The Historic Post Office Reviews
Nicole Allen(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 19-02-2022 I cannot say enough great things about the Historic Post Office. From day one, they provided direct and concise communication which made comparing venues very easy and is one of the many things that drew us there. The day-of-coordination service is one of the most helpful a la carte items they offer. Our DOC was able to guide us to vendors within our price range, answer any and all questions we had, and really helped us shape our day through her questions and experience. We were one of the countless couples who had to postpone their big celebration due to the pandemic but we were fortunate enough to be able to use the HPO for our elopement in 2021 and celebration in 2022. Having the DOC as a point of contact at both events was so special and she went above and beyond to ensure that our elopement was still a sweet and memorable day. The bridal suite and grooms lounge access kept the day stress free and running on time, there was plenty of space for the wedding party to get ready comfortably, and also provide beautiful backdrops for getting ready photography and portraits. It is so easy to customize your event through add-ons like lighting, the venue itself is a perfect canvas for any mood/vibe/theme imaginable, and the HPO team has the experience to ensure a smooth wedding day. I would recommend the HPO and their coordination services to any and everyone, it is, in my opinion, the perfect venue. Reviewed on 24-02-2022

The Historic Post Office simply did not disappoint. The venue was clean and the staff was wonderful. Ellie was our coordinator and she went above and beyond to ensure that our special day was nothing short of perfect. She was available throughout the entire planning process. I knew I could count on her for anything! The venue itself is elegant and had everything we needed for the day of. The wedding party suites were comfortable and spacious, giving everyone plenty of space to get ready and spend the day together. We could not have asked for a better venue for our wedding day. Thank you all so much for everything you did! Reviewed on 12-01-2024

We had our wedding on 10/21/23 and the HPO was our venue and Sylvia was our coordinator. This one the one and only venue we toured, and that was all we needed. Everyone throughout the entire process was welcoming and seemed genuinely excited for our big day. Sylvia was our coordinator and she did absolutely AMAZING! Throughout the process, I was getting serious decision fatigue and she was so patient and understanding. I completely trusted her with all of the decor and she truly delivered the day of. Throughout the day, she was present and completely involved. She even helped occupy my grandmother, who has Dementia, while my uncle was making her plate at the buffet. It's so heartwarming to see someone who truly cares about everyone around her. Both of our families and bridal party loved her and she truly made our day 100% stress-free. And with me, that's really saying something! I highly, HIGHLY recommend the beautiful HPO and the even more beautiful coordination services! Reviewed on 29-11-2023

I can’t say enough great things about the HPO. The Historic Post office gave us our picture perfect wedding day that we envisioned. From our venue tour to the day of the wedding everything was amazing. For starters, the building is BEAUTIFUL. The white brick, lighting, scalloped windows, and wooden floors are so pretty on their own, it gave us a great backdrop to add our personal touches onto. The bridal suite is amazing to get ready in, and the guys had a great time in the grooms suite. Second, the staff at HPO runs a tight ship! The pricing is clear, concise and fair. There are different price points for different budgets. They were great at explaining add ons available like pro lighting, custom name added to the wall, Photo Booth etc which made our day even more custom and special. Everything went so smooth with the planning process over our year of planning. And last, but certainly not least Ellie, our wedding coordinator is hands down THE BEST decision we made for our wedding. We worked with her the entire engagement and she made the planning process so easy and made the day of perfect! We had 4 meetings leading up to the wedding. She planned the day step by step with us throughout the year. She gave us great advice on picking the rest of our vendors. The day of, everything was executed flawlessly. Ellie kept us on our timeline and set everything up perfectly. She set up all of our decorations exactly how I had in my mind, it was great seeing everything come together after a year of planning. Adam and I didn’t have to worry about a thing, as she took care of EVERYTHING! The day was everything’s we wanted and more, we can’t thank Ellie and the rest of the HPO team enough. The bridal suite and groom suite were both beautiful and elegant, a perfect place for pre-ceremony pictures! I definitely recommend using the HPO for any and all events, not just weddings. The Historic Post Office helped us give our daughter the wedding of her dreams! Our day of coordinator Ellie Bernstein was hands down the best gift I gave to myself to help me with the day of coordination. Do yourself a favor and REQUEST her!! My daughter was an out of state bride and having Ellie kept us all on task and helped us with a smooth most memorable wedding experience! She even kept all the vendors on a timeline. She did EVERYTHING and was so awesome it gave me the FREEDOM to be able to have a great time and visit with guests. The Venue is incredibly beautiful both inside and out with unique architecture throughout. The huge windows are just beautiful for bridal portraits. Ebone Dryver(bride)2 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 30-09-2022 This is a beautiful venue, but I have to be honest about my experience. I got married the day the area was experiencing bad weather due to a hurricane in Florida. the venue was amazing at reaching out to me the day before, letting me know I could bring things early, etc. The day of the wedding it was raining and windy and the building started to leak. Before I walked down the aisle someone place a garbage can by where the curtain would open for me, so my husband had my first look of me standing next to a trash can. People couldn't dance because there were trash cans and standing puddles of water. Half my guests left because they were older and afraid of slipping. There were water puddles in my reception space. No one bothered to speak to me about it, I emailed explaining why was I upset and they gave me a few dollars back, but with the amount of money I spent on the space I would have expected better. They cant control the weather, but they can control their communication. Reviewed on 01-12-2022

