History
This 20-room mansion was built in 1925 by the community’s founder, William J. Howey. Five years prior, Howey purchased 60,000 acres in central Florida and founded the town that bore his name. Designed by Katherine Cotheal Budd, the home has a Mediterranean Revival vibe to it. Throughout the years, this lavish home has hosted numerous parties with famous guests that include U.S. presidents and Hollywood superstars.
We just had our dream wedding at the Howey Mansion! From the very beginning it was a pleasant experience working with the staff of the mansion and Arthurs’s catering. Kathleen was my main contact, and she was always available to answer any questions and to help with planning. All the staff the day of the wedding, including Fran, were so friendly and very attentive. They were constantly at work to clean up after others and help keep the flow of the wedding. I can’t thank them enough for helping create such a beautiful night. Reviewed on 23-10-2023

You really can have it all at your wedding and it is with Howey Mansion and Arthur's Catering. It was a true fairytale wedding from the moment you park to the moment you leave. Our contact, Lori, with Howey was always available to answer any questions we had promptly and thoroughly. She took the time to get to know us in order to offer us personalized recommendations to make our day unique. Fran, the grounds manager was super helpful and made sure we were taken care of and stayed the entire wedding to be sure everything ran smoothly. The bride and groom suites were clean and air conditioned. Our guests told us the food was the best they had ever had at a wedding and were so surprised by how gorgeous the venue was! The bar staff was excellent, as were all of the servers and there was never a shortage of food. Everything ran smoothly even with a rain back up plan hours before. Rae R(bride)1 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 14-11-2024 I wanted to come here as I have saw a lot of great reviews but unfortunately it was a horrible experience. I scheduled a tour for a Saturday. After driving over two hours, when we arrived, Fran was extremely rude and inappropriate. We walked in and when she approached us she asked “can I help you” in a really nasty tone. I told her we had a tour scheduled and she said “not today you don’t”. We realized we ended up arriving on the wrong day. I explained to her that we drove over two hours and I was really excited to see the venue. She told us we could not see the place and that we had to leave. I was extremely upset and as I was walking out of the door I told her she did not have to be so rude. She walked towards me and said “what did you say” and I turned around and I told her she did not have to be so rude to me, we drove two hours to see this place and I would be happy to have my wedding somewhere else. I literally left in tears because this women was so terrible to me. After losing both of my parents, planning a wedding has not been easy and she ruined my first experience seeing a venue. I don’t usually write reviews but I want to warn others of this place. If you want compassionate people on your wedding day, stay away from the Howie Mansion. Reviewed on 02-04-2023

Our contact at the Howey was always available to answer any questions we had...and there were many. The grounds were beautiful. They had just put in new grass in the courtyard which was beautiful. Fran, the \"lady of the house\" was super helpful and made sure we were taken care of. The bride and groom suites were clean and air conditioned. They partner with Arthurs Catering for food and drinks. Our guests told us the food was the best they had ever had at a wedding. The food was phenomenal. The bar staff was phenomenal, as were all of the servers. The passed appetizers and cocktails were a hit as well. We were so happy with everything for our wedding. We had 134 people. Rebekah Essick(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 05-12-2022 If I had to go back and do my whole wedding over again, I would chose The Howey Mansion over and over. Everything about this venue is PERFECT. I had so many of our attendees tell me this was the best wedding they had ever been to, and the Mansion was a huge part of that. The Mansion is beautiful. It was the exact aesthetic I was going for. The windows on the side of the property made for the perfect ceremony location. The back terrace was beautiful for an evening dinner. The catering from Arthur's was stellar. And the Prohibition Room was such a fun surprise for our guests. We were able to throw a proper party with no issues. And I loved the ability to add some flair with our own item hanging above the fireplace (we chose to have a photo of our dog).I'm seeing some reviews say that Fran was a nightmare to work with but that was not our experience. You have to understand, this is a historic venue and she does what she needs to in