We had 140 filet mignons and each was cooked absolutely perfectly. We also had a cake made from their outside partner vendor that was both lemon raspberry and cannoli flavored. They even made a separate batman cake for my husband that came out amazing! Finally, our wedding planner, Maura Galligan was absolutely the best wedding planner ever. She thought of everything and was able to make all of our ideas (both crazy and seemingly impossible) work flawlessly with her incredible organization, attention to detail, ,and eerie ability to be in multiple places at once. I felt so at ease with her running things. We never knew anything went wrong if it did, and we were able to eat, and dance all night on our wedding day because of her incredible effort to make all our wedding dreams come true! Holly Kenney(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 30-12-2017 The Common 1854 was such a gorgeous venue for my December 30th wedding. They were able to make my images of my dream wedding come to life. The venue is family owned and they definitely treated my husband and I, like one of their own.First off, Gianna was hands down the best wedding coordinator I've ever heard of and she went to great lengths to make sure my husband, myself and our guests were taken care of. From Gianna reaching out to her contacts to find me a more fitting hairstylist/makeup artist only 4 weeks out from my wedding date, to rebustling my dress with safety pins in the bathroom half way through the night, to being right by my side with bobby pins when she noticed some of my hair starting to fall out of place. She's also someone who listens closely to details, even when I hadn't realized I had explained my images of setting up my décor, but she came through and made my dreams true to life. Both Kristi and Gianna were always professional, organized and quick responding to my emails and many questions I had during the planning process. They made everything run flawlessly and couldn't be any sweeter. The owner Frank, his son (head Chef) and all of the other Chef's outdo themselves when it comes to the food. They are passionate with what they do and every app and dish couldn't have been any more delicious. We keep hearing from our guests that they've never had such amazing food and it's all thanks to them. Their Filet and pizza is something everyone should try. A-mazing! I have my own food allergies and the chef's were great about accommodating my dishes during the food tasting and on our big day. The venue itself, from the clean modernized downstairs (cocktail hour) to the gold trim, large windows and chandeliers that hang in the ballroom, is gorgeous no matter how you decorate it. It is a very romantic and timeless looking venue. Love Love Love The Commons 1854 and can't even explain fully how amazing this venue is for weddings. Reviewed on 09-01-2018

We held my daughter and her partners wedding at The Commons 1854 this past Friday, October 20, 2017. I don't think there are enough words to describe how fantastic the entire day was for our family and friends. Starting from booking the Commons, the experience with the staff has been nothing short of wonderful. Gianna's, the event planner for our daughters wedding, attention to detail was evident in every aspect of the day. The staff promptly attended to all of our guests arriving for the ceremony, which was held in the courtyard, by offering a glass of champagne. The appetizers during the cocktail hour were plentiful, warm and delicious. The fig and brie tartlets and the tomato soup and grilled cheese appetizers were a HUGE hit. All of our dinner selections were served perfectly cooked, warm and in generous portions. Gianna worked diligently throughout the night to ensure every guest was attended to no matter the request. The Commons is an absolutely beautiful venue in the quaint town of Topsfield. Our out-of-town guests were treated to the beautiful fall scenery on what was a fantastic New England day. All of the vendors were coordinated through Gianna during the day and it hardly seemed like any of them were even there. For the entire evening, we were able to enjoy the wedding and our guests. Every communication whether phone call or email with Gianna or Christy was answered efficiently. My entire family will be forever grateful for making a special day into an EXTRAORDINARY EVENT that will never be forgotten. Mary Zick(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 07-10-2017 Beautiful venue, accommodating staff, delicious food, picturesquely New England. My husband and I instantly loved The Commons when we first visited, and we were assured that they had worked with many out-of-town couples before, so that was one of the details that secured for us that we wanted to have our wedding reception there. We're so thrilled with the beautiful setting and how we didn't have to deal with any details the day of our wedding. Johanna and the other staff really took care of everything the day of the wedding, and for that we are so grateful! They were also very helpful in connecting us with a nearby church and providing quality recommendations for hair, makeup, flowers, and transportation. We were very impressed with the quality of services provided and recommended by The Commons. I am giving four stars instead of five due to some frustrations that we had with communication. I mention this in hopes that it will be taken constructively--as I said, we were very happy with our decision to have our reception at The Commons and the following comments do not take away from the fact that we had a beautiful wedding day. That being said, we were expecting a little more help from The Commons in the planning process as we were living out-of-state at the time. I would have appreciated more check-ins from the staff about finalizing details. While most emails were answered within 1-2 days (thank you!) there were times when it took 2-4 weeks to get an important question answered, and we often received