We absolutely loved our experience with the Harlow. The venue itself is stunning and the team is great. I was able to meet with the coordinator whenever I wanted from booking to wedding. They accidentally booked my day on the same day as another bride/groom (what are the odds someone booked at the exact same time, it was crazy) and they immediately made up for it by comping us our ceremony and 3rd bartender fee. The venue coordinator at times was not great about answering my texts but she made up for it by allowing us to get our decor/things the next day instead of getting everything out at the end of the night. My day of coordinator felt unwell during our reception and had to leave early so she was unable to take items at the end of the night as originally planned and Harlow was so nice and accommodating allowing us to keep it there till Monday. We truly didn’t have to do much decorating because the space is so beautiful on its own. Domanique was awesome to work with. She was very responsive and helpful even when I would ask the same question many times. I feel like The Harlow is very fairly priced for what you get. We had both our ceremony and reception at this venue on 10/29/2021. We did have three venue managers throughout our planning process, but each one that we worked with was very helpful, quick to respond to questions and so great to work with. They made pricing for the event easy and straightforward. You are able to add in additional time at the venue as well, which I highly recommend if doing both ceremony and reception at the venue). The venue is gorgeous and does not need a ton of decoration to make your event beautiful. We got a lot of compliments on how unique and intimate the venue was. 10/10 recommend The Harlow! Obviously this wasn’t ideal for us or The Harlow, but The Harlow offered great flexibility to accommodate us by allowing us to reschedule which was much appreciated. Everyone who we worked with was absolutely amazing! The venue had ample space for our 75 person wedding which allowed for a great sized dance floor area. As a fellow vendor, I cannot say enough great things about The Harlow! This space was one of the first I had the chance to work in years ago when I first started in the industry and, since then, I have always been so impressed by both the space and the management. With a beautiful city view, warm atmosphere and romantic-industrial vibes, this venue is so perfect for your wedding or event. The staff take extra care of their clients and their weddings and there are so many fun opportunities to make this space your own! Would absolutely recommend this venue for your wedding day! We originally went to The Harlow to talk about one of Abbott Events other venues (The Bardot), but when we saw The Harlow in person we instantly loved it! It was the perfect combination to fulfill my husbands \"light and airy\" interests and my \"industrial and moody\" interests. The whole process of of wedding planning with The Harlow was smooth and everyone stayed in touch over the year of planning. We had originally booked at The Berg prior to it being bought out by Abbott Events, and to be honest, at the time it wasn't really my top choice… but trying to find a venue with availability in the fall “only” a year out around downtown KC is actually HARD! When I first heard about the ownership change, I was a bit nervous - the idea of a new team coming in and messing with our plans and contract midway through our engagement sounded scary, but holy moly it was a BLESSING! The updates Abbott made to the space transformed it from \"this will do\" to \"I love the space!!\" Morgan specifically was amazing to work with – she was always so quick to respond to my emails if I had any questions or concerns, and she was extremely accommodating - from our rehearsal (prior owners wouldn’t let you have your rehearsal in the venue without paying extra… what?), to scheduling vendor drop-offs/pick-ups, and offering to refund the cost of the Courtyard for cocktail hour if we were unable to use due to weather. It was so refreshing to know that she’d be so reasonable about everything, rather than try to take advantage. The day-of went so well - the space worked out perfectly. The bartenders were great, and everyone also LOVED our reception entrance on the freight elevator. Highly recommend the The Harlow and the Abbott team! Reviewed on 17-12-2019

While originally we were booked at Californos, the best thing that ever could have happened for our wedding was Californos closing down and us making the switch to the Harlow. It was absolutely breath taking with all of the new updates that occurred when they made the switch from the Berg to the Harlow. We were welcomed with open arms by Elliot helping us feel comfortable with only 4 months before our big day and then Morgan taking over and helping us plan anything from room design to smaller details and staying during the wedding to make sure everything ran smoothly. The Berg is a great space to host a reception - it is in the up and coming Crossroads district, it's down the street from P & L, many hotels are within walking distance and it has lots of parking! The Sales Manager and Venue Coordinators are very responsive, are open to ideas and accommodated our every need. I highly recommend to use their day of coordination services to make the day as stress-free as possible. A special shout out to Morgan who walked us through the planning process, Kelly for handling the transition and to Elliot who made my daughter's vision into reality and stayed with us throughout the night. However, planning was a bit of a nightmare. We started booking our reception with Abbi, the coordinator at the time. Then, without notice, Cindy took over. We met with Cindy for our final walkthrough and felt good about everything. Then, 2 weeks