The Living Room Reviews
Heather Church(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 13-11-2021 This venue could not have been more perfect for our wedding. We had 140 guests and thought it was spacious. The exposed brick and wood beams were what we were originally drawn to when we saw this venue along with location to downtown hotels. The venue coordinator was also super helpful and helped to coordinate all of our vendors seamlessly. Our day was more than perfect and could not have been without this amazing venue! Annie Catania(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 18-09-2020 The Living Room was the perfect venue for our wedding reception! We wanted a venue that would allow us to bring our DIY/industrial/rustic vision to life, and The Living Room did just that! With so much open space we were able to completely customize the space using rentals that made the building feel like ours. The exposed brick and hanging light fixtures are absolutely beautiful and really bring the scene together. The venue also allows you to bring in your own catering and alcohol which will save you THOUSANDS, I repeat, THOUSANDS of dollars. I would recommend The Living Room to any and all couples looking for a venue that allows them to put their own spin on their special day! Reviewed on 27-09-2020

Kate Curatola(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 13-04-2019 The Living Room offered my husband and I a venue unlike any other in Omaha. With brick wall, peaked ceilings with wooden beams, and industrial touches, the venue offered ample atmosphere itself while still providing the opportunity to get creative and personal with decorations. With a staffing change within the venue during our planning process, communication was a bit delayed at times, but overall everyone we worked with was very friendly and accommodating. I changed my layout a few times leading up to the event and staff was understanding and helpful with the adjustments. It was a blessing to be able to come in the Friday before our wedding to begin hanging our greenery installation from the ceiling and set out our centerpieces to eliminate stresses on the actual day. The open vendor policy of The Living Room was truly appreciated as well! I would definitely recommend The Living Room to other couples and businesses for their events! Reviewed on 18-04-2019
Mitchell Nohner(groom)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 06-04-2019 The Living Room provided the perfect location for our wedding. The space itself has numerous great architectural features - from the spectacular wooden archway to the exposed beams and skylights - that make it truly unique. Additionally, it is truly a blank slate that enables customizing the decorations within to fit your own personal style - which was one of the primary reasons we landed on this as our venue. Additionally, it has multiple spaces that can be rented, enabling you to make the rooms work for your own particular needs. We were also attracted to this venue as they had no limits on what caterers, DJs, etc we could use. We enjoyed working with the venue manager Natalie, who promptly responded to any of our inquiries and helped tremendously in coordinating with the caterers and other vendors as far as the timing of set-up, break-down, allowing for remote access etc. Her and her staff helped to ensure the whole event went off without a hitch (including removing 200 chairs from the ceremony room to transition it into a dancefloor). Affordable, unique, and well-managed - we loved every aspect of the Living Room and cannot imagine having had our wedding at any other locale. Reviewed on 15-04-2019

They let you make your own choices regarding food or drink and whatnot. The staff was extremely helpful, professional, friendly and easy to work with. And Jacobi makes it look so effortless. During some planning I relied on her professional opinion, she found ways to make the morning and day of so much easier and stress-free, during the evening she helped us maintain comfortable temperatures and she even helped with set up and tear down! Elizabeth Aranha(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 01-09-2018 My husband, our families, and I have nothing but excellent reviews of The Living Room and our event coordinator, Jacobi. We live in Chicago had a large event as a welcome reception the night before our wedding at The Living Room at the end of August 2018. Due to the size of the event and us being out of town, we began planning months in advance. Jacobi made this process as seamless as possible, was extremely attentive, and responded promptly to all of our phone calls and emails with our questions and specific requests (and there were many :) ) She made herself available any time we were in town to meet and discuss details. The space we were given was lovely, intimate, and large enough to fit 300-350 people comfortably for a ceremony, eating/drinking, and socializing. Jacobi was present on the day of the event to assist with set-up and last minute requests. Just as an FYI, we catered food, brought in bar service, and provided plates/utensils, decorations, and rental of linens. We also completed set-up, and clean-up ourselves but we were given an entire day/night to do so. We ended up having a wonderful event and I would highly recommend The Living Room to anyone. Abby Breuer(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 08-09-2018 We are beyond impressed with our whole experience of having our reception at