Our wedding was hosted at The Historic Post Office in the downtown Hampton area. This venue is everything you would want and more. The venue has an open floor plan with a balcony overlooking the first floor as well as a bridal and groom suite. Their suites include showers, washer/dryer machines, a pool table, a kitchen and more! During our morning there, we were able to relax and get ready while our day-of coordinator, Silvia, managed everything happening downstairs. Silvia was the most helpful person we have ever worked with. She coordinated all other vendors and set up all the decorations for us. The ceremony/reception spaces are stunning and the bridal/groom suites were above and beyond what we saw at any other venue. HPO also offers so many options beyond just the venue rental including coordination services and rental items. We decided to use their coordination services and got the pleasure of working with Kate. Andrea Sigwart(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 14-10-2022 We had such a wonderful experience with the HPO venue and their coordination service option. It’s their venue and boy do they know how to run the show. I’m sure that all of the coordinators are wonderful, but we were lucky to have had Ellie Bernstein beside us. We enjoyed every meeting leading up to the big day, helpful tips, and vendor recommendations. She helped us make sure things where addressed, gave us assignments, and was always available to answer questions. I can’t say enough about that because we opted to plan our own wedding and this was JUST the right support we needed. We still drove things—- but her wisdom was vital to our success. She helped execute our set up and breakdown perfectly. From what I hear the breakdown is always a bit of a scramble. That’s the only advice I’ll give is plan ahead (more then you think needed) to leave with things that night. There are always little things that happen with these events, behind the scenes, and I promise you don’t want to handle them on your most important day. You can trust the HPO team to have your back and have your best interests. I highly recommend. The venue is gorgeous and a perfect canvas for however you want to make it your own event. From start to finish, the staff at the HPO succeeded in making our experience fun and relaxing. Our wedding had approximately 150 guests, and the HPO comfortably seated everyone in their downstairs space. Leading up to the wedding, our day-of coordinator – Kelsey – managed all the important details and responded to our questions quickly. Her experience and insight clearly showed on the big day, as all aspects of our ceremony and reception went off without a hitch. As for the venue itself, we could not have imagined a better location. The bridal and groom’s suites gave us a luxurious setting to prepare for our big day, complete with separate bathrooms, kitchens, televisions, and lots of space for everything we needed to get ready. As for the ceremony, pictures cannot do justice to how beautiful the setting was. The HPO has great acoustics; every word in the ceremony echoed clearly throughout the building. The HPO staff worked efficiently to flip the downstairs from ceremony to reception as the guests moved upstairs for cocktail hour. As we stated before, they were able to comfortably seat our 150 guests in the space downstairs for dinner. Everyone had an excellent time on the dance floor in the reception. Finally, it’s worth noting that the HPO is no more than a 5-minute walk from the Landing at Hampton Marina – a high quality hotel that hosted many of our guests at a reasonable price. In all, the Historic Post Office and its staff have our highest recommendation for anyone seeking a wedding venue in the Hampton Roads area. You will not be disappointed! Reviewed on 04-01-2022

They booked it two years ago but, due to the pandemic, had to postpone until just recently. The staff at the HPO is amazing and Kelsey and Madeline were just so great at communicating through the delay. The venue itself is gorgeous and there are so many beautiful areas for decorating and photo ops. Having the option of set up/breakdown being handled made things so much easier and less stressful for the day of the wedding. One of the BEST features of the venue is the bridal suite. It is HUGE and there was plenty of room for 5 bridesmaids, flower girl, mother and grandmother, the bride, MOB, makeup artists and hair stylists, and various people that peeked in. The bridal party got their early in the morning and we had music going (definitely recommend a wireless speaker), food and mimosas...it is such a great space to relax and get ready. You always hear about the stress of the wedding day, so to see the bride and all her bridesmaids just enjoying the day and getting pampered with no worries was fabulous. There is also a groom's suite next door that has a pool table, tvs, leather chairs, small kitchen, etc. We put a cooler of drinks in the hallway so everyone from both sides could help themselves. I can't stress enough how wonderful it is to have EVERYTHING in one space...especially when it comes to decorating. Being able to do the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception there was great. Having the bride come out of the side hall and down the small staircase to her song (before coming around and going down the longer staircase) was SO dramatic and gave everyone a sneak peek before she came down the aisle. Everything about the wedding was just so beautiful, and I can't recommend this venue enough! Reviewed on 02-11-2021