before our reception, I was notified, after I sent an email asking a question, that Cindy was no longer with Berg and was replaced with Sophie. Sophie, sensing my anxiety about the last minute switch, agreed to meet with me and my mom the Monday before our reception. Turns out, several of the things we discussed with Cindy at our walkthrough didn’t make it on paper so Sophie had no clue what the plan was. If I wouldn’t have requested a meeting I’m not sure what our reception would have turned out like. Even the night of the event, there was some confusion about what we paid extra for and what we did not, because apparently Cindy promised us things that Sophie wanted to charge extra for. Overall, I would book the space again, but it would make me extremely nervous based on the number of coordinators the space has been through in a short amount of time, it made planning extremely stressful. Katie G(bride)2 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 04-11-2017 I've thought a lot about whether or not to write a review, but as a future bride I'd want to know the good bad and ugly. I'll start with the positives:The space is beyond beautiful. The hardwoods floors, the floor to ceiling windows, the beautiful courtyard outside...it's incredible. We received numerous compliments on the venue (we used it for both ceremony and reception), and our photos of the space are amazing. The magnetic wall is unique and versatile for displaying photos or other decorations, and there's a giant screen if you're showing a slideshow or other video. That being said, I would NOT book this venue again, solely because of the Event Manager, Cindy. She was by far the least professional vendor we worked with throughout our planning process. For starters, we had zero notification that Cindy had replaced Abbi as the Event Manager. Shouldn't there have been some sort of communication that the event manager we had been working with our entire planning process had left? She knew nothing about our wedding, and we basically had to start over once she took over. During our walk through, she verbally told us something that didn't end up making it into the contract...so low and behold, it didn't happen at the wedding and she flat denied ever saying it. The worst part - we had an issue with the timing on our actual wedding day, and the reception ended one hour earlier than my husband and I thought. We had paid extra money for this extra hour, as well as for multiple other vendors to stay until the time we thought the reception ended, so we also lost all of that money. We were obviously very upset. Cindy had left the event by this point, and was not available until the following Tuesday. We asked her to call us, which she did, and we were expecting at least an explanation and an apology for what happened. Instead, she called us and completely berated us for being upset over the incident. She was condescending, abrasive, and cold, and she ruined that day of our honeymoon. She never apologized, and in fact said, \"there was no misunderstanding. You're wrong.\" She did end up refunding our money for the extra hour of reception time that we didn't get, which was nice, but I felt zero remorse or empathy from her. Simply put - if you're considering booking The Berg for your wedding, I would STRONGLY advise against it if Cindy is still the Event Manager - there are plenty of other beautiful venues in Kansas City that have event managers who care about their customers. Cindy ruined the end of our wedding reception, and she showed zero remorse or empathy to us throughout this incident. Reviewed on 13-02-2018

Once we got to the Berg we knew that was it! Not only was the space in the crossroads disctrict/downtown which we loved it also offered the rustic feel with still being in the middle of the city! Finding a space downtown with parking is next to impossible and the fact that the Berg offers lots of parking and a parking attendant its amazing! On top of the amazing space is the amazing staff- Abbi is so easy to work with! She was very accommodating with anything and everything I asked of her! I nearly cried over one, because I loved it but it was too expensive for our family. I finally came across the Berg. Looking through the website, I was worried at what it may cost to be able to use this beautiful venue in Kansas City. To my surprise it was affordable! The Berg was the first (and only) venue that I actually visited in person. My mom and I met with Jillian and toured the venue. I knew right then that this was the venue for my fiancé and I! Jillian was amazing to work with. We kept in touch via email the entire year leading up to my wedding, and even met with her and my coordinators a couple of weeks before the wedding. This meeting was so nice to have available, as it helped ensure that we were completely prepared for the wedding.I utilized the venue for my wedding and reception. I chose to have both inside, and during the cocktail hour the room was flipped from wedding to reception. This went very well. The guests gathered outside in the beautiful alleyway (it was a warm day for the end of October, guests would have been able to stay inside if it were too cold or rainy) with hours de oeuvres passed and drinks available. The drinks, by the way, were delicious! The options for the types of alcohol/beer available are endless and the mixed drinks served tasted amazing.I received so many compliments from wedding guests about the venue. They loved the look and the vibe. They thought the layout was perfect and the accessibility to bathrooms, elevator, and exits was great.I would recommend this venue to anyone! Reviewed on 05-12-2016