The Living Room. The space is so unique and has a ton of character on its own that we only really had to worry about table decorations. The brick walls, exposed ceiling, sky lights, bistro lights, concrete floors, the stained glass door...everything was absolutely beautiful! We also really liked that all of the chairs and tables were provided, that there were no catering restrictions and were able to bring in our own alcohol for the bar. Jacobi was also spectacular to work with. She let us come see the space multiple times during the planning process and always responded to emails promptly when we had any questions which we truly appreciate. I told her what I was thinking as far as which tables I wanted, approximately where I wanted things and how many people there would be, and she came up with the layout super quick! She was also very patient when we wanted to change little things here and there. Overall, this place was amazing and exceeded all of my expectations! Madison Halverson(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 17-08-2018 The venue had ample space that allowed us to decorate however we wanted, and the manager was very friendly and helpful. The exposed brick and dark green floor looked great and didn't clash with our decoration, even though we had bright colors. Everything ran smoothly--the ceremony and the reception! However, the air vents above us during the candle ceremony kept blowing out the candles, so I would just request to turn them off during the ceremony. We booked on a Friday and had just a few hours the prior day to rehearse and set up, but it worked out. There was also a private space for the wedding party to hang out before the ceremony. Overall, a great experience. Thanks! Reviewed on 07-09-2018

We chose The Living Room for our wedding because we loved the industrial feel of it. The brick walls and exposed ducts were gorgeous on their own, and we were able to soften the vibe a little bit with our decor and uplighting. The location was perfect (close to hotels, airport, etc.) and had plenty of free parking which made it easy for our guests. Jacobi was AMAZING to work with and was extremely patient with us during the entire planning process. I also love how the space is divided up between the ceremony and reception space. Stephanie Zuniga(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 22-07-2017 Our venue was breathtaking and exactly what we were looking for. When my husband and I had our first appointment, we talked to Marisa Tomlinson. She helped us seal the deal with her positive and charismatic attitude. We felt confident in our choice. Six months later, we received an email from Jacobi, the new venue manager. I was a little alarmed, but hoped that everything would work out. I visited the venue twice before the ceremony and reception to check measurements and to show the venue off to friends and family. Jacobi was friendly enough, but was distant and difficult to communicate with. She did not attempt to make small talk or make me feel at ease with a new venue manager. At one point, my matron of honor asked her if she would have her wedding at the Living Room and she replied right away with a definite \"No.\" I was once again alarmed, but hoped for the best. The day before the wedding we were allowed to decorate, which was super helpful and less stressful, however, as we were decorating Jacobi did not acknowledge us while she was waiting for another couple to tour the venue. The same thing happened the next day on our wedding day. I loved our wedding and our venue, but wish our building manager would have been more helpful and acted like she enjoyed her job. Mariah Collins(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 27-05-2017 The Living Room was the only venue I looked at because I absolutely fell in love with it! I loved the industrial vibe, the metal beams, and wood. Everyone complimented us on how gorgeous our ceremony and reception were. I mainly picked this venue because you can choose your own vendors and my parent's own a catering/ food truck business so this was a perfect fit for us. I loved the parking and the location to downtown was nice for our guests. Working with the Living Room for a year plus I did end up working with three different managers, which was frustrating at times. Jacobi was the latest manager and she was always available and willing to answer any of my questions and she was very, very prompt in answering everything! There were a few small hiccups the day of the wedding like the gate didn't open early enough for us to get in the venue to decorate, leftover rentals from the wedding the Friday before and candles I had rented from the venue not being set out, but overall it was a GREAT experience and I would recommend The Living Room to any DIY, modern bride!! Downtown can get busy Friday and Saturday but you have private parking in a gated area. There's also plenty of oportunity for beautiful pictures around downtown and in the beautiful spaces with antique furnature at the Living Room itself. The venue planner was on top of everything and knew how to help keep us comfortable and help our night go smooth. She even created a space just for me and my girls to get ready in. Lindsey Folkerts(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 04-03-2017 The Living Room, in downtown Omaha, did such a flawless job of hosting both our wedding ceremony and reception on March 4th, 2017. Jacobi was a pleasure to work with throughout the details and configuring