conflicting information depending on who we spoke with. When we first began planning, we were told incorrect information related to availability of certain tables, pricing of different details, etc etc. This led to a few inconveniences such as having to change our whole table set-up, including the flower arrangements, two weeks before the wedding. Everything turned out beautifully, however had we been operating with the correct information, there would have been one less stressor leading up to the wedding. We also had a few last minute cancellations and we were assured via email that we could have the extra meals wrapped up to take home so that we weren't throwing away literally hundreds of dollars of food. I even wrote this in the final spreadsheet that I sent to the venue, however this did not happen. In the grand scheme of things, these are small details, however there were too many instances for my liking in which incorrect information was given to us resulting in more stress and inconvenience for my husband and me. To end on a positive note, I also want to add that I really appreciated the flexibility of the staff the day of the wedding. Things went a little differently than we had originally discussed and Johanna and the rest of the staff didn't skip a beat--they rolled with the changing timeline with us and truly helped to make it the happiest day! We're very happy that we chose The Commons and we look back on our wedding day with such joy and happiness :-). Thank you! Reviewed on 16-10-2017

The function hall is gorgeous - all wood floors (we didn't want any carpeting), beautiful tall windows with gorgeous drapery, smooth, calm paint on the walls. I am of Italian heritage and food is very, very important;bad food can break an event for me. No worries - the food was fantastic. The staff was very attentive, (including the wait staff), very helpful, and very accessible. They understand the stresses of a wedding. They have a fabulous checklist and would email my daughter to be sure she was on task. The ceremony was held outside in their beautiful garden. As an aside: we had looked in the Boston area and not only were the prices exorbitant, but they all included a 20% admin fee, then included that in the tax. We added Chinese lanterns, a cannoli table, coffee bar and extra hors d'oeuvres for our guests, and it was still less than Boston prices. Jillian Connally(not set)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 14-05-2016 I feel so fortunate that I was able to have our wedding reception at The Commons 1854. This beautiful, historic venue is straight out of a fairy tale, with a grand ballroom that gleams with gold and the sparkle of incredible crystal chandeliers. However, what truly makes the Commons 1854 the best wedding venue on the North Shore is its team of amazing wedding consultants. We had the pleasure of working directly with the owner, Kristi Martino, throughout the planning process. She helped us plan for every detail based on the packages we chose from their wealth of options. This venue is perfect for a Type-A bride like me who was slightly overwhelmed by the wedding planning process, because The Commons 1854 takes care of so many important aspects of the wedding day themselves. The tables, chairs, linens, food, and bar are all taken care of in house. They coordinate seamlessly with other vendors, including the band/DJ, florist, photographer, videographer, and more. We had our ceremony at a different location, but they have a beautiful garden for outdoor ceremonies or they can hold the ceremony in the ballroom as well. Kristi and her team are so respectful of every family’s budget, and they never tried to upsell or charge us for something we did not want or need. If we asked for her opinion about a certain option, she didn’t automatically suggest the most expensive option. She thoughtfully reflected on what would be best for our guests based on the decisions we had made so far. We appreciated her honesty and expertise so much! \tThe food at The Commons 1854 is absolutely spectacular. It was so difficult to select our choices for hors d’oeuvres, salad, main entrees, dessert, and late night snack because all of the choices were so delicious! Our guests had to stop themselves from ruining their appetites for dinner by eating too many of the fantastic cocktail hour passed hors d’oeuvres. Many of our guests came from Maryland, home to the best crab cakes in the country, and they all raved about the crab cakes at The Commons 1854. When we unexpectedly had some guests who requested vegan entrees, the owner and executive chef, Frank, accommodated their request with truly gourmet cuisine. Frank gave our guests so many personal touches through the artistry of his cooking that made them feel like they were eating at a gourmet restaurant, not a wedding reception. I know my husband says he dreams about the delicious beef tenderloin he had for his entrée! \tMy mom and I had many personal touches to add to the décor at our wedding, which required a lot of set up and break down time for our wedding coordinators, Maura and Kristi, but they happily executed our every request. During the reception, Maura and Kristi attended to my husband and I diligently, making sure we stayed hydrated, had something to eat, and were enjoying and soaking up every moment of our day. At the end of the night, they told us not to worry about coming back to pick up all of our décor and other items until Monday because they did not have an event scheduled for the following day. This helped us to fully enjoy our entire wedding weekend, which we appreciated so much. We truly could not have hoped for a more beautiful and accommodating venue for our wedding day. Kristi, Frank, Maura, and their entire team gave us our dream wedding. Reviewed on 28-08-2016