Alli Conti(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 17-03-2019 If I could give The Historic Post Office 100 stars I would, and every one of them would be well-deserved. Picking your wedding venue is one of the most pivotal decisions you make as a couple because it impacts everything (how your day look and feels, your guest experience, etc. etc.). When I walked into the HPO for the first time, I knew I had found my dream wedding venue. The building itself is beautiful and is filled with historic details that give it a timeless look. Yet, the team at the HPO has done an amazing job of ensuring it is as practical as it is beautiful. There are SIX bathrooms (it sounds silly, but once you go to a wedding with a long bathroom line, this becomes an important detail), a BEAUTIFUL bridal suite, and a guy-friendly groomsmen suite. The venue is beautiful as is, but it is really easy for each couple to customize the space to match their personalities. The venue has in-house lighting that is so useful at achieving this. The HPO is truly an amazing wedding venue, but the team there is really what makes it stand out as the best (in my personal opinion) wedding venue in Hampton Roads. Kelsey and Madeline are incredibly professional and organized. When I arrived for my first tour of the HPO, I was given a folder with all types of materials about the venue, recommended vendors, pricing, etc. This was an anomaly, but a welcomed one. That level of organization and attention to detail was the standard that the HPO team held up throughout our wedding planning process.Speaking of the planning process, the best decision we made throughout it was hiring Madeline Wheeler with the HPO as our Day-Of-Coordinator. My husband and I cannot sing her praises enough. She is so terrific at what she does and made the wedding planning process easy and made our wedding day completely stress-free. Madeline is organized and professional with a spectacular attention-to-detail and calm personality that makes her a dream to work with. My husband and I were able to be completely present during our wedding day because of her hard work! Reviewed on 31-03-2019
Ashley Fick(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 02-02-2019 I am not sure that I can say enough amazing things about the Historic Post Office! As soon as we walked in, we knew that this was where we wanted to get married. We actually changed our wedding date to match what was available! The space is absolutely beautiful but still gives you room to decorate and make it your own. Our guests are still raving about this venue. Kelsey from the Historic Post Office was our day of planner and we could not be happier with all of the help that she provided. Kelsey absolutely went above and beyond to make our wedding day magical. I could not imagine a better place to share such a special day! Reviewed on 11-03-2019

It was the perfect for our wedding reception and our pictures are amazing. All of our guests absolutely loved the place. Everything was perfect. The atmosphere inside and out is great. I couldn't imagine my wedding reception being held anywhere else. The bridal and groom suites are wonderful and beautiful. Kelsey worked was our day of coordinator. She was very responsive even with a newborn! Kelsey helped me remember so many details towards the end that I would surely have forgotten. Her suggestions and recommendations for other vendors were amazing. She worked directly with my other vendors to make sure everything ran smoothly. The reception was perfect and if anything went wrong I was completely unaware. You can't go wrong with this venue or Kelsey. Reviewed on 05-12-2018

Sara Langway(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 02-11-2018 This venue is incredible and the bridal suite is TO DIE FOR. I almost didn’t want to leave! There is very little decoration required as the natural aesthetics of the building are just lovely. Even better than the venue however, is the level of service that they provide! We hired Madeline for Day of Coordination services and there are not enough words to describe how thoughtful and engaged she was with our wedding! She absolutely knocked it out of the park! There are so many little details that go into a wedding and it’s very easy to forget – however with Madeline on your side you will have the BEST WEDDING EVER. She helped us with everything from napkin folds, to timelines, to reassuring me that everything would go perfectly. It’s hard to believe that such a big event went off without a hitch! I was feeling under the weather by the end of the night and asked Madeline to push up the exit by 45 minutes and she alerted all the vendors and coordinated the whole exit, as well as my wardrobe change on the drop of a dime. I can’t stress enough how comprehensive and the services were! If you want superior service from a calm, organized, friendly, and extremely thorough coordinator, then Madeline is definitely the best choice! Reviewed on 13-11-2018
Kim Van Renan(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 19-10-2018 We booked both our venue and day-off coordinator through HPO (Madeline). Our wedding at HPO was an absolute DREAM! The venue is gorgeous and so, so timeless. The HPO staff is courteous, knowledgeable, and easy to get in touch with. I honestly felt so relaxed the day of my wedding because I knew everything was taken care of. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about our entire experience, start to finish. Amanda Ward(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 01-09-2018 When looking for wedding venues, we started our search at the Historic Post Office and quickly ended our search after visiting. The space is just beautiful, with a modern, industrial aesthetic that was both trendy yet classic in appeal. If offers plenty of space to layout your wedding in the best way for you, with options like a back patio or balcony area for cocktail hour, different areas for a bar or food layout, and all sorts of options for dinner. Not to mention a helpful staff on hand to help you with all of your needs. The real kicker, however, is the bridal and groomsman suites, which are out of this world. They offer private bathrooms and dressing rooms, a pool table, foosball table, and kitchen area. It is insane. We had almost as fun in there getting ready for the wedding as we did at the wedding. You can not find a better place to have your wedding in all of Hampton Roads. Reviewed on 29-09-2018