The look and feel of the venue was exactly what we were looking for! The brick and wood floors are gorgeous and gave it the rustic vibe we wanted. It was the perfect canvas to add little touches of decor to make it your own. I looked through their pictures on instagram and facebook to get some ideas of how other couples did their floor plan, which I found extremely helpful! My now husband and I had moved out of state after getting engaged for his job and I was extremely apprehensive about planning everything from afar. Jillian is fantastic and was so accommodating. She walked my family and I through each step of the planning process, whether I was there in person or they were there for me and I was on speaker phone. She quickly replied to all my emails and phone calls. It was honestly such a relief working with someone so organized! I highly recommend using the courtyard and doing the second bar out there for when guests arrive. The bartenders at the reception were fantastic! Not only was the space absolutely perfect (and so beautiful we spent next to nothing on additional decor), but Jillian exceeded our expectations in every realm. Our family is from out of town and she kindly opened up the space each time a new family member came to Kansas City and wanted to peek at the space. She was very organized and kept our payments on schedule and was very clear about every detail that was included with The Berg. Their price may look high to some at first glance, but when you take into account the additional factors you are receiving it is entirely fair compared to other vendors in the area. They provide the tables and chairs (not many vendors in the area do), their preferred caterer list entails a variety of prices and are all fantastic, and you get Jillian (or another venue coordinator) the day of who certainly makes sure their end of the contract is being fulfilled. I HIGHLY recommend The Berg Event Space to anyone looking to hold both their ceremony & reception there or just their reception. We had 175 guests and it was the PERFECT space (we utilized the courtyard while The Berg staff flipped the ceremony space into the reception space). Don't wait, book now!! Reviewed on 15-09-2016

Jillian was outstanding when it came to communication and answering all my questions. I remember the first time I e-mailed her in a frenzy wanting to book a tour in less than 12 hours, not only did she e-mail me back that night, she accommodated my tour with no problem! We enjoyed every moment, from the first meeting to the final seconds of my reception, all in a stress free no worry environment...not to mention in a beautiful venue, one that requires very little decorations because its already the perfect space!!! Hiring Jillian as our day-of-coordinator was the best decision I ever could have made. She is worth every penny! Jillian made everything run smoothly during the entire planning process, during the rehearsal and all the way up until the very last minute. I truly believe our day would not have been so wonderful without her helping us through each step. The space is really unique with the exposed brick and wood floors. Jillian was really easy to work with and she answered all of our emails. We enjoyed being able to use the bridal suite and groom's suite while getting ready, but we did have to pay for an extra hour to get in the space early. (other than picking my husband) amazingly beautiful space, and it's so transformable! I went to two open houses, both looked gorgeously different and my wedding was very different from those looks as well - yet each set up looked perfectly at home! You can't go wrong here! \rHiring Jillian as our day of coordinator was the second best decision I made! Worth every penny, and more! My 5 aunts and parents decided that the wedding could not have been set up in time, let alone so beautifully, If Jillian and her staff had not done all the work. \rA bridesmaid of mine got married in Estes Park, CO in the middle of the mountains and instantly told me she was so jealous of my venue she wanted to cry! I was getting stressed out during the week of the wedding and kept emailing and calling both of them so I really appreciate them for being patient with me. \r\rI do want to give future brides a heads up: make sure you really understand your contract!! Ask questions if something doesn't make sense. My husband and I payed for the venue and were slapped in the face with a $2,000 bill for soft drinks…that's where they really get their money. I'm pretty sure our guests didn't drink $10 worth of drinks. I think that's a bit too much for drinks. Other than that, I had a good experience with the Berg. But what you don't see when you go visit the space is that the staff is unbeatable. I love love love Emily. Emily, went above and beyond for us to ensure that our wedding was everything we had hoped for. They understood our vision, we felt loved, and they worked their tails off to make sure our wedding went seamlessly. I wouldn't just recommend this space, I would encourage every bride and groom to book ASAP! We have so much love for them. The women who run the Berg: Emily, Jillian and the rest of their staff go far past above and beyond and seem to fundamentally understand that your day is meant to be special, taken seriously and served professionally. The Berg was always my top choice venue, having been there dozens of times before for other social functions and work events. I just had to get my husband to see it for himself and give the thumbs up - and it was an easy sell.\r\rThe event planners were easy to work with and were fine to communicate with primarily over email (which I prefer due to a crazy schedule). The caterer we chose, Moxie, is a regular vendor at Berg so that part of the planning was seamless in terms of them knowing the flow of the space and what works well. Our guests liked the open feeling and great dance floor.