The Frazier is hosting open houses on Saturday, January 13th, 11 am-4 pm & Saturday, January 20th, 11 am-4 pm.
The Frazier History Museum, located in downtown Louisville, KY, is an elegant venue for weddings and other special events. Here, you can surround yourself with all manner of historic artifacts and interactive museum installations while you celebrate your love. Located in the West Main District of the city, the Frazier is surrounded by other museums and tourist sites.
The Frazier History Museum is affiliated with the Smithsonian Institution. The knowledgeable museum staff work hard to help their clients to learn about and understand stories from history. Philanthropist Owsley Brown Frazier founded the museum in 2004 and was passionate about all manner of topics, from world history to historical miniatures. The museum became the first stop on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail in 2018.
With a selection of indoor and outdoor event spaces, the Frazier History Museum can comfortably accommodate up to 300 people. This includes a Rooftop Garden overlooking the Ohio River, available for ceremonies, receptions, and cocktail hours. 250 or more of your nearest and dearest can be seated for your ceremony, then head downstairs to a gallery floor for a cocktail hour before moving to our 4th floor Loft for a beautiful reception. If the weather takes a turn for the worse, the museum has a backup indoor space that you can use for no extra charge.
More intimate ceremonies and receptions can be held in our 1st floor Great Hall or various other spaces, including our 3rd floor prohibition era Speakeasy or outdoor Gateway Garden. Each rental includes tables, chairs, and event staff to help the day run smoothly!
Frazier Museum is an absolutely beautiful venue. The rooftop ceremony, cocktail hour options, and the reception on the 4th floor. We would highly recommend having a day of coordinator to help ensure your day goes as smoothly as possible. They offer very limited direction and assistance the day of. Be aware that there are several \"add-ons\" and hidden costs that come up after the contract is signed. The individual we communicated with when initially signing the contract left and after several attempts to reach out we were put in touch with the individual that took their place. Communication is not a strong point of theirs. Reviewed on 25-06-2023
Danielle Bonebrake(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 30-10-2021 Upon the first visit to the museum, my husband and I were amazed by how gorgeous the museum was, all around. The exterior, the entry, the courtyard, the museum itself, and of course the fourth floor loft and rooftop. We visited many other venues and knew right away they couldn't compare to FHM. However, we ended up going through THREE contacts as the first two ended up leaving FHM within the 9-10 months while we were in planning. Each planner was overly nice, btw. So my only complaint with that, is the minimal communication after each left and we were in someone else's hands. Kind of raised a red flag to me and made me feel as if the planning would be unorganized. There were a few other red flags that I would make sure you know going in, as I did not. 1–Parking. Would my guests have to pay since my wedding started before closing time? (I was told there would be an attendant and if they said they were there for a wedding, the probably wouldn't have to pay). I went into my wedding day unsure if they would be able to park in the lot with no issues. 2–Rehearsal. Whew this was a mess. I was never told I would not be entering through the front. (and it was raining hard the day of rehearsal). So most of my rehearsal guests tried coming to the front and my handicapped grandfather was dropped off at the front. Then I had to feverishly have anyone arriving start texting anyone else they could, to come to the SIDE door where their security station was. The security station entry is very small, and everyone had to stand around in the small hall to wait on further instructions and to ride the one elevator up to the loft. My grandfather and others lifted his electric scooter down the few steps to get him to be able to get to the elevator. It may not have seemed like a huge deal if I didn't have the rain+my grandpa+no idea that I should have told my whole party to come down the side of the building to the side door while being poured down on by rain, to enter and then wait for 5-10 for further instructions. It just felt so unorganized on the FHM part. And this was the first impression the people closest to me, had with the museum and their staff. 3–Day of, there will be so many guests wandering and passing the bridal party rooms and not go straight to the reception. I felt that my coordinator and my dj helper had to help push people into the reception/cocktail area and too many people were sitting in a random part of the museum and saw me a few times when they shouldn't have. I was told there would be plenty of museum signage with our wedding name to help direct people, but many still seemed lost. I will say, this could happen in any venue I'm sure. I would've added my own signs had I known they were needed though. We LOVED the venue, we loved how nice most of the staff were, and the overall experience. I do, however, think there are a few kinks the FHM team need to work out to make the whole experience a 5 star one. Reviewed on 28-02-2022
Naomi Hale(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 24-04-2021 Wonderful to work with. We had originally planned for the rooftop for the ceremony but, go figure, our only rainy day in April was our wedding. 🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️ our backup option was our reception location in the Fourth Floor Loft. We had our cocktail hour on the second floor in and around the Speakeasy. We ended up working with Tori, and she was amazing. So kind and accommodating, she allowed our vendors to get in Friday night to set up when there wasn’t a wedding the night before. It was such a big help. She went above and beyond. Everything just turned out amazing and I would get married here again in a heartbeat! This was the perfect backdrop to our gorgeous wedding. 1000000 stars!! Reviewed on 28-06-2021