order to ensure the property is protected. As someone who loves historical sites and antiques, I completely understand. Because of this, there are a few hoops you have to jump through with vendor paperwork which was a little annoying but nothing unmanageable. On our wedding night, Fran was an absolute joy. She even told our wedding party some ghost stories, which they loved. And she walked us back to the Gardener's Cottage (where my husband and I stayed that night) and told us more stories about the property. Seriously, she was great.Speaking of the Gardener's Cottage, I highly recommend staying there for couples on your wedding night. It is so cozy and quaint, you won't need to pay for a getaway car, plus our photographer was able to follow us there after our grand exit and get some adorable photos of my husband carrying me over the threshold. If you're considering Howey, I could not recommend enough. Our wedding was a dream. Everything was perfect. And we can't stop talking about the venue. Reviewed on 29-12-2022

Venue was beautiful the staff was very pleasant and attentive but Fran is a nightmare! If you’re looking for an event space or a wedding venue, look elsewhere! It’s no surprise almost every vendor says that Fran is terrible to work with…ask around, don’t take my word for it!In the middle of my wedding night Fran pulled me in her office and scolded me about the volume of the music. I was then approached by multiple employees of Fran saying that Fran had sent them to advise me that she was calling the police. Shortly after the a/c in the venue was turned off and it became so hot that our guests where drenched in sweat and extremely uncomfortable! At the end of the night I go upstairs to the the grooms room to find my shoes and wallet in the trash. I won’t be surprised if she’s making fake Google accounts to post good reviews about herself, as every other review speaks of how “Fran is very nice” when this is not the case at all. Food was great the staff was awesome but Fran is trash. Goodluck, if you cross paths with Fran. Reviewed on 05-12-2022
Nolanie Binet(other)1 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 01-12-2022 I had my wedding here and although the wedding venue is beautiful, the property manager FRAN made the experience very unpleasant. She treated the hair/makeup team like servants upon arrival as she yelled at them and told them to clear the bridal suite upon my arrival and they had to remain in the tiny bathroom doing all services there when we had a perfectly sized bridal suite where we all could’ve worked comfortably. Mind you there were 8 of us in a small bathroom trying to complete hair and makeup when there was a perfectly sized empty room. This made the experience very stressful. FRAN made our Dj’s lives a NIGHTMARE as she constantly yelled at them and my planner to turn the music down holding her decibel meter RIGHT NEXT TO THE SPEAKER when standard practice is to hold it at the property line to ensure noise is not an issue for nearby residents. FRAN also yelled and smacked an item out of the dj’s hand as she demanded for music to be turned down once again. She then called my husband IN THE MIDDLE OF OUR WEDDING to meet her in her office where she literally went off on him about how the music is too much and that windows are shaking and the music could damage the mansion’s architecture. There were no windows or walls shaking at all in the mansion. We then noticed that shortly after that brief meeting, The AC was then shut off making it a sauna and very uncomfortable for guests to enjoy dancing. Towards the end of our event, FRAN and her staff began to yell at bridal party participants as they were gathering their belongings up stairs. We also found many of our items in garbage cans!! Items such as cellphones, shoes, and wallets. Upon exiting the mansion, we then observed that cops arrived and even let us know that FRAN had called them multiple times. The cops advised us that the noise ordinance began at 10:00pm which is when our event ended. The cop assured us that we did nothing wrong and that they did not receive any complaints from nearby residents prior, which is what FRAN made us believe. Again, the venue is beautiful but it is not worth the money or headache if FRAN is involved. Reviewed on 05-12-2022