Amanda Cave(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 14-08-2016 It all started when my mom and I did our first meeting, I remember the owner was so friendly and pretty much hand feeding us samples of food. I even went home with a little sample platter! I was impressed then and everything got better and better! Gianna, our wedding coordinator, was absolutely amazing. Every staff member we encountered was so nice and you can really tell they enjoy where they work...which says a lot about the owners! The food was amazing, the gelato bar was by far my favorite! Heather Dufresne(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 29-04-2016 I can't say enough good things about the entire staff at The Commons 1854. They hosted our wedding last weekend and did an amazing job. Everyone there was very attentive throughout the whole process. From the initial visit, to the moment we walked to our car at the end of the wedding night, they were asking if they could do anything else for us. We worked mostly with Johanna who was amazing. She was a very calming presence during an otherwise busy wedding day. Not only did she guide us every step of the way, but she just knows what you need, before you know you need it. I remember clearly at the end of the night when all the guests were saying goodbye and leaving, I must have hugged and said goodbye to almost 60 people in 20 minutes. Naturally I was exhausted from the day's events and dancing etc.. As I said goodbye to the last person, I turned around and there was Johanna with a big smile and a glass of water waiting for me. She just knew that's what I needed !!! Everyone at The Commons 1854 was great. The wait staff during the night was extremely attentive, professional and helpful. The building itself is beautiful and newly renovated, but all the while keeping its historic charm. All of our guests commented on how beautiful the venue was and how great the food and services were. I highly recommend this venue. Heather and Nathan Reviewed on 09-05-2016
Annie Badavas(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 02-04-2016 The Commons was incredible! From soup to nuts, they were on everything. Leading up to the big day, Kristi, Kelly, and Johanna were attentive, responsive, and adaptive. On the actual day, Johanna went above and beyond to make sure my groom and I were fully taken care of. Everywhere we looked she had a solution and made sure each and every big moment of the day went off without a hitch. It was truly a perfect venue and staff! Reviewed on 13-04-2016
Nancy Badavas(wedding party)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 09-06-2017 Kristi and Frank Martino created the most beautiful wedding imaginable last weekend for our daughter Annie and her husband Kyle. The food rivaled our taste testings of local recommended caterers. The hors d'eovres were creative and succulent. The main course choices of salmon, tenderloin, or moussaka (Greek vegetarian dish) were exceptional. My 2 inch steak was cooked to absolute perfection. The new bar area was welcoming, warm, and beautiful. The staff met any and all of our needs. Little did we know that one of our \"silver letters\" on the table which was attached to a seating chart was lost. Without calling us, their onsite wedding planner went to an art store that afternoon, bought the large wooden letter P (for parents' table) and spray painted it silver to match the other letters. Everything about The Commons is charming, and Kristi and Frank met our ongoing changes right to the very end. They are patient and kind and have created a beautiful stunning place for any bride and groom to get have their reception. Their wedding planner is exceptional. She just gets it, and made the wedding reception an experience that we and all of our friends are talking about. Thank you all. Kristi and Frank next wedding we are definitely going to add the homemade gelato. Reviewed on 09-04-2016
Lindsay McHugh(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 05-12-2015 I got married early in december and our wedding was amazing!! It is a beutiful venue for winter weddings!! Johanna was such a pleasure to work with. She was always available by phone and email throughout our planning process and was always willing to give her opinion when asked which was extremely helpful! She met with us as many times as we needed as well. Everyone at our reception was great and helped make it the best night of our life. We got so many compliments about the food, which is a big reason we chose this venue. We had 165 people and we felt like this was a great amount for the space. I think if you are looking to have a good size dance floor and not feel too crowded during cocktail hour 200 people (the venues max) would be too many. I would (and have already) recommended this venue to anyone looking in the area! Reviewed on 06-01-2016
Amanda Burrows(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 21-11-2015 The Commons 1854 was the absolute PERFECT venue for our late fall 2015 wedding! I dreamed of an autumn, colonial-inspired, classic New England wedding and The Commons helped that dream come to life! Every guest commented on the beauty of the ballroom, the quality and superb taste of the food and signature beverages, and the attentiveness of the staff. From the bride’s perspective, you will not find a better deal for your money in the Boston area! We wined and dined at such a quality level for a value unmatched at any other local vendor we researched. But what puts The Commons over the edge is the wedding planning staff! Johanna and Kristi are phenomenal and masters of their craft! Paul and I worked closely with Johanna throughout the entire process and I cannot thank her enough for her attention to detail, willingness to go above and beyond (crafting and putting together our very own rustic-inspired popcorn bar), and drive to make our wedding run without a hitch! EVERYTHING went as planned day-of and that is due 100% in part to Johanna’s proactive approach, all accomplished with a smile! The ambiance was amazing (amber up lighting for the ceremony and I chose light blue for the reception) and the food was perfect! The staff is the best and Kelly was truly a God send! Her personality complemented ours perfectly and her calm demeanor put me at ease! She even performed surgery on my bouquet when my flowers showed up looking completely different than I had asked for. She went above and beyond what I would have expected! Kristi and Johanna were great the whole time leading up to the wedding, planning and accommodating me when I had to change appointment times and make changes to the final invoice. A couple times during the reception I just looked around and couldn't believe this beautiful wedding was mine! Everyone had a great time, enjoyed and raved about the food, and were in awe of the beauty of the venue! The perfect day!!