The bridal sweet- WOW. It was plenty of space for us to fully spread out and get ready at our own pace with the huge mirrors and natural light. Outside was stunning for photos and the natural look of the building was already beautiful. Being able to be in the venue all day was a blessing! We did not feel rushed in decorating or getting ready. Highly recommend this beautiful venue and amazing staff (Shout out to Madeline, who was always helpful and kind!) Reviewed on 30-04-2018

Mariaelissa Littles(bride)1 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 06-08-2018 We were very excited to be married here! It is gorgeous, and we booked last year. Sadly life events happen and we had to move our wedding date. We reached out to the venue, and changed the date and changed it to the elopement package. We needed to put down an additional deposit to secure that date. Unfortunately the day before we were to pay the deposit, we found out the baby we were expecting had passed. The following day we had to go into surgery. Even with everything going on, my fiance called and explained what was going on. He asked to be called to see if we could take care of it the following week. He specifically asked to be contacted so that i would not have to worry about it. Sadly we did not get a call but instead a few days later i received an email that was not received well. Keep in mind, we already had money invested in this venue we were not asking for anything free, just for a few days so we could at least physically heal from our loss. I was grieving, and i did not appreciate the email that was filled with \"we could or should charge you for this\ Reviewed on 28-04-2018

Heather Hanson(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 09-12-2017 We absolutely loved having our wedding at the Historic Post Office in Hampton! The staff is experienced in the event and wedding industry. They were very helpful during preparation for our wedding and offered lots of suggestions of different vendors and locations in the area. The day of our wedding, they helped make sure that everything was going well. The actual venue is a blank slate that can be dressed up as much or as little as you deem necessary for your event. The black iron railings, dark wood floors, and white textured walls offer a lovely backdrop for any wedding. One of the major selling points for us were the bridal suite and grooms lounge. They are wonderful places to get ready before your event. The bridal suite has a TON of mirrors and outlets; it is readily apparent that a lot of thought was put into the design of the space. The grooms lounge has a foosball table, slot machine, pool table, leather couch, and kitchenette. The guys loved hanging out and relaxing before the wedding. My understanding is that options and offerings are changing rapidly but when we booked our wedding this is what was included in our rental price: 5 hour event, access to the venue starting at 9am, 1 hour rehearsal before the event, tables, and customizable uplighting. Chaffari chairs located at the venue are actually owned by Waterford events so you have to rent them. They also recently got 2 bars that are available for rent. I believe they are now offering linen rentals but weren't available when we signed our contract. Because of the limited offerings, we had to rent linens, cups, plates, and silverware through a rental company. We rented a bar and chairs through the HPO. We were a bit disappointed in what wasn't included for the rental price as all of the extra costs on top of the price for the venue put us a bit over budget. The minimal offerings make the venue maximally customizable for your wedding but isn't necessarily best for a bride who is on a budget or doesn't have lots of time to research vendors and rentals. Another monetary item to consider is that the HPO requires you to have a day-of coordinator which is another expense but was helpful the day of. One other minor complaint was that the wifi was spotty. Our DJ used the wifi to stream music and the wifi kicked him off of all of his devices during our first dance. Overall, we loved the HPO for our wedding. If you are on a budget, make sure you look into everything that is or isn't included in the price and other requirements of the venue. I would highly recommend the HPO for weddings and other events needing a large classy space. Reviewed on 14-01-2018
Katherine Williams(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 16-09-2017 First of all, the Historic Post Office is absolutely beautiful. From the moment you pull up to the front stairs, to the beautiful hard wood floors and then the bridal suites...oh my gosh, the bridal suites. This venue could not have been anymore perfect for my husband and I. We were able to get ready, have our ceremony, reception and exit all in the same location. Kelsey and Madeline are so wonderful. We always felt very informed and in-the-loop. I would book with them again in a heartbeat! Thank you ladies so much! Reviewed on 06-10-2017