process and was never against sticking around late to make sure I could check everything off my list. We were able to setup our reception the day before, as I did not hire a wedding planner, and that was one of the biggest breaths of relief for me, because I wanted to be such a big part of that process and the venues overall look. As little requests would come to mind last minute, there was never hesitation on Jacobi's part and I can't say enough good words about her for all of that. Hiring in our own dinner food, bar, live band and desserts was the absolute most attractive draw about The Living Room and I'm so glad we chose that route. Jamie Oeltjen(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 11-02-2017 We loved The Living Room from the moment we saw it and couldn't be more pleased with how our wedding ceremony and reception played out. The Higgins room went from our ceremony, to the dinner serving area, to the dance floor with the extra space being a game room. The transitions went smoothly and quickly during cocktail hour and again after dinner was served that none of our guests knew what was going on! Jacobi was awesome at keeping all vendors on the same page as to what was happening and when. She was phenomenal to work with from the day we met. No matter how many emails I sent (many of which I'm sure I asked the same questions over and over) she always replied quickly and answered all questions thoroughly. At first, I was worried about the rooms being divided but it worked out perfectly. I expressed my concern and Jacobi worked out the perfect lay out for every guest to be able to watch the first dance and things. I also felt that many older family members hung out longer as they could escape the loud music easily. The Living Room was an excellent choice for us and we loved the vibe it set for our night! We had around 200 guests for our wedding, and although I was initially concerned about space, it wasn't an issue at all. Jacobi (the venue manager) was wonderful throughout the process. A different manager was in place when we initially signed with the LR, and Jacobi worked with us to ensure that there were no difficulties in the transition to working with her as a manager. We had both our ceremony and reception at the Mastercraft (ceremony/dance in Higgins and dinner in LR), and it was fantastic to have both spaces adjacent to one another (very convenient for our guests too!) We placed our head table in the center of the LR for dinner, and it worked out beautifully. Just recently, venue management had changed. Marisa's assistant, Jordan, spoke with my mom on the phone insisting that she come in for a tour. My mom went in for the tour and we quickly found out that we were making a great decision with this venue. Marisa and Jordan even allowed us to peek at another weddings decor before the ceremony. We decided to add a LOT of strung lights to compliment the existing facade, which we highly recommend (after dark it would be off-puttingly dark, in our opinion, without them). \rThank you Melanie for being a trusted advisor and helping us actualize our dream day!! Not happy with this place. We were told we were able to be inside the venue until 1 a.m., but they locked us out at midnight. We had a caravan of family members that were locked out of the driveway by the iron gate at midnight. We were unable to go back inside to do a final run through to make sure nothing was left behind. My husband had to hop the 8' gate in his tux to gain entry to find the security guard, and open the gate for the taxis and family members returning to help transport reception supplies.\rBefore all of that, though, their P.A. system was a joke and broken. First half of reception we were unable to play music or make toasts. Luckily our D.J. was awesome and competent, and got it running. \rThe ice machine broke down right off the bat, also. Had to leave the reception to pick up over 100 lbs of bagged ice. \rThe dance floor wasn't mopped from the previous nights event. There was sticky beverage spots all over the dance floor. \rThe security guard hassled guests, AND THE GROOM! The groom was advised to leave the property because he was intoxicated. Not because he caused damage, or started a commotion, but simply because he had too much to drink. The groom was being well watched and cared for by the best man. It was completely uncalled for that the security guard involved himself. \rWhile the decor and ambiance of this venue appears nice, be prepared for no customer service once your event day arrives. We had many shrugged shoulders and \"I understand\"'s given to us; but never any actual remorse was given, solutions or offers of assistance was given to right their wrongs.\rI suggest you keep on looking for a venue. Don't book this one.\r Reviewed on 07-06-2015