\r\rOne of my favorite moments was when my husband and I made our grand entrance. We had our siblings (who were our wedding party) enter from the freight elevator on the east side of the venue. Then we followed a live mariachi band (tribute to our wedding in Mexico) up the stairs to greet our guests. So much fun!\r\rDue to crazy Kansas City weather (snow flurries and over-excited weather people on TV), we lost about 20% of our guests on the day of the event. We were bummed but the party was so much fun that we only noticed the wonderful people who were in the room with us that night.\r\rIf your guests are not familiar with Downtown KC, hosting at Berg is a great opportunity for them to branch out a bit and experience a beautiful venue in a popular neighborhood. Plus it's fun to tell people your wedding is happening next door to an adult entertainment venue and above a bar with one of the best known local live lounge singers.\r\rHappy planning! I would highly recommend her. She only works with the berg so she knows everything about the space. The space itself is beautiful and requires very little additional decoration if you are going for a simple theme. The only thing I wish they provided would be chairs for their outside ceremony space. We only had one miscommunication working between the two contacts which resulted in not getting the passed champagne toast we had planned on adding to our alcohol package, but it didn't really take much away from anything especially since the bar was open during dinner. This was the first event space my husband and I ever looked at and after seeing a few more, we realized it simply could not get better than Berg. \r\rEvent Manager Jillian Murphy was our primary contact at Berg Event Space and also did our day-of wedding coordination. She was wonderful to work with and had an answer for all of our questions! \r\rThe wedding coordination services were incredible. Berg offers 3 different levels of coordination packages (Full Service Coordination Package: $1,750, the Final Steps Coordination Package: $1,000 and the Day-Of Coordination Package: $699). I can’t tell you enough how worth it it was to have her detail-oriented and experienced guidance leading up to the event as well as throughout the evening. \r\rI’ve always fancied myself a pretty simple and organized person, however with wedding planning it was only natural to have questions and need a little extra help. We had a completely stress-free wedding and our guests enjoyed every minute of it! \r\rI highly recommend Berg to anyone out there looking at spaces. I cannot even begin to express how lucky I feel that we chose the Berg for our wedding (going on nothing but photos and recommendations--I was planning from out-of-town). We had both our ceremony and reception at the Berg, and it could not have been more perfect for us. It has such a beautiful atmosphere--open but warm, contemporary but timeless, urban but classic. \r\rThe communication, professionalism, creativity, thoughtfulness, and skill of the Berg staff is unparalleled. I was a very organized, spreadsheet-y kind of a bride, but I didn't want to be setting up centerpieces in my wedding dress. We hired the Berg's Emily Ferguson to be our day-of coordinator, and I am now pretty much in love with her. She was perfectly happy to answer my millions of questions from afar (and did so with speed and comprehensiveness) throughout the process, and handled every detail of our wedding day perfectly. I'm a teacher, so I love projects & made most of the decor myself, except the flowers, & the Berg staff took all of my projects & ideas & put them together to make the whole event perfect. I recommend that any bride have a day-of wedding planner, but if you want the best, you'll have to get married here! Emily is magical! I met with her to go over details a month before the wedding, dropped my decorations off with her the week before...& that was it. She took care of confirming vendors & setting up the day of the wedding, everything! She really captured all of my ideas & helped make them all fit together. It was just a really special place to get married, and we couldn't be happier with how it turned out. Leading up to it was a bit stressful since we lived 3 hours away and had difficulty arranging a time that worked with their schedule to see the venue and go over details. \r\rThe only real complaint I have is how their bar fees and alcohol pricing is setup. You have to use their alcohol which is overpriced. We had to pay a fee per person, which was actually the least expensive option, and only 1/4 of guests drank alcohol. \r\rOverall though, i would highly recommend them to anyone. I got away with doing all the decorating myself (minus the floral arrangements), and I'm not crafty! If you are wanting a ceremony that is not in a church, country club, or hotel, it is the perfect space. Very functional, and the staff is very helpful. I received multiple compliments from guests that the space was awesome for a wedding/reception. The space is expensive - and there are a lot of additional fees that go along with the space - so make sure you understand your contract. \rI wasn't aware of it at the time - but after the wedding one of my friends told me that a member of the staff \"scolded\" her for bringing in an adult beverage while she was setting up. My groom also said he was scolded as well right before he was supposed to walk down the aisle. While I should have told my group that alcohol was a no-no - I kind of wish it would have been handled a little differently. They had no idea and felt horrible. The court yard, freight elevator, and bridal suite created the perfect settings for pictures; while the magnetic wall was a great way for us to display our story and pictures for all of our friends and family to enjoy! \rWe took advantage of their day of coordinator service and without a doubt was one of the best