Brittany Kyzer(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 20-03-2021 There are no words for how amazing the Frazier History Museum was to work with for our wedding! Our venue coordinator Tori always ensured we had everything we needed (even through a pandemic). The Frazier worked with us flawlessly through all of our COVID changes we needed to make. They ensured the entire day went off without a hitch! The venue has a variety of spaces for your event needs. We ended up renting out 3 floors for our wedding. Couldn't recommend them more! Maddie McNabb(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 04-01-2020 We had our ceremony and reception in the fourth-floor loft at the Frazier, and it was beyond amazing! I was looking for something industrial style while my husband wanted something a little more clean and classic, and the Frazier was the perfect in-between with the white painted brick and abundance of natural light. It also has tons of great places to take photos, including on the rooftop and throughout the museum (absolutely had to get one in the bourbon hallway!). Our on-site coordinator, Katie, was super knowledgeable and helpful and was present for the rehearsal and the entire day of the wedding. I had a wedding planner, so they worked together more than I worked directly with Katie, but they seemed to work really well together. And finally, the price the Frazier charges is extremely reasonable and includes setup and cleanup, tables and black chairs, and coat racks for our guests (winter wedding). We did take advantage of some of the add-ons they charge more for, including all-day museum access, which was very popular with our guests. All in all, if the Frazier fits your wedding style, I highly recommend checking them out! Reviewed on 18-01-2020

Kelsey Teaf(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 21-10-2017 I loved having our reception at the Frazier! They provide coordinators for your event that are very responsive and organized. You can tell that they are experienced and know exactly how to set things up and make the space look great. We had a larger wedding, inviting 250+ people and the loft was a perfect size for dinner. However, I think the highlight of the night was having the cocktail reception on the roof - the weather and views were so great. The venue didn't require a ton of decor - I added uplights and overhead market lighting to warm things up a bit, and it was perfect. The exposed white brick walls were really lovely. I never actually met my coordinator Abby - but I think that's actually a good thing - she had things squared away with my planner so I had no questions at all on the day of. My only criticism is that the elevators are a bit tricky. Certain floors have restricted access - so when all the guests were trying to leave, they got into the elevators and pressed 1, which didn't work because apparently they needed to press B. Very minor, just caused a bit of a back up during the exit. Otherwise everything was fantastic! Reviewed on 27-10-2017
Oshin Gerughty(bride)3 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 16-06-2017 The venue itself is beautiful, we had our ceremony on the rooftop and our reception in the Great Hall. We looked into the loft as well, which also was a great space. It was such a unique experience to have our wedding in such a fun place. However, we did have several issue with the event staff member who helped plan out our big day. Please do not get us wrong the event venue itself is amazing, but we did run into issue with staff and would hate for others to have the same problems. Unfortunately, our review is based on the actions of one as they were our sole communication for our event. We had major problems with communication, to the point where we felt like we were being ignored, and had to contact upper management (who seemed wonderful, and seemed to be very helpful with our issue). We would call multiple times in a week, and left multiple messages, only to get email responses. Didn’t get personal contact for over a week until we used a different phone number not listed with them, which seemed odd. We truly only needed good, open communication two weeks before our wedding, however, we got the exact opposite. It was disappointing to us, and left us feeling like we were not an important enough event to get the proper communication. Several venders stated they had trouble getting correct information from the event coordinator as well. Had wrong times stated for events, or the wrong number of people listed, we had to call to correct each of these issue. Which we could have easily done in the first place, but it was stated by the event coordinator that it would all be taken care of, which we naively believed. Several other items that were said to be taken care of by the event coordinator had to be taken care of by ourselves. The day of the wedding there were more signs put out for a wedding rehearsal taking place than there were for our wedding. This caused major confusion for our guests. In addition, the original signs placed had the wrong information on them, luckily our wonderful friends were able to catch it and have it changed. The music for our ceremony was completely off, the museum provided a sound technician, however, our music for the ceremony was a mess. I would suggest having your DJ do the ceremony just to be on the safe side. Our music was said to be checked prior but I find that hard to believe, it was only three ceremony songs and some sounded completely muffled and distorted. Made all the stress of picking out the perfect songs seem so trivial, because they didn’t work out anyways. It might sound crazy, but overall we would recommend having a wedding there, honestly with all the craziness we still loved every minute of our day and couldn’t imagine a different venue. Our suggestions would be make sure you have someone close, and personal, to double check everything on your big day, like the music, have your own sound technician for the ceremony, and make sure your event planner is on top of everything. It is our understanding there are several different event coordinators, so hopefully someone does not run into the same issue we had. Reviewed on 26-06-2017

Julie was our wedding day coordinator, and she ensured we had drinks in the back room for the wedding party and my husband and I had appetizers and a drink sitting at our table after the first dance. She ensured everything went smoothly and it was perfect! Our wedding was on the fourth floor loft and it was gorgeous! She was very responsive, gave helpful suggestions and never left me waiting around for a response to anything (and I emailed her A LOT!). The rooftop is what really sold us on Frazier over any other venue. It is the best rooftop wedding venue in Louisville, hands-down. We brought in our own wedding arch, but even if we hadn't, the rooftop had lovely flowers lining the sides of the railing, which looked very pretty in photos. The loft space was great for what we had in mind for our wedding. We were looking for a blank-canvas that we could transform into exactly what we wanted and it fit the bill perfectly. Everyone commented on what a cool and interesting space it was. We had a few issues/snags with our other vendors, but Valerie handled everything gracefully. She even supplied my step-dad with a drill when he needed it to put together our wedding arch. Honestly, I don't know what we would have done without her. I highly recommend Frazier! They answered emails in a timely fashion. They had great ideas and I am so grateful to have had so much help. They were prompt and true to their words. Perfect!! No complaints. The rooftop was AMAZING. My guests were stunned at the beautiful view and the beautiful yet subtle decor up there. Their are already flowers and a few potted plants up there so we did not decorate at all and we did not need to. We only added two columns to stand in between during the ceremony.