\rP.s. Julia Mahoney(groom)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 31-10-2015 Our wedding was on October 31st, mainly because we were looking for a fall date not specifically for Halloween. After the year plus of prep I can say the night went pretty much exactly how we would have wanted it, and a lot of that was due to The Commons. Since they do it every week, they've got it down.\r\rInitial meetings and planning happen when you book then you'll have some downtime, in the weeks before the wedding you'll be working on all the finer details, selecting food, alcohol, etc. They were flexible with our food selections and the fact that they can get basically any kind of beer was awesome.\r\rPeople are still telling us the food was the best wedding food they've ever had, especially the beef. It was cooked perfectly, they just did a great job.\r\rWe also went with the ice cream sundae bar and espresso/cappuccino bar.....both great choices. We held off on up lighting which turned out fine.\r\rBottom line, you will not go wrong if you choose The Commons. They will help make sure the night goes smooth, and your guests will be telling you what a fantastic time they had. Reviewed on 02-12-2015
Lauren Companeschi(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 31-07-2015 I couldn't recommend The Commons 1854 highly enough for a wedding venue - everything about the venue was perfect for our wedding day. From the moment we walked in and met with Kristi, my husband and I knew this was the place for our wedding, and we have heard from many of our guests since, that this was \"the best wedding ever!\" - even one of our vendors!\r The Commons is absolutely beautiful inside and out, and we loved the idea of having our ceremony & reception in one place and were able to have our ceremony and cocktail hour outside in the beautifully upkept garden, complete with one of my favorite details - a little rock & water feature. \r\r Kristi made the whole process of planning every last detail easy and as stress free as planning a wedding can be. All of the staff at The Commons were extreamly professional, friendly and went above and beyond to keep not only us, but all of our guests happy.\r One of the biggest selling points for us was the food. My husband is a professional chef and had a nice time talking menus and foodstuffs with Kristi, and most importantly, the vendors that supply the food. After our first meeting with Kristi, he said to me \"I know all the vendors they use, and it is nothing but top grade stuff.\" So, we knew the food would be good - but had no idea as to how good, until we attended the tasting. We were very excited with the menu selections and flavor combinations - with details to taste and texture. We quickly decided on what our selections would be for our big day - and we were very pleased, as was all of our guests, several months later and they are still talking about how delicious the food was! \r We had a perfect evening and didn't even have to worry about anything - everything was taken care of from the moment we arrived. We just had to show up and let Kristi run the show - everything went so smoothly that we hardly knew she was even there.\r If you are looking for a beautiful venue, with delicious food & professional, accomodating staff, and don't have to do anything but have a great time, I would highly recommend The Commons 1854. Stefanie Buchanan(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 08-08-2015 We could not have chosen a more perfect venue for our August wedding. The grounds were perfect for the ceremony - the space comfortably held our 170 guests but still provided an intimate feel like we had wanted. The cocktail hour was fantastic - guests were able to mingle outside & in the gorgeously renovated lower level. The reception was just perfect - I had two concerns as the wedding date neared - seating guests on the balcony and the size of the dance floor - neither were a problem! Choosing the right crowd for the balcony left for a fun party during dinner up there & the dance floor was perfect for the 90% of guests that danced for 2+ hours! Food & Drink were just amazing - absolutely not \"wedding food\" - it was all delicious! Still having friends & family tell me about the fun apps, the great signature cocktails, the delicious salad and the STEAK!\r\rOur pictures had the best back drop - the ceremony grounds, the barn and the Commons were just gorgeous and perfectly fit the rustic chic theme we wanted. \r\rLast & definitely not least, we 100% echo all of the positive reviews in regards to professionalism of the staff - Kristi & Frank were so wonderful to work with when booking the venue & Johanna is a PRO - she does not miss a beat. Each meeting with her was efficient, positive and her follow up is quick & reliable. The day of was so smooth! So many friends had warned me to \"plan for things to go wrong\" - and nothing did. The food is the best wedding food we have ever tasted and we are still receiving many compliments from our guests on the caliber of the food. However, in my mind what stands out most about the Commons is the service. We cannot say enough good things about the wedding coordinators Johanna and Kelly, they are amazing.