choices we made. The staff was friendly, organized, knowledgeable, and incredibly easy to work! With them in charge I wasn't concerned about anything, and it made me have a surprising low stress kind of day! We were unable to have a rehearsal (held ceremony and reception at the Berg) since they had a Friday night event booked but everything went great. They handeld my large wedding party in such a professional manner and coordinated the ceremony perfectly! The reception...it was fantastic! From the security to the bartenders, everything was great. They also worked well with all of my vendors and friends that were helping out. If you are looking for a downtown rustic loft feel, The Berg is a wonderful option all year round. If you are doing your ceremony and recption there I highly recommend using their recommended vendors that have transitioned the space before, it was so nice to not have to think twice that it would happen smoothly. The space is gorgeous and offers an up-scale, modern loft feeling not found in other KC venues. The options/amenities are great also- there's an outdoor courtyard, different furniture available to choose from, and a big kitchen for caterers. Jillian was very helpful- she met with us multiple times to plan the layout of the room, as well as for a private wine tasting. They have great options for bar packages and the staff was wonderful the night of!! \r\rThe only issue we had, as others have mentioned, was that we couldn't start decorating until 4 hours before the reception. This was difficult as our ceremony started 2 hours before and my family had to rush to make it on time- they missed out on some family pictures too because of the time constraint. They met with us a month before the wedding to layout the floor plan of our reception and answered all our questions in a very timely manner. \rThe only con is that they would not allow us to begin decorating for our reception until 4 hours immediately prior to our reception, which is when the wedding started. This meant we had to have a large group of family and friends go directly from the wedding to the Berg to begin decorating (very quickly!) for our reception. We WERE offered to purchase more time to decorate but it was at a ridiculously high cost. Reviewed on 27-11-2011

Unfortunately for us the venue was booked for all of our prospective dates. Even still I was incredibly impressed as Jillian was very prompt and very helpful with information I requested and tried very much to find something that would work for us. I am delighted with her professionalism and promptness.I am disappointed that it has not worked out for this event but I will certainly be keeping Berg Event Space in mind for any future events. Appreciated the quick responses and all the coordination since our families were not living in KC - that helped tremendously knowing that we were in good hands the day of. The venue is just spectacular and speaks for itself- rustic feel with a modern vibe and amenities in the heart of downtown KC. Had no complaints there. All the furniture was set up just the way we wanted and they were a huge help the night of with the mics and technical elements. The only issue we had that I can think of was the bar getting backed up due to the kegs being foamy - but it turned out that people made friends in line and we switched to bottles to speed things up. they even let us store our decor until the next day. He liked it so much that it made it into our top four, and when I saw it I was sold. We used the magnetic wall as a huge photo wall, and had a videobooth in the side room that a lot of people took advantage of. The lounge seating was nice (a good place for my FG to crash), and there was attention to detail, even in the bathroom (which I didn't actually go into, but heard about). We had been talking back and forth with one person, and right before the wedding there was a change in coordinators, but nothing was forgotten or miscommunicated. The exposed wooden trusses and original brick wall give it a rustic look while the concrete bars bring in the contemporary side. Melinda Campbell(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 16-01-2011 If you are looking for a beautiful, modern space that doesn't require an extravagent flower/decor budget to look amazing, this is it. As a bonus, the event managers at Berg are real pros, and will walk you through every detail of your event from start to finish in advance of the big day, so they know and can accommodate all of your plans/preferences. The only drawback is the way alcohol is handled -- you have to purchase it from Berg (at a mark-up, on a per-drink basis) -- but they have several ways of helping you to stay within your liquor budget, and total liquor costs seemed similar to what comparable places charge. Bethany Szczepanski(bride)3 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 21-08-2010 Loved the vintage qualities of the space and that it was walking distance to our hotel and the P&L District. I had 130 guests and do not recommend any more than that for a seated dinner without losing your dance floor. Beware of the strip club on the back side of the building - no problems, but it looks tacky when driving by. Also beware that you are required to use The Berg's alcohol which I did not know until reading the contract. However, it was reasonably priced compared to other venues. Do not count on their \"Coordinators\" to do anything at all to help with your planning. Almost all of their \"preferred vendors\" were very high-priced, they wouldn't let us drop things off early to decorate, and they wouldn't even help with a table layout, which makes a seating chart very difficult. Great for a unique indoor space, but in hindsight I may have gone with an all-inclusive hotel for the convenience and value. Reviewed on 04-10-2010