Jessiann Martinez(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 13-02-2022 This is the perfect venue to have a wedding that feels surreal. It is one of the most romantic venues Florida has to offer (in my opinion) and you will definitely not regret it once you see your pictures. The historical mansion is not only beautiful on its own but has many different options to choose from for both the ceremony area as well as reception indoor or outdoor. Lori was amazing throughout the whole process, always keeping open communication with us whenever we had questions or concerns. And helping us with special requests. Fran was also amazing during the day off, helping make sure everything ran smoothly as well as saving some appetizers for us to try after our pictures. I highly recommend this beautiful venue. Taylor Spencer(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 06-05-2021 When my husband and I were looking at wedding venues for our ceremony and reception, none of them were the best fit for our vision and budget. We were looking for something historic, elegant, and regal; yet all we seemed to come across were rustic barns, bland ballrooms, or smaller homes. Not only did they not fit our whimsical romantic theme, but they were also outside of our budget and would require additional table/chair/cutlery rentals. It seemed hopeless until we came across a listing for the Howey Mansion. We were taken aback by how gorgeous the estate was and its history. The next weekend we completed a tour and knew we had found our dream wedding venue. For our wedding day, we purchased the Mrs. Mary Howey Package which included 2 hours of time in the bride/groom suites prior to the ceremony, 6 hours of actual event time, mahogany chiavari chairs, round banquet tables, cocktail tables and smaller tables if needed for unity candle lighting/sand ceremony, floor length linens, water station, onsite parking attendant, cake cutting, and so much more. We had access to the entire mansion and were able to rent the cottage on-site for the night before and night of the wedding as our honeymoon suite. Even our wedding planner was shocked at how much was included for such a low fee. The Howey Mansion works exclusively with Arthur’s Catering to cater their events and I can honestly say that was a match made in heaven. The food was superb and all of the necessary dinner items were included with our Arthur’s package as well such as plates, glassware, cutlery, etc. Our contact from the Mansion, Lori, was the same as our contact from Arthur’s so she was aware of all of the necessary details for our special day venue and catering-wise. The day of our wedding came and everything went according to schedule. The venue was able to coordinate well with my wedding planner and other vendors during the set-up portion of the day. While we were supposed to have an outdoor wedding, we were blessed with rain, so the venue was very accommodating on moving the ceremony inside. When my guests arrived, they were stunned at the beauty and regal nature of the Mansion. Very little decor, other than florals and candles, were necessary since the Mansion itself is so rich in design. Having our wedding at the Howey Mansion brought our fairytale wedding to life and we couldn’t be more thankful to the staff and owners! Reviewed on 15-07-2021

They were incredibly accommodating of our cultural needs and were flexible with us.The shining moment for us is when our reception venue abruptly shut down two weeks before our wedding (Noah's Event Venue, a mess). Tasha saw my Facebook post and immediately started trying to help me before I even contacted her. She offered me use of the mansion for both days, for an extremely reduced fee, let me keep every single vendor I had already booked, and worked with me to reorganize my wedding reception. She absolutely didn't have to do that and the fact that she did just proves the level of commitment they have to their clients. On the day of the wedding, several things went wrong with vendors and I wasn't even aware because they worked so hard with my coordinator to ensure that my husband and I had the perfect wedding. The mansion is absolutely stunning, and I couldn't imagine getting married anywhere else. Nathalie Colon De Jesus(bride)3 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 24-05-2019 We fell in love with the mansion the second we stepped into it while looking for a venue for our wedding. We were deciding between Howey Mansion and Casa Feliz. We're glad we chose Howey as it was absolutley stunning! Breathtaking pictures were the result. All of our family and friends were in awe of how gorgeous it was. We didn't even use a lot of decorating, the mansion really spoke for itself. The only thing I advise is if you plan on having a wedding card box 1) make sure you have a lock for itand 2)make sure someone is watching over it. Unfortunately, we had someone steal cards out of ours when it was alone for maybe 20 minutes but even that was enough time. Our wedding was the Saturday of Memorial weekend and they didn't open until Tuesday. We went to the mansion to see if something could be done but apparently their security cameras only hold 48 hour footage and it was deleted. Which seemed very odd and shady considering that most business if not all with security cameras hold footage for at least 30 days. Even our cameras bought from Bjs hold footage for 30 days. It's upsetting that this happened at such a place and we could do nothing about it. Reviewed on 07-06-2019