Lydia Shald(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 29-11-2014 This venue is absolutely beautiful! If you are looking for somewhere that has its own aesthetic appeal this is it!! Exposed brick walls, iron beams, a claw bathtub for drinks; This place is awesome! They allow you to work with any caterer, which is definitely a nice perk!\rI held my ceremony and reception both at the venue which was a huge help with all the out of town guests. Plenty of hotels for them to stay at that were very close (2 or 3 blocks away)\rMelanie the venue coordinator was very quick to respond with any questions I had, and any strange requests. We ended up having 240 guests, and the venue only seats 225 ( with round tables) so Melanie played with the seating arrangement until our number of guests were able to be accommodated.\rThe only reason this isn't a straight across 5 star rating is:\r1)because the ceremony room doesn't have any A/V or speakers of any kind. Also, due to this, our DJ had to drag a speaker into the adjoining room ( for dinnertime) to play music and announce, which made for a muffled and hard to understand sound.\r2)The ceremony chairs, although they are nice looking, are not very sturdy. We ended up being charged for breaking one due to this.\rOverall, I have gotten tons of comments about how beautiful the venue is, and my day was absolutely perfect!\r Reviewed on 17-12-2014

The Living Room is such a cute little venue in the heart of Omaha. I recently attended an event at The Living Room and was pleasantly surprised. The venue has a rustic feel to it with the exposed brick walls and piping, but is still classy enough to make a statement for whatever event is being hosted there. Melanie is so helpful and is willing to do whatever she can do to make sure the event runs smoothly and everyone has a great time. Thanks for a great time! Reviewed on 09-12-2014

Wendi Grettenberg(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 02-08-2014 I recently got married at the Living Room and had both the ceremony and reception at the venue. The staff was very friendly and easy to work with. The facilities were nice and everything looked so beautiful on our special day. I loved the charm of the exposed brick and also the claw foot bathtub which held our beverages. The location was also really nice being so close to downtown with hotels in walking distance. A very great perk of using the Living Room is having the freedom to choose the catering/bar service you want instead of having to use the one that the venue has a contract with. That, plus the atmosphere, were really what helped us to decide to use the Living Room. I wish we could go back and do it all again:) Reviewed on 28-08-2014

We recently hosted an event at The Living Room and I must say that it was a perfect venue! The staff was excellent (thank you, Melanie!) in that they were helpful with pre-planning and day-of event coordination. They made everything run smoothly and went out of their way to ensure we had the best experience. \r\rThe space is very cool - it's a lovely brick modern loft style building with nice light and accommodations. It's also very close to the old market area, which is convenient. The Living Room also accommodates large parties, but still has a cozy feel. There is plenty of parking and lots of room to make the space feel your own. \r\rI highly recommend! 5 STARS!!! Reviewed on 27-06-2014

As a DIY bride, I had many details to think through in planning my own wedding. I was lucky enough to learn about The Living Room at the Mastercraft by word of mouth. After viewing the website and going down for a tour, I was sold! Not only did I fall in love with its charm and decide to hold my reception there, I knew I also had get married there.\rThe Mastercraft building is nestled into a historic part of town and has character which was an important detail to me. The Living Room space is gorgeous. It has a modern meets historic feel with its exposed brick and I-beams set against a wall of windows. The space offers the capability to plug in an i-Pod for surround sound music which was exactly what we wanted. There are also projector screens if you have a video or slide show which I thought was great.\rThe Living Room’s even planner, Melanie Phelan, was also wonderful. You can tell she is passionate about event planning because she is so darn good at it! She made every step leading up to and including the wedding day a breeze. She has such a calm demeanor and offered a solution for every concern of mine. For example, she suggested a place to buy flowers for the centerpieces I put together myself. Her recommendation was spot on because the flowers were lovely and I saved quite a bit of money. I was both impressed by and grateful for the way Melanie ensured everything ran smoothly throughout the entire day.\rMy wedding day was the best day of my life. The space was stunning, the details came together beautifully, and I married my best friend. I’m taking the time to share this review because I truly hope other brides take the time to view the space for themselves. I can’t tell you enough how incredibly happy I am that we chose to celebrate our big day at the Living Room!\r Reviewed on 20-05-2014
Brandy Dorau(bride)2 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 03-05-2014 We got married May 3rd, 2014 at the Living Room. We rented both spaces for our ceremony and reception. This venue is absolutely beautiful! We signed our contract 10 months before our wedding and couldn't wait to show it off to our guests. Unfortunately, we rented it on the worst possible weekend.\r\rThe parking lot had a pipe break! When we went to finalize a week before our wedding, the mess was covered with rocks that we could work around. There was plenty of parking. 2 days before our wedding, we drove by to see heavy machinery and mounds of mud everywhere. It had rained the entire week and they decided that it would be a great idea to tear it up, even when our wedding was that weekend. We did get an email saying there wouldn't be parking available, but the situation was downplayed. I was so upset that I met with Melanie that day. She reassured me that all work would resume after the rain stopped and they would try to get things done. I was also promised compensation due to the fact that our handicapped guests wouldn't be able to get in the front doors, all loading would have to be done from the back of the building, and most of the parking was gone. The gravel in the back was a huge issue for my elderly guests and it was very confusing on where they should enter the building. They literally entered the building through a loading dock area and had to walk through the building. They were able to finish a small portion of the concrete on the morning of our event, but was still left with a huge eye sore. Not only that, but they were powerwashing the mud off the sidewalk and the water flooded into the venue, which was more added stress.\r\rMy event went smoothly in between the guests arriving (when they found where to go) and the end of the night. We rented everything for our wedding, which made it very difficult to haul it all inside. My dad drives a van and asked the construction guys at the end of the night if he could back in to get all the rental items in the van. They gave him permission to. All of the guests got kicked out of the venue promptly at 1 AM and couldn't get out because the gate was closed. After trying to contact the venue manager twice through calls and text, no answer was received but my guests figured out how to get out. They couldn't trip the gate because it was blocked by mounds of dirt.\r\rNot only was my whole security deposit not given back to me, but no compensation was given. They used the white chairs (which they charge $2.50 each to rent) because they wanted to test set up and tear down times. She gave us these at no cost for her benefit. These are required to rent now, but weren't when we signed our contract. We got no compensation, although we were told we would. When talking about the security deposit and compensation, they said the white chairs ($250 value) would be compensation enough, which was insulting considering she offered them to use for free! We got blamed for ruining their concrete warranty when my dad had asked before driving on it (he even offered to testify on their behalf so they could get their warranty back), and they threatened to call the insurance company.\r\rIf this would've been handled a different way, I would recommend it to others. With our situation, I know that the pipe breaking and flooding wasn't their fault, but they didn't handle it well, which is why I wouldn't recommend this venue. I felt as if money was more important than our happiness. Reviewed on 19-05-2014
Amanda Mills(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 12-04-2014 When we initially signed the contract with The Living Room, we chose it for the atmosphere and the price. The venue coordinator we signed with was good, but I was very relieved when I got back in contact with them for our final details in the last couple months and found out that Melanie had taken over. She told me she was hired specifically to coordinate things there--a load off my mind from the previous, tenuous arrangement--and would be there on the wedding day to let vendors in and make sure things went as planned. I appreciated her input on the layout and her ideas on decorating. \rThe open ceiling design is very easy to decorate creatively and create a unique atmosphere, and the additional room (which we didn't use, though she allowed us in to take pictures) is a great space and would have made a nice dancing floor. I recommend getting their bar. Our caterers did not think it was worth it, but Melanie positioned it by the dance floor so when they turned it on (it glows and changes colors) it added to the DJ's lighting.\rThe kitchen is small so it is better suited for a buffet meal, but that was no problem for us.\rPerhaps my favorite part of the venue was that the room/windows are positioned just right so that it lets in the evening sunlight. That part worked out beautifully, especially since they still have the greenery out of the windows in their main reception room.\rAltogether, I loved the experience and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for that certain feel. It is very easy to decorate and make it your own. Reviewed on 24-04-2014
Laura Ranslem(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 07-01-2014 We were looking for a unique space that had exposed ceilings and brick walls for character and we found it - this place is awesome! I didn't have to stress too much about decorations because the space had enough character of its own. I also was so pleased that the venue was very high tech with 2 projector screens, sound system, key fob access and changing lights on the archway and bar. I received so many compliments from guests because the space was so unique and everyone loved the vintage bath tub that we used for a beer cooler! \r\rWe rented both spaces - the living room as well as the adjacent room. The living room worked well as a sit down area with soft music so guests could sit and chat without loud dance music. We used the adjacent side with it's concrete floors for the dance floor and bar area and it was perfect - lots of space!\r\rMy caterer said the kitchen space was perfect for her needs as well.\r\rAs far as customer service from the venue - that was exceptional as well from start to finish. They were prompt to answer any questions I had and Melanie was a huge help on the day of the reception!\r\rI would highly recommend this venue for any event! Reviewed on 03-02